Turf Care
Introducing the Eco Clipper
Electric Mowing Systems
Eco Clipper offers large area mowers that help
field managers minimise mowing costs while
producing a professional finish. The Eco Clipper
mowing system was originally developed
to replace the cylinder mower in turfgrass
production. The aim was to retain the cutting
performance of a well-tuned cylinder mower,
but not the high maintenance requirements and
sensitivity to mowing conditions, such as wet
grass and weeds.
The system
The smooth cutting decks with fast spinning small
blades ensure a high quality of cut and a good
distribution of clippings. Thanks to the electrically
driven blades, the mower is very economical and
quiet. The large wheels and smart mower deck
linking system ensures good contour following
and enables high mowing speeds.
The benefits
Users report high productivity gains and
appreciate the low maintenance requirements
and the ability to schedule mowing even under
less favourable mowing conditions, such as early
morning dew and wet autumn, which can often
prevent removal of grass clippings.
The models
Municipalities and sports field and park managers
have discovered the advantages of the Eco
Clipper mowing system. For them, Eco Clipper
now offers two versions: the 4.11m wide EC-FM4
Sport and the 3.43m wide EC-FM343.
Both are positioned in front of the
tractor, providing excellent visibility and
comfort for the tractor driver.
The EC-FM4 Sport has four
independent mowing decks, mows till
4.11m wide and folds up to 2.5m width.
It only needs 50hp, but fits best to small
size agricultural tractors. To meet the demand
for more lightweight mowers suitable for most
park tractors from 40hp upwards, the Eco Clipper
FM343 has been developed. This three-part Eco
Clipper front mower cuts 343cm wide and folds
to a transport width of 170cm. As with the larger
411cm wide EC-FM4, electricity is provided by a
PTO-powered generator behind the tractor.

Energy & Power
Spring
date set for
Wolverhampton
solar farm
A solar farm which will power Wolverhampton’s
New Cross Hospital for three quarters of the year
is set to be up and running this spring.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), City
of Wolverhampton Council, and project partners
including Vital Energi, have built the solar farm at
a former landfill site the size of 22 football pitches,
adjacent to Bentley Way, Wednesfield. It is set to
open in April.
The facility will power the entire hospital site with
self-generated renewable energy for around 288
days a year, and save the Trust around £15-20
million over the next 20 years – money which will
be put back into frontline healthcare. The solar
farm will produce 6.9MWp of renewable energy to
New Cross Hospital and will generate an estimated
carbon saving of 1,583 tonnes of CO 2 e per annum.
More than 15,000 electricity generating solar
panels have been installed at the site by main
contractor Vital Energi. Work to secure the 40-plus
acre brownfield site included protecting badger
setts, and removing methane.
The project, combined with existing green
technologies, allows the Trust to move away
from reliance on the national grid and to reduce
its exposure to rising electricity costs in the next
two decades. It also supports the Trust’s goal of
reducing its carbon emissions by 25% by 2025, &
of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Editron EC-C1700 electric converter
Danfoss Power Solutions’ Editron EC-C1700B-420
electric converter has been named a Davidson
Prize winner in the annual AE50 Awards program,
highlighting its value to the agricultural machinery
industry. The American Society of Agricultural
and Biological Engineers and the Association of
Equipment Manufacturers presented the award
to Danfoss on Friday, March 1, at the Commodity
Classic event in Houston, Texas.
ASABE’s AE50 Awards programme recognises
product innovations in agricultural, food, and
biological systems. Honorees include machines,
systems, components, software, and services.
Davidson Prize winners are selected from the
top-scoring AE50 Award winners, representing
the best of the year’s newly introduced products.
Winners are projected to have a significant impact
on agricultural production, efficiency, or safety.
The new Editron EC-C1700B-420 is a heavy-duty

Pye Homes are ensuring they
stay ahead of the curve when it
comes to thermal efficiency and
legislation, by already fitting low
carbon air source heat pumps
(ASHPs) – a programme which
began three years before it will be
legally required – across its Church
Farm development in Radley.
While traditional gas boilers can still be fitted to
existing homes, all new housing built from January
2025 must feature a low carbon alternative, such as
air source heat pumps.
These work like refrigerators in reverse, taking
heat from the air, compressing it into liquid which
increases its temperature. The pump will then
transfer the heat to the home’s central heating
system. While traditional gas boilers are 98%
efficient, air source heat pumps have the potential
to be up to 400% efficient.
levels of up to 1,200 volts DC/690 volts AC, making
it one of the first 690 VAC mobile converters on
the market. Editron EC-C converters are built with
components that can handle double the number
of load cycles compared to components used in
standard industrial inverters, making them a better
fit for mobile applications such as agricultural
machinery. The converters’ high-performance
vector control drives electric motors accurately
and smoothly. They can control induction motors,
permanent magnet motors, and reluctanceassisted
permanent magnet motors with or without
sensors.

Housebuilder ‘pushing the
boundaries’ of thermal efficiency
in terms of carbon reduction,”
says Andrew Cockroft, Head of
Technical at Pye Homes.
“We’re already achieving a high
EPC rating in our homes under
current building regulations, but
are getting ready to do that under
the new regulations which come
into place in 2027.”
He adds, “At Church Farm, on average we have
improved the current building regulations level of
carbon emissions by as much as 60% as a result of
adopting air source heat pumps combined with the
photovoltaic panels that we installed.”
Air source heat pumps will be fitted as standard

Connecting countries electricity markets
Interconnecting countries
electricity markets could make
the markets much more stable,
thus price differences (also
called price spreads) between
neighbouring countries are less
volatile and more predictable,
according to new research by
emlyon business school.
In fact, the researchers showed
that the coupling of electricity markets is likely to
create a more equal cost, creating less disparity in
energy costs across European countries.
These are the findings of research by Lorenz
Schneider, Professor of Finance at emlyon business
school, alongside Erwan Pierre, Quantitative
Researcher at BCM Energy. The researchers wanted
to understand the impact of
interconnected markets on
spread volatility, as well as
investment in these markets.
Many countries in the European
Union are increasingly
interconnecting their electricity
markets, with countries like
France, Germany, Austria,
Poland and Czech Republic
already connected at certain periods of the day.
To conduct this research, Schneider and Pierre
used a dataset from the period of January 2017
to August 2022, comprising European hourly
electricity prices and European monthly futures
prices from the European Energy Exchange, as well
as European monthly auction prices from the Joint
Allocation Office.
The researchers created a model which considered
the price of electricity throughout Europe between
various time periods, as well as the volatility of
the market throughout, identifying a vast increase
in volatility after September 2021, likely caused
by a number of issues such as global conflicts,
post-covid economic revivals and extreme weather
conditions.
The model was then used to test for the impact
of interconnectedness on the volatility of price
spreads, as well as the monthly investment in
spread options that were available to companies
based off their future predictions in the volatile
market.

Electric Vehicles Company of the Year
Bradshaw Electric Vehicles: New
factory expansion for early 2025
We’re delighted to feature Bradshaw Electric Vehicles
as our Electric Vehicles Company of the Year for
outstanding innovation in transportation solutions
Spotlight on Bradshaw
Bradshaw Electric Vehicles (EV) is the UK’s
largest manufacturer of industrial electric
vehicles. Supplying to a diverse range of
end-user applications from manufacturing
and line feed, logistics and distribution,
hospitals, railways, airports, high-profile
sporting and music events to waste
movement, the extensive range includes:
utility vehicles, electric road vehicles,
tow trucks, load carriers, people carriers,
walkalong tugs and bin trailers. Established
in 1976, the Peterborough-based company
is focused on delivering first-class electric
transportation solutions to meet Net Zero
targets in a cost-effective manner.
In addition to the Bradshaw range, the
company is the official UK distributor for
Goupil. Goupil, a subsidiary of Polaris Inc,
has been a global leader in electric vehicle
manufacturing for over 25 years.
The Goupil range of utility vehicles play a
crucial role within the product range. The
lineup is ideal for low-emission zones,
city centres, and towns across stop-andgo
applications such as waste collection,
watering, leaf collection, and deliveries.
As the electric vehicle market continues
to expand, the demand for utility vehicles
that can serve multiple functions while
minimising environmental impact is
growing. Goupil’s utility vehicles, known
for their robust performance, durability,
and adaptability, perfectly meet these
needs. Whether it’s for logistics, facility
management, or public sector uses, these
utility vehicles offer a greener solution
without compromising on efficiency or
reliability.
Bradshaw is additionally a leading and
trusted UK dealer for Club Car: the industry’s
foremost name in golf buggies, passenger
vehicles, and utility vehicles. Since 1998,
Bradshaw has been supplying an exceptional
range of Club Car products that epitomise
quality, versatility, and superior performance.
We caught up with Marketing Manager,
Ramsy Labassi, to see how Bradshaw has
fared over the last twelve months and to
gain insights into future developments, “As
with the rest of the country, we’ve had to
deal with the aftermath of COVID, cost-ofliving
crisis, conflicts overseas, and supply
chain issues. Where similar businesses have
downsized, restructured, or gone out of
business entirely, Bradshaw has weathered
the storms. We’re delighted to say that
we recorded record sales in 2023 and the
Electric Vehicle Division, Golf and Rentals
all outperformed previous figures with an
upwards trajectory.
“Our new factory extension is an exciting
development for Bradshaw Electric
Vehicles and will be fully functioning for
the start of the New Year. The expansion
will effectively double the size of our
production facility, which is a testament to
our company’s growth and commitment
to meet the increasing market demand for
electric vehicles. This significant investment
indicates our confidence in the future of the
electric vehicle industry but also ensures
that we continue to deliver high-quality,
eco-friendly transportation solutions to our
clients.

“Furthermore, we increased our territory
in the golf market, effectively doubling our
area, and we’ve brought on a new Area
Sales Manager. The National Golf Centre
at Woodhall Spa has selected Club Car
to effectively supply its first fleet of golf
cars. This is the first time golf buggies
have been allowed on the prestigious two
championship courses.
“Finally, we were awarded the prestigious
5000 Club award by Club Car for selling
over 5,000 Club Car vehicles, becoming only
the third dealership in Europe to reach the
milestone.”
New waste regulations: Meeting demand
In spring 2025, all businesses in England will
need to ensure food waste is separated from
other waste, with the introduction of new
recycling regulations. This comes hot on the
heels after successful previous launches in
Scotland and Wales and is a key driver of
more sustainable food waste management.
In light of these new food waste regulations,
Bradshaw have introduced three new vehicle
bodies for the collection of food waste,
in areas with limited access by traditional
refuse collection vehicles (RCVs). The
Bradshaw PFB1500-1100 Pull-Along Tug,
Goupil G4 and Goupil G4 LWB are now
available with a high-tip waste collector and
bin lifter.
The G2 and G4 continue to be popular
models especially the G4 pick-up and
pressure washer combination. This year
Bradshaw have introduced the long wheel
base G4 which offers an increase in volume.
Why choose Bradshaw Electric Vehicles? –
Longstanding benefits
Bradshaw Electric Vehicles have a reputation
for manufacturing some of the sector's
safest, most robust and versatile products.
The Club Car and Goupil Brands are class
leaders in their own right with a long and rich
history and understanding of their markets.
All vehicles work in tough, hardworking
applications, so it's imperative they live up to
the demands thrown at them.
“Offering a robust range is only half the
solution. Bradshaw intuitively understands
the demands of the sectors we work with
and the reliance upon our products to keep
customer’s operations running smoothly,
which is why we pride ourselves on
providing first-class service and support.”
The future is electric
As this year draws to a close, Bradshaw has
been spending time with leasing companies,
introducing them to the exceptional features
of the Goupil G2 & G4, which incidentally
was showcased at this October’s Fleet &
Mobility Live at the NEC. The team took the
Goupil G4 UK Box Van and Compact Bin
Lifter to the leading trade show to inspire
waste management solutions in urban
environments.
“It’s been a busy few months for trade
shows. We honed in on the recycling,
resource, waste and wider environmental
services industry with our exhibit at this
September’s RWM Show, as part of ESS
Expo at the NEC.
“We took along the Goupil G4 with new RCV
body with Rear Bin Lift and G4 Box Van. Back
in June, we also attended the Road Transport
Expo at NAEC Stoneleigh and the Bradshaw
AV6 was on show at the Dubai Airport
Show this year, rounding up a busy twelve
months.”

Sustainability is a growing focus in facilities
management, so we asked Peter, how do
Trianco’s products contribute to energy
efficiency and reducing carbon footprints in
buildings.
“Trianco’s products are well-suited for
modern sustainability targets, helping
buildings reduce their environmental impact
and operating costs while maintaining
effective and energy efficient heating

sectors, and we work hard to ensure that
each heating solution is entirely tailored
to the requirements of each, whether it be
for residential, commercial or public sector
facilities.
“Trianco is proud of its ability to adapt

Water Dispenser Manufacturer of the Year
Borg & Overström: UK manufactu
taking sustainable workplace
drinking solutions by storm
In this issue of Building & Facilities News, we are
delighted to welcome back Borg & Overström as our
celebrated Water Dispenser Manufacturer of the Year
Borg & Overström is unquestionably a global
leader in hygienic drinking water dispensing
solutions. With a mission to provide
premium filtered water solutions, which are
hygienic, efficient and beautifully designed,
Borg & Overström has been leading the field
for the last 22 years.
Spotlight on Borg & Overström
Every Borg & Overström drinking water
dispenser and integrated tap system defies
convention, and as true market disruptors,
the global powerhouse is a force to be
reckoned with.
With headquarters in Norwich, Norfolk, the
company manufactures all their products
from their zero-waste production facility.
Customers can experience the full product
range at their showrooms in Norwich and
London, or virtually from anywhere in the
world. With strategic sites in The Netherlands
and USA, and a network of distributors
in over 50 countries, Borg & Overstrom
demonstrate both the true global reach of
the company, and the need for sustainable
water coolers around the world.
With 2024 starting to draw to a close, we
caught up with Sally Laurie, Marketing
Manager, to gain further insights into this
year’s trading success, “The past 12 months
have been incredibly busy and positive for
the company. We’ve made significant strides,
particularly in entering new markets, with
a strong focus on the hotels, hospitality,
and healthcare sectors alongside further
expansion of our workplace and foodservice
markets. A major highlight was the opening
of our new showroom in Moorgate,
London, which has allowed us to showcase
our products more effectively to a wider
audience. We’ve also continued to develop
and refine our product offerings, placing
great emphasis on communicating how our
solutions help eliminate the need for singleuse
plastics, save energy and contribute to
removing microplastics from drinking water,
reinforcing our commitment to sustainability
and water quality.”
Post-COVID landscape success: Replacing
plastic, saving on energy costs
This year has seen a shift away from remote
and even hybrid-working, as many workers
return back to the workplace. This has
reactivated workplace wellbeing as a top
priority, especially within office renovations,
which are looking to incentivise staff and
improve wellbeing with quality, filtered
refreshments. This has worked in tandem
with the gradual phasing out of single-use
plastics and the drive for reducing energy
consumption, as public consciousness
embraces more sustainable facilities and
practices.
Borg & Overström has seen a rise in demand
for premium bottle-less water dispensers and
integrated tap systems, which complement
new-style contemporary offices, with
further demand coming from the hotel and
leisure sectors. Workers, guests and leisure
consumers now expect to see sustainable
solutions and re-fill points, where they can
refill water bottles and enjoy chilled water.
As businesses and buildings look to meet
ESG goals, single-use plastic water bottles
do little to enhance environmental practices
and come with, significant logistical and
environmental issues, such as transportation,
storage, refrigeration, waste and cost.
“Our T3 taps are being installed in breakout
areas and canteens, for self-serve cups of
steaming tea and to beverage stations and
cocktail bars, where our Deep Sparkle ®
sparkling water provides instant access to
refreshingly bubbly, bottle-less sparkling
water,” adds Sally.
With increasing emphasis on sustainable
suppliers and the UK Government’s Net Zero
2050 targets Borg & Overström made the
move to become a UK manufacturer with
nearshored supply. This move dramatically
reduced the carbon footprint of each
dispenser. For the T3 4-in-1 tap, 80% of
the components within the E-series range
are responsibly sourced within 200 miles
of production facilities. In addition to the
environmental benefits of nearshoring,
the company supply chain is more agile
and reliable, ensuring high-quality control
and reduced lead times. Better for the
environment, better for customers.
Totality ® 5 step approach to clean and
healthier water
Microplastics are present in up to 72% of
tap water and 90% of bottled water, fuelling
the demand and desire for filtered and
more hygienic, locally sourced drinking
water. As awareness
of microplastics and
concerns about mains
water quality rise,
interest in filtered
water has significantly
increased. By utilising
active carbon 0.5 micro
filtration as part of Borg
& Overström’s 5-step
hygiene methodology,
any unwanted odours,
chlorine plastic
particles, sediment
and particulates are
removed, for a clean,
crisp taste.
“We believe that water
shouldn’t just taste fresh,
it must be fresh, filtered
and clean. Our Totality ®

Growth in demand for integrated taps:
benefits of 4-in-1 T3 tap
Across offices, healthcare and hospitality,
workplaces are looking for a modern
alternative to traditional taps and water
coolers. Beautifully designed and with an
elegant profile, the Borg & Overström 4-in-1
T3 tap delivers temperature-controlled
boiling, chilled, sparkling and ambient
water at the push of a button. Compact and
powerful, this countertop tap is the standout
solution for any kitchenette or breakout area,
fitting neatly in a standard cupboard and
offering DDA compliance as standard.
The latest innovation this year from Borg
& Overström is the MonoFit ® drip tray.
Compatible with both the T3 and T2 taps,
the MonoFit ® is designed to minimise
work surface cutting, ensuring an easy and
convenient installation into virtually any
material. The innovative, non-invasive design
eliminates the necessity for specialised
cutting, preserving expensive countertop
materials such as marble or granite, while
the non-destructive fixings maintain a
secure, watertight seal with the surface
below.
The drive from consumers for multi-function
tap based dispensing solutions has seen
growth of over 30% in the last year. Ignited
by the demand for more aesthetically
pleasing solutions, which are compact and
complement the surroundings, consumers
are familiar with filling glasses from a tap but
are looking for better quality water and better
design.
Looking to the future
The future is bright for point of use drinking
water as focus grows on single-use plastic
waste, water quality and hygiene and
provision of this essential within workplaces,
buildings and facilities. From NHS directives
to eco-tourism awards and corporate ESG
strategies, drinking water and its provision
is a hot topic which can contribute across
the board. Borg & Overström are well
placed to answer this demand with their
global distribution and versatile product
range. “In the short term, our focus will be
on maintaining existing partnerships and
building new partnerships with our global
network of distributors. We expect continued
growth in the popularity of integrated tap
systems and up-take across the hospitality
sector.
“In the long term, we will continue to grow
our range, in line with customer demand,
market trends and latest technology
advances.”
Sparkling water has grown over 40% in the
last 4 years, and Borg & Overström only see
that growth continuing in the future, thanks
to the trend towards healthier alternatives to
soda and the premiumisation of water. With
their own DeepSparkle ® technology, which
provides deliciously effervescent, bottle-less
sparkling water thanks to a combination of
low temperatures and high pressure, they
are set to capitalise on this trend.
“As a UK manufacturer with a strong
commitment to our core values and love
for advancing technology, we are grateful
to be recognised and acknowledged for
the Water Dispenser Manufacturer of the
Year accolade. We will continue to push
the boundaries with our products and
innovations and strive for excellence, whilst
maintaining our roots as a UK manufacturer
of innovative water solutions.”

Work at height charity
launches first ever
No Falls Week
The No Falls Foundation, the first and
only UK-based charity for the work
at height sector, is proud to have
launched its first ever ‘No Falls Week’,
a powerful campaign dedicated to
promoting safe working at height.
Taking place between 13 and 17 May
2024, No Falls Week's mission was
simple yet crucial; to raise awareness
about the importance of safe working
at height, prevent falls and ensure
everyone that works at height comes
down safely.
It is estimated over 1 million
businesses, and 10 million workers,
carry out work involving some
form of working at height every
year. No Falls Week will provide the
opportunity for organisations across
all sectors to place a focus on work
at height safety.
“We’ve worked with Electroelsa
to adapt the range to suit the
UK rental market while meeting
the latest Transport Platform
regulations.
Where we’re enhancing
components for longevity
during intense usage – it’s
vital to minimise downtime
on-site while maintaining
efficiency, cost and ease of
use,” stated Rob Wilson,
Managing Director of Direct
Hoist.
Falls from height are consistently the
leading cause of workplace fatalities
in the UK, with 40 people losing
their lives at work due to a fall from
height in 2022-2023. Latest figures
from the Health and Safety Executive
(HSE) show that falls from height
were responsible for a third of all
workplace deaths last year, up from a
quarter the year before.
As awful as the fatality statistics are,
there are an even greater number of
non-fatal injuries resulting from a fall
from height, with over 5,000 people
in Great Britain having been reported
injured at work in 2022/23.

Trees, particularly those in the
urban environment, provide many
benefits: they slow the movement
of rainfall, capture pollution
particulates, provide habitats for
wildlife and improve our well-being.
However, they can also be a source
of conflict as we interact with
them so strategic and informed
management of trees is needed to
realise these benefits. Although trees
pose a very low risk, landowners
have a duty of care to ensure that
their trees don’t endanger us so
surveys and proactive management
is needed.
Barton Hyett Associates Ltd
offer a range of services
including tree surveys, tree risk
assessments, planning, strategy
and tree management advice to
a diverse range of sectors. The
Worcestershire-based team offers
expert, cost-effective arboricultural
consultancy and assessments
to the development sector, local
Government, rural estates and
landowners, schools, universities,
hotels, commercial, sports and
healthcare facilities, and more.
We awarded Barton Hyett Associates
as our Top Exhibitor at GroundsFest
2024 from the 10th-11th September
at NAEC Stoneleigh. Barton Hyett
Associates prioritises health &
safety with tree condition and risk
assessment surveys across largescale
estates, while ensuring trees
with heritage value are preserved for
future generations.
For Urban Forestry, the team provide
i-Tree surveys to capture and
analyse data on urban tree cover
for larger-scale tree management.
This long-term strategic approach
helps maintain and enhance tree
population through later adopted
local policies.

GroundsFest Review – Top Exhibitors
UK’s largest independent
supplier of aluminium roadways
Davis Trackhire is the UK’s largest
independent supplier of aluminium
Trackway and is owned and operated
by brothers Travis and Blake Davis. With
more than 200 years’ combined operations
experience throughout the company, we
operate a full UK wide service and we aim to
supply the very best equipment with a first
class customer service.
Founded in 2010 from humble beginnings
with just 200 second-hand aluminium
Trackway panels (found in a scrapyard!)
and a second-hand Volvo truck with rearmounted
crane, the company has since
grown into one of the UK’s most professional
and trusted suppliers of portable aluminium
roadway and related ground protection
services. Offering a full UK-wide installation
and removal service from our depots in
Scotland and England using our fleet of 14
bespoke installation vehicles (with a further
two on order and expected on the road in
Spring 2025), we boast a total stockholding
of 15,000 heavy duty aluminium roadway
panels. This is complimented by a further
2,000 heavy duty composite panels and
6,000 medium duty ground protection mats,
taking our total stock to over 140,000m²
– enough to cover the playing surface of
Wembley Stadium 20
times over!
With Travis & Blake
being from an events
background, it was
fitting that one of
the company’s first
and biggest success
stories to date was
securing the contract
to supply ground protection for the London
2012 Olympics opening ceremony. After
quickly branching out into more industrial
sectors the company now actively supplies
their products and services to other major
sectors including Rail, Transmission,
Construction, Civil Engineering,
Geotechnical, Renewable Energy and Film
and TV.
With our team of seven Project Supervisors,
all of whom are also ALLMI certified Lift
Supervisors, covering the length and
breadth of the UK we assess every site
individually to determine the right type and
amount of equipment required to achieve
our customer’s goal. All of our Project
Supervisors have progressed through the
industry from the ground up, boasting over
150 combined years
of portable roadway
experience between
them. Their roles
include conducting
in-depth site
surveys, producing
site-specific risk
assessments and
lift plans, carrying
out site audits
and supervising installation crews where
required.
The health, safety and welfare of our staff
and clients is paramount to every aspect
of the work that we undertake. As our
installation crews work out on the road
Monday to Friday, often in remote areas
and at the mercy of the elements, in 2016
we invested in our first truck-mounted
welfare unit, situated behind the cab of the
installation vehicle and containing a toilet,
sink, shower and drying room in addition to
kitchen facilities within the cab itself. After
quickly seeing an increase in productivity,
this was quickly rolled out across the rest
of the fleet, making Davis Trackhire the first
and only company in the Portable Roadway
industry to have full welfare facilities on all
installation vehicles – saving our clients vital
expenditure on on-site welfare.
In May 2023, Davis Trackhire was contracted
to undertake a particularly complex and
high-profile project – to provide a loadbearing
temporary access across the playing
surface at Liverpool Football Club as a
platform for two 300-ton mobile cranes and
two 600-ton crawler cranes to facilitate the
removal the old roof section of the Anfield
Road Stand. Using a team of 14 men, four
installation vehicles, two forklift trucks and
1,375 aluminium panels, a double-element
temporary roadway system was installed
over a membrane underlay from one end
of the pitch to the other, placing the bottom
layer of panels flat-side down to eliminate
any corrugation markings penetrating the
pitch surface.
In December 2023, Davis Trackhire
introduced a new out-of-cab remote driving
system to one of our installation vehicles,
allowing the driver/operator to manoeuvre
the vehicle from outside the cab using a
remote control. Safety features include a
rear-mounted monitor, cameras, and sensors
detecting anything moving around the
vehicle at three-metre & 1.5-metre distances
to help create a safer working environment
and reduce the risk of injury by negating the
need for the driver to climbing and out the
vehicle cab many times a day, while also
increasing site efficiency by up to 30%.

Building Products & Services
Building for tomorrow: The critical
role of Service Sealing Solutions
Ltd in modern construction
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd is the exclusive
distributor of high-quality sealing solutions for
industry-leading brands DOYMA, FRANK and
HKD, delivering advanced sealing systems
across both public and private building
projects in the UK.
Its offerings include premium sealing systems
for utility ducting and watertight applications,
utilised in major projects such as High Speed
2 (HS2) and historic restoration at London’s
King’s Cross.
Company Director, Tina McAra, brings
extensive experience in DOYMA products
to the role, having led technical sales
in the field prior to establishing Service
Sealing Solutions Ltd as the exclusive UK
distributor. Since gaining these rights in
2018, Tina has expanded the company’s
market reach nationwide, now with her
husband Jim onboard to help grow their
distribution footprint. Based in Shropshire,
the team supports the full spectrum of project
management needs, building a strong network
within the UK construction sector.
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd stands out in the
industry through its quality assurance
and robust partnerships, notably
with DOYMA, whose advanced
sealing products come with
a 25 year warranty. This
dedication to excellence is
exemplified by the Curaflex
Nova ® gaskets, designed
specifically for dependable
water-tight sealing across
building applications.
Featuring an Integrated Torque
Limiter (ITL), these gaskets
consistently apply optimal
torque, enhancing performance in
demanding environments.
DOYMA, a top-tier sealing and fire protection
manufacturer, specialises in safeguarding
building penetrations against water, fire, and
flue gases. Its expertise span across civil
engineering, building services technology,
and power supply infrastructure. Focused
on delivering innovative solutions, DOYMA
provide the market with reliable, highperformance
sealing systems designed to
enhance safety and resilience across diverse
applications.
Wherever services are installed through walls,
ceilings or floors, penetrating water may cause
damage to buildings. Lack of attention to the
points of entry of pipes and cables into the
building can have serious results: damp cellars,
equipment damaged by water ingress and high
repair costs. Service sealing systems ensure
professional and perfect pipe sealing, thus
presenting excellent preventative measures
against structural damage. Service Sealing
Solutions Ltd supply the full range of DOYMA
products to suit all situations for power cables,
communications cables, pipes and ducts, and
district heating pipes.
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd also
provides HKD systems, now part
of DOYMA, which specialise
in durable pipe sealing and
service conduit solutions.
These HKD products, such
as KE socketless conduits,
KG wall and floor ducts,
and KG twin sockets, are
designed for up to four
bars of pressure resistance.
Ideal for embedding directly
in concrete without the need for
sleeves or site prep, HKD’s systems
deliver efficient installation for thin-walled
concrete applications, including challenging
environments like pump sumps. Additionally,
this makes them particularly valuable for
building projects requiring robust, leakproof
infrastructure.
Products from the HKD range
can also be combined with
the DOYMA Curaflex ®
products, in particular, the
Curaflex ® wall sleeves and
other extensive accessories.
The company also offers
FRANK puddle flanges,
constructed from durable EPDM to
provide flexible, watertight solutions
that withstand acids, UV, and
weathering, meeting diverse structural
sealing needs. FRANK puddle flanges create
a secure barrier against fluid penetration,
withstanding chemical exposure from a variety
of acids and bases. Designed to manage
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd
pressures between 8 and 10 bars based on
diameter, they also feature strong resistance
to ozone and weathering, ensuring long-term
durability. Flexible and adaptable, these flanges
come in multiple versions, offering a costefficient
alternative to standard sealing systems
that can be installed during construction,
optimising the construction process with
reliable, robust sealing solutions.
When planning construction projects, multiple
factors are essential for lasting success, from
budgeting and financing to location, zoning,
design, and sustainability. Service Sealing
Solutions Ltd supports long-term resilience
by facilitating proper installation, ensuring
that building cables remain accessible for
streamlined maintenance. These systems not
only reduce disruption but also help prevent
structural damage by sealing service ducts
where water or humidity may penetrate walls,
ceilings, or floors. It’s important to remember
that effective sealing solutions enhance
building durability, keeping maintenance costs
down while protecting infrastructure against
environmental wear.
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd also specialise in
helping the build of larger, more complicated
building types too such as power plants, large
industrial plants, reservoirs and airports. These
types of constructions often require highly
specialised custom-made solutions. In the case
of extraordinary pipe dimensions or special
thermal, chemical or physical requirements,
sealing systems in the form of a special
construction are the required solution.
All DOYMA products are crafted
using cutting-edge design and
manufacturing techniques,
alongside advanced simulation
methods that prioritise safety
in specialised constructions.
As the exclusive UK
distributors for DOYMA,
Service Sealing Solutions
Ltd provides an unparalleled
selection of top-tier products

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning
Historically listed thatched
property benefits from
government scheme
Panasonic Heating &
Cooling Solutions has
delivered a sustainable
and affordable
heating solution to a
pre-1900s historically
listed and extended
five-bedroom thatched
cottage in Royston,
Hertfordshire with
three bathrooms. The
homeowners were
looking to replace
their existing gas
boiler with a more
renewable solution and sought the
advice of Cambridge based Eco
Installer who has valuable experience
in renovating heating systems
in older listed properties. Two
Panasonic Aquarea K series A2W
heat pump outdoor units along with
bi-bloc indoor units and Panasonic
Smart and Service Cloud controls
were specified and installed for the
project. The units were purchased
and distributed through heat pump
specialists, Secon Renewables.
Due to the property being a listed
building, planning permission and
DNO approval was required but
due to many years of experience,
Eco Installer and Panasonic were
able to work closely
and advise the
homeowner through
the application and
gain the approvals
required to progress
the project.
The homeowners
were also able to
take advantage of the
UK Government’s
Boiler Upgrade
Scheme (BUS) and
received £7,500
towards their heat pump installation
which Eco Installer were also able
to help with. As the installer is an
approved Panasonic Pro Partner,
the homeowner benefitted from the
security of a 7 year warranty.
Two Panasonic Aquarea 12 kW K
Series T-CAP air to water heat pumps
were specified for the project. This
was combined with retrofitting
and replacing some of the existing
radiators to triple and aluminium plus
some rooms also now benefit from
underfloor heating in order to meet
the property’s heat loss.

Underfloor Heating
Specialists
EasyFlow is well known across
the Midlands and the North-West
as the market leaders for all
things associated with liquid floor
screeding and underfloor heating.
Underfloor heating offers several
benefits for those involved in
the building and facilities sector,
making it an attractive choice for
energy-efficient and cost-effective
temperature control. Whether
you’re looking to hit sustainability
goals, increase space utilisation,
improve comfort, adhere to
health & safety, or increase energy
efficiency, EasyFlow has a range
of products with lasting benefits
such as long-term cost savings,
better resource management, and
increased satisfaction.
Recent developments are now
capitalising on the advantages
of combining underfloor heating
with liquid screed installations.
Traditional sand and cement
screeds are being replaced by
liquid screeds, which are ideal
for underfloor heating systems.
These flowing screeds envelop
the heating pipes, creating a
void-free finish that enhances heat
distribution and system efficiency.
The physical properties of the
screed allow for a thinner screed
covering, therefore there is less
material to heat, so the room
reaches its desired temperature
faster and more efficiently.
EasyFlow offer a complete, hasslefree
package for underfloor heating
and liquid screed which allows
them to support you and your
project from your initial enquiry
through to the commission of
your underfloor heating system.

Sustainable timber
cladding
Contemporary construction demands
sustainable, functional and aesthetic
building materials. Our premium
timbers meet these specifications
and add a timeless quality to interiors
and exteriors.
Inspired by Japanese Yakisugi timber
preservation, Exterior Solutions Ltd
created Shou Sugi Ban ® . In addition
to the traditional blackened, crackled
finish, our finish options bring the
technique up to date. If blackened
wood is too dark for your project,
our collection includes a selection of
mid- to light-grey tones. The smooth,
subtle finish of Kebony Radiata and
Yukari Numachi are popular options.
Alternatively, for a natural wood
finish, Accoya ® Tenki and Larch
Shiberiatora showcase the beauty
of timber grain. These add a warm,
tactile quality to garden buildings
and rustic-style retail stores.
For a splash of colour, the peacock
tones of Accoya ® Tobu, the deep red
of Yukari Kõsui or our vibrant range
of Douglas Fir finishes create unique
and impactful hotel and restaurant
interiors. All finishes enhance the
durability of the timber by drawing
out natural resins. These provide
The 700 Series: Over
100 years in the making
In 1923, a 47 year old Swedish
engineer called Gunnar Tellander
founded the company CTC. A few
years later, his inventiveness led to
a completely new way of creating
heat and hot water.
In 1985 it became one of the
first companies in the world to
manufacture Air Source Heat
Pumps, with Ground Source Heat
Pumps following in 1999.
Go Geothermal Ltd has the
exclusive rights to the CTC range of
Air and Ground Source Heat Pumps
in the UK and we are delighted to
unveil our newest product – the
CTC 700 Series.
R290 (propane) is used as the
refrigerant in this heat pump,
which is one of the most natural
refrigerants in existence. With a
GWP (Global Warming Potential)
of just 3, R290’s impact on the
environment is minimal.
During the colder months, the heat
pump supplies both heat and hot
water. In the hotter periods of the
year, the advanced cooling function
ensures a wonderfully comfortable
a moisture, rot and insect-resilient
barrier to minimise maintenance.
It’s a practical and visually desirable
way to elevate modern builds and
heritage renovations.
In addition to Oak, Larch and
Douglas Fir, the Shou Sugi Ban ®
range includes Kebony and Accoya ® .
These modified timbers are exposed
to a chemical treatment to enhance
stability and durability.
We supply Shou Sugi Ban ® with
installation instructions, matching
tipped screws and a tin of finish
treatment for cut lengths. These
ensure a professional finish can be
achieved on every project.

Elior wins contract with
James Hutton Institute
Contract caterer Elior UK has been
awarded the contract by The James
Hutton Institute (the Hutton) to
provide catering, hospitality and
cleaning services at its two sites
in Invergowrie near Dundee, and
Craigiebuckler in Aberdeen.
The Hutton is a globally recognised
research organisation delivering
applied science to drive the
sustainable use of land and natural
resources.
Elior’s 37-strong team will be a mix
of chef managers, cooks, catering
and cleaning assistants who will
provide services for the Hutton’s
500+ employees across its two
locations.
Employing the latest technology is
key to Elior’s service offer to ensure
that its clients benefit from the latest
digital solutions. Elior’s Breaz app
went live on the first day of the
contract as the sites are cashless,
which allows employees the ability to
browse, order, and pay for food via
their smartphone, minimising wait
times and eliminating the need for
paper menus that are quickly out of
date and create more waste.
The Invergowrie site will see a new
restaurant opening this summer,
creating new opportunities for the
introduction of delicious guest
kitchens and pop-ups.
Ian Hadden, facilities manager at
the Hutton, said, “We are excited
to be collaborating with Elior as
our new partner for all things
catering and cleaning. We were
impressed by the quality of Elior’s
proposal and the technical solutions
on offer. As we welcome the
infrastructure development at both
our campuses, we look forward to
developing our contract with Elior.
As our relationship continues, we
will be exploring the potential for
more formal hospitality as well as
developing the catering options for
everyone on site.”

Facilities & Estate Management
Building engineers will save more lives than doctors
A leading respiratory illness expert has claimed
that facilities management and building services
engineering will have a greater influence on
worldwide human health and wellbeing than the
medical and social care professions.
of excess deaths than the COVID-19 pandemic,
cancer, heart disease and mental health combined.
However, it receives a tiny fraction of the public
money and resources allocated to health and
wellbeing services.
Dr Philip Webb, chief executive of Respiratory
Innovation Wales (RIW), told a technical briefing
hosted in London by the CIBSE Patrons that the
huge scale of the indoor environmental quality
(IEQ) crisis meant that greater investment in
building and facilities management would
be more effective than medical treatment in
reducing excess deaths related to respiratory,
cardiovascular and mental health conditions.
He called for a fundamental reassessment of the

£1.7m refurbishment project
New College Durham’s
Promotion House is
being transformed into
a new learning space
by Esh Construction.
Esh Construction has
commenced work to
transform an existing factory
unit into a Construction
Centre of Excellence in
Langley Moor.
Working in partnership with New College Durham,
the £1.7 million project will see a change of use
refurbishment delivered to create a specialised
teaching facility for trade subjects. The building
will be remodelled to create a space that includes
teaching rooms, breakout areas, changing facilities
and a practice area for teaching.
Grant Watson, Construction Manager for Esh’s
commercial build division, said, “We pride ourselves
on building strong working relationships with our
clients and we are delighted to secure a second
project with New College Durham. We look forward
to delivering another high-quality teaching facility
that will inspire young people up to adult learners
to consider a career in the construction industry.”
Half of FMs worry about skills
shortages
New research from Watco, the industrial paint
and repair products specialist, has examined the
complexities affecting facilities managers (FM)
within production and manufacturing, uncovering
several challenges around labour supply and
safety.
The survey found that almost half (48%) of FMs
often worry that there is a skills shortage in
the sector with 42% saying that it’s difficult to
find good employees and 38% saying facilities
management isn't an attractive enough career
option for young people.
Challenges around labour supply were reflected in
a report by The Food and Drink Federation, who
stated labour challenges have remained stubborn
within manufacturing, particularly within food and
drink manufacturing.
Further to challenges attracting people into the
industry and filling vacancies, 42% say their
workload has grown over the past 12 months and
34% feel a lot of pressure in their job, with more
to address the areas of greatest need, pointing out
that air quality was responsible for higher numbers
Based on Littleburn
Industrial Estate, a newly
engineered joisted floor
will create a mezzanine
area to house mechanical
plant. The existing building
fabric will be stripped
back to reveal the existing
portal frame before being
reclad with new Kingspan
composite cladding while
internally partitions will be
created to form classrooms, breakout spaces and
a workshop.
The Promotion House scheme follows Esh’s
successful completion of New College Durham’s
collaborative and integrated learning space, T.H.E
Hub (Technical and Higher Education Hub) in
September 2023. The £8.9 million state-of-theart
education facility is based at the college’s

teaching spaces, including an immersive suite,
early years foundation nursery and multiple

than a third (36%) admitting they often make
mistakes because they have a lot on their plate.
Scott Saunders, technical service manager at
Watco, commented, “FMs in the production &
manufacturing industry are tasked with maximising
output & adhering to changing regulations in line
with the sector’s requirements. However, these
heavy workloads are clearly taking their toll on
the industry’s FMs, with respondents feeling the
pressure & making mistakes. FMs have many
critical responsibilities including ensuring the
health & safety of the facility, therefore mistakes &
concerns must be addressed with better support.”

According to data from Public Health Wales,
COVID-19 was responsible for 38 deaths per
100,000 of the global population, smoking annually
accounts for 180, and cancer 278, but air quality
is responsible for up to 1,400 excess deaths per
100,000 every year.
Webb also pointed out that there were 3,000 new
occupational asthma cases reported in the UK
every year linked to the air quality in workplaces.

ABM launches
Women’s
Impact Group
ABM, a global leader in integrated facility and
aviation services, launched its first Women’s
Impact Group in the UK and Ireland. The move
came as people around the world celebrated
International Women’s Day (8th March), bringing
awareness to the issue of creating true equity
for women in the workplace and in society as a
whole.
The mission and vision of the group is to
amplify ABM’s mission of creating a sense of
community and work culture where all people are
valued, empowered, and given opportunities to
contribute to drive business objectives and goals.
The UK and Ireland group will be focused
on promoting a culture that values the
contribution and leadership of women at ABM
while advancing the understanding of what an
equitable and inclusive work environment for
women should look like.
The group will partner with the executive steering
committee to identify clear pathways for women
team members at ABM to enter leadership roles
and create avenues that support mentoring,
recruiting, and development of women within the
business.
The first order of business is to collect insight
from around the business, all of which will inform
the strategy for the group’s inaugural year. People
of all genders across ABM’s industry groups are
welcome to join.

Sandpit Creations:
Create tailored marketing
disruption for your company!
Have you ever wanted to
stand out at a trade show?
Many trade shows have seen
record attendance this year
– so why not add an eyecatching,
creative installation to
attract new clients in 2025?
Got a last-minute Christmas
Show to organise? Why not
add some show-stopping,
interactive Christmas sparkle?
Take a marketing risk in 2025
Marketing disruption is all
about challenging the status
quo – using innovative tactics
to change how clients and the
industry view your services and
products. It might seem counterproductive to take
marketing risks during supply chain delays and
the cost-of-living crisis, but done well, imaginative
storytelling can be visually captivating and
challenge age-old mindsets.
Spotlight on Sandpit Creations
Sandpit Creations is an award-winning creative
workshop on a mission to create innovative
sets, props, and experiences that both engage
audiences and are built
to withstand interaction.
The team of widely
skilled creatives include
carpenters, creative
and concept designers,
scenic artists, textiles
specialists, creative
technologists, prop
makers, sculptors, and
metalworkers as well as
writers, directors and
performers.
Established in 2023 by
Director, Dan Barr, the
talented creatives have already been finalists in
The Access All Areas Event Production Awards:
‘Ones to Watch Category’ and won the ‘Most
Innovative Theatre & Events Creative Workshop
2024’ in the South East England SME News
Enterprise Award. With the catchy slogan, ‘See you
in the sandpit,’ the award-winning diverse team
of artists have largely known each other for years,
having previously collaborated on the Crystal Maze
Live Experience.
If you scroll through the company’s LinkedIn page:
www.linkedin.com/company/sandpit-creations/
posts/?feedView=all – it’s full of engaging,
innovative museum installations, immersive bar
experiences, art display furniture, theatre set
designs, fibreglass modelling to Christmas and
Halloween costume designs and more. With
a larger customer base, Sandpit Creatives has
recently moved its workshop space to Gravesend,
Kent from just outside London.
“We work all over the UK, not just serving the
London crowd. Our workshop is bigger and
quieter, giving us all the time
and space to come up with
our award-winning concepts.
On reflection, this year has
seen the completion of eclectic
creative projects from room
designs (including microelectronics)
at London’s
Sherlock Holmes Musem,
prop and video design for the
CBeebies Rainbow Adventure,
to a head-to-toe Mr Tinsel
Outfit for the London Christmas
Party Show and much more.”
Work with Built Environment
and other sectors
“We want to make it clear that
we don’t just work in the Arts
sector – we’re really excited
to be offering our services to the wider built
environment sector.
“We designed and handcrafted a bespoke ‘Mind
Control Safe Game’ for a company to use at a
recent trade show. The headset detects electrical
signals in the brain to measure levels of focus and
when optimal focus has been achieved, the dials
on the safe start moving and when the green light
is activated, the contestant can claim the prize
inside the safe. The safe
can easily be customised
for different companies
to use on exhibition
stands during trade
shows and in such a
competitive market, it’s
an eye-catching feature
to draw professionals
to your stand with
purchasing power and
potential sales leads,”
explains Dan.
Elevate your trade
show: Stand out
Trade Shows are a great way to harness brand
visibility, generate sales leads and expand
networks. Many specifiers, facilities managers,
senior buyers and directors attend trade shows
to discover the latest innovations across
roofing, cladding, HVAC, flooring and facilities
management.
People are visually-orientated, with science backing
this up. Half of our brain is either directly or
indirectly devoted to processing visual information
and 65% of us are visual leaners. Visual imagery
and storytelling can translate technical ideas easily
and combined with kinaesthetic models, can
transcend any trade stand to stratospheric levels.
“We’ve seen through recent projects such as
the Mr Tinsel costume, that people love visuallyarresting
designs on a moving person that they can
engage with or our fun ‘Mind Control Safe Game’
not only attracted the engineers but those with
innate curiosity and imagination.”
Sandpit Creations work in a collaborative way with
all clients: working on a specific set brief or on a
more, open-ended manner. The creative team visits
the client in question to offer an initial consultancy.
Dependant on the scale of the project, work can
start immediately or after a period of R&D.
Need last-minute Christmas work or early 2025
work?
“At this time of year, some companies are still
looking for Christmas party ideas and we have
a whole bunch of cool ideas. We’re happy to
accommodate last-minute bookings, as well as
starting the planning for larger-scale projects.
From our new workshop space in Kent, we can
help companies with New Year re-fresher/upgrade
projects, through to creating a trade show that will
the ‘disruption talking point’ of your next show
to brainstorming ideas for a short or long-term
marketing project.”

Water Management
Wrap it or regret it – now!
householders or occupiers.
The improvement in work
efficiency and reduction on
the impact to occupants is
a win for both contractor
and customer. There is also
little impact to the exterior
appearance of the property,
as the INSUduct system
provides a neat, clean finish to
the job – perfect for planned
replacements of old lead
water supply pipes.
Burst pipes are the most common cause of
home insurance claims in the UK [1] and cost
an average of £3,500 in damage to property and
contents. The expense is not the worst of it;
months of disruption follows as the property is
dried out and repaired.
Throughout the winter, frost is the greatest
threat to water services. UK Water Regulations
require any fitting or apparatus to be correctly
insulated to prevent frost, unless in a location
that is heated for more than 12 hours a day [2].
It seems obvious when you are scraping the ice
from the car on a frosty morning. However, the
insurance claims show that many homeowners,
landlords and tenants seem to be unaware of this
requirement.
In the worst-case scenario, the replacement
of water supply pipes is required. Traditionally
this has required major excavations outside a
property and usually a great deal of disruption
and trauma within, over several days and possibly
weeks – inevitably at high cost.
Water supply replacement – an easy alternative!
Whether or not the cause is bad weather, the
replacement of a leaking, or an old and unreliable
water supply can extend timelines and inflate
costs, sometimes to the detriment of other
aspects of a project. However,
there is now a cost-effective
solution to this previously
expensive operation. The use
of Groundbreaker’s INSUduct
allows the new water service
to be routed up the external
face of the building and
connected to the internal
plumbing above ground level.
INSUduct is also perfect
for redevelopment and
refurbishment projects. It
is the ideal product for the
replacement of original
lead water pipes, turning a
disruptive and intrusive job
into a quick and easy task.
INSUduct is also ideal for developments of multioccupancy
properties.
Designed to optimise space within the insulating
casing, up to three 32mm OD water pipes can be
installed to the exterior of the building, allowing
supplies to be installed at multiple levels of a
property with a single insulated duct running up
the property exterior.
Groundbreaker products are designed to provide
long lasting and effective thermal protection
to water pipes and fittings outside the thermal
envelope of a building. They offer frost protection
for 3 days or more with temperatures as low as
-15°C – temperatures we rarely reach in the UK,
even with today’s erratic climate!
Carefully fabricated to provide long lasting and
effective thermal protection to water pipes and
fittings in external situations, the products exceed
British Standard 5422 and all relevant Water
Regulations for frost protection.
Steve Leigh, developer of the range and
Managing Director of Groundbreaker, has over 40
years’ experience in the water industry.
“We’ve been putting pipes in holes in the
INSUduct only requires

appropriate point to connect

materials allow for a much better solution.
“Keeping pipes on the surface reduces the risk of
