INTRODUCTION TO
HOUSES OF LIGHT
Neighbourhood Prayer Network, started in
2010, becoming a charity in 2012. It changed
its name on 3rd September 2025, to become
Houses of Light. In late 2024, we felt God was
speaking to us about fresh vision. One of our
foundational scriptures since the beginning
was Matthew 5:13-16. Jesus says we are the
‘Light of the World,’ and to let our light shine
so that people will see our ‘good deeds’
and praise our God the Father, in Heaven.
We feel God is leading us to be more ‘visible’
as Christians.
From 2010 until now, we have had the privilege of
hearing beautiful testimonies around the UK- there
have been reductions in crime, alcoholics stopping
drinking, our members discovering their neighbours on
the floor; allowing them to get much quicker medical
attention, than had they not known their neighbour.
There have been healings as people have prayed,
lonely people have found family in their neighbours
and there have been some who have come to know
Jesus because our members have PRAYED for, CARED
for and SHARED Jesus with their neighbour.
This is not a hit and run commitment- most of the
testimonies we have received have come in after a
few years of prayer. There are some cases where it has
happened more quickly, but we suspect this is in places
where a lot of prayer had already been taking place.
In this new season, while PRAYER will always be our
foundation, CARE for people will always be key to
who we are- there is a greater emphasis on the Great
Commission- we want to see many of our neighbours,
becoming disciples of Jesus.
Our vision is to see at least one House of Light on
every street in the UK. A House of Light is an individual
or household, who takes spiritual responsibility for the
street where they live.
Every week we share prayer suggestions, any
testimonies that have come in – through a weekly
e-newsletter on a Friday. While we would love our
members to pray every day, we recognise that all of us
have a lot of pulls on our time. We ask that all of us try
to pray for neighbours on a Friday. There is power in us
all praying on the same day, knowing we are joined by
literally hundreds, if not thousands on the same day.
A Mile with Jesus is our prayer walking strategy within
Houses of Light. We ask every Christian who has
signed up to become a House of Light on their street,
to prayer walk their street whenever you leave the
house. We also ask that you consider a longer prayer
walk or prayer drive around a mile from your home, at
least once a month. Once a year on the last Saturday
of September is our national ‘A Mile with Jesus’ prayer
walking day, where we ask you to get as many people
as you can, to prayer walk your local community.
Included in this guide is an updated version of the ‘A
Mile with Jesus’ prayer guide. We have also included
a ‘virtual Prayer Walking Guide’ as well. We recognise
that not all of us, due to disability or ill health are able
to walk their local street, so this allows you to do this
from your home.
We have a dedicated WhatsApp group for ‘A Mile
with Jesus’ where you can interact with others who
are passionate about prayer walking. Our WhatsApp
group is only open to members of Houses of Light
who have signed up to pray for their street. We do not
automatically add people to WhatsApp (as this is a
closed group). You would need to request to join once
a member. We take the privacy of our members very
seriously.

ORIGINS OF
‘A MILE WITH JESUS’

A Mile with Jesus co-ordinator,
Houses of Light.
In October 2015, after fourteen days of
fasting and prayer, God gave me the vision
of ‘A Mile With Jesus.’ In a dream, I ‘saw’
prayer chains springing up from different
places, electric sparks coming together and
forming a massive umbrella shape, with one
stick that all hands were holding onto. Then I
could see traces of fire/ lightening coming
from the roads and streets and returning
towards Heaven.
When I woke up from the ‘revelation’ I was lost in deep
thought of what I had just seen. I pondered over it
day and night. I continued praying and fasting, ending
my fast at the ‘National Day of Prayer’ conference
in Croydon, which I attended with the NPN team in
November 2015. On the last day of the conference,
I asked Pastor Jonathan Oloyede to pray for me. As he
laid his hand on me, all I could pray was “Lord I will go
a mile with you.” The Holy Spirit said to me, “not just
you, but as many that will go a mile with Him, He will
go with them, through the journey.”
I kept the vision within me after sharing it with my
husband. I had no peace,
I wrote the vision down, and all the planning of how
to go about it, as given in prayer. For three months, I
carried the burden in my mind.
In January 2016, Neighbourhood Prayer Network was
holding a special prayer meeting to ask God about
the year ahead. I couldn’t stop the prompt of the Holy
Spirit, to share the vision with Rebekah Brettle. She
told her husband Carl Brettle and they invited me for a
discussion. I was thrilled as they shared with me how
they wanted to take it National; it was exactly how the
Holy Spirit had given it to me. I just opened my mouth
speechless, as they talked with me about the vision.
Hence the journey of, ‘A MILE WITH JESUS’ begins…

A mile with Jesus is what you can make of it, since
the inception of this vision Christians across UK
have participated in prayer walking their streets and
communities as group or individuals. It is the power
of prayers of agreement, unity of purpose, oneness
that can reach Heaven and create unstoppable
waves of salvation, healing, provision, love, harmony,
breakthrough, deliverance and revival to our nation
and World. Thousands of miles have been prayer
walked and with tremendous testimony from people
who had taken part in previous prayer walks. Today we
encourage you to take spiritual responsibility over your
street and community as you prayer walk and magnify
Jesus on your street.

who have little experience of prayer walking.
It is meant to be used as a reference, rather
than to be read all at once.
This is a Houses of Light resource. Further

across. We have provided some prayer points for each
one. Some of you may be walking in more rural areas,
others in more residential areas, others around Towns
and Cities. There is something here for all of these. As
residential roads and streets may make up a significant
part of your walk, we have provided a special prayer
points for these at the beginning.
Part III: We have provided some inspirational scriptures
that you may want to pray over streets, or places, or to
aid you in prayer.
Part IV: Some churches may wish to use this as a
‘outreach’ opportunity. In this section, we hope you will
find inspiration and ideas.

GETTING STARTED
All of you will interpret the vision differently. The following is a suggestion only. For the
purposes of safety we recommend that you do this in twos and prayer walk in daylight hours.
Step 1: Decide whether you plan to do your prayer walk
on your own, with family or friends, with your prayer
group or as a whole church! Plan accordingly. Some
churches might want to map out their whole parish or
neighbourhood and get people to cover every street…
Step 2: Decide when you are going to do your prayer
walk and whether it is a one off or something you want
to repeat.
Step 3: Ask God what route you are going to take,
starting from your door step, your church or another
location. You might want to use a map, sat nav, a
pedometer, a car, to work out a full mile route.
Step 4: Visit the www.police.uk website and click on
‘Find Your Neighbourhood’ (at the top of the website),
add in your postcode and view crime statistics for the
streets you will be walking down.
Step 5: Prepare in prayer, before you go out. You may
want to use our ‘Prayer Walking Guide… A Mile with
Jesus’.
Step 7: When going out, (or for those house bound/
disabled), staying at home, start immediately in prayer,
asking Jesus to reveal how He sees the places you are
walking.
Step 8: If you come across anyone, pray for them
(either telling them or discreetly), pray a blessing on
them and for them to come to know Jesus.
Step 9: If you come across a Post Office, a church, a
hospital, a pub, a Police station, a Fire station, shops…
pray a blessing over them and as God leads you or use
our ‘A Mile With Jesus’ resource for inspiration.
Step 10: Listen to what God is saying as you walk…is He
leading you somewhere, speaking about something?
Is there someone in need you should help?
Step 11: Please contact us via www.housesoflight.net if
you have any testimony to share that might encourage
others. We always love to hear from you.
Step 12: Repeat…on another day?
Step 6: Make sure that you have warm clothes, water
proofs, access to a Bible or online version.

PREPARING YOURSELF
IN PRAYER
Read, the following scriptures
• Love God, (Mark 12:30)

Confession
Confess the times that you have failed to show love to
others.
Forgiveness
Forgive those whom you hold a grudge against, people
who have hurt you, past and present. If necessary,
phone someone or meet with them to apologise, if
you have done something wrong. Ask God to forgive
you for failing to show love to others or for not putting
Him first. Pray for those who are struggling to forgive
others where you are going to walk today!
Thanksgiving
Thank God for all He has done in your life, for the house
you live in, your income, your family, your friends and
that you know Him.
Putting on the armour of God
As Christians we need to be mindful that when we are
in a spiritual war when we pray. Ephesians 6:12 says “for
our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against
the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers
of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly realms.” (NIV)

like me. I believe that He died in my place and took
the consequences of my rebellion against You upon
Himself. I am amazed and so thankful that He suffered

I believe that Jesus came back to life to prove that He
had beaten sin and death itself and to give me new
life. Please make right my relationship with You. Send
me Your Holy Spirit and transform my life from within.

Father, we are inviting You afresh onto every road and
highway that leads to our villages, towns and cities and
the wider country. We pray that Your
glory will be seen in our society and that the country
turns to Jesus. Unite all Christians today to pray for
Your Kingdom to come.

Father as people go out onto streets to pray, break the
bondage of depression, anxiety, sickness, stress or the
work of the enemy, in the name of Jesus.
Lord Jesus, open the eyes of everyone on our roads
and highways to come to know You and be saved.
Lord Jesus, let many driving, riding bikes, praying at
home, walking, have an encounter with You today.

Jesus, let Your Spirit of love and compassion fill the
hearts of everyone as they journey along roads today.
Help us all to see our neighbours, other drivers on the
roads, through Your eyes. Bring love to all across our
nation.

PRAYING FOR
STREETS / ROADS
• Ask God what He is saying about a street. How does
He see it?
• Pray for anyone you see walking by. If you feel Jesus is
asking you, ask someone if they want prayer.
• Pray for the safety of all drivers, all cyclists and
pedestrians.
• Pray for all living on the street you are on, to come to
know Jesus.
• Pray for the blessing of God to come in abundance on
this street.
• For people to feel that there is a sense of community
on this street and for the lonely to find friendship and
love.
• For protection from anti-social behaviour, theft and
violence. For peace on our street.

TO PRAY FOR
The idea is pray for these places as you come across them. This intended as a reference guide.
Ambulance station
• For an increase in morale among paramedics who
often feel under resourced and under pressure.
• For the wise use of ambulances and a reduction in
demand for them.
• For all those needing ambulances to receive help as
fast as possible without any significant delays and for
healing!
Art galleries
• Thanksgiving for all artists and aspiring artists and
the work they do.
• For all who visit art galleries to develop an appreciation
for art and imagination.
• For people to see a revelation of who You are through
art and that all creativity comes from You!
Banks
• For the public to treat staff kindly and with respect.
• For protection from any future ‘crisis’ in banking.
• For the most vulnerable in society to be treated fairly

• Thank You for all the fun that people experience in
bowling alleys which are often enjoyed as a family
activity.
• For safety of all using the bowling alleys.
• For peace and harmony at time of great competition.
Bus station
• Thanksgiving for all bus drivers and a blessing over
their lives.
• For bus routes to serve those most in need and fares
to be at a price that allows all people to use them.
Betting Shops / gambling
• Protection for people drawn to betting shops from
addiction to betting, especially those who are most
in need of money.
• For owners of betting shops to act responsibly in how
they advertise.
• For those in financial difficulty to receive much
needed advice and support.
Café
• Thank You for the cafés and all places like it, as places
for people to meet.
• Help the café to become a place of community and
meeting for people and a place where some feel less
lonely.
• Bring blessing to the café and encounters with Jesus
in the café!
Car parks
• Protect all drivers on the roads as they drive home
today.
• Protect all vehicles from any damage.
• Reduce tempers where there is competition for
spaces.
Church / cathedral
• We praise You for this Christian church, for its location
in the community, all the people who worship here
and the outreach done in the past and present.
• We pray that the Gospel message is presented in a
powerful way and in a way that people understand.
• Bring growth to this church. Let people come here for
healing and may they encounter You. Let this church
be a true representation of what You are calling her
to be!
• For safety of all people using buses and protection
from any accidents.

Cemetery / crematorium
• Bring healing to everyone who has recently been
bereaved and for them to remember ‘good memories.’
• We pray for everyone visiting this place today, that
they will know Your presence.
• We pray for ministers/registrars performing services,
to be sensitive to the needs of those attending.
We thank You that many people hear the Gospel at
funerals.
Colleges (see University / schools)
Cinemas
• We thank You for the many cinemas that allow newer
churches to use their premises.
• We pray for the films shown here, to inspire, to
encourage and to promote a better world.
• We pray protection for young people attending
cinemas, protection from sexualised images and
violence.
Clubs
• We thank You for the work of Street Angels, Street
Pastors and similar organisations, working with the
night-time economy. (If your town/City does not have
these ministries, pray for them to be established).
• Pray for all drug dealing in the club to be prevented or
stopped and a reduction in dangerous drinking.
• Prevent violence, sexual assault, unwanted
pregnancies and any decisions young people may
regret.
Cyclists, cycle lanes and velodromes
• Thank You for cycle lanes and that so many areas
are now cyclist friendly and for our recent Olympic
success in cycling.
• We pray for all cyclists, especially younger cyclists
to wear helmets, protective clothing and be clearly
visible.
• We pray protection over all cyclists from road traffic
accidents.
Dance studio
• We pray for all those who attend dance classes. Help
those of all ages who are struggling to learn to dance,
to make progress.
• We pray for professional dancers. Give them stamina
for the performances they do. Bring reconciliation
when people fall out. Help those who are seeking
work. Be close to any who are injured and making
decisions about their future career.
Debt management centres
• Thank You for all debt management centres and the
people who genuinely are trying to help people in
debt.
• We pray for all who use their service to receive the
right advice and to be using the best service available
and to find a clear path out of debt.
• Let those who are feeling depressed and anxious, feel
Your presence, love and find hope in You!
Dentist
• Father, we pray for all those who need an NHS dentist
and struggle to find them. Help them to get timely
treatment and prevention of dental problems.
• Guide dentists and all those who work in the practice.
Help all dentists give the best treatment that they
can.
• Protect dentists from anxiety and depression and
from suicidal thoughts, (dentists have one of the
highest rates of suicide).
Factories
• We pray for the safety of all working here and fair
working conditions.
• We pray for high productivity, high profits and
protection from closure.
• Bless this factory with new orders and long term
prosperity.
Farm
• Thank You for all who farm our lands and provide
crops and food. Help them to feel appreciated.
• We pray a blessing on their harvest, for high crop
yields and high birth rates among animals.
• Help farmers struggling financially to find new
markets and for an increase in organic farming and
reduction in pesticides.
• We pray that people will make friends with others
they dance with.

Fields
• We pray for our bee population to increase, (there has
been a marked decline in bees the last few years).
• We pray for farming techniques to respect Creation.
• We pray for an excellent harvest.
Fire station
• Thanksgiving for our fire service and the men and
women who work here, risking their lives. Help
them to feel appreciation from the public and from
government.
• For a reduction in suicides (this is currently very high),
healing for post traumatic stress disorder and other
mental health problems and for any fire fighter who is
currently in pain or struggling, to find the courage to
seek help from his family, colleagues and friends so
they get the help they need.
• For stable working conditions, a reduction in serious
fires, good pay and conditions and protection from
harm when they respond to fires/ rescues every day
and for strength for families who send them to face
this.
Food bank
• Thank You for the generous donations to these and
for all the volunteers who work in them.
• For a reduction in the need for Food Banks, for benefit
changes to happen smoothly and incomes to rise for
families struggling.
• For those receiving food parcels and food aid, to
receive love and support from family, friends and
those in their community.
Football stadium (see stadiums)
Garden centres and public gardens /
horticulture
• Thank you for garden centres and the joy they bring
to so many.
• For public gardens to remain open to the public.
• For these places to be places where people feel safe
and a place where people can feel close to You.
Golf courses
• Thank you for golf courses and the enjoyment they
bring to so many, especially those who use them as a
‘stress relief’ from their work place.
• For golf courses to be places of harmony and peace
and relaxation.
• For friendships to flourish, especially for those who
find making and keeping friends difficult.
Government buildings: (See Town Halls)
GP surgery
• For all the staff, GPs, practice nurses, receptionists
to feel appreciated. For Health care workers to get
help when they experience ‘burn out’ or other mental
health problems and for a reduction in suicides.
• For waiting times to reduce, for a reduction in heart
conditions, respiratory conditions, diabetes, obesity,
depression and anxiety among patients.
• For enough resources, staff and time to meet
demand, for increase in morale and a feeling that the
public appreciate them and a reduction in negativity
and complaints.
Hair dressers
• We pray for all hair dressers, to enjoy their work and
establish regular customers.
• We pay for protection from low wages.
• We pray for opportunities for Christians to share their
faith with their hair dresser and to ‘gossip’ the Gospel.
Homeless shelter
• We thank you for all the homeless shelters, the
volunteers and those who fund shelters. Help all
homeless people experience love.
• For all the homeless people, for them to soon find
their own accommodation. For a reduction in the
number of homeless people and for protection from
harm while they remain homeless.
• For domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse,
mental health issues, relationship breakdown and all
the issues that contribute to homelessness to reduce.

Hospital
• We pray for all staff working in the hospitals and for
their working conditions to improve…time to eat,
time to have a break, time to go to the toilet and
for the volume of work they are experiencing to
decrease. For recruitment of more A and E staff, and
for less people to attend as emergencies.
• For all patients and visitors currently in the hospital.
For the right diagnosis and treatment for each patient.
For hospital chaplains as they minister to those in the
hospital.
• For wise allocation of resources, use of services and
for elderly people in particular to be treated with
dignity and respect and their problems dealt with,
avoiding the need for multiple admissions.
Houses
• Bless the house and all who live in it.
• Let all who live in the house have the opportunity to
come to know You.
• For protection from evil, crime and for all who dwell
there to know love.
Housing association
• Thank You for all those who work to provide affordable
accommodation often to those who need it most.
• Preserve enough housing for the need in the
community.
• Give wisdom to those involved in placing people with
serious problems.
Ice rinks
• Protect all who use them from broken bones.
• Thank You for the fun that people have in this place.
• Let this be a place where friendships are forged,
maintained and flourish.
Job centre / job clubs
• Bring encouragement to staff in job centres working
with difficult guidelines and protocols, which can
cause anxiety for those attending.
• Help all those genuinely seeking work to find a job
that fits their personality, skills and needs in terms of
finances and location.
Leisure centre
• Thank You for the location of this centre and that it is
a resource for the local community,
• Help more people to take advantage of fitness
programmes and swimming pools to improve their
health.
• Protect all who use these facilities, particularly
children, from those who might cause others harm.
Library
• Thank You for the library and the resource it is.
• For funding of our libraries to continue.
• For children to enjoy the ‘library experience,’ learning
to read and to appreciate many books both now and
in the future.
Museum, National Trust, historical interest
• Thank You for all who work here, for opportunities for
us to respect the past and to learn from it.
• We pray for the public to respect and appreciate
museums and places of heritage.
• For funding, for restoration, development,
improvement and innovation for the next generation.
Nurseries / daycare/ pre-school
• For the most disadvantaged children and children
who are developmentally behind to be catered for
and for them to ‘catch up’ to other children.
• For staff, often low paid, to feel appreciated for their
work and to feel safe in the work place.
• For children to be in a safe environment, to enjoy
learning and being with other children. For nursery to
be a place of joy and laughter.
Offices
• We pray for all businesses that practise integrity to
flourish.
• For business leaders and workers who sometimes
feel isolated, to find support and a network of support
within the business community.
• For businesses suffering from problems with debt or
needing to make redundancies, to find solutions to
their problems.
• Bring comfort and support to those who have been
informed that their benefits have been stopped. Let
Your peace reign over this place.

Parks
• Thanksgiving for parks and the spaces they provide
for children to play and for adults to enjoy them.
• Protection from any violent crime or sexual assault or
activities that should not take place in parks.
• For churches to hold events in parks that reach out to
the whole community.
Non-Christian places of worship
• Forgive us as a Christian community when we have
failed to extend our friendship to those of other faiths
and have contributed in anyway to discrimination or a
sense of isolation.
• Help all who attend this place of worship to associate
Christians with love.
• Help all who worship here to have the opportunity to
understand the Christian faith.
Police station
• Thank You for all police officers and all the staff who
support them.
• Heal officers who have seen road traffic accidents,
witnessed or heard about horrific crimes and are
struggling to deal with what they have seen.
• Help our police officers to be well resourced and able
to respond to any threats of terrorism in a timely and
responsible manner.
• Help relationships with all the public so that the public
have confidence to report crimes.
Post Office
• Thank You for all who deliver our post, from all
companies.

• For rivers, streams and waterways to be free of

• For people to consider the environment when

Refugee registration centre
• For hope for genuine asylum seekers that this is the
end of their journey.
• For asylum seekers to be treated with dignity and

• For the church to respond positively and with love

• For an increase in morale among teachers, for fair pay
and working conditions.
• For children to receive high quality teaching, that
they find enjoyable, which is inspirational and

OUTREACH SUGGESTIONS
FOR CHURCHES

This section is intended for those who want to take, ‘A
Mile with Jesus’ further and these outreach suggestions
are intended to be done as part of a church outreach.
Prepare a banquet/feast in your church
Matthew 22:1-14 Parable of the Wedding Banquet
1. Invite the homeless, people in job centres, people
from GP surgeries, and residential care homes, to a
meal in your church.
2. Ask local businesses to contribute food.
3. Enjoy the food, meet the people and read out the
story of the wedding banquet, explaining that it was
the inspiration for the meal.
4. Hand out prayer request cards at the end.

Homeless ministry

These activities are only suitable if done in twos please,
for safety reasons.
1. Go out prepared with warm coats, blankets, food,
and a list of local homeless shelters or places people
can get free meals.
2. Speak to homeless people.
3. Consider taking a homeless person out for a meal.
Sex workers / brothels / massage parlours
John 8:1-11
We advise that men do not take part in this activity
unless in the presence of women from your church and
that this is done as a group activity.
1. Take some red roses and give them out to
sex workers.
2. Give out prayer request cards, pray for them, if they
want prayer and tell them that they are welcome to
attend your church!
3. Prepare your church to receive people on the fringes
of society through teaching and discussion prior to
this outreach.
2. Invite them to a prayer service where you will pray
for them.
3. At this service put on food and get young people
to draw pictures about their work and have displays
with prayers for them.
4. Consider doing a first aid course in your church,
open to the general public, (Red Cross or St John
Ambulance).
5. Establish a longer term relationship with the police
and fire service, inviting them to give talks on the
issues they face.

Go the second mile
Matthew 5:38-42
‘You have heard that it was said, “Eye for eye, and tooth
for tooth.” But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If
anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the
other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and
take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone
forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.
Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away
from the one who wants to borrow from you.’
The context of going a second mile when someone
asked them to go one, was one where the Romans
would often force people to walk with them a mile.
How much more should we consider going the
extra mile, when Jesus asks us?

VIRTUAL PRAYER
WALKING GUIDE
This virtual Prayer Walking guide comes from
a prayer project called ‘London Prayer LOOP.’
London Prayer LOOP was a project running
between 2018 and 2025, encouraging
Christians to cover every section of the
London LOOP in prayer. The London LOOP
almost completely encircles London and is
approximately 150 miles long; if you were to
walk the whole circumference. It is split up
into 24 sections.
In 2019 when the pandemic hit, prayer walking
physically was no longer possible for many and in 2020
this virtual prayer walking guide was born.
In more recent years this guide has been used in other
prayer walking initiatives such as Thy Kingdom Come
Here and in Arise Sheffield.
We also recognise that many members of our
community are not able to physically walk their streets
and this guide allows every member to take part. We
include this as a separate, but companion guide in the
‘A Mile with Jesus’ resource, recognising that there is
some duplication and overlap.
An invitation
As you read our virtual prayer walking guide, the
Houses of Light Team, hope it inspires you to consider
virtual prayer walking and to share the idea with others
who may be interested.

Virtual Prayer Walking Guide
Remotely praying for somewhere from your home,
church or elsewhere.
In the past Christians have prayed in strategic ways for
places using their Bible, maps, local A-Z street guides,
walking books, photos, drawings and their memory.
Today with technology, there are online resources that
can help including Google Maps, Apple Maps, Google
Street View, Google Earth, online Bible resources etc.
We have the option of meeting virtually on Zoom,
Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WhatsApp or similar
platforms.
The advantage of virtual prayer walking is it can be
done by anyone anywhere in whatever situation they
are in. It can happen at any time of day or night. You
don’t have to travel to a place taking time and money
to do so. You will have facilities that you can use if you
need to. You can gather all the things that help you
pray and lay them out beforehand.
The need
There is so much to pray about. God is not distant.
We have the promise in Psalm 46:1 that “God is our
refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
He listens to our prayers. James 5:16 gives us the
encouragement and promise that “the prayer of a
righteous person is powerful and effective.” Whatever
is happening in the nation and nations we can seek God
for the people and places laid on our heart praying for
them. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is key. It says, “if my people
who are called by my name, will humble themselves
and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked
ways, then I will hear them from heaven, and I will
forgive their sin and heal their land.”(NIV)-
How to go about virtually prayer walking?
Step 1
Decide who is going to virtually prayer walk?

Step 2
If your virtual prayer walk is part of a church service or
prayer gathering, determine when it is happening and
how to do it.
Prepare as appropriate. If you are doing a virtual prayer
walk on Zoom, liaise with anyone else who is taking
part giving them the day, time and login details and
reminding them closer to the time.
Many people are now using Prayer Apps. If you choose
to use a physical map and share it with others, please
be careful about copyright and terms of use.
Step 3
Is there a particular focus, event or outreach you want
to pray about? Maybe do some research about the
area you are prayer walking and be open to God leading
you, even if it is not what you first thought. Here are
some areas of focus to think/pray about.

Use the A-Z of places in the ‘A Mile with Jesus’ guide,
for inspiration.
Different ways of covering the land in
prayer.
1. Draw a circle around the area you want to pray for.
It may be a village, town, or city. And divide it into
sections like cake slices. You can virtually prayer
walk the outside of the circle and pray into the heart
of that section.
2. Draw a fan over an area of land and pray into each
section of the fan.
3. Stand or sit or kneel then pray facing the North, East,
South, and West for a minute in each direction. This
can be done on your own or with others on an online
prayer call. You can pray out loud or be silent. You
may decide to lift your arms to praise God and exalt
him high over all. You may be led to worship. You
could intentionally pray for those who are weary
that God would help them win the battles they face
by symbolically holding up your arms. In Exodus
17:11-12 Aaron and Hur held up Moses arms, so that
the battle could be won.
Praying for those who outreach
You may like to virtually prayer walk places that you
know Christians go out to outreach to others in your
community including to the homeless, young people,
older people, those who have been out in pubs and
clubs and any ongoing or planned missional events.
Pray for any places laid on your heart that don’t yet
have outreach.
Step 5
As the virtual prayer walk gets closer commit the time
to God in prayer and anyone else who may be part of it.
You may like to fast for part of a day or a whole day if it
is safe for you to do so.
Some examples of fasting, please refer to guidance of
your own churches in this matter.
• Daniel fast -is no meat or choice foods… this is safer
for those with medical conditions.
• A timed no food fast (please seek medical advice if
any medical condition) essentially no food from 12am
until 6pm, with lots of water drunk during the day.
• A sugar free fast (so no cakes, chocolate or any sweet
products) – anyone can take part in this fast.
• Social media fast or even a screen fast – so no TV or
social media or gaming – this is safe for everyone and
some may argue in modern times, a huge challenge.
The key to fasting is that when you are tempted to
eat something or use screens, you instead turn to
God in prayer, focusing on Him instead. Often prayer
breakthroughs happen when fasting. Anyone with a
history of an eating disorder, we recommend you do
not take part in food fasting.
Take time to familiarise yourself with different online
resources to help you virtually prayer walk – Google
Maps, Apple Maps, Google Street View, Google Earth,
online Bible resources.
Step 6
Before the virtual prayer walk gather what you may
need to help you virtually prayer walk.
• Your Bible
• Worship books/You tube worship
• Paper, pen and pencil. You may like to do a virtual
prayer walking journal or file to keep a note of the
verses of scripture you may have used, the things
you prayed into and anything that you wanted to take
note of in response – a word, picture, idea, or action.
• A-Z of streets if appropriate or a prayer walking App.
• Newspaper articles or magazines – This can help
inform your prayers. Alternatively, you can note
things from online news (BBC, Guardian) or a
subscribed newspaper if you have one. Your local
newspaper may also have some news which is free
to view online.
• Art materials so that you can draw anything that you
are inspired to do as you virtually prayer walk. You
may like to do a collage sticking newspaper articles

and anything else that helps you pray. You could draw
a prayer map on paper or on a white sheet as you
virtually prayer walk noting the people, places and
things that are laid on your heart as you do. You can
add scriptures and prayers as part of this. This prayer
map could be revisited to use again. If on paper it
could be put in a prayer walking journal or file. If on a
white sheet it can be folded away for future times of
prayer.
• Video - video footage on a phone, computer, tv or
church screen to help you pray for a place. If sharing
with others, be mindful of copyright and safeguarding.
• Watch and pray - Watching programmes on walking
and praying about the things you see and what is
shared that moves your hearts. If on catch up, you
can pause and pray as you go.
• As you virtually prayer walk you may like to use a pen
or your finger to go along the route you have taken
if using a printed map, drawn map or an online map.
• Sometimes it is helpful to research the history of the
place you are virtually prayer walking.
Praying Together
Virtual and Physical Prayer Walking can happen at
the same time. You may be in contact with those
physically prayer walking by mobile, text, video, or
email. And/or you may gather with them afterwards
to share anything on your heart and they with you and
then praying together. Often God will delight to bless
this type of prayer walking with confirmations and
affirmations.
Whoever is leading the physical aspect of the walk,
remember to avoid recording children or any situation
which might be objectionable to others. The walk
should be sensitive to the community around it,
especially if there are a group of people linked to the
walk remotely by zoom as it is physically happening.
One safe way is to send/use a photo of a street or
place which you have taken ahead of time or on the
day which you ensure has no one in it If you use more
than one picture it could be like stepping, to help you
pray throughout the virtual walk to help people pray.
• As you prepare to do your virtual prayer walk it is
important to avoid distractions. Look for a place
where you are alone or less noisy so that you can
focus and concentrate.

Markers for prayer
Silence
Psalm 46:10 says, “be still and know God.” There may
be times when we fall silent before God. We are just
aware of God and worship him. Alternatively, we may
not know how to pray or what to pray so go silent as
we wait for the leading of the Holy Spirit. Other times
it may be because we are lamenting about something
or someone. We cannot find words. We may be moved
to tears.
Groaning
When we are silent before God we may find ourselves
groaning praying out the burdens in our hearts.
Romans 8:26 says “In the same way, the Spirit helps us
in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to
pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through
wordless groans.”(NIV)

Step 7
The Prayer Walk Itself
Before you virtually prayer walk spend some time
letting God search your heart. If there is anything you
need to say sorry to God about then do so. Have a
time of thanksgiving for all God has done for you. That
you know him. If you don’t know Jesus and want to
believe in him, you can say this prayer.
Dear God
Thank you for sending your Son to die for sinners just
like me. I believe that He died in my place and took
the consequences of my rebellion against You upon
Himself. I am amazed and so thankful that He suffered
the punishment I deserved, so that I don’t have to. I
am sorry for the wrong I have done and want to turn
from it.
I believe that Jesus came back to life to prove that He
had beaten sin and death itself and to give me new life.
Please make right my relationship with You. Send me
Your Holy Spirit and transform my life from within.
Amen
Putting on the armour of God
Take time to read through Ephesians 6:10-18 and put
on the armour of God as you feel led.
Authority
Our authority is in Jesus. It is in Jesus’ name we have
authority.
Be Watchful
The Bible invites us to watch and pray. It is so easy
to get distracted. Be honest and real with God about
these things and refocus. Don’t spend time feeling
bad about it. If there is anything that you need to ask
God’s forgiveness for that comes to mind then say
sorry to God. Take all anger, bitterness, and offence to
the cross. Give it to Jesus.
Worship
You may like to play some worship music and have a
time of praise before you begin virtual prayer walking
or at other times whilst you are praying. If you are a
musician, you may like to play your instrument. In
Psalm 98:4 it says, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the
earth, burst into jubilant song with music”(NIV)
Bible verses
There may be verses from the Bible that you want to
say at the start, end or during your virtual prayer walk.
We suggest that we all start with the Lord’s prayer
Matthew 6:9-14. Here are some others.
Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than
all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at
work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and
in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and
ever Amen.
Joel 2:28-29 Praying for the Holy Spirit

And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men
will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

Invite the Holy Spirit to come upon you and anoint
you with fresh oil for the day, as often saying that the
anointing of yesterday is not enough for today, ask
for the power of God to overcome you and make you
sensitive to the move of the Holy Spirit in the course
of the prayer.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 Praying for those in authority
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers,
intercession and thanksgiving be made for all peoplefor
Kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Repentance
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name, will humble
themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from
their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I
will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Jeremiah 29:7 Praying for the prosperity of
your street, village, town, city
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to
which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for
it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”(NIV)
Numbers 6:24-26 Blessing
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his
face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn
his face toward you and give you peace.” (NIV)
Luke 6:27-28 Blessing Enemies
“But to you who are listening; I say, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse
you, pray for those who mistreat you.”(NIV)
Sometimes we may want to lament. We feel a loss,
sorrow or regret and want to express this before God
as we pray. Lamenting is a common theme as we
read through the Bible. Lament can be personal or
communal. Lamenting is when we pour out our hearts
to God. This gives opportunity for us to encounter God.
Facing suffering and loss in a healthy way develops
character, prevents our hearts from becoming hard
and expands our ability to feel love and compassion
for others. Lamenting is about not hiding our feelings
from God but bringing those feelings to Him. It is an
act of faith and not of doubt.
A prayer for you as you virtually prayer walk.
As you virtually prayer walk may you know God with
you each step of the way. May God lead you and guide
you how to pray. In Jesus name. Amen
Step 8
After the virtual prayer walk
Are there things God has laid on your heart to do in
response to what you have prayed?
• A phone call
• An email
• A conversation face to face
• A visit
• Something your church can do to make a difference.
• A gift
• A letter
• A card
• Continuing to pray for a particular person, place, or
situation.
• Another virtual prayer walk
• Anything else laid on your heart.
Speak blessings over your neighbours, your street,
your community, the nation and anything else that is
laid on your heart.
Lamentations 3:21-24- Lament
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed
for his compassions never fail. They are new every
morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself,
“The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

Testimony from Lisa Hutt
My experience of virtual prayer walking has come
through leading the London Prayer LOOP and zoom
community 2018-2025.
In 2020, I received an email from ‘J… “As we have been
focusing our prayers very much on London with the
coronavirus, I have pictured your map of the London
Prayer LOOP and have been ‘virtually’ walking around
London!..” It was a lightbulb moment that opened our
eyes to the possibility of virtually prayer walking the
London LOOP. I recalled how on one section of the
London LOOP the previous year, some Christians had
not been able to prayer walk their whole section with
others, but had prayer walked a few hundred yards and
gathered at a spot to pray. I realised that the great joy
of virtual prayer walking was that anyone, anywhere,
of any age could take part and they could do the whole
of a section, not limited by their physical health and
even do the whole of the London Loop if they would
like to.
A zoom community grew up out of London Prayer
LOOP, increasing virtual prayer walking of the Loop.
Perhaps you might want to consider meeting over
Zoom, or WhatsApp or Teams to form a Beacon of
Light, which is 3 Christians meeting together once a
month physically and three times a month virtually, to
pray for the three streets where you live.
Always listen to what God is saying to you personally
and as a group- this is not a one size fits all.
The Houses of Light Team- Praying for you.
We pray that you abide in His love, that you hide under
the shadow of His wing (Psalm 91). We pray that you
will arise and shine where you live (Isaiah 60.1) that
you will light up your street with Jesus’ love. (Matthew
5:13-16). We pray that as Jesus is the vine and you are
the branches (John 15) that you will be carriers of His
presence, where-ever you go (Exodus 34:29). Amen
