Dv8 Media Students - Eastbourne Youth Radio

Welcome to Dv8 Sussex where we have been

providing creative and digital education and

training for over 20 years! We specialise in the

creative industries and run vocational courses in

Creative Digital Media, Creative Music Industry

and Games Development at Levels 2 and 3. We

have an inclusive ethos with flexible entry points

which means that you can join Dv8 Sussex with a

range of different grades or educational

outcomes.

We are proud to be a Grade 2 ‘Good’ college

following our most recent Ofsted inspection who

noted that:

“Most young learners, including those who have

SEND, attend well and develop good vocational

knowledge, skills and behaviours which prepare

them well to work in the creative industries.”

In addition we have also achieved the ‘Matrix’

accreditation which is a national standard which

recognises that our Information, Advice and

Guidance to students at entry, on course and

exit, across both careers and pastoral support is

sound and high quality.

Outcomes for students were also excellent with

our highest pass rates last year across all

vocational courses with the most students in one

academic year progressing onto University from

Dv8 ever.

So it is a great time to join us - being a Dv8

Sussex student is unlike studying anywhere else.

With our small class sizes and industry focused

courses, students can apply themselves solely to

their creative interests and are given a lot of

creative freedom. All our courses are vocational

and practical, so this means that you will be

taught not only course content but also how you

can take that knowledge forward into a career

within your chosen industry.

Alongside your core course we will ensure that

you develop the skills you need to succeed in life

through a range of work experience

opportunities, employer encounters, personal

and social development sessions, social action

and fundraising projects, enrichment activities

and careers and tutorial support. Our students go

on to do amazing things – check out some of our

Alumni on page 3 and other students

destinations on page 17. We hope that you too

can be part of this journey from September 2026.

“My child has excelled at DV8! He

was a shell of himself at school after

years of being bullied because he

was different. I want to thank you for

allowing him to come to DV8 and

treating him as an individual.”

"STUDENTS DEVELOP VALUABLE ENGLISH

AND MATHEMATICS SKILLS ON THEIR

COURSE THAT HELP THEM WITH THEIR

STUDIES AND FUTURE GOALS..."

Dv8 Sussex - Last OFSTED Inspection

Confidence in Maths & English is vital to success, and they are at the

heart of everything we do in work and life. Embedded within each

level 2 course are sessions developing these essential skills and

demonstrating their relevance to everything in education and the

wider world.

The learner will be given the opportunity to study Maths and English

at Functional Skill or GCSE level, dependent on their prior attainment.

We aim for all students to achieve a minimum GCSE grade 4 or

Functional Skills level 2 equivalent during their time with us.

The extra lessons will be planned around the core course timetable

with an extra half day dedicated to each subject.

WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON

THE LINKS WE HAVE WITH

LOCAL EMPLOYERS AND

ORGANISATIONS WITHIN

THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES.

The experience of being a Dv8

student doesn’t just stop at the

classroom. We also offer a wide

range of opportunities outside of

your lessons, and support for life

after Dv8.

LEARNING SUPPORT

At DV8 we work with our students to find what support suits them. We offer a highly

personalised package of support which can include more than in class support. We aim to

develop our young people so they are ready for what adult life may bring.

We also offer support with studies, either in class or in structured support outside of the

classroom. Students can access some learning support regardless of their SEN status. We

are here to support learning for all!

TRIPS AND ENRICHMENT

To ensure you get the best experience possible, as part of your study programme at Dv8,

there will be events and activities which are not part of your qualification, but which may

broaden your understanding or knowledge of your vocational area or which may help

develop your personal and social skills. In recent years students have visited local

photographic exhibitions, film festivals, art house cinemas, museums, music studios and

record labels.

Students also carry out Social Action Projects which have included visits to Rock Farm to

do eco-therapy and conservation activities, a Brighton beach clean with Surfers against

Sewage and a sponsored walk to Brighton Marina to raise money local charities. There is

even a Halloween costume competition!

WORK EXPERIENCE

We are committed to ensuring that all our students take part in meaningful work

experience within the creative industries, as a key part of their study programme. This can

range from placement at employers’ premises, student enterprise projects, students

working to a design brief set by partner employers, or other types of employer encounters

in a range of settings. In the past, these have included organisations such as:

17

STUDENT VOICE

Your voice matters, and therefore we ensure that we take the time to listen to your

views in order to improve your experience. You will have the opportunity to take part

in meetings about your time with us, and to complete surveys and feedback forms.

We will then respond to these through our termly ‘You Said, We Did’

announcements.

MENTORING AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS

We like to inspire our students with real-life voices from the creative and digital

industries and have strong links with local industry partners who regularly visit the

college to give talks, workshops and masterclasses. They also work with us to

provide work experience opportunities through presenting the students with a real

life work task, challenge or project specification.

Organisations we have worked with include Silicon Brighton, Dab Apps, Brighton

Fringe, LookOut, Talent Accelerator, De La Warr Pavilion, The Great Escape, Fat

Tuesday, Hastings Un-convention, The Electric Cinema and the Lighthouse. Games

students have benefited from working with Creative Assembly, Hangar 13, EPIC,

Make Real, Unity, The Chinese Room, Mediatonic and NDreams. Students also gain

experience by participating in local festivals, conventions, and Game Jams, further

enhancing their skills and industry awareness.

Our Music students benefit from mentoring from our programme of Music

Ambassadors, who already have successful careers in the music industry and who

visit our learners to share advice, talk about their own career journey and support

students with the confidence and skills to take their next steps in their career.
