SACOVIE WHITE-HELTON

ON SACOVIE:

PERFORMANCE HOODIE
LORAN SMITH: ON SACOVIE WHITE-HELTON
Sacovie White-Helton’s story is conspicuous and uplifting
in that his name has gone through an adjustment—which
has brought about a touching and heartwarming moment
in his life.
He added Helton latently as the result of moving in with
a family thathas adopted him because of his relationship
with the Heltons’ special needs daughter, Caroline. They
became friends at school (Cass High School in Cartersville),
and Sacovie has been a big brother in the truest sense.
You can imagine how big a fan Caroline is regarding her
big brother, who is a fine football player who is seeing more
and more playing time and is the beneficiary of high marks
from his coaches with respect to his future.
A redshirt freshman, Sacovie enrolled at UGA in January
following his senior year of high school and is diligently
working to improve his skills as a wide receiver.
In addition to football, he played basketball in high
school and was also a member of the track team. As a
history major this is an altruistic young man who can
discourse with you on many topics other than X’s and O’s.

Get tough or go home, Georgia vs. Auburn … ‘See You … On the Plains!’
Now that was more like it … Dawgs 35 Cats 14!
This past weekend in Athens was just what the
doctor ordered for our players, coaches and fans after
the gut-wrenching loss to Bama a few weeks back.
You never know how a team will respond to adversity, but is that
necessarily the truth here in Athens? Despite the Kentucky game
kicking off at high noon, did we really think Coach Smart’s team
was going to come out flat? Particularly, after their epic 33-game
home winning streak had been snapped by the Crimson Tide.
Probably not, right?
What I liked best about the Kentucky win was our offense
getting on the board in the first quarter. You can’t be a true
Georgia fan and not admit that slow starts plagued the Georgia
offense most of last season
and the beginning of this 2025
campaign. So big time kudos to
offensive coordinator Mike Bobo
and all of his staff for dialing up
some gems to keep the other
team on their heels for most of
the victory over the Wildcats.
And the same goes for the
players on offense. After all, no
matter the call (good or bad) it
does come down to execution
by the players on the field.
Beyond the field, the scene
in Athens for Homecoming
Weekend was perfection. Athens

eateries were filled to the brim
from Friday night all the way
though Sunday’s victory brunches. And the same goes on the
shopping front. To borrow from Munson, don’t you know there
were some credit cards destroyed all weekend long, ha, ha.
That is the beauty of Georgia Football. Yes, everyone in the
Bulldog Nation loves their Dawgs, but the time we get together
throughout the Fall is equally satisfying. That was certainly the
case at Myers Quad before kickoff versus Kentucky. Alumni
tailgates galore weren’t thwarted by the early kickoff time.
Cooking crews arrived well before the 6 a.m. opening time for
entry. And my goodness, the fellowship and barbecuing going on
there throughout the day was second to none.
Pardon all my sentimentality above. I guess it is okay when
talking about the fun and pageantry surrounding Homecoming
Weekend in God’s country. However, it is now time to turn the
page because there will be no such thing as sentimentality, nor
hospitality this Saturday night as our Bulldogs head to the Plains.
Georgia versus Auburn … the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry …
Cam Newton’s #2 Jersey Retirement Ceremony … ‘Let’s get ready
to Rummmbleeee!!!’
RING THE TOUGHNESS (DILLON) BELL!
Sports fans, don’t kid yourselves our Dawgs are heading into a
hornets’ nest this weekend in Auburn. Their team, their coach and
their passionate fan base are so hungry for an epic victory. And
who better to achieve that mark against than their oldest foe,
Georgia.
It is for this reason (throughout this issue), our pages include
some of the toughest Dawgs on the 2025 roster. Yes, our cover
with tight end Oscar Delp towering over Jordan-Hare Stadium
is cool looking (nice job Hamilton Culpepper on design and Rob
Saye capturing the Delp image), however the real message with
the cover is the importance of Oscar having one of his best games
as a Georgia Bulldog on Saturday night. After all, it was only
because of Oscar’s predecessor, Brock Bowers, that our Bulldogs
escaped with a victory the last time on the Plains.
And on this page, these images
of wide receiver Dillon Bell out
fighting the Kentucky defender
for a huge reception also denotes
the toughness that will be
required on Saturday night to
get back to Athens with a victory.
Be who you are No. 86. And for
the love of Georgia Coach Bobo,
I implore you to keep finding
creative ways to ring the Bell on
the Plains.
Then there is Gunner Stockton,
who continues to show the
country his moxie and toughness
every Saturday. On page 36, Greg
Poole nails it when talking about
what Gunner’s uniform looks like at the end of every game. It is
exactly what you would want from your quarterback who fights
for every yard for this team.
Man, I can’t wait to get to Auburn. The scene is going to be
insane. As I tell folks, it doesn’t get more deafening than inside
Jordan-Hare when the home team is rolling. And while Hugh
Freeze is still searching for chemistry with his offense, Kirby
Smart’s respect for his play calling ability is second to none. The
Tigers are going to move the ball, which means our defense must
force field goals and our offense must score touchdowns when
the opportunities present themselves.
Enjoy this issue of BI. There are tons of fan photos beginning
on page 22. And Augustan Ross Trulock is our Proust Q&A
participant on page 32. I can’t wait to see Ross soon, so he can
expand on his bride’s rebound in Indy at the Natty in 2021.
Touchdown Georgia!
As our cover proudly says, ‘See You … on the Plains!’ It doesn’t
get any better than Georgia versus Auburn … Go Dawgs!!

Kirby and Company look to extend the recent mastery
over the Auburn Tigers in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry!
When Georgia beat Auburn
19-14 to clinch the 1982
Southeastern Conference
championship, with the
incomparable Larry Munson narrating a
masterpiece, that Saturday on the Plains
served as one of my most memorable
Bulldog victories of all-time. That grand
victory pushed top-ranked Georgia to
10-0 and a third straight SEC title en
route to a perfect 11-0 regular season,
capped with a 38-18 triumph Between
the Hedges over the Yellow Jackets. I was
10, and it was just a wonderful day that
I’ll never forget.
Well, from 1983 through 1990, as I say
often, back when I was really into Georgia
football, Auburn won seven of the eight
meetings over that stretch. Thank you
Steve Boswell and Wayne Johnson on
the water cannons night of 1986. That
same year at night, James Jackson put
the ball on the ground when the clock
struck zero in Columbia. My heart sank,
and I remember in a panicked thought,
believing you couldn’t advance a fumble.
Which at the time, you couldn’t. Anyways,
Georgia somehow won both of those
games.
The losses of 1983, 1987 and 1988 cost
Georgia SEC championships - and quite
possibly a national title in 1983. Georgia
headed in at 8-0-1, having tied Clemson.
Auburn was 8-1, losing only to Texas, on
the same day (September 17) the Dogs
tied Clemson. Well, Bo Jackson was great
in Sanford Stadium. Georgia came back,
recovering an onsides kick which led
to one of Munson’s greatest ever calls
in a loss. But Auburn held on to win in
Athens. The Bulldogs would recover to
beat Tech and then topple Texas 10-9 in
the Cotton Bowl. Auburn beat Alabama to
win the SEC for the first time since 1957,
ending Georgia’s run of three straight SEC
championships.
Bitter pills.
For decades, this series was
characterized by upsets and/or road team
victories. From 1977-2001, Georgia was
a woeful 2-11 versus Auburn at Sanford
Stadium. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers in
2003 Between the Hedges, but suffered
a devastating loss to the Tigers in 2005.
Fourth down, the pass, the run, the punch
out, the fumble, the ruling, the field goal.
It was brutal.
After that game in ‘05, Auburn led
the series 53-48-8, and the cumulative
point total in the over 100 meetings was
literally a one point differential.
The next season on the Plains, a
pedestrian 6-4 Georgia team upset fifth
ranked, once beaten Auburn 37-15, and a
remarkable streak began.
Since that upset at Auburn in ‘06,
Georgia has won 17 of the last 20
meetings with the Tigers. Amazing.
That includes a 9-0 mark over this two
decade stretch on Dooley Field in Sanford
Stadium. Remember that aforementioned
2-11 mark?
This remarkable run of success in this
iconic rivalry, includes an eight game
winning streak under the watch of Kirby
Smart.
If someone would have told me this
would have happened back in my early
tween and teen years of the mid to late
1980s, I don’t think I would have believed
such a feat by Georgia would have ever
been possible.
Of all the victories, the biggest is the
one that started this eight game winning
streak for Georgia against Auburn.
Heading to Jordan-Hare Stadium ranked
No. 1 in the land in Smart’s second season
at his beloved alma mater, Georgia
jumped out to a 7-0 lead over Auburn.
But then everything went wrong for
the Bulldogs, and Auburn played an
awesome game. The Tigers took down
the Dogs 40-17. Afterwards, Tiger coach
Gus Malzahn famously - and correctly
- boasted, ‘we beat the dog crap out of
them.’
Well, Georgia would rally back to beat
both Kentucky and the Jackets to post an
11-1 regular season record.
Auburn meanwhile, two weeks after
beating its second biggest rival, the
top-ranked Bulldogs, toppled Rival No. 1,
top-ranked, undefeated Alabama 26-14
to earn a berth in the SEC Championship
Game.
After falling behind early, Georgia slowly
took control, capitalizing on turnovers
and a blocked field goal. Roquan Smith
recovered a fumble with Georgia leading
13-7. Jake Fromm found Terry Godwin for
a touchdown and two point conversion.
Then D’Andre Swift broke off a 64-yard
scoring dash for the knockout blow in a
28-7 Georgia victory.
It is one of the most significant victories
in Georgia football history, and a crown
jewel of the amazing Smart era. The
vengeance triumph clinched the Bulldogs
first SEC championship since 2005, and
put Georgia in the College Football
Playoff.
Since then, the Bulldogs have won four
straight in Athens, and three in a row at
Jordan-Hare - two of which have been
very hairy. In 2019, Georgia jumped to a
21-0 lead and held on 21-14, as freshman
Trayvon Walker had a game-clinching
sack. Two years ago, Brock Bowers had
one of his greatest performances ever,
scoring the game-winner in a 27-20
Georgia triumph.
Rivalries like the deep south’s oldest
have ebbs and flows and twists and turns.
After all, these two got it all started in
1892 at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.
Well, with 17 of 20, including the eight
straight under Smart’s watch, a series
that Georgia trailed by five after the
heartbreak of 2005, the Bulldogs now
lead 65-56-8.
That’s an incredible turn, and an
amazing accomplishment for Georgia
against an arch rival and fellow SEC
blueblood. It’s especially appreciated by
those who remember some mighty “hard
times” against those Tigers not that many
years ago.

For the 130th time, the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry reconvenes,
as the Georgia Bulldogs visit the Auburn Tigers. This is one of the
most storied series in college football history, especially in the
Southeastern Conference. After all, these two ancient foes got it all
going back in 1892 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta.
Georgia had an impressive bounce back victory over Kentucky,
defeating the Wildcats 35-14 Between the Hedges. The Bulldogs,
plagued by slow starts in the first two SEC games this season,
dating back to last year, jumped out to a 14-0 edge over Kentucky,
and led the whole way. Georgia, which struggled badly on third
down the week prior against Alabama, flipped the script and
performed well against Kentucky. The Bulldogs were 9-of-12
on third downs, while holding Kentucky to a 3-of-11. Georgia
outgained Kentucky 425 yards to 270. Quarterback Gunner
Stockton ran for two touchdowns, and threw for another, while
Dillon Bell rushed for a pair of pair scores.
The win over Kentucky marked the Bulldogs 16th straight over the
Wildcats in the series.
Auburn heads into the game with a record of 3-2, 0-2 in
Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers opened the season with
an impressive 38-24 victory over Baylor in Waco, then followed that
up with a pair of wins over Ball State and South Alabama. Auburn
had a tough draw to start league play, and dropped a pair of
heartbreakers on the road - falling 24-17 at Oklahoma and 16-10 at
Texas A&M. The Tigers had this past week off to sharpen their claws
for the Bulldogs. And after playing at Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas
A&M, they are glad to be at home for a game of this magnitude.
Quarterback Jackson Arnold is a headliner for the Tigers. The
transfer from Oklahoma has thrown for five touchdowns with no
interceptions, while running for 192 net yards. Now that includes
sack yardage. He has actually gained 321 yards and posted five
touchdowns on the ground. Arnold is a big time dual threat QB
who will test the Bulldogs defense.
Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs have won the last eight meetings with
Auburn, dating back to Georgia’s 28-7 victory over the Tigers in the
2017 Southeastern Conference Championship Game. The Bulldogs
have won 17 of the last 20 games against Auburn, beginning
with an upset win at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2006. Georgia leads
the series 65-56-8. The Bulldogs are 9-1 against the Tigers in the
incredible Smart era.
Hugh Freeze’s Tigers are hungry for what would be a signature
win. Jordan-Hare Stadium will be rocking - especially at night - in
Auburn’s biggest home game of the year thus far. The Tigers three
biggest games thus far this season have all been on the road. This
will be the first true night game at Jordan-Hare Stadium between
Georgia and Auburn since a 38-0 Bulldogs win in 2012.

KIRBY SMART (HC) - Smart owns a dominant 8-1 record
against Auburn and hasn’t lost to the Tigers since 2017. This track
record speaks volumes–his teams have outscored the Tigers
242-97 across their last seven meetings. This game will test his
ability to keep his team composed in one of the SEC’s toughest
environments. Expect Smart to lean on his defense early, test
Auburn’s front with balanced play-calling, and rely on young talent
to make the difference.

ZACHARIAH BRANCH (WR, #1) - Wideout Zachariah Branch
totaled four catches for 18 yards against Kentucky. He didn’t light
up the stat sheet, but his value extends far beyond the numbers.
His speed demands attention from opposing defensive backs,
stretching coverage and creating opportunities for Georgia’s
running game. Auburn’s secondary has shown vulnerability
against quick receivers this season, and Branch could be due for
a breakout moment. If Georgia can establish play-action early,
look for Branch to get loose on a deep shot or screen designed to
exploit his open-field ability.
NATE FRAZIER (RB, #3) - Frazier continues to emerge as one of
Georgia’s most flexible offensive weapons. His 11-yard reception
against Kentucky showcased his ability to contribute in both
the rushing and passing game. Expect Georgia to use Frazier in
creative ways–especially against Auburn’s aggressive linebackers.
His quick cuts and hands make him a natural option for swing
passes. In a game that could hinge on sustaining drives, Frazier’s
versatility could be critical.
CJ ALLEN (LB, #3) - Few players embodied Georgia’s defensive
identity against Kentucky like C.J. Allen. The linebacker was
everywhere–totaling six tackles, a sack, two tackles for a loss, and
forcing and recovering a fumble. That kind of production makes
him one of the most dangerous defenders in the SEC. Against
Auburn’s run-heavy offense, Allen’s sideline-to-sideline range and
physical tackling will be crucial. If he can disrupt Auburn’s tempo
and limit quarterback scrambles, Georgia’s defense will stay in
control. Don’t be surprised if Allen makes another game-changing
play.

Gordon Beckham, one of Georgia’s greatest baseball
players of all-time, was the 2008 SEC Player of the

Georgia had three All-American golfing greats
playing in the Ryder Cup, with both Harris English
and Russell Henley representing Team USA, and
Sepp Straka for the Europeans.
Vince Dooley led Georgia to six SEC titles, with five
of those crowns clinched at Auburn - 1966, ‘68, ‘76,

questions heading into Auburn is the status of Jordan Hall. The
defensive tackle left the Kentucky game with an injury, and his
status could significantly impact Georgia’s defensive front. Hall
has been instrumental in controlling gaps and anchoring the
line against the run. His ability to occupy blockers allows players
like Allen to attack freely. If Hall is healthy enough to play, his
presence will be key in limiting Auburn’s ground game–a staple
of their offensive rhythm.
GABE HARRIS JR. (OLB, #0) - Gabe Harris Jr. is quietly
becoming a name to remember. While his production has been
steady rather than flashy, Harris has shown consistent effort
setting the edge and generating pressure. Against Auburn’s
Jackson Arnold, Harris will be essential. Harris’ quickness off the
line and ability to disrupt timing could force mistakes and create
turnover opportunities.

field goals and extra points provides stability, especially in
close contests. Woodring’s leg strength and composure under
the pressure of loud noise at night in Auburn could be crucial,
where every point counts in a hard-fought SEC matchup. Expect
him to be called on for both long-range attempts and key

HUGH FREEZE (HC) - Freeze is coaching his third season with the
Tigers. In his first year, he nearly defeated No. 1 Georgia in front of a
sold-out Jordan-Hare. He now finds himself on the hot seat and in need
of a key win to keep his job. Billy Napier might have just saved his after
downing the Longhorns in The Swamp, so look for Freeze to try and do
the same this weekend.
JACKSON ARNOLD (QB #11) - After two seasons at Oklahoma, Arnold
transferred to Auburn this year and has been solid under center for the
Tigers. Though he has thrown for 846 yards and five touchdowns, he also
has five rushing touchdowns, making him a deadly quarterback for any
team to play against. Georgia has struggled to get quarterbacks on the

ground this season, so keep an eye on Arnold’s ability to create backbreaking
runs against Smart’s defense.
JEREMIAH COBB (RB #23) - Alongside Arnold in the rushing game is
Cobb, who leads the team with 403 rushing yards. His number has been
called on a little less over the past few weeks, but he has two 100+ yard
rushing games under his belt this year. Look for Cobb to try and be the
first running back to find success against a stifling Georgia run defense.
ERIC SINGLETON JR (WR #1) - This junior is arguably Auburn’s best
offensive player. Georgia fans should be familiar with him after he spent
his first two years at Georgia Tech and posting over 700 receiving yards
both years during his time in Atlanta. With Georgia still trying to find their
footing in the pass game defensively, Singleton could be in for a big game
as Auburn tries to pull off the upset under the lights of Jordan-Hare.

THE
Five
Georgia vs. auburn
BY: JEFF DANTZLER
1. Munson in ‘82 - Forever and always my favorite Georgia
win over Auburn came in 1982 on the Plains. The top-ranked
9-0 Bulldogs edged the 7-2 Tigers 19-14, and The Mighty Larry
Munson was at his very best. Masterful. Yes, Heisman Trophy
winner Herschel Walker of Georgia and freshman standout Bo
Jackson from Auburn were the headliners, but this game was not
on television. Unless you were there, it was all Munson. To the
Bulldog Nation, he absolutely willed us to victory. Most Dawgs
are quite familiar with the iconic Munson calls on Auburn’s last
drive, trying to break Georgia’s hearts. But Georgia held on, and
Sugar was falling from the sky. A third straight SEC championship
was clinched that magical afternoon. As an aside, at age 10, and
I’ve told this story in these pages and on the Bulldog Network
airwaves, I inadvertently had a swig of my first ever dark liquor
drink. Later that day, my parents and I went to the house of
family friends, the Bentley’s. LSU was playing at Mississippi State
on television. Heading into the day, Georgia was 5-0 in the SEC,
LSU was 4-0-1, having tied Tennessee. So even if Georgia had
lost, if LSU lost at MSU, the Dawgs would have been SEC champs.
Not that that would have been any consolation to 10-year old
me. Anyways, I was so happy that Georgia had won, and we were
enjoying a great fall afternoon in Statesboro. I have always loved
Coca Cola, it is in my blood. So I went to go take a big swig of my
dad’s coke, and it was mixed with some rocket fuel. Most likely
Wild Turkey. I recoiled in surprise and anguish. Yuck! I said. My
dad said simply, ‘that’s why you don’t drink out of other people’s
glasses.’ Even your dad’s on one of Georgia’s greatest days ever.
2. 76 ground game - The SEC championship of 1976 was
clinched in the Loveliest Village on the Plains. Georgia’s powerful
ground game, led by one of the best offensive lines in program
history, dominated the game. Running Back Kevin McLee had
a second consecutive - coming off the 41-27 comeback “Fourth
and Dumb” win over Florida - tremendous performance, and the
Dogs won 28-0. Georgia did so without completing a pass.
WAR EAGLE NOBLE!

3. Greene to Johnson - A close second to 1982 was 2002, as the
Bulldogs rallied back for a thrilling 24-21 victory that clinched
a berth in the SEC Championship Game, propelling Georgia
to the program’s first conference crown since that fateful ‘82
campaign. David Greene to Michael Johnson on fourth down
was the big play, and then the defense held. The Hilltop Grille in
Athens, home of the famous Bulldog Brunch, opened that night
incidentally. It was a long 20 years, but what a night. The Dogs of
2002 would finish 13-1 and No. 3 in the land.
4. Hoops legends of ‘80s - There were a slew of great basketball
players at both Georgia and Auburn throughout the 1980s, and
four tremendous coaches. Hugh Durham and Andy Landers
at Georgia, Sonny Smith and Joe Ciampi at Auburn. This is one
of those lists where I’m going to leave off some great names.
Amongst the best, Dominique Wilkins, James Banks, Vern
Fleming, Teresa Edwards, Janet Harris and Katrina McClain for
Georgia. Charles Barkley, Chuck Person, Ruthie Bolton and Vickie
Orr for Auburn.
5. Uga and Tiger - It is well known that Uga is the greatest
mascot in the history of the universe. But when it comes to other
famous ones in the collegiate ranks, another on the list is “Tiger,”
Auburn’s War Eagle who flies the pregame pattern throughout
Jordan-Hare Stadium before every home game on the plains.
Uga is a movie star, including an impressive showing in Midnight
in the Garden of Good and Evil. Tiger performed at the opening
ceremonies of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. My good
friend Mark Parkman, a proud Georgia graduate and die hard
Bulldog, was an executive with Olympics Broadcasting. Someone
in an Olympic Organizing meeting brought up wanting a bird to
possibly do a routine at the opening ceremonies. Even though
“Tiger” was at a rival school, Mark quickly said “I’ve got the
answer.” Sure enough, Tiger the War Eagle flew proudly in Salt
Lake City to help usher in the Winter Games of 2002.

FROM THE
INTERN
Georgia cruised to a
35-14 victory over the
Wildcats on Saturday
afternoon, marking the 16th
straight time the Bulldogs
have beaten Kentucky. Gunner
Stockton had another effective
game under center with three
total touchdowns and nearly
250 yards of total offense.
With all the preseason favorite
quarterbacks struggling to win
games for their team, Stockton
has emerged in numerous
Heisman conversations.
Though the depth chart may
not show it, Chauncey Bowens
is definitely the RB1 going
forward. With another great
showing of 15 carries and 70
yards, Bowens could be in store
for a very successful season as
the Bulldogs’ leading rusher.
The Georgia defense had their
struggles in the passing game,
but as long as points are not
being put on the board, which
they weren’t, then I think
Georgia will be fine for the time
being.
After last weekend, Kirby
Smart’s team had a choice.
They could’ve hung their heads
and let an inferior Kentucky
team force an upset scare, or
come out hot and take care
of business. Noon kicks after
a tough loss can be difficult
for a team to get up and alive
for. Give Smart and his staff
a lot of credit for getting the
Bulldogs ready and having a
no-sweat afternoon Between
the Hedges. In today’s world
of college football, you have to
keep your nose down and keep
playing through the losses, and
that’s exactly what Georgia did.
It should be clear to everyone
that the loss to Alabama will
not define this team.
Now Bulldog Nation shifts
their focus towards Hugh
Freeze and the Auburn
Tigers. It doesn’t matter what
Auburn’s record is on paper,
Jordan-Hare is arguably the
most difficult place to play in
the country. Coach Freeze is
coaching for his life down on
the Plains, and an upset win
over the Bulldogs could save
his job, at least for now. Say
what you want about the way
Freeze runs his program, but
Auburn is a lot better than
their record shows. Their only
losses of the season have been
one-score games to top ten
teams in the country, both on
the road.
The Deep South’s Oldest
Rivalry never leaves fans with
a bad experience, and I expect
this one to be a one possession
game into the fourth quarter.
Georgia is definitely the
better team, but on the road
in the SEC is anything but
a guarantee, just ask Steve
Sarkisian. I can think of so many
times where these two teams
have faced and no matter the
record, it is a slugfest until the
clock hits zero.
Hot Take of the Week:
The last time Georgia
travelled to Jordan-Hare,
Brock Bowers had a field day
against the Tigers with 157
yards on eight receptions
and a touchdown to help
the Bulldogs survive with
a 27-20 win. While Georgia
unfortunately does not have
Bowers to single-handedly
win ball games anymore, they
do have one of the most slept
on players in college football:
Zachariah Branch. When this
game comes down to the wire,
Bobo will likely rely on his
playmakers to win the game
like we saw two years ago.
I’m predicting Branch to have
over 150 yards and at least one
touchdown to help Georgia
escape Auburn with a win.
Though Branch is yet to have
over 100 receiving yards this
season, he’s well overdue for
a breakout game, and I think
it comes this weekend against
the Tigers.

My good friend Andy Burcham, the great Voice
of the Auburn Tigers, is one of the very best
broadcasters in the business. Andy is first
class in every way, and does a great job calling
Auburn football, basketball and baseball. He’s
been a contributor to the BI for many years, and
we are always grateful for his insight.
BY JEFF DANTZLER
A VIEW FROM ...
Auburn
WITH THREE OF THE
FIRST FIVE ON THE ROAD,
INCLUDING THE FIRST TWO
SEC GAMES, IT HAS TO FEEL
GREAT TO GET BACK HOME
AFTER AN OPEN DATE?
Always great to be at Jordan-
Hare Stadium. Add the fact that
it’s a night game, and that has
become especially fabulous
and the Oldest Rivalry in the
Deep South, this will be special.
WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THE
BALANCE AND DEPTH OF THE
LEAGUE?
I’m not sure the SEC has ever
been this balanced. There are
no automatic wins in the SEC
anymore. Like SEC basketball
last season, I’m not sure the SEC
has ever been this strong in
football.
WHAT WOULD A WIN OVER
GEORGIA SATURDAY MEAN
FOR THE TIGERS?
Auburn hasn’t beaten Georgia
since November 11, 2017. What
was once a very even series
has become one-sided. A win
would snap a two game losing
skid and give Hugh Freeze
a signature win against an
archrival.
WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THE
BULLDOGS?
Very good. Fabulous on
defense, as always. In spite
of the loss to Alabama, still in
contention for a playoff spot.
DID YOU LIKE THE NEW
SCHEDULING FORMAT FOR
THE SEC WITH NINE GAMES?
When the nine SEC team
schedule was announced, the
immediate speculation was
Alabama, Georgia and perhaps
Vanderbilt for the Tigers. Some
Auburn fans were hoping
for Florida or LSU. If there’s
one alteration, I would like, it
would be getting Alabama and
Georgia off the same home
schedule one year and on the
road the next.
DO YOU LIKE “THE DEEP
SOUTH’S OLDEST RIVALRY”
WHERE IT IS NOW ON THE
SCHEDULE OR NOVEMBER?
Doesn’t bother me that the
Georgia game is earlier in
the season. I realize it’s a
change from when the game
was played until recently.
Remember the first time the
two teams played was February,
in Atlanta.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR
FAVORITE BROADCAST
MEMORIES, FROM FINAL
FOURS, TRIPS TO OMAHA
AND HUGE FOOTBALL
MOMENTS?
I’ve been incredibly blessed
getting to call and be a part of
some of the biggest moments
in Auburn history for the last
35 years …the 1989 Iron Bowl,
the first ever at Jordan-Hare
Stadium; the David Ross walk
off home run at Florida State
in the 1997 NCAA Regional;
two straight Final Fours for
Auburn Women’s Basketball;
the 1997 SEC Tournament
Title when Joe Ciampi’s team
won four games in the four
days against four teams
they lost to in the regular
season; the 2010 National
Football Championship;
An unbeaten and SEC
Championship football team
in 2004; Two SEC regular
season championships, an
SEC Tournament Title and a
Final Four for Men’s Basketball;
three trips to Omaha with
Auburn Baseball including
Super Regional wins at North
Carolina and Oregon State
in the past seven years; and,
of course, getting to see my
friend Jeff Dantzler when
Auburn and Georgia get
together.

WHAT LIFE LESSONS DID YOU LEARN WHILE AT UGA?
There is a really big world out there.
WHAT PROFESSOR DID YOU ADMIRE MOST?
I’ll go with Dr. Debbie Phillips. She taught me apartments were
communities, not complexes.
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR GREATEST

Marrying my wife. I think she dumped me about seven times.
All I had to do was dump her once to end up marrying her. She’s
blessed me with two amazing children.
WHAT HISTORICAL FIGURE DO YOU MOST

This is a tough one, but I strive each day to be more like the man

My dad. He’s a true follower of the God-given mandate. His

Alabama (-3) @ Missouri | O/U 53
Saturday, Oct. 11, Noon
I want to pick Missouri at home in a dog fight with
the Crimson Tide; however, this Alabama squad has
found their groove. Ty Simpson is rolling, garnering
“best QB in the country” accusations. The Bama
defense is stout, and Kalen DeBoer is scheming
up some nice gameplans. Hunker down with the
Crimson Tide to cover -3 in CoMo.
NC State @ Notre Dame (-22.5) | O/U 62
Saturday, Oct. 11, 3:30PM
Notre Dame is fighting to keep their Playoff hopes
alive. After an 0-2 start, it must be perfect from here
on out for the Fighting Irish. In fact, with very little
marquee matchups on the remaining schedule,
Notre Dame must win in dominating fashion to sway
the CFP voters. This week, there is no question, they
will get a “statement win,” dominating the Wolfpack
in South Bend. Hunker down with the Irish to cover
the massive spread!
Oklahoma vs. Texas (-3) | O/U 42.5
Saturday, Oct. 11, 3:30PM
I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw anything in this
game. There is very little to be expected. We have yet
to see Texas click as the preseason No. 1 Longhorns
are no longer ranked thanks to a second loss on
the year in Gainesville. The offense looked abysmal
while Arch Manning seems to be fraudulent. On the
other hand, Oklahoma is without John Mateer, their
Heisman hopeful quarterback. With two struggling
offenses and two really good defenses, hunker down
with the under! In a game when we don’t know what
to expect, I’ve got a hunch for a 16-13 type of game.
Kansas @ Texas Tech (-14) | O/U 60.5
Saturday, Oct. 11, 7:30PM
Texas Tech has established themselves as the team
to beat in the Big 12. Kansas is a threat to that
hopeful title run. Jalon Daniels, the Jayhawks’ QB,
is healthy and playing with a chip on his shoulder.
While the Red Raiders defense is playing lights out,
the Kansas offense is looking to hum against the
No. 9 team in the country. Texas Tech’s offense is
nothing to trifle with either. I’m thinking of fireworks
in Lubbock! Hunker down with over 60.5 points in a
Big 12 shootout!
Michigan @ USC (-2.5) | O/U 57

The Wolverines have shown plenty of promise this
season for me to buy in. Amidst all the off the field
drama, Michigan has found their future in QB Bryce
Underwood. USC has been a team to watch as well,
but after the heartwrenching loss to Illinois, I’m not
on the Lincoln Riley’s Trojan wagon just yet. I am
on the Michigan wagon. Hunker down with the
Wolverines as they go to the Coliseum and cover the
+2.5… don’t be surprised with a Michigan win.

Saturday, Oct. 11, 7:45PM
I’m feeling cocky! Both LSU and South Carolina are
coming off bye weeks. LaNorris Sellers is feeling
healthier while Garrett Nussmeier is too. This is a
game that was circled before the season, but some
untimely losses for the Gamecocks and Tigers has
taken away the luster of this game in Death Valley.
I think LSU’s rushing problems are too much of an
eye sore to create a serious gap in this game. Hunker
down with South Carolina to cover +10.5 in Baton
Rouge!

JD’S

It’s about survival and margin for error. Undefeated teams continue to buy time,
the once-beatens strive to avoid the brink and the teams with two losses who
were considered legitimate playoff contenders are on the verge. We head into the
second week of October and there are some enormous games around the country,
most notably the Red River Shootout, where the script has flipped over the last
couple of years. Penn State is in utter shock.
1. OHIO STATE - The Buckeyes are in a groove
and the defense is playing great for the Buckeyes.
They followed up an impressive win at Washington
by taking care of Minnesota. Ohio State could have a tough
challenge Saturday, visiting Illinois.
2. MIAMI - The Hurricanes have already had a
fantastic season, especially in the eyes of longtime
fans. They have impressively taken care of both Florida
and Florida State - plus South Florida. Miami is off this
week then hosts Louisville on a Friday night.
3. OREGON - The Ducks were off this past Saturday
and got to savor their thrilling win at Penn State.
Dan Lanning, off the Kirby Smart coaching tree, has
done an outstanding job in Eugene. The Ducks get Indiana in an
undefeated battle Saturday in Autzen.
4. OLE MISS - The Rebels are rolling, and got to
savor their fantastic win over LSU this past weekend.
Ole Miss can flat out move the football and the Rebels
create negative plays on defense. Lane Kiffin’s attack turns its
attention to Washington State Saturday.
5. OKLAHOMA - Boomer Sooner is on a roll. Despite
being without QB John Mateer, the Sooners didn’t skip
a beat against Kent State. Now it’s off to Dallas for the
big battle with Texas, which has its backs to the wall. The Sooners
schedule is brutally tough.
6. TEXAS A&M - The Aggies have the makings of
a big time team. Their defense and running game
shined in a 31-9 win over Mississippi State. Texas
A&M gets rejuvenated Florida Saturday at Kyle Field, as the Gators
come in off a huge win over Texas.
7. GEORGIA TECH - The Yellow Jackets had this
past week off, and are enjoying a fantastic undefeated
start to the season. They figure to be sharp, led by
quarterback Haynes King this week, as the Jackets host Virginia
Tech. These two have played some dandies.
8. TEXAS TECH - It’s Gun’s Up for the Red Raiders,
who stand with Brigham Young as the undefeated
teams of the Big XII. Texas Tech blew away Houston
35-11 on the road, and now hosts Kansas. The Red Raiders are in a
very good spot as they dream of the CFP.
9. LSU - The Bayou Bengals had this past weekend
off, and surely that loss at Ole Miss didn’t sit well in
Baton Rouge. South Carolina heads to Tiger Stadium
this weekend as the Fightin’ Tigers aim to bounce
back. The offense is trying to find its way.
10. ALABAMA - The Crimson Tide pulled away
from tough Vanderbilt to improve to 4-1 on the
season. They have a very tough game coming up
Saturday in Columbia against the strong, undefeated
Missouri Tigers. Mizzou is a perfect 5-0 and was off this week.
11. GEORGIA - The Bulldogs had a nice bounce
back win over Kentucky, defeating the Wildcats 35-14
Between the Hedges to make it 4-1 on the campaign.
Kirby Smart is the best in the business. His Dogs will have a huge
challenge Saturday night at Auburn.
12. MEMPHIS - The Tigers absolutely pummeled
Tulsa 45-7 and now sit at 6-0 and 2-0 in the American.
Memphis, Navy and North Texas are all undefeated in
the league. The Tigers can enjoy an undefeated open date, and
head to UAB the following Saturday.

Old & In The Way
After a week of soul-searching, Georgia
football reasserted itself in a 35-14
victory over Kentucky that felt more like
therapy than a dominant performance.
Coming off the emotional sting of
the Alabama loss, this was the kind of
performance that steadied the ship and
reminded everyone that the season’s
goals remain squarely within reach. That
is especially true with the upsets in league
play this past week.
The game wasn’t about a gaudy box
score or fireworks in the passing game. It
was about leadership, toughness and a
quarterback willing to take hits in pursuit
of victory. Gunner Stockton didn’t just
guide Georgia’s offense—he embodied
the resilience that has defined the program
under Kirby Smart.
Losses under Coach Smart are rare
enough that when they happen, they tend
to echo. The defeat by Alabama a week
earlier reopened old wounds for fans and
coaches alike. It wasn’t just that Georgia lost;
it was that the Dawgs looked momentarily
ordinary. This week’s response was a test of
character as much as it was a test of talent.
The first quarter carried some nervous
energy as Kentucky hit Georgia with a quick
jab of tempo and physical running. But from
the moment Stockton lowered his shoulder
on a third-and-six scramble to move the
chains early in the second quarter, the tone
shifted.
Georgia’s offense began to rediscover
its rhythm, not through flash, but through
grit and determination. Offensive
coordinator Mike Bobo dialed back the
exotic formations and focused on physical
football—inside zone runs, tight end
motion, and quick reads that allowed
Stockton to play free and decisive.
What separated this game was the
quarterback’s presence. Gunner Stockton
looked less like a guy managing an offense
and more like a man on a mission. His
jersey told the story by night’s end—grassstained,
scuffed, and symbolic of a player
willing to sacrifice. On multiple drives,
Stockton extended plays with his legs,
ducking blitzers, taking hits, and popping
back up. His sideline interactions showed
fire; he barked
encouragement,
slapped helmets,
and rallied the
huddle after nearmisses.
His Bulldogs
responded!
There’s something
contagious about
that kind of resolve.
It doesn’t show up
in passing yards
or completion
percentages, but
it seeps into the
collective heartbeat
of a team. After
Alabama, Georgia
needed a tonesetter
more than
a stat-stuffer, and
Stockton gave them
exactly that.
The offensive
line, which had
been shuffled and
scrutinized after
the loss, took a
significant step
forward. That
allowed the running
backs to finally
get back into their
downhill rhythm.
Georgia’s run game
forced Kentucky’s

DAWGS GET BACK ON TRACK BEHIND GUNNER STOCKTON’S GRIT!
linebackers to respect the box, which
opened the middle for Stockton to hit short
and intermediate throws.
The defense, too, answered the bell.
Kentucky’s offense tried early to establish
the run behind a veteran offensive line, but
Georgia’s front seven quickly smothered
that plan. Kentucky’s few big plays came
on misdirection and desperation throws.
The secondary played disciplined football.
Kentucky found no consistent success
attacking downfield, and their frustration
boiled over with a costly unsportsmanlike
penalty late in the third quarter that
essentially sealed the outcome. It wasn’t
just that Georgia’s defense played well—it
played with pride again.
Kirby Smart’s demeanor this week
revealed everything about the state
of this program’s mental health. There
was no panic, no finger pointing, just
a quiet determination to get back to
the fundamentals that built Georgia
into a powerhouse. In his postgame
comments, Smart praised the toughness
of his quarterback and the buy-in of his
players after what could have been a
demoralizing week. For all the external
noise about Georgia’s dynasty wobbling,
the Bulldogs responded in the most Kirby
Smart way possible—with toughness,
physicality, and unity.
The defining sequence came midway
through the third quarter. Facing third and
goal at the Kentucky eight, Stockton dropped
back, scanned his reads, and saw nothing.
Without hesitation, he tucked the ball and
charged through a pair of Wildcat defenders,
spinning off one and diving headfirst toward
the pylon. He came up just short, but the
sideline erupted anyway. That play, as much as
any touchdown, captured the night’s essence.
It was about willpower, not glamour. It was
the moment every Georgia player seemed to
remember that being a Bulldog isn’t about
style—it’s about strain.
The win over Kentucky doesn’t erase the
Alabama loss, but it rebalances the season.
Georgia moves forward with renewed
confidence and a clearer sense of direction.
The offense has rediscovered its physical
core, the defense is back to dictating
terms, and Gunner Stockton has officially
cemented himself as the emotional engine
of this team.
This was Georgia football back in its
natural state: bruised but unbowed,
bloodied but better for it. The Alabama loss
may have lit the fire, but Gunner Stockton
and his teammates just doused it with
gasoline.

KEVIN BUTLER’S
PLAYERS OF THE GAME
COMPILED BY HAMILTON CULPEPPER
OFFENSIVE PLAYER
Dillon Bell - In 1979 we had Anita Ward entertaining the Dawg Nation with
“Ring My Bell” and Saturday was a true throwback as Dillon “Ring My” Bell
entertained the Dawg Nation more than anybody on the Georgia offense
Saturday versus Kentucky. Bell showed his true “throwback” form, leading the
Bulldogs in total offense with four receptions for 68 yards and two carries for
six yards resulting in two touchdowns. Dillon helped get Georgia its second
SEC win of the year. Whether it’s through the air or on the ground, Dillon’s
leadership and performance on the field inspires the other players to step up
and try to reach new heights. That’s the kind of leadership and performance
the Bulldogs will need to get through the toughest part of their schedule–
which all lies in front of them. Keep ringing the BELL Dawgs!
DEFENSIVE PLAYER
Justin Williams - Defense! Defense! The Texas native from Conroe stands a
tall 6-2 and is a big man at 220lbs. That size is complimented with SPEED!
Justin collected six tackles, four solo and two assists with one tackle for a
loss. As I mentioned, the speed that Williams has brings the full package
to the linebacker position, which has become the norm for University of
Georgia linebackers. Depth is the key to success for college football teams
now, and there’s no better position to have depth than at the linebacking
position. Williams is turning out to be a pleasant surprise. His speed will
be needed to track down Auburn‘s elusive quarterback in a huge game
this coming Saturday on the Plains.
SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER
Brett Thorson and London Humphreys - I say it all the time and it was
never more true than this week… special teams takes a team not one
person. The combination of Brett and London resulted in one of the plays
that changed the tempo of the game. Thorson’s 60-yard bomb to the
southwest corner at Sanford Stadium resulted in London Humphreys
knocking the ball out at the one-yard line. Brett, tremendous execution.
London, way to step in and make a game changing play in the role of
gunner taking over for an injured Talyn Taylor. Your focus on where the
ball was and how to stay out of the end zone gave our defense the boost
they needed to take over the game. The combination of Brett and London
certainly was a game changer this week.
UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME
The Homecoming Crowd - As pageantry goes there’s nothing finer than
a Saturday in Athens in the fall when an SEC opponent comes calling.
On Saturday versus Kentucky, the homecoming crowd was the perfect
Saturday crowd, creating the perfect atmosphere for an SEC victory. The
history of Georgia, the spirit of Georgia, the alumni of the University of
Georgia all brought magic to the atmosphere on Saturday in Athens. As
we crowned a new king and queen for the class of 2025, that atmosphere
helped the Bulldogs take a closer step to putting the crown on again as
SEC champs. It’s gonna be a hard journey, but it’s much easier at home
with the best fans in the world.

STATS THAT
MATTER
GEORGIA - 35, KENTUCKY - 14
BY: ANNA WILLIAMS/BI
A look back at what decided the game between Georgia and Kentucky.
1ST- FUMBLE RECOVERY OF THE YEAR FOR CJ ALLEN
Linebacker CJ Allen continues to be a spark for this defense.
Against Kentucky, he forced a fumble and then jumped on
it — his first recovery of the season. That kind of hustle play
is exactly what Kirby Smart preaches, and it helped swing
momentum back to the Bulldogs. Allen’s energy and tackling
will be crucial against Auburn’s run-heavy offense.
1- INTERCEPTION THROWN IN 120 ATTEMPTS – BUT
JACKSON ARNOLD HAS THROWN ZERO
Efficiency at quarterback has been a hallmark of Georgia’s
offense this season. While the team has thrown just one
interception in 120 attempts, Jackson Arnold has yet to throw
any, keeping drives alive and minimizing turnovers. Protecting
the football will be critical in the road game at Jordan-Hare,
where every possession counts.
7- STRAIGHT WINS AGAINST AUBURN
Georgia has won seven straight games against Auburn and
could make it eight if Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs hold on this
weekend. That streak underscores Georgia’s consistency in the
rivalry and shows the preparation and discipline Smart brings
to these high-stakes matchups. Every series and every play will
matter, as Auburn looks to snap that run.
34.5 POINTS PER GAME
The Bulldogs are averaging 34.5 points per game, a mark of
offensive efficiency and balance. On the other hand, Auburn
has only allowed 16.4 points per game so far. This means
the Bulldogs will need to execute cleanly and find ways
to convert opportunities into points against a stingy Tiger
defense. The numbers suggest a clash between Georgia’s
high-powered offense and Auburn’s disciplined unit.
270 TOTAL YARDS ALLOWED TO KENTUCKY
Georgia’s defense didn’t just support the offense —
it dominated. Kentucky was held to 270 total yards,
highlighting the Bulldogs’ ability to limit explosive plays
and force opponents into difficult situations. That same
defensive mindset will be tested against Auburn’s versatile
attack.
425 YARDS OF OFFENSE AGAINST KENTUCKY
Georgia’s offense showed its depth last week by amassing
425 total yards against Kentucky. The Bulldogs mixed the
pass and run to move the chains efficiently, controlling the
tempo and keeping the Wildcats off balance. Maintaining
that kind of production will be essential in a matchup with
Auburn’s athletic defense.
