• Paul Lemmon's paintings are based on the
disruption of digital videos taken from film, TV and
social media.
• He exploits the underlying structure of these files
to explore the shapeshifting qualities of the digital
world, foregrounding the illusory effects of ‘the
screen’ and its influence on our idea of truth and
the real world.
• Paul works primarily in oil paint and is interested
in reversing the process of digitisation by
transforming immaterial subjects from cyberspace
into physical paintings. There’s a sense of truth
about a painting, you can stand in front of it, it has
substance, gravity and presence. In that sense, he
aims to highlight the way in which the screen,
though powerfully magnetic, is really just a
performance - fleeting and transient - whereas a
painting is solid, persistent, reliable, and whose
grounding and edifying effect can be similar to that
of a walk in nature.
• Born in Birmingham and brought up in the
Midlands, Paul has worked as a professional
artist for nearly two decades and been featured
in shows and art fairs in London, across the UK
and Europe.
• In 2023 Paul completed a major public
commission for Coventry Biennial, in
collaboration with Warwick University, which
was displayed at The Herbert Art Gallery &
Museum in the centre of Coventry.
• This major work is currently available as the
complete collection of 4 panels. These can now
also be purchased individually .
• In 2025 his surrealist painting, 'And Takes Me
to My Dreaming' was featured among the work
of 29 newly commissioned artists as part of
'Surreal Solihull’
• Paul's paintings feature in private collections
around the world, including Dubai, New York,
Miami, Milan, Paris and Hong Kong
