Heritage park
eyes job cuts
as funding
shortfall bites
Closure ‘not an option’
BY KEES CHALMERS
Ferrymead Heritage Park is in
financial trouble and is looking
at cost cutting and possible job
losses.
The outlook comes after it
missed out on more funding
from the city council.
A recent bid for $320,000 from
the city council’s strengthening
communities fund failed on the
back of missing out in June on
$700,000 to $1.2 million a year
for the next three years as part
of the council’s Annual Plan.
Said Ferrymead Trust
chair Jackie Sutherland: “It’s
week-to-week at the moment.
We’re looking at cost cutting,
expenditure, future events, any
way to get some funds.
“It’s a case of survive, revive
and thrive going forward for the
park.”
The trust had a meeting
following the city council’s
decision to discuss its future.
Sutherland said closing was “not
an option”.
Ferrymead Heritage Park
general manager Ian France
said the lack of funding could
mean potential job losses for
current full-time staff.
“We’re looking at going into
a volunteer model, with more
volunteers running the park,”
he said.
The park currently employs
six full-time staff.
France said the park is
looking at every line item in its
expenditure to see where any
After missing out on city council
funding, Ferrymead Heritage Park
general manager Ian France said
the park will have to cut costs, with
possible job losses and a move
towards a volunteer model on the
cards.
potential costs can be saved,
and is considering some sort
of corporate sponsorship as an
alternative source of revenue.
Admission prices increased
by $5 in September. Adults
now pay $20; children between
5-15, $15.
France said the park had
received $1.5 million from the
communities strengthening
fund over the past 10 years.
“We were disappointed, a
Backlash sees police restructure scrapped
BY KEES CHALMERS
Listen to your community – that
is the message from Lyttelton
Harbour Business Association
chair Sabrina Saunders
after public backlash caused
a Canterbury-wide police
restructure to be cancelled.
Canterbury district commander
Superintendent Tony
Hill said in a
statement on
Tuesday the
proposed restructure
would not
proceed.
It would have
seen Lyttelton’s
sergeant position
cut and its
two community
liaison officers
reduced to one.
Tony Hill
That officer would have covered
all of Banks Peninsula.
Saunders said she hopes the
Lyttelton policing numbers will
now remain the same.
“I want the police to stay
where it is now with having
two on-site, I don’t think it’s
going to help the community by
reducing (police) presence in
Lyttelton.
“I think they should be taking
in community feedback,” she
said.
Police received about 1000
submissions on the proposed
restructure, which included cutting
roles and closing stations in
rural and remote communities.
Hill said the restructure could
not proceed without the buy-in
A proposed police restructure, which would have affected Lyttelton staffing numbers, has been cancelled.
of affected communities.
“Much of the feedback from
staff and the community has
been supportive. The reality
is that the proposal was not
acceptable to many of the communities
affected, and in my
view their buy-in was a critical
element in the proposal’s
success. We could not proceed
without that support.
“In reaching this decision, I
listened carefully to the concerns
and considered feedback
from the community and other
interested parties, as well as
those of police staff. There
were those who
did support the
changes and I
acknowledge
some may be disappointed,”
Hill
said.
Saunders is also
chair of Naval
Point Club in
Lyttelton. She said
one of the club’s
hoses was stolen on Friday
night, while she saw six boy
Sabrina
Saunders
racers in the streets around the
harbour on Monday evening. It
followed significant damage to
the club’s rigging lawn by joy
riders late last month. This antisocial
behaviour emphasised
the need for a police presence
in Banks Peninsula, she said.
Police Commissioner Richard
Chambers said he supported
Hill’s decision.
“I want to acknowledge the
hard work that was put into the
review by District Commander
Tony Hill and his leadership
team. Our staff are exceptional
and I am confident Canterbury
police will continue to offer an
outstanding service across the
district.”
Car crashes into pole
Two young men had a lucky
escape after their car collided
with a power pole in Sumner
on Sunday. Two units from the
Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade
were called out to the incident
at 2.47pm on Wakefield Ave.
Fire chief Daryl Sayer said it
was likely the car slid due to the
wet conditions. He said it was
extensively damaged and the
“walking wounded” occupants
were lucky not to have been more
severely injured. The incident
was attended by police, Hato
Hone St John and Orion.
Sediment testing results
An investigation into sediment
entering the Ōpāwaho Heathcote
River has concluded it is likely
to be coming from several
sources, including the erosionprone
hillsides around Cracroft
Valley. Environment Canterbury
conducted site visits, reviewed
data from ongoing consents
monitoring and analysed water
clarity results from turbidity
sensors. Its data showed that
turbidity in the catchment spikes
after heavy rainfall.
Community ‘extremely sad’
after theft of school bell
BY KEES CHALMERS
A stolen 165-year-old school bell
is believed to have been cut up
and an attempt made to sell it for
scrap.
The Heathcote Valley School
bell was stolen over the weekend
of September 27-28.
Principal Bruce Ellison said he
was told by a parent the person
involved in the theft attempted
to take the cut-up bronze bell to
a scrap metal yard, but it was not
accepted.
“It’s got a lot of significance to
the community, the fact it’s been
there for so long, it’s an iconic
piece of our identity,” Ellison
said.
Said school board member
and parent Luke Gardiner: “The
reaction is extremely sad, I didn’t
think that was something that
would happen with the amount
of years it has hung there.”
Ellison took a photo of where
the bell was usually located on
Monday, September 29, during
the school holidays. Two days
later, he looked at the photo and
realised the bell was missing.
He assumed it had been taken
over the weekend.
The bell is believed to have
been with the school since it
was founded in 1860 by Captain
William Morgan, who used part
of his Morgan’s Valley house as a
classroom.
Heathcote Valley School’s bronze bell was stolen during the school holidays.
The school was established at
its current location in 1864.
The bell, which Ellison
thought weighed about 15-20kg,
had a cast iron striker.
Many generations of children
had heard the bell signalling
it was time to go out to play or
come back into class, he said.
The school has been loaned
a small hand bell while it
determines a long-term
solution.
“I can imagine there would
be enthusiasm in replacing it with
something similar,” Ellison said.
‘No-one wants to see
the park collapse’
› From Page 1
bit surprised as well,” he said
about missing out this year.
The money would have been
used for infrastructure repairs,
which will now be delayed, and
operational costs.
City council head of
community support and
partnerships, John Filsell, said
the decision not to fund
Ferrymead was made for
a number of reasons.
“The grant funding
requested would not
have allowed the park
to remain open over
the duration of the
grant (one year) in
a manner described
in the (Ferrymead’s)
application.
“The applicant
could not demonstrate
medium to long-term
sustainability due to its
substantial reliance on
future grant funding and
unconfirmed revenue
sources,” he said.
Low revenue income
combined with high
operating costs, and an
increased number of
applicants for funding were
also factors.
France disagreed about the
long-term sustainability of
Ferrymead and said this had
not been communicated to the
park.
Yani
Johanson
Sara
Templeton
There was $3,762,107
available in the fund with the
average grant $12,000.
Fund committee chair and
Linwood Ward city councillor
Yani Johanson said Ferrymead’s
situation has not improved to
the point where it is sustainable
without significant funding.
It has received $878,000 in
council grants over the past five
years, he said.
Johanson passed a
resolution to ensure
council continue to work
with the park towards a
long-term solution and
minimise operational
costs after the local body
election next week.
“No one wants to see the
park collapse or fall over,”
he said.
Heathcote Ward
city councillor and
mayoral hopeful Sara
Templeton told The
Star she had expected
the strengthening
communities funding to
continue for the park.
Templeton was
disappointed with the
outcome but said shortterm
funding options are
not the answer for the park.
France said the park’s
situation is challenging.
“It is what it is and we’ve got
to work with that accordingly.
We are being as positive as we
can be,” he said.
How candidates
will be spending
their election day
BY KEES CHALMERS
Watching tennis, door knocking,
and relaxing at home are how
Banks Peninsula and Heathcote
Ward city council candidates
plan to spend judgement day
for the local body elections.
Only two-and-a-half days
remain for voters to decide who
will secure a seat on the next
city council.
It is a two-horse race in
both wards with former radio
host Dave Dunlay challenging
incumbent councillor Tyrone
Fields in Banks Peninsula, while
in Heathcote, People’s Choice
candidate Nathaniel Herz
Jardine faces Sumner lawyer
Ian Kearney.
Voting closes at noon on
Saturday with results expected
to arrive mid-afternoon.
As of Tuesday, five days out
from election day, 35.56% (2707)
of voters in the Banks Peninsula
Ward had returned their
election ballots – down from
41.83% at the same point in the
previous election.
Despite the drop, Banks
Peninsula still has the
highest voter turnout of all
Christchurch wards.
In Heathcote, 30.20% (6005)
of voters had cast their ballots,
compared to 33.04% at the same
stage in 2022.
Dunlay said he was planning
to take it as
easy as possible
while the votes
are tallied.
“We’ll wait
and see. I’ll
either be celebrating
with
friends or commiserating
with
friends.”
Dave Dunlay
He described
the campaign
as the longest
job interview
he has ever
done.
There will
be no rest for
Tyrone Fields,
who plans to
spend Saturday Tyrone Fields
door-knocking
and talking to residents.
Fields is seeking a second
term as a city councillor and
his fourth on the Te Pātaka o
Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula
Community Board.
“I feel well supported. I’ve
The city councillors for Banks Peninsula and Heathcote Wards will be decided on Saturday.
worked incredibly hard, so if
I don't get re-elected, then fair
play to my opponent,” he said.
He expects voter turnout to
ramp up in coming days, with
people often leaving it to the
last minute to cast their ballots.
“That’s why I just keep talking
to people all the way up until
election day,” he said.
In Heathcote, Herz Jardine
will also be out door-knocking
right up until voting closes,
before heading to a friend’s
house to eagerly refresh the city
council website in anticipation
of the results being released.
Nathaniel
Herz Jardine
Ian
Kearney
“I’m a bit tense, but optimistic,”
he said.
He feels confident his campaigning
has given him strong
support.
Meanwhile, Kearney will be
trying to distract himself from
the results as much as possible.
Luckily for him, Saturday is also
the first day of his children’s
tennis season.
“I don’t even like thinking about
it because already I’m starting to
feel nauseous,” he said.
Gravity Let Me Go
by Trent Dalton
Australia’s #1 bestselling author, returns with the astonishing story
you won’t ever forget.
How will you ever know how the story ends, if you let the story go?
Noah Cork has just published the scoop of a lifetime:
a white-hot true-crime book about the cold-blooded
Ferrymead
killer who slipped an unfolding murder mystery into his
mailbox. But if this is his moment of triumph, then why
is the tin roof being ripped from the walls of his reality?
Why are skeletons standing upright in his closet? Why do
people want to run him over in the street? And why does
his wife keep writing a cryptic message across the bathroom
mirror? As a severe storm heads towards Brisbane, Noah is
hurtling headfirst into a swirling storm of secrets. He must now cling for
dear life to the only story that ever really mattered. He must hold on to the
truth. He must hold on to the story. He must hold on to love.
Dark, gritty, hilarious and unexpected, Gravity Let Me Go is Trent Dalton’s
deeply personal exploration of marriage and ambition, truth-telling and
truth-omitting, self-deception and self-preservation. It’s a novel about
the stories we want to tell the world and those we shouldn’t, and how the
stories we keep locked away are so often the stories that come to define us.
It’s the story of a murder. It’s the story of a marriage. It’s the story of a
lifetime.
conundrum the world could throw at you (the small ones and the big ones).
After three decades working as a clinical psychologist, Nigel has found there
are just three principles you need to deal with life’s ups and downs. Whether
you want to be a better parent, build an empire or get through some tough
GP’s powerful
message with
every push-up
BY KEES CHALMERS
Howard Wilson has been raising
awareness for prostate cancer,
one push-up at a time.
He completed 739 push-ups
over September, representing the
739 men who died from prostate
cancer last year.
The 69-year-old Akaroa GP took
on the challenge to raise money
for Blue September, an initiative
that supports awareness and
research for prostate cancer.
Wilson is chair of the Akaroa
Men’s Shed Trust, which has
previously run events for the
campaign. This year, the focus
was on exercise, encouraging
participants to walk, cycle, or do
push-ups for the cause.
Having worked as a GP at
Akaroa Health for 33 years,
Wilson has seen first-hand the
importance of getting checked
before it is too late.
He decided to take on the
challenge himself, though early
practice runs in August proved
tougher than expected.
Wilson set a fundraising goal
of $1000, thinking it might be
difficult to reach.
“It’s quite a small
community over here in
Akaroa but they really
came to the party with
the donations”
Howard Wilson
He ended up raising $5972
– the fifth-highest total by an
individual nationally, and the
most by anyone doing push-ups.
“It’s quite a small community
over here in Akaroa but they
really came to the party with the
donations,” Wilson said.
“I was probably a little bit
overwhelmed by the amount.”
Wilson began posting daily
videos of his push-ups on social
media and quickly gained
support from the community.
He completed push-ups in
all sorts of places – starting
in Croatia while on holiday,
doing his first set aboard a boat
heading down the Adriatic Sea.
He later did push-ups on the
Howard Wilson completed his first set of push-ups for the Blue September
challenge aboard a boat in the Adriatic Sea while on holiday in Croatia. Once back
home, he was permitted to use the Akaroa fire station for his daily push-ups, but
only if he did the challenge shirtless and in firefighter gear.
bar at the Common Café and
Garden Bar, at the fire station, on
the front of the Akaroa Dolphins
sightseeing boat, and even 39,000
feet in the air while flying home.
“I must admit, I had great fun
while doing it,” he said.
He recalled being approached
by a complete stranger who told
him he was a prostate cancer
survivor and had donated to the
fundraiser.
Wilson hopes his efforts will
encourage more men to get
regular check-ups.
For him, the 739 push-ups
represented 739 lives that could
have been saved through early
detection and treatment.
“That’s the message we’re
trying to get across.
“A lot of men don’t bother
coming to the doctor and by the
time they’re diagnosed, it could
be quite advanced. But if they
come regularly for checks, we
can detect it early, treat it early
and essentially cure it,” he said.
Wilson said a “bulletproof”
mentality still stops many men
from seeking preventive care.
“I think we're getting there,
but it would still be relatively
unusual for a man to come for a
voluntary health check.”
He is keen to take part in the
challenge again next year, health
permitting.
Immersion
school plans
left in limbo
BY KEES CHALMERS
The city council does not have
any current plans for an 8ha
block of land in Diamond
Harbour, originally intended for
a Māori immersion school.
Linwood-based Te Pā o
Rākaihautu is the South Island’s
only kura ā iwi (a state school
mandated by local hapū or iwi).
It has been operating out of a
temporary site at the previously
closed down Linwood Intermediate.
Its conditions have caused
health and safety concerns from
school leaders.
In May 2023, the school
identified a new 8ha site near
Diamond Harbour, and last year
the city council agreed to sell the
land at the junction of Hunters
Rd and Whero Ave to Te Hapū o
Ngāti Wheke, subject to negotiations
with the Ministry of
Education.
Ministry chief executive of
school property Jerome Sheppard
said the Te Pā o Rākaihautū
board was advised in mid-August
that the ministry’s focus would
instead be on remediating the
existing Linwood buildings.
City council head of property
and facilities Bruce Randall said
it is continuing to work with
the school and Ngāti Wheke on
the situation and next steps,
including potential future
decisions by elected members.
New lakeside regional park
A new regional park will be
established on Banks Peninsula,
providing space for outdoor
recreation, and ongoing
conservation protection.
The city council was last year
offered 526ha of land at Bossu
Rd by owners Douglas and
Shay DeAngelis, who wanted
to ensure the property near
next to Wairewa/Lake Forsyth
was publicly accessible, managed
for community benefit and
protected by a conservation
covenant.
The site will be opened for
public use and managed as a
regional park called Oashore,
with a Banks Peninsula Conservation
Trust covenant created
over the property.
Douglas DeAngelis said covenants
are generally only placed
on areas that already have high
biodiversity, rather than in the
early stages of regeneration.
“The BPCT’s willingness to
hold such a covenant and the
council’s willingness to acquire
Oashore as a reserve with such
a covenant in place were the
keys to protecting Oashore in
perpetuity and guaranteeing
public access.”
City council head of parks
Rupert Bool said there were
many benefits to the purchase,
including access to natural
landscapes, indigenous
biodiversity, recreation
opportunities and cultural
heritage.
“Given the property’s high
site values, availability from a
A new regional park, Oashore, will be established on Banks Peninsula. The 526ha park will be protected by a Banks Peninsula
Conservation Trust covenant and provide ongoing recreational opportunities.
willing seller and some revenue
generation from conservationbased
grazing to help support
operational requirements, we
saw this as an asset for the
community.
“The property includes one
of the country’s most well-preserved
historic whaling sites,
the coastal headlands and
cliffs serve as sanctuaries for
native seabirds, and it offers
significant potential for natural
regeneration and restoration
initiatives.
“It is strategically located and
will provide access to some of
Banks Peninsula’s stunning
southern bays. Car parking is
yet to be established.
“In addition, it holds
important Māori pā and other
heritage sites. A significant
partnership opportunity
exists with Waiwera Rūnanga
– who have their own native
recloaking programme on an
adjacent property – to protect
and enhance important sites,
including lake health and
taonga species.”
The priorities are to
understand the cultural
heritage, biodiversity and
recreational opportunities
and develop a management
plan to support appropriate
development and access of the
reserve.
Currently public access has
not been formalised as rangers
work to ensure farm tracks,
fences, gates, grazing, signage
and carparking are suitable for
public walking.
Gunn Design: Specialists in landscape and garden design
BASED in Lyttelton, and
predominantly consulting and
building in the Christchurch and Banks
Peninsula region, Gunn Design have
been transforming outdoor living areas
and gardens for over fifteen years.
Gunn Design is a specialist landscape
design and construction company that
can take your project from the initial
design stage, through the building and
planting stages, on to the completion of
the project.
“At Gunn Design Landscape Design
and Construction, we aim to be involved
in the whole design and build process
– bringing a project right through from
initial consultation to the finished
built landscape. This process allows us
to maintain a close partnership with
our clients throughout the life of the
project,” said Tom. “We cover all aspects
of the design and build process. Our
focus is on the landscape design features
where we can add value through our
design and build skills, bringing in subcontractors
where necessary.”
Gunn Design brings design
experience, creative inspiration, plant
knowledge, an understanding of the
costs and practicalities associated
with landscape construction, and an
unbiased eye to your property.
In addition to planting, the overall
landscape design can feature garden
structures such as decks, water features,
lighting, seating and pergolas.
“Among the things to consider when
designing your garden are colour,
contrast, texture, form, scale, balance,
light, and pattern. And importantly,
budget. A good garden design will
consider your needs and wants, the built
structures that are on your property,
and the local environment in which you
are situated,” said Tom.
“There are many types of plants and
people often have strong views over
what they like and dislike. Choosing
a style of planting that suits you and
your particular garden situation is
important,” said Tom. “Planting can be
combined to frame views and to create
shade, shelter and privacy. Both native
and exotic plants have a place in our
garden design.”
Whether it’s updates to an
existing garden, or creating a new
garden from scratch, Gunn Design
is ready and able to get your new
Cricket seasons to get under way
after rain ruins opening weekend
BY KEES CHALMERS
It will be a new-look Peninsula Harbour
side as six players are set to debut in their
opening game of the Country Premier
season against Pleasant Point.
The one day match will be played at
Pleasant Point Domain at 12.30pm on
Saturday.
The debutants are Ben McAlister, Jackson
Hodgkinson, Finn Sullivan-Roberts, Chester
Oldfield, and Liam Eastwick.
The opportunity has come about following
the departure of several players and
the unavailability of player-coach Tim
Gruijters, whose partner is expecting a
baby.
“It’s really good for the club to get all
those young guys coming through,” said
Peninsula captain David Neal.
Their opening game, scheduled for
last Saturday, was cancelled due to wet
weather.
“It was pretty frustrating because we
have had a good preseason, but we’re fizzing
and ready to go this week,” Neal said.
Black Cap Henry Nicholls was set to play
last week but is unavailable this weekend
due to commitments with Canterbury.
This will be Pleasant Point’s first game in
the Canterbury Country Premier competition,
having previously played in South
Canterbury.
"It should be a good challenge,” said Neal.
Neal said getting off to a good start will
be key to building momentum for the
season.
“It's important to get the wins under the
belt and build some confidence,” he said.
He hopes Peninsula can qualify in the
top four again this year and redeem their
grand final loss to Ohoka/Harrison Bloy in
March.
Runs at the top of the order from
experienced batters Tim Petrie and Ben
Aveyard will be crucial, as will early
wickets from young fast bowlers Baxter
Croad and Ben McAlister, Neal said.
Heathcote’s opening two day match
against Lancaster Park has
been reduced to a one-day,
100 over game after last
weekend’s weather.
The first ball will be
bowled at 10.30am on
Saturday at Heathcote
Domain.
Former Otago paceman Tyler Lortan
Travis Muller will make his
debut for the club, alongside young fast
bowler Oscar Anderson.
“There’s a great energy amongst the
squad and there’s some guys that are
really fizzing to get going,” said playercoach
Tyler Lortan.
He said a win on Saturday would
be an important early marker for the
season.
“Last year we played some good cricket
but couldn't get on the right side of a result,
so how we start the season is crucial.”
MOTORING
Value for money
meets muscle in
LDV’s newest ute
Motoring with Bob Nettleton
Great Wall Motors (GWM these
days) and LDV were among the
first Chinese ute makers to test
our market 15 years ago, but as
newcomers, sales success was
hard to come by.
Since then, GWM has made
more of an impact, thanks to its
Cannon ute, which has built a
solid following on affordability,
modern styling, and generous
equipment.
LDV’s first ute arrived in 2017
in the form of the T60. It wasn’t
a convincing debut, and being
the new kid on the ute block
made things tougher still.
Recognition and buyers were
slow to come, unsurprising in a
market so loyal to Ford Rangers
and Toyota Hiluxes.
While it never shone in sales,
the T60 did stand out in safety,
becoming the first Chinese ute
to earn a five-star ANCAP crash
rating. A 2022 update added
sharper styling, more gear, and
extra safety tech.
For context, LDV is a division
of SAIC (Shanghai Automobile
and Industrial Corporation),
China’s largest and oldest
automaker.
SAIC sold around five million
vehicles in 2024, ranking it
among the world’s top 10
producers.
One of its smartest moves
was buying LDV in 2009, the
former light commercial arm of
Leyland DAF. That deal brought
with it the V80 van platform,
newly developed at the time for
Europe and Asia. Today, vans
still make up most LDVs sold
here.
New models are on the
way, including the secondgeneration
D90 SUV, which
I saw in Australia recently.
Rating out of 10: Performance 7, Handling 6, Build Quality 7, Comfort 6, Space 7, Styling 7, Fuel Economy; on road
test average consumption 8.9L, Value for money 6.5, Safety, ANCAP crash rating, not tested yet.
Price: $55,990
Overall points out of 10: 6
It’s under evaluation for our
market, though a decision
appears some way off.
In the meantime, LDV has
added a flagship ute – the
$55,990 T60 MAX Plus. It’s the
priciest T60 yet, especially
when you consider the entrylevel
Elite and mid-range
Lux are on special at $34,990
and $39,990. All are backed
by a seven-year/200,000km
warranty.
With bold styling, dual
screens, and rugged appeal,
the MAX Plus is pitched at
buyers after something a little
different.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre
bi-turbo diesel (Euro V), which
is a bit noisy and less refined
than its Japanese rivals. Still,
its 160kW and 500Nm provide
ample muscle for road or offroad
work.
Cruising is easy, overtaking
effortless, and with an 8-speed
automatic, 3-tonne braked
towing, and four-wheel drive,
the T60 is capable of handling
most tasks.
The transmission isn’t
flawless, showing the odd
hesitation, and the steeringcolumn
gear selector feels
awkward in a ute.
The cabin is spacious, though
the lack of telescopic steering
adjustment makes it harder for
taller drivers to get comfortable.
Controls are logically laid
out, and cabin trim has been
upgraded, with cheaper plastics
now hidden in less obvious
places.
Features include wireless
phone charging, 18-inch black
alloys, heated synthetic leather
seats with power adjustment,
keyless entry, push-button start,
dual 12.3-inch displays, Apple
CarPlay, Android Auto, and a
360° camera.
Practical touches include a
spray-in tub liner, tie-down
points, a tailgate assist, and a
lockable cargo area.
On the safety front, LDV
provides a strong list: lane keep
assist, adaptive cruise control,
and autonomous emergency
braking.
One glaring omission is blindspot
monitoring, which would
be especially useful in a vehicle
this size.
Double-wishbone front
suspension, electric power
steering, and selectable steering
modes (Standard and Sport)
give the T60 decent ride comfort
and tidy handling.
Steering is light, though
short on feel, and while bumps
are absorbed competently,
rougher surfaces do bring out
some suspension noise. A light
cross-country test – muddy and
uneven farm tracks – posed no
difficulty.
Overall, the T60 MAX Plus is
a well-equipped, value-driven
ute that shows how far LDV has
come. It’s far from perfect, but
plays the value card strongly
and offers plenty of kit for the
money.
