Our Founders<br />

D. Gary Young grew up in a one-room cabin with his parents and five siblings in the mountains of Idaho<br />

where his deep love of nature set the course for a remarkable life. At age 24, a terrible logging accident left<br />

him confined <strong>to</strong> a wheelchair for life, but his intense desire <strong>to</strong> walk and ride his horse again would not let him<br />

give up. He looked for natural remedies that might help him heal his body and after 13 years of relentless<br />

determination, he was able <strong>to</strong> walk without assistance. This new path led him <strong>to</strong> the discovery of essential<br />

oils which opened a new chapter in his life. From the lavender fields in southern France <strong>to</strong> the desert ruins in<br />

Arabia and the lush rainforests of Ecuador, Gary was driven <strong>to</strong> discover the secrets of nature lost in the eons<br />

of time and bring them back <strong>to</strong> the modern world which laid the foundation for what would become Young<br />

Living Essential Oils.<br />

As Gary learned more about essential oils, he realised that there was a significant discrepancy in the<br />

quality of oils that came from all over the world. This ignited a fire in him <strong>to</strong> learn how they were produced.<br />

He bought his first farm in 1992 in St. Maries, Idaho where he planted lavender and clary sage seeds that<br />

he brought back from France. His uncompromising standards later became the science pillar of our Seed<br />

<strong>to</strong> Seal ® quality commitment. Gary and his wife, Mary, joined <strong>to</strong>gether in 1994 and founded Young Living<br />

Essential Oils and began travelling the world <strong>to</strong> spread this new knowledge fueled by their shared vision of<br />

seeing the vast benefits of essential oils bless the lives of millions of people - in every home.<br />
