Government shutdown: What to expect for the
manufacturing, recreation industries
The federal government shut down in the early
morning of Oct. 1, after Congress failed to agree on a
short-term spending bill.
A government shutdown has immediate effects for
public lands and waters that support recreational
boating and outdoor access. Agencies like the
National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service will have limited staff; and as
a result, many parks may be limited in access, or close
altogether during the shutdown.
Disruptions are also anticipated within the
manufacturing sector.
