Styling H

Your Ou

FASHION

By Oma Damian

We’ve all

had those

mornings,

which seem

to be long by the

way - staring into the

wardrobe, feeling like

you have “nothing to

wear” even though it’s

overflowing. But here’s

a little secret: it’s not

always about buying

new clothes. Sometimes,

it’s how you wear them -

at least that’s what I do.

With a few clever styling

tricks, you can elevate

even your most basic

outfit into a full-blown

glam look.

Here are 10 easy

styling hacks that’ll

instantly take your

outfit from meh to

main character

energy:

1

Layer Like a Pro

Layering adds instant

dimension and gives your look

that effortlessly cool vibe. Throw

a denim jacket over a sundress,

wear a button-down under a

crewneck, or toss on a vest

over a T-shirt.

The trick is mixing textures

and playing around just like

a guesswork (you know what!

Exactly like a guesswork).

3

French Tuck =

Instant Chic

Tucking the front of your shirt or

sweater into your pants or skirt

(and leaving the back out) gives

a relaxed, flattering shape

without trying too hard. It’s an

easy win for jeans-and-tee days.

2

Cinch It with a Belt

Never underestimate the

power of a good belt.

Whether it’s around a blazer,

dress, or oversized Wearing

a shirt that cinches your

waist gives you a sharp

shape, which is like a

confident booster.

4

Roll It Up

Roll up your sleeves, cuff

your jeans, or fold the hem

of your tee. These little

tweaks create structure and

intentionality — it says,

“I know what I’m doing,”

even if you got dressed in

five Minutes.

5

Accessories Like

You Mean It

Statement earrings, layered

necklaces, stacked rings, a

bold bag — accessories are

your outfit’s finishing touch.

Even the simplest outfit can

shine with the right add-ons.

Don’t play with this one!

Even if you have your doubts

about the rest.

7

Monochrome

Magic

6

Play With

Proportions

Balance is everything.

Oversized top? Pair it with

fitted bottoms. Baggy

jeans? Try a crop or tuckedin

blouse. Playing with

proportions adds drama

and edge without going

overboard.

Wearing one colour (or

shades of the same hue)

from head to toe instantly

makes you look more puttogether.

Neutrals are a

safe bet, but don’t sleep on

bold monochrome moments

either. Try other bright,

vibrant colours like deep

shades of green or orange.

6

8

The Power of

a Third Piece

FASHION

This one’s straight from the

stylist playbook: an outfit

with three elements (top,

bottom, + a “third piece” like

a blazer, vest, r scarf) always

looks more intentional. It adds

depth and personality.

9

Shoes Make

the Statement

Shoes can completely shift

your vibe. Sneakers say chill,

heels say boss, boots say

baddie, loafers say chic. Try

switching them up to give

your outfit a different mood.

10

Confidence -

Always in Style

The real upgrade? Wearing

anything with confidence. Posture,

energy, and attitude will always be

your best accessories. Own it, and

the world will follow. Something I try

every morning that helps, I look into

a mirror and I say “There’s no one

prettier, there’s no one badder”

trust me, it works like magic.

RUNWAY REPORT

Balenciaga

Fall

2025 Couture

Collection

By Oma Damianx

The Balenciaga Fall 2025 Couture

Collection redefines opulence

through a striking fusion of avantgarde

design and meticulous

craftsmanship, encapsulating the brand’s

commitment to pushing boundaries in

high fashion. Showcasing a diverse range

of silhouettes, from sculptural.

From evening dresses to structured

outerwear, each piece reflects an

exploration of form, texture, and colour

that challenges conventional paradigms.

Isabelle Huppert brought theatrical flair

as the ultimate Parisian grande dame,

effortlessly swinging a handbag from

her elbow while donning black corseted

trousers and a couture-enhanced,

sculptural turtleneck. Eva Herzigova went

full supermodel in a neon yellow satin

bustier gown with exaggerated padded

hips and dramatic twists. Even Demna’s

husband,

BFRND, joined the spectacle—casually

slouched in an oversized business

suit, absurdly elongated derbies, and

clutching a sleek, ominous black leather

laptop case.

As this theatrical procession—framed

by Demna as an exploration of la

bourgeoisie dress codes—unfolded, the

names of Balenciaga’s team, including

the creative director himself, were

spoken over the soundtrack. It served as

a heartfelt tribute to those who brought

his vision to life—those who mastered

the sculpting, moulding, corseting, and

engineering of his signature

forward-leaning, monolithic Nosferatu

shoulders. In short, the very people who

helped define the distinctive Demna

aesthetic that has transformed the fashion

landscape over the last decade.

As Balenciaga continues to disrupt

traditional couture norms under its

creative vision, this collection exemplifies

a sophisticated dialogue between art and

wearability, positioning itself as a pivotal

moment in contemporary fashion history.

See the collection as compiled by

Vogue.

Anna

Wintour:

“Fashion’s Reigning Queen

Steps into a New Era!”

By Martina Akanthe

A World Defined by Fashion

Fashion isn’t just about

clothes; it’s about identity,

power, expression, and

reinvention. From runways to

sidewalks, the way we dress

tells stories before we ever

speak.

For the past three decades,

the woman crafting the

global narrative of style

has been Anna Wintour.

Recognised instantly by her

iconic bob, ever-present

sunglasses, and impeccable

poise, Wintour isn’t just a

fashion editor; she is a cultural

architect. As she steps into

a new era, Glamsquad

Magazine delve into the

life, legacy, and indelible

influence of the woman who

ruled fashion’s front row.

Born for Style: Early Life and

Family

Anna Wintour was born

on 3rd November 1949, in

Hampstead, a wealthy suburb

of London. Fashion may have

run in her veins, but so did

journalism. Her father, Charles

Wintour, was the editor of

the ‘Evening Standard’, a

prominent British newspaper,

and her mother, Eleanor

“Nonie” Trego Baker, was an

American philanthropist.

Anna, the third of five

children, grew up in a

household that celebrated

intellect, discipline, media,

art, and culture. It is worth

noting that through her

Father’s tutelage, Anna

was able to develop strong

editorial instincts that have

helped define her career.

The Spark: Anna Steps into

Fashion and Journalism

Anna’s romance with fashion

began in her teenage years.

At 15, she started styling her

hair in the same signature

bob she wears today. After

dropping out of North London

Collegiate School, she

entered the world of fashion

journalism, bypassing formal

education to follow her

REPORTAGE

instincts and ambition.

Her first job was at Harper’s

& Queen (now Harper’s

Bazaar) in London, where

she worked as an editorial

assistant. However, it didn’t

take long before Anna moved

to New York City, where the

fashion scene was electric

and evolving.

In New York, Anna held

positions at magazines like

Harper’s Bazaar, Savvy,

and New York Magazine,

where she was known for

her bold fashion sense and

unrelenting drive. In the long

run, designers quickly realised

that Anna had an innovative

mind’s eye, not just for

clothes, but for trends before

they happened.

Vogue

In 1892, American

businessman Arthur Baldwin

Turnure founded Vogue

Magazine, a weekly

newspaper that catered

to New York’s high society,

focusing on social life and

style beyond mere fashion.

In New York, Anna

held positions at

magazines like

Harper’s Bazaar,

Savvy, and New

York Magazine,

where she was

known for her bold

fashion sense and

unrelenting drive.

At the time, Kristoffer Wright

funded it with its first issue,

published on 17th December

1892.

In 1909, Condé Nast, a

media company owned by

Condé Montrose, bought

Vogue and turned it into a

fashion magazine. Vogue

grew into a global brand

known for setting trends,

not just following them.

Today, Vogue has twentyeight

international editions,

as people still turn to it for

fashion, beauty, and culture

because it always knows

what is next and never stops

changing.

A Lifelong Legacy Begins

In 1988, Anna Wintour took

over the leadership of Vogue

from Grace Mirabella and

was appointed Editor-in-

Chief at a time when the

magazine was slipping from

the spotlight. However, under

Anna’s leadership, Vogue

transformed by modernising

the publication.

Gone were the overly

posed models in unattainable

couture, and then came

in a more dynamic,

approachable, and diverse

view of fashion. Ann’s first

cover featuring Israeli model,

Michaela Bercu, wearing a

Christian Lacroix jacket over

stonewashed jeans, sent

a sharp message about a

radical shift: ‘fashion was no

longer just for the elite’.

Anna revolutionised fashion

journalism. She blended high

fashion with street style, made

celebrities like Kim Kardashian

and Rihanna cover staples,

and transformed Vogue into a

cultural guide. She launched

new editions worldwide,

REPORTAGE

supported young designers

through the Council of

Fashion Designers of America

(CFDA)/Vogue Fashion Fund,

and managed the Met Gala,

turning it into fashion’s most

glamorous and eagerly

anticipated night.

She built a reputation for

being both revered and

feared. Her standards were

strict, her decisions decisive

and final. The 2006 film The

Devil Wears Prada, based

on a novel by her former

assistant, popularised the

myth of her icy demeanour.

But those who worked closely

with her describe someone

much more complex: fiercely

loyal, knowledgeable, and

unwaveringly dedicated to

excellence.

She wasn’t just curating

fashion; she was shaping

conversation, supporting

causes like political activism,

diversity, and sustainability

long before they became

mainstream fashion topics.

A Farewell

On 26th June 2025, after 37

years in charge at Vogue

and serving as Artistic

Director of Condé Nast, Anna

announced that she would

be stepping down from her

leadership roles. As expected,

the announcement sent

waves through the fashion

industry, but really, she is not

disappearing; she will remain

involved in a more visionary,

ambassadorial role. It marks

the end of a monumental era.

Designers, editors,

and cultural figures have

paid tributes, calling her

irreplaceable. For many,

Vogue was Anna, and Anna

was Vogue. She wasn’t just an

editor; she was the oracle of

fashion’s future.

The New Chapter: The Queen

of Style Reigns On...

As Anna enters this new

phase of her life, she

remains a forward thinker,

having expressed interest in

mentoring the next generation

of creatives, supporting

philanthropic endeavours,

and continuing her work with

the Metropolitan Museum of

Art’s Costume Institute.

Though the crown of being

the leader may have been

passed, the fashion kingdom

she built remains. Anna’s

taste, influence, and legacy

are woven into every page

of every fashion magazine,

every runway collection, and

every aspiring editor’s dream.

The fashion world may evolve,

but its foundation was laid by

Anna, flawlessly, fearlessly,

and unapologetically.

For the record, Anna

Wintour didn’t just report

fashion; she ruled it with

vision, resilience, and her

trademark pair of shades. She

reshaped how the world sees

beauty, identity, and power.

As she steps away from the

editorial frontlines and into a

more reflective role, one truth

remains undeniable: fashion

will never be the same without

her, but it will always bear her

imprint.

Three Life Lessons from Anna

Wintour

1. Trust Your Instincts: Anna

Wintour is a master of decisive

leadership. She once said,

“I’m decisive, and I like to

get things done quickly.”

Throughout her career, she’s

trusted her gut—whether

it was putting an unknown

model on the cover of Vogue

or mixing high fashion with

mass-market brands before

it was trendy. Her success

proves that clarity of vision,

not consensus, often leads to

greatness.

2. Evolve or Be Left Behind:

Well, it is glaring that Anna

never stopped evolving from

rebranding Vogue in the late

‘80s to championing diversity

and digital storytelling in the

2000s. She revealed her inner

understanding that fashion

and life are about change.

She once said, “Fashion is

not about looking back.

It’s always about looking

forward.”

3. Work Hard: Behind the

polished appearance is a

woman who has built her

fashion empire through

Designers, editors,

and cultural

figures have paid

tributes, calling

her irreplaceable.

For many, Vogue

was Anna, and

Anna was Vogue.

She wasn’t just an

editor; she was the

oracle of fashion’s

future.

By Martina Akonthe

In a world where noise often drowns out substance,

Temiloluwa Elizabeth Otedola stands out by doing the

opposite, letting her quiet confidence speak volumes.

She does not engage in drama, nor does she seek

validation. Instead, she has proven, time and again,

that the path to success can be silent yet golden.

Temi has successfully stepped into her spotlight. The

daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola is making

waves in both the fashion and film industries, captivating

audiences with her unique blend of elegance and talent.

A private life in the public eye

Despite Temi’s high-profile background, she maintains a

relatively low-key presence on social media, often sharing

glimpses of her life with her singer husband, Oluwatosin

Ajibade, better known as Mr Eazi. Their relationship,

marked by mutual respect and shared creative pursuits,

offers a refreshing contrast to the often sensationalised

world of celebrity romances.

a role that strengthens her influence

and commitment to representing

African beauty on a global stage.

Her runway debut came in

September 2024 at the L’Oréal Paris

Le Défilé show during Paris Fashion

Week. Dressed in a striking red

balloon corset dress, Temi captivated

the audience and added a personal

touch by applying L’Oréal lipstick

mid-walk, an act that symbolises

empowerment.

Beyond the runway, Temi has been

a prominent figure at major fashion

events, attending shows in London,

Milan, and Paris. Her appearances at

Versace’s Spring-Summer 2025 show

and other high-profile events have

solidified her status as a fashion icon.

Her fashion website, ‘JTO Fashion’,

showcases the depth of her newest

muse.

A promising acting career

Temi’s acting debut came in 2020

with the Netflix film Citation, directed

by Kunle Afolayan. She portrayed

Moremi Oluwa, a university student

who challenges sexual harassment

in academia. Her performance

was met with criticism, while some

audience members noted that

she wasn’t energetic enough for

the central character role. Others,

however, applauded her, considering

that it was her debut and she had to

speak English, Yoruba, and French.

Despite this, Temi bagged the Best

Actress in a Leading Role Award

(African Collaboration) in 2021 at

the 10th edition of the Ghana Movie

Awards, held virtually on December

30, 2020, due to the COVID-19

pandemic.

The film, which also starred Jimmy

Jean-Louis as Prof. Lucien N’Dyare,

Joke Silva, Ini Edo, Ibukun Awosika,

Yomi Fash-Lanso, Gabrial Afolayan,

and Bukunmi Oluwashina, among

others, tackled pressing social issues.

The film also showed scenes and

music from Cape Verde, Senegal,

and the Obafemi Awolowo University

campus in Nigeria.

Temi also starred in the 2022

Cinema debut film, ‘The Man for the

Job’, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan,

where she took on the role of Zina.

The Quiet Force

In contrast to her immediate elder

Time and Energy

“Value your energy. Value your time. Time is a

finite resource you can never get back or buy.

What are you doing with the 24 hours you get

each day? Stop waiting for the right moment.

The time is now. I’m out here trying to live my life

to the fullest these days. Who’s joining me?”

Self-Worth:

“Never be anyone’s second choice.”

Fashion and Acting

“Both of them are still very close to my heart; I will

always be designing and doing fashion, but also,

this is my one true love. So I’ll continue acting.”

Overcoming Privilege Stereotypes

“People love a rags-to-riches story... But I think to

a certain point, if you’ve come from a privileged

background, that privilege can only take you so

far. And hard work, determination, and being a

good person will take you the rest of that 40 or 50

per cent.”

Bridal Styles to

Crochet Designs:

Veekee James and

Hooked by Lade Fuses

African Fashion

By Adewumi Victoria

Ruth Erikan James is a merger of African

fashion and modern styles. Little wonder when

she said that “there’s no bad weather, there’s

just wrong clothes”, many agreed with her.

Veekee James has built her brand over the

years to portray bespoke bridal outfits designed for

every kind of occasion.

Her outfits can be easily recognised without

mentioning her brand name. This is because she has

built her brand with sophistication, attention to detail,

craftsmanship and luxurious fabrics. Veekee James

once said that “she wants people to see a dress and

know that Veekee James makes it without anyone

telling them”. And she is making this happen.

Whenever there’s an honourable event gathering

celebrities and high-profile personalities, Veekee

James embodies the red carpet dresses fused with

beading, lacework, and Embellishments. Lovers of the

Veekee James brand always say, “she is who she says

she is”.

Priscilla Ojo, Funke Akindele, Toke Makinwa,

Sharon Ooja, and many other celebrities have worn

Veekee James’ designs. Sometime ago, Veekee

James revealed that she charges in dollars and she

doesn’t make any dress whose equivalent is below

#1,000,000.

If you agree, Nigeria is a classist society, and

numerous Nigerian celebrities now use Veekee

James’ dress to show class. Little wonder you have to

be in a particular class of wealth and friendship to be

able to afford a Veekee James dress.

The Veekee James brand doesn’t only make

dresses, it tells stories of African heritage. The brand

has been globally recognised by Forbes Africa’s 30

Under 30 list, CNN African Voices and many more.

As a mantra for uplifting African

heritage and embodying African

fashion with modern designs,

Veekee James has collaborated

with many fashion designers over

the years. Among these fashion

designers is Omobolade Kolade,

the founder of “Hooked by Lade” -

a fashion brand that uses crochet

to create dresses and handbags.

Kolade Bolade is a graduate

of Architecture. She infuses her

creativity degree into crochet.

She united the two professions -

fashion and architecture. Kolade

once said, “I can only infuse my

knowledge of architecture with my

knowledge of crochet and bring

both worlds together”.

Crochet Fashion is currently

gaining weight among fashion

trends - “Veekee James”

and“Hooked by Lade” fuses

African fashion to shed more

light on the uniqueness of

Africanheritage.“Veekee James”

recently rocked three crochet

dresses created by “Hooked by

Lade” and thetwo fashion designers

are using their collaboration to

tell stories of diversity, Africanism,

inclusivity, femininity, body

positivity and confidence. Veekee

James rocked three stunning and

aesthetically pleasing crochet

dresses from “Hooked by Lade.”

This fusion between the “Veekee

James” brand and “Hooked by

Lade” makes Kolade happy, and

she has something to say: “From

crocheting as a hobby in the

corner of my room, to having icons

rock my custom-made outfit”, her

words. With every stitch and weave,

“Veekee James” and “Hooked

by Lade” showcase tradition and

innovation, redefining the narrative

of African fashion.

Through their work,s they

showcase the African continent’s

rich cultural heritage and creativity,

and inspire a new generation

of fashion enthusiasts to push

boundaries.

Their creative imagination

continues to leave an indelible

mark on the African fashion

landscape.

The New

Rules of Makeup

in 2025

By Oma Damian

BEAUTY

Let’s be honest: makeup has changed a lot. The beauty industry has

evolved with time, and it’s time you do too! Gone are the days of heavy

contouring and cookie-cutter beauty standards. In 2025, the beauty

game is all about matching skin colour that looks like—well, skin. Whether

you’re a baddie or a “just a brow gel and vibes” kinda girl, these are the

new rules you’ll want to live by:

1. Skin First, Always

Forget heavy foundation — your skin is the

star. Lightweight bases, skin tints, and glowenhancing

primers are the new essentials. It’s

all about a natural, dewy finish that lets your

real skin breathe. Texture? Pores? Freckles?

Show them off.

In fact, Freckles started becoming a trend

on TikTok beauty in late 2024, and it has lived

on till this day.

2. Blush is Your Best Friend

Blush isn’t just back — it’s leading the

whole look. Creamy, colourful, and worn high

on the cheeks or across the nose, it brings

warmth, life, and instant energy to your face.

Think rosy, sun-kissed, or even a bit dramatic

— your cheeks, your rules.

3. Eyes That Speak Volumes

Say goodbye to boring lids. 2025 is all about

expressive eyes: floating liner, pastel shadows,

even gem accents. You don’t need to be a

makeup artist — just have fun with shapes and

colour.

Your lids are your canvas, now get to work!

4. Brows Go Natural

No more overly sculpted blocks. This year,

it’s all about fluffy, brushed-up brows that frame

your face without overpowering it. Use a brow

gel or soap for that lifted, airy finish. If you have

to add an eye pencil to your brows, make it less

noticeable. Don’t overdo it (seriously).

5. Confidence Is the Real Glow

This might sound cheesy, but hear me out —

the best makeup look is the one that makes you

feel like you. Whether that’s bare-faced beauty

or bold glam, own it. Confidence is your final

(and most potent) step.

Just be you, queen! Adjust that crown and go

about your day, you earned it

Street Style Spotlight:

Hot City,

Hot Looks:

Street Style Stars

Owning the Fashion

Scene

By Adewumi Victoria

There’s something electric about city style—raw,

unfiltered, and effortlessly cool. This season,

the streets have become the real runways, and

fashion’s boldest voices aren’t just found backstage

or in front rows—they’re right on the sidewalks,

redefining what it means to dress with attitude,

edge, and intention.

From Oversized shades, structured co-ords, statement

sneakers, breezy linen sets, head wraps, bold prints, and

accessories that could spark conversation from a mile

away—this is streetwear with soul and swagger.

Where Personal Style Meets Cultural Pride

What makes this moment even more iconic is how

fashion lovers are fusing global trends with local flair. In

Nigeria, for instance, the streets are sizzling with Ankara

two-pieces worn with Jordans, vintage sunglasses paired

with gele, and denim-on-denim looks reimagined through

Afrocentric silhouettes. It’s a perfect collision of heritage

and hype.

What defines today’s street style icons is their ability

to push boundaries without trying too hard. Think clean

monochrome outfits with a twist of neon, vintage corset tops
