Many people talk about fixing education. Very few

actually step into the fire and try. When

Dr.Education Group, he was not just inheriting a

name, he was stepping into a system full of pressure,

resistance, and impossible expectations. Outdated

teaching models. Students stuck between dreams and

degrees. A country with talent but not enough platforms to

turn that talent into leadership.

Instead of settling for what worked in the past, he chose to

ask tougher questions. What kind of education builds realworld

leaders? How do we balance marks with mindset?

Can a university become a place where innovation feels

natural, not forced?

What followed was not overnight success. It was years of

deliberate decisions, team- building, and relentless

curiosity. Today, under his leadership, Galgotias is more

than a group of institutions, it is a movement. A place where

students are trained to think, question, and create. Where

coding labs sit next to art rooms, and startup pitches are as

common as final exams.

Dr. Dhruv believes that India's youth does not need

shortcuts. They need structure, purpose, and the freedom

to explore. And that is exactly what he has built, a learning

environment that respects both discipline and imagination.

What makes his journey powerful goes beyond the scale of

transformation, it lies in the intention behind every step. He

never chased titles or followed trends. Instead, he focused

on solving the problems that others overlooked.

In a world full of noise, his approach stands out for its

clarity, equipping students with the courage to lead, the

skills to build, and the values to last. That is the kind of

change education needs. And that is the kind of leader Dr.

Dhruv Galgotia continues to be.

Let us learn more about his journey:

Strategic Leadership and Vision

Dr. Dhruv leads Galgotias University with a clear and

forward-looking vision. He recognises that the integration

of technology, skill development, and education is

essential in forming responsive academic environments.

As artificial intelligence, automation, and machine learning

reform industries, the university under his guidance

continuously updates its curriculum and teaching

methodologies to stay ahead of the curve.

His commitment extends beyond producing technically

proficient graduates. Dr. Dhruv focuses on developing

learners who possess the mindset and tools for lifelong

learning. He works closely with industry leaders, regulatory

bodies, and local institutions to ensure that academic

programs remain aligned with progressive market

requirements.

His leadership prioritises both intellectual integrity and

character development, embedding values at the heart of

academic success. This approach fosters graduates who

are prepared not only for professional challenges but also

for meaningful engagement in society.

NEP 2020: Driving Reform through

Institutional Change

Dr. Dhruv's detailed analysis of the National Education

Policy 2020 frames education as the catalyst for India's

next phase of transformation. In his words, it is the “true

alchemy of India's next golden age." He sees NEP 2020 as

more than reform; it is a roadmap that promotes

institutional restructuring, multidisciplinary learning, and

entrepreneurial thinking.

He draws attention to the country's demographic strength,

with 90 crore citizens under the age of 35, and the urgent

need for educational systems to evolve accordingly. He

actively supports the NEP's focus on incubation, skilling,

and teacher education reform. At Galgotias, dedicated

skilling centres and innovation hubs are already in motion,

aligned with the objectives of the Atal Innovation Mission

(AIM).

NEP 2020 led to the creation of AIM with the vision of

nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship across the

country. Dr. Dhruv recognises the importance of AIM's

business incubation centres, which are designed to

support dynamic entrepreneurs and scalable ideas. He

acknowledges that while many start-ups are rooted in

innovative thinking, they often falter due to gaps in

managerial expertise and financial planning. Incubators

play a pivotal role in bridging this gap by providing

guidance, helping optimise capital usage, and laying a

strong foundation for sustainable growth.

Education Leaders Insights | 01/ 2025 | EduSkills 04

The Atal Incubation Centres (AICs), a core element of this

mission, provide incubated ventures with state-of-the-art

infrastructure, expert mentorship, financial aid, industry

partnerships, collaborative workspaces, and access to

labs and networks. Dr. Dhruv has ensured that Galgotias'

incubation ecosystem mirrors this vision, supporting the

emergence of high-impact ventures that align with national

priorities.

He also welcomes the NEP's emphasis on global

outreach. He highlights India's initiatives such as IIT

expansions in the UAE and Africa as important milestones.

Through platforms like the National Educational

Technology Forum, Research Culture and Patent

Leadership he supports the integration of evidence-based

technologies in teaching and assessments, reinforcing the

importance of adaptive and modernised learning

ecosystems.

Introduction

In the developing landscape of Indian higher education, Dr.

Dipankar Sarkar has emerged as a distinctive voice and

agent of change in technical education. Serving as the

Principal of Dream Institute of Technology (DIT) since

2007, he has led the institution from a modest campus in

South 24 Parganas to a nationally recognised hub of

innovation, access, and academic excellence. This

narrative traces his contributions under the thematic pillars

of Voices, Vision, and Victory, and reflects the initiatives

that define transformative leadership in the context of selffinanced

technical institutions.

Voices: Reimagining the Purpose of

Technical Education

Dr. Sarkar began his career with an unwavering

commitment to educational equity. An alumnus of IIT Delhi,

he could have pursued global opportunities but chose

instead to return to grassroots India to address the

disparities in access to STEM education. When he took

charge of Dream Institute of Technology in 2007, he

prioritised building an inclusive institutional culture over

infrastructure expansion.

He consistently advocated that “students are not our

customers; they are our responsibility.” This philosophy

reshaped DIT’s institutional framework. He introduced

remedial learning programs, bridge courses, and facultyled

mentoring cells to support students, particularly those

from rural and first-generation backgrounds. He also

institutionalised gender sensitivity mechanisms, including

grievance cells and workplace safety standards, resulting

in a 5-star Safe Campus rating from AIRCL in 2020.

Dr. Sarkar positioned himself not only as an administrator

but as an accessible academic leader, maintaining an

open-door policy and personally intervening in matters of

student welfare. He maintained that academic failure

should be treated not as an individual issue, but as an

institutional gap to be addressed. Under his guidance, DIT

became an area where student voices were recognised as

central to governance, curriculum, and assessment

reforms.

Vision: Strategic Transformation and

Alignment with National Priorities

With a long-term institutional vision, Dr. Sarkar led DIT

through a comprehensive transformation in teaching,

learning, and governance, aligning closely with India’s

educational policy reforms.

In 2010, he pioneered the implementation of Outcome-

Based Education (OBE) across departments, long before

its mandatory rollout. He further led the development of the

DIT Knowledge Lab, a fully functional Moodle-based

Learning Management System that enabled real-time

content delivery, evaluation, and course outcome

mapping. This platform proved realistic in

In 2010, he pioneered the implementation of Outcome-

Based Education (OBE) across departments, long before

its mandatory rollout. He further led the development of the

DIT Knowledge Lab, a fully functional Moodle-based

Learning Management System that enabled real-time

content delivery, evaluation, and course outcome

mapping. This platform proved realistic in maintaining

academic continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic, as

over 90% of students transitioned seamlessly to digital

learning under his preparedness model.

Anticipating the rise of innovation-driven education, he

secured a ₹65 lakh DST grant in 2012 to establish an

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre

(IEDC). The centre enabled students to start up, prototype

development, interdisciplinary research, and patent filing.

By 2024, DIT had facilitated over 20 patents, many of

which were filed by undergraduate teams.

Dr. Sarkar also forged strategic partnerships with Texas

Instruments, IIT Virtual Labs, and industry bodies like

IEEE, CSI, and IET. These collaborations were

operationalised through faculty development programs,

internships, industry lectures, and research opportunities,

thereby institutionalising the industry-academia bridge.

He introduced the MATLAB Campus Agreement as part

of a strategic software expansion initiative, making

Dream Institute of Technology the only private

engineering college in West Bengal to be fully funded

for establishing a dedicated MATLAB Lab. This facility

gave students access to a world-class computing

environment for real-time simulations and modelling,

particularly in electronics, signal processing, and control

systems. It positioned DIT as a serious contender in

innovation-driven pedagogy.

Further strengthening the bridge between academia

and industry, Dr Sarkar led DIT to become the first

institute in West Bengal to align with EduSkills, a nonprofit

committed to building India’s Industry 4.0-ready

digital workforce. Through this partnership, students and

faculty gained access to corporate-level curriculum, virtual

internships, and certifications through strategic

collaborations with global technology leaders, including

Juniper Networks, Palo Alto, Celonis, Amazon, Blue

Prism, UiPath, Cisco, Bentley, Microchip, etc. This

initiative created direct industry exposure for students and

added real-world value to classroom instruction.

He took an active role in aligning DIT with the National

Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting interdisciplinary

credit models, hybrid classrooms, and digital-first

pedagogy. His leadership ensured DIT's reputation as an

early adopter of NEP-aligned practices in West Bengal.

institution. Under his mentorship, numerous faculty

members have either completed or are currently pursuing

their PhDs. He believes in leading by example,

encouraging collaborative research, and ensuring

institutional support for academic publishing, patent filing,

and interdisciplinary R&D.

His emphasis on student empowerment resulted in

consistent placement records, alumni entrepreneurship,

and representation in global graduate programs. Many

students from low-income or vernacular-medium
