IMPACT REPORT
Children’s Choice for Hearing and Talking
A Letter from our Executive
Director
As we reflect on the past year at CCHAT, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the
incredible progress we have made together in empowering children who are Deaf
or Hard of Hearing. Our mission to help these children learn to listen and talk is
more than just a goal; it is a commitment to unlocking their potential and
ensuring they have the tools to thrive in a hearing world.
This past year, thanks to your generous support, we have expanded our programs
and reached more families than ever before. We have provided much-needed
resources that have made a tangible difference in the lives of the children and
families we serve. Our dedicated team of professionals continues to work tirelessly
to offer personalized and compassionate services, fostering a nurturing
environment where children can develop their communication skills.
As we look ahead, we are excited to build on
this momentum and explore new opportunities
to enhance our programs and outreach efforts.
We remain steadfast in our dedication to
creating a world where every child, regardless
of their hearing ability, has the opportunity to
achieve their fullest potential.
Thank you for your unwavering support and
belief in our mission. Together, we are making a
profound impact on the lives of these
remarkable children and their families. We look
forward to another year of growth and success,
fueled by your generosity and partnership.
With sincere appreciation,
M.A., CCC-A, M.Ed.

FACTS &
FIGURES
Any delay in the delivery of service can have lifelong
negative impacts, and thus, CCHAT never turns away a
child in need of essential hearing health resources.
CCHAT’s delivery of NHDP programming is powered, in
large part, by grant funding which allows us to serve
families throughout our region. We are committed to
serving all families seeking our services, regardless of
their financial situation.

LEAH LIND
An Immeasurable Impact
Leah has changed the trajectory for hundreds of
families with her expertise and dedication. She
initially graduated from UCLA before earning her
master’s degree in Deaf Education at San Francisco
State. With CCHAT in a full-time role since 2004,
Leah is CCHAT's longest-tenured teacher. She is now
watching some of her earliest students become
college graduates. In recent years, she has moved to
guiding CCHAT toddlers, building a foundation, and
shaping the future for the program’s youngest
students.
ASHER DAVIS
A Remarkable Strength
A bout with cancer at 9 months old caused Asher to
lose his hearing. It was soon evident that these
early obstacles would not keep him from living a
happy life. Thanks to his hearing aids and CCHAT’s
early intervention services, Asher, 3, is now speaking
in full sentences, imitating sounds and gaining
independence with his listening devices. He brings
joy to campus each day, and his story serves as an
inspiration to the entire CCHAT community.

SPOTLIGHT:
Xavier Castillo
CCHAT alum ready to
handle college with
confidence
This fall, Xavier Castillo started another life-changing journey as a
freshman at UC Davis. For Xavier, facing challenges and overcoming
obstacles is something he has become accustomed to. His road
from newly-diagnosed CCHAT toddler to thriving young adult serves
as yet another reminder of both the power of CCHAT and
the resilience of children within the program.
“I wasn’t speaking much at all when I first came to CCHAT,”
Xavier said. “My friends and I still laugh to this day
because I was a bit of a trouble maker and I
wasn’t a good listener – I mean not
listening to instructions! But my
teachers were very patient
with me, which helped me
be a better student.”
At age 8, Xavier was
ready to join his
neighborhood school,
and he felt equipped
to handle the next
stage of his journey.
“Joining my mainstream school was a little nerve-wracking,”
Xavier remembered. “But CCHAT had really given me all the
tools I needed to help me get introduced to the hearing world.”
As Xavier found comfort and confidence in his new school
settings, his success soon followed. This included a long list of
extracurricular activities where Xavier’s social skills were put to the
test -- Associated Student Body, cross country, track and field,
Filipino Club, and Red Cross Club.
Xavier also confidently and proficiently handled a full academic
workload. This dedication paid off recently when he was
accepted for admission to UC Davis. His participation
in Sports Career Academy, which melds the fields
of sports and healthcare, has inspired him to
pursue a career as a physical/sports
therapist.
Looking back, he is indebted to the
program where he got his start,
and he is committed to paying it
forward to those currently in
the program.
“I want to show every student
at CCHAT how much the
teachers, speech therapists
and classmates have helped
me,” Xavier said. “Because if
it wasn’t for CCHAT, I don’t
know where I would be.”
