Instrumentation Update
Instrument Solutions
for all Industries
continues to grow into additional
markets whilst retaining its core
values. In 2020, ABLE became the
premier e-commerce distributor
for Bartec, experts in providing
safety solutions and products
that prevent explosions. In 2023
ABLE were responsible for 95% of the Bartec’s field
comms equipment range which includes ATEX
cameras, mobile phones, and tablets.
In 1985, Don Burnham and Mike Shortall founded
ABLE Instruments and Controls, on a former
WWII Spitfire base. Don, a physicist, and Mike, an
engineer, established the firm as a distributor of
third-party measurement devices. They identified an
opportunity to supply customers with the required
technology, delivering long-term instrumentation
and control solutions.
“ABLE Instruments & Controls was founded to
fill the void created by the rigid supply nature
of instrumentation manufacturers and the lack
of engineering and support capability exhibited
by traditional representative organisations. The
experience of the company founders whilst working
within both types of organisation and, more
importantly, the frustration of customers when
searching for a solution to their measurement
requirement, directly lead to the formation of
the company in 1985.” David Quelch, Business
Development and Marketing Manager explains.
ABLE is active across a broad range of industries
including oil and gas, power, food, chemical,
pharmaceutical, automotive, original equipment
manufacturer solutions, renewables, water and
heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Whatever
the requirement, the fundamental ethos of ABLE
remains the same. The ABLE framework is based
on vision, evolution, and foundation. The company
vision is to adapt or create relevant instruments
with innovative designs or custom systems with
the client able to access a skilled engineering and
support system in place for the lifetime of the
product. ABLE has grown from a concept into a
global leader in instrument measurement, shifting
away from conventional supply methodology.
The development of the e-commerce brand is
an example of this new methodology, as ABLE
ABLE’s Research and Development team has
spent the past seven to eight years designing
the FlareMaster, an advanced flare metering
system with a modular configuration that has
been deployed in multiple offshore installations.
It features a dual redundancy and a supervisory
system to enhance the performance of ultrasonic
flare gas meters. It also determines the composition
of the flare gas to assist in accurate reporting of
Green House Gases. The FlareMaster is effective
in reducing the uncertainty budget of the gas
density, and for one operator this has led to a major
improvement in emissions reporting and therefore
contributed to Tier III compliance.
ABLE’s instrumentation is in use at Mogden Sewage
Treatment Works. This facility services an area of
55 hectares with approximately 2.1 million users.
ABLE was engaged as part of a £140 million project
by Thames Water to upgrade the site’s Jerome
Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Analysers. ABLE upgraded
all 15 analyser systems to the current generation
of Model J605 and housed each in thermostatically
sealed environmental enclosures.
Since the upgrade, the J605 has improved accuracy
in critical nuisance odour monitoring, plus
automatic sampling and regeneration functionality
that assist in longer term periods of unattended
monitoring. The J605 has been employed by a
variety of water treatment and waste management
companies, as well as regulatory authorities
including the Environment Agency, the Scottish
Environmental Protection Agency, and Natural
Resources Wales.
In further developments, ABLE are Magnetrol’s
partner for exclusive distribution and support in the
UK and Ireland. Magnetrol’s name is synonymous
with an extensive range of innovative level and flow
instrumentation and a highly respected name in
the Oil and Gas industry. Magnetrol, like ABLE, has
a strong ethos to deliver excellent service and with
a competitive pricing structure that complements
ABLE’s own, this partnership has a strong
foundation for long-term success.
The ABLE range includes the Micronics UX5000
ATEX Zone 1 Ultrasonic Clamp-On Flow Meter and
offers precise flow measurement without needing
process downtime. Certified for Zones 1 and 2, it
has an Intrinsically Safe measurement system with
wet-calibrated transducers for reliable accuracy. The
UX5000 features a separate display (DCSIU) and
measurement unit (RMU) for flexible installation. This
flow meter is ideal for harsh applications in industries
like chemicals, water, and oil and being used to
measure liquid hydrocarbon flow in oil processing
and various chemical industry measurements.
Going forward, Dave explains what the future will hold.
“ABLE are suppliers of a wide diversity of both cutting
edge and traditional instrumentation to the process
and research industries. We move into our 5th decade
of operation as an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT),
having obtained all the shares from the previous
shareholder and thereby securing the independence
and succession of ownership of the business.”
“We continue to remain faithful to the philosophy
on which the company was founded, to supply
solutions and not just products. ABLE has forged
long term relationships with some of the strongest
brands in the world of process control and analytical
measurement and developed our own solutions to
some of the more difficult measurements across
the oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, utilities,
food and pharmaceutical sectors.”

To better serve these industries, in 2024 Elta created
a new mantra ‘Air Movement, Air Quality’ to better
encapsulate its vision, mission and comprehensive
range of solutions.
Mark Rickard, CEO at Elta Group commented, “This
strapline underscores two pivotal aspects that are at
the heart of our business. Air Movement signifies our
commitment to engineering excellence, innovation,
and precision in every aspect of our products. While Air
Quality emphasises the role we play in ensuring cleaner,
healthier and safer indoor environments.”
“We’re often described as the sleeping giant of the
ventilation industry, which is evidenced by many
companies increasing their specifications with us once
through the door. Ultimately, we can build any type
of fan or ventilation system required which people
sometimes don’t realise. We often see a simple enquiry
evolve into us delivering a full solution and that’s what
this investment into the business is all about.”
“We are well known for our industry-leading
fans – a critical element of any
ventilation system. However, industry
professionals well know that there
is so much more to ventilation
specification and our business
is well-equipped with a
wide suite of solutions and

the charge on improving air
quality throughout the built
environment.”
Elta is an industry leader in
fan technology, air handling
units, noise control equipment
and controls, delivering holistic

all the same qualities and expertise that the company
was founded on over ago 50 years ago. Elta is always
enhancing and growing its already successful product
range to include more fans, noise control equipments,
air handling units, and accessories.
Another exciting milestone for the company occurred
back in December last year. In addition to being ATEX
certified, Elta achieved IECEx Certification which is
the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC)
certification program for equipment and services used
in explosive atmospheres. As a globally recognised
standard, this achievement has bolstered Elta’s
portfolio following a two-year auditing period.
Elta was awarded the certification for its range of
direct driven axial fans. The process involved factory
production control audits and comprehensive
assessments of design, manufacturing, and quality
control procedures to ensure compliance with IEC
standards. Neville Tubb, Chief Engineer at Elta, said,
“Safety always needs to be of the utmost importance
in hazardous environments. All industries where there
is the potential for explosion are beginning to see the
value in having equipment that is third-party certified,
and that is why we are thrilled to receive the
IECEx certification. It is a testament
to our team’s hard work and our
unwavering commitment to safety
and quality. It reinforces our
position as a trusted partner
in the industry and highlights
our ability to meet the
stringent safety standards
required.”
In recognition of its
unwavering commitment to
innovation, safety, and British
manufacturing excellence, Elta
has rightfully earned its place as
an industry leader in the field of
air quality and air movement. With

Cleaning Update
How to decide between
commercial floor sweepers and
commercial vacuum cleaners
When it comes to maintaining
pristine commercial spaces, the
choice between a commercial
vacuum cleaner and a commercial
floor sweeper can significantly impact
cleanliness and operational efficiency.
Understanding these differences is
crucial for ensuring your cleaning efforts
align with your business’ needs.
What are the benefits and what does a
commercial floor sweeper do?
When deciding between a commercial
floor sweeper and a vacuum cleaner, the
environment and types of debris play
a crucial role. Floor sweepers excel in
environments where debris like dust, dirt
and larger particles accumulate over broader
areas. For instance, in retail environments
where floors are often expansive and debris
can vary in size, a commercial floor sweeper
proves indispensable. These machines use
powerful brushes and suction mechanisms
to efficiently gather and trap debris,
ensuring thorough cleaning without
stirring up dust.
The benefits extend beyond cleanliness.
Using a sweeper reduces the physical strain
on cleaning staff, allowing them to cover
large areas more quickly and effectively.
This not only boosts productivity but also
enhances employee satisfaction by reducing
fatigue and repetitive strain injuries.
Moreover, a cleaner environment enhances
safety for both staff and visitors, minimising
slip hazards and maintaining a professional
appearance that positively impacts
customer perceptions.
What are the benefits and what does a
commercial vacuum cleaners do?
In contrast, commercial vacuum cleaners
are tailored for environments where
precision and manoeuvrability are key.
Offices, hotels, retail stores and healthcare
facilities often require vacuum cleaners
that can navigate tight spaces, corners and
various floor types with ease. Tennant’s
range includes lightweight backpack
vacuums for multi-level buildings, wide-area
cleaning path vacuums for open spaces and
low-profile canister vacuums for reaching
under furniture.
The benefits of using commercial vacuum
cleaners go beyond convenience. These
machines not only remove visible dirt
and debris but also capture fine particles
and allergens, promoting better indoor
air quality. This is especially crucial in
environments like healthcare facilities
and offices, where maintaining a clean
and healthy environment directly impacts
employee productivity and customer
satisfaction. Clean, allergen-free spaces also
contribute to a positive perception of your
business, demonstrating your commitment
to health and cleanliness.
From commercial sweepers to vacuum
cleaners – Tennant has you covered
Ultimately, selecting the right cleaning
equipment – whether a commercial floor
sweeper or vacuum cleaner – depends
on understanding your specific cleaning
challenges and environment. By investing

Smart Manufacturing & Engineering Week Review
MRPeasy’s first time at the Smart Factory Expo
– a resounding success
s one of the UK’s flagship manufacturing innovation
Aevents, the Smart Factory Expo brought together key
players in the industry, and MRPeasy was thrilled to be part
of the action for the first time.
A growing system for growing manufacturers
MRPeasy offers a cloud-based ERP/MRP system built
specifically for small and mid-sized manufacturers. The
platform integrates production, inventory, sales, purchases,
and finances, enabling manufacturers to generate airtight
production schedules, achieve full traceability, understand
their actual costs, and scale operations, all without the
complexity or cost of traditional enterprise systems.
MRPeasy has grown steadily and now supports over 2,000
manufacturers in more than 60 countries. The UK alone
accounts for more than 500 clients, a testament to the
platform’s global appeal and local success.
At the expo, MRPeasy stood shoulder-to-shoulder with
some of the industry’s most established ERP providers,
and we were proud to demonstrate that our solution
can compete at the highest level, combining intuitive
usability with powerful functionality tailored for small
manufacturers.
A safe bet in a risky landscape
Several of our UK partners and clients highlighted
something we hear more and more often: MRPeasy is seen
as a risk-free choice in a
field where ERP systems
are often associated
with high costs, long
implementation times,
and overwhelming
complexity.
With MRPeasy,
manufacturers can start
small, see real value
within a month, and
avoid the heavy upfront
investment that often
holds companies back.
This clear competitive
edge resonated strongly
throughout the event.
Engaging with old
friends and new faces
Our team of consultants
was busy throughout
both days of the
expo, giving dozens
of live demos and
discussing real-world
manufacturing challenges with attendees. It was especially
rewarding to meet long-time MRPeasy users in person,
many of whom shared how the system has grown with
them and helped them improve their operations.
To everyone who took the time to stop by our booth, thank
you! Whether you were exploring ERP systems for the first
time or looking to take your operations to the next level, we
appreciated every conversation, question, and connection.
We’re excited by the momentum we felt at the event
and grateful for the recognition we received for being a
strong, reliable ERP partner to small and medium-sized
manufacturers across the UK.
We look forward to continuing the conversations started
at Smart Factory Expo and hope to see you again at future
events.

Lean Assembly workbenches: Ergonomic, flexible and efficient
RK Rose+Krieger supplies assembly workbenches
which are tailored to specific demands and ergonomic
considerations and can also be integrated into digital
production environments as required. The RK Easywork
worktable is characterised by its customisability. It can
be converted flexibly and is available as both a standard
worktable and a special solution ideally adapted to the
working/manufacturing process.
Not every production process can be automated
in a practical manner. This applies above all to the
manufacturing of complex products in small quantities
with a high variability and working sequences and
special solutions which cannot be automated in a
practical manner. In order to be able to manufacture
these kinds of products and perform these kinds of
sequences efficiently, special assembly workstations
which can be integrated into the digital working
environment, are required.
The demands made of such workstations are high, they
not only have to relieve the employee of physically
demanding or monotonous tasks but also have to
help to ensure that the working sequences in question
are implemented safely and flawlessly. Moreover, the
reliability of assembly also has to be guaranteed in the
event of an employee change – a particularly critical
factor when it comes to quality assurance.
The cost-efficiency of these workstations is ensured
because they adapt variably to the respective tasks and
can be converted in a straightforward manner for new
purposes. When combined with (partially) automated
removal and loading devices, such as the SETAGO
pick to light system or the poka-yoke system, they
also guarantee reliable, flawless production processes.
These kinds of assembly workstations can of course be
designed to be suitable for ESD and/or cleanrooms and
be combined with collaborative robots.
Their configuration is as sophisticated as the
requirements for digitalised, ergonomic manual
workstations. It can therefore prove more time and
cost-efficient to turn to an expert like RK Rose+Krieger
when it comes to designing a suitable workstation,
rather than attempting to put together all the elements
yourself. After all, it requires comprehensive knowledge
in the fields of mechanics, electronics and software
solutions in order to realise an assembly workstation for
safe and reliable processes and machines. Furthermore,
an experienced supplier like RK Rose+Krieger
not only supplies a workstation produced for the
specific demands but also provides comprehensive
documentation and guarantees assured quality.

New UNISIG operating system
streamlines the human-robot
interface
Representing a leap forward in
programming, UNISIG’s next-generation
operating system further improves
the human-robot interface and slashes
programming times.
The new operating system, featured on UNISIG’s
UNE6-2i-750-CR small-diameter gundrilling
machine, streamlines the setup of dozens of
different part handling combinations to reduce
new part setup times by 80% or more. The system
significantly improves the communication between
the machine’s human machine interface (HMI) and
the robotic controller. This enables centralized data
storage or a single source of truth – the coding and
data for the gundrilling operation and the program
for the part handling are stored together for ease
of recall.
Because it works within a parametric programming
environment, the new operating system
automatically adjusts its parameters to any
dimensional part changes, without the need to
manually calculate and enter in new parameters.
Such intelligence eliminates the need to start
over and create entirely new and independent
programs, while greatly simplifying and shortening
programming times for part families.
The UNE6-2i-750-CR gundrilling machine with
integrated robot ships with a handheld programming
console/teach pendant connected to the machine.
Prior to the use of parametric programming, all part
handling operations were pre-programmed using the
pendant. Users can now enter & store all machine &
robotic parameters in the machine HMI. This allows
for a more centralized user experience and greatly
reduces the depth of robotic experience required.
The machine HMI has built-in parametric selection
guides, allowing users to toggle between data entry
and the programming guides. Each data value,
and its function, are graphically displayed in the
on-screen programming guide. This prevents the
guide from being misplaced and makes it available
at all times, which is especially advantageous when
periodically adding new parts involving large time
gaps between them.
The UNE6-2i-750-CR with integrated robotic
automation also features interchangeable part trays.
The robot services both the machine’s spindles and
accommodates drilling of different diameters from
each end.
The optional lantern chuck system on this machine
model allows workpiece loading into the rear of an
automatic collet chuck to ensure accurate workholding,
especially for uniquely shaped workpieces.
UNISIG’s UNE6 Series of precision gundrilling
machines generate holes from 0.8mm to 6.0mm
(0.03” to 0.24”) in even the most challenging of
materials. Such capability makes the machines well
suited for a wide range of applications, including
medical part manufacturing.
Further information on all machines and the
complete UNISIG machine program is available

Challenge what you know about CIJ – Rotech at PPMA 2025
Rotech will be returning to this year’s PPMA
Total Show, bringing their best in class coding
solutions, including a range of continuous inkjet
printers, from their newest partner LEIBINGER.
Taking centre stage will be the award-winning
IQJET, a CIJ printer designed to overcome many
of the frustrations manufacturers have simply
learned to live with.
CIJ reimagined
The IQJET is engineered to deliver maximum
reliability in the most demanding of production
environments. It’s fully automatic nozzle seal,
a signature feature of every LEIBINGER printer,
allows the ink circuit to be totally airtight
between production runs, ensuring a trouble-free
and rapid start up every morning and preventing
delays in production.
The nozzle seal, in conjunction with LEIBINGER’s
Eco-Solve system, delivers dramatic savings in
fluid use, further adding to the value proposition
of the range.
Expanded capabilities, same practical focus
With the addition of LEIBINGER CIJ, Rotech’s
capabilities are broader than ever. Their
industrial inkjet offering now spans an even
wider range of production line demands, from
high-speed bottling and canning lines to flatform
cartons and direct-to-box printing.
Whatever the line set up or coding requirement,
Rotech delivers consistent, high-quality codes
wherever they are needed. All whilst maintaining
the same sharp focus on uptime and down-toearth
service.
In-house, in control
A selection of Rotech’s range of in-house built
feeding systems will also be on show, serving as a
reminder of the company’s long-standing strength
in offline coding. For businesses working with
packaging types that are tricky to code on-line,
these systems offer an ideal solution. They’re
versatile, extremely easy to use and have been
designed with the operator in mind.
The Rotech difference
Rotech’s way of working is shaped by real-world
experience and a clear understanding of what
production teams actually need. With LEIBINGER
CIJ now part of the range, they can support more
coding applications than ever while keeping
things straightforward and production focused.
At this year’s PPMA Total Show, visitors will be
able to see that in action. From the latest inkjet
technology to well-established feeding systems,
everything on Stand A31 is there to solve real
coding challenges.
Come and see the IQJET up close, speak to the
team and explore how Rotech can help you do
coding differently.

Packaging machinery specialist
GREIF-VELOX launches ‘Packaging
as a Service’ for ultra-light
powder bagging
ith its new
W‘Packaging as
a Service’ (PaaS)
model, Greif-Velox
Maschinenfabrik GmbH is
introducing an integrated
service package for
industrial powder
bagging – without
upfront investment.
The offering includes
machine provision,
financing, service, spare
parts, and consumables, as well as ondemand
delivery of matching paper bags
– all at a fixed monthly rate.
End-to-end solution for ultra-light powders
Whereas existing PaaS models in the packaging
sector have mostly focused on cartons or
reusable containers, Greif-Velox is applying
this principle to complex industrial bagging
systems – and taking it one step further:
The package covers not only consumables
but the entire process from financing and
commissioning to spare parts supply.
The first application of this model is
combined with Greif-Velox’ VeloVac
vacuum technology, designed for dust-free
filling of ultra-light powders. An expansion
to include other machine types such as the
fully automatic filling system A-DOS-P1 and
the BVP gross pneumatic packer is already
planned.
Flexibility, predictability, and process
reliability
“Today, many companies are looking for
ways to create cost flexibility, avoid capital
expenditure, and ensure maximum system
availability,” says Sebastian Pohl, Managing
Director of Greif-Velox. “That’s exactly where
our PaaS model comes in: It transforms
high upfront costs into predictable monthly
expenses – while relieving our customers of
the burden of maintenance, spare parts, and
consumables. This frees up capacity for what
matters most: their core business.”

Print & Packaging Update
Herb supplier spices up production packaging with
compact line
Packing speed and quality have been significantly
improved for one food production company,
regardless of the limited space in their production
facility. A compact automatic l-sealer was supplied
by Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS) to achieve
their goals.
Green Cuisine are specialist producers of herbs,
spices and seasonings. Established in 1990, they
supply several million packs per year to the UK and
Europe. Their range of over 150 different products
are supplied in jars, tins and boxes, plus specially
shaped gift packaging.
Green Cuisine previously operated a semi-automatic
packaging line. However, this line was becoming
increasingly unreliable with poor quality seals
and had always been
time-consuming to
operate. They discussed
their requirements for
a faster and higher
quality alternative with
a number of packaging
equipment suppliers,
before opting for YPS’
proposal.
“YPS really listened to
our specific needs and
offered us equipment
that was a little different to the norm,
so that it perfectly suited all our
requirements,” commented Jules Pike,
Director at Green Cuisine.
YPS supplied a Pratika Smart 55 compact
l-sealer. “This machine offers the benefits
of an automatic l-sealer, such as speed,
precise sealing and fast changeovers,
all with a much smaller footprint, ideal
for the limited space available at Green
Cuisine,” explained YPS Sales Manager,
Jacques-Pierre Macchi.
The l-sealer provides a shelf-ready finish for
a wide variety of products
The Pratika Smart 55 combines sealer
and tunnel in one machine, resulting in a
total line length that is at least 1.5 metres
shorter than
one made up of a sealer

The latest e-Flex twin servo flexo press
with automated pre-register functions can
be specified with multiple drying options,
including UV, LED, infra-red and chill rollers.
The dual servo system provides single
touch set ups, with minimal waste for
conventional printing and can be combined
with a digital module for variable data,
text & images.
The touchscreen HMI operator controls
provide a fully programmable digital
platform, plus storage of job details for
future retrieval and are said to make the
e-Flex, the most effective, affordable servodriven
flexo/digital combination press in
the marketplace today.
The e-Flex incorporates top-loading print
cylinders and quick-change print cartridges
to reduce downtime and set-up wastage.
A choice of ultra-efficient interstation
drying systems enables much higher press
speeds. The short web-path allows for a
compact design, while still maintaining
good accessibility for the operator and
plenty of space for optional equipment. A
rail system is available for overhead press
options, including delam/relam, rotary cold
foil transfer, silk screen, turn-bar, and multilayer
re-register laminating.
