Rhiannon + Gordon

VANCOUVER, BC

Rhiannon and Gordon were delighted to honour their heritage by sprinkling touches of tradition

throughout their special day. From the tea ceremonies (at both family homes), to door games and

decor, and an absolutely breathtaking hand painted cake, Rhiannon and Gordon adorned their

wedding with love letters to their families and their cultures.

The Details

Their ceremony took place at a

Vancouver park with a majestic

fountain as a backdrop. The bride

opted to do a first look with her

bridesmaids, and needless to say,

their expressions were priceless!

The groom’s amazing heartfelt

vow made sure everyone shed a

tear. The reception was a blend of

cultures, with striking red decor,

that ended in a huge dance party.

It was a day that no one will

forget!

an Officiant's advice

Wedding vows are the highlight of your ceremony,

so it is not surprising if you are having an attack of

nerves writing them. The best person to advise on

writing vows is an officiant. They have seen and heard

it all. So what advice do they have for you as you put

words to your feelings? B.C. Officiant, Dale Morrison

(Wed by Dale) has some words of wisdom.

The first piece of advice is to make your vows real.

Officiants often remind couples that heartfelt words

carry more weight than long speeches—start by

listing a few things you love about your partner. Do

not be afraid to add a little humour!

TIP: Officiants usually have ‘cheat sheets’

to help you out - be sure to ask!

Inspire yourself by recalling all the reasons you want

to marry the love of your life. Put those thoughts into

words, but do not try to write your vows all at once.

Add to your thoughts over time and then bring them

all together. Be sure to create the right mood - do

not write your vows over a football game or in the

middle of your girls' weekend getaway!

Practice but do not memorize. Say them out loud so

you are used to hearing yourself. Have your friends

and/or family listen to you. This helps you shake off

those jitters on your wedding day. You will be saying

these vows to each other on your wedding day - do

not look at your officiant! Imagine looking straight

into the eyes of your partner.

Phones are great for making notes, but do not read

your vows from your phone at the ceremony! Phones

can go dead, and it is not a classy look for the photos.

Instead, pick out beautiful vow books and give them

to your officiant ahead of time. That way, you are not

frantically trying to figure out where your vows are on

your wedding day.

Putting words to paper might seem overwhelming,

but if you take it step by step, you will soon find

you have honest words from the heart. If you speak

sincerely about your love story, you will enjoy the

moment and create lifelong memories.

just a few months later, when wedding and moving expenses to join her fiancé, Theo, became a

reality, she made the heart-wrenching decision to sell the tickets. Vanessa decided to choose her

own ‘love story’ and put all of her talents into designing the perfect garden wedding.

The Details

Vanessa’s ticket sacrifice created a

sparkling wedding day. Blush, cream and

peach flowers showcased the couple

as they wed – surrounded by friends

and family who loved them. Vanessa’s

father had created the ultimate book

backdrop, and Theo’s family sang a

song to welcome Vanessa to the family.

Throughout the garden venue, there

were personal touches for guests, and

so many memories were created. Theo

surprised Vanessa by asking if they could

have their first dance song to Lover.And,

of course, the last song of the night was

Love Story.

Alls well that ends well

Out of absolutely nowhere, Taylor Swift

dropped $20 tickets to her final shows

in Vancouver, which just happened to be

near where the couple had just moved.

Vanessa was shocked to get a ticket,

Taylor herself would have been proud of

this Swiftie karma! Vanessa was able to

plan the wedding of her dreams, and in

the end, she still got to fulfill her dream

of exchanging bracelets, singing and

dancing the night away at the Era's Tour.
