‘Twas the night before Christmas
and all ‘round the house, Bugs were stirring,
YES!
EVEN A MOUSE
For days they’d watched as with laughter and glee,
The children had covered a beautiful tree-
With baubles and crackers now with lights all aglow,
Glittering and dazzling what a beautiful show.
When all was quiet, everyone fast asleep,
Out from the shadows the bugs now did creep.
They needed to check out this glorious sight
On this wonderful,
fabulous,
amazing night.
On the mantelpiece stockings were hung carefully,
With cookies and milk left for Santa to see.
A carrot of course took pride of place
For Rudolph to munch as he led this great race-
Comet, Cupid, Do nner and Blitzen;
Leading Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
For with Santa seated on
the back of his sleigh,
Task: deliver each present
before break of day.
With Oooh’s and Ahhh,s! the bug’s giggled with glee
At the presents surrounding the Christmas tree:
“But Why?” asked a little inquisitive voice,
“Is it somebody’s birthday?
‘Cos there’s so many toys.”
“Ah,” said Grandma” Come sit, I’ll tell you the reason,
I’ll tell you about that first Christmas Season.”
The bugs scurried closer, then by the firelight glow,
Grandma told them the story of that day long ago.
“Now the night was dark and the air was still,
And in Bethlehem’s stable bare,
No movement just the sound of sleep
From the creatures living there;
For in each corner, in each crevice,
From rafters hanging down,
Were bugs, God’s small creations
Some moving in silence without a sound:
Then said a beetle to a spider;
“There’s something special going on,
There’s new straw in the manger,
And all night a Bright Star has shone.”
“It’s moved across the sky
And now it’s standing up above,
Above our little smelly stable,”
“Don’t you know?”
said a Snow White Dove.
“Don’t you know that coming down the road
On a donkey moving slow,
Is a beautiful young lady;
Shhh! quiet, they’re down below.”
You see, a man whose name was Joseph
Led his wife Mary so lovingly,
Settling her on a bed of straw
Where she waited patiently-
Until suddenly everyone awoke,
The Donkey, Ox and Ass,
The sleepy Ugly Bugs woke too,
Then said a Caterpillar,
“What’s the fuss?”
A Ladybird, Spider, Dragonfly,
Each bug and animal gathered ‘round,
Some crawling into the bed of straw
As they suddenly heard a sound,
A sound of crying from the manger,
The sound of crying from The Baby King,
Then the place was filled with sounds of Love
As Herald Angels began to sing;
They sang a Hallelujah Chorus,
Joy and laughter filled the air;
Even Shepherds from the hillside came
To take part in this Great Affair.
Wise Men too were following
The Bright Star in the sky,
That would lead them to The Christ Child,
The Lord Jesus, that Baby Boy.
Now as the revelries continued,
Even the Bugs began to sing,
They sang and sang and buzzed with joy
At the Love this Child would bring.
And Mary cradling
her New Born Babe,
Gently began to sing
A sweet lullaby,
whilst caressing
Emmanuel,
the New Born King.
Then sleepily, everyone began to yawn
And crawl away as quietly as able,
Their hearts filled with Joy and Love and Awe,
After witnessing that Miracle in their Stable.
Come now my Little Sleepy Heads,
It’s time you too were in your beds.
You’ve heard the story, now you know,
So quietly, quickly, off you go.”
But as they moved, there arose such a clatter
Causing Bugs and Mouse to make haste and scatter.
“Oh no!” they cried “What can that be?”
But Granny just chuckled for she knew you see,
That up on the rooftop in the moonlight glow,
Stood a sleigh and nine reindeer in the glistening snow;
And with sack on his back and a HO! HO! HO!
She knew Jolly St Nicholas down the chimney would go.
“WOW!”
They all cried as they stared wide eyed
At each other as they suddenly realised,
They needed to scamper, they needed to scurry,
And get to their beds in a great big hurry.
“But Grandma, if I hang my stocking by the tree
Do you think Santa would visit me?”
Said a Tiny Bug: Then with a loving
WINK,
“Of course,” said Grandma.
‘NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?
HOORAY! IT’S CHRISTMAS
Why not join Little Mouse and his Bug Buddies, as they
experience the wonder and excitement of Christmas.
Find out what happens when one of the little friends,
after seeing so many toys and presents, sparkly lights,
and even stockings hanging from the mantelpiece,
suddenly asks the question, “Why?”
Granny to the rescue, she knows the answer.
Gathering the eager little friends together, she shares with
them the reason for this fabulous, amazing season, as she tells
them the Miraculous Story, of ‘The Very First Christmas’.
