Two-candidate race slows early voting
BY KEES CHALMERS
A two-horse race for the Banks
Peninsula city council seat is
being cited as a reason for the
dip in voter turnout.
Of the 7613 eligible voters in
the ward, 27.09% (2062) had
cast their ballots as of Tuesday.
At the same point in the 2022
local body elections, 29.35%
(2235) had voted. By the end
of that election, turnout in the
ward reached
60.32% (4594).
The polls
close at noon on
Saturday, October
11.
Incumbent
city councillor
Tyrone Fields
and challenger Tyrone Fields
Dave Dunlay both
attributed the turnout to having
only two candidates contesting
the seat, compared with seven
in 2022.
Dunlay also put the decrease
down to potential voters
not feeling heard by the city
council.
“I’ve heard at all the different
community meetings and
different groups that I’ve met is
that there is a frustration with
council not listening and I think
part of that frustration may be
reflected in the slightly lower
voter turnout.
“If I am elected,
I reckon that’s
something that
I’m really going
to love – just
getting out there
and sort of trying
to engage with
community Dave Dunlay
groups,” he said.
Fields pointed to the new
ballot collection methods, with
bins now being used alongside
postal voting.
“There’s a natural lag that’s
going to occur there,” he said.
Fields rejected Dunlay’s
suggestion that the city council
is not listening to residents.
“I’ve worked very hard in my
ward and spoken to thousands
of people and the feedback I get
is really positive.”
Fighting sickness and injury,
Ferrymead Bays’ under 11s
took home the Jack McKnight
Cup for winning the 11th grade
South Island competition in
Nelson last week.
The team was hit hard by
absences in the lead-up to the
tournament, with just nine
players available.
It meant the team had no
subs, with all players having
to play every minute of every
game.
But they topped their pool,
winning four of five games,
before beating Burwood Toa
on penalties in the semi-final
and Christchurch United
Blue 2-0 in the final at
Saxton Fields.
“Their commitment,
discipline, and maturity on and
off the pitch were outstanding,”
said coach Darren Cook.
“It was fantastic to
see how they carried
themselves throughout
the tournament.”
New restrictions limit trips
to view Hector’s dolphins
The number of trips to view and
swim with Hector’s dolphins in
Akaroa Harbour have been cut to
protect the species.
The Department of Conservation
has imposed the new limits
which will allow up to 20 trips
a day across all operators over
the busiest summer
months and
no more than 12
trips a day for
six months of the
year.
DOC operations
manager Andy
Thompson said the
limits would not
significantly affect
operators’ recent
activity levels.
Andy
Thompson
“This provides room for operators
to increase activity to levels
just below pre-Covid peaks.
“For example, in 2019/2020
there were only 10-15 days during
peak season where operators
collectively exceeded the new
20-trip limit,” he said.
But Black Cat Cruises chief
executive Paul Milligan said the
new restrictions will impact his
business.
“It’s going to limit the ability
for us to grow from here. We’ve
had a reduction of around 50%
of our swimming with dolphins
trips moving forward,” he said.
The Department of Conservation has imposed a limit of 20 trips a day on tourism
operators in an effort to protect endangered Hector’s dolphins.
Milligan agreed the Hector's
dolphin needs protecting.
“We understand DOC’s desire
to reduce the impact on Hector's
dolphins. The dolphins are very
special creatures, they’re as special
to New Zealand as the Kiwi.”
Research has shown vessel
activity can disturb the dolphins’
behaviour.
The research that informed
the decision was carried out
over the past few years using
an underwater acoustic device
to monitor dolphin activity
alongside vessel movements at
a dolphin hotspot and popular
viewing area in Akaroa Harbour.
With the harbour popular for
boating, Milligan said it is not
the tourist boats that are the
problem.
“Vessels come in different
shapes and sizes and forms,
and the permitted
operators that
are operating out
on the harbour
are generally the
ones who are following
the rules,
they’ve got qualified
skippers and
understand the
regulations,” he
said.
“There are other
Paul
Milligan
forms of vehicle traffic which are
having far greater impacts on
these dolphins.”
Milligan said the fishing industry
is “known to catch these
dolphins”, and on a summer's
day there are “a couple of hundred”
recreational vessels in the
Akaroa harbour, with unlicensed
skippers and no way to “educate
or control” their behaviour.
Milligan said without being
able to control where vessels
go on the harbour, it would be
hard to remove any impact on
the dolphins.
Vegetation fire
A vegetation fire in Diamond
at an Airbnb on Te Ara Cres
noticed smoke in the garden
and called out the Little River
Volunteer Fire Brigade at 7.53pm.
Fire chief Frank Watson said the
blaze was caused by a previous
guest putting out ashes in the
garden and could have easily
spread to nearby structures if
it had not been extinguished.
Watson said ashes remain a
source of ignition for multiple
days and need to be kept in
a metal container or properly
soaked before disposal.
Team Phil and team Sara: The people
It takes a village to run
a mayoral campaign.
Who manages the teams
behind the two leading
candidates? Dylan Smits
finds out
Phil Mauger
Mayor Phil Mauger has hired PR
expert Erin Jamieson to be his
campaign manager for the third
time following his successful bids
to be mayor in 2022 and Burwood
Ward city councillor in 2019.
Jamieson, who lives in Lyttelton,
is an award-winning partner
at leading public relations firm
Convergence.
She first stepped into the
Christchurch political scene in
2007 on Sir Bob Parker’s mayoral
campaign team and became
a campaign manager for his reelection
bid in 2010.
“It’s really rewarding when
I can help really good people
and clever people being elected
who are going to make a big difference
in local government or
central government roles,” Jamieson
said.
She first met Parker while she
was Lyttelton Port Company communications
manager and he was
Banks Peninsula mayor.
Jamieson co-founded Convergence
with her business partner
Leigh Harris in 2001 and has
gone on to work with many highprofile
clients.
Mayor Phil Mauger with his campaign manager Erin Jamieson at the 2023 Public
Relations Institute of New Zealand awards. She won three awards for her work on
Mauger’s successful 2022 campaign for the mayoralty.
Her crisis communications
work in the aftermath of the
2010 Pike River Mine disaster
and efforts on behalf of the Student
Volunteer Army after the
earthquakes stand out as career
highlights.
Jamieson graduated from
Canberra University with a
Bachelor of Communications.
She later received a
postgraduate diploma in
business administration from
Massey University.
After spending her early 20s
travelling, she met her husband
Dave Dunlay in Israel. After
more moves to the UK, New Zealand,
and back to Australia, they
settled in Lyttelton in 1997.
Dunlay is standing in the local
body elections for Banks Peninsula
Ward. While Jamieson is
providing some support, she is
not his campaign manager.
Since working with Parker,
Jamieson has become a go-to
person for various national and
local election candidates who
she prefers not to name.
Knowing Jamieson’s reputation
as an experienced
campaign manager, Mauger
asked her to work with him on
his Burwood Ward campaign.
“Immediately I really liked
Phil and that’s important for
me. I’ve got to work with candidates
who are likeable and
have a good chance of winning.
I’m really honest about that sort
of feedback if I think someone
doesn’t have the skillset,” said
Jamieson.
She is not a member of a
political party and says she
approaches her work with a
“really grounded, neutral lens”.
“I think most of the work I
do is probably in that centre to
centre-right space, but most of
my judgement with who I work
with comes down to if they align
with my values and, in my opinion,
if this person will be good
for the community or country.”
Jamieson overseas all aspects
“I’ve got to work with
candidates who are
likeable and have a good
chance of winning. I’m
really honest about that
sort of feedback if I
think someone doesn’t
have the skillset.”
Erin Jamieson
of the Mauger campaign
alongside the mayor himself,
from social media posts
and advertising to debate
preparation, strategy and media
relations.
For any prospective future
candidates, Jamieson’s advice
is to announce early and make
their vision clear.
behind the big mayoral campaigns
There is no top-level
campaign team as such,
rather Jamieson co-ordinates
volunteers and contracts out
specialist work like advertising
design and videography when
necessary.
“I have a huge amount of people
to draw on, but I’m across
everything.”
Jamieson said the Mauger
campaign has “hundreds” of
people who have volunteered
for tasks from leafletting to putting
up billboards.
Compared to the 2022 election,
Jamieson has noticed a
rise in “keyboard warriors” on
social media and online harassment,
particularly of Mauger’s
main election rival Sara
Templeton.
“People can criticise ideas
and policy but when they start
personally criticising someone,
that’s not fair,” she said.
“We’re very, very upset that’s
been happening to Sara and
kudos to her for standing. It’s
really unfair she’s been treated
that way.”
Sara Templeton
Rob Henderson is the campaign
manager for Templeton after
serving a similar role in David
Meates’ 2022 mayoralty bid.
He is the head of stakeholder
engagement at creative agency
Narrative Campaigns, which
has a focus on social and environmental
advocacy.
Narrative Campaigns co-founder
Rob Henderson is Sara Templeton’s
campaign manager. He previously
worked on David Meates’ bid for the
majoralty in 2022.
Henderson and Narrative
Campaigns founder Erin Jackson
were called in to support
Meates’ campaign just three
months before election day.
It was mostly in a volunteer
capacity, but they were compensated
for some costs.
“We came on sort of just as
advisors but then ended up
doing a lot of work for it in a
quite short time. So it was reasonably
stressful but also very
rewarding,” said Henderson.
“My role is co-ordinating
the key team but we’re
also a bit decentralised.
We’ve made sure to get
good people who are
empowered to do their
job . . .”
Rob Henderson
Meates, the former Canterbury
and West Coast District
Health boards chief executive,
entered the mayoral race nearly
11 months after Mauger did in
August 2021.
Some commentators believed
Meates made his bid too late. He
was 2271 votes short of becoming
mayor, beaten by Mauger
53,569 to 51,298.
It was the first time Henderson
and Jackson had been
managers of a mayoral campaign,
but they had been
previously involved in Jackson’s
own unsuccessful bid for a city
council seat in 2013.
Templeton’s campaign team,
including Henderson, is fully
volunteer with a nine-strong
core group taking on various
roles.
This includes organising more
than 300 people for door knocking
and leafletting, finance and
videography.
“We all like, and are here to
support, Sara’s vision for the
city,” he said.
“I like that Sara is focused on
moving the city forward, and
as a councillor she has worked
incredibly hard.”
Henderson is not a member of
a political party and prefers to
keep his political views private.
Templeton asked Henderson
to manage her campaign for
this election given his experience
and knowledge from
working with Meates.
“My role is co-ordinating
the key team but we’re also a
bit decentralised. We’ve made
sure to get good people who are
empowered to do their job without
me lording over them,” said
Henderson.
With Templeton being an
experienced city councillor and
speaker, Henderson says she
‘Hyper engaged’
Peninsula voters
boosting turnout
› From Page 1
“I think it’s really unfortunate
and ungracious that my
opponent would couch
things in those terms. I
have not been critical of
him,” he said.
Banks Peninsula still
holds close to a 5% lead
over the second highest
ward for voter returns,
Halswell, sitting at 22.79%
as of Tuesday.
“Banks Peninsula people
are just hyper engaged
in local issues and voting
really matters to them.
“It makes me so
heartened that people are
engaged in the democratic
process, it’s a real privilege
to represent those
communities,” Fields said.
He attributes the high
engagement to the ward’s
small, highly educated
communities, which foster
volunteerism and civic
activity.
Meanwhile, Heathcote Ward
currently ranks fifth in voter
turnout.
Nathaniel
Herz Jardine
Ian
As of Tuesday, 22.59% (4492)
of its 19,886 eligible voters
had cast ballots, slightly below
22.96% (4467) at the same
stage in 2022. The ward’s
cumulative turnout in
that election finished at
47.12%.
Heathcote Ward city
council candidate,
Nathaniel Herz Jardine,
expects its voter turnout
to improve this year.
He has found most
residents are engaged
with local politics,
particularly suburbs with
higher home ownership.
“It's exciting to see us
be close to the top of the
charts,” he said.
His opponent, Ian
Kearney, has found
there is a general apathy
towards the election.
“There’s a reluctance to
voting.
“The best way to fix
that is to rebuild that
confidence, if they say they’re
going to do something, they’ll
do everything they can to make
it happen,” he said.
Stolen tools auctioned by police
BY SAMANTHA GEE
A couple who had $50,000 of tools
stolen from a work vehicle in
Diamond Harbour were shocked
to find them being auctioned off
on behalf of police more than two
years later.
Gaston and Louise Monge-
Grassi were staying in Diamond
Harbour on a work trip in July
2023 when a thief broke into several
cars, including Gaston’s ute.
Hundreds of tools were taken,
including Gaston's toolbelt.
“I found the truck completely
open, empty and it was devastating,”
he said.
The couple own Piranha Tools
in Tasman, which sells building
and fine woodworking tools.
Apart from his initial call after
the theft, Gaston said he had not
had any direct contact with police,
despite numerous attempts to get
in touch with information about
the tools.
Christchurch Tactical Crime
Unit Detective Senior Sergeant
Stephanie Trengrove said police
attempted to identify ownership
of the seized property.
Property might be disposed of
if ownership could not be established,
she added. The victims
were kept informed during the
investigation, Trengrove said.
No charges were laid over the
stolen tools. The couple strongly
disagree with the police version
of events. “They've had the tools,
and the list of stolen tools for
two years, there's nothing active
about it,” she said.
The couple are in the process
of making a complaint to the
Independent Police Conduct
Authority.
Optimists mark 50 years
BY KATIE TODD
When a little homemade yacht
called Muffin first glided onto
the water at Lyttelton Harbour
in September 1975, its creator
Paul Pritchett could not have
imagined the waves it would
make.
The Optimist
was a tribute to
his late friend
Clive Roberts – a
champion sailor
who discovered
the beginnerfriendly
yacht
class overseas
and wanted to Paul Pritchett.
introduce it to
New Zealand.
Roberts was killed in a car
crash in May 1975.
Determined to honour his
friend's vision, Pritchett built
Muffin in his spare bedroom
for just $120.
Now 50 years after Muffin
first took to the sea, Pritchett
is preparing to return the
yacht and her original yellowand-red
KZ-1 sail to where it
all began – the Charteris Bay
Yacht Club – for an anniversary
celebration on Sunday.
Within four years of its
maiden voyage at the Charteris
Bay Yacht Club, Muffin
had inspired a revolution, with
more than 1400 Optimists registered
across New Zealand,
many of them to beginners,
seeking an easier alternative to
the popular P-Class.
Fifty years after Muffin took
Optimists being sailed near the Charteris Bay Yacht Club.
PHOTO: CHARTERIS BAY YACHT CLUB
to the sea, Pritchett was preparing
to return her to the club
where it all began, with her
original yellow-and-red KZ-1
sail, for anniversary celebrations
on Sunday.
Pritchett, who lives in Diamond
Harbour, said the boat
was still seaworthy, though it
was showing its age.
"I'll have to put it in the
water, but it leaks a bit," he
said.
"It was really thrashed when
it first launched, because everybody
in Canterbury wanted
a go in it.
"It went all around the different
clubs and it was used as a
demonstrator, until three-four
more were built."
Pritchett says the boat's
enduring appeal is down to its
accessibility for children under
10.
"It was very forgiving and
you can't sit on the wrong
side," he said.
"We started to envision a
future where every child could
learn to sail at low cost."
Yacht club commodore Kris
Perano said the Optimist was
an essential part of the New
Zealand’s yachting story, with
more than 4000 registered
around the country.
"They are the key class
within New Zealand, but also
globally, that kids are learning
to sail in and certainly still
a very big part of our club," he
said.
"Pretty much every kid starts
on an Opti, including Peter
Burling and all those sorts.
"We have kids as young as
8 routinely jumping in those
boats and having a brilliant
time."
Pritchett not only built the
country's first Optimist, but
played an instrumental role in
teaching "thousands of kids" to
sail, Perano said.
Donations promised for
speed camera initiative
BY KEES CHALMERS
Two people have each pledged
$500 towards a portable speed
camera to deter boy racers.
The initiative would aim
to tackle noisy road users,
speeding vehicles and safety
issues that have been troubling
residents around Lyttelton
Harbour for decades.
Banks Peninsula Ward city
council candidate, Dave Dunlay,
organised a meeting with Cass
Bay residents at the Lyttelton
Recreation Centre last week to
discuss a fundraising campaign
to pay for the speed camera
trial run.
A two month trial would cost
$4300. The camera would be
placed at locations around the
harbour to gather evidence of
anti social driving to share with
police for possible enforcement.
Dunlay said about 60 people
were at the meeting. He said
the feedback was encouraging
and he is optimistic the camera
would be operating by the end
of the year.
Several people have already
said they want to help pay for
the camera trial.
In addition to donations,
Dunlay is looking to bring
sponsors on board.
Following the two-month
trial, the evidence gathered
from the camera would be
presented to the city council, NZ
Transport Agency Waka Kotahi
and police to try and find a
permanent solution.
Poems and Prayers
by Matthew McConaughey
From the Academy Award-winning actor and #1 NY
Times bestselling author of Greenlights comes an
inspiring, faith-filled, and often hilarious collection
of personal poetry and prayers about navigating
the rodeo of life and chasing down the original
dream, belief. My prayers are my poems are my
prayers. I’ve always relied on logic to make sense
of myself and the world. A prescriptionist at heart,
I’ve always looked to reason to find the rhyme, the
practical to get to the mystical, the choreography
to find the dance, the proof to get to the truth, and
reality to get to the dream. I’ve been finding that
tougher to do lately. It’s more than hard to know
what to believe in; it’s hard to believe. But I don’t
want to quit believing, and I don’t want to stop
believing in...humanity, you, myself, our potential.
I think it’s time for us to flip the script on what’s
historically been our means of making sense, and
instead open our aperture to enchantment and
look to faith, belief, and dreams for our reality.
All the Way to the River
by Elizabeth Gilbert
The no. 1 bestselling writer who taught millions of
readers to live authentically (Eat Pray Love) and
creatively (Big Magic) shows how to break free. In
2000, Elizabeth Gilbert met Rayya. They became
friends, then best friends, then inseparable.
When tragedy entered their lives, the truth
was finally laid bare: the two were in love. They
were also a pair of addicts, on a collision course
toward catastrophe. What if your most beautiful
love story turned into your biggest nightmare?
What if the dear friend who taught you so much
about your self-destructive tendencies became
the unstable partner with whom you disastrously
reenacted every one of them? And what if your
most devastating heartbreak opened a pathway
to your greatest awakening? All the Way to the
River is a landmark memoir that will resonate
with anyone who has ever been captive to love
- or to any other passion, substance or craving -
and who yearns, at long last, for liberation.
This month’s local election is well
landed in the mailboxes of enrolled
voters.
Local elections are held by postal post,
with voters choosing their choice of:
• Mayor
• Ward councillor
• Community board members
A new initiative this election is the
publication of videos featuring the
candidates on the Christchurch City
Council website.
Of the 97 candidates standing, 92 took
up the offer to film a short video about
themselves.
Every candidate was asked:
• Tell us about yourself – your name
and where you are standing?
• What will you bring to the role?
• What would you like to achieve in
your term?
• What is the biggest challenge facing
the city or your community?
Election Officer Warwick Lampp
said personal videos were offered to
Christchurch candidates for the first
time this election.
“The intention of the videos is to
give voters as much information about
the candidates as possible, and we are
pleased so many candidates took up the
opportunity,” Lampp said.
“We know that lack of information
about candidates can be a reason why
people do not engage in the election
process.
“We encourage voters to watch the
videos and read their candidate profile
statements.”
VOTING
Voting for the election closes at noon,
Voters can post their completed voting
papers into any NZ Post or DX Mail
Peninsula Harbour is setting itself up
for the future, establishing a second
Canterbury Country open grade side for
the first time in the club’s history.
In addition to its premier team,
Harbour will now also field a side in the
senior grade – one tier below.
“We wanted to future proof the club,
so there’s a pathway for the junior
players,” said premier player-coach, Tim
Gruijters.
Before coming to New Zealand,
Gruijters, an off-spinning all-rounder,
played five one day and eight T20
internationals for the Netherlands
between 2010 and 2013.
Harbour open their season against
Darfield at Darfield Domain on Saturday
(12.30pm), boosted by the return of
58-test Black Cap Henry Nicholls, playing
his first game for the club in three years.
“We are quite a young team so I think
our players will look up to him and
how he acts. I think that will be very
valuable,” Gruijters said.
Created as a pathway for recent school
leavers, the senior grade team will give
young players a chance to grow before
stepping up to premier cricket. Among
them are St Bede’s batter Jim Foley
and ex-Christ’s College leg-spinner Will
Pearson, son of club secretary Mike
Pearson.
Pearson said keeping player numbers
consistent through the season could be
an issue.
“That’s going to be the challenging part
for the team, trying to get enough weekly
numbers, but we’re optimistic we’ll be
able to do it, it’s looking really good.”
Harbour competed in the senior grade
until the 2022/23 season, when it stepped
up to premier level.
The side placed seventh in its debut
campaign, made the semi-finals the
following year, and fell just short in this
year’s final in March.
The premier team has been
strengthened this season with batterwicketkeeper
Jackson Hodgkinson and
bowler Ben McAllister joining from
Leeston-Southbridge, which has been
unable to field a premier side this year.
Opener Chester Oldfield has also joined
from Taranaki.
At the same time, Harbour has lost
three regulars from last season – opening
batters John McKenzie and Jock Rollison,
who have moved to Australia, and allrounder
Rory Sloan, who has switched to
Ohoka Harrison/Bloy.
Gruijters believes the new signings
could push the club towards its first
premier title – going one better than last
season’s 46-run loss to Ohoka in the grand
final.
Gruijters is confident of another topfour
finish and said it remains the focus.
“Anything can happen in finals cricket,
so, getting into the top four is, for us, the
aim.”
The key to success will be keeping a core
group together to play consistent cricket,
Gruijters said. The additional senior side
will also provide much-needed depth for
the top team, something they have missed
in previous seasons.
“It’s excellent, it’s what we want,” he
said.
Mentoring fuels growth of
Timaru wellness startup
When Alicia Mabey started
livestreaming workouts during
lockdown, she wasn’t thinking about
brand strategy or business plans.
With gyms closed and visits to her
terminally ill father halted, the Timaru
mum of five and wellness coach was
simply trying to cope.
“I was struggling – and if I was, others
must have been too,” she said.
“I just wanted to help people get out of
bed and move their bodies.”
That impulse led to Motivating-Me, an
online wellness platform offering fitness
programmes, coaching, and workshops.
As demand grew, so did Mabey’s realisation
that she needed support.
“I didn’t know the first thing about
running a business,” said the former
teacher.
She turned to Business Mentors NZ, a
service supported by ChristchurchNZ,
and was matched with mentor Amanda
Pavanetti. The impact was immediate.
Pavanetti guided Mabey through defining
her audience, building a strategy,
and navigating digital marketing – particularly
advertising, which had been a
major blind spot.
“Each week she’d sit with me, set up
campaigns, then review them together.
It felt like she was in it with me. Her
belief in the business gave me real
confidence.”
Today, Motivating-Me has a national
presence with events across New
Zealand, while remaining proudly
Timaru-based.
To other small business owners who
are feeling stuck, Mabey has a clear
message.
SPONSORED CONTENT
Alice Mabey turned to Business Mentors NZ to
help establish and grow Motivating-Me, an online
wellness platform.
“A mentor brings fresh eyes and a
different perspective. As a sole trader,
I’m so emotionally tied to my business,
which is a strength, but it can also cloud
strategic thinking.
“My mentor helps bring me back
to what’s best for the business. That
balance has been a game-changer.”
ADVERTISING FEATURE
From its elevated vantage point, this remarkable
residence looks out to the heads of Lyttelton
Harbour - where the ocean meets the land in
an ever-changing play of light and tide.
Every aspect of the design embraces the view.
Vast panes of glass draw the seascape indoors,
while a choice of terraces and sheltered outdoor
spaces make the horizon your daily backdrop,
whether it's morning calm or the drama of a
passing southerly out at sea.
The open plan living and dining spaces flow
with ease, anchored by a chef's kitchen with
butler's pantry and high-end finishes. Large
sliders connect these areas to the Kwila hardwood
deck and entertaining space, complete with
built-in gas cooking - perfect for hosting with
the harbour as your centrepiece.
On the same level, the master suite offers a
private retreat where you can soak in the
bath while gazing out to the water. A generous
walk-in wardrobe and indulgent ensuite
enhance the sense of luxury, while a conveniently
located guest powder room adds extra comfort
and privacy. This level also provides internal
access to one of the property's two double
garages, a rare and valuable feature in this
location, along with a well-appointed laundry
with its own outdoor access. At road level, the
second double garage offers even more secure
parking or impressive storage capacity. A
central heating system with hot water radiators
ensures comfort throughout every season.
The lower level offers two bedrooms, each with
its own ensuite and direct access to the outdoor
terrace. Between them, a second lounge opens
to the terrace, providing another relaxing space
with a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
Set on an impressive 4,823sqm section, the
grounds are thoughtfully cultivated with fruit
trees and a vegetable garden, inviting you to
embrace a lifestyle of self-sufficiency and
connection to the land. This carefully
designed outdoor space perfectly complements
the home's luxury, offering both beauty and
purpose in equal measure.
The location completes the picture - coastal
walks and the local school are close by,
Christchurch City is an easy commute of just
approx. 9 km to Colombo Street, and the property
falls within the sought-after Cashmere High
School zone. Lyttelton's vibrant markets,
cafés, and boutiques add to the charm.
As New Zealand's only registered historic
township, Lyttelton blends rich heritage with
a lively modern culture, creating a setting
unlike any other. Combined with timeless
materials and a coastal backdrop that inspires
the senses, this home represents the pinnacle
of executive living - where luxury meets the
rhythm of the harbour.
