Service Above Self

by TODD HENDREKS | ROTARIAN

to help those in need get back on their feet and

become self-sufficient again.

Firefighter’s Breakfast - Our club provides local

firefighters with breakfast on September 11 to honor

and remember those who fought fires at the World

Trade Center.

Paul Harris, Founder of Rotary International in 1907, said

“The foundation on which Rotary is built is friendship;

on no less firm foundation could it have stood.”

Each week Rotarians in Parker, CO meet to fulfill

Rotary’s mission of "Service Above Self" and focus on

"building goodwill and better friendships." The Club’s

meetings begin the process of extending compassion

to individuals in our community and beyond. The

forty members of Cherry Creek Valley Rotary of Parker

fundraise at the annual Parker Brewfest to create

funds which go back to the community through grants

supporting local projects.

The list of local projects and organizations changes as

needs in Parker change. Cherry Creek Valley Rotary

of Parker prides itself in listening and taking action to

support Parker’s local needs. These are some of the

local projects.

Title Sponsor for Parker Hometown Christmas Parade

- donated to our local Downtown Business Alliance of

Parker for this community event

Parker Task Force Food Bank - Our club provides funds

Officer of the Year Recognition - Our club recognizes

officers from local police and highway patrol for their

exemplary service to our community.

Youth Services – Interact Clubs at Legend High School,

Cimarron Middle School, Colorado Early College,

Gold Rush Elementary School - Local schools and

Rotary members support Interact Clubs who provide

community service and fellowship similar to adult

Rotary Clubs.

Tutoring and Service at Douglas County Student

Support Services Program - Club members provide

tutoring and curriculum on Rotary's Four Way Test -

Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build

goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial

to all concerned?

Student of the Month Recognition - Middle and high

school students are recognized for their character,

academic work and community service with an

award from Cherry Creek Valley Rotary of Parker.

High School Scholarships - Parker, CO seniors apply

for scholarship funds which can be used in their post

secondary training.

Sammie’s Sunshine - "Our passion as a foundation is to provide

support to families who are facing fatalities due to not wearing a

seatbelt. We truly want to offer them a 'Raye of Hope.' We plan to

help support them as needed: financially, emotionally, or just by

walking with them through a difficult time. Another passion is seat

belt awareness. We will continue sharing Sammie's story so we can

help save others through seat belt awareness."

Backpack & School Supplies Program, a service of our Rotary

Satellite Club of Parker – Cherry Creek Valley United, members

who are developmentally challenged.

Blessing Bags for Homeless Individuals - Our club donated items

and created blessing bags of daily items that could be used for those without homes.

Project Sanctuary - "Our comprehensive evidence-based program is one of the only ones treating the entire family,

active duty service members from all branches of the military, and veterans from all eras of service. We reconnect

families, restore hope, and change lives through therapeutic retreat and long-term family support services."

Hide in Plain Sight - Founded in February 2015, Hide In Plain Sight has the mission to break the cycle of homelessness

and poverty through education. 200+ scholars have been awarded over $700,000 to help them accomplish their

educational aspirations.

Terolyn Horse Rescue - Their mission is to help at-risk horses that have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Those

who wish to adopt these horses are carefully screened prior to placement.

We are always looking to add to our membership! Please check us out at ccvrotary.org, search CCVRotary on

HUMANITARIAN

(noun) \ hyü- , ma-nǝ-'ter-ē-ǝn \

A person actively engaged in promoting human

welfare and social reforms; one who has concern

for helping to improve the welfare and happiness of

people.

This is a special time of year to kick off the holiday season when so

many turn their thoughts to remember what is most important. It is an

honored tradition for us to take a look at our lives and give thanks for

what we have. We count our blessings of family, friendship, faith, home,

work, food, community and so much more. I love how this act of giving

thanks often leads us to also want to give and share with those around

us. This season is filled with opportunities to look outside of ourselves and

our circumstances to help others. Service opportunities are abundant

and our hearts seem more open to this focus. What a blessing this is for

both those that give and those that receive help.

Our school district is an example of this phenomenon. Each graduate

of the Douglas County School district is asked to fulfill 20 hours of

community service in order to graduate. I love how this teaches our

young people from early on how meaningful and important it is to look

outside of themselves and spend time in service. On the DCSD website

it talks about how this helps students to learn selflessness and fosters

personal growth. As students help others, they gain character and

experience for themselves as well.

In this issue we want to take a look at some of the other humanitarian

efforts in our area that reach both near and far. As we live in a

community of large abundance, it is refreshing to see individuals and

groups who want to and work toward helping those who are in need.

Thanks for giving!

DOING BUSINESS

Bank On It

with Redstone Bank

Everybody wants a banking

experience that feels like neighbors in

a hometown. Redstone Bank is giving

our community exactly that. The big

boys better watch out.

10 SEARCHSOUTHAURORA

Redstone Bank: Rooted in Community, Growing with Colorado

In a world of big banks and

automated service, Redstone

Bank stands out by staying close to

home. Founded in 2008 by a group

of Colorado business owners and

investors, Redstone Bank was built

on a simple but powerful idea:

banking should be personal, local,

and rooted in relationships.

From its first branch in Centennial

to its expansion into Littleton and,

most recently, Parker, in August

2024, Redstone Bank has grown

alongside the communities it serves,

never losing sight of what matters

most: family, community, initiative,

and integrity.

Banking That Stays Local

Unlike national banks that move

money across the country,

Redstone keeps your deposits

working right here in Colorado.

That means more loans for local

families, more support for small

businesses, and more investment

in the nonprofits and schools that

shape our neighborhoods.

Redstone Bank doesn’t just serve

the community; it’s part of it.

Whether it’s sponsoring Ponderosa

High School events, participating

in Parker Days and Trunk-or-

Treat, or supporting organizations

like SECOR Cares, Heart2Hand,

Sunday Salmon, and the Pinery

HOA, Redstone shows up. Our

team doesn’t just write checks, we

volunteer, we cheer, and we build

lasting relationships.

Celebrating the Season, Together

This holiday season, Redstone Bank

is bringing festive cheer to Parker

with its Christmas Tree Showcase,

running from Thanksgiving through

December 10. Twelve beautifully

decorated trees, each created

by a local business or nonprofit,

will be on display at the Parker

branch. Visitors can vote for their

favorite tree with a $5 donation per

vote, and all proceeds go back

to the participating organizations.

The winning tree will be announced

on December 11, just before our

new signature holiday event.

Christmas at the Peak, held at

the Parker branch from 4–6 PM on

December 11, is a magical, familyfriendly

celebration featuring Santa

and Mrs. Claus, Frozen characters,

Whoville, the Grinch, and a drivethrough

light-up experience—all

free to the public. It’s our way of

saying thank you and spreading joy

to the community we love.

Banking with Heart

Each of Redstone Bank’s three

locations offers full-service banking

with a personal touch. Whether

you’re opening your first checking

account, applying for a home loan,

or growing your business, our team

is here to help, with expertise, care,

and a genuine desire to see you

succeed.

At Redstone Bank, relationships

aren’t just part of our business;

they’re the heart of it. Our team

is encouraged to go beyond the

expected, taking initiative to make

a real difference in the lives of our

customers and the communities

we serve. Whether it’s helping a

small business owner navigate a

new opportunity or simply greeting

a longtime customer by name, we

believe the little things matter.

As Bank President Ryan Johnson

often says, “We’re here to make

a positive impact, not just through

banking, but by creating a

welcoming place where people

feel respected, supported, and

valued. Treat everyone like a friend

and always do what’s right.”

Whether you’re a longtime resident

or new to the area, Redstone Bank

invites you to experience what it

means to bank with heart. Because

here, it’s not just about money; it’s

about people, connection, and

building a better future together.
