Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is located near Etowah, a scant seven miles from
the heart of Hendersonville, North Carolina on Highway 64. Ashville and Brevard, North
Carolina are less than half an hour away. These three cities of the so called "Golden
Triangle" of North Carolina - Asheville, Hendersonville and Brevard - draw visitors from
all over to their hospitality and offer a North Carolina mountain home owner here a huge
array of experiences, each with their own distinct charm. Being in the center of these
lovely towns is a real plus for Cummings Cove residents, but what they have inside this
North Carolina gated community is what keeps people buying and staying here.
About 75% of the residents call Cummings Cove their full time home. Residents are warm

retirement home. The lower elevation at Cummings Cove, from 2,100 to 2,800 feet, also
makes for a more temperate, four season climate and year round golf play, plus, roads
that are easier to navigate.
The Sports Complex, by the main entry gate, has a fitness center, heated pool, hot tub,
tennis & pickleball courts, bocce ball, dog park & community garden. The other
amenities include a Robert Cupp golf course and practice facilities, and a Clubhouse, the
Social Center. The latter is a repurposed farmhouse, with six acres of meadow and a
pond, complete with distant mountain views. Its a popular place among residents for
inside or outside activities as well as for special events and the like.
There is a mandatory social membership required of all owners for the lifetime of
ownership at Cummings Cove. The approximately $120/month dues gives you use of the
clubhouse, bocce ball, tennis & pickleball courts, swimming pool & hot tub plus the
social clubs. No golf or fitness center use is included.

The mild Western North Carolina climate and the defined four seasons in Henderson
County allow for year-round outdoor activities at nearby attractions among the
beautiful mountains.
DuPont State Forest is the most visited state forest in North Carolina, with six
outstanding waterfalls and several lakes. The forest offers over 80 miles of trail, nearly
all of which is open to both equestrians and mountain bikers. It is also interesting to
note that the recent blockbuster hit The Hunger Games was filmed here.
Pisgah National Forest is a great place for those interested in camping, picnicking,
swimming, fishing, hunting, canoeing, rock climbing, rafting, tubing, and bird and
butterfly watching.
The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, one America's most visited parks, offers
many acres of forest, hiking trails, waterfalls, and a diversity of plant and animal life.
The Blue Ridge Parkway, "America's Favorite Drive" is filled with outstanding scenery
and recreational opportunities such as campgrounds, picnic areas, trails and lodges.
Chimney Rock Park, in Lake Lure, NC is located at a soaring elevation of 2,280 feet with
75-mile views.
The North Carolina Arboretum is a wonderful resource for education and conservation,

The Carl Sandburg National Historic Site offers a guided house tour, a dairy goat barn
and five miles of trails with over 500 species of vascular plants.

History of
Hendersonville
Hendersonville, North Carolina was founded in 1847 as the county seat of Henderson County. The city is named
after Leonard Henderson, a former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Founding
Location: The location of Hendersonville was controversial, with some wanting it along the French Broad River
and others wanting it along the Buncombe Turnpike.
Land donation: Judge Mitchell King donated 50 acres of land for the town.
Main Street: Main Street was designed to be 100 feet wide so that a team of horses and a wagon could turn
without backing up.
Growth
Henderson County: In 1838, Henderson County was split off from Buncombe County.
Apple growing: Hendersonville became a center for apple growing and is still one of the largest apple growing
regions in the country.
Notable events
First Baptist Church: The first church in the city limits was founded in 1844.
Sixth Avenue School: Opened in 1916 for Black American students.
Grey Hosiery Mill: Opened in 1915.
Balfour Mills: Opened in 1923, later renamed Berkeley Mills.
Hendersonville High School: Built in 1926.
Current City Hall: Built in 1928.
North Carolina Income Taxes
NorthCarolinamoved toa flat income tax beginning with tax year 2014. For tax
year 2024, all taxpayers pay a flat rate of 4.50%. That rate applies to taxable income,
which is income minus all qualifying deductions and exemptions, as well as any
contributions to a retirement plan like a 401(k) or an IRA.
In North Carolina, taxpayers can claim itemized deductions for charitable
contributions, mortgage interest and property taxes. The deductions for the latter
two categories cannot exceed $20,000. Most other deductions that were previously
available in North Carolina, including the Net Business Income deduction and the
College Savings Program deduction, are no longer available as of 2014.
Taxpayers who don’t itemize their deductions can claim North Carolina’s standard
deduction. The standard deduction for the 2024 tax year is $14,600 for single filers
and $29,200 for joint filers. However, there is no personal exemption in North
Carolina for filers, spouses or dependents. To file your federal tax return, you can
look into tax preparation software or hire a professional accountant.
North Carolina Sales Tax
Thebasesales tax inNorthCarolina is 4.75%. In addition to that statewide rate,
every county in North Carolina collects a separate sales tax, which ranges from 2%
to 2.75% in most counties. In sum, that means sales tax rates in North Carolina
range from 6.75% to 7.50%. Hendersonville Sales Tax is 7% at this time.

Garden Jubilee, oneof the largest gardeningshowsin
Western North Carolina, will be held on Saturday, May 24
and Sunday, May 25 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Memorial
Day weekend. With nearly 200 plant and craft vendors
lining Main Street, the Historic downtown will be
transformed into a garden wonderland.
Local and regional nurseries, orchards and crafters will
offer a wide variety of plants and handmade delights and
gardening experts will be on hand to share the latest
gardening tips and techniques.

Every 3rd Thurs

Rhythm &Brews Concert Seriesbrings together
live music, local craft beverages, and the
community! These FREE shows take place on the
third Thursday of every month from May-
September, closing part of South Main Street to
make room for all the fun. Local food trucks will line
the street cooking delicious eats from kettle corn to
pizza to barbecue. Each show begins with an opener
at 5:30 p.m. followed by the headlining performance

Lighting Ceremony kicks off the season in the
ultimate small-town fashion: the lighting of the
town Christmas tree! Enjoy live Christmas

treats, followed by a countdown to Santa’s
arrival, when he flips the switch at dusk and
lights up Main Street.
Get into the holiday spirit with carriage rides on Hendersonville’s
beautiful Main Street. Experience the twinkling Christmas lights
and decorations of downtown Hendersonville at the leisurely pace
of a horse-drawn carriage.
Carriage rides begin in front of the Historic Courthouse. They are
free on a first-come, first-serve basis. The rides are part of the Olde
Fashioned Christmas celebration by downtown merchants. Stores,
shops and boutiques stay open late and Ol’ St. Nick makes an
appearance.
Peppermint Bear takes you on a fun-filled bear hunt in
downtown Hendersonville in search of her lost cubs. Hint:
thecubs are hidingin downtown businesses.
Once you have found a lost cub in at least 12 of 28
participating businesses and the shopkeeper has punched
your brochure, you are eligible to win scavenger hunt prizes.
Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt brochures will be available
at the Hendersonville Welcome Center, located at 201 South
Main Street, starting Nov. 24.
Hendersonville’s Night-time Christmas Parade
Hendersonville’s Christmas Parade is a must-see
holiday experience, a ribbon of festive floats and
marching bands illuminating Main Street. Local
businesses and organizations get into the holiday spirit
as they try to out-do each other with creatively
decorated and lighted vehicles and floats.
The event, hosted by the Hendersonville Merchants and
Business Association, is capped by an appearance by the
big man in red himself, Santa Claus.
