Ryan Puglisi is obviously a talented athlete, being the best in

the state of Connecticut in both football and baseball as a high

school senior. He got the highest of marks as a baseball player

(pitcher, shortstop) andwas a highly regarded quarterback in

football.

He chose to play football and is working to hone his

quarterback skills with the greatest of due diligence. He is a

redshirt freshman.

A well-rounded individual, he sees baseball as a Plan B

option for him if his football goals were not to materialize, but

right now, he is focused on quarterback development.

With all his athletic abilities, don’t forget that he is a good

student with math being his favorite subject. In addition, his

hero dating back is Tom Brady, the New England quarterback.

How could he have a better role model? He likes cheeseburgers

and has three dogs—Anna, Blue, and Nala.

His sports highlight to date was when his mom, Meaghan

Puglisi, sang the national anthem on senior night at Avon

Hold Farms High School, where he matriculated.

FROM THE

EDITOR

VANCE LEAVY

EDITOR IN CHIEF

It was one for the ages on the Plains at Auburn, but

now the Dawgs must reload and ‘Smoke the Rebels!”

Borrowing from the late, great sportscaster and Georgian,

Keith Jackson … “Whoa Nellie” it was an absolutely

barnburner on the Plains this past Saturday evening.

This version of The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry had it all …

Auburn’s offense absolutely dominated the first half only to

fumble on the goal line with an opportunity to take the score to

17-0 just before halftime. Without question everyone watching,

whether in Jordan-Hare Stadium or on television, witnessed

possibly the longest replay ruling in the annals of all of football.

Dawgs ball and then the fun began for everyone who loves the

Red and Black … Auburn 10 Georgia 3 at halftime.

The second half was all Bulldogs as the Georgia defense flexed

their muscles and the Gunner Stockton led offense sliced and

diced Aubie much to the delight of the barking Bulldog fans in

attendance.

“Whoa Nellie’” … Georgia 20 Auburn 10 … How ‘Bout Them

Dawgs!!!

While Auburn fans will forever chirp about the awful officiating,

I completely agree with the SEC Network’s Chris Doering in his

post game commentary. However you look it, the fact is War Eagle

failed to respond to the said zebra adversity. And our Dawgs did

just the opposite. What a win for the good guys from Athens!

Despite the thriller on the Plains, our team and its incredible

fan base must now turn the page because guess what another

dynamic SEC team is up next on the Gauntlet Express.

The success that Lane Kiffin has had in Oxford certainly deserves

high praise. Ole Miss now expects to win every game they play.

And a ton of that battle mentality was earned last November

when the Rebels gave our Bulldogs a sound whipping. The goal

posts game down in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and were

marched all the way to The Square. I was there and it was college

football jubilation at its best.

Unfortunately for the Rebel Nation, a disastrous loss to the not

so Mighty Gators two weeks later in Gainesville ended up costing

Ole Miss a spot in the College Football Playoff.

I don’t bring this up to taunt Coach Kiffin and his team. Instead

I mention it because I firmly believe the Ole Miss football

program continues to grow (with each game) into a true national

contender in college football.

While this cover of BI says “Smoke the Rebels,” I certainly don’t

think our Dawgs will hang 52 points on Kiffin’s squad like they did

the last time Georgia and Ole Miss teed it up in Sanford Stadium

(2023).

There are two reasons …

Number one, through sound use of the portal and NIL, Coach

Kiffin has transformed both of his lines of scrimmage into

stout units. And combine that with the additions of plenty of

playmakers at the skill positions, the current Ole Miss team is

100% legit.

The second reason is a really easy one unless you haven’t been

watching college football this season. Each week, more and

more games are going down to the wire with unreal finishes. It’s

awesome for college football fans and cardiologists, but not so

fun for college football coaches, who know better than anyone

the agonies of defeat. Just ask former Penn State head coach,

James Franklin.

This issue of BI will get you ready for the Ole Miss game. As

Jeff Dantzler says every week, ‘’just give me a one point win.”

Although smoking the Rebels would be just fine too!

On the sports side, make sure to read JD’s column on page

10. He was absolutely honored to yet again emcee the Evening

in the Endzone event in Atlanta last week that benefits the

Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. As you will read, it was an

absolute Who’s Who of honorees and attendees for the evening’s

celebration. BI intern Anna Williams is back with another clever

From the Intern column on page 19. The Five Stages of being a

Bulldog Fan are so real, particularly of late. Also, don’t miss Greg

Poole’s Old and In the Way piece on page 68. Greg nails how our

Dawgs were able to methodically tame the Tigers for a ninth

consecutive time. Finally, Loran Smith is back in this issue with a

sports column (page 64). Without a doubt, the Georgia Basketball

men’s program is in great hands with head coach Mike White. First

tip is less than a month away and the expectations are that our

Hoop Dawgs will take another step forward in the 2025/26 season

… Woof, Woof, Woof!

In our social section, all our home game issue franchises are

back in this issue. All three of our featured participants share a

common theme. Each person exudes upbeat personalities. In

Georgia Girls (pages 26, 27), enjoy getting to know Athenian

Susie Mobley. Susie has turned her love of traveling to Italy

into a business. And I couldn’t agree with her more about her

admiration for Athens restaurateur extraordinaire Peter Dale.

Current UGA Alumni Association president Corey Dortch is

busting out some incredible tracks in our MIXTAPE installment

(page 28). Nice job, Corey! And finally, our Proust Q&A participant

Paul Carling is such a happy fella. Enjoy what his Kindergarten

teacher had to say about him as a young lad.

On pages 57-60, Hamilton Culpepper updates our readers on

the incredible growth of The Fight Against Suicide organization.

It is so amazing that UGA Sigma Chi fraternity brothers (now

alumni) created this terrific cause. And don’t miss fan photos

galore from Auburn that start on page 28. What a weekend and

win on the Plains!

Wow, I have written almost 1,000 words after being in Auburn

for three nights. My time and space allowed tells me I must bid

farewell, so let’s pack Sanford early on Saturday and ‘Smoke the

Rebels!’ … Go Dawgs!!

Allstar group gathers and are recognized at Evening in the

End Zone benefiting the Georgia Lighthouse Foundation!

Last week, on Tuesday, October

7, the annual Evening in the

End Zone ceremony was held in

downtown Atlanta at the College

Football Hall of Fame. The Georgia

Lions Lighthouse Foundation is the

beneficiary, and over $500,000 was raised

for eyecare for children, the uninsured

and underinsured. A $100 gift by the

way gets two kids a pair of glasses. The

celebrity chairmen of the event are the

incomparable Gary Stokan, chairman of

the Chick Fil A Peach Bowl and a titan

of college football, and the legendary

Georgia Bulldogs Hall of Fame record

setting All-American Kevin Butler.

Amongst the award winners were

Southeastern Conference Commissioner

Greg Sankey, the absolute best league

boss in all of sports, and three-time

Bulldog All-American David Pollack.

Pollack, who famously wore number

47, is this year’s recipient of the Gary

Stokan Hero of the Gridiron Award.

One of the greatest players in Georgia

history, Pollack is a member of the

College Football Hall of Fame and was

the second Bulldog to earn All-American

honors three times, from 2002-2004,

joining Herschel Walker, who did it

from 1980-1982. Brock Bowers joined

that illustrious crew during his amazing

career from 2021-2023. At his side was

David’s courageous wife Lindsey, who

underwent a craniotomy in April to fight

brain cancer. She is doing great and looks

fantastic.

Commissioner Sankey is the

2025 recipient of the Vince Dooley

Visionary Leadership Award. The best

commissioner in sports, accompanied

by his wife Cathy, delivered a typically

outstanding speech and continues

to navigate the league with great

strength and prosperity through an

unprecedented - to say the least - era of

collegiate athletics.

Amongst the past winners of these

prestigious awards are Governor Brian

Kemp, Herschel Walker, Billy Payne,

Danny Wuerffel, Kevin Butler himself,

and P.R. mastermind Bob Hope, who

rose to great fame during Henry Aaron’s

pursuit of Babe Ruth’s Home Run Record.

Coach Dooley, legend, also won the Vince

Dooley Award, which I always thought

was great. If the award is named for

someone, it’s only right that they won it.

Hey, Cy Young never won the Cy Young

Award. It came around long after his

career was finished.

It was my distinct honor to serve as the

Master of Ceremonies for the event. The

first couple of times I performed those

duties I begged and pleaded with Gary

for one of those Bowl Rep sportcoats. I

always loved those things since I started

working in press boxes. I’d always look

to see what bowls were there to watch

Georgia play, and thought the blazers

with the colors and logo of the bowl were

very cool. Well, two years ago, Mr. Stokan

surprised me with a Peach Bowl blazer.

It was one of the greatest gifts I ever

received. In fact, Governor Kemp laughed

and said to me, “JD, you wear that thing,

you can get into any game and any place

you want.”

So I wore the jacket last year, when Billy

Payne received the Vince Dooley Award. I

mentioned how much I loved my gift, and

said that since my pleas worked for the

Peach Bowl Blazer, that Mr. Payne, there’s

another jacket that I’d sure like to get my

hands on.

He laughed. I’m still waiting on my

Green Jacket from Augusta. But since the

current Chairman Fred Ridley is a Florida

graduate, I’m not optimistic.

So this year, I openly pleaded for

my dream job, as I was introducing

Commissioner Sankey, and said I had the

full support of Governor Kemp, University

of Georgia President Jere Morehead, J

Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh

Brooks, and Coach Kirby Smart. That job

is to be the head replay review official for

every Georgia Bulldogs football game.

Every Bulldog in the audience seemed to

agree that I would do a helluva job.

A job I would not want would be one of

the most important responsibilities that

Commissioner Sankey has, and that is

putting together the schedule for all the

sports - especially football.

Hey, all you have to do is keep 16

extraordinarily passionate fanbases 100%

happy 100% of the time. No problem,

right?

Being in the sports talk business, talking

about how old uniforms were better and

how to set up schedules is an easy way to

fill a show.

With the new nine-game conference

schedule going into effect next season

in the SEC, every school will have three

permanent opponents, and rotate the

other six games amongst the other 12

teams. There will be two meetings with

those dozen teams over a four year

period, so every four year player - yes

there are still some out there - can say

they played a home and road game

against every other school in the league.

As Georgia’s Associate Athletic Director

for External Affairs Alan Thomas pointed

out, Commissioner Sankey did a great job

of not getting “too far ahead” with the

schedule. Texas and Oklahoma came in,

everyone had the same schedule for 2024

and 2025, just flipping the home and

away. And the new format is set for the

next four years. We’ll see how everyone

likes it.

One final note, Derek Dooley, in honor

of his father, presented the award to

Commissioner Sankey and talked about

his first meeting with him. It was at the

league’s head coaches meeting. The SEC’s

previous commissioner Mike Slive, who

was also tremendous and a great guy,

Derek joked, with the likes of Nick Saban,

Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier and Mark

Richt in the room, that it would a good

idea to have his understudy, Associate

Commissioner Sankey go ahead and

handle that meeting.

It reminded me of a story Coach Dooley

once told Andy Landers and yours truly

on a basketball trip. He and Doug Dickey

of Tennessee were both in their early 30s

and both began their careers with the

Bulldogs and Volunteers in 1964. He said

that meeting with the likes of Johnny

Vaught, Bear Bryant and Shug Jordan

yelling at each other about “recruiting

improprieties” was quite terrifying. Coach

Dooley then said, “Dickey and I kind of

backed and slouched away, and then they

started yelling at us ‘don’t you two try and

play innocent, you young *&**%$&((ers

are cheating too!”

At that point, Coach Dickey and I looked

at each other,’ Coach Dooley recounted,

and said ‘what in the world have we

gotten ourselves into?!’

Nothing like SEC football.

GEORGIA VS OLE MISS

BY: JEFF DANTZLER

The stage is set for a top 10 Southeastern Conference mega

showdown Saturday Between the Hedges, as the undefeated Ole

Miss Rebels tangle with once beaten Georgia.

Ole Miss heads into the game with a record of 6-0, 3-0 in

Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs are 5-1, and 3-1 in the

league, losing only to Alabama on September 27, a setback that

ended Georgia SEC record home winning streak at 33 in a row.

Both the Bulldogs and Rebels are coming in off heart stopping

victories a week ago. Ole Miss, which had an open date following

a tremendous 24-19 victory over old rival LSU, was favored by 32

points against Washington State, and escaped Oxford with a 24-21

win over the Cougars. Were the Rebels looking ahead to Georgia?

Probably so, but in the end, Ole Miss got the win.

Georgia was being thoroughly dominated by ancient foe Auburn

in the first half, trailing 10-0 and being outgained by over 200 yards.

But the Bulldogs forced a fumble late in the first half, and turned the

tables, completely flipping the script in the second half. The Bulldogs

scored 20 unanswered to win 20-10, securing a ninth straight victory

over Auburn in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. A defense that was

leaky and shaky in the first half was dominant in the second.

Both teams have College Football Playoff aspirations and for the

winner of Saturday’s affair in Athens, those odds get a huge lift.

The Rebels were a near miss last season, but Lane Kiffin’s team,

which lost three close games last season, has found a way in the

tight ones this year. The Rebels have beaten Kentucky by seven,

Arkansas by six, LSU by five and have the aforementioned three

point win over Washington State.

Georgia, which has won two national championships, three

SEC titles and finished in the top seven eight straight seasons in

the remarkable tenure of Kirby Smart, has been involved in three

knee-knockers, winning in front of hostile crowds at Tennessee and

Auburn, and falling at home, as mentioned above, against Alabama.

The Bulldogs have been plagued by slow starts, trailing Tennessee

21-7 in the first quarter, getting jumped by Alabama 14-0 and

falling behind Auburn 10-0. Smart’s team has been resilient, and

played fantastic second half football. But the future Hall of Famer

knows his team is playing with fire if Georgia can’t start faster.

Especially against the high powered Rebels.

This will be the third straight season that Georgia and Ole Miss

have played. Last season in Oxford, the Rebels, after falling behind

7-0, were dominant in a 28-10 win. The year before, the top-ranked

two-time reigning national champion Bulldogs won big 52-17

Between the Hedges.

There are still plenty of landmines for both teams on the

remainder of their respective schedules, especially for the Bulldogs.

A win by Ole Miss, and the Rebels have a huge margin for error in

the playoff pursuit. Another note, Ole Miss has never played in the

SEC Championship Game, and a trip to Atlanta would be a great

accomplishment for Kiffin’s rejuvenated program.

A win by Georgia, and the Bulldogs playoff hopes take a big

bounce forward, as these Cardiac Canines aim to continue the

excellence of the amazing Smart era.

Not only will this be the biggest game in all of college football

Saturday, it should be noted, with a forecast for high temperatures

in the mid to upper 70s, that these two schools have fanbases

extremely famous for tailgating and fashion. It should be quite the

setting Saturday, in fact, probably starting around Wednesday, for

this battle between these two outstanding programs.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH

BY: MATTHEW HERREN/BI

KIRBY SMART (HC) - Fresh off defeating the Auburn Tigers for

the ninth straight time, Coach Smart and the Bulldogs return to

Sanford Stadium for a top ten matchup with Lane Kiffin and the

Rebels. Smart’s team has faced a lot of adversity this year, but now

finds themself back atop the college football world with a chance

to down Ole Miss in front of a rejuvenated Georgia fanbase. Smart

will be looking to avenge last year’s 28-10 loss in Oxford.

GUNNER STOCKTON (QB #14) - The Bulldogs’ quarterback was

serviceable through the air against Auburn, but was most effective

in the run game. With just one interception on the year, Stockton

has continued to protect the football for Bobo’s offense. Stockton

will need to continue his consistent play as his team faces an Ole

Miss team that can put up points in a hurry.

CHAUNCEY BOWENS (RB #33) - Bowens and the Georgia

running back room faced a stiff challenge against Auburn’s rush

defense, but this weekend’s matchup with the Rebels could see

the group go for a huge game. The Ole Miss defense is allowing

nearly 160 rushing yards per game. Look for Georgia’s rushing

attack led by Bowens to have a field day on the ground against a

weak Rebel front.

COLBIE YOUNG (WR #8) - Though his number was not called

on that much, Young continued to be a security route for Stockton

against Auburn with 53 yards on four receptions. With lots of

attention being put on Branch, Young will likely find himself with

many opportunities for chunk plays if Bobo dials them up.

DILLON BELL (WR #86) - Bell did not record a reception in

last week’s win over Auburn, but his presence on the field during

CJ ALLEN

critical plays shows that the team trusts this senior when the team

needs him most. In his most recent game Between the Hedges,

Bell recorded 68 receiving yards and two rushing touchdowns.

BY JEFF DANTZLER

In Georgia’s 33-10 victory over Ole MIss in 1982,

Kevin Butler hit a 59-yard field goal, the Bulldogs

intercepted seven passes and Herschel Walker

became the SEC’s career rushing leader.

In a top ten showdown in 2023, Georgia beat Ole

Miss 52-17, as Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards

each ran for two TDs, while Ladd McConkey and

Brock Bowers had scoring receptions.

Georgia’s Southeastern Conference champions of

2002 defeated Ole Miss 31-17 Between the Hedges,

with Tim Jennings picking off Eli Manning and

returning the interception for a TD.

With his days in Athens coming to a close, Bell can provide the

Bulldogs with key plays through the air and on the ground

during one of his last few games in front of the Bulldawg Nation.

CJ ALLEN (LB #3) - This future NFL star was Georgia’s most

impactful defensive player in Auburn game with 10 tackles,

including a sack and two tackles for a loss. This weekend, he will

have the task of leading the Bulldogs against one of the most

explosive offenses in the game. Look for Allen to keep his strong

play going and try and keep whoever starts for the Rebels under

center from lighting up the scoreboard.

KJ BOLDEN

SAFETY

KJ BOLDEN (DB #4) - The sophomore and his fellow defensive

backs were impressive last weekend against Auburn’s wide

receivers, limiting their duo of Coleman and Singleton Jr. to

just 64 yards combined. This weekend’s matchup with Ole Miss

features three receivers with over 300 yards on the year, so

Bolden will need to buckle down when Kiffin dials up the deep

ball in an effort to silence Sanford Stadium.

LANE KIFFIN (HC) - Coach Kiffin has already made his mark on the Ole

Miss program. He owns the only two 10-win regular seasons in school

history and has proven capable of engineering big wins. Most notably,

in 2024, Ole Miss defeated Georgia 28–10 — a statement victory that

still resonates. Kiffin’s coaching style is aggressive, strategic, and often

unpredictable, making him one of the most intriguing figures on the

sideline this weekend. Georgia will need to be ready for whatever game

plan he brings to Athens.

TRINIDAD CHAMBLISS (QB #6) - Chambliss has already totaled 10

in the Rebels’ most recent game against Washington State. His dualthreat

ability — making plays in the air and on the ground — keeps

defenses guessing, and Georgia’s secondary will need to stay sharp to

limit his impact.

KEWAN LACY (RB #5) - Lacy has been reliable in the backfield.

Against Washington State, he averaged 5.9 yards per carry for a total

of 142 rushing yards — his third 100-yard game of the season. Lacy’s

combination of speed, vision, and power allows him to consistently

pick up yardage and control the tempo of drives, which could challenge

Georgia’s defensive front.

DAE’QUAN WRIGHT (TE #8) - Wright has emerged as a red-zone

threat for the Rebels. In the Washington State matchup, he caught four

passes for 80 yards and recorded his seventh touchdown of the season.

That performance ties him for sixth all-time among Rebel tight ends in

touchdown receptions. Georgia’s linebackers and safeties will have to be

One of the greatest players in college football history,

legendary quarterback Archie Manning was also a

standout baseball player and part of the Rebels 1969

College World Series team.

Ole Miss was the final team to make the 2022

NCAA Baseball Tournament, and then went on an

improbable run to Omaha, as MIke Bianco’s squad

won the national championship.

One of the best players in Ole Miss annals, All-

American linebacker Patrick Willis went on to a

tremendous career with the San Francisco 49ers,

making First Team All Pro five times.

FOOTBALL

SPORTS

KAM FRANKLIN (DE #5) - Franklin is a playmaker who can change

the course of a game. He recorded six tackles and 1.5 sacks against

Washington State, including a game-sealing tackle on the final play. His

ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt running plays will be key

for Ole Miss, and Georgia’s offensive line will need to communicate and

protect efficiently.

SUNTARINE PERKINS (LB #4) - Perkins is another defensive player

to watch. A versatile defender, Perkins excels in both run support

and pass coverage. Against LSU, Perkins dominated with seven total

tackles. He has a knack for being around the football, and his speed and

instincts make him a constant threat for opposing offenses.

LUCAS CARNEIRO (K #17) - Carneiro has been a steady contributor.

In the second quarter against Washington State, he converted a 40-yard

field goal to get the Rebels on the board. His accuracy in the mid-range

gives Kiffin the confidence to rely on points in tight situations, which

THE

Five

Georgia vs. ole miss

BY: JEFF DANTZLER

1. Rebels QB play - Cue the Billy Joel. To have a shot at slowing

down and beating the Rebels, Georgia’s defense is going to have

to deliver pressure. With Lane Kiffin’s potent offense in Oxford,

it hasn’t seemed to matter who the signal caller is. Trinidad

Chambliss and Austin Simmons have both been fantastic at

throwing and running. Remember, last year in Oxford, it was

Simmons who came off the bench on the Rebels second series

for a shaken up Jaxson Dart, and led Ole Miss to a touchdown

that evened the score at 7-7. Dart returned, and Ole MIss never

looked back in a 28-10 win over the Bulldogs. Cue the Billy Joel

again. Dart is in a New York State of Mind, the first round pick and

starting QB for the Giants. That franchise recognizes its history.

Two of the Giants greatest quarterbacks ever, Charlie Connerly

and Eli Manning, were standouts in college for Ole Miss.

2. King and Prince - Football is in the blood of Saturday’s two

head coaches, and I mean big time. Coach King Kirby Smart, who

has guided his alma mater to a pair of national championships

and eight consecutive top ten national finishes, is the son of the

late great legendary state of Georgia (and Alabama) high school

football coach Sonny Smart. When it comes to Ole Miss royalty,

Archie Manning is at the top. Hey, the speed limit on campus is

his jersey number 18. Lane Kiffin is certainly a prince in Oxford.

He has led Ole Miss to its greatest success since the 1950s and

1960s. His late father Monte Kiffin was an iconic NFL defensive

coordinator, most notably with the 2002 Super Bowl champion

Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

3. Rebel resurgence - The glory days for Ole Miss football

came under the watch of legendary hall of fame coach Johnny

Vaught. The Rebels have won six Southeastern Conference

championships, and they all came under Vaught’s watch. He led

GOOD TIMES IN

OXFORD THESE DAYS!

Ole Miss to SEC championships in 1947, 1954, 1955, 1960, 1962

and 1963. The Rebels were a national power and one of college

football’s most prestigious programs. The 1962 Rebels went 10-0

and were named national champions by one poll. Following that

phenomenal year, and prior to Lane Kiffin’s arrival as Ole Miss’s

head coach, the Rebels had three more 10 win seasons: 1971,

2003 and 2015. Kiffin has led Ole Miss to double digit win seasons

in three of the last four years, including an 11-2 record and No.

9 national ranking in 2023. It marked the first time ever that Ole

Miss won 11 games in a season.

4. Herschel’s run in ‘81 - When it comes to the favorite plays

of Number 34, there are a whole lot to choose from. At the top

of the list, and, I would think on the Mt. Rushmore of Herschel’s

legion of fans favorite runs, was his incredible touchdown jaunt

against Ole MIss in Oxford in 1981 Georgia trailed 7-3 late in the

first quarter and faced a fourth-and-short deep in Rebel territory.

Herschel went Superman over the top for the first down, spun off

a would-be Ole Miss tackler, landed on his feet and dashed into

the end zone for a touchdown. Absolutely astounding. Magic

from the best there’s ever been.

5. Tailgating - There is no debating that when it comes to

tailgating, and all that goes along with it, Georgia and Ole Miss

take a backseat to no schools. The pageantry, the beautiful

campuses, the food, the lemonade and sweet tea, and of course

the fashion show. There is nothing like it. And you can bet, when

the Bulldogs and Rebels get together, the tailgating standards

are at an all time high, with each group of gridiron revelers

striving to be at their very best.

FROM THE

INTERN

Anna

Williams

The Five Stages of Being a Bulldog Fan

f you’ve been to a Georgia

football game, you may know

Ithat we never simply win a

football game–that’d be too easy.

The team has to make it interesting,

keep the fans on their toes.

Take this past Saturday night

against Auburn. We went into

halftime down 10-3, and you could

almost feel the collective panic

across Dawg Nation. We’re all

thinking the same thing: “We have

beaten Auburn eight straight seasons

in a row,” “Losing to our biggest rival

isn’t an option,” “Kirby better give

them a halftime speech for the

ages.” Well, whatever happened

in the locker room must have

worked, because in the second half,

Georgia looked like Georgia again.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton ran it

in from the 10 to make it 20-10 with

under two minutes left, sealing the

deal.

If you have been a fan for long

enough, you know this sounds

familiar. Georgia games typically

come in stages – emotional,

chaotic, and somehow (usually)

ending with us celebrating. So here

it is: The Five Stages of Being a

Bulldog Fan.

Stage 1: The Overconfident

Kickoff

The sun’s out, the band’s playing,

and everyone’s convinced we’re

about to cruise through this game.

This is the stage where confidence

is sky-high, no matter who we’re

playing. You’re barking at everyone,

mocking the opposing team’s fans,

and you’ve probably already posted

something like “It’s a great day to

be a Georgia Bulldog” or “Dawgs

by 50.”

The student section is roaring, the

team runs out, and spirits are high.

Maybe too high.

Stage 2: The Halftime Panic

Then, somewhere between the

first and second quarters, it’s not

looking so easy anymore. The

offense can’t find rhythm, the

defense gives up a couple of big

plays, and third downs are suddenly

turning into full-on anxiety tests.

This is the stage where Georgia

fans begin to sweat a little. Texts

from dad go from “we’ve got this” to

“what are we doing??” Old friends

start texting you, sending their

usual chirps about your team. You

jokingly threaten to turn the game

off or leave the stadium (but you’d

never actually do it).

It’s a mix of frustration and faith

– because deep down, you think

they’ll pull through. You just hope

that it’s sooner rather than later.

Stage 3: The Flicker of Hope

The third quarter starts, and we’re

trusting that our halftime prayers

— and Kirby’s locker-room talk —

did their job. Things start to click,

slowly. Maybe it’s a big defensive

stop, or a long drive that ends in a

field goal. We start to see flashes of

the Georgia that we know and love.

Fans start to lean forward again,

no longer buried in their hands in

frustration. We’re not celebrating

quite yet, but we’re gaining some

hope. It’s cautious optimism at its

finest– the “don’t jinx it stage.”

Stage 4: Dawgs Take Over

And then it happens. That familiar

fourth-quarter energy when the

lights go out and the fans light up.

The crowd wakes up, the team finds

its groove, and suddenly Georgia

football looks like Georgia football

again. CJ Allen cleans up tackles,

Zachariah Branch makes the catch

that puts us in the red zone, and the

confidence is back.

This is where you can go from

yelling at your TV to cheering. Every

big stop gets a “LETS GO” and every

first down gets a fist pump.

Think back to Tennessee- a rocky,

back and forth start, some nerves,

and then an overtime surge that

felt like pure Dawg dominance. It’s

that same pattern: we take a while

to get going, but when we do, we’re

nearly unstoppable.

Stage 5: The Postgame Amnesia

Stockton runs it in, the

scoreboard reads Georgia on top,

and suddenly all that stress from

two hours ago disappears. You’re

right back to your usual self: yelling,

cheering, and acting like the Dawgs

can do no wrong.

You can go back to posting “How

‘Bout Them Dawgs!” knowing that

being a Bulldawg fan means signing

up for this exact roller coaster–

the stress, the yelling and the

satisfaction of coming out on top.

Georgia fans might age a little faster

because of it. It might show up in

stress wrinkles or a few gray hairs, but

we wouldn’t trade those Saturdays for

anything. When the Dawgs turn it on

and you feel that momentum shift,

there’s nothing like it.

Every game reminds us: being a

Bulldawg surely isn’t about comfort

– it’s about confidence, even when

we’re down 10-3 at half. We know

that next week will be a similar

story. Because that’s what being a

Georgia fan is – dramatic, loyal, and

of course, obnoxious in the best

way possible.

WE ARE LOCAL.

WE ARE GEORGIA.

WE ARE BULLDAWGS.

A VIEW FROM ...

Oxford

JUST HOW GOOD IS THIS OLE

MISS TEAM?

I think this Ole Miss team is

good. Before the season, I

think most Ole Miss fans were

expecting 8-4 to maybe 9-3.

The win over LSU and how Ole

Miss has looked, might have

changed the expectations

the rest of this season. The

running game is much better

than what it was a season ago

and the defense is continuing

to improve each week. This

is one of the most talented

wide receiver rooms that Ole

Miss has ever had. Trinidad

Chambliss has been one of

the biggest surprises and best

stories in college football to

start this season.

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE

WIN OVER LSU, AND WHAT

THAT HAS MEANT TO THIS

TEAM?

It meant a lot to the Ole Miss

team and fans, but I don’t think

anyone was surprised. Lane

Kiffin is now 3-0 versus LSU in

Oxford and after the game, the

fans didn’t storm the field. The

last two games in Baton Rouge,

LSU fans stormed the field after

LSU beat Ole Miss. To me, it

shows how the expectations for

the Ole Miss fans have changed

over the years since Kiffin has

been at Ole Miss.

LANE KIFFIN’S IMPACT

HAS BEEN ENORMOUS,

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT HIS

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE OLE

MISS FAN BASE?

It’s been incredible what Kiffin

has done at Ole Miss. Ole Miss

is 26-5 in its last 31 games. I

think Kiffin has grown a lot over

the years and I think he and his

family are happy in Oxford and

Ole Miss. His brother and his

family are in Oxford and two of

Kiffin’s children are in Oxford

as well. The freshmen class at

Ole Miss has gotten bigger and

bigger the last four years and

the city of Oxford is growing

rapidly and I think Kiffin and the

football program plays a part

in that.

WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON

GEORGIA?

Georgia is always a really really

good team. I was curious

how Gunner Stockton would

look this season and he really

impressed me with the win at

Tennessee. Georgia’s defense is

always good, but I have been

a little surprised at their lack of

getting to the quarterback on

defense. I expect Georgia to be

heavily in the mix to win the

SEC and to make the playoffs.

WHAT WOULD A WIN IN

ATHENS MEAN FOR THE

REBELS?

It would be huge. Sanford

Stadium is an incredibly difficult

place to play and outside of

the Alabama game, Georgia

doesn’t lose games at home.

Ole Miss hasn’t won in Athens

since 1996. Ole Miss plays at

Georgia and at Oklahoma

back-to-back. I think if you are

Ole Miss, if you are able to split

those two games, you have to

feel really good about making

the playoffs.

DO YOU LIKE THE 9-GAME

SCHEDULE AND SET-UP?

WHAT ABOUT FOR BASEBALL

AND HOOPS?

I think it will be fun for the

fans. You will play more teams

in your conference and go to

stadiums you haven’t been

to a lot over the years. I think

fans will have to change their

minds about team records

moving forward. A team could

go 9-3 and have a chance

to make the playoffs. I don’t

think the head coaches in the

conference will like the move

to a 9 game schedule at all

because it means more losses.

CAN YOU TELL US SOME OF

YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO

EAT AND HANG OUT AND

TRAVEL TO IN THE SEC?

There are so many excellent

choices. Restaurant Tyler in

Starkville is incredible and

one of my favorites. I love

breakfast food and City Cafe

in Northport, Alabama and

Pancake Pantry in Nashville

are must stops for me when

I’m over there. Hugo’s in

Fayetteville and Carson’s in

Lexington are some of my

favorites too. Terry Black’s BBQ

in Austin is wonderful too.

GEORGIA GIRLS

SOCIAL

Foundation:

NAME: Susie Mobley

FAMILY: My family includes my children: my late son Curry Cross,

my son John Mobley Cross and his wife Amelia, and my daughter

Annie who is a senior at UGA.

HOMETOWN: Moultrie, Georgia

CURRENT TOWN: Athens, Georgia

WHAT YEARS AT UGA: 1984-1988

SCHOOL/DEGREE: BS in Human Resources Management

Profession: Founder of SUSU CO, a lifestyle, jewelry, and home

goods brand, inspired by my love for Florence. I curate handmade

treasures from master artisans so you can bring a little Italian beauty

and timeless design into your everyday life.

Inspo:

BOOK: Books have a way of waking us up. Under The Tuscan Sun

(1), Eat Pray Love, Dance of the Dissident Daughter and Untamed

did just that. They gave me the courage to see myself differently -

independent, brave, adventurous and willing to step outside the

traditional roles I once thought I had to stay in.

MAGAZINE: House Beautiful, The Bitter Southerner, Garden & Gun,

and Veranda.

3.

PODCAST: I love podcasts. I seem to always have my airpods on

and listening to one. Some of my favorites: Good Hang, How I Built

This, Wiser Than Me, Kelly Corrigan Wonders are a few.

INSTAGRAM: Ramsay/Nye(2), The English Room, Hello Sunshine

BRAND: TIBI, Dries Van Noten, Rachel Comey, Liviana Conti, Bottega

Veneta (3) -- and of course anything Italian!

FASHION DESIGNER: A Fellow UGA Alum, Amy Smilovic of Tibi.

Her brand captures everything I want and need at this stage of life:

effortless comfort paired with creative expression. Each piece is

versatile enough to carry me through any setting—whether I’m in

Athens, Georgia, walking the streets of New York City, or soaking in

the beauty of Florence, Italy. No matter where I am, I feel entirely

myself in her designs—and that’s a powerful thing.

2.

1.

INTERIOR DESIGNER: Tami Ramsay of RAMSAY/NYE. One of my

dearest friends—and also one of the most talented designers I

know. We’ve worked together for years, and her creativity continues

to inspire me. Tami is truly a force in design, and I feel lucky to

collaborate with her. Also, Kit Kemp! I absolutely adore the work of

British designer Kit Kemp. Her hotel designs are some of my all-time

4.

favorites—full of personality, color, and a

unique sense of whimsy that always makes

me smile.

CHEF: Peter Dale (4) of Five & Ten is not only

an incredible chef but also one of the kindest

people I know. Born and raised in Athens, he

continues to give back to this community with

generosity and intention, sharing his talents

in meaningful ways. His Southern antipasto

is like a culinary expression of what SUSU Co.,

Italy seen through the lens of the south. I still

dream of the boiled peanut hummus!

MEMORY WHILE IN SCHOOL: Most

definitely my time as a THETA. The

relationships I built during those years

continue today. When this group gets

together we still share the same stories from

all those years ago!!! And they are still funny!

GAMEDAY RITUAL/PLAN: Athens Tailgate

started by Jimbo LaBoon. I have been a part

of this fantastic group for about 30 years.

We all raised our kids together and now our

grown children come to the tailgate when in

town. And our age group UGA friends always

stop by. Great memories!

TAILGATE RECIPE: Definitely my mother’s

pimento cheese! I make it for every home

game for as long as I can remember!!! As

for a recipe, it’s a pinch of this and a dash of

that, but of course one thing it always has is

Duke’s mayonnaise. If you know you know!

HISTORICAL FIGURE: Eleanor Roosevelt,

Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett (5). I love to laugh!

And these are all very strong women.

Athens + UGA:

DESCRIBE ATHENS IN FIVE WORDS OR

LESS: Creative, energetic, fun and home!

5.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS: Athens - ZZ &

Simones, Five & Ten, Bar Bruno, The Pine. I

live in Five Points and walk to each of these

often. I travel often to Florence, Italy and here

are some favorites - Trattoria Camillo, Tamerò

(best pizza), Alla Vecchia Bettola.

SHOPS: NEST is a new gift shop I really love.

As well as the Athens Farmer’s Market on

Saturdays! Fresh flowers are a treat I love to

give myself often.

brought to you by BULLDAWG ILLUSTRATED + LAST RESORT GRILL

In honor of Athens’ distinction as one of the best music towns in the nation and the original

Last Resort opened as a music club in 1966. Those who can still remember the tunes of such

passionate performers as the Reverend Pearly Brown, Towns Van Zandt, Doc Watson, Jimmy

Buffett, and even Steve Martin may feel nostalgic at the mere mention of the club’s name.

Today that passion is found in Last Resort Grill’s menu and atmosphere, pulling directly from

the building’s eclectic history. - Compiled by: Cheri Leavy

TIES TO ATHENS MUSIC: During my college

years at UGA, the South was finding its rhythm —

and the world was starting to listen. Athens had

its own creative heartbeat, while just down the

road, Atlanta was redefining music and culture

through OutKast, LaFace, and So So Def.

From step shows and concerts to late nights

downtown, I was surrounded by energy, creativity,

and collaboration. We didn’t just listen to the

movement — we lived in its rhythm.

The fight against suicide hosts TFAS10 in athens, preaching “It’s ok to not be ok!”

Suicide plagues a generation unlike it ever has before.

A generation that is more anxious, more depressed,

more insecure than any generation prior; however, an

organization founded right here in the Classic City has

taken a stance to combat the suicide epidemic that has taken

too many lives: The Fight Against Suicide. It is a cause that not

only raises money for research on the suicidal brain but devotes

itself to educate this generation on how to handle these terrible

thoughts that enter their minds and those around them,

preaching, “It’s ok to not be ok.”

For the fifth straight year, TFAS hosted its annual boxing

match to punch suicide right in the mouth. 24 boxers entered a

ring for 12 fights not just seeking victory over their opponents

but claiming victory over suicide.

On February 11, 2020, a former Sigma Chi at the University of

Georgia named Sam Asbury took his own life. Come fall of 2021,

David Edmiston, Cooper Heath, Jackson Stuart and a group of

Sigma Chis had the bright idea to put boxing gloves on college

students, throw them in front of thousands of people and let

them literally fight suicide to raise awareness and money for a

cause that needed attention.

Crazy idea, you might think. Flash forward four years,

Edmiston and Co. alongside the Sam Asbury Foundation put

on their 10th fight, spreading to various campuses across

the southeast like the University of South Carolina, Auburn

University, the University of Alabama and North Carolina State

University.

In the fall of 2021 at the first ever fight, a blonde, curly-headed

kid, weighing in at 171lbs, stepped in that ring. His name was

Hamilton Culpepper. That’s right, this guy got his butt handed

to him in front of over a thousand people; however, for the first

time in my life, I did something that was far beyond me. It was

more than throwing punches, it was fighting for a cause that’s

stolen the lives of far too many people my age and beyond.

I had the opportunity of helping with TFAS10 here at UGA

a few weeks ago, interviewing fighters before their bouts in

the ring and as the ringside reporter. That same answer that I

stepped in the ring for rang true among all 24 fighters whether

they won or lost: “We step in the ring to join the army, fighting

for something bigger than ourselves. We fight for those who no

longer can and to bring awareness to this issue so no family has

to experience the horrors of losing a loved one to suicide.”

On Friday, September 26, TFAS10 was held at the Cotton Press

in Athens. The red carpet was rolled out and thousands flooded

through the gates to watch their friends duke it out in the ring.

It made for a bloody, magical evening. Tuxes and ball gowns

clothed the spectators while chants of fighter’s names echoed

through the arena as if Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield were

taking the stage before them. Despite the spectacle in front of

their eyes, it wasn’t just this night that rallied the troops of this

army fighting suicide.

The week leading up to the fight, countless students gathered

at various events around town for what was called “Wellness

Week.” Testimonials were given by those that have lost close

friends to suicide and struggled with suicidal thoughts

themselves. Then, Dr. Carrie Smith, Lead Suicide Prevention

Trainer, gave a QPR seminar to the volunteers and fighters in

TFAS. Dr. Smith sat down and educated the students how to

question (check in on their peers), persuade, (convince their

friends that this world is better with them in it) and refer (put

them in contact with professionals who can give them the

proper tools to fight their mental illness).

It all led to Thursday night’s weigh-in, where hundreds

watched these boxers stand face-to-face for the first time. After

the week of fellowship, encouragement, education and a little

healthy competition, the literal fight was just gravy.

This is not just a boxing match. This is an army. And together,

the Fight Against Suicide is inspiring millions to get back in the

ring and keep throwing punches in this struggle. We’re all in the

ring together and eventually, we will deliver the knockout blow

to suicide.

people and matters.

WHAT PROFESSOR DID YOU ADMIRE MOST?

Philosophy Professor Dr. Carlylian.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR GREATEST

must know when to pull back from one or the other and show

up where you are needed.

WHAT HISTORICAL FIGURE DO YOU MOST

IDENTIFY WITH? General Gebhard Von Blucher for his

aggressive and bold style of leading. It is important to make

a decision and not question whether it is right or wrong. Deal

WHAT DO YOU VALUE MOST IN YOUR FRIENDS?

When I can make my friends happy and they take away a

fun memory or memorable experience, value is added to a

lasting friendship. I like to work for others’ happiness and not

necessarily myself.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT

YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE? In terms of

retailoring myself, taking a little more time to take in the sights

Georgia Men’s Basketball is in excellent hands with headman Mike White!

When it comes to Southeastern Conference

basketball, history is not all that important except

to draw comparisons and remind everyone that

the league no longer belongs to Kentucky. For the

record, the Wildcats have won 50 regular season championships

and 32 tournament titles for a total of 82.

There was a time when the Wildcats were the favorite every

year and most of the rest of conference members treated

basketball as an afterthought.

If fact, a football assistant was often the head basketball

coach. If you needed a big man, one with height and muscle,

most schools recruited him from the football team.

Teams traveled by bus (in some cases a couple of station

wagons) and ate at cafeterias where the players could eat all

they wanted, which was the only way the budget could be

managed efficiently.

Bernie Shively, at Kentucky, was the only athletic director in

the league who was not the football coach. You can imagine

how that went over with Bear Bryant when he became the

Wildcat football coach who eventually left when he realized

that basketball, under Adolph Rupp, would always be the No. 1

sport in Lexington.

Shively organized and made out the league’s basketball

schedule as if Kentucky needed any more advantages.

Those days are no more. The SEC has become one of the

strongest and best conferences in basketball. Former Georgia

coach, Mark Fox, who now is an assistant in Kentucky says

the SEC is the best in the country “because we have the best

commissioner (Greg Sankey), who promotes all sports with great

commitment and passion. He wants basketball to be the best.”

Fox points out that while the league may be the best

in football, there is a difference in that it is difficult for the

lesser teams in football to move up but that is not the case in

basketball. “I don’t see how SEC basketball could be any more

competitive, top to bottom.”

This makes it more challenging for Kentucky to dominate as

in the past. Fox is enjoying his time in Lexington where he, in an

unusual twist, is working as an assistant to Mark Pope, whom he

hired at Georgia in 2009-10 as director of basketball operations.

Pope was enrolled in medical school at Columbia University at

the time.

Mike White will start his fourth season in Athens on November

3 versus Bellarmine University, a small Catholic college in

Louisville, Kentucky, but his job has become a year-round

routine which is demanding and intense. The person with the

highest expectations for Bulldog basketball is the head coach

himself. He does not play golf or tennis, for example, and has

two basic interests — his family and Georgia basketball.

His pattern has been reminiscent of what it was like for him

growing up. His father, Kevin, was a highly regarded athletic

director with stops at Loras College, Maine, Tulane, Arizona

State, Notre Dame and Duke. Mike has spent time at Jacksonville

State and Ole Miss (his alma mater) as an assistant and then

became the head coach at Louisiana Tech, Florida, and Georgia.

He is an involved parent along with his wife, Kira, who was

an All-SEC volleyball player at Ole Miss. They show up at school

functions in support of their five kids Rylee, Maggie, Collin and

Keegan (twins) and Dillon.

Mike Mobley, Georgia’s Sports Information Director for

basketball, says insightfully that Mike would rather “have dinner

with his family than be interviewed on “SportsCenter.”

When he is coaching, he is all in and underscores several

principles … one of the most significant is the work ethic which

was an underpinning in his own career as an undergraduate at

Ole Miss.

He has a harmonious relationship with his staff, yet he wants

them to enjoy an opportunity to grow. After all, he once was an

assistant with ambition and understands that all assistants think

about advancing in the profession.

An efficient organizer and planner, he respects the time of his

players whom he constantly encourages to take opportunity

of the academic process while they are on campus. It is a

point of pride with him that while he was playing professional

basketball, he found a way to return to campus and complete

degree requirements at Ole Miss.

Supporting his academic philosophy, Georgia basketball

players in the fall of 2024 had a cumulative GPA of 3.28 which

was the highest in program history and they followed that up

with a 3.18 average in the spring which happened to be the

second highest in history. This took place while the team was

playing its way into the NCAA tournament.

North Carolina @ Cal (-10.5) | O/U 47.5

Friday, Oct. 17, 10:30PM

The Chapel Bill experiment has utterly flopped. The

downhill spiral doesn’t just end. It will keep heading

downward until a change is made at the top. Cal

has been one of the more underrated stories in

college football. Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe

Sagapolutele is one of the most exciting players

on the west coast; however, he is quite erratic,

throwing nine touchdowns to seven interceptions.

Ignore that… Cal will dominate UNC as the Heels

travel across the country. Hunker down with the

Golden Bears on Friday night at -10.5.

‌Georgia Tech @ Duke (-2.5) | O/U 61

Saturday, Oct. 18, Noon

Georgia Tech led by Brent Key is one of the hardest

nosed teams in the country. It all starts with

quarterback Haynes King. King has no regard for

his body, lunging himself into contact every single

play. The Yellow Jackets should be 11-0 entering

their rivalry week matchup with Georgia. The

rambling wreck isn’t slowing down this weekend as

slim underdogs. Hunker down with Tech to cover

+2.5. I’m feeling a Tech win in Durham.

LSU @ Vanderbilt (-2.5) | O/U 49.5

Saturday, Oct. 18, Noon

LSU is off an emotional win over South Carolina.

Vanderbilt is off a bye after the crushing loss to

Alabama two weeks ago. A well-rested Commodore

team with Diego Pavia at quarterback might be

one of the most dangerous ball clubs in America.

LSU still has no rushing attack, so give me Vandy.

Hunker down with Pavia and the Commodores

in Nashville to get a massive win over LSU and

keep their name in the conversation for SEC

Championship contention.

Oklahoma (-4.5) @ South Carolina | O/U 43

Saturday, Oct. 18, 12:45PM

Oklahoma was exposed in the Red River Shootout

this past weekend. On the other hand, just as

LSU got the emotional win, South Carolina had

an emotional loss to the Tigers. The Gamecocks

are in wounded animal mode and looking to get

a marquee win over a big time brand. Hunker

down with a Gamecocks cover at +4.5… don’t be

surprised with a USC win in Williams-Brice Stadium.

Washington State @ Virginia (-17.5) | O/U 56.5

Saturday, Oct. 18, 6:30PM

Virginia is one of the hottest teams in America

right now. Despite Washington State keeping it

close with Ole Miss last weekend, the Cougars are

terrible. After Wazoo travels from the west coast to

the east coast, they’ll return with another loss, a big

one at that. Hunker down with the Cavaliers to win

big and cover -17.5.

Tennessee @ Alabama (-8) | O/U 60.5

Saturday, Oct. 18, 7:30PM

The third Saturday in October. Tennessee has won

two out of the last three over the Crimson Tide,

but both victories came in Neyland. Alabama

doesn’t lose to the Vols in Bryant-Denny. Plus,

the Crimson Tide is playing like one of the best

teams in the country right now. I’m going to keep

picking Bama until they prove me wrong. They

pushed for us last weekend, and this weekend,

they’re going to add a huge W to the win column.

Hunker down with the Tide to cover -8 against the

Vols in Tuscaloosa.

JD’S

BY: JEFF DANTZLER

It was a loaded weekend of college football, with several battles in the

Southeastern Conference shaping the playoff race. It is a weekly game of survival

in the SEC. Indiana is the team of the week for going out to Eugene and beating

Oregon. Penn State has had its season fall on tough times and is now looking for a

new coach..

1. OHIO STATE - The Buckeyes defense, and they

played very well against Illinois. Ohio State’s 34-16

victory boosted the record to 6-0 and 3-0 in the

Big Ten. Next up is Wisconsin in Madison. The Badgers just got

drubbed by the Iowa Hawkeyes.

2. MIAMI - The Hurricanes were off this past Saturday

and enjoying their wins over Florida, Florida State and

South Florida. Miami can fly around defensively and

the offense has playmakers. Next up is a Friday night

affair down south with the Louisville Cardinals.

3. OLE MISS - The Rebels were favored by over 30

points against Washington State, and escaped with a

24-21 win. But they are undefeated and fully loaded

for an SEC mega showdown with the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday

Between the Hedges.

4. TEXAS A&M - The Aggies are 6-0 and dreaming

big. Their last four wins have come at Notre Dame,

and at home versus Auburn, Mississippi State and

then last week against the Gators. It’s off to Arkansas this week,

and the first of three straight on the road.

5. INDIANA - It has to go down as one of the most

significant victories in Hoosiers football history.

Indiana, which made the College Football Playoff a

year ago, rolled into Eugene and took down Oregon 30-20. No

letdown Hoosiers, Michigan State heads to town.

6. TEXAS TECH - Those Red Raiders are rolling

and in the mix for everything. Texas Tech jumped to

a big lead and then pulled away from Kansas 42-17

in Lubbock. They have a tough road game coming up Saturday

afternoon at Arizona State.

7. TECH - The Yellow Jackets are rolling in Atlanta,

and off to their first 6-0 start in 14 years. Haynes King is

having a tremendous season for Tech at quarterback.

The Yellow Jackets go to Duke Saturday in what should be a high

scoring affair.

8. ALABAMA - The Crimson Tide once again

found a way on the road, edging Missouri 27-24 in

Columbia. Ty Simpson is having a fantastic season

at quarterback. Well now it’s the third Saturday in

October, and the Crimson Tide welcomes Tennessee to town.

9. LSU - The Tigers were a 20-10 winner over South

Carolina, bumping the record to 5-1 on the season.

The SEC gauntlet takes LSU to Vanderbilt Saturday in

the first of three straight against ranked foes. The LSU defense has

sharpened its claws.

10. OREGON - The Ducks took it on the chin against

Indiana, falling 30-20 in Eugene this past Saturday.

Gameday was there, dark and early. The rest of the

schedule is very manageable, and Oregon aims to bounce back

Saturday at home versus Rutgers.

11. GEORGIA - The Bulldogs fell behind Auburn 10-0

this past Saturday, but rallied back for a 20-10 win to

improve to 5-1 and 3-1 in the rugged SEC. Georgia

faces one of its toughest challenges of the season Saturday in

Athens, hosting Ole Miss.

12. MEMPHIS - The Tigers had this past Saturday off to

enjoy their 6-0 start to the season. Memphis is putting

up impressive numbers, especially offensively. The

Tigers head to UAB Saturday, trying not to look ahead for a big

one at home against USF.

Old & In The Way

Hugh Freeze walked into this one with

his card face-up: coach a game big

enough to change a narrative—or vanish

into it. Auburn’s faithful got the memo and

cranked Jordan-Hare to hurricane level.

This wasn’t a “loud crowd.” This was a civic

project. Every snap was cross-examined,

every Georgia huddle jeered like it

owed back taxes. The pregame felt like a

courtroom and a thunderstorm at once,

with the jury seated in the upper deck. And

yet, when the smoke curled and the clock

blinked zeroes, the Bulldogs boarded the

buses with their ninth straight win over

Auburn, pocketing a result that felt less like

a streak extension and more like a stress test

passed with distinction—calm, methodical,

and stubbornly routine.

Say this for a man cornered: he throws

the kitchen sink and the pipes. Freeze

unleashed tempo, motion, misdirection,

and a dash of fourth-down bravado

because nothing spooks a defense quite like

the suspicion that “punt” is off the menu.

He dialed up the kinds of early scripts that

make a stadium feel clairvoyant, borrowing

yards with deception and daring. In that

environment, one wobble can become an

avalanche. Georgia’s counter was boring on

purpose: no panic, no concessions to chaos,

just execution in small, repeatable bites.

You don’t yell back at Jordan-Hare. You turn

it down by moving the chains, one quiet

conversion at a time.

That’s where Gunner Stockton earned

his NIL and his stripes. Jordan-Hare does

not permit dissertations at the line; it

allows glances and hand signals. Stockton

ran the show like a stage whisper—silent

counts, fast eyes, ruthless simplicity. The call

sheet shrank to concepts that travel: quick

game to flatten the pass rush, boundary

isolation when leverage tilted, play-action

leaks to punish overeager safeties, and the

occasional tempo tag to trap Auburn in

personnel it didn’t love. He let the cadence

breathe, took the throws the defense

offered, and saved the heroics for the

huddle—where composure is contagious.

Comebacks, crowd control, and fourth

quarters all run on the same fuel: chainmoving

boredom. Georgia’s line turned riot

control into trench work. False starts feed

the building; clean cadence starves it. By the

late stages, the roars had rhythm, not teeth,

and the blitz packages lost their fangs.

When Auburn

widened to choke

the quicks, Georgia

tightened its splits

and handed the

game to the backs

who make defensive

coordinators mutter

on the headsets. Nate

Frazier turned creases

into math problems,

forcing linebackers

to hesitate just long

enough for angles

to change. Dwight

Phillips Jr. stretched

the edges until

safeties shuffled

a step wider than

they wanted, and

Cash Jones did the

unglamorous work—

sorting blitzers in

pass pro and then

slipping out for the

lifesaving outlet. In

the red zone, the

tight ends changed

the geometry: Oscar

Delp bending seams,

Lawson Luckie

DAWGS MOVE THE AUBURN STREAK TO NINE PLAYING GROWN MAN FOOTBALL!

Elyiss Williams looming as the skylight,

six-foot-seven of contested-catch insurance

that makes safeties look straight up and

reconsider their life choices.

Of course, nights like this require a

defensive paragraph that reads like a

plot twist. Georgia got it up front, off the

edge and inside. CJ Allen tackled like an

accountant, no rounding up, no hidden

yards. Every time Auburn tried to stack

explosives, someone in red and black shut

the window a beat early.

On the back end, Georgia played grownman

coverage without grabbing a fistful of

laundry. The result wasn’t a fireworks show;

it was a dimmer switch. Auburn still had its

moments—Jordan-Hare demands them—

but the visitors trimmed the big ones into

modest gains and turned the drive-ending

throws into 50-50 propositions that leaned

Dawg.

Field position is the SEC’s quietest bully.

Brett Thorson painted corners and bought

breaths, giving the defense room to call its

shot. Peyton Woodring cashed drives that

didn’t quite reach the ribbon, because three

into that noise feels like a raised eyebrow

and a clock punch. On the road, “good” is

drama; “automatic” is peace. Georgia chose

peace.

Discipline beats adrenaline. Jordan-Hare

bets on human nature: the flinch at 0:01 on

the play clock, grabby hands on a late ball,

the “let me be the hero” decision that flips a

script. Georgia’s veterans chose ritual over

impulse. The defense echoed calls—point,

echo, settle—and refused to let Auburn

stack positives into a landslide. The offense

let the clock drip without blinking. That

wasn’t fear; that was punctuation. Choose

clarity over speed, then let the next snap tell

the truth.

And that ninth straight? It isn’t just trivia.

It’s a thesis on standards. It says Georgia’s

program travels into storms, into storylines,

into someone else’s last stand and plays the

same grown-up football anyway. It says the

roster’s depth lets freshmen make the field

louder by quieting it. It says that when an

opponent arrives with narrative gasoline,

the Bulldogs don’t play with matches;

they bring a wet blanket and patience. If

the protection math remained clean, that

travels. If Stockton’s command held steady

while 87,000 cross-examined every blink

that travels. If the front seven’s first-down

knockbacks kept Freeze off script, that

travels, too. Georgia didn’t just beat Auburn;

Georgia beat the building designed to save

a coach. That’s different. That’s rarer. That’s

how streaks live... and how seasons mature.

KEVIN BUTLER’S

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

COMPILED BY HAMILTON CULPEPPER

OFFENSIVE PLAYER

Zachariah Branch - Zachariah performs as if he is still in Las Vegas. He’s

flashy, spectacular to watch, elusive as winning at blackjack and more

importantly, he’s a bulldog that is producing. The 5’10” 180-pound junior has

been everything the Bulldogs expected him to be, and he did it once again

Saturday versus Auburn. Branch recorded nine receptions for 57 yards with a

long of 13 that electrified the offense and propelled Georgia to a victory. We

know Zachariah is dangerous, and he showed it with one kick off return for

24 yards which gave the Bulldogs a good starting position against a stingy

Auburn defense. We will need ZB this weekend against Ole Miss, and he can

match the Rebels’ offensive production, which is something we’re getting

used to.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER

CJ Allen - As we see number three in the middle of our defense,

there’s a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling that I get. Seeing another Georgia

linebacker perform like CJ Allen did Saturday night on the planes is a

very comforting vision. The junior from Barnesville, Georgia continues to

dominate in the middle for the Bulldogs. CJ recorded 10 tackles, six solo

tackles, one sack, two tackles for a loss and the whipped cream on top…

a pass deflection. When Georgia needed a big play CJ responded. Our

defense tightened up in the second half, and now we need CJ to kickstart

the Bulldogs defense against the Ole Miss Rebels. No need to wait until

the second half this week kids, it might be too late if we do. Lead us to

victory CJ!

SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER

The whole special teams unit - When you get to this point in the season,

special teams can easily be defined; successful or a problem. The University

of Georgia, once again, is producing when the special teams have been

performing at a high level. Our kickoff team has virtually nullified any

return, giving our defense a consistent starting position. Our punt team

and the net punt average is superior. Zachariah Branch and our punt return

team are dangerous and must be recognized by any of our opponents.

Our kickoff team is ready to make an explosive play at any time. Peyton

Woodring and our field goal team is as good as there is in the business. And

you best believe, we can block a field goal when needed. At this point in

the season I’m giving our special teams an A+. Let’s go for another perfect

execution this Saturday against the Rebels!

UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME

When your opponent picks you to retire one of their great player’s jerseys,

you need to take that as a slap in the face. That is almost as bad as being

picked for the homecoming game by your opponent. That’s where

Georgia found itself Saturday night against Auburn. That motivation

came at halftime when Georgia looked lethargic, almost as if they wanted

to watch the ceremony too. But the Bulldogs took it as a slap in the face,

and went out and dominated an Auburn team that only could hope Cam

Newton would put his jersey back on. There’s no way his jersey could fit

over that Hat, so Auburn was left to defend themselves which they just

could not do. Thank you Auburn for trying to celebrate against Georgia

who now owns the town of Auburn as Georgia extended their streak to

nine victories in a row.

STATS THAT

MATTER

GEORGIA - 20, AUBURN - 10

BY: MATTHEW HERREN/BI

A look back at what decided the game between Georgia and Auburn.

9 - STRAIGHT TIMES GEORGIA HAS DEFEATED AUBURN

This comeback win over Auburn marks the ninth consecutive

time Georgia has defeated the Tigers. One of the many

things that Smart has done well during his time in Athens is

constantly beat rivals such as Tennessee, Auburn, Florida and

Tech. As for Auburn, decisions will certainly be made down the

road in regards to Freeze’s future, as the head coach cannot

seem to get his signature win down on The Plains.

17 - COMBINED PENALTIES

The boo-birds were out in full force throughout this game

as both teams saw a combined 17 penalties. Auburn was

penalized 11 times to Georgia’s six. While Bulldog and

Tiger fans will likely debate these calls for a long time, it is

unfortunate to see games with constant stoppages and the

outcome of drives decided by penalties.

8:45 - TIME OF GEORGIA’S FINAL TOUCHDOWN DRIVE

Georgia’s 8:45 drive that ended in a Gunner Stockton rushing

touchdown tied the school record for longest drive in terms of

time length. Similar to what we saw against Alabama, Georgia

attempted to drain the clock and let the offense decide the

outcome. Smart and his staff did an exceptional job this time

of not letting Auburn get the ball back with a chance to pull

off another miracle in Jordan-Hare.

0 - SECOND HALF POINTS ALLOWED BY THE

GEORGIA DEFENSE

The Georgia defense pitched a shutout in the second half,

allowing the offense to score 17 points en route to a victory.

Jackson Arnold and the Tigers converted just three first

downs in the second half, along with less than 50 yards of

offense. It’s almost becoming routine at this point where

Georgia allows early points then makes adjustments to stifle

the opposition.

‌3 - GEORGIA POINTS IN THE FIRST HALF

Georgia found themselves trailing by a touchdown at

halftime after the offense scored just three first-half points.

While Georgia’s defense has proven that they can be relied

on to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance, Stockton

and the offense have found themselves trailing at halftime

in three of their last four games. This weekend against

Kiffin and the high-flying Rebels, Georgia might not be as

fortunate if they find themselves trailing early on.

1 - CHAUNCEY BOWENS TOUCHDOWN

Though he was a part of a balanced rushing attack, Bowens

found the endzone for the fourth time this season. Coming

into a matchup with an Auburn defense that was tough

against the run, the running back room led by Bowens did

enough when their numbers were called. This weekend

against Ole Miss presents Bowens with a chance for a

breakout game with the Rebels’ rush defense being one of

their weakest links.
