January 2019 all non

zero energy standard.

must meet the nearly

zero energy standard.

This Government directive with Policy and building

regulations will require all construction

professionals to adhere to the NZEB Standard and

to undergo upskilling to meet the requirements of

the sustainable building agenda.

WWETB has developed a number of training courses

which are designed to provide learners with knowledge

of the principles and practices that help in achieving the

NZEB standard.

The WWETB National NZEB Training Centre is the first

facility in Europe to offer a suite of trade-specific NZEB

courses. The available courses are:

• NZEB Fundamentals for Electrical

• NZEB Fundamentals for Plastering

This 2 day course aims to provide participants with the principles

and practices required to effectively retrofit dwellings to reduce

energy demand and carbon emissions while improving comfort.

ELIGIBILITY

Learners attending the NZEB Retrofit course must first complete the NZEB

Fundamental Awareness course.

WHEN DID NZEB BECOME MANDATORY?

After 1st November 2019 (with consideration of Transitional Arrangements) dwellings

that undergo ‘major renovations’ must achieve cost optimal energy performance. A

‘major renovation’ means the renovation of a dwelling where more that 25 % of the

surface of the dwelling envelope undergoes renovation.

This 3 day course aims to provide participants with the principles and practices required to

effectively design ventilation flowrates, install ventilation systems and commission ventilation

systems, in accordance with Technical Guidance Document Part F 2019. Participants who

successfully complete the assessment of this course can use this as proof of competency in

ventilation systems’, installation, balancing and commissioning, as required by TGD Part F 2019.

As of the 1st of November 2019 (with consideration of Transitional Arrangements) ventilation

design, installation and commissioning should be completed by competent people.

DURATION

The course content is delivered over 2 days and the assessment will take place on day 3.

CERTIFICATION

This course is City and Guilds Assured and CIF approved.

Upon successful completion of assessment following this course, the learner will

receive the following award: Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) Ventilation (City and

Guilds Assured). Participants who successfully complete the assessment of this course

can use this as proof of competency in ventilation systems’, installation, balancing and

commissioning, as required by TGD Part F 2019.

ASSESSMENT

The assessment of this course is made up of two parts as outlined below:

Theory Assessment – 1.5 hour exam. Learners must achieve 70% to pass this element

of assessment.

Practical Demonstration – 30 minute practical demonstration of commissioning. This is

a pass/fail assessment.

Assessment will take place on a third day and learners must pass both elements of the

assessment to be awarded the certification outlined above.

PLASTERING

This course aims to provide participants qualified in the trade of

Plastering with the knowledge, skills and competency in the principles

and practices of Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) for new dwellings.

Ventilation, Lighting, ICT and Smart Technology

RENEWABLE ENERGY, PHOTO-VOLTAICS, SMART METERING AND ELECTRIC

Understand Renewable Energy, Photo-Voltaics, Smart Metering and Electric Vehicles

CERTIFICATION

This course is City and Guilds Assured and CIF approved.

The certification for this course is - Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB)

Fundamentals for Plasterers (City & Guilds Assured).

NZEB TRAINING CENTRE

Our Training facility in Enniscorthy is the first trade specific NZEB Training Centre for

Contractors in Europe. It is located at Blackstoops, Old Dublin Road, Enniscorthy, Co.

Wexford Y21 T6V9.

CURRICULUM

The Curriculum is based on contributions from leading government and industry

partners – i.e. CIF, Housing, Planning and Local Government, SEAI, Union

Representatives, Local Authorities and Third Level Institutions.

TUTORS

Training is delivered by experienced and qualified Tutors.

Who needs to do this training?

Those employed in the Construction

sector in the designated areas.

It is particularly suited to those engaged

in new builds for domestic construction.

Why do I or my employees need to do

this training?

Government directive and revised

building regulations will require all

construction professionals to adhere

to the NZEB standard. These training

courses will introduce participants to the

legislative concepts required to meet

the standards.

This upskilling will meet the

requirements of the construction

industries sustainable agenda and

provide practical applications for

building air tightness control.

What Certification will I get at the end

of the course?

All courses are City & Guilds/WWETB

Quality Assured and there will be a

Certificate and a Digital Badge issued to

participants on successful completion of

the programme.

How much does it cost:

The course cost is €100 per day, i.e. a 1

day course is €100 and a 3 day course

is €300. Each Trade course is €300.
