THE HEAD COACH

GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THIS

AFTERNOON’S GAME AGAINST PETERBOROUGH UNITED.

As well as welcoming visiting manager Darren

Ferguson, his staff, players and the travelling fans,

I’d also like to pay tribute to a special group of our

supporters who are here today.

I’m told the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Club

Norway is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year

and several members are at this afternoon’s game as

part of the celebrations.

I believe two of the founder members – Ole Peder

Østby and Petter Stig Thorvaldsen – are part of a

group of 16 of our Norwegian fans who have made

their annual trip over to watch a match and hold their

AGM. Our club will be recognising their efforts while

they’re here and I would also like to add my thanks to

all those who have been supporting and following us

from Norway for all those years for their comittment

and obvious love for the club.

Nearer home, I’d also like to thank the fans who can

be here more often for helping make our last league

game here so special. Winning the derby game was

important for us all and if we can generate that sort

of atmosphere on a regular basis for the rest of the

season it can only help us achieve what we want.

Of course, the win over Wigan was only worth three

points and it’s vital we build on it. It was frustrating in

that respect not to win at Northampton last weekend.

It was our first loss since the opening day of the

season so we’re no going to over-think it, but equally

we know we need to be more consistent and better

away from home to keep collecting points. In tight

games, or when you’re perhaps not at your best for

90 minutes, scoring the first goal can be vital and we

had chances to do that.

We were also unfortunate when Teddy saved the

penalty and Northampton were able to score their

second goal from the rebound but you have to make

your own luck sometimes and it’s important we react

in the right way today.

Our home form and record has been good and

while we know Peterboroughg can be a dangerous

opponent we must back ourselves to play with the

right intensity and attacking aggression to get the win

we all want.

Finally, I want to recognise that we are also marking

the FA’s Play Safe weekend at today’s fixture. The

campaign – which is endorsed by the NSPCC – is

designed to promote and champion safeguarding

across the game and encourages clubs and leagues

to play their part in making football safe, fun and

enjoyable for everyone, everywhere, every time.

This year’s theme – ‘Small Talk is Bigger Than You

Think’ – focuses on giving young people a voice and

encourages every adult in football to create open

conversations, ask questions and actively listen to

children.

Here at Wanderers through our One Club, One

Community, One Town ethos we fully endorse that

message and want everyone, including children, to

come and watch and support our team in a safe and

welcoming environment.

Thanks, as ever, for your support and enjoy the game.

WHITES’ LEGEND, CLUB AMBASSADOR AND

WANDERERS TV PUNDIT ‘SUPER’ JOHN MCGINLAY SAYS

IT AS IT IS IN HIS REGULAR MATCH-DAY COLUMN.

JohnMcGinlay

I understand it was 33 years ago this week I

signed for this great club. Being around the club

again means it doesn’t feel a different lifetime

but I would love to wind the clock back. I think

as a player that feeling never leaves your head.

Obviously, your body tells you couldn’t do it

anymore, but your head still thinks you could.

It feels good again now, though, because I feel we’ve

got a team on the pitch that I think is going places.

Everything about it, the staff, the players, just the way

we’re going about things again, it just feels like the

club is on an upward trajectory and it does excite me.

That was the feeling here a fortnight ago when we

beat Wigan, which was a huge day for us. Not only

did we get the result we wanted, we actually played

some unbelievable football, we really did.

Wigan have had our number for a few years and to

reverse that, because we won the last game at Wigan

as well, with a good win in front of an unbelievable

crowd was fantastic.

It also put to bed all these theories that we can’t play

in front of a big crowd and all that sort of stuff, so lots

of things on the day were really good. I thought the

crowd were sensational. Backing the team from the

first to the last whistle, they were great.

It was a disappointing game at Northampton last

Saturday because you felt like ‘that’s us, we’ve got

to lift-off and away we go.’ On the back of a great

performance you’re going to feel it and it’s going to

hit hard because you think ‘well, we’ve shown that,

we can do that every week.’

Truth be known, we should have been two or three

up before we conceded but we didn’t take our

chances and that’s it. Northampton kept battling

away and kept themselves in the game and they took

their chances when they came along.

It just means we’ve just got to get going again today,

you know. No disrespect to Peterborough because

we know they’re a good side and we know they

always try and play good football. But at this moment

in time they’re not having a great time and it’s a great

opportunity for us to go on and get ourselves back

on track again.

Enjoy the game and get behind the lads.

John

The Former Players’ Association remains very active and we were delighted to hand over some of the rewards of our

fund-raising efforts to two incredibly worthy causes. As well as donating £1,000 to Bolton Hospice we also presented

a cheque for £600 to Bolton Cancer Voices – one of the few choirs in the country specifically for cancer patients and

cancer survivors – and their founder and chair Karen Elliott and group members Gill Clarke and Roger Winstanley.

Ethan

Erhahon

THE BIG INTERVIEW

Forged in the West of Scotland and battlehardened

from an early age in the Scottish

top tier, Ethan Erhahon is up for the fight

with Wanderers, writes Pete Oliver.

ETHAN ERHAHON

IS PROUDLY

SPONSORED BY:

The midfield man might only have turned 24 in

May, but he is already into his eighth season as a

first-team footballer. And as he closes in on 200

league appearances and 250 in total, Erhahon

hopes his nous and know-how will help in a

promotion hunt as Wanderers look to live up to

their billing as one of the division’s pre-season

favourites.

“That was one of the biggest things about my move

here,” said Erhahon, who made the switch from

League One rivals Lincoln City in the summer and

could play the 199th league fixture of his career here

against Peterborough this afternoon.

“I’d had conversations with other clubs and other

people, but the thing that stood out was the ambition

of this club. I’ve played here, I know what the fans are

like and I know what the club’s like.

“I’m half-Nigerian (through his father) and I know

about Jay-Jay Okocha and the really good times in

the Premier League as a club as well. I knew all

about the club and the size of the club and it

was impossible to turn down, really. It definitely

(comes with an expectation) and last Saturday was

disappointing but we need to rise to that and we will.

“It’s a bit of a youngish group but I know the gaffer

spoke when I came that I’m not one of the oldest, but

I’ve got a lot of games, so the experience is definitely

there and I try and be a voice in the changing room.

We’ve got loads of lads like that and the leadership

group is very vocal as well, so that’s on us to use that

expectation. I think at home we’ve showed that and

we’ve got to do that away from home as well.”

Wanderers’ summer swoop for Erhahon was

designed to bring proven League One form and

staying power to the squad, as well as a player with

room to grow and a presence moulded from close to

a decade of first-team football.

Having been at St Mirren since the age of four,

Glasgow-born Erhahon progressed all the way

through the academy set-up at the Paisley-based

club before making an early baptism at first-team

level as a 16-year-old.

His Scottish Championship bow came in the side that

won the title in 2018 to give him the chance to get

a first taste of the Premiership in one of the biggest

fixtures possible early the following season.

“I kind of got thrown into the deep end at left-back

one game,” Erhahon recalled. “I think the left-back

got injured and I was a left-footer and the gaffer

said, ‘oh, you’re playing left-back against Rangers live

on Sky Sports. I was like ‘okay’. I hadn’t played many

games at this point but I played and I think it did me

in good stead.”

The youthful Erhahon couldn’t prevent a 2-0 defeat

for ‘The Buddies’ against a Rangers side whose cast

included future Wanderer Scott Arfield. But the die

had been cast and Erhahon went on to start 19 topflight

games for St Mirren in the 2018/19 season as

part of a total of 123 in his time in Scotland.

“It’s experience and no matter where you’re playing,

just being on that park against those top players and

experiencing that men’s football at that young age is

something that not a lot of people get,” he added.

“There are a couple of big clubs there who obviously

do well and you’ve got Hearts Aberdeen as well.

There’s loads of good clubs there, loads of good

players. I think people sometimes went from England

to there and thought it’s going to be easy and they’ve

struggled.

“It shows you it is a good level. It’s a different type

of league. It’s a bit mental sometimes but it’s a good

league and I still watch it all the time and I’m still

close to the (St Mirren) manager.”

Erhahon had made his mark in Scotland – getting

capped at international level up to Under-21 – but

wanted to try his luck south of the border and

following a brief loan spell at Barnsley curtailed

during the COVID season got his break at Lincoln

City with a move into League One at Sincil Bank in

January, 2023.

THE WANDERER | 13

“It had been something that I’d always thought of

as a kid and we thought England might be a better

platform for me to maybe make that next step to the

level that I wanted to get to in my career. Lincoln,

thankfully, gave me that opportunity,” Erhahon said.

“They bought me for a substantial fee which they

hadn’t paid for anyone at the time. It was a big show

of faith in me, which I really liked. I was young, it was

my first proper move and I loved it.

“I was there for two-and-a-half years. They gave me

the platform that I’d always wanted and we had some

good times there. We just missed out on the play-offs

one year and in my first full season I was players’

player and fans’ player of the year, which was huge.

“It stood me in good stead preparing me for English

football because I wasn’t used to playing Saturday-

Tuesday. The Scottish league’s very much Saturday-

Saturday, really, so playing Saturday-Tuesday took a

while but that only helped and I got used to it. Sadly,

towards the end of my time there I got injured, which

put a dampener on it, but I had a great two-and-ahalf

years there. Lincoln gave me that platform to

then take the next step to where I want to get in my

career.”

That is now at Wanderers where Erhahon is starting

to make his mark in a highly competitive central

midfield unit as a controlling presence with a sweet

left foot.

“We’ve got a good squad here, so you understand

the changes,” added the Scot, whose appearances so

far this term have alternated between starts and via

the bench. “I’ve loved every minute so far and there’s

more to come. Hopefully, I do get in that rhythm of

playing loads of games. I haven’t played a lot of

football since January because I was out for three

months at the end of last season and getting in that

rhythm is important.

WHEN WE’RE PLAYING IN THAT

ATMOSPHERE IT ONLY MAKES US

THINK, ‘WOW, WE NEED TO DO IT

FOR THEM.’

“If you spoke to everyone in that changing

room they’d probably all tell you we all want to be

in a rhythm. It’s not possible. You see that at the big

clubs, City, United and stuff. But we want to win this

league and it’s going to take everybody to win the

league, so when I’m called upon I’ll be ready to show

the gaffer what I can do.”

Erhahon’s last start came a fortnight ago in the

Whites’ 4-1 derby demolition of Wigan, which set

a high bar as Wanderers extended their unbeaten

home record. The target now is to reach it again on

a consistent basis, continuing against Peterborough

following only a second league loss of the campaign

at Northampton Town a week ago which left Steven

Schumacher’s men 11th in the table.

“I think that showed where we can get to as a team

and as a club as well, off the pitch. The atmosphere

was absolutely mental. It’s not a derby every week but

that atmosphere only helps us, regardless of who we

play,” Erhahon added.

“When we’re playing in that atmosphere it only makes

us think, ‘wow, we need to do it for them.’ As much

as we want to win we know what it means to the

25,000 people that are sitting in that stadium.

“We need to use that and we want to win as a team

as well. We’ve got a lot of winners in there. We hate

losing. Even today in five-a-side it’s competitive, it’s

fierce. Boys are hurting and that’s what you need. It’s

a group that all want to go to the same place.”

And we all know where that is.

LET’S DO IT FOR DERRICK!

The recent derby-day victory over Wigan

Athletic was a superb occasion for all connected

with Bolton Wanderers. A 4-1 win provided

a memorable afternoon, with an electric

atmosphere inside the Toughsheet Community

Stadium.

Adding to the special nature of the day was the

presence of our guest of honour, legendary supporter

Derrick Lee, who recently celebrated his 100th

birthday. His attendance brought a wonderful sense

of history to a significant local fixture.

Before kick-off, Derrick met with Chairman Sharon

Brittan, who personally welcomed him to the match.

In a warm exchange, Sharon presented Derrick with

a personalised, framed Wanderers shirt bearing his

name and the number 100 to mark his milestone.

Derrick was full of gratitude for his experience.

“I am so grateful to everyone at Bolton Wanderers,

from the fans to my friends,” he said. “Sharon was

charming and I had a brilliant day from start to finish.

The perfect result made it complete.”

Commented on the special meeting, Sharon said:

“It was an absolute privilege to meet Derrick and

his friends. To have supported this club for so long,

through all its unique chapters, is extraordinary.

“His presence was a powerful reminder of what this

club means to our town and our community, and it

truly humbled me. We are on this journey together

and Derrick’s spirit is something that can inspire us

all. He represents the very best of the Bolton family.”

Derrick’s support for the Whites now extends beyond

80 years. His journey with the club began at Burnden

Park as a young man and has taken him to Wembley

for the 1958 FA Cup Final. He has been with us

through periods of success and difficulty.

His presence here a fortnight ago was a potent

reminder of the deep-rooted passion that defines

Bolton Wanderers. The performance that followed,

full of energy and clinical finishing, was a proper

tribute to a man who has given so much of his life to

the team.

Let’s get behind the team for every remaining match,

fill this stadium with noise and show the same

dedication he has shown us for a lifetime.

Together, let’s do it for Derrick.

1] It is with sadness that we report the death of lifelong

Wanderers fan Robert Stevens from Oxfordshire.

From watching his first match at Villa Park in 1962 to

hearing of the recent victory over Wigan, he was a

Wanderer to the core.

Also a local player of some repute, he liked to model his

game on boyhood hero Freddie Hill.

Like all Wanderers’ supporters, he experienced the highs

and lows over the years..... promotions, relegation, trips

to Wembley and the European tours. One of his proudest

memories came at Munich in 2007, courtesy of Super

Kevin Davies.

One of his final wishes would be that the Wanderers

continue to improve and reach the levels which gave us all

so much enjoyment over the years.

Forever a Wanderer.

And always a Rolling Stone.

Rest in Peace.

2] Happy Birthday to Katie Mcgrath, who will be 22 on 16th

October. Katie is a massive Bolton fan who has followed

the Whites everywhere they go since she was five years old.

We all want to wish her a very happy birthday and let her

know we all love her very much.

Happy birthday Katie. Love Dad, Mum, Lauren, Callum and

an extra special wish from boyfriend Lee xxxxx

3] Happy 80th Bbirthday to season ticket holder Barbara

Cartwright with lots of love from Rod, Richard, Anmarie,

Max and Lily-Anna. We all hope you have a wonderful day!

4] Happy 80th birthday to an amazing mum and nana,

Carol Aldersley. Carol is a season ticket holder and sits

in the Nat Lofthouse upper with her daughter Zoe and

grandson Cian. She loves all things Bolton Wanderers and

her favourite players are John McAtee and Aaron Morley.

Lots of love from Zoe, Andrew, Alex, Cian, Andy, Hayley,

Oscar and Ollie.

5] A lifelong Bolton Wanderers fan, Andy Watson is

celebrating his milestone 70th birthday today at the

Toughsheet Community Stadium, enjoying the match in

style with his family.

Over the years, Andy has followed the Whites through thick

and thin, home and away, and today’s visit is a special gift

from his family to mark this wonderful occasion.

From Suzanne, Michael & Lily - with all our love - happy

birthday to a wonderful husband, dad, father-in-law and

grandad.

6] Happy birthday Fiona, lots of love from family and

friends.

7] Happy 40th to Chris Worsley, whose special birthday is

being celebrated today in the Lion of Vienna Suite.

Chris has been a lifelong Wanderer and is pictured on one

of many European adventures. Enjoy your day.

8] The Taylor clan of Gary, Wayne, Malcolm and Wayne

watched Wanderers’ 1-1 draw at Leyton Orient from

Lanzarote before making it back to their usual seats for the

big derby win over Wigan.

Bucket hats at the ready as per every game. Cheers lads!

20 | THE WANDERER

peterborough united

PETERBOROUGH UNITED ARE NO STRANGERS TO FLUCTUATING FORTUNES IN RECENT TIMES

AND SO FAR THIS TERM ARE CONTINUING TO FOLLOW THAT TREND, WRITES PETE OLIVER.

In the last five seasons, Posh’s roller-coaster

has seen them win promotion from League One

in 2021, come straight back down from the

Championship the following season and then

twice reach the League One play-offs with Darren

Ferguson back at the helm.

Ferguson – who boasts a remarkable CV at London

Road across his four spells in charge – saw his

side surrender a 4-0 first-leg semi-final lead in their

2023 play-off semi-final loss to Sheffield Wednesday

before galvanising the team to go again two seasons

ago when they again reached the semi-finals before

losing to Oxford.

The hangover wasn’t so easy to shake last time

around as Peterborough fought a relegation

scrap before finishing 18th in the table.

But, again, the season wasn’t without its

highlights as Ferguson’s men upset the odds

by beating Birmingham City at Wembley

to win the EFL Trophy for the second

year in a row and third in total – all

under the guidance of the former

Manchester United midfielder.

Once again this summer Peterborough

then lost a number of their star players

as their three leading scorers from last

season in Ricky Jade-Jones, Malik

Mothersille and Kwame Poku all moved

on.

That meant another close-season reshuffle

and the arrival of a handful of new

faces, including attacking midfielder Klaidi

Lolos who joined Posh from Wanderers

in August to end a 12-month stay with the

Whites which arguably hit its high spot

In Opposition

with a dramatic late winner against Peterborough last

October.

Defender Sam Hughes returned to the club on a

permanent basis following a successful loan spell from

Stockport County last season but the captain is yet

to feature so far because of injury.

Fellow summer signings Brandon Khela and

Jimmy Jay-Morgan have enjoyed better fortune

with former Birmingham City youngster Khela an

ever-present so far in midfield and Jay-Morgan

scoring three times since arriving on loan from

Chelsea.

Collectively, it’s been a sticky start, though, with

Peterborough heading to Wanderers sitting in

the bottom three of League One.

One point from their opening seven games had

Posh on the back foot and even though back-toback

wins over Wycombe and Plymouth steadied

the ship, last weekend’s 3-0 ‘derby’ defeat to

fast-starting Lincoln City stalled the revival.

A mid-week win over Villa’s U21s was therefore timely

on the confidence front with former Braintree striker

Kyrell Lisbie bagging a second-half hat-trick via the

bench to claim his first goals for the club.

A 4-2 win revived Peterborough’s hopes of qualifying

for the knock-out stages of the Vertu Trophy and the

chance of going for three in a row. More importantly

it also made it three wins from four in all competitions

as Posh belatedly look to get their season in gear.

30th April, 2017 | Attendance: 22,590.

A point would have been enough on the final day but

Wanderers made absolutely sure with a 13th home

win of the campaign.

Jem Karacan – a free agent snapped up just before

the transfer deadline – set the ball rolling before

half-time before big David Wheater nodded in the

Whites’ second goal early in the second half.

With celebrations in full swing, Le Fondre then put

the icing on the cake with his sixth goal of another

productive stay to provide a welcome high point in a

difficult time for the club.

Wanderers: Howard, Dervite, Beevers, Taylor,

Wanderers have enjoyed some memorable days

against Peterborough in the past.

In February, 2023, the Whites couldn’t have picked

a better day to hit five than their 5,000 league game

and a 5-0 win at London Road.

And on their own ground, a promotion party in 2017

was another day to remember for Wanderers and

their fans.

Phil Parkinson’s side sealed an instant return to the

Championship with a 3-0 win over Posh to secure

second spot in League One behind championship

Sheffield United.

CLUB HISTORIAN SIMON MARLAND LOOKS BACK AT PREVIOUS GAMES THAT TOOK PLACE…

ON THIS DAY … 4TH OCTOBER.

2016 | The Wanderers picked up their first win in

the Checkatrade Trophy with a 1-0 victory against

Blackpool at the Macron Stadium. Ben Alnwick made

his Bolton debut in goal having signed on deadline

day and there was a return to the side for former

Real Madrid defender Derik Osede. What turned out

to be the only goal of the game came after just four

minutes, a Zach Clough shot from a corner falling

for Sammy Ameobi to poke the ball into the net from

close range. (pictured) The nearest Bolton came

to increasiung their lead came on the hour when

Clough saw a shot hit the inside of the post and roll

along the goalline.

1978 | Having accounted for Chelsea at Burnden

Park in the second round of the League Cup the

Wanderers were handed a tie at Third Division Exeter

City and became the victims of a giant killing with

the then First Division Trotters going down 2-1. The

winner came from a disputed 62nd minute penalty

scored by Tony Kellow but the biggerst blow came

when Neil Whatmore was sent off for retailiation six

minutes later. Exeter had taken the lead in the 17th

minute through John Delve but Bolton levelled in the

50th minute when Alan Gowling (pictured) slammed

the ball home after Sam Allardyce had set him up.

To add insult to injury the flight back was delayed for

three hours when a pilot failed to turn up.

1975 | Bolton extended their unbeaten run in the

second division to seven games with a 5-0 mauling

of Charlton Athletic at Burnden. The Addicks were

shattered by the opening two goal burst from captain

and full back John Ritson who showed the expertise

of a striker by lashing both into the net from outside

the penalty area. Neil Whatmore was on hand

to drive home the third goal in the 52nd minute

(pictured) and he then turned provider for John

Byrom to score the fourth. Five minutes from time

Whatmore completed the rout in the pouring rain to

send the home supporters home happy.

Davit GVARAMADZE

SIMON MARLAND LOOKS BACK AT PLAYERS WHO REPRESENTED THEIR COUNTRY, AND THE

WANDERERS RESERVES, WITHOUT MAKING ANY FIRST TEAM APPEARANCES FOR THE CLUB.

Recognised as one of the best Georgian

goalkeepers of his generation Gvaramadze began

his career with Dinamo Tbilisi at the age of 15 in

1991. He spent three years with Dinamo and then

joined Kakheti Telavi but failed to establish himself

and spells with Iberia Khashuri and Dinamo

Batumi followed.

In 1998 he signed for WIT Georgia and had a spell

with Skonto Riga of Latvia, and it was that year that

he made his international debut in a Rothmans

Tournament 3-0 win against Albania in Malta.

He was re-signed by his first club Dinamo Tbilisi

and played in the UEFA Cup with them during 1998

attracting other clubs which saw him join Russian

Premier Division side Kryla Sovetov Samara. He

returned to Georgia with champions Torpedo

Kutaisi and in April 2001 came to Bolton on trial.

His only appearance came at the Reebok Stadium

in a scoreless Avon Insurance League game with

Birmingham City.

Dinamo re-signed him in 2002 and whilst with them

had a trial with Hibernian which came to nothing. He

remained with Dinamo before moving across the city

to Lokomotivi in 2004 whjere he ended his career in

2008.

In all he represented Georgia on 28 occasions, being

a regular during the UEFA Euro 2000 qualifying

tournament and ended his international career in

2004 in the Cyprus tournament where they lost 3-1

to the host nation. He played in the same Georgian

team as Giorgi

Kinkladze of

Manchester

City and Temur

Ketsbaia then of

Newcastle United.

James Berry

Fuel for Performance

Wanderers’ Performance Chef James Berry is one of the key men

behind the team at the training ground and on match days. In his

latest column for the ‘The Wanderer’, he shares some away-day

tips and a tasty recipe to help you get ready for action.

MEXICAN THEMED LUNCH

AT LOSTOCK – MEXICAN

FLANK STEAK FLATBREAD

On Tuesday we went Mexican with a vibrant,

performance-focused lunch for the staff and players.

They were served:

• Fajita Salmon – rich in omega-3s and protein, cooked

with peppers and onions for a recovery boost.

• Mexican-Style Whole Grain Rice – slow-release carbs

with black beans and spices to support energy levels.

• Chilli Con Carne – lean beef and kidney beans for iron

and sustained protein.

• Sweet Potato Wedges – a potassium-rich carb source,

great for muscle recovery.

• Carne Asada Flatbreads – our twist on a Mexican classic.

Carne asada literally means ‘grilled meat’. It’s typically

thinly sliced beef (we used flank) marinated with lime

juice, garlic, chilli, cumin, and fresh coriander, then

grilled quickly over high heat for maximum flavour.

It’s smoky, juicy, and traditionally served in tacos

or burritos, although at Lostock we served it up on

warm flatbreads.

CARNE ASADA FLATBREADS

• Why: High-protein, iron-rich beef with quick carbs from

the flatbread — great post-training meal.

• Carne Asada: Marinate flank steak in lime juice, garlic,

olive oil, cumin, chili, and fresh coriander. Grilled hot &

fast, sliced thin.

• Served with guacamole (healthy fats), tomatoes (vitamin

C), and a little sour cream (extra protein).

At Wanderers we are proud to work alongside

Althams Butchers, who supply all the meat we use

at the training ground. Their commitment to quality

ensures the players are fuelled with the very best

produce to support their preparation, performance,

and recovery throughout the season.

Established in 1856, Althams is one of the oldest

family-owned butchers in the country. From their

state-of-the-art butchery in Morecambe, they supply

leading hotels and restaurants across the UK and

we’re delighted to benefit from that same standard

here at Bolton Wanderers. They will even deliver to

your doorstep, so give them a “butchers”

http://althamsbutchers.co.uk

CARNE ASADA RECIPE

• Orange juice – 180 ml

• Lemon juice – 120 ml

• Lime juice – 80 ml

• Fresh cilantro – 1 bunch

→ approx. 30 g

• Soy sauce – 120 ml

• Garlic – 4 cloves

• Chili powder – 1 tablespoon

• Ground cumin – 1 tablespoon

• Ground paprika – 1 tablespoon

• Ground black pepper – 1 tablespoon

• Canned chipotle pepper, finely chopped – 1 teaspoon

• Dried oregano – 1 teaspoon

• Olive oil – 120 ml

CARNE ASADA MARINADE

Why it works: A citrus, soy, and spice marinade

makes flank steak tender, juicy, and full of flavour.

YOU’LL NEED

• Citrus juice, soy, garlic, spices, chipotle, olive oil

• Flank steak/ sirloin

METHOD

1. Mix all the marinade ingredients. Reserve 150ml

for serving.

2. Pound steak lightly, then marinate up to 24 hours

(overnight works too).

3. Grill on high heat, about 5 minutes per side for

medium-rare.

4. Rest, slice, and finish with the reserved marinade.

SERVE IT

• In tacos or on flatbreads

• Over salad

• Or simply as tender steak on its own

B Team defender Sean

Hogan is spending a

three-month loan spell

back at Ashton United.

Hogan returns to the Robins

for the further chance

of competitive first-team

football following three

appearances in an earlier

loan spell with the Northern

Premier League top-flight

side.

The 19-year-old former

Youth Team skipper – who

has made it as far as the

bench at first-team level with the Whites – made a

second ‘debut’ in the FA Cup third qualifying round

but following a replay against Runcorn Linnets saw

his temporary side go out of the competition on

Tuesday night.

The B Team’s scheduled Central League fixture at

home to Wrexham this week was postponed with

Andy Taylor’s men next back in competitive action

against Stoke City in the Central League Cup on

Tuesday-week.

The Youth Team was looking to make it two wins

out of two in the U18 Professional Development

League Cup this morning.

The young Whites kicked off their campaign with a

3-1 win at Coventry City to top their four-team group.

Julian Darby’s in-form side faced Port Vale – beaten

1-0 at neighbours Crewe Alexandra in their opener

– at Lostock earlier today with the chance to close in

on qualification for the knock-out stages.

Defending champions Wanderers currently sit second

in the EFL Youth Alliance table thanks to a five-match

unbeaten run. The Whites were only minutes away

from a fifth straight win before conceding a late goal

at Blackpool a week ago.

MANAGEMENT

CHANGE

Tom Cunniff will lead

Wanderers’ bid to reach

the first-round proper

of the Adobe Women’s

FA Cup after being

appointed Interim Head

Coach.

Wanderers this week confirmed that Women’s Team

Head Coach, Myles Smith, and Assistant Coach,

Megan Campbell, have left their roles.

Cunniff, who has worked successfully within Bolton’s

girls’ and women’s team set-ups for several years,

steps up from his position as joint assistant coach to

become Interim Head Coach, overseeing all women’s

first-team matters.

He will therefore be in charge when Wanderers

head north tomorrow (Sunday 5th October) to take

on Gateshead-based Rutherford Ladies in a thirdqualifying

round tie.

The Whites, who beat Chester FC 5-0 at the secondqualifying

stage, will join the National League Premier

Division clubs in the first round if they can negotiate

a tricky tie on Tyneside against a club which plays in

Division One North of the North-

East Regional Women’s League.

Wanderers go into the game on

the back of a 6-1 win over Preston

North End with goals from Evie

Sadler (2), Faye Knox (2) Eleanor

Seals and Imogen Longcake

securing progress in the Alliance

Design & Print Cup.

Meanwhile, Wanderers

acknowledge the contributions

of Myles Smith and Meg Taylor

and wish them well in their

future endeavours. The Club’s

commitment to the Women’s Team

is unchanged and full support will

be given to Tom and the squad.

GOLDEN GOAL WINNER

Our most recent Golden Goal winner was Nathan

Hampson of Runcorn who had the winning ticket

showing 14 mins and 20 seconds from the win

over Wigan.

Nathan’s dad, Mark, always buys a couple of tickets

every match from our seller Jason who stands

outside the club shop and then gives Nathan first

‘dibs’ on which one he has and, boy, did he make the

right choice this time!

He’s not sure what he’ll be spending his winnings on,

but I am sure he will treat his dad. Congratulations

Nathan.

Another £500 is up for grabs today. Remember this

is a cash only lottery and you must be over 18 years

old to play.

One Wanderers

LET’S MAKE THIS A SEASON TO REMEMBER.

To do that, we all have a role to play in making

the Toughsheet Community Stadium a safe

and welcoming place for everyone. If you

see or hear any behaviour that concerns you,

please report it. You can speak to your nearest

steward in confidence or, alternatively, text the

club’s dedicated ‘One Wanderers’ number:

All reports are treated seriously and help us

ensure that matchdays are enjoyable for all

supporters.
