October, where did the year go?

Elections are in November, with new club officers

installed in December. Speaking of December, the club

Christmas party is on December 5 th at the Belmont

Country Club. I hope everyone can attend. It is always

a fun filled evening.

There are a number of club events and runs coming up.

They are all listed in the newsletter.

There are sign-up sheets for each event at the club

meetings.

The run guidelines committee have completed the updates

of the document, and it has been approved by the CVC

board.

Since the fire at Yosemite Falls Café, and their

closure for repairs, we have moved to Marie Callanders

restaurant for our club meetings. The address is 1781

E. Shaw Ave, Fresno

We now meet at 6:00 PM because the restaurant closes at

8:00 PM. That will give us enough time to have our

meeting.

Hopefully we will move back to Club One Casino in

December.

Whatever life throws at us, we will adapt and move

forward. Long live the CVC!

We sure have a great group of friends among the members

of our club. Travelling, sightseeing, or simply

spending time together is enjoyable. It is some of the

best things to look forward to.

Hang in there people, this too shall pass! Maybe not as

quickly as we’d like, but we’re a resilient group.

We’ll make the best of meeting in tighter quarters. I’m

thankful we have a place to meet and the food is good.

Thank you Julie for thinking of it and Glenn for

setting it in motion!

Several events are coming up as the holiday season

approaches. Be sure to check out the Activities Page so

you don’t miss out. Get the Halloween Party and

Christmas Party paid for and don’t forget about

renewing your CVC membership.

We once again welcomed pending members Leslie Garlock-

Tonozzi and Bernie Duree at our September meeting. They

have now met their eligibility requirements. We will

cast our ballots for them at our October general

Are you thinking about putting on a run?

Possibly for the first time or maybe you need a

little help putting your thoughts ‘to the

road’. Please reach out to me or to anyone on

the board and we will be more than happy to

team up with you. If you need a co-run leader

or if you may be a less experienced member and

you don’t know where to start ….. please just

ask.

Also, remember to come with your run ideas and

thoughts and let’s put the dates on the 2026

calendar to avoid any conflicts with other

possible runs or events.

SEPTEMBER

SUNSHINE &

CLOUDS

By Debbie Garrison

Bobby Peluso returned Wednesday October 10 th from the

32 nd Veterans Honor Flight, from DC. Seventy-three

Veterans and their Guardians made the flight. They were

greeted by over three hundred people among those

fourteen members of Central Valley Corvettes. We were

enormously proud to be part of those in attendance.

Dale and Sue Comer have purchased a new red C8

corvette, looking forward to seeing them and their

beautiful car.

Dennis Ward was admitted to the hospital this week and

has pneumonia. He is still recovering from his heart

surgery and has had some challenges with his recovery

between medication issues and lack of appetite.

Mike Henenfent fell at home; went to the ER the next

morning. After ten hours they found his femur was broken

up close to the hip bone. They did surgery and put in a

rod unfortunately Mike developed pneumonia and was put

on antibiotics and oxygen. Within a couple of days, he

had to have another surgery to put in a feeding tube.

He is receiving the nutrients he needs and is getting

stronger. He was moved to The Terraces Rehab and is now

getting stronger and doing PT and walking with a walker.

Tom Piercy was back in the hospital with an infection

and received antibiotics. Tom and Emily have had a

difficult journey, after recovering from heart surgery

and his recent bout of pneumonia.

Sunshine & Clouds, - page 2

Harlan had his hip replacement surgery and is doing

well, has started Physical Therapy. He and Brenda were

able to join us for Bob’s Homecoming.

Cece received good news; her cancer markers are back

to normal. She will still need to watch her high

calcium count, her low red cells, low potassium and

low parathyroid. She has another appointment coming

up, we pray for more good news. John’s kidney function

has returned to normal after his recent bout with

kidney stones. So, overall, the Karlie’s have much to

be thankful for this month.

Our condolences go out to the Louie Avila Family.

Louie lost his Mother this past month, she would have

been Ninety-two in this November.

Please keep our Members that are experiencing health

issues in your thoughts and prayers.

Also, Dale & Sue Comer sold their ’57 Corvette and

purchased a 2023 C8 in Red Mist. I’m sure they are

sad to see that little classic go but I know they will

have lots of fun in the new one.

EAA DINNER/MOVIE

SATURDAY, 9/13/25

Several of us met for a burger at Triangle Drive-In

including prospective members Leslie Garlock and

Bernie Duree.

The movie hosted by EAA Chapter 376 Flying Group at

the Bill Tjerrild Aviation Center and Bill Smilie

Museum was ‘Two-Lane Blacktop’. The movie was a B

Movie perhaps even a C Movie if there is such a

thing.

The movie starred James Taylor and Dennis Wilson, and

it was a good thing they both kept their day jobs as

singers. The movie was about two friends that live to

race their 1955 Chevy as they travel East across the

states. Along the way they pick up a girl that causes

some jealousy between the two friends. They also make

the acquaintance with a GTO driver played by Warren

Oates who had a different story for every hitchhiker

he picked up. The drivers decide to race for Pinks

for the first car that reaches DC and the adventures

they have on the way.

There will be No Movie event in October as the EAA

Chapter 376 hosts the End O’ Summer Fly-In and Car

Show on October 11, 2025. Free to the Public and

starts at 8 AM. Entry Fee is only $10.00 to show a

car, truck, motorcycle, boat or plane and includes

one free Pancake Breakfast. See the Flyer elsewhere

in this Newsletter.

Thank you to Diane Tjerrild and the EAA Flying Group

for inviting us. We enjoyed the fellowship of the

Flying Group and the Mustang Club as we watched the

movie and munched on popcorn and desserts brought by

the groups.

The Silver State Classic Challenge

is known as an Open Road Race

Open road racing is simply a rally race where you attempt

to achieve a perfect time over the course distance at a

predetermined (high) speed. So if the course is 90 miles

long and your target speed is 120 mph, you are attempting

to cover the distance in EXACTLY 45 minutes. Sounds easy

enough. It is not and since I started participating, it

has become extremely competitive. Example, I finished

fourth in the 120 mph bracket on September 21st at the race

in Nevada. I was 1.1 second slow over the 90

miles. Methods to achieve the task vary widely from

handheld stopwatches to computer measured wheel

revolutions. All open road racing events are conducted in

accordance with strict safeguards and rules. All cars must

pass inspection and be certified to race. That said I

have participated in numerous races and never have I been

prohibited from racing because of an issue with my car.

Strict adherence to these rules make these events very safe

and a whole lot of fun.

The CVC sent 4 cars to the Silver State Classic event the

third weekend in September. Gary Linsner and Mike Lebda,

Jimmy Webb running solo, Josh Bowling and Arlen Blanca, and

Gunner Webb and Justin Berry. Gunner and Justin competed

in a Subura WRX and the rest in Corvette C8’s. Mike and

Gary competed in 120 mph bracket and the others in the 110

mph bracket. All three cars in the 110 bracket finished

with times under a second slow and Mike and Gary finished

at 1.1 second slow.

Jimmy’s car won the “Hooker’s Choice Award” on Friday night

and he can explained that competition at the next general

meeting.

The Silver State Classic is held the third Sunday in May

and the third Sunday in September. The State of Nevada

closes Highway 318 between Lund and Hiko for us to race

on. The speed brackets start at 95 mph going up to 180 mph

plus. The high speed record was set in May 2017 at 219.64

mph.

BLUES & ROOTS FESTIVAL

9/20/25

The Gateway Inn Run 9/27/25

We started punctually at our meeting place, ended up

with five Corvettes. It was a nice drive to three

rivers. The Gateway inn had reserved corvette

parking in the front. We ate lunch outside listening

to the creek flowing.

After lunch we heading Reimers for ice cream. After

ice cream we took the back roads through the corn

fields and ended up on 180.

It was a good relaxing day for all!

Many of us have directly known

someone who has been affected

by breast cancer and the

struggle is heartbreaking.

I actually never knew that most

women are diagnosed with it

until their 70’s. Since we are

past or near that magical age,

please be aware of your risks

and make sure to be screened

today.
