Wardrobe By Me
The Artist Jacket is a relaxed workwear-inspired garment that has dropped
shoulders, a front button placket, large patch pockets, and a minimalistic
banded collar. The front and back gather to the yoke, and the sleeves are
cuffed to add style to this practical jacket. You can choose a straight or curved
hemline, or skip the pockets to turn this pattern into a shirt. The unlined body
and roomy silhouette make it a satisfying, slow-sew project. Sew it in mediumweight
woven fabrics like denim, twill, corduroy, canvas, flannel, or light wool to
make it the perfect piece to go between the seasons.
The Big Shirt Dress is such a versatile design that can be sewn as a shirt or
dress. It features a collar with a stand, dropped shoulders, voluminous sleeves
with gathered cuffs, a front button placket, side‐seam pockets, and a yoke with
gathers for added texture. The fit is intentionally relaxed and oversized, and the
perfect everyday garment.
These patterns come in sizes 30-54 (EU) and 0-24 (US). To view the full range

The Manon Boat Neck or Cowl Neck Tees is a classic semifitted
t-shirt pattern with two neckline options: boat neck or
draped cowl neck (sizes P and up only). Sew yours with either
a cap or three-quarter sleeves. It’s ideal to wear with trousers
and skirts.
The Pauline Open Fronted Blazer Cardigan is a beautiful,
unlined open-front cardigan with lapel collar and front patch
pockets designed for stable knit fabrics. Choose from
a hip-length or above-the-knee version, this clean closure-free
silhouette makes it an easy-to-sew and effortless
layering piece.
The Marina Tankini is a classic tankini. The V-neck top has a
clever built-in shelf bra designed to hold swim cups, offering
extra comfort and light support. The fully lined high-waist
briefs sit at the navel for just the right amount of coverage too.
SPORTY STYLES
For athletic types, the Viviane Athletic Tank and Dress
features a fitted bodice that can also be worn as a top with a
built-in shelf bra for light support and double straps that cross
at the back for a secure, comfortable fit. The skirt can be sewn
as mid-thigh or above-the-knee length, which flares out to
allow for movement without too much volume. This dress is
perfect for racket sports or as a sporty everyday staple.
The Justine Fitted Athletic Shorts has two inseam length
options and three waistband finishes (exposed elastic,
crossover waistband and high waistband), making them
exceptionally comfortable to wear. This pattern is ideal for
sports or to provide coverage underneath dresses.
The Odette Leotard is a lined sleeveless square-neck leotard.
Use add-ons and other patterns in Jalie’s mix n’ match
collection to transform the Odette into a dress, a unitard
or why not simply to replace the briefs with a style with
less coverage.
All of the above patterns come in 28 sizes: 2-13 and XS-2X.

The Revel Topper is a simple boxy top that’s the perfect
length to tuck into high-to-mid-rise bottoms. The shawl
collar and front yoke facing is a unique design. Make this
top slightly fitted at the bust and waist with angled bust
darts and shoulders that extend to become short sleeves
with deep facings. There’s also an option to make it a
little longer with a narrower cut-on sleeve finished and
a wide cuff that lands just above the elbow.
We love the additional poncho design with its
stylish bracelet-length sleeves. This version
is loose-fitting and doesn’t have darts. This
pattern comes in sizes 00-20 and 16-34.

LET’S TALK
Prym VARIO Creative Tool
This tool offers a range of functions
from punching holes, securing press
fasteners, eyelets and rivets. Julie
Bonnar looks into how to use it!
What is it?
The Prym Vario Creative Tool is a simple tool
that helps you attach Prym’s non sew fasteners,
like rivets, eyelets, press studs, and buttons. It’s
a handy alternative to using pliers, hammers,
or other special tools. Part of Prym’s ergonomic
range, it’s easy to use and makes it quick and
accurate to add fasteners to your projects with
little effort.
What’s in the box:
The Prym Vario Creative Tool comes with a softtouch
ergonomic handle that’s comfortable to use,
even for long periods. It has non-slip feet to keep
it steady while you work. There’s also an adjustable
screw under the handle, which lets you control how
much pressure is applied when pressing.
Inside the box, you’ll also find:
An instruction booklet
Tool sets for punching small holes in fabric (in four
sizes: 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, and 4mm)
A measuring bar guide that attaches to the side
of the tool to help keep your fabric and fasteners
evenly spaced.
What you will need to
accompany the Press:
Whatever you are attaching with the Prym Vario Creative
Tool, you’ll need tool sets – also called punching tools,
adapters, and setting dies. Each tool set is designed to
work with a matching box of accessories, like rivets, eyelets,
buttons, or snaps. All Prym accessories come with their own
specific tool set (combo pack) and include an illustrated stepby-step
guide to help you attach them correctly to
your project. Each tool set is colour-coded to match its
accessories – like press studs shown here are magenta –
making it easy to find the right parts.
Ways to use the Press:
1. Punching Holes
For most fasteners, you’ll need to make a hole in your fabric first.
To do this, use the small purple plastic pieces with prongs from the
tool set – they help secure the piercing tool in place on the upper
slot in the press. You need to choose the correct size piercing tool
for the fastener you have chosen and match the sizes for top and
bottom eg 4mm.
Here’s how it works:
With the handle in the upright position, place the pointed part of
the piercing tool on top and the hole shaped part on the purple
base plate. Lower the handle to mid-way and lay your fabric over it.
Press down on the handle and when you hear and feel a click,
the hole is made!
TIP:
If you’re unsure which
size to use, start with the
smallest (2.5mm). You
can always go larger,
but not smaller! Also,
use a pin to clear out
any fabric pieces that
get stuck in the tool.
2. Eyelets
Eyelets are available in sizes from 4mm to 14mm in diameter.
The larger sizes (11mm and 14mm) now come in a variety of
colours, making them great for adding a decorative touch to all
kinds of projects.
Fasteners like eyelets are attached in two simple steps: Punch
a hole in your fabric using the piercing tool. Use the correct
setting tool to fix the eyelet in place with the press.
There are handy videos from Prym on YouTube that demonstrate
what you need to do for most fasteners. To view how to install
eyelets – click here
3. Rivets
Start by punching a hole in your fabric, then use the correct
setting tool to attach the rivet using the press. Before pressing,
turn the adjustable screw up to reduce pressure - it helps avoid
flattening or damaging the rivet. Rivets are ideal for adding
strength and style to handmade jeans, securing pockets, and
attaching handbag straps. They’re available in a 9mm size
and come in a range of metal finishes to suit different looks
and projects.
Prym also offers tutorials for projects you can try with the
Vario Creative Tool. I especially like the one for making a
clutch bag! To find this on YouTube – click here
4. Snap fasteners/Press Studs
5. Jeans Buttons
There’s a wide variety of snap fasteners to suit different projects,
depending on how strong or durable you need them to be. Metal
Snaps (Jersey Fasteners) are heavy-duty and perfect for outerwear,
while Plastic Snaps (Coloured Snaps) are ideal for baby and kids’
clothes (these can be attached without punching a hole first). They
come in a range of colours and sizes - 9mm and 12.4mm - making
them both fun and practical.
You can use this tool to install jeans buttons in the same way as
snap fasteners. Just follow the same two-step process – punch
a hole and use the correct setting tool. Jeans buttons come in
14mm, 17mm, and 20mm sizes and are available in a variety
of metal finishes and decorative designs, including: Art Deco,
Laurel Leaf, Plain, American Star, Open Stars and Frosted Stars.
These are ideal for denim projects like jackets, skirts and jeans!
TIP:
No matter what type you’re installing - it’s important to reinforce your fabric from the wrong side with fusible interfacing. This added
layer helps to stabilise the fabric, making installation easier, prevent tearing or stretching, especially with frequent use and make
fasteners more secure and long-lasting, particularly on garments. It’s a simple step that makes a big difference in the durability and
finish of your project!
Extras:
Clamp
This tool sits on the table while you work, but you can also buy
a clamp to attach it securely to the table. This gives you extra
stability, and lets you use both hands to position your fabric and
line everything up perfectly!
Removing old snaps
These tools help you safely remove
old snaps without damaging your
fabric, so you can easily replace
them with new ones. For metal
snaps (like Jersey Fasteners), use
the Jersey Fastener Remover
Tool and for plastic coloured
snaps, use the Coloured Snap
Tool Set Remover.
Benefits of the Press:
Unlike pliers that can be hard to squeeze, the Prym Vario Creative
Tool has a soft-touch, ergonomic handle that’s comfortable to
press down with your palm. This makes it perfect for thicker
fabrics like denim or leather and much easier on your hands! The
press needs very little grip or strength, and it’s faster, easier, and
more accurate than other tools.
What’s really great is that the Vario Creative Tool works with
all Prym accessory ranges made for their pliers. So if you’re
upgrading, your existing accessories will still fit! Each tool set is
colour-coded to match its accessories—like rivets are green—
making it easy to find the right parts.
The press works well on garments and soft furnishings and can
punch through multiple layers of fabric cleanly. It’s perfect for
projects like belts, bags, and more!
The Prym Vario Creative Tool costs about £95. If you
often make outerwear, baby clothes, bags, belts, or
soft furnishings, it’s a great investment. It saves you
time and helps give your projects a professional,
polished finish.

MAKING THE
Bob Woven Pants by Style Arc
Perfect for all-year round!
Joana Hoffman, pattern tester and blogger @ joana.jogguli shares why she loves this
versatile wardrobe basic for every occasion
My pattern choice
The Bob Woven Pants pattern features a relaxed-fit pair
of trousers with cropped legs, an elastic waistband, and
discreet side seam pockets. The casual look, combined with
the straightforward construction, makes this pattern a perfect
everyday sewing project.
I chose this pattern because I love trousers that have a
straightforward style and are easy to wear. The Bob Pants pair
beautifully with T-shirts, sweaters, blouses and lightweight
knitwear. It’s a true wardrobe staple for all kinds of occasions.
The instructions are simple yet clear and easy to follow.
Anyone who has sewn a few garments before should have
no trouble completing this project; it comes together very
quickly. One big advantage is that there are very few pattern
pieces, which makes cutting and assembling these trousers
quick and manageable. Style Arc’s website also offers a stepby-step
photo and video tutorial that walks through each
sewing step in detail – especially helpful for those with less
sewing experience. To find it - click here.
I selected the size that matched my hip measurement
according to the chart, but the elastic waistband makes
adjustments easy! For one version, I lengthened the legs so I
could cuff them or wear them on cooler days. I’ve also sewn
this pattern in a smaller size when I wanted a slimmer fit.
My fabric choices
What’s great about this pattern is that I’ve sewn it in a variety
of fabrics. Medium-weight woven fabrics such as linen,
cotton, or chambray work particularly well. The fabric should
have enough structure to support the shape of the pants,
while still being soft enough to create a nice drape.
In addition, I’ve also sewn these using Lycra, jersey, and
French terry. For these variations, I omitted the pockets,
and for my sportier Lycra versions, I added an elastic band
at the hem.
Very thick or stiff fabrics are less suitable, as they tend to
interfere with the relaxed drape of the trousers and can add
unnecessary bulk at the waistband.
The Result
Because this pattern is quick and easy to sew, it makes
it a great one-day project. The elastic waistband gives a
comfortable fit without the need for complex alterations.
For beginners, I recommend starting with a slightly more
stable fabric that’s easy to handle, as it makes sewing the side
seam pockets more straightforward.
All in all, the Bob Pants are a stylish and uncomplicated
pattern with great potential for variation. From casual to
elegant, sporty to cosy – everything is possible. For me,
they’ve become an essential part of my wardrobe, and I’m
sure you will want to like me make them again!

From Season to Season
We asked the pattern experts to share their top tips on choosing patterns and fabrics
for the shift from Summer to Autumn
Soft Layering
As the season shifts, I love pieces that are perfect for layering
Coralie Bijasson, Patternmaker
– comfortable, stylish, and ideal for pairing with richer, more
textured fabrics.
Here are three of my favourite sewing patterns for
this time of year:
Ehola is a feminine, beginner-friendly T-shirt pattern with four
variations: ballet neckline or V-neck, short or long sleeves. It’s ideal
for beginners when sewn in a light to medium-weight jersey with at least 40%
stretch. Wear it on its own or layer it under a jacket – either way, it’s a wardrobe
essential for this time of year!
Ehola T-shirt
Nessa is our latest favourite! This cropped, button-up jacket has chest pockets
and customisable details like ribbed or elasticated finishes. Perfect for cooler
days, it pairs beautifully with heavier fabrics like jacquard, wool blends, or denim,
making it a go-to for chilly mornings and autumn layering.
Paloma is a wide-leg, high-waisted trouser (or culotte), designed
to elongate the silhouette with elegance. It works well with a variety
of mid-weight, drapey fabrics like viscose twill, Tencel, crepe or soft linen. Both
polished and casual, it’s been one of our sewists’ favourites since 2019.

Cannes Trousers
As summer waves goodbye and autumn starts to tiptoe in, you might
be wondering how to transition smoothly without an overhaul to your
wardrobe.
Mixing and matching summer and autumn footwear with seasonal
clothing and vice versa can give your wardrobe a fresh twist and extend
the life of your favourite summer pieces. Just because the calendar
says ‘Autumn” doesn’t mean your beloved summer sandals have to be
tucked away just yet! Pairing them with autumn staples can create a chic,
unexpected look:
Let your favourite strappy sandals peek out from under long trousers to
indicate that you’re moving toward cooler weather without ditching the
summer vibe. The contrast between the summery footwear and autumn
clothing creates a balanced and interesting outfit. I’ve been doing this
with my drapey viscose Blend Twill Cannes Trousers a lot lately, and I like
how it works.
Garibaldi Skirt
A blazer or jacket ensemble will transition smoothly from warm
afternoons to cooler evenings. Why not make it in a lovely floral fabric
to keep the summer vibes going, or go for a fleecy fabric for chillier days
and pair it with an autumn skirt? My Yanaka Jacket is perfect for this!
Why not try it the other way, and take a pair of boots and team up with a
summer dress, this can create a nice contrast. This combo is perfect for
those in-between days when the weather is unpredictable. Again, I do this
with my Gelato Dress or Garibaldi Skirt.
Yanaka Jacket
My tips for a smooth transition:
Layer wisely: Layering can help bridge the gap between seasons. Add a
light jacket or scarf to your outfit when wearing summer shoes with fall
clothing, or vice versa.
Colour contrast: Add dark accessories to light summer fabrics and
colours to give them an autumn vibe!
Consider the weather: Pay attention to the weather when pairing
summer shoes with fall clothes. On chillier days, you might need to layer
up or opt for autumn shoes to stay comfortable.

Garments that work
together perfectly
When the days start to shorten and there’s a chill in the air, it’s great to
have an adaptable wardrobe that changes with the seasons. Friday Pattern
Company has versatile patterns perfect for transitioning. Here are three of
our favourites:
The Pogonip Pullover is made for easy layering. Its relaxed fit and sport
collar style are perfect for outdoor adventures or cosy days, and it works
Ilford Jacket
great over a tee on those early autumn days. For warmer weather, sew it
up in a lightweight woven fabric like linen, brushed cotton or denim. In the
cooler months, make it in a soft fleece or quilted fabric for an extra snuggly
warm feel. The addition of the optional packable pocket means you can pop
it in your bag and have it on hand as the temperature changes.
The Ilford Jacket is the ultimate transitional wardrobe workhorse. It’s light
enough to wear as a top layer on sunny autumn afternoons, but roomy
enough to fit over sweaters. It’s endlessly customisable, with pocket options
and lengths to suit your style. For summer-into-autumn, try making it in midweight
fabrics like linen twill or cotton canvas with enough structure to hold
their shape but are still breathable. Find inspiration from the many versions
on the Friday blog as well as sewing hacks to create different styles. It’s a
classic throw on over any outfit.
And then there’s the Donny Shirt, our best-selling boxy, short-sleeved
Donny Shirt
wonder that pairs beautifully with both summer skirts and autumn trousers.
We have the long sleeve expansion pattern, so there are plenty of options
to make one that suits your needs and style. Wear the short-sleeved version
on its own in late summer or layered over a long-sleeved top when it’s chilly.
Then make a second with the long-sleeved version that will be great for
the cooler months. Reach for fabrics like cotton lawn for a breezy top, or a
brushed cotton or lightweight flannel for a cosy feel. The Donny Shirt works
in so many fabrics and prints – it’s been a go-to pattern for many sewists in
our community.
What we love most about our patterns is how seamlessly they work
together! The Donny peeking out from under a Pogonip and an Ilford
thrown over everything on a crisp autumn day is a picture of style and
comfort. They’re timeless, adaptable pieces that let you wear what you love
all year long through all of life’s transitions!

HALLOWEEN
cat mask
Make the purrfect Halloween mask for your little
ones using Art Gallery Fabrics’
Sweet ’n Spookier fabric collection
Materials:
¼yd of Fabric A (Stars Aligned Spooky)
Scraps of Fabric B (Burnt Orange Pure Solids Blender)
Scraps of Fabric C (Honey Pure Solids Blender)
Scraps of Fabric D (Caviar Pure Solids Blender)
Additonal materials:
3 sheets of 8½in x 11in of felt fabric
3/8in of elastic
Some double-sided fusible tape
How to sew:
Sew all right sides together with ¼in seam allowance.
Take your 27in x 2½in strip from fabric A and create a casing.
You can adjust the strip length to your liking. Fold the long strip
in half lengthwise, with the right sides together. Use a sewing
gauge to make sure your sewn tube will be 5/8in wide.
Now, attach a safety pin to one end of the tube and turn the
safety pin back to the inside of the tube. Push it until it comes
out to the other end. Your casing will now be right side out.
Cutting directions:
1 x template 1 from fabric A
1 x 27in x 2½in strip from fabric A for casing
2 x template 2 from fabric B
2 x template 3 from fabric C
2 x template 4 from fabric D
1 x template 1.1 from felt fabric

Cut the elastic and insert it into the tube, using the same safety
pin.
The length of the elastic depends on the size of your head and
could be anywhere from 12-15in
To find the best fit for you, just stretch a piece of elastic around
your head, from ear to ear (approximately).
Sew across each tube opening to secure the elastic in place.
Apply some double-sided fusible tape to template 1, template
2, template 3 and template 4.
Cut out your felt fabric using template 1.1. This template will
be much bigger than template 1. It will help you sew your piece
with enough space.
Take template 1 from fabric A and place it on top of the felt
cutout from template 1.1. Use template 1 as your guide to
position and center the mask with the felt fabric.
Take the elastic casing previously sewn and place the ends
below fabric A and on top of the felt fabric.
Move away again the elastic and pin it in an area of the mask
that’s comfortable for you finish your mask.
Take template 3 and 4 pieces and place them following the
diagram below.
Use your template 1 piece as your guide for placement.
Use your template as a guide on where to put the elastics.
Make sure the rest of the elastic is on top of fabric A. We only
need to sandwich the ends.
Pin all three pieces in place.
Press and then zigzag stitch all around your piece. For best
result, set up your zigzag stitch to a shorter length.
Topstitch the eye pieces and then with a small length stitch,
topstitch the inner eye area (shown as dotted area). Then with
a pair of small scissors, cut carefully the four layers of fabric
cutting close to the stitched area.
Now it’s ready for your little one to have fun!
Once you have top-stitched, take a small pair of scissors and
cut away the felt fabric at about 1/8in of distance.
Thanks to Art Gallery Fabrics for letting us reproduce
this sweet little project for Halloween. For more

Move away the elastic and pin it in an area of the mask that’s
comfortable for you to finish your mask and take template
2 pieces from fabric B and place them on the ear area. Use
template 1 as your position guide.
Zigzag stitch to hold your pieces.
TIP: The cat mask will fit adults so we have reduced
the size of the cat mask template by 20%. Measure the
distance between your child’s eyes and adjust accordingly.
