What is a Tour Pass?
The highly coveted backstage tour pass, more commonly known as a laminate, is a
credential issued to artists and their crew, granting access to the restricted, nonpublic
areas of a concert venue. These passes are closely guarded and are not
available to the general public. Laminates often feature advanced security
elements such as holograms and bespoke artwork, designed to deter
counterfeiting. Unlike wristbands or stickers used for short-term or lower-security
access, laminates are typically worn on a lanyard and issued only to performers,
touring crew, management or close family members. Their exclusivity is what
makes them rare and highly prized as memorabilia.
What is AAA?
Access All Areas (AAA) is the most privileged category of tour laminate, granting
unrestricted entry to dressing rooms, the stage and the after-show party!
Whose Tour Passes are These?
This new series of paintings & signed editions by Horace Panter draws on original
laminates from tours he undertook as bassist for The Specials, alongside passes
gifted by friends and fellow musicians such as Mark Bedford (Bedders) of Madness.
The Tour Pass as Pop Art
True to his ethos of elevating the everyday, Horace Panter transforms the
functional and the fleeting into art - just as Andy Warhol did with the Campbell’s
Soup Can. The tour laminate becomes both a symbol of access and a visual
artefact of pop culture history. This is just the beginning of an evolving series that
will grow to feature many other bands and performers.
