WELCOME

BACK!

IT’S BEEN MORE THAN FOUR WEEKS SINCE

OUR LAST HOME GAME AND DERBY COUNTY

WELCOMES ALL SUPPORTERS AND OUR

OPPONENTS PRESTON NORTH END TO PRIDE

PARK THIS AF TERNOON.

Today’s fixture, the 127th first team meeting between

the two clubs, means that the Rams will face a team

from the current top eight in the Championship for

the fifth time this season. Only pre-season promotion

favourites Ipswich Town are not in the top third of the

division after five games.

Preston were last at Pride Park in April when the Rams

continued the impressive resurgence under John

Eustace by beating the Lilywhites to claim a fourth

successive Championship win and climb out of the

relegation zone.

Derby flew out of the traps in the second half and Nat

Phillips set up two goals in four minutes for Craig

Forsyth and Jerry Yates to secure a 2-0 win.

Victory lifted the Rams up two places from 22nd to

20th, as the team leapfrogged Cardiff City and Hull

City to move a point clear of the drop zone with seven

games of last season remaining.

THE RAM

FROM THE HEAD COACH

JOHN EUSTACE

DERBY COUNTY’S HEAD COACH JOHN EUSTACE GIVES HIS

PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS AHEAD OF TODAY'S GAME.

After a busy start to the season, it is

a little bit surprising that it has been

a month since we were last in action

here at Pride Park. With that in mind,

it is certainly good to be back at home

once again this afternoon. Following no

home fixture since mid-August, three of

our next four matches in league action

are here on familiar territory and we’re

looking forward to stepping out in front

of our fantastic supporters on a regular

basis in the next few weeks.

As always at the start of the campaign,

there has been plenty going on. With

a new-look team gelling together, the

transfer window seeing both arrivals

and departures, the first rounds of

Championship fixtures, two Carabao

Cup matches and an international break,

it has been non-stop.

In terms of the squad, we are pleased

with the group we have assembled. We

recruited 13 players during the window,

and it was important for us to add more

quality in the group for us to progress

as a football club. As well as bringing

players in, we bid farewell to individuals

who have served Derby County well

in recent years, both on loan and on

permanent moves, and we wish them all

every success.

As I said before a ball was kicked this

season, we always knew it was going

to take time for everything to come

together on the pitch. With the number

of players that came in and moved on,

and with individuals at varying levels of

fitness and others returning from long

injury lay-offs, patience is always going

to be required across the board. What is

pleasing, though, is that we are seeing

signs that we are moving in the right

direction and there’s plenty to be excited

about moving forward with this squad.

We returned to action following the

international break with our second trip

of the season to face West Bromwich

Albion at The Hawthorns, having already

met in the Carabao Cup last month. We

knew going to a side which has flown

out of the traps this season was going

to be a challenge, but the lads produced

a solid, determined and hardworking

away performance to claim all three

points thanks to Andi Weimann’s

late goal. It was great for everyone

connected with the club to get the first

league win of the season on the board.

This afternoon we come up against a

Preston North End side which has made

a steady start to the campaign in the

Championship. Paul Heckingbottom

is an experienced manager at this

level and knows what it takes to be

successful. We know Preston will

provide us with a tough test and they’ll

be well organised and well coached, as

ever with the opponents we face.

Thank you for your support and enjoy

the game.

John Eustace

MATCH REPORT

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 0

DERBY COUNTY 1

SAT 13TH SEP 2025 – THE HAWTHORNS – ATTENDANCE: 25,596

The Rams claimed three Sky

Bet Championship points

for the first time this season

after a gritty performance

saw them secure a win 1-0

at The Hawthorns against

West Bromwich Albion last

weekend.

The hosts enjoyed more

possession, but neither side

were able to find the net

despite chances for Isaac

Price for West Brom and

debutant Ben Brereton Díaz

for Derby in the first half.

Substitute Andi Weimann

broke the deadlock in the

84th minute, netting his first

goal since re-joining the club

in the summer just minutes

after coming off the bench.

The Austrian international

took down a flick on from

fellow substitute Patrick

Agyemang, shimmied around

two defenders before firing

into the corner.

The win means the Rams

are now unbeaten in three

Championship matches,

following draws against

Bristol City and Ipswich

Town before the two-week

international break.

THE RAM

INTRODUCING PRESTON NORTH END, AKA:

THE LILYWHITES

FOLLOWING A SUMMER SQUAD OVERHAUL TO MATCH THE

MAGNITUDE OF DERBY’S, PRESTON NORTH END HAVE MADE AN

ENCOURAGING START TO THE 2025/26 CAMPAIGN…

Like the Rams, Preston

went into the final game

of last season with the

sword of relegation hanging

above their heads. And,

like Derby, a last-day draw

proved more than enough to

secure another crack at the

Championship.

For North End, a 2-2 draw at

play-off hopefuls Bristol City

ended the 2024/25 season.

Of course, as things turned

out, Luton Town’s heavy

defeat at West Bromwich

Albion that afternoon

rendered results at both

Ashton Gate and Pride Park

irrelevant.

Preston’s brush with the drop

was their first since coming

up more than a decade ago.

The Deepdale club are now

in their eleventh consecutive

campaign in the second tier

of English football and, while

never making the play-off

places during the previous

ten seasons, they hadn’t

finished below 14th before

last term.

Perhaps their first flirtation

with a return to League

One was the catalyst to the

trading the club undertook

during the close season.

In what was manager Paul

Heckingbottom’s first

summer in charge – he took

the reins in August last year

when previous boss Ryan

Lowe stepped down after

one game of the season –

Preston have brought in a

dozen new faces to their

first team squad.

The calibre of the recruits

looks impressive too, with

seven of the eight permanent

signings having experience

of the Championship and

the one player brought in

from overseas, full-back

Andrija Vukčević, is a full

international for Montenegro.

A further four players

arrived on seasonal loans,

and all came from Premier

League clubs. Two of them,

Lewis Dobbin and Harrison

Armstrong, are well known

to Pride Park regulars after

loan spells with the Rams in

recent seasons.

Most of the new arrivals

landed before the start of

the campaign and, judging

by results so far, the team

has gelled quickly. Preston

arrive in the East Midlands

today having lost only one

of the five Championship

games played so far, and

that despite them already

facing Premier League

relegated duo Leicester City

and Ipswich Town – beating

them both at Deepdale - as

well as early season leaders

Middlesbrough.

Their only defeat came

at Portsmouth before the

international break and,

having drawn at QPR on the

opening day of the season,

it does mean that the

Lilywhites are yet to win away

from home in league action.

Heckingbottom has been

without several players in

recent weeks and there will

likely be a late decision made

on whether to use striker

Milutin Osmajić, who has

been recovering from a rib

injury. Brad Potts, Jordan

Thompson, Robbie Brady and

Will Keane remain sidelined.

The The former

Denmark Under-21

goalkeeper completed

a permanent move to

Preston from Leicester

he was already familiar

with Deepdale. The

28-year-old had two

loan spells with North

End covering January

2021 to May 2022,

clocking up more than

70 appearances. He

only featured 17 times

during his seven years

with the Foxes but also

had loans to Oldham

The long-serving

eighth season with

Preston having joined

2018, though he did

spend a spell with

Sheffield Wednesday

on loan during the

2021/22 campaign.

Born in Somerset, the

28-year-old gained

early career experience

with several West

Country non-league

sides before earning

his move to Deepdale.

Scored against

Middlesbrough last

Saturday, only his

fourth goal for the club.

Like Storey, Gibson

arrived at Preston

from Devon, joining

from Plymouth

year. The 25-yearold

had started his

professional career

with Everton but

had only seen loan

action – most notably

with Bristol Rovers

– before his move to

Home Park in 2023.

He impressed in the

Championship for the

Pilgrims and attracted

a seven-figure fee

when heading to

Lancashire nine

months ago.

Another Preston

stalwart with well

over 250 league

appearances for the

club, the 33-year-old

full-back or central

defender was signed

from Peterborough

United in 2018. He

was part of hometown

Cardiff City’s

youth set-up but

made his senior bow

with Newport County,

helping the Welsh club

back into the EFL in

2013. He stepped up

to League One with

the Posh in 2016 and

enjoyed two seasons

at London Road.

preston north end legend:

SIR TOM FINNEY

THERE ARE LEGENDS… AND THEN THERE ARE LEGENDS!

SIR TOM FINNEY IS AN ALL-TIME GREAT IN PRESTON NORTH

END’S HISTORY, BUT THE WINGER IS ALSO ONE OF ENGLISH

FOOTBALL’S BEST-EVER PLAYERS. AND HE SPENT HIS ENTIRE

CAREER AT THE LANCASHIRE CLUB…

Born just over a century

ago a few hundred yards

from Deepdale, Finney

signed professionally for

his hometown club in 1940

just after World War Two

had started and, therefore,

with the Football League

suspended, he was called

up in 1942 and saw action in

North Africa and Italy.

So, by the time he made his

league debut for Preston,

almost six years had passed

by – but the diminutive

forward soon made up for

lost time. He quickly became

a first team regular in

Preston’s First Division side

and won a first call-up from

England in September 1946,

only four weeks after his

Football League debut.

Over the next 14 years he

helped his club finish as

runners-up to Arsenal in the

1952/53 Championship: the

Gunners winning their final

game to match Preston’s

20

points total and eclipse them

by 0.1 of a goal on the goal

average calculations. He also

played in 1954 FA Cup Final

when the Lilywhites lost 3-2

to West Bromwich Albion.

For England, Finney won

76 caps in an international

career that spanned 12 years

and included 51 victories.

His 30 England goals

made him the country’s top

scorer until Bobby Charlton

surpassed the mark in 1963.

Finney retired from

competitive football

in 1960 because of a

persistent groin injury. He

had played his entire career

for his local club, making

433 league appearances

and scoring 187 goals. At

the end of the 1960/61

season, the first after

Finney’s retirement, Preston

were relegated from the

First Division and have not

returned to the top-flight

since then.

The player remained close

to the club in the decades

after he hung up his boots

and was named as Preston

President. He was knighted

in the 1998 New Year

Honours list and died in

Preston on Valentine's Day

2014, aged 91.

A LEGEND'S

LEGACY…

It’s hard not to notice

the impact Sir Tom

Finney had on Preston,

both the club and the

town, and his name can

be seen in a multitude

of places.

There’s the Sir Tom

Finney Stand at North

End’s Deepdale home,

a ground that sits on

Sir Tom Finney Way.

Then there is the Sir

Tom Finney Soccer

Development Centre

which is a registered

children’s charity and

community soccer

project, and the Sir Tom

Finney Sports Centre at

the University of Central

Lancashire.

Add in several pubs that

take his name – or one

of his nicknames – and

even a catering

tram named

after the

great man

and you

know just

how proud

Preston is of

its most

famous son.

Mawéné signed for Derby for a fee of £500,000 and went on to play 55

2003/04 season, he was named the club’s Player of the Season to pick up

the Jack Stamps Trophy.

In the summer of 2004, at the end of his Pride Park contract, Mawéné

moved to Preston North End on a free transfer. He formed a strong

partnership with Chris Lucketti and his good form that year saw him

named Player of the Season at Deepdale.

In the 2005/06 season, he formed another good defensive partnership

with Claude Davis – who would later join Derby - as the Lilywhites reached

the play-offs for the second season in a row.

Mawéné tore cruciate and medial knee ligaments and missed the entire

2006/07 season but returned to give the Deepdale club three more years

of service before moving on to Greek side Panserraikos before finishing

his career back in Britain with Aberdeen and Fleetwood Town.

With a club career that spanned two decades and just short of 700 senior

appearances with eight different clubs, David Nugent was a 21st century

star of the EFL who also scored goals in the Premier League.

Preston took him into the Championship in 2004 when signing him from

Bury and, after scoring 17 goals in the 2006/07 campaign, he moved to

top-flight Portsmouth in a £6 million deal.

Before his move to the South Coast, Nugent became the first Preston

player to play for England since Sir Tom Finney 49 years previously, earning

his only cap as a goal scoring substitute against Andorra in March 2007.

It would be a decade later before the striker would sign for Derby after

spells with Pompey, Leicester City and Middlesbrough and in the two and

a half years he spent with the club his highlight was a hat-trick in a 4-2

home victory over Fulham in April 2017.

He moved back to Preston in July 2019 adding 25 games and one goal to

his Lilywhites’ tally before a loan spell at Tranmere Rovers ended his career.

He entered the action

from the bench to

make his third appearance

for Steve Clarke’s side in

their goalless clash away

to Denmark on Friday 5th

September, in their opening

2026 FIFA World Cup

qualifier, helping the side to

a valuable point.

Johnston then made his

first competitive start for

his country as Scotland

beat Belarus 2-0 on Monday

8th September to take his

international caps total up to

four, keeping a clean sheet

to mark the occasion with an

assured display.

A footballing family

background is part of the

young full-back’s foundation,

even being managed by his

father, Allan Johnston, in a

loan stint with Queen of the

South, he is also following

in his footsteps on the

international stage.

Johnston follows the

path forged by his father,

a midfielder who played

for the Tartan Army on

18 occasions in a 23-year

playing career that saw him

play for 11 clubs, including

Heart of Midlothian, Rennes,

Sunderland, Rangers and

Middlesbrough. His uncle,

Sammy, who recently

passed away at the age of

58, also played football in

Scotland and over 200 times

for St Johnstone.

Johnston began his career

with Motherwell and made

22 appearances for the

Scottish Premiership club,

while also gaining experience

out on loan with Queen of the

South in 2021/22 and then

Cove Rangers the following

season.

He left his childhood

club for pastures new in

summer 2023 when Austrian

Bundesliga side Sturm Graz

came calling.

And it proved to be a fruitful

move, with Johnston

developing his game while

winning back-to-back league

titles and the Austrian Cup

in 65 appearances over two

seasons with the club, as

well as regularly playing

European football.

This means he joined Head

Coach John Eustace’s squad

with plenty of potential and

experience to bring forth.

THE RAM

THE RAM

I’M HAPPY TO BE AT DERBY AND I

REALLY FEEL LIKE WE HAVE THE SQUAD

HERE THAT CAN GO AND ACHIEVE

SOMETHING SPECIAL.

Q: How are you settling into

life with the club, Max?

A: It has been great! I’m

happy to be at Derby County,

and we’ve managed to get

two decent results since I’ve

come into the team as well,

which always helps things. I’m

finding it really good here so

far, and I’m really enjoying it.

It was a difficult game to get

straight into against Ipswich,

I must admit. I hadn’t had

many training sessions with

the team, but, to be honest,

I wouldn’t have had it any

other way. I was just pleased

to get involved and play my

part in a great game and

a positive result against a

strong side.

Q: You’ve got a few more

training sessions under your

belt now. What do you make

of the squad you’ve joined?

A: You want to be around the

boys and settle in as quickly

as possible, so obviously

the international break didn’t

help with that! But once I’ve

got in here, everyone at the

club has made me feel at

home straight away, which

I’m very thankful for. I think

you can see that on the pitch

that I feel confident with

the boys, and it’s a great

changing room that we have

- I believe that will really help

us on the pitch.

I see a real competitiveness

about the squad, and the

intensity in training is

high, so you can tell that

something wants to be

achieved by everybody at

Derby County this season.

That is a club I’m more than

happy to be a part of, and I

want to contribute as much

as I can. You can see that

with the levels in training

on a daily basis and the

hard work that everyone

puts into the games that the

squad really want to achieve

something this year. I’ve got

full belief that we’ll do that.

Q: Managers and Head

Coaches are always

important parts of making

transfer decisions - how

does John Eustace compare

to other managers you’ve

had, and what have your

early impressions been

working under him?

A: My dad was my manager

at Queen of the South - so I

don’t want to stick him on it

too much with what I say! On

a serious note, the gaffer’s

been really good with me so

27

THE RAM

far, and the conversations we

had before I joined as well

were very positive. The main

part of my coming to Derby

County was that I felt like I

could learn under him. I can

improve as a player, and the

manager’s been really helpful

with that process, and it’s

something I’m looking to do

as a young player with so

much more development in

my game ahead of me.

Q: The team got their first

league win of the season at

The Hawthorns last weekend

with a late goal, too. Does

that show the character of

the group, to be able to pull

through in that way?

A: Definitely, you are always

going to get games like that

– where you have to work

for the result - it’s going to

happen at times in the season,

28

GROWING UP, I SAW MY DAD IN THE

SCOTLAND SET-UP, WHICH DEFINITELY

PUSHES ME TO WANT TO TRY AND GET MORE

CAPS THAN HIM!

as you’ve already seen. It’s

important that we show we

can stick together as a team;

we know when the whole

group comes together and we

really learn about each other,

how much we can dig in and

fight for those points.

Q: You made your first

competitive start for

Scotland over the recent

international window - that

must have been a good

moment for you?

A: It has been a proud few

weeks, and that is something

I’m very happy about. It’s

given me a lot of confidence.

Signing for Derby County

was something I wanted to

get done for a long time,

and it took a bit longer than

expected, as is normally

the case with transfers. We

got there in the end and to

make my competitive debut

with Scotland as well was

amazing.

Playing for my country has

always been a huge goal

of mine and a step that I’ve

wanted to take in my career

for a while now. Growing up,

I saw my dad in the Scotland

THE RAM

set-up, which definitely

pushes me to want to try and

get more caps than him!

Q: You mentioned your dad

there; your uncle also played,

too. How was it growing up

in a sporting family – is that

something that has helped

you as a player?

A: I’ve always said that

I’m very lucky and I’m very

grateful to have had the

upbringing that I had with

both my parents – and of

course with my dad playing

football and my uncle as well.

To be in a footballing family

from a young age was

really beneficial for me,

as you can imagine. It’s

definitely generated a bit of

a competition now! I’m sure

my dad told me when I signed

for Derby that he got in the

Championship Team of the

Season back in the day, so

that’s definitely a goal of mine!

Q: Another thing you have

in common with your dad

is that you’ve opted to play

abroad in your career. How

did you find your time in

Austria with Sturm Graz?

A: Going abroad and trying

a new culture, a new

experience at a young age,

was something I wanted to

do. I am really very grateful

for my time in Austria.

To win two leagues and a

cup in your career, a lot of

players don’t get to achieve

that, so I feel very lucky to

have done it by the age of

21. They are moments that

will stay with me forever, so

I’ll never forget them.

I had a really good two years,

and now I’m delighted to be

at Derby County - and I’m just

looking to kick on from those

experiences.

Q: You mention a new

challenge and coming

into the Championship,

two games into it now for

yourself, how are you finding

the level?

A: The Championship is

a really intense league.

Everyone knows that it’s a

tough league and every team

has very good qualities,

including ourselves. I’m

happy to be at Derby and I

really feel like we have the

squad here that can go and

achieve something special.

Q: How would you describe

your playing style on the

pitch, and who is your

footballing idol?

A: I’m a right-back who likes

to attack, but as a defender,

of course, my first job is to

defend. I feel that one of

my main strengths is to get

forward, join the attacks and

link up with my team-mates

and create some goalscoring

opportunities.

Probably the obvious answer

to my idol would be my dad

- but in terms of positionally

I’ve always admired Achraf

Hakimi from Paris Saint-

Germain, I like the way he

plays and gets a few goals

and assists!

THE RAM

IN THIS SEASON’S VOLUME OF THE RAM, WE ARE TURNING BACK THE

CLOCK THIRTY YEARS TO THE 1995/96 CAMPAIGN WHICH SAW JIM

SMITH’S DERBY SIDE EARN PROMOTION TO THE TOP-FLIGHT. IN EACH

EDITION, WE ARE DIGGING INTO THE DERBY TELEGRAPH ARCHIVES

TO RELIVE THE SEASON MATCH-BY-MATCH THROUGH THE REPORTS

PENNED BY LEGENDARY LOCAL CORRESPONDENT GERALD MORTIMER

IN OUR PROMOTION TRACKER FEATURE.

In a remarkable mirror of

the current season, it took

Jim Smith’s Derby County

team of 1995/96 five league

games to record a first win

of the season – after drawing

two and losing two of the

opening four matches.

Thirty years ago, that

start ultimately led to a

successful campaign,

although in September 1995

there was still a fair amount

of bedding in to get through

before the positive results

would start to flow…

MATCH 5

LUTON TOWN 1

DERBY COUNTY 2

Kenilworth Road, Saturday

2nd September 1995

Dean Sturridge’s two goals

gave Derby County exactly

what they needed at

Kenilworth Road, a first victory

of the season – but they

needed to recover from an

alarming start to achieve it.

Dwight Marshall put the

Hatters ahead after only 35

seconds, and the home side

could have been two up if

Bulgarian striker Bontcho

36

Guentchev had not missed

an absolute sitter seven

minutes into the encounter.

Given the team’s teething

troubles at the start of the

season, Gerald Mortimer

questioned whether the

Rams would have had the

fortitude to come back

from a two-goal deficit:

‘determination was already

necessary to cancel out one’

he wrote in his match report.

The Rams found that

resolve and went on to take

control of the first half with

Sturridge’s equaliser coming

as no surprise. The striker

scored from close range in

the 15th minute after Luton

failed to deal effectively with

Sean Flynn’s long throw into

the box.

John Harkes hit a post from

a tight angle just before the

interval, but the Rams lost

their way for a while at the

start of the second half as

the game continued to go in

phases of supremacy.

Sturridge’s second goal

after 63 minutes, with

Luton’s defence pulled apart,

restored Derby’s edge and

THE RAM

they had further chances –

including a chip against the

bar by Paul Simpson – to

make the game safe.

The fact they failed to add

to their tally added pressure

in the closing stages, and

Derby’s relief was obvious at

the final whistle.

Mortimer summarised: ‘They

had to give their season

some momentum and there

is inevitable anxiety until the

first victory is recorded.’

Derby County: Hoult,

Kavanagh, Nicholson,

Carsley, Webster, Powell

(Wassall, 46), van der Laan,

Sturridge, Flynn (Simpson,

64), Preece, Harkes. Sub not

used: Trollope.

MATCH 6

DERBY COUNTY 0

LEICESTER CITY 1

Baseball Ground, Sunday

10th September 1995

Having got their first win, the

Rams looked to add to it when

local rivals Leicester City

came to the Baseball Ground

for a Sunday afternoon match

shown live on ITV.

And, as Gerald Mortimer

pointed out in his match

analysis: ‘the odds stacked

themselves in Derby County’s

favour’ to do just that.

Awarded a penalty in the

second minute after Dean

Sturridge was brought down,

and playing against a Foxes

side reduced to ten men for

more than an hour after Iwan

Roberts was sent off, despite

those good odds Derby

contrived to lose and undo

the good work of the win at

Luton Town a week earlier.

With Paul Simpson on the

bench, John Harkes took the

responsibility of the early

spot-kick and, after checking

his run-up in a bid to send

Kevin Poole the wrong way,

the Leicester goalkeeper

outsmarted the American to

claw the ball away to safety.

Poole was not troubled again

by the limp Derby strike

force - even with Marco

Gabbiadini back in the side -

until late in the second half,

and that despite the 25th

minute red card for Roberts

after the Welsh striker was

caught elbowing Robin van

der Laan in the face.

Only eight minutes later

Leicester took the lead

through Julian Joachim’s

accurate cross-shot and

from that point on they pretty

much controlled the game.

The best chance to salvage

a draw fell to Sturridge who

was put through late on.

He could have steered a

shot past Poole; instead,

he rounded the goalkeeper,

stumbled and allowed Simon

Grayson to clear.

‘Leicester, with 11 men or

ten, were the better team,’

suggested Mortimer. ‘For

Derby, it remains hard to find

a thread. There is simply

no consistency, either from

game to game or within 90

minutes.’

Derby County: Hoult,

Kavanagh, Nicholson,

Carsley (Flynn, 64), Webster

(Preece, 64), Wassall,

van der Laan, Sturridge,

Gabbiadini, Powell, Harkes

Simpson, 46).

BURNLEY 2

DERBY COUNTY 1

TUE 26TH AUG 2025 – TURF MOOR STADIUM – ATTENDANCE: 7,019

Oliver Sonne scored a

stoppage-time winner as

Premier League newcomers

Burnley reached Round

Three of the Carabao Cup

with victory over Derby at

Turf Moor.

With a penalty shoot-out

looming, Sonne ran on to

Mike Tresor’s perfectly

weighted through ball before

guiding a low, left-footed

finish into the net via the

inside of the post.

The Clarets had made a

flying start on the night,

Aaron Ramsey giving them

a fourth-minute lead with

a well-placed effort from

Armando Broja’s pass.

But the Rams, who enjoyed

plenty of possession in

the first half, equalised 10

minutes before half-time when

RB Salzburg loanee Bobby

Clark finished off a fine move

with a composed finish from

Callum Elder's pass.

The Clarets had the better

chances after half-time,

though few could have

begrudged Derby a hardearned

penalty shoot-out

against their top-flight

opponents – but Sonne

broke Rams hearts.

DERBY COUNTY 2

SAT 30TH AUG 2025 – PORTMAN ROAD STADIUM – ATTENDANCE: 29,155

Jack Clarke scored a

dramatic stoppage-time

penalty to earn Ipswich Town

a 2-2 draw against the Rams

in the last game before the

international break.

Clarke struck in the 16th

minute of time added

on to deny Derby a first

Championship win of the

season.

The Rams had staged a

fightback of their own to

lead 2-1 after Carlton Morris’

penalty and Rhian Brewster’s

strike in the second half had

overturned Jacob Greaves’

first-half opener for Ipswich.

Brewster’s first goal for the

club was the pick of the

afternoon’s action when he

latched on to a loose ball,

burst through Ipswich’s

defence and slid the ball into

the far corner.

But just when it looked like

the Rams had negotiated the

excruciatingly lengthy period

of stoppage time, David

Ozoh was penalised for a

foul in the box on Sammie

Szmodics, giving Clarke the

chance to salvage a point for

the Tractor Boys.
