HEALTHCARE ESTATES Matters

Transforming patient flow with real-time intelligence

n the NHS, efficiency is vital and every delay

Iin patient movement or service delivery ripples

through the system – from extended waiting times

to bottlenecks in critical departments. That’s why

Synbiotix, in collaboration with Living Map, has

developed an innovative real-time location solution

designed to optimise patient flow and transform the

way healthcare facilities operate.

Our integrated platform combines Synbiotix’s

intelligent task management with Living Map’s

advanced indoor positioning technology. By

leveraging existing hospital infrastructure, the

system delivers 3D indoor positioning that connects

people, places, and tasks in real time. This means

portering teams, cleaning staff, and assets can be

automatically dispatched and tracked based on live

location data – enabling faster responses, smoother

patient transfers, and reduced operational friction.

RISK MANAGEMENT Matters

The innovation lies

in turning data into

foresight. Through

large-scale analytics, the

system predicts staffing

requirements, adjusts

workflows dynamically,

and optimises start

and finish times. This

shifts the model from

reactive management to

proactive, data-driven

decision-making –

ensuring the right person

is in the right place, at the

right time.

The impact is already being felt. Across

NHS Trust pilots, hospitals are reporting

measurable improvements

in task completion times,

cleaning compliance, and

asset utilisation. Integration

with the Patient Administration

System (PAS) ensures seamless

updates on admissions,

discharges, and transfers

– automatically triggering

discharge cleans and portering

requests. This reduces manual

co-ordination and keeps patient

flow moving efficiently through

wards and departments.

Critically, the system enhances

infection control by linking RTLS

and PAS data to

trigger targeted

discharge cleans

for patients with

infections such

as MRSA or C.

difficile. This

ensures cleaning

protocols

are not only

completed but

also verified

through realtime

audit trails.

By combining

intelligent task

management,

live mapping, and

predictive analytics,

Synbiotix and Living Map

are redefining how healthcare estates function.

The result is a more responsive, transparent, and

efficient operational model – one that supports

safer environments and better patient outcomes.

At this year’s Healthcare Estates conference,

Synbiotix and Living Map will showcase how

RTLS-driven innovation is setting a new benchmark

in patient flow optimisation. Come along to the

presentation at 11am on 21st October, Manchester

Central to find out more.

Underinsurance is an unhealthy risk for many

health and care operators

any firms operating in the health and care

Msector don’t realise the serious implications

of being underinsured, warns insurance broker,

James Bright, from the health and care division

of independent insurance broking and risk

management specialist, TL Dallas.

James said, “Underinsurance in the health and

care sector can lead to severe financial, legal, and

reputational damage. The sector is particularly

susceptible to being underinsured, which can be

due to the time constraints on providers. Other

factors such as rising costs, budget constraints,

regulatory changes and obligations, compliance

issues, underestimation of liability risks, complex

insurance needs and the increase in litigation and

compensation claims can all contribute to leaving

businesses exposed.”

“It’s therefore vital insurance is given time and

attention so that operators are covered adequately

and meet their contractual requirements with local

authorities, residents and employees. It’s also

equally important that they know who to turn

to for guidance and help. Many companies can

find it difficult to navigate and identify the right

insurance policies.”

“Health and care operators potentially face

a higher risk of legal claims from employees,

residents or their families due to accidents,

neglect, or malpractice. Without adequate liability

insurance, company owners and directors can

be exposed to significant personal financial and

legal risks, which can obviously have considerable

impact.”

“Having personally worked in the health and care

sector for the last 15 years, and with an affiliation

with many care associations across the UK, we

have seen its common for some operators to opt

for the cheapest policy, without fully understanding

the implications. It’s the responsibility of the

insurance broker to help clients navigate what

they are covered for, which is why the in person,

comprehensive risk review that we provide, totally

free of charge, is popular with many health and care

operators whether this be at renewal, or during the

policy period.”

James emphasises the importance of working with

specialist insurance brokers that understand the

unique risks, and that have an experienced and

dedicated team with knowledge of the sector.

He added, “At TL Dallas, we also have our own

in-house claims team that gives peace of mind,

and we recommend a regular review of insurance

coverage in good time, to get the best outcome

from the market. At TL Dallas we are able to access

the whole of the market, so we are able to provide

an all-encompassing review of what’s on offer.”

“By reviewing existing insurance policies promptly

before the renewal date, health and care providers

can better protect their organisation from financial

risks, legal claims, and operational disruptions due

to underinsurance.”

TL Dallas also works closely with other industry

experts including solicitors, risk management

professionals and Care Quality Commission (CQC)

advisors to provide a wealth of knowledge and

relevant guidance to clients.

Education and innovation converge

T

he Posture and Mobility Group conference is

being held this year on the 14th-16th July, at

the International Centre in Telford and 2025’s

program seeks to continue the event’s reputation

as the premier educational conference for the

mobility sector.

Posture and Mobility Group (PMG) was set up in

1992 as a conference to advance and disseminate

knowledge about the posture and wheeled mobility

needs of people with disabilities. As a Charitable

Incorporated Organisation (CIO), PMG’s aim is to

share knowledge and promote best practice in the

field of posture and wheeled mobility. Currently,

the organisation has over 2,000 members, with the

majority being professionals working in rehabilitation

and focusing on the provision of wheelchairs and

special seating.

One of the largest events in PMG’s calendar is the

annual conference, which allows professionals

to come together to learn and share knowledge,

view products and network with colleagues. Every

year the PMG conference provides an educational

programme, industry exhibition and networking

event for those working in the field of posture

and wheeled mobility.

This year’s event focuses on the posture and mobility

needs of wheelchair users and, as such, is beneficial

for all professionals working in this field. Much of

the content provided is also transferrable to other

complex seating needs, so is applicable to any

professionals working within the community,

whose focus is not exclusively wheelchairs.

One of the highlights of PMG’s annual conference is

its stellar line of plenary speakers. The conference

has gained a reputation over the years for booking

speakers who not only advance the field, but also

provide valuable insight into current trends and

upcoming issues for the industry.

This year’s lineup of speakers continues this

tradition. Stephen Cooke, Orthopaedic Surgeon at

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire

NHS Trust and Alex Gill, Physiotherapist at Sheffield

Children’s NHS Foundation Trust; led a talk on The

Cerebral Palsy Integrated Pathway and how it can

improve the care of children and young people with

Cerebral Palsy.

New qualifications in assessing wheelchairs and

seating is discussed by Clare Barber, Director and

OT of Trusted Assessing and Care Training; while

Laura Finney, Marketing and Clinical Director at

Leckey, explains how assistive technology doesn’t

just happen, it requires investment in innovation.

There will also be a series of distinct, smaller

presentations that run simultaneously at PMG 2025,

allowing attendees to choose from multiple topics

of interest at the same time. This year’s parallel

sessions will feature Dr Jonathan Hosking of the

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board explaining

the impact of custom contoured wheelchair

seating on scoliosis progression for children with

neurologic and neuromuscular disorders, as well as

Holly Pulham from the North Bristol Trust leading

a fascinating session entitled ‘Wheelchair Skills for

Clinicians – an Open Secret.’

Among the variety of guest speakers and parallel

sessions there will also be over 30 different exhibitors

at PMG 2025. Companies that exhibit at the annual

conference and exhibition provide a range of

products and services relevant to the field of

posture and wheeled mobility.

There’s manual and powered wheelchairs,

special seating and electronic assistive technology

manufacturers demonstrating their latest products,

as well as postural management solutions like

pressure cushions and belts/harnesses on display.

PMG is famed for always looking forward, so this

year’s conference will also feature a selection of

software solutions which demonstrate how the

posture and mobility sector is innovating for

the future.

PMG’s 2025 conference is a great opportunity for

professionals to build connections with experts

in their respective fields. The majority of the

conference’s delegates are occupational therapists,

physiotherapists, rehabilitation engineers and clinical

scientists working within the NHS.

As well as a plethora of NHS staff there is also

a good number of attendees who work for

manufacturers or distributors of posture and mobility

products, with a smaller, but significant, number

working in other NHS departments, the charitable

sector, for local authorities or independently. So the

conference is a perfect chance to network, cross

collaborate and benefit from expertise in a wide

variety of settings.

In addition, PMG 2025 hosts a series of breakout

meetings over the course of the event. These smaller,

focused gatherings give attendees an opportunity

to discuss specific topics, participate in activities

and network. Allowing for more in-depth discourse

on subjects as broad as collaborative approaches

to specialist equipment provision and how AI can

empower independent mobility for people with

severe movement disorders.

2025’s Posture & Mobility Group conference is

gearing up to be the most comprehensive yet. With

a full array of speakers, a plethora of exhibitors and

a unique experience to share expertise, don’t miss

this year’s event held on the 14th-16th July, at the

International Centre in Telford.

This is our pick of the best exhibitors from this year’s

show, listed here in alphabetical order: Vermeiren.

Further details can be found on this page & the next.

Mobility Group conference, please see below:

Review - Top Exhibitors

Vermeiren UK: A new era of choice and quality

for the UK mobility sector

Choice. Quality. Partnership. The new standard in mobility provision.

he 2025 PMG Conference was an exciting

occasion for clinicians, therapists, and

Tsuppliers alike, and a particularly significant

one for Vermeiren UK, which made its official

debut as the dedicated UK home of the globally

recognised Vermeiren Group.

For many visitors, this was the first opportunity to

experience Vermeiren’s products first-hand, and

the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees

welcomed the arrival of a new name in the UK

mobility sector, recognising both the exceptional

build quality and adaptability of the products, and

expressing enthusiasm for greater choice in a market

that has long needed it.

“PMG has been a huge success for us,” said Paul

Everett, Head of Commercial for Vermeiren UK.

“It’s been fantastic to engage directly with clinicians

from across the country and to hear their appetite

for new options and fresh thinking. In a busy

marketplace, it’s reassuring to know there’s strong

demand for innovation, quality, and a company that

listens to the needs of the sector.”

Quality engineering, designed for everyday use

Founded in 1957 as a family-run company,

Vermeiren has become synonymous with

European engineering excellence. With decades of

experience designing and manufacturing mobility

and rehabilitation equipment in its own production

facilities across Europe, the group proudly maintains

a ‘Made in Europe’ heritage. Now present in more

than 40 countries, Vermeiren’s expansion into the UK

market brings with it a long-standing reputation for

quality, comfort, and reliability.

At PMG, Vermeiren UK showcased a carefully

selected range designed to meet real-world clinical

and user needs, from entry-level wheelchairs to

advanced powerchairs and postural solutions.

Among the powerchairs, the Verso captured strong

interest thanks to its clever convertibility, easily

dismantled for transport and even convertible from

powered to manual use, making it ideal for users

with evolving mobility needs. The Turios, a compact

rear-wheel drive model, offered clinicians the

flexibility to specify it as a drive-only or with manual

or powered tilt and recline, ensuring adaptability

and value across a wide range of user profiles.

Completing the display, the Sigma 230 mid-wheel

drive chair impressed for its smooth, stable

handling and outstanding comfort, earning praise

as a high-performing option for both private users

and NHS-funded clients.

Postural Innovation: The Neoflex range

Beyond mobility, Vermeiren also presented its

Neoflex range of postural positioning products,

designed and produced in Europe to provide

enhanced comfort, alignment, and support. The

forthcoming Neoflex head support band attracted

particular attention, offering clinicians a new level of

adjustability and functionality within postural head

support systems.

Together, these products demonstrate Vermeiren’s

holistic approach to mobility and posture, solutions

that work seamlessly together to deliver better

outcomes for users and greater flexibility for

prescribers.

Supporting both NHS and private pathways

One of Vermeiren UK’s key advantages is its ability to

tailor solutions to suit a variety of funding routes.

Whether through NHS wheelchair services, personal

wheelchair budgets, or private purchases via mobility

dealers, Vermeiren products can be configured to balance

budgetary requirements with clinical priorities.

This adaptability allows Vermeiren UK to serve both

public and private sectors, ensuring that clinicians,

service managers, and mobility dealers alike can

access products that meet their clients’ needs,

supported by a responsive UK-based team.

A confident commitment to the UK Market

The establishment of Vermeiren UK represents a

long-term investment in the British market. With

a dedicated local presence and the backing of a

globally respected manufacturer, Vermeiren UK

is perfectly positioned to provide personalised

service, reliable supply, and ongoing technical

support to its partners across the country.

As the PMG Conference showed, there is strong

demand for a supplier that can offer fresh ideas,

reliable engineering, and genuine partnership.

Vermeiren UK’s arrival delivers exactly that: a new

era of choice and confidence for clinicians, service

providers, and mobility dealers across the UK.

The Jazz S50 drew attention as a robust, steelframed

wheelchair offering exceptional value

for money without compromise on performance,

perfectly suited for NHS and service provision. The

Trigo folding manual wheelchair impressed with

its compact, user-friendly design, offering users

practicality and style in equal measure.

TRAINING Company of the Year

Empowering healthcare

through training

In this issue of Healthcare Matters, we are pleased to feature

Edge Services as our Training Company of the Year

EDGE Services is one of the UK’s

leading providers of people handling

training. Offering Key Trainer

certification in areas such as moving and

handling, dementia care, and managing

behaviour that challenges – they empower

delegates to deliver this knowledge to

their colleagues. Through a team of expert

nurses, occupational therapists, and

physiotherapists, EDGE equips trainers

with the skills, techniques, and resources

needed to improve health and safety for

themselves, their colleagues, and the

clients they support.

For more than 25 years, EDGE has set itself

apart from other training providers – not only

through the quality of its courses but also

through its commitment to ensuring staff are

equipped to deliver outstanding training while

feeling supported, valued, and fulfilled in their

roles. This dedication to employee wellbeing

and development was formally recognised in

2024, when EDGE received the UK Employer

of the Year: Silver (2-49 employees) award at

The Investors in People Awards. The accolade

highlights the company’s ongoing focus on

building an exceptional workplace culture and

fostering professional growth.

We checked in with Ruth Hewitt, Operations

Manager at EDGE who gave us more

information on the company’s history, and its

recent award back in November 2024, “EDGE

was founded in 1998 and, over the years, has

grown steadily as experienced trainers joined

the team. Today, the company is recognised

as a leader in health and safety training

across the UK healthcare and special needs

education sectors.”

“In September 2021, EDGE became part of

the RAH Group, founded by Craig Haley and

Paul Melling. Craig now plays an active role as

Managing Director, working closely with the

well-established EDGE team to drive future

growth and innovation.”

“Most recently, in November 2024, we were

proud to be named UK Employer of the

Year: Silver (2-49 employees) at

The Investors in People Awards.

This recognition is a testament to

the dedication of the entire EDGE

Services team and our commitment

to making EDGE not only a great

place to learn, but also a great place

to work and grow.”

EDGE offers courses that are vital for

healthcare, social care, and special

needs training. Health and care work

is a tough and demanding career, but

equally as rewarding. When staff feel

supported through good training that

is relevant to their job and is welldelivered

involving practical steps, it

boosts confidence, job satisfaction,

and overall reduces burnout and

turnover.

Because EDGE uses qualified

healthcare professionals and

Ruth Hewitt, Operations Manager at

EDGE Services

standardised, accredited content, it helps

organisations maintain consistency in

practices across teams, shifts, and settings,

ensuring everyone adheres and works under

the same protocols.

EDGE covers a vast number of topics and

courses. As well as redeveloping their

Understanding and Managing Behaviour

that Challenges Key Trainer’s Certificate,

EDGE has also recently launched a Dementia

Care Key Trainer’s Certificate, both of which

are accredited with RoSPA as Customised

Awards at level 4.

Even though EDGE are more well-known for

their manual handling training, the company is

currently promoting the UMBC and Dementia

courses.

The Understanding and Managing Behaviour

that Challenges (UMBC) Course will comprise

of pre-course reading, with two days face to

face training including a written assignment. It

will provide you with the knowledge, skills and

confidence to train others in de-escalation

and breakaway techniques, which can be

adopted to deal with individuals exhibiting

behaviour that challenges. This qualification

will provide learners with the knowledge to

analyse challenging behaviour situations and

the skills to implement solutions in managing

behaviour that challenges that comply with

8

current best practice and promote inclusivity,

whilst ensuring the wellbeing for the individual

and their support worker.

Dementia Care Key Trainer’s Certificate

involves a two-day course that provides

delegates with the knowledge, skills and

confidence to train others in awareness of

dementia that can be adopted to deal with

symptoms, challenges and how to work

effectively. If you support or regularly interact

with people living with dementia – whether in

healthcare, social care, emergency services,

hospitality, or the community, the Dementia

Care Key Trainers Course equips you with

practical, person-centred skills to inspire

others to deliver compassionate, informed

care. Designed to deepen your understanding,

this course will

strengthen your

communication

skills and help

you to create true

dementia-friendly

environments

wherever you work.

Ruth explained some of the key benefits

of EDGE’s services, “We offer access to a

Resource Library for the duration of a Key

Trainer’s certification. This provides delegates

with everything they need to onward

deliver the training including paperwork,

documentation, training tools and for manual

handling, videos and eLearning modules.”

“We also have post training support where

delegates can contact trainers to discuss

any questions they may have, and we can

offer guidance and support. This is very well

received and appreciated by delegates.”

As well as constantly updating its courses and

content to ensure continued development,

EDGE will be attending The Occupational

Therapy Show at the NEC in Birmingham on

26th-27th November 2025, and welcomes you

to visit them at Stand: K59.

EDGE also has plans to attend the Scottish

Manual Handling Forum in May 2026.

Look out for EDGE trainers who will be in

attendance across a vast range of events

throughout the next year.

In closing, we asked Ruth how she felt

receiving the award, “We are delighted to have

been selected for this award and thrilled to be

recognised for our expertise as it celebrates

our knowledge and professionalism.”

repairs and then sends it back. Its skilled team of

technicians know the equipment back to front and

the company’s parts catalogue is

well stocked.

One of the key factors that

set Frequency Precision apart

from other companies in the

industry is their dedication to

research and development. It

invests heavily in developing

Inclusivity and diversity are at the core of their culture,

promoting equal opportunities for all employees.

The company also actively engages in community

outreach programs, supporting local initiatives,

suppliers and charities. Their ethical business practices

ensure transparency and integrity in all their dealings,

building trust with all their stakeholders.

Recently, Frequency Precision has risen to the

challenge of expanding its distribution while being

proactive in combating a difficult year in the healthcare

industry. The company has

expanded its area sales as

well as appointed distributors

for Ireland, New Zealand and

Australia, securing a wider global

reach for its products.

Frequency Precision has also

recently relocated to a selfowned

building. The new move has reduced operating

costs, which means it has been able to absorb rising

costs and adapt to changing times, while ensuring

customers still receive the same high-quality products.

As Frequency Precision looks to the future, it is set

to continue its growth and success in the healthcare

industry. Always exploring new opportunities and

expanding their product offerings to meet the needs

of a diverse and ever-changing market.

The company plans to develop deep integration

with external partners and proactively take part in

key industry developments, in order to stay ahead

of the curve and provide the most cutting-edge

advancements all in one place.

Frequency Precision is more than just a provider of

medical alert systems. Their commitment to safety,

innovation, and customer satisfaction sets them

apart in the industry, and their products are trusted

WASTE MANAGEMENT Company of the Month

Driving innovation

in healthcare waste

management

In this issue of Healthcare

Matters, we are pleased

to feature Anenta as our

Waste Management

Company of the Month

ounded in 2014, Anenta was

established to strengthen the

FNational Health Service’s (NHS)

approach to healthcare waste

management across the UK. Combining

deep technical expertise with extensive

public sector experience, Anenta’s

leadership team is dedicated to

identifying and bridging operational gaps

in healthcare facilities of all sizes.

At the forefront of the company is

Managing Director Graham Flynn, an

accomplished environmental services

professional and entrepreneur with handson

experience across every level of the

waste management industry. During his

four years in the private sector and over six

years within the NHS, Graham witnessed

first-hand the inefficiencies created by

outdated communication systems,

inaccurate billing, and a lack of data-driven

decision-making.

These challenges inspired the creation

of Anenta – a company built on the

principles of transparency, efficiency, and

customer focus. Anenta has transformed

12

the management of clinical and healthcare waste by

cutting through internal bureaucracy and delivering

smarter, technology-led solutions that put clients first.

Today, Anenta stands as the UK’s leading independent

healthcare waste management specialist. Acting as an

external contract management partner, the company

delivers bespoke, affordable, and professional

services across recycling, general waste, saniwaste,

confidential, and clinical waste streams. Managing over

450,000 collections annually from more than 20,000

locations, Anenta has saved clients over £13 million

directly, while introducing workplace efficiencies that

have generated a further £35 million in savings.

Based in Staines-upon-Thames, Anenta continues

to work with GPs, pharmacies, ICBs, hospitals,

laboratories, dental surgeries, care homes and

nursing homes across England, to drive positive

change and set new standards in sustainable

healthcare waste management.

Anenta has received a substantial number of awards

and recognitions, including earlier this year, being

named the Winner of the Healthcare Business

Review UK Healthcare Waste Management Company

of the Year award 2025.

Much of this is possible thanks to Vector, Anenta’s

proprietary, multi-stakeholder system, which equips

all parties in the healthcare waste supply chain

with real-time updates on documentation, billing,

compliance and outcomes.

Anenta’s capabilities are further enhanced by

Vector’s seamless integration with existing

procurement systems, enabling smooth

adoption without disrupting

established workflows. The

platform also empowers suppliers

by highlighting inefficiencies and

providing data-driven insights

to improve service delivery and

operational performance.

Through Vector, Anenta’s

transformative capabilities

are now being extended to an

increasing number of care and

nursing homes, applying proven

efficiencies from the public sector

to private settings. By addressing

sector-wide challenges such as

reduced social care funding and

rising operational costs, Vector

helps organisations achieve best

value while improving sustainability

and service quality.

What’s more, Anenta also plays

a pivotal role in helping facilities

Graham Flynn,

Managing Director,

Anenta

evaluate waste contracts, streamline processes and

ensures that they meet compliance requirements.

By applying the same rigorous standards and

collaborative approach it uses with public-sector

clients, Anenta is transforming waste management

for the primary care sector, creating efficiencies

for unique operational challenges, enabling

organisations to achieve greater efficiency and

cost savings while maintaining the highest service

standards.

It is this proactive approach to addressing issues,

coupled with its powerful monitoring and compliance

tools, that sets Anenta apart, helping its clients

navigate the complexities of waste management

with confidence.

However, beyond innovation, Anenta has worked

with Health Education England and NHS England

to develop a standardised e-learning program

accessible through the Vector system. This equips

users with the knowledge and skills needed to

adhere to pre-acceptance waste audits, waste

duty of care audits and clinical waste management

compliance. Taking this a stage further, Anenta

also provides access to remote training and remote

auditing, which streamlines the process down to

hours, not days ensuring that clients maintain the

highest compliance standards.

Providing proactive guidance on regulatory

requirements, Anenta stands out in the sector by

alerting customers to changes in new legislation

and its impact, such as the introduction of the

new Simpler Recycling legislation, which became

effective March 2025.

With sustainability playing a large

part in everything that Anenta does,

this is shown through its tireless

efforts to minimise environmental

impact by selecting local disposal

routes to reduce carbon emissions

and road miles, while prioritising

disposal methods that provide

energy recovery and resource

efficiency solutions instead of

incineration or landfill. This includes

partnering with environmentally

responsible suppliers to reduce the

carbon footprint of the healthcare

waste management supply chain.

The company is proud to announce

the recent appointment of Matthew

Boycott, former Senior programme

lead, Primary Care NHS England, as

Director of Strategy and Business

Development. Matthew’s focus

is on identifying new areas where

Anenta’s ability to understand

complex marketplaces through the intelligent use

of data – and its skill in the design of user-focused

services – will be used to save clients significant

amounts of time and money in the public and

private sector.

Under Matthew’s direction, Anenta aims to use its

analytical approach to build a collective understanding

of problems facing the public and private sector,

where it can act as a disruptor, challenging perceived

practice to deliver intervention with market-changing

impact, targeting sectors where complex processes

and compliance requirements create challenges that

are ripe for transformation.

Where efficiencies or areas for improvement are

identified, Anenta will use its proprietary Vector

technology to analyse data points at scale so that

more agile and customer-centric solutions can be

developed using its pathway design approach.

Looking ahead, Anenta has set the bar for

efficiency and collaboration in the healthcare waste

management space working with NHS ICBs, GP

practices, pharmacies, and the care home sector. Its

intention is to replicate this approach across a host

of other areas; whether that’s supporting existing

clients with other complex problems and services, or

venturing into new sectors where prospective clients

are exhausted by unwieldly processes and are stuck

in marketplaces that are failing to meet their needs.

Here, Anenta’s novel approach to managing

processes through its advanced Vector platform

will allow the business to break new ground in farreaching

ways, addressing sectors that will benefit

from significant change and re-design. This will cover

everything from translation services in the NHS,

to property services for leaseholders, which are in

urgent need of intervention.

Doing things in new and different ways, Anenta aims

to overhaul current approaches so that it can bring

broader benefit to clients through its managing agent

services. From enabling client collaboration to broker

better prices, through to complete service re-design

to address markets that are not fit for purpose,

Anenta believes its experience and expertise puts it

in the perfect place to create meaningful, innovative,

game changing solutions for its clients.

SPECIALIST MOBILITY & REHABILITATION Company of the Month

Grounded in clinical innovation

In this issue of Healthcare Matters, we are pleased to

feature Active Design as our Specialist Mobility

and Rehabilitation Company of the Month

ith over 30 years of specialist

expertise, Active Design has

Westablished itself as one of the

UK’s leading designers and manufacturers

of modular and bespoke postural seating.

To bolster its profile, it also merged last

year with Southwest Seating and Rehab

Ltd. Based in Birmingham, in new larger

purpose-built premises, the company is a

trusted partner to NHS wheelchair services,

therapists, and clinicians nationwide –

known for combining clinical insight with

engineering precision to create truly usercentred

solutions.

Founded in 1991, Active Design was born

from pioneering clinical research at the Chailey

Heritage Rehabilitation Engineering Unit in East

Sussex. This research led to the development

of the Chailey Approach to Postural Seating

(CAPS) – a ground-breaking modular system

that transformed postural support by enhancing

comfort, function, and mobility for people with

complex physical needs. Today, that legacy

continues through the company’s renowned

CAPS II seating system – a benchmark for

innovation and clinical effectiveness.

Its purpose-built headquarters bring together

manufacturing facilities, warehousing, offices, a

showroom, and dedicated clinical and training

spaces. This integrated setup ensures seamless

collaboration between design, production,

and customer support teams – guaranteeing

consistency, quality, and responsiveness from

concept to delivery.

Active Design’s

mission is simple

yet profound: to

provide specialist

postural seating

solutions that

enhance quality

of life, and to set

the standard in

adaptable, clinically

driven design

– supporting

clinicians in

achieving the best

possible outcomes

for every individual.

We spoke to Steve

Doble, Business

Development

Manager at Active

Design and former

General Manager of

Southwest Seating

and Rehab Ltd, “Our

reputation stems from

clinically developed

products with strength,

longevity, and

reusability built in.

Every product is

manufactured in

the UK, minimising

carbon footprint

while ensuring

rapid turnaround

and consistent

quality. The company’s

modular systems are designed to

adapt and grow with the user, providing

long-term value and flexibility.

Reissue potential is another

key benefit – products like

the Neo Wheelbase can

be adjusted and reused across

different clients, helping NHS

services achieve sustainable

cost savings.”

“Equally important are Active Design’s

re-mouldable seating technologies –

Lynx and Matrix – which allow

clinicians to maintain an exact fit for

each individual, promoting comfort,

stability, and better postural

outcomes. Together, these

attributes make Active

Design’s products among the

most durable and adaptable

on the market – so it’s no

surprise that many competitors

actually use accessories from

Active Design in their own

solutions.”

Recently,

the company

has invested

in a robotic

foam milling

system and

facility, which have dramatically increased

production capacity and precision

for its carved foam (MAPS) range –

the Moulded Approach to Postural

Seating. Steve also explained some

other developments and offerings,

“We are truly proud of our range of

postural supports, including belts,

harnesses, and accessories, as they

combine exceptional build quality

with outstanding value for money. In

addition, we are continuing to develop

our re-mouldable seating solutions

and Neo Wheelbase system, both

of which have proven popular due to their

strength, stainless-steel construction, and

ability to ‘grow’ with the user through unique

telescopic designs.”

“Alongside our product range, we also

host a number of training events,

including our new Postural Seating

Course, which pilots on 23rd October.

The course is designed to help

healthcare professionals gain

the essential principles and

practical skills needed

for effective seating

prescription and will

be presented by our

clinical director. We are

also looking forward

to organising more

events in 2026.”

Looking ahead,

Active Design

aims to offered

its carved foam

production capabilities to

more customers. The company also

plans to grow its training and education

programmes, using its new clinic and meeting

facilities to host specialist workshops, clinical

demonstrations, CPD events, and professional

development events for therapists and

clinicians.

Active Design is proud to support healthcare

professionals through ongoing collaboration

and innovation and actively invites factory visits,

clinical demonstrations, and training sessions

at its new headquarters – giving clinicians and

partners the chance to see its technology and

processes in action.

Physical therapy and mental health

transformed with a cushion!

or Chloe Healy, who has has a neurological

Fcondition affecting her whole body and

curvature of the spine, physical therapy is now a

joy because of a cushion.

Comfortable Duo Plus can be similarly

moulded to provide the required

stabilisation to hips and pelvis. It even

allows formation of a pommel.

DISABILITY & MOBILITY Matters

The challenge

Chloe, 19, cannot walk because of her condition.

She relies on a dynamic stand device, an

Innowalk for aerobic exercise and joint mobility.

But she struggled to sit comfortably and gain

the full benefit of the equipment because of her

spine curvature.

Physiotherapist Lisa Clapp, from Reach Rehab

Physiotherapy, works with Chloe and knew of our

Comfortable Plus Duo adjustable posture cushion.

Lisa proposed it as an option – subject to

assessment.

The outcome

Chloe is supported and comfortable

when using the Innowalk with her

Comfortable Plus Duo. She can use

it for longer, and with greater ease,

enhancing her mobility, circulation

and aerobic exercise.

We trained Chloe’s mother Donna in how to

shape and adjust the cushion and fix it to

the correct contours without pressure points.

Donna can ensure the cushion always perfectly

supports Chloe, with a process that takes just a

few moments.

Why a remouldable cushion could help

Comfortable Plus Duo is essentially a bean bag

that can be fixed into shape to support and

stabilise the head and torso without pressure

points, thereby effectively reducing the risk of

pressure sores.

Once moulded to the contours required, air

within is extracted via pump to fix the ‘beans’

into shape. The process means it can be quickly

and easily adjusted, at home, to accommodate

finite adjustments to comfort, whether on a daily,

weekly or monthly basis.

What do they think of it?

Mum Donna says, “The Comfortable Plus Duo

has been a game changer! Chloe loves it, which

makes her physical therapy easier and improves

her mental health. It keeps its shape so well too:

I don’t have to alter the shape very often at all.”

Lisa added, “AAT’s Comfortable Plus Duo has

been pivotal in Chloe being able to obtain the

benefit of her Innowalk. We can precisely adjust

it to support her back and hips, with the right

degree of firmness to hold her, comfortably, in

the correct position.”

ottinghamshire County Council’s Adult Social Care &

NHealth department has devised a novel and innovative

way to contribute towards carbon net zero by providing

home adaptations that reduce building works.

The route has been to utilise AAT’s Sella stairclimbers

(stairclimbing wheelchairs), to be allocated, where

appropriate, to clients needing help with stairs.

Duo can be found at:

Nottinghamshire adopts green alternative in social

care adaptations

Equipment Loan Service Clinical Team Nottinghamshire

and Nottingham City Partnership, “We historically have

purchased AAT stairclimbers for use, where appropriate,

with children and adults who have impaired mobility. The

fact that they can be deployed quickly, with none of the

impact of building work, makes them a useful alternative to

major adaptations, especially with budgets under pressure

and the public sector drive to become carbon net zero.”

Using grant funding from the Council’s Green Investment

Fund, four Sella’s have been purchased with the aim of

providing an alternative to major adaptations that reduces

the carbon impact of building.

Unlike conventional stair solutions – stairlifts, throughfloor

lifts which require structural surveys, installation and

building works – the stairclimbers are mobile, portable

devices. No building work is required.

As an added benefit, when the original recipient no longer

requires the stairclimber, the Class 1 Medical Device can

be re-issued/recycled to another person, with no building

works to ‘make good,’ further enhancing the green

credentials and best value capital outlay of the equipment.

Further extending the capability of the stairclimbers, the

Department has bought three of AAT’s unique Universal

Seating System: Developed specifically for the Sella, the

Seating System combines back, seat, lateral and foot

supports with safety harness thus ensuring each user is

completely supported and safe when being transferred up

and down stairs.

Comments Sarah Hole, Children’s Senior Practitioner

Occupational Therapist for the Integrated Community

Added Dr Cate Bennett, Principal Occupational Therapist,

Adult Social Care and Health at Nottinghamshire County

Council, “The Principal Occupational Therapy role focuses

on leading the quality assurance of occupational therapy

practice, service development and improvement. It has a

strategic and operational focus, and covers work within

our organisation, and externally where it furthers the

development of social care and occupational therapy.”

Mobilty is the biggest disability in the UK 2 with stairs being

the second most common hazard in the home 3 , and one

of the three most common adaptations. AAT’s stairclimber

re-issue capability 1 is unique in the inter-floor transfer sector,

and is rapidly gaining momentum among local authorities

nationwide as a cost-effective and quick way to keep people

safe and in their own homes by managing the risk of stairs.

DISABILITY & MOBILITY Matters

Power you can count on:

Easystart and the Haze EX range

hen it comes to keeping your business,

mobility scooter, powered wheelchair or

Wstairlift running smoothly, there’s one thing

you can’t afford to compromise on – reliable power.

At Easystart, we’ve made it our mission to make

sure you always have the range you need, when

you need it. As a family-run, independent business,

we take pride in delivering more than just great

products. We deliver service, trust, and genuine

care – every single time.

One of the products we’re proudest to supply is the

Haze EX Range – a collection of exceptional AGM

deep-cycle batteries built to handle tough jobs with

ease. Whether you’re using your scooter for small trips

or use it daily to improve your living standards, the EX

Range is designed to perform, day in and day out.

Built for range

There is a major issue in the market. Scooters have

improved without a doubt. They go faster, they go

further, and they have electronic extras. This is amazing!

Expect how is this all powered, the batteries! Has

battery technology changed much in the last 30 years?

No. Have Haze created a solution, YES! Taddarrrr.

The Haze EX Range is known for the two R’s.

Reliability and range. Each battery is engineered

using Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) technology, which

means no leaks, no maintenance, and dependable

performance even in

demanding conditions. They’re

sealed, spill-proof, and ready

to work right out of the box

– so you can focus on what really

matters rather than worrying about upkeep.

What makes the ex-special so awesome, is the

increased Ah hour in the same box size. More lead,

more power, increased range. (What, no way, that is

awesome).

This range was created because Haze saw the

emerging issue within the market and sought to

solve the issue of increased demand on batteries,

without reinventing the wheel.

Thanks to their deep-cycle design, EX Range

batteries can handle repeated charging and

discharging without losing performance.

In short, the EX Range gives you confidence.

You know your power supply won’t let you down,

whether you’re running a solar setup, keeping

critical systems online, or powering mobility

equipment for independence and comfort.

If you have battery issues but do not want to move

over to lithium which is expensive and may mean

you have to change your scooter? Don’t worry, we

have the solution.

The Easystart difference

Of course, having great products is only half the story.

What truly sets Easystart apart is the way we do

business. As a family-run independent company, we

believe in looking after our customers the way we’d

want to be looked after ourselves. No call centres, no

complicated online ordering system – just real people

who know their products and care about getting it right.

We’ve built our reputation on trust, knowledge,

and service. Our team knows the Haze range

inside and out, and we’re always ready to offer

honest advice and help you find exactly the right

battery for your needs. That

personal touch is what keeps

our customers coming back

– and it’s something we’ll never

compromise on.

Reliable delivery, every time

Because we manage everything ourselves

– from stock handling to shipping – we can stay

nimble and responsive. If you need something

urgently, we’ll move mountains to make it happen.

That’s the benefit of dealing with a company that’s

small enough to care but big enough to deliver.

Powering the future together

At Easystart, we’re proud to represent Haze and

their exceptional Supreme EX Range – batteries that

stand for quality, durability, and innovation. But more

than that, we’re proud of the relationships we’ve

built with our customers over the years.

In a world of faceless distributors and automated

systems, we still believe in doing things the right way

– with a handshake, a promise, and a commitment to

doing our best for every single customer.

So, whether you’re powering up a renewable

project, keeping your mobility scooter running

smoothly, or ensuring your backup systems are

ready when you need them most, you can trust

Easystart and the Haze EX

Range to deliver dependable

energy – with the personal

service only a family business

can provide.

count on. Service you can

trust.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY ADVICE Company of the Month

Supporting the digital

journey of adult social

care providers

In this issue of Healthcare

Matters, we are pleased to

feature Digital Care Hub as our

Digital Technology Advice

Company of the Month

Michelle Corrigan

Social Care & Digital Innovation

Leader, Digital Care Hub

D

igital Care Hub stands at the forefront of the

UK’s mission to modernise adult social care,

serving as the national centre of excellence

for digital transformation and cyber security

across the sector.

Born from two government-funded programmes – Better

Security, Better Care and Digital Social Care – the Digital

Care Hub emerged in response to a growing recognition

that social care was being left behind in the digital

conversation. Digital Care Hub was created to bridge that

gap, empowering every care provider with the knowledge,

confidence, and tools to manage data securely and adopt

technology that truly enhances care. And, since Better

Security, Better Care, over 20,000 care organisations

have improved their cyber resilience, with DSPT

compliance also increasing from 11% to over 75%.

With a UK-wide footprint and a virtual core team

supported by regional partners across England,

Digital Care Hub connects care providers,

government, and the NHS – helping to build a safer,

smarter, and more connected future for social care.

We spoke to Michelle Corrigan, Director at Digital

Care Hub, about the team’s core focus and where

their competitive edge lies, “We help adult social

care providers strengthen their digital capability, data

protection, and cyber resilience. Our work covers

everything from digital standards and training to

innovation support and research. We translate complex

policy into clear, practical guidance – and we take a

care provider’s perspective. How can tech help them to

deliver better outcomes for the people they support?”

“I’d say our strength lies in trust and translation; we

make digital accessible to the care workforce. We are

independent, evidence-based, and deeply embedded in

the sector, and our products and services are designed for

care providers, not technologists, which is why it works.”

Digital Care Hub believes that digital innovation gives

care providers the opportunity to improve the quality

of care, be transparent and accountable, support

individuals to remain independent for longer, and

to improve the quality and efficiency of information

sharing between health and social care.

Which is why its philosophy is simple: better digital,

better care. They also believe technology should

enhance relationships, not replace them, hence

why the company is now expanding into new areas,

including the ethical use of AI to help care providers

test and adopt new technologies.

“We have transitioned into a standalone Community

Interest Company, giving us the independence to grow

our reach, form new partnerships, and respond quickly to

emerging digital priorities across health and social care.”

“We are also building a national innovation service

for social care, expanding our regional cyber skills

programme, and developing a social care data

observatory to unlock insights that improve safety

and quality. Our future is collaborative, data-driven,

and human-centred,” added Michelle.

AI tools such as models that generate or predict text

are already being used by many organisations across

social care to help with managing logs, scheduling,

or to make decisions quicker. However, there hasn’t

yet been a specific guidance for social care about

how to do it responsibly and ethically.

Credit: Hartono Creative Studio

A big initiative, developed by the Digital Care Hub,

Institute for Ethics in AI at Oxford University, and

Casson Consulting, came from when all three

brought together a cross-section of the sector, from

people with lived experience and frontline staff to

providers, policymakers, and technology suppliers.

Over the course of one year, they ran working groups

for these people to openly discuss AI in care. From

these discussions, qualities such as dignity, human

rights, independence, equality, and wellbeing were

raised as being vitally important values that should

define responsible AI in social care.

From this, an agreement and framework were

created to give these providers practical statements

that organisations now use to guide how they use or

adopt AI. Coming next will be an AI in Social Care

Alliance, which will ultimately become a shared hub

for gathering examples, best practices, and evidence

about both the good and not-so-good outcomes of

AI in care settings.

Alongside the framework, a Tech Pledge was also

launched with early signatories from technology

suppliers committing to transparency, ethical

development, and collaboration with care

stakeholders. So far, the response has been extremely

successful and positive with this UK initiative now

being recognised abroad as a potential model for

responsible AI adoption in care. But of course, the

hard work doesn’t stop there. The Government

are being urged to act, and there is a call for

all regulators and DHSC to now establish clear

accountability and standards for AI in social care.

Championing statements like ‘no data for data’s

sake,’ and highlighting important messages such as

‘tackling the data risks of ‘bring your own device’ in

adult social care,’ Digital Care Hub is providing useful

tools that are helping to transform the use of AI in

social care, not just for today, but for the future.

Bringing The Occupational Therapy

community together

T

he Occupational Therapy Show 2025 will

take place on the 26th-27th November at the

NEC Birmingham.

The OT Show is the UK’s leading event for

practitioners, educators, suppliers, and allied

professionals working across healthcare, social care,

housing, education, and independent practice.

rising pressures of burnout, while ‘Designing better

home adaptations’ considers the functionality

of design, emphasising that OTs must balance

safety, compliance and user dignity. Alongside

the headline sessions, on-stand education and

exhibitor-led theatres promise focused talks and live

demonstrations that bring new ideas directly to the

exhibition floor.

At a time when health needs are rapidly evolving

and innovation is reshaping practice, the OT Show

provides an unparalleled forum for inspiration,

learning, and collaboration. Free to attend for

occupational therapy professionals, the two-day

event offers more than 100 hours of CPD-accredited

sessions, practical workshops, keynote lectures,

exhibitor demonstrations, and interactive forums.

Organisers describe the show as being ‘by occupational

therapists, for occupational therapists,’ ensuring that

the programme is carefully aligned with the realities of

modern practice. Whether you are an NHS clinician,

working in housing adaptations, delivering care in

schools or communities, or building an independent

practice, the content is designed to meet current

challenges while opening up new opportunities.

The conference programme remains a central

attraction, delivered across multiple theatres and

featuring expert speakers from the NHS, the Royal

College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), and

leading organisations across the sector. Topics span

from adaptive environments and accessible design to

resilience and workforce wellbeing.

Two sessions in particular stand out this year.

‘Thriving as an OT: Building Resilience and Growth

Through CPD’ explores strategies to counter the

Innovation is always at the heart of the OT Show, and

this year is no exception. The Poster Zone will once

again showcase cutting-edge research, case studies,

and pilot projects that reflect the creativity and problemsolving

at the core of the profession. A brand-new

feature for 2025 is the Elizabeth Casson Feature Zone,

developed with the Elizabeth Casson Foundation.

Celebrating the legacy of one of OT’s founding figures,

this space connects Casson’s pioneering vision with

contemporary innovation, encouraging attendees to

reflect on the profession’s roots while embracing its

future. The Showcase and Innovation Programme adds

to this focus, offering opportunities to see, test, and

discuss the latest products, technologies, and practice

solutions in real time.

The exhibition itself is another major draw, with

more than 200 suppliers gathered under one roof. It

provides a unique opportunity to explore the latest

in assistive technology, adaptive equipment, digital

tools, home adaptation solutions, and allied services.

Exhibitors will not only display their products but

also run live demonstrations and host interactive

discussions at their stands, ensuring visitors can

engage directly with new solutions and innovations.

Among the highlights this year are Sensore by

Graphene Trace, offering continuous automated

pressure ulcer prevention with real-time pressure

mapping and AI-powered alerts; Sunday Care

Therapy, a provider of personalised home-based

care; Richardson Care, recognised for its personcentred

residential care for adults with learning

disabilities, acquired brain injury and complex needs;

HC21 Group, a leading distributor of medical devices

across Europe; EDGE Services, specialists in people

handling training; and Veigel UK, manufacturers of

dual controls and car adaptation solutions for people

with disabilities.

Beyond the conference programme and exhibition,

the OT Show is renowned for its ability to connect

people. More than 5,000 occupational therapy

and allied professionals are expected to attend,

creating invaluable opportunities for peer learning,

collaboration, and mentoring. Whether in formal

networking spaces, during coffee breaks between

sessions, or in conversations sparked while walking

through the exhibition, the event fosters a genuine

sense of community.

Attendees frequently remark on the power of these

connections, noting that the show is as much about

people as it is about content.

Past visitors have described the experience as

‘everything under one roof’ and ‘an amazing

opportunity for OTs.’ Others highlight the chance to

connect with exhibitors and practitioners, while many

call it ‘inspiring and motivating.’ These testimonials

capture the true spirit of the event: a gathering

that reinvigorates practice, sparks new ideas, and

reminds occupational therapists why their work

matters.

New remotely lockable

cabinet will help manage

medication for people with

mental health issues

REMLOK, designed by PAMAN, the UK’s

leading medication support company, will

also help address medication non-adherence

A

new remotely operated, secure

medicine cabinet has today been

launched by the UK’s leading

medication support company, PAMAN.

REMLOK has been developed for those at risk

of accidental or deliberate overdose, and those

at risk of self-harm.

It is an extension of the market-leading,

patented PAMAN medication monitoring

service, which is staffed by registered and

qualified pharmacy technicians who contact

patients at home via an audio/video hub to

monitor them taking their medication on time

and at the right dosage.

If medicine isn’t replaced in the cabinet the

system can alert a nominated clinician, or call

the emergency services. It is particularly suited

to those taking high-risk medicines, including

epilepsy drugs, clozapine, lithium, warfarin and

antipsychotics.

Using a custom app, the PAMAN team can open

the cabinet at the agreed time to monitor the

removal of medicines, their administration and

replacement, then close and lock it. The PAMAN

system receives a status signal from the cabinet

every 30 seconds.

All PAMAN pharmacy technicians are trained

and registered with the Pharmaceutical Society

and General Pharmacy Council.

Norman

Niven, CEO

at PAMAN

(pictured),

commented,

“REMLOK is

part of our ongoing

product

development

programme

designed

to support

people with mental health issues who are living

in the community.”

“We are dedicated to finding ways of helping

those people, and we strongly believe that

our medication monitoring service is a key

part of this.”

REMLOK will also help address medication

non-adherence, which is when patients

unintentionally or deliberately do not take their

medicine, a huge global issue that costs health

services an enormous amount of money and

leads to poorer health outcomes.

According to statista, community pharmacies

dispensed over a billion prescribed items in

England in 2023-24, an average of 20 items for

every person.

However, the landmark 2003 World Health

Organisation report on adherence estimated

MEDICAL DEVICES & TECHNOLOGY Matters

that patients do not take between 30 and

50% of medicines prescribed for long-term

conditions.

Niven added, “Far too many people simply don’t

take the medicines they have been prescribed.

This causes the immediate problem that they

are likely to need another GP appointment, or

be admitted or re-admitted to hospital.”

“Whatever the cause, many studies have shown

that adherence rates can be improved by the

simple act of monitoring patients at the time

their meds are due.”

The problem has become more acute in recent

years as we have an ageing population, which

means an unavoidable increase in people simply

forgetting to take their meds.

However, intentional non-adherence is the real

problem.

The conclusions from a major European

review of intervention studies (comparing

their effectiveness), noted that “electronically

monitored adherence feedback is potentially

an effective approach to enhancing medication

adherence.”

Non-adherence is a major issue for those with

mental health issues.

Niven continued, “People with mental health

issues often encounter challenges that can

hinder their ability to take their prescribed

medications. This can lead to poorer treatment

outcomes, increased symptom severity, and a

higher risk of relapse.”

“Many experience cognitive impairments

that affect their memory. This can make it

challenging for them to remember to take

their medication. And many have complex

medication regimes.”

“Overdosing, both accidental and intentional, is

a significant concern.”

The PAMAN system replaces the need for home

carers, who would otherwise be required to

visit patients at home each and every time their

meds were to be taken, a virtually impossible

task both logistically and financially.

Rehabilitation matters

herapy Expo 2025 will take place on the 26th-

27th November at the NEC Birmingham.

T

Therapy Expo is the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary

event for professionals dedicated to preventing,

treating, and rehabilitating musculoskeletal and

neurological conditions. This flagship UK gathering

brings together practitioners from physiotherapy,

osteopathy, chiropractic, sports therapy, massage,

exercise rehabilitation, neurology and related fields

– essentially everyone with a role in preventing,

treating or rehabilitating musculoskeletal or

neurological conditions.

Over two packed days, delegates

can expect an immersive blend

of hands-on learning, live

demonstrations, expert lectures

and business insight – all

underpinned by CPD accreditation.

For many attendees, Therapy Expo

offers not just new knowledge

and techniques, but also fresh

connections, innovation spotting,

and inspiration for their clinical or business practice.

This year’s theme is ‘Rehabilitation Matters,’

signalling a renewed emphasis on how rehab (in

the broadest sense) underpins health, longevity

and function. The programme is designed to bridge

clinical, practical and technological innovations –

from grassroots settings to elite sport.

A key addition is the Business Advice Theatre, a

new strand aimed at helping clinic owners, private

practitioners or those considering scaling. Expect

sessions on marketing, client retention, pricing

structures, operational efficiency, and leveraging

digital tools. As the demand for MSK services

continues to rise amid economic pressures, this

practical business focus is timely.

Another stand-out is the Demo Zone, an area

dedicated to showcasing the latest therapies,

devices and modalities. Live demonstrations will run

throughout the show on topics including electrical

stimulation, flossing, neurophysiology, seated

exercise strategies and more. The Demo Zone

also features sessions on business growth, ethics,

modalities, sport & exercise, and specific conditions.

Across the wider conference, attendees will find

five major content streams woven throughout the

programme. The Modalities & Techniques stream

offers deep dives into manual therapy, shockwave,

taping, pain modulation and other hands-on

approaches. The Sports, Exercise & Fitness sessions

explore rehabilitation strategies for athletes, the

prescribing of exercise, recovery methods, the

use of wearables and approaches to prevention.

In Ethics, Professionalism &

Clinical Reasoning, experts

tackle complex cases, the role

of AI in clinical practice, ethical

dilemmas and frameworks for

effective decision-making. The Business Growth

& Career Development stream provides practical,

real-world advice to help practitioners build and

sustain successful practices, from marketing

strategies to career progression. Finally, the Specific

Conditions stream addresses key clinical challenges

such as chronic pain, concussion, foot and ankle

biomechanics, and neurological rehabilitation,

ensuring that delegates can deepen their expertise in

areas directly relevant to their patient populations.

The 2025 Conference Programme comprises over

140 CPD-accredited sessions across theatres, demo

zones and practical spaces with topics ranging from

ACL rehabilitation, dry needling, and concussion

management, to foot & ankle biomechanics,

neurorehabilitation techniques and sports medicine.

New for 2025, the Business Advice theatre will be

entirely dedicated to translating clinical know-how

into a sustainable clinic or independent practice.

Sessions include ‘The no-fluff marketing plan

for therapists who hate marketing,’ ‘Know your

numbers,’ ‘Ethical client retention,’ and ‘Futureproof

your career: harnessing YouTube for income,

influence, and impact.’

Beyond lectures, there will be practical, hands-on

zones – where skills can be honed under expert

oversight. These sessions help bridge the gap

between theoretical learning and clinical application,

and are designed to help delegates take new

modalities and techniques back into their clinics.

The programme also offers valuable business

insight, guiding practitioners through marketing,

clinic management, branding, growth strategies

and long-term sustainability.

Beyond the sessions, the show fosters networking

and collaboration, bringing together peers,

exhibitors, clinicians, educators, suppliers and

potential partners under one roof. Delegates will

also gain exposure to the latest innovations, with

emerging devices, software and therapy tools

showcased live, giving them direct access to

vendor expertise and cutting-edge solutions

shaping the future of practice.

Therapy Expo is one of the few UK events

that consciously bridges the disciplines of

physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors,

sports therapists, exercise rehabilitation instructors,

massage therapists, and neurologists, encouraging

cross-pollination of knowledge.

This year’s show promises to be more than just

a trade fair - it will be a dynamic, interdisciplinary

forum for clinical discourse, business growth and

innovation in rehabilitation. Whether you’re eager to

sharpen your manual skills, adopt the latest tech,

rethink your clinic’s business model, or connect with

peers across allied disciplines, the show offers a

curated mix of content, interaction and discovery.

Stepping into simplicity

n modern practice, the hardest thing to protect isn’t

Irevenue or reputation – it’s time. Every form to fill,

every new product to evaluate, every explanation

to repeat adds another small weight to the working

day. The more options clinicians are offered, the less

space they have to focus on what really matters.

Preview

Footcare UK is taking a deliberate step in the

opposite direction: curating solutions that work

intuitively, explain themselves, and fit seamlessly

into daily clinical life. The aim is not to multiply

choice but to restore clarity – in how products are

used, discussed, and presented to patients.

At the forefront is Superfeet ® , one of the most

clinically validated insole brands worldwide. Its

structured heel cup and carbon-reinforced cap

guide natural motion rather than block it, supporting

reliable outcomes without moulding, lab delays

or lengthy explanations. The streamlined Active

Range distils that philosophy further, with just two

refined models – one cushioned, one structured –

simplifying fittings to two essential questions: what

is the patient’s arch height, and do they prefer a

softer or firmer feel underfoot?

With premium POS displays that bring a modern lift

to clinical spaces and a 60-day patient satisfaction

guarantee, Superfeet offers a professional-grade

solution that’s easy to recommend and reassuringly

familiar to patients.

If Superfeet ® offers structure, then Tuli’s ® brings the

cushioning that defines comfort. Its patented waffle

design mimics the body’s natural fat-pad mechanics,

creating lifetime-guaranteed heel cups and plantarfasciitis

supports that absorb impact and restore

comfort – and in this case, ‘lifetime guarantee’

really does mean life.

Powering the future of oxygen therapy

yperbaric Systems Ltd will be exhibiting at

HTherapy Expo on 26th-27th November at the

NEC, Birmingham on Stand: TA10.

Therapy Expo brings together exhibitors across

equipment, technologies, tools, and clinical innovations

– and Hyperbaric Systems is no exception.

At this year’s show, Hyperbaric Systems will

showcase their expertise in the manufacture,

maintenance, and sales of life-support systems and

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) chambers.

Originally established in the diving and tunnelling

industries, Hyperbaric Systems has since expanded

its scope to include standard and bespoke HBOT

chambers, offering the same rigorous levels of

technical excellence, safety, and operational support

that have long defined their work in other highpressure

environments.

With over 20 years of experience, the company’s

engineering pedigree is rooted in life-support and

pressure management

systems. Their capabilities

– from oxygen transfer

schemes and fire suppression

systems to full-face masks

and fume extraction

solutions – underline a deep

understanding of safetycritical

design. This expertise

has already earned the trust

of clinics implementing HBOT,

including one new client

from the MS Therapy sector,

who praised their ‘attentive

consideration of problems and

excellent service.’

Recognising that every

therapy centre has unique

needs, Hyperbaric Systems offers flexible, bespoke

configurations – from large multi-person chambers

to compact or containerised systems. This tailored

approach ensures that clinics receive a system

designed specifically for their space and purpose,

That same thinking continues with the X Brace

– designed to replicate kinesiology taping around

the heel and plantar fascia, giving patients an easy,

low-profile way to apply the same support technique

between appointments.

OrthoSleeve ® takes that independence further,

with compression and bracing sleeves for knees,

ankles, wrists and feet. Each design uses graduated

compression zones to aid circulation, reduce fatigue

and reduce the need for time-consuming taping –

keeping recovery consistent long after patients

leave the clinic.

Simplicity has a business logic as well as a clinical

one. Products that explain themselves are easier

to trust, easier for patients to adopt, and easier

for clinics to recommend with confidence. In a

profession where minutes matter, Footcare UK’s

philosophy is clear: focus on what works, leave out

Prioritising the release of pain

re you looking for an approach that transforms

Athe complexity of chronic pain into simple,

practical skills that can be seamlessly integrated?

Every day, healthcare and wellbeing professionals

report facing similar challenges:

: Seeing an increasing number of individuals

experiencing pain that persists, fluctuates,

or recurs beyond the usual healing period

: Struggling to identify a clear cause, and

suspecting that the pain is being amplified or

sustained by more than physical damage

: Feeling confused or frustrated when pain

continues despite investing significant time, skill,

and professional expertise in approaches such as

manual therapy, exercise programmes, education,

graded movement, and lifestyle interventions

: Being overwhelmed by the current shift from a

purely biomedical perspective to the now widely

recognised biopsychosocial understanding

of pain, and unsure how to address the

psychological and social factors influencing pain.

Chronic Pain Release Therapy, known worldwide

as Steven Blake’s OldPain2Go ® offers an

innovative and effective approach that integrates

pain neuroscience and logic to help individuals

release long-term pain, predominantly within a

single focused session.

“By combining our innovative, logical perspective

with effective brain–body communication techniques

that directly engage the automatic processes often

operating beyond conscious awareness, we help

individuals understand why protection responses

persist and guide the brain to re-evaluate the level

of threat in light of the current circumstances. This

allows the system to complete its learning and stand

down from unnecessary protection.”

Prioritising the release of pain rather than merely

managing it, this practical, non-invasive approach

requires no physical manipulation, can be delivered in

person or online, and compliments existing recovery

strategies to achieve faster, more effective outcomes.

At this year’s Therapy Expo, Steven will deliver

clear, accessible explanations grounded in modern

pain science, along with a fresh perspective on

how lasting release is possible. His talks blend

science, logic, and compassion, bridging the gap

between research and real-world relief, inspiring

both professionals and the public alike.

explore how this evolving approach can enhance

your professional impact, expand your toolkit, and

help more individuals live free from long-term pain.

movement, and independence through the power

of water.

If you have a background in health, fitness,

Medstrom ECO: The future of patient hygiene

What is ECO?

In a sector that has seen

little innovation, the

Medstrom ECO portable

patient shower offers a

revolutionary alternative

to traditional bed bathing.

Using hydro-molecular

technology, it transforms

water into small droplets,

dispensing at 100 microns

through a stylus. This

precision washing ensures

only intended areas are

cleaned, preventing

water from spreading to

surrounding surfaces or

dispersing into the air.

Addressing the challenges

of patient washing

Traditional bed bathing

can be unsustainable,

undignified, and timeconsuming

for both patients and caregivers.

The process typically involves manually

adjusting water temperature, using large

amounts of water, and ‘scrubbing’ patients,

which can be harsh on sensitive skin.

Caregivers can also experience physical strain

from awkward postures while repositioning

patients, increasing injury risk.

ECO transforms this experience by making

patient washing quicker, more comfortable, and

efficient. Its automatic water

heating system maintains

a consistent temperature

for the wash duration,

eliminating repeated refilling

of pulp bowls. With each

wash typically taking 10-15

minutes, ECO frees up

crucial time for patient care.

Additionally, the hand-held

stylus delivers a targeted,

warm spray, reducing

excessive scrubbing while

ensuring a thorough clean.

By minimising the physical

effort required to reposition

patients, it also reduces

manual handling strain for

caregivers. At the same

time, the stylus empowers

patients to participate in

their own hygiene when

possible, restoring dignity

and independence. Specifically, plus-size, endof-life

and critical care patients who face the

most considerable physical challenges. Instead

of simply being ‘wiped down,’ patients feel

refreshed and truly clean, able to wash their hair

and reach areas that would otherwise be difficult.

ECO also significantly reduces water

consumption, cutting average usage per

patient from 10 litres to just 500ml – supporting

the NHS net-zero sustainability goals.

Patient and caregiver reception

Since its deployment across 40 hospital

wards, ECO has received overwhelmingly

positive feedback. One Healthcare Assistant

noted, “It was quicker than using a [traditional

wash] bowl, less water was wasted, and the

bed was less wet.”

Likewise, many clinicians realised that use

of ECO significantly reduced use of towels

and wipes during the bed-bathing process.

Patients have also praised the experience,

with one noting, “It’s been great washing my

hair, I feel fresh and clean. And I can wash

areas I can’t get to as easily.”

across the UK.

Speaking on the newly formed

partnership, Ramsy Labassi, Marketing

Manager at Bradshaw Electric Vehicles,

said, “Bradshaw’s ethos has always

been to offer cost-effective and efficient

solutions that make everyday tasks

simpler and easier, and the Glutton fits

the bill perfectly. Waste management

operations are evolving as councils and

organisations from the private sector face

increasing pressure to deliver cleaner

environments while reducing emissions

and operational costs.”

“Glutton complements our waste and

street cleansing range of vehicles. It

caters to a direct need for customers,

both existing and new, who are seeking

a practical solution to keep either towns,

cities or industrial sites clean.”

“Adding Glutton to our line-up enables us

to deliver a complete end-to-end solution

for waste management and urban

maintenance, and as such, we’re proud

to have been appointed as their exclusive

UK distribution partner.”
