8 Honeymoon Destinations
Worth Packing Your Sass
(and Swimwear) For
You’ve said your vows, danced like no one was watching, and
eaten enough cake to last a lifetime. Now it’s time for the best
part – the honeymoon! Whether you want beaches, sunsets, or a
bit of adventure, here are 8 sweet places perfect for newlyweds.
Maldives – Hammocks & Heaven
If your dream honeymoon includes sipping drinks in an overwater
villa while someone brings you snacks by boat, the Maldives
is calling. Every island looks like a postcard, and the sea is the
brightest blue you’ve ever seen. Expect candlelit dinners on the
beach, private villas, and zero stress.

JULY/AUGUST 2025 TRAVEL
Clockwise from left: Krabi,
Thailand; Amalfi Coast,
Italy; Greece
Amalfi Coast, Italy – Romance on the Road
Italy’s Amalfi Coast is full of charm, sunshine, and pasta. Cute
towns cling to cliffs, the sea sparkles, and everything smells like
lemons. Rent a vintage car, cruise along the coast, and stop for
photos and gelato. It’s calm, beautiful, and oh-so-romantic.
Krabi, Thailand – Chill by the Sea
Krabi is quiet, peaceful, and perfect for couples who want to relax.
It’s got hidden beaches, crystal-clear water, and dramatic cliffs.
Take a boat ride, explore the mangroves, or just nap by the pool.
It’s a little slice of Thai paradise, without the crowds.
Greece – White Walls & Blue Skies
Greece is stunning – think white houses, deep blue seas, and
sunsets that make your heart skip a beat. Santorini is a top choice
for honeymooners, with its cliffside villages and amazing views.
Wander around hand in hand, eat fresh seafood, and watch the sky
turn pink at sunset.
TROPICANA LIFESTYLE
13
Bali, Indonesia – Tropical Dreams
Bali is full of lush jungles, beautiful beaches, and dreamy hotels.
Whether you stay in a fancy villa or a cute beach hut, you’ll feel
like you’re in a romantic movie. Swim in jungle pools, try tasty
food, and soak up the peaceful vibes.
Comporta, Portugal – Quiet & Cool
Comporta is a hidden gem just outside Lisbon. It’s relaxed, stylish,
and full of natural beauty – think rice fields, forests, and soft sandy
beaches. Enjoy fresh seafood by the sea, sip sangria as the sun
sets, and enjoy the simple life (in a super fancy way).
Bora Bora – Paradise Found
Bora Bora is what honeymoon dreams are made of. Overwater
bungalows, clear blue lagoons, and soft white sand – it’s all here.
Go snorkelling, have a picnic on a tiny island, or just float around
in the sea. It’s far away, but totally worth it.

JULY/AUGUST 2025 TRAVEL
Tokyo, Japan – City of Cool
For something a bit different, Tokyo is full of fun. Eat amazing
sushi, see sumo matches, visit temples, and shop for quirky
souvenirs. One minute you’re in a peaceful garden, the next you’re
in a café with robots or goats. It’s wild, weird, and wonderful.
So, where to first?
No matter which destination you choose, your honeymoon should be
all about relaxing, laughing, and making sweet memories together.
Pack your bags (and maybe some snacks) – adventure awaits!

The ultimate golfer’s bucket list for
2025, from windswept headlands
to exclusive island gems
Cypress Point Club, California, USA
Photo from www.golfholidays.com
For golf lovers, there's always one more course to tick off
the list. But if you're looking to play the crème de la crème,
here’s your 2025 definitive list of the Top 10 Golf Courses
across the globe. From the rolling dunes of Nebraska to
the dramatic coastlines of Northern Ireland, this list blends
heritage, exclusivity, and good old golfing challenge. So,
grab your clubs—dreams start here.
CYPRESS POINT CLUB – CALIFORNIA, USA
If golf courses were mythical creatures, Cypress Point would
be the Pegasus—beautiful, rare, and nearly impossible to catch.
Tucked along the Monterey Peninsula, it’s exclusive enough to
make Augusta seem easy to get into. Legend has it that even JFK
was once denied entry to the clubhouse. With just 250 members,
your best bet is to be very well-connected… or very lucky.

PINE VALLEY GOLF CLUB – NEW JERSEY, USA
Built on the vision (and untimely demise) of hotelier George Crump,
Pine Valley is the gold standard of penal design—golf’s version of
tough love. Fairways are framed by thick woods and cavernous
bunkers; if you stray, you pay. A must-play for masochists and
course architecture purists alike.
ROYAL COUNTY DOWN (CHAMPIONSHIP) – DOWN, NORTHERN IRELAND
One of the most fiercely debated “best courses” in the UK, Royal
County Down offers blind tee shots, whispering dunes, and more
drama than a Netflix period series. Framed by the Mourne Mountains
and edged by the Irish Sea, this is bucket-list golf at its most majestic.
ROYAL MELBOURNE GOLF CLUB (WEST) – VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA
Alister MacKenzie's 1926 masterpiece is a symphony of strategic
design and sandbelt style. The West Course at Royal Melbourne
remains Australia’s jewel, playing host to top championships with a
layout that punishes recklessness and rewards finesse. Golf history
meets timeless challenge.
ROYAL PORTRUSH GOLF CLUB (DUNLUCE) – ANTRIM, NORTHERN IRELAND
Starting as a humble 9-hole layout in 1888, Royal Portrush has grown
into one of the world’s most iconic links. With sweeping views of the

rugged coast and a reputation burnished by The Open, it’s a classic
case of humble beginnings leading to global fame.
MUIRFIELD – LOTHIANS, SCOTLAND
Home to The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (est.
1744), Muirfield is not just a golf course—it’s a museum you can
play on. Its roots run deep into the soil of golf’s history, with the
original 13 rules of golf drafted here. The challenge? Impeccably
fair. The legacy? Immeasurable.
HIRONO GOLF CLUB – KANSAI, JAPAN
Designed by the Englishman Charles Alison, Hirono is Japan’s
most revered course—and possibly its most secretive. Tucked away
near Kobe, its beauty lies in its rugged elegance and impeccable
design. Access is extremely limited, so if you get the invite, don’t
think—go.

FISHERS ISLAND CLUB – NEW YORK, USA
Perched on a narrow sliver between Long Island Sound
and tranquil lakes, Fishers Island Club feels like stepping
into a postcard. With natural water views on nearly every
hole, it’s coastal golf at its dreamiest. Remote, private, and
breathtaking—just don’t miss the last ferry.

TRUMP TURNBERRY – AILSA COURSE, AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND
There’s golf, and then there’s Turnberry. With its dramatic
seaside setting, the Ailsa Course delivers epic scenery
and equally epic golf. From views of the Isle of Arran to
the infamous “Duel in the Sun,” it’s a course steeped in
legend—and breeze.
SAND HILLS GOLF CLUB – NEBRASKA, USA
Who knew Nebraska could rival the Scottish Highlands?
Sand Hills is a sprawling, minimalist marvel with fairways
that slither through mammoth dunes. It’s big, bold, and
brilliant—and deceptively punishing. Those bunkers? More
like craters. Pack extra balls and a sense of humour.

JULY/AUGUST 2025 TASTE
OF LEGACY
AND LOVE
Dining at Maria's Signature is
a family experience that will
leaving you wanting more
Tucked within the grandeur of Suria KLCC—one of Kuala Lumpur’s
most iconic landmarks—Maria’s Signature stands as a beacon of
warmth, comfort, and culinary excellence. At first glance, it may
appear to be another upscale steakhouse in the heart of the city.
But behind its inviting ambience and meticulously plated dishes
lies a rich story of love, legacy, and friendship that stretches back
decades—and you can taste it in every bite.
FROM A HUMBLE IPOH KITCHEN TO A KLCC LANDMARK
Maria’s began not in a bustling commercial kitchen, but in the
humble home of Angeline’s parents in Ipoh, where the comforting
aroma of pies and cakes filled the air and friends queued up for
their legendary pastries. What started as a home-based kitchen
with heartfelt cooking evolved into one of the Klang Valley’s most
beloved steak destinations.
The name Maria’s SteakCafe itself is a nod to their journey. Once
simply Maria’s Café, it evolved in tandem with their growing
reputation for premium steaks, and yet, the word “Café” remains—
preserving its original spirit of warmth and family-style hospitality.
Even as they serve up Kobe beef and dry-aged perfection, Maria’s
never loses its soul.
Childhood friend, Ai Lee, later joined forces with Angeline and
brought a storyteller’s flair from the broadcasting world and helped
transform Maria’s into what it is today: a restaurant rooted in care,
consistency, and connection.
THE MEAL THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES
The meal began with a duo of appetisers that set the tone perfectly.
The New Zealand Spicy Mussels, large and impossibly fresh, were
smothered in a spicy sauce that hit all the right notes. Paired with
crusty garlic bread, it was both rustic and indulgent. The Caesar Salad,
simple and clean, was a testament to fresh ingredients done right—
crisp lettuce, savoury dressing, and just the right amount of cheese.

Soups followed, and both were comforting in their own unique ways.
The Pumpkin Soup, smooth and sweet with a depth of flavour that
only fresh ingredients can provide, was a warm hug in a bowl. But
the show-stealer was the Oxtail Soup—a rich, hearty stew where the
meat literally fell off the bone. It was soul food at its finest.
And then came the stars of the show: the steak. The Australian
Wagyu MB7 Ribeye, prepared using a treasured family recipe, was
simply a masterpiece. A five-herb dry rub enhanced the steak’s
natural flavours, while the high-heat sear locked in the juices,
creating that elusive crust-meets-melt-in-your-mouth experience
that true steak lovers dream of.
Equally impressive were the N.Z. Lamb Cutlets, which were tender,
juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Each bite was a delicate balance
of savoury richness and natural sweetness. For seafood lovers, the
Atlantic White Cod offered a light, flaky counterpoint, its crisped
skin and aromatic sauce making it a refreshing highlight.
Of course, no visit would be complete without trying the Beef
Wellington with Foie Gras—a rare dish in KL, and done here with
a twist. Instead of tenderloin, Maria’s uses a deboned short rib
for a deeper, more savoury bite. The truffle-mushroom topping
and optional foie gras added layers of luxury, making this dish an
unforgettable experience.
The Spaghetti Aglio Olio, though simpler in nature, held its own with
bold garlic, olive oil, chili flakes, and perfectly cooked seafood—it
was deceptively complex and incredibly satisfying.
Desserts were the final hug at the end of this beautiful meal. The
Prune Cake, sweet, dense and nostalgic, was dotted with rich
prunes and had a surprising touch of tartness that kept it balanced.
And the Tiramisu—light, fluffy and kissed with a spirited splash of
alcohol—was topped with chocolate shavings that gave it just the
right amount of crunch and indulgence.

As you dine, it becomes clear: this isn’t just a business; it’s a love

With upcoming promotions like the Steak Frites (launched 27th June

celebrate this heartwarming brand.
So if you find yourself beneath the glittering Petronas Towers, looking

How Henry Golding Went from Cutting
Hair to Conquering Hollywood
Henry Golding may look like he was born for the red carpet, but his
journey to fame started far from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood
— in fact, he once worked as a hairdresser on Sloane Street in London.
Yes, before he became a movie star, Henry was trimming fringes and
blow-drying bobs!
Born on 5 February 1987 in Betong, a small town in Sarawak, Malaysia,
Henry has a mixed background — his mum is Dayak Iban from Sarawak,
and his dad is English. He spent his early childhood in Terengganu,
Malaysia, before moving to Surrey, England, at the age of eight. He
went to The Warwick School in Redhill and has British citizenship.
At 21, Henry moved back to Malaysia to chase his dream of being on TV.
He started off as a presenter on shows for ESPN, BBC, and Discovery
Channel Asia, covering everything from football to travel. One of his
biggest adventures was filming Surviving Borneo, where he lived in the
wild and took part in the bejalai — a traditional Iban journey into manhood.
He even carried his own camera gear and earned a hand-tapped tattoo on
his thigh of a fig tree, a symbol of strength and adaptability.

Henry lives in
Venice Beach,
California,
with his wife
Liv Lo, a
Taiwanese TV
presenter and
yoga instructor,
and their two
daughters born
in 2021 and
2023
But the real turning point came in 2017, when an accountant (yes,
really) flagged him to director Jon M. Chu during a worldwide search
for the lead in Crazy Rich Asians. Golding’s charm, jawline, and
uncanny ability to wear a tuxedo like he was born in one landed him
the part of Nick Young. The film became a cultural phenomenon, and
overnight, Henry went from “that good-looking guy on BBC Travel”
to “Hollywood’s next big thing.”
What followed was a genre-hopping film spree. In 2018, he played
Blake Lively’s suspiciously suave husband in A Simple Favor. Then
came Last Christmas in 2019, where he teamed up with Emilia Clarke
to ask the pressing question: “Can romance bloom in winter while
George Michael croons in the background?” (Answer: Yes, with
cheekbones like his.)
Also in 2019, he joined Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, and
Michelle Dockery in Guy Ritchie's crime caper The Gentlemen, where
he proved he could deliver menace along with charm. And just in
case anyone thought he was all dimples and no danger, he bulked up
and dove into a katana-swinging role as the titular character in Snake
Eyes (2021), a spin-off of the G.I. Joe franchise.
Never one to stay in one genre for long, Golding starred in Monsoon,
a quiet, reflective indie film that took him to Vietnam, and more

And if you're wondering about the surname—yes, he’s heard it

Golf
MAVERICK
Malaysia’s golfing trailblazer with
big dreams, a bigger heart—and
eyes on the Majors!
He may travel the world to compete against the best golfers, but Gavin
Green’s heart is always at home. As Malaysia’s top golf star and the first
to play full-time on the DP World Tour (also known as the European Tour),
Gavin is not only making history—he’s also inspiring the next generation of
local golfers with his humble spirit and powerful drive.
FROM PJ TO THE WORLD
Gavin was born in Klang Valley and spent his early years in Petaling Jaya
before moving to Melaka when he was five. It was there that he first picked
up a golf club during a family outing. “My parents were just starting out in
golf and brought me along to the driving range,” he recalls. “I asked to try,
and the moment I held the club, I sent it flying—literally!”
That moment sparked a lifelong passion. His parents saw his excitement
and made him buy his first junior golf set using his angpow money, teaching
him about commitment. “That was my first real investment,” he says with
a laugh.
52

INSPIRED BY A LEGEND
Like many young golfers, Gavin grew up watching Tiger Woods,
dreaming of one day following in his footsteps. “He inspired me a lot.
I wanted to be like him,” he shares.
By age seven, Gavin was already competing in tournaments. He joined
Malaysia’s national team at a young age and earned several wins in
college. “When I reached number 4 in the world amateur rankings during
my final year in college, I knew I had a shot at turning professional.”
THE CHALLENGES OF GOING PRO
Turning pro came with its own challenges. “It’s not just about playing
golf anymore,” he explains. “Every shot matters—because every shot
is tied to your earnings, your ranking, and your future.”
Every shot
matters—because
every shot is tied
to your earnings,
your ranking, and
your future
As the only Malaysian on the DP World Tour, Gavin plays in places like
Europe, the UK, South Africa and the Middle East—all far from home.
“I don’t base myself overseas. I prefer to live in Malaysia. It’s home for
me. But the constant travel does come with high costs and getting
sponsors is difficult.”
Gavin was all smiles
when he won the Asian
Tour Order of Merit
award in 2017, making
him the first Malaysian
to achieve this
Still, Gavin’s hard work paid off. In 2017, he became the first Malaysian
to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit, giving him full access to the
European Tour.
DOWN-TO-EARTH AND PROUDLY MALAYSIAN
While he’s serious on the course, off the course Gavin is just like any
other Malaysian. “I’m super competitive when I play—I hate losing. But
off the course, I’m a simple guy. I love my nasi lemak, roti canai, and
dim sum. I love being at home and hanging out with friends and family.”
Despite his success, Gavin says people sometimes think he’s unfriendly.
“I’m actually just a shy person. I like keeping things low-key.”
TRAINING, MINDSET AND STAYING MOTIVATED
Gavin takes his training seriously. “I work closely with my coach, Chris
O’Connell, and my trainer, Joel McGuire, to make sure I stay strong,
flexible and injury-free,” he says. Cardio, stretching, and strength
training are part of his regular routine.
Mentally, staying focused is just as important. “Golf can be lonely.
When you miss cuts or go through a bad season, it’s tough. But I
remind myself why I started. I focus on progress, not just results.”
He also credits his support system for keeping him grounded—his
parents, younger brother Galven (who’s also a pro golfer), his caddy
Luke, and a close circle of friends.

REPRESENTING MALAYSIA WITH PRIDE
Among his proudest moments are playing in three Olympic Games—
Rio, Tokyo, and most recently, Paris. “It’s always a huge honour to
represent Malaysia, not just at the Olympics, but every week on tour.”
He’s also proud to be playing at the highest levels of the sport and
hopes to one day earn his PGA Tour card. “Right now, I’m focusing on
being consistent—playing well week in and week out.”

GIVING BACK TO THE GAME
Beyond competing, Gavin is passionate about growing golf in
Malaysia. In 2019, he organised the Gavin Green–SportExcel Junior
Amateur, a fun and successful tournament for young players.
“We had clinics, food trucks, a DJ... it was a full experience. I wanted
to show kids that golf can be fun and exciting,” he says. While he
personally funded most of the event and couldn't sustain it longterm,
the response was overwhelming.
More recently, Gavin co-captained the Albatross Cup, a Ryder Cupstyle
event held at Seri Selangor, alongside fellow Malaysian golf icon
Danny Chia. “It was such a fun event. The crowd loved it, and it really
helped build excitement around the game.”
LOOKING AHEAD
In the coming years, Gavin aims to break into more Major
championships, continue improving his game, and inspire more
young Malaysians to pursue golf. “I don’t know if I’ll go into coaching
yet, but I already help my brother and some friends whenever I can.”
When asked about his legacy, Gavin answers simply:
“I want to be remembered as someone who played with heart,
represented Malaysia with pride, and helped lift the sport in our
country. That would mean everything to me.”
With talent, humility and an unshakeable love for home, Gavin Green is
not just chasing trophies—he’s building a legacy. And as he continues
to shine on the world stage, one thing’s clear: Malaysia couldn’t ask
for a better ambassador in golf.

What truly sets Skypark Kepler within the Lido Waterfront Boulevard master plan
apart apart is its collaboration with global heavyweights in design and hospitality.
The development brings together the renowned Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
(SOM) — one of the world’s leading architectural firms — and the Banyan Group,
which plays a dual role as both collaborator and management company. SOM’s
appointment reflects Tropicana Corporation Berhad’s ambition to position Lido

Waterfront Boulevard as an internationally recognised seafront address. Known for
designing some of the world’s most iconic urban landmarks, SOM’s involvement
brings cutting-edge architectural innovation, future-forward masterplanning, and
sustainable design to the project. Together with Banyan Group’s expertise in luxury
hospitality, this collaboration promises not just elegant residences, but a complete
branded living experience poised to attract global interest from investors, residents,
and luxury travellers alike.
Skypark Kepler also features a carefully curated lifestyle environment that places
wellness, recreation, and social engagement at the heart of the community.
Residents will have access to an expansive Level 9 podium floor, housing 43
lifestyle facilities — from wellness zones and fitness studios to co-working spaces,
children’s play areas, landscaped gardens, and social lounges. These amenities are
designed to support healthy, well-rounded urban living and to foster a sense of
community within the development. While no partnerships for these spaces have
been confirmed at this stage, the possibilities are promising as the broader Lido
Waterfront Boulevard precinct evolves.
Beyond the towers, Skypark Kepler is part of a larger eco-conscious masterplan
that champions sustainability and connectivity. In line with Tropicana’s ESG
(Environmental, Social & Governance) commitments, the broader Lido Waterfront
Boulevard development will feature a 2.5km coastal boardwalk lined with alfresco
dining outlets, a sprawling 32-acre green park with a cultural centre, and an array of
green building technologies. These include 5G infrastructure, EV charging stations,
low heat emission glazing, rainwater harvesting systems, and energy- and waterefficient
fittings. Smart AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) solutions will further
enhance convenience and sustainability in daily living.
Smart city living is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of Skypark Kepler.
Residents will enjoy Samsung Smart Home systems for remote control of home
functions, AI-assisted security features such as facial recognition and intelligent

else wishes they did.
There’s an art to travelling well, and frequent flyers have quietly

hacks will make your journey feel effortlessly first-class.
LOUNGE ACCESS: YOUR SECRET WEAPON
Malaysian Enrich Gold or Oneworld Sapphire/Emerald members

and partner lounges globally, featuring hot meals, shower suites,

JULY/AUGUST 2025 TIPS
TRAVEL IN COMFORT: COMPRESSION, HYDRATION & MOVEMENT
Scientific reviews confirm that wearing 15–20 mmHg compression
socks on flights over four hours significantly lowers the risk of blood
clots and keeps legs fresh. Pair that with frequent aisle walks and
sipping from a refillable water bottle post-security for comfort and
circulation.
CURATED TRAVEL DRAWER: ALWAYS BE READY
Keep a home drawer stocked with travel essentials—passport,
adaptors, chargers, SD cards, emergency meds—so spontaneous
trips don’t turn into frantic packing moments. It’s a simple system
that makes frequent travel smooth and efficient.
TROPICANA LIFESTYLE
75
TRAVEL INSURANCE: THE UNSUNG MVP OF EVERY JOURNEY
Travel insurance is a must, covering medical emergencies, delays,
and lost luggage. Malaysians can rely on providers like Etiqa, Tune
Protect, and Allianz, or enjoy built-in coverage via premium cards
like Maybank Visa Infinite. For global nomads, SafetyWing and World
Nomads are solid bets. A good plan brings peace of mind and real
savings when travel goes off-script.
SMART LUGGAGE TRACKING: REAL-TIME PEACE OF MIND
AirTags have won airline approval, including from Qantas, United,
Lufthansa, and Singapore Airlines, as legitimate support tools to
trace lost luggage. Tucking one into your bag gives you real-time
updates, and some airlines even allow AirTag data sharing with
customer service for faster recovery.
eSIMS: THE DIGITAL GAME-CHANGER FOR ROAMING
You can start skipping airport SIM kiosks, as eSIMs like Airalo, Nomad,
and Malaysia’s own Flexiroam let you activate a data plan before
takeoff. It means immediate connectivity, seamless WhatsApp use,
and zero card fumbling. Most new iPhones, Samsungs, and Pixels
support dual SIMs, perfect for keeping your Malaysian number while
using international data.
The smooothest, most worriless travel
journeys begins before the flight itself:
secure all basic travel insurances, install
your AirTags to your belongings and
ensure your e-payments for the specific
destination are ready on hand.
76
JULY/AUGUST 2025 TIPS
LEVERAGE E-GATES & EID REGISTRATION FOR FASTER IMMIGRATION
Frequent flyers can skip the lines by pre-registering for e-Gates
abroad, available in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and the UK
via schemes like Registered Traveller. Malaysians can also fast-track
via MDAC at KLIA by pre-filling travel declarations. With a biometric
passport and a bit of planning, you’ll land and clear immigration in
record time.
Pre-registering your passport details for
airports that offer e-Gate facilities will do
wonders for the frequent traveller. That
passport can be kept safe inside your bag
at all times.
JET LAG HACKS THAT ACTUALLY WORK
Reset your devices to your destination’s time as soon as you board as
it mentally cues your body to adjust. For morning arrivals, sleep early
on the plane; for evening, stay awake. Melatonin or magnesium helps
regulate your rhythm, sunlight speeds it up, and skipping in-flight
caffeine or alcohol makes a world of difference.
E WALLETS READY FOR WORLDWIDE USE
In today’s nearly cashless travel landscape, setting up your e-wallets
before departure is key. Top up GrabPay, Touch ’n Go, or BigPay
for Southeast Asia trips; for global travels, apps like Wise, Revolut,
and YouTrip help lock in exchange rates and dodge fees. GrabPay
now supports Alipay+, letting you pay Chinese merchants directly.
Wherever you go, always pay in local currency to save on conversions.

HEALTH
HAVEN!
Why Southeast Asia Is the
World’s Hottest Medical
Tourism Destination?
In recent years, countries in the ASEAN region have become
increasingly popular among medical tourists from across the globe.
Patients are drawn to Southeast Asia not only for its competitive
prices and excellent medical services, but also for the high standard
of care and the availability of specialised treatments. While
Singapore has long been the leader in medical tourism within the
region, other ASEAN nations are quickly catching up, offering
unique strengths and expanding their healthcare services to attract
international patients.
One of the biggest attractions of medical tourism in Southeast Asia
is the affordability of healthcare. Medical procedures, including
complex surgeries, can cost significantly less here compared to
many developed countries. In some cases, patients can save up to
60 to 80 percent, making it an appealing option for those who might
not otherwise be able to afford treatment in their home countries.
Despite the lower costs, quality is not compromised. Many
hospitals and clinics in ASEAN countries are equipped with
modern technologies and are staffed by highly qualified doctors
and medical professionals. A number of these facilities have also
received international accreditation, giving patients confidence in
the standard of care they will receive.
Another advantage is the shorter waiting times for procedures and
treatments. In many Western countries, patients may face long
delays before they can receive care. In contrast, Southeast Asian
hospitals are often able to schedule treatments much more quickly,
allowing patients to start their recovery sooner.
86
JULY/AUGUST 2025 THRIVE
ASEAN countries also offer access to a wide range of specialised
treatments. These include cosmetic and plastic surgery, fertility
treatments, dental care, and advanced surgical procedures. The
availability of these services, combined with experienced specialists
and state-of-the-art facilities, has made Southeast Asia a preferred
choice for many seeking focused medical solutions.
Cultural and geographic proximity further adds to the appeal, especially
for patients from within the region. The familiar cultural settings,
similar languages, and close travel distances make ASEAN countries a
convenient and comfortable choice for medical care abroad.
Among the top destinations, Thailand stands out for its reputation
in cosmetic surgery, orthopedic treatments, and cancer care. It is
home to many internationally recognised hospitals that cater to
both local and foreign patients. Malaysia is rapidly establishing
itself as a major medical tourism hub, offering affordable care and
an impressive range of services, from general health screenings to
advanced fertility treatments. Singapore, known for its world-class
healthcare system, remains a key player due to its advanced medical
technologies and strong focus on research and innovation.
Other ASEAN nations, such as Indonesia and Vietnam, are also
experiencing growth in medical tourism. These countries are actively
improving healthcare infrastructure and simplifying procedures for foreign
patients, making them increasingly attractive to international visitors.
Medical tourism in Southeast Asia comes with a range of benefits.
Besides cost savings, patients gain improved access to treatments
that may be limited or delayed in their home countries. Faster
access to medical care can often lead to quicker recovery and a
better overall quality of life.
However, there are also important challenges to consider. In some
countries, such as Singapore, concerns have been raised about
medical tourism potentially drawing resources away from local
patients. Additionally, language and cultural barriers can sometimes
create difficulties for foreign visitors, though many hospitals now
provide dedicated services to support international patients. Finally,
ensuring that patients choose facilities with proper regulation and
accreditation is crucial for safety and effective follow-up care.
In conclusion, medical tourism in ASEAN continues to thrive, offering a
winning combination of affordability, quality, and accessibility. As more
countries in the region invest in their healthcare systems and tailor
their services to meet international demand, Southeast Asia is set to
remain a leading destination for those seeking medical care abroad.
ASEAN markets have become popular destinations for medical
tourists from around the world, offering specialised treatments at
competitive prices along with excellent services. While Singapore
leads the region in medical tourism, other ASEAN markets have also

recognised the potential and made significant advancements to enter
the market, each carving out its unique offerings. These destinations
attract patients seeking high-quality, affordable healthcare, often
with shorter waiting times than in their home countries.
Key Factors Driving Medical Tourism in Southeast Asia:
Affordable Healthcare: Medical procedures are often less expensive
in Southeast Asia compared to developed countries.
High-Quality Healthcare: Southeast Asian countries boast wellregarded
healthcare systems, with many facilities accredited by
international standards.
Shorter Waiting Times: Patients can often access treatments and
procedures more quickly in Southeast Asia than in some Western
countries.
Access to Specialised Treatments: Southeast Asian countries offer
a wide range of specialised treatments, including cosmetic surgery,
fertility treatments, and advanced surgical procedures.
Cultural and Geographic Proximity: For patients within the region,
Southeast Asia is a convenient and culturally similar destination for
medical travel.

CONTINUE THEIR OFFLINE 16 MOVEMENT, TO HIT
1200 PARTICIPANTS ACROSS MALAYSIA!
This year, the OFFLINE 16 event is back, bigger, better, and more impactful
than ever! First launched in 2024, the inaugural event was a smashing
success, garnering over 300 participants and championing both mental
and physical wellness. Spearheaded by the Australian-owned supplement
brand VitaHealth and community builder and master planner Tropicana,
OFFLINE 16 encourages participants to disconnect from digital devices
and reconnect with the world around them. Building on this momentum
and in alignment with both companies’ ESG commitments, this year’s
movement aims to engage over 1,200 participants nationwide.
Unlike last year’s record-breaking 16-hour single event, OFFLINE 16
has evolved into a seriesof themed gatherings, each one designed to
be more accessible, while spotlighting different facets of mindfulness
and wellness. The journey began in May with the Pickleball Challenge
in Penang, followed by a Nature’s Retreat at FRIM, Kepong, in June. The
movement will culminate in its largest edition yet at Tropicana Golf &
Country Resort (TGCR) in August, leading to a final rest-and-recharge
resort retreat this October.

transform Lido Waterfront Boulevard into a dynamic metropolis
of the Southern region. LIDO is one of our most innovative
projects in Johor, and this impressive master plan will be the
new pulse of Johor Bahru City Centre with its close proximity to
the upcoming RTS Link and leveraging on the Johor-Singapore
Special Economic Zone. This is our second collaboration with
SOM. Our first was the successful and iconic W Kuala Lumpur &
The Residences, located within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
With their impressive track record and global talents, the LIDO
masterplan design was awarded to SOM with our collective aim
to set new standards for sustainability and innovation in the
continually growing Johor Bahru city.”

projects, earning a global reputation for highly sustainable and
forward-thinking design. Amongst which are Chicago’s John
Hancock Center, Saudi Arabia's Hajj Terminal, the famous Burj
Khalifa—completed as the world’s tallest building in 2009, and
One World Trade Center, a defining structure that replaces the
towers lost on 11 September. In the Asia Pacific region, SOM
has helped shape the urban landscape of cities like Hong
Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, and Ho Chi Minh City, and
has delivered major developments across China. In Malaysia,
SOM’s recent work on the Bandar Malaysia Master Plan—a
major transit-oriented, mixed-use project in Kuala Lumpur—
demonstrated the firm’s capacity to envision future-ready cities.
These successful track records captured Tropicana’s interest,
