The Texas game was off the charts … next up, saluting our seniors!

CONNOR DILLON/

How sweet it was this past weekend

in Athens as the Bulldog Nation, the

Georgia players and Kirby Smart

and his staff all came together to do

exactly what our cover asked for in last week’s

issue … Bulldog Bevo!

Georgia 35 Texas 10 …

I don’t know about you, but in my opinion

the Georgia-Texas game was like a massive

wedding. There were days and days of

activities that you simply didn’t want to miss.

And then, thankfully for everyone who loves

the Red and Black, the grand finale (the game

itself) was epic.

The scene inside Sanford Stadium before

kickoff was legendary. Our fans had the

stadium completely full almost 45 minutes

before kickoff. And who will ever forget the

special treat of hearing Athens’ Widespread

Panic’s frontman, John Bell (pictured left),

singing the national anthem. It was such

a soulfully, sweet rendition of the “Star

Sprangled Banner.” Way to go JB … you are

the man and a Damn, Good Dawg!

Then the fun really began as our Dawgs

systematically whipped Texas. I definitely

encourage you to read Greg Poole’s Old & In

The Way column on page 22 as he explains

how this 2025 team is only getting better

every week.

What a win and weekend!

Now, we turn the page and what better way

to do so than the final home game in Sanford

Stadium, which is always Senior Day. On

page 10, Jeff Dantzler delves into the massive

contribution of these seniors. My goodness,

what a run!

And after the surprise onsides kick in the

fourth quarter versus Texas, Cash Jones

celebrating with is his teammates was an

absolute must for this issue’s cover. What a

warrior Cash Jones has been for Georgia. So

like what our cover says, join me in saying ‘Our

SENIORS are CA$H MONEY!’ As the old saying

goes, there’s nothing like cold hard cash and

that’s exactly what this group of seniors has

been for the Georgia football program.

Thank you, Thank you … Thank you!

Enjoy this issue of BI that will get you ready

for the Charlotte game. Both our sports and

social sections are loaded with fun content.

And beyond Saturday’s game in Athens, I

encourage folks not to forget that this week’s

PGA Tour event will be happening at Sea

Island Golf Club with the playing of the RSM

Classic. Can you say, the ultimate double dip

for the win … Go Dawgs!!

SALUTING OUR

SENIORS -

THANK YOU!

WE ARE THE BEST at what we do!

JEFF DANTZLER

@jeffdantzlerTV

Saluting our seniors, while watching our youngsters grow!

Yes, Georgia is a heavy favorite

to beat Charlotte Saturday. This

is not a Coach Dooley/Mighty

Munson that the Bulldogs had

better be ready, or the 49ers could pull

off the upset. Though that could happen.

A major sports television company has

analytics data that gives the Bulldogs a

99%-plus chance to win.

Hey, don’t ever forget Nicholls State!

But clearly Georgia has more talent than

Charlotte and this should be a - hopefully

comfortable and stress free / injury free

- victory for the Bulldogs. Ideally, we’d

like that for Georgia every time out, but

that isn’t realistic, especially in this day

and age of college football in the brutally

tough Southeastern Conference.

With what we all know is lurking the

Friday after Thanksgiving, and the mega

showdown with Texas - the eighth of

eight straight SEC contests - in the rear

view mirror, Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs can

do some fine-tuning and then turn all

attention to the Yellow Jackets.

But all the focus this week must be on

Charlotte. Of course, the Bulldogs don’t

want to be sloppy due to a lack of focus,

and open the door to the 49ers. Nobody

wants to do that any week. Importantly

also, these Bulldogs, relentless warriors

all season, don’t need any bad or sloppy

habits to sneak in, especially with so

much on the line in the home stretch of

the unforgettable, pulse-pounding 2025

campaign.

Saturday will be Senior Day on Dooley

Field and this outstanding group of

Bulldogs will be honored before the

game. The four year players have won

the 2022 national championship,

Southeastern Conference titles in 2022

and 2024, and were part of a 13-1 Orange

Bowl Championship team in 2023 - one

that was wrongly left out of the College

Football Playoff. Their record against the

arch-rivals is astounding - keeping in

mind that the biggest rival of all looms -

and what they have been such an integral

part of during the remarkable Kirby

Smart dynasty has contributed mightily

to history, glory and lore of University of

Georgia football.

These seniors, players like Brett Thorson,

Micah Morris and Oscar Delp will take the

field Between the Hedges for the final

time - unless Georgia hosts a College

Football Playoff game in December.

They’ve helped leave a great legacy, all

the while striving for any more glory and

a dream run through the remainder of

the 2025 campaign.

Outstanding veteran players who do

things the right way on and off the field

make the job of coaching easier. Those

players show the way, and it becomes

infectious in the locker room, the practice

complex and the playing field.

When Georgia won the 1980 national

championship, it was the greatest senior

class in Bulldog football history. It was

also then the best freshman class ever.

Number 34 Herschel Walker had a lot to

do with that. As did Terry Hoage, Freddie

Gilbert, Tommy Thurson and a slew of

standouts who helped comprise a four

year stretch of greatness never before

seen in Georgia football, and not lived

again until the reign of Coach King Kirby

Smart.

Vince Dooley’s Dawgs of 1983 won

the Cotton Bowl and finished 10-1-1.

It capped off a four-year stretch (and

remember, Herschel left for the United

States Football League following his

junior Heisman Trophy winning season

of 1982) from 1980-1983 highlighted

by the 1980 national championship,

three straight Southeastern Conference

crowns (1980-1982), four consecutive top

five national rankings and a cumulative

record of 43-4-1.

Those seniors of 1983, a team that’s

resiliency, toughness and tenacity, is

reminiscent thus far to the Dawgs of

2025, were shown the way by the seniors

of 1980.

Well this Georgia freshman class of

2025 is awfully good and the early signs

are that they could be a big part of

many special Saturdays and hopefully a

bountiful number of postseason triumphs

and championships for the rest of their

years in Athens.

Apologies for any players and names

that will be omitted. Perhaps that can

serve as fuel for future greatness.

On offense, the true freshman duo of

Juan Gaston and Dontrell Glover have

been essential to Georgia’s offensive line

play, and have the look of future anchors

to the Bulldogs front. At a practice

leading into the Florida game, Cathy and

Kevin Butler brought their two grandsons

Ethan and Dom - of course with their

daughter Scarlett the ringleader - to

watch. Kevin took six year old Ethan

down on the field. The offensive linemen

- very large men - came by in a drill, and

I think the “House of Payne” might have

experienced a small seismic shift. Little

Ethan looked up at Juan Gaston, and then

at “Butt-Butt” and said … “wooooah, he’s

bigger than a transformer.” Juan Gastonous

Prime.

Elyiss Williams is already a big time

talent at tight end. Compare him to

Darnell Washington and Leonard Pope,

expect to see a lot more of No. 10 as Todd

Hartley, the best tight ends coach in the

country, continues to stack the roster.

And don’t forget about Ethan Barbour,

who was injured in the second game of

the season.

In limited duty, Bo Walker looks good

and runs hard at tailback. He was awfully

impressive down the stretch in Starkville

two weeks ago.

Elijah Griffin is already a stalwart on the

defensive front, and the potential face

of future Bulldog stop units. JJ Hanne is

adding depth to the D-Line (as is redshirt

freshman Nnamdi Ogboko, a redshirt

freshman), and highly touted linebacker

Zayden Walker is getting his feet wet.

With the (hopeful) length of the season

now potentially reaching 15, 16, maybe

even 17 games to arrive at the promised

land, plus the four-game redshirt rule

the NCAA wisely put in several years

ago (you can play four games anytime

on the schedule and still keep your

redshirt), true freshmen are motivated

to keep fighting for playing time, not

just contributing - though it is hyper

important - to the scout team.

Fresh troops, fresh legs.

Who knows, maybe one of those true

freshmen who hasn’t played much, if

at all, this season, gets a shot Saturday

against Charlotte and does a great job.

Maybe that earns him a spot on the travel

squad for the next one and he makes a

special teams play, and then is on the

roster for what the Bulldogs hope is a

College Football Playoff berth and run.

It’s a storyline to watch Saturday and

(maybe) the final time for the Sons

and Daughters of Georgia to watch

our beloved Bulldogs play this season

Between the Hedges.

Georgia hosts Charlotte Saturday afternoon Between the

Hedges in the Bulldogs final home game of the regular season.

Kirby Smart’s Dogs are coming off an impressive 35-10

victory over then 10th-ranked Texas this past weekend in

Athens, the victory improving Georgia to 9-1 on the season.

It was Georgia’s eighth consecutive Southeastern Conference

contest, and the Bulldogs sixth straight victory wraps up

league play with a 7-1 mark for the reigning SEC champions.

Highlighting the win over the Longhorns was a dominating

fourth quarter. Georgia outscored the Longhorns 21-0 in the

fourth quarter. With the win, Georgia is now 66-6 in its last 72

games. Over the Bulldogs last 43 SEC contests, the victory total

is 40 against just three losses.

Under Smart’s watch, the Bulldogs are now 9-0 versus top ten

teams in Athens.

The 49ers come in with a record of 1-9. This past Saturday,

Charlotte fell at home to the University of Texas - San Antonio

28-7. The 49ers, 0-7 in the American, close out the regular

season and conference play next week at Tulane.

Charlotte has lost seven in a row since a 42-35 win over

Monmouth on September the 13th. One of the 49ers better

performances came the week prior, as they hung tough

against North Carolina, falling 20-3 to the Tar Heels in

Chapel Hill.

Georgia is a heavy favorite on Saturday to defeat Charlotte.

A victory over the 49ers would most certainly punch the

Bulldogs ticket to the 12-team College Football Playoff.

As for the Southeastern Conference Championship Game,

there is still a lot of football to be played, before determining

who plays in Atlanta. Texas A&M is undefeated, and still plays

Texas on Thanksgiving weekend. Alabama suffered its first

conference loss this past Saturday, falling to Oklahoma. The

Crimson Tide, who still play at Auburn, have the head-to-head

tiebreaker over Georgia on the strength of their win in Athens

in September. Ole Miss is also once beaten, losing only to the

Bulldogs Between the Hedges. Smart has led Georgia to the

SEC Championship Game seven times in the last eight seasons.

No school had ever been to six in seven years prior to Smart’s

Dogs, much less seven in eight seasons.

But all the focus will be on Charlotte this Saturday. All of

the scenarios for the College Football Playoff and the SEC

Championship Game will sort themselves out. Saturday’s

matchup will be the first ever between the Bulldogs and

Charlotte.

FOOTBALL

BULLDOGS TO WATCH

BY: MATTHEW HERREN/BI

KIRBY SMART (HC) - The Bulldogs’ head coach led his team to one

of the greatest victories in recent memory under the lights of Sanford

Stadium. Now, Georgia sits at 9-1 and in a great position to make the

College Football Playoff. This matchup with Charlotte will be a chance

for Smart and his staff to regroup before traveling to Atlanta to play the

Yellow Jackets on Black Friday.

GUNNER STOCKTON (QB #14) - The Bulldogs quarterback has been

on a tear, with 10 total touchdowns since the Florida game. The Georgia

offense has been firing on all cylinders as of late, and Stockton will have

another chance this weekend to showcase that this team is playing well

at the right time. Though his snaps might be limited, look for Stockton

to put on a show against the 49ers.

NATE FRAZIER (RB #3) - Frazier carded another solid game in the win

against the Longhorns, with 16 carries and 72 yards. The running back

has reaped the rewards of a resurgent Georgia offense as of late and will

look to continue his success against a Charlotte defense that is giving

up over 200 rushing yards per game.

OSCAR DELP

TIGHT END

OSCAR DELP (TE #4) - Delp has seen his volume in the offense

increase over the last few weeks, with three receptions in the Bulldogs’

last two games. As Bobo and the offense look to continue their hot

streak, keep an eye on Delp to be a security piece for Stockton and have

a productive afternoon in what could be his last game between the

hedges.

DILLON BELL (WR #86) - Bell is another Bulldog who steps up in the

big moments, though his name might not be called on much. He has

been with the Bulldogs since 2022 and will likely be playing in his last

game for Georgia in Sanford Stadium this weekend. Look for Bell to be

another senior who steps up to make big plays for the Georgia offense

against a vulnerable Charlotte defense.

CHRIS COLE (LB #9) - The sophomore had his best game of the

season with seven tackles against Texas. The Georgia defense has held

strong since their struggles against Ole Miss earlier in the season and

will need to continue their success this weekend and beyond. Look for

Cole to grow as a leader in the linebacker position against Charlotte

with CJ Allen being questionable due to injury.

DILLON BELL

WIDE RECEIVER

ELLIS ROBINSON IV (DB #1) - This redshirt freshman is the future

of the Georgia defense and will likely get a lot of playing time this

weekend against the 49ers. Against Texas, he tallied three tackles and

a pass deflection. Look for Robinson IV to make some plays in the

secondary and limit Charlotte from having any chance in this game

through the air.

BY JEFF DANTZLER

One of the greatest kickers in Georgia and NFL

history, John Kasay spent 16 years in Charlotte, was a

Pro Bowl selection and the Carolina Panthers all-time

leading scorer.

All-American Bulldog safety Thomas Davis, one

of Georgia’s best all-time players, was a Pro Bowl

standout for the Carolina Panthers today, and the

Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.

Georgia’s first game of the Kirby Smart era came

against North Carolina, as the Bulldogs defeated the

Tar Heels 33-24 in the Georgia Dome in the Chick-

Fil-A Kickoff Classic.

FOOTBALL

49ERS TO WATCH

BY: ANNA WILLIAMS/BI

TIM ALBIN (HC) - Tim Albin took over the Charlotte 49ers in December

2024 after leading Ohio University to the MAC Championship. A

two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, Albin has a

proven record of building winning programs. This will be his first time

facing Georgia as a head coach, so it will be interesting to see how he

approaches a matchup against a powerhouse SEC team.

SEAN BROWN (WR #8) - Sean Brown leads Charlotte’s receiving

corps with 379 yards and one touchdown this season. He’s the top

target for quarterback Grayson Loftis and the player most likely to

make plays downfield. Brown’s combination of size and speed make

him a threat in open space, and he has shown the ability to create

separation and make receptions in critical moments.

GRAYSON LOFTIS

QUARTERBACK

JAKE DAVIDS (RB #41) - Freshman Jake Davids has 47 rushing yards

this season, and brings lots of potential for growth on the field. He’s

often used in short-yardage situations and could help keep defenses

honest with misdirection plays. His speed and vision make him

someone to watch when Charlotte looks to mix up its run game.

GRAYSON LOFTIS (QB #12) - Grayson Loftis is the centerpiece

of Charlotte’s offense, having thrown for 1,045 yards and eight

touchdowns so far. Loftis has the ability to create plays when given

time in the pocket, though consistency has been a challenge this

season. He’ll rely on Sean Brown and other key receivers to move the

ball and generate big plays. Georgia’s defensive front will likely focus on

pressuring Loftis to disrupt the passing game.

COLLIN GILL (DB #3) - Collin Gill leads the 49ers’ defense with

12 solo tackles. He’s a key part of Charlotte’s secondary and also

contributes in run support. Gill has the ability to read plays and make

stops in critical situations, making him one of the defenders to watch.

His tackling and field awareness will be important if the 49ers hope to

limit big plays from Georgia’s offense.

COLLIN GILL

DEFENSIVE BACK

YAMIL TALIB (DL #20) - Freshman Yamil Talib has recorded nine solo

tackles and 0.5 sacks this season. Despite being a freshman, Talib has

shown flashes of impact along the defensive line. He’ll need to continue

developing and finding ways to pressure Gunner Stockton and disrupt

Georgia’s offense. Talib represents one of Charlotte’s key defensive

building blocks and could make plays that slow down the Bulldogs.

BY JEFF DANTZLER

The most famous athlete in 49ers history is the

legendary Boston Celtics forward Cedric “Cornbread”

Maxwell, who led then-UNCC to the 1977 Final Four at

the Omni in Atlanta.

Then UNC-Charlotte served as the host institution

for the 1996 Women’s Final Four at the Charlotte

Coliseum, where Georgia beat Stanford in the semis

before falling to Tennessee.

Throughout the years, some former Georgia Bulldogs

have been assistant coaches on the football staff at

Charlotte, including receiver/returner Damien Gary

and quarterback Joe Cox.

THE

Five

Georgia vs. Charlotte

BY: JEFF DANTZLER

1. Georgia’s Senior Class - Bulldog seniors will be honored

Saturday prior to kickoff against the Charlotte 49ers. Whether it’s

the traditional four-year senior, the fifth-year senior, a transfer who

has been in the program for two or three years, or a one-season

addition out of the portal, the success and victories achieved has

been remarkable. Kirby Smart has built a powerhouse at his alma

mater. For these seniors, aiming for a second straight trip to the

College Football Playoff, their record - with lots of work still to be

done this season - is worthy of significant praise. Let’s just go off the

traditional four year senior, like All-American punter Brett Thorson,

it began with a dream season - the 2022 National and Southeastern

Conference Championships with a perfect 15-0 record. There is the

13-1 Orange Bowl Championship season of 2023, when the Bulldogs

finished ranked No. 3 in the land. Last year, the Bulldogs again won

the SEC championship and played in the CFP. The championships,

the winning streaks, the records, particularly against the arch rivals

- again, with another colossal battle awaiting - the run of top ten

finishes, while constantly striving for more. Bravo to the University of

Georgia’s Senior Class of 2025.

2. John Kasay and Thomas Davis - Two of the greatest players in

Carolina Panthers history are Georgia All-Americans John Kasay Jr.

and Thomas Davis. Kasay’s beloved father John, a legendary player,

coach, mentor, inspiration, task masker, and wearer of many hats,

had a true chip off the old block. Whereas John Sr. was a standout

offensive lineman, John Jr. - or “Brief Kasay” - as he was known while

hanging around the practice fields and old McWhorter Hall, went

on to become one of the greatest kickers in college and pro football

history. Mentored by the likes of Hall of Fame legend Kevin Butler,

Kasay starred for the great Billy Henderson at Clarke Central High

School. He would then join the likes of Butler, Rex Robinson and

Allan Leavitt as All-American kickers at Georgia. With another of his

mentors, fifth year senior and fellow Clarke Central alum, the great

David Dukes holding, the freshman kicked the game-winner on the

final play of the 1987 Liberty Bowl to beat Arkansas 20-17.

Kasay had the game-winner against Alabama in 1990. He went on

to an incredible NFL career, primarily in Charlotte, where he became

the Panthers all-time leading scorer. He played in the Super Bowl,

the Pro Bowl and led the NFL in scoring. Kasay’s final season in the

NFL was 2011 with the Saints, and it was pretty neat to say that in

the year 2011, legendary Hall of Fame Coach Vince Dooley (who

retired in 1988) still had one of his players in the NFL. Thomas Davis

was an All-American big-play, big hitting safety at Georgia who

is one of the best to ever play the game in college and the pros.

Transitioning to linebacker in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers,

this generational talent was a three-time Pro Bowl pick, an All-Pro,

and played in a Super Bowl. Amongst his greatest honors, Davis

was named the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2014. At

Georgia, Davis quickly etched his name amongst the best to wear

the silver britches. As a redshirt freshman in 2002, he recovered the

game-clinching fumble at South Carolina and had a game-saving

interception at Alabama. The memorable moments continued to

come, including a big hit on Auburn All-American Cadillac Williams

on the second play of the 2003 Auburn game that set the tone. Two

of my favorites, and two of Georgia’s best, John Kasay and Thomas

Davis, beloved not only by the Bulldog faithful, but also in Charlotte

as two of the greatest Panthers ever.

3. Hoops in Charlotte - There is a little basketball history for Georgia

in Charlotte. Unfortunately, the Georgia men lost a couple of NCAA

Tournament games there to Washington and Michigan State. But

in 1996, Charlotte, with UNCC as the host institution, was the home

of the Women’s Final Four. Andy Landers’ powerhouse Lady Dogs

advanced for a second straight season, and took down Stanford

in the National Semifinal. The Lady Dogs unfortunately came up

short in the title game to Tennessee, which Georgia beat earlier in

the season. It goes down as one of Georgia’s greatest basketball

teams ever and a great memory for all involved with the program,

including a very young third year play-by-play announcer.

4. Cornbread Maxwell - Boston Celtics standout forward Cedric

“Cornbread” Maxwell was an NBA legend in the league’s greatest era

of the 1980s. He rose to fame as an All-American at UNC-Charlotte,

leading the 49ers on an incredible run to the 1977 Final Four in

Atlanta. Maxwell led UNCC to wins over Syracuse and Michigan

to reach Atlanta, where they fell to Al McGuire’s eventual national

champion Marquette Warriors by two points. Marquette beat North

Carolina in the final. Can you imagine if it had been UNC v UNCC?

Maxwell played 11 NBA seasons, most notably with the powerhouse

Celtics alongside Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert “Chief” Parrish,

Danny Ainge, Tiny Archibald and Dennis Johnson. Maxwell was a

part of two NBA Championship teams for Boston, in 1981 over the

Rockets and 1984 over the Lakers in the Finals. On a court littered

with stars, including Houston’s Moses Malone, Cornbread Maxwell

was named MVP of the 1981 NBA Finals. His No. 31 hangs in the

rafters of, well whatever it’s called now, but I still call it the Boston

Garden.

5. ‌Swingin’ - Ah yes, one of the my favorite songs of all-time,

released in January of 1983 by the one and only John Anderson,

Swingin’ … It is an ode to Charlotte Johnson. “There’s a little girl, in

my neighborhood, her name is Charlotte Johnson, and she’s really

looking good.” … “I was on the porch with Charlotte, feeling love

down to my toes, and we was swingin’.” Takes me back, and anytime I

hear it, a smile comes to my face.

Day Dawgs vs. Night Dawgs

I’ve decided there are two

kinds of people in Athens

on a football Saturday: the

Day Game Person and the Night

Game Person. They’re all part of

Dawg Nation, just running on

different game-day clocks. After

this weekend’s 7:30 p.m. kickoff

against Texas, the differences

were on full display.

Night games come with a

different kind of energy, the kind

that builds for hours and hours

until the stadium gates finally

open. Night Game People thrive

on that. They love a slow burn –

the anticipation, the planning,

the pacing, the rivalry talk. By

noon, they’re likely already in full

game mode, even if kickoff is still

seven hours away.

Walking into Sanford before

the Texas game, I heard some

Georgia fans chirping at two

Texas fans, “You’re wearing the

wrong color buddy. Remember

what happened last year in

Austin?” That’s classic Night

Game Person behavior. Not rude,

just spirited. They’ve had all day

to warm up. A little rowdier, a

little louder, a little more likely

to spark conversation with a

stranger (or an opponent).

And somehow, even though

night games start later, it seems

that Night Game People stay

longer. They’re not leaving

early – not when the lights are

on, the stadium is glowing, and

the energy keeps building as

the game goes on. I can feel the

energy, Sanford under the lights

feels like a completely different

place. The moon is out, the

fireworks light up the field, and

the whole stadium is electric.

But, being a Night Game

Person certainly comes at a

price: you have to actually make

it through the day. The waiting,

the tailgating, the temperature

drop, the miles of walking in

boots. Night Game People are

marathoners, not sprinters, and

they still somehow manage to be

loud in the fourth quarter.

Day Game People, meanwhile,

bring a completely different vibe.

They enjoy the sunshine and

the ability to leave the stadium

with the entire evening ahead

of them. They seem to be more

alert, more optimistic, and they

don’t wake up feeling like there’s

a 14-hour countdown to kickoff

hanging over their heads.

Their eyes are brighter, the

crowd runs quieter, and the

energy leans more polite. Day

Game People will strike up a full

conversation with opposing fans

— where Night Game People

chirp, they chat.

Plus, Athens in the fall during a

day game is elite. The weather is

perfect, the campus is glowing,

and when the game’s over,

there’s plenty of time to go to

your favorite dinner spot, stroll

downtown, or take that much

needed post-game nap.

What I find funny, though, is

that no matter the kickoff time

– noon, 3:30, or 7:30 – everyone

in Athens starts tailgating at the

same exact hour. I’ve seen tents

go up at 7 a.m. for day games

and 7 a.m. for night games.

Either way, the town of Athens

is up, grilling, and blasting music

before the sun is even fully away

this time of year.

Out of curiosity, I ran a poll

on our Instagram during the

Texas game: Day Game or Night

Game? The results came back

extreme– 94% said night games,

6% said day games. Maybe

Night Game People are just

louder online, or everyone else

was too tired from the 7 a.m.

tailgate to vote.

As for me? I’m a Night Game

Person through and through.

Something about Sanford at

night just hits differently, and

with only a couple night games

each season, I take in every bit

of it.

But here’s what I’ve learned

after watching both types of

fans: game day works because

both exist. The marathoners and

the early birds. The rowdy and

the relaxed.

So which person are you – the

Night Game Person or the Day

Game Person?

Because here in Athens, there’s

certainly a difference. And

honestly, that’s what makes

Saturdays so great and Bulldog

fans so special.

Josh Conner of the Georgia Bulldogs Radio

football. Josh is a frequent talk show guest,

and once was a co-host with yours truly. He

is very talented as a broadcaster, engineer,

BY JEFF DANTZLER

A VIEW OF...

Georgia vs. Charlotte

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT

THIS GEORGIA TEAM?

The 2025 Georgia Football

team is one of the most

entertaining Dawg teams

that I can remember. Every

snap reveals their tenacity

and character which is found

directly from their head coach,

Kirby Smart. This team is

never out of any game they

play. They play until the final

whistle and some games have

required just that. Whether

Gunner Stockton is under

center or back in the gun, this

team rallies around the grit of

their QB1.

BEING A YOUNGER (36,

LUCKY DAWG) GEORGIA

FAN, TALK ABOUT THE

IMPACT OF KIRBY SMART

ON THIS GENERATION OF

BULLDOGS.

Kirby Smart showed what

the University of Georgia

was always capable of doing,

competing and winning

National Championships. I saw

a lot of winning in the early

2000s but I also saw so many

painful losses against Florida,

Auburn, and Tech. Kirby has

been a master of recruiting

the great state of Georgia and

then cherry picking the elite

of the elite from around the

country to build year over year

a championship contender. It

is truly calming knowing every

Saturday Georgia is going into

the game with a coaching

advantage.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE

KEVIN BUTLER STORY?

Getting to know Kevin over

the years has truly been an

honor and a privilege. He is

a wonderful husband, father,

and co-host. Some of the best

stories I will keep between

the radio crew, but I love

hearing Kevin talk about his

extra point shattering a locker

room window in Starkville.

Bonus memory of him talking

about the fan leaping from

the stands to catch his kick on

Monday Night Football.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST

ABOUT WORKING WITH

THE BULLDOG RADIO

NETWORK?

Working with you (Jeff) and

Kevin is a tremendous joy. I

love watching them riff off

each other and interact with

the fans at Hotel Indigo or

out at Tate Plaza. They both

love Georgia Football but they

love putting together a fun,

unique, and informative show

to the greatest football fans

this side of the Mississippi.

WHO WERE YOUR FAVORITE

BULLDOGS GROWING UP?

I know I was a little bit older,

but I was a running back

guy so watching Knowshon

Moreno and Todd Gurley

run through, around, or over

people in and out of Sanford

Stadium was something I’ll

never forget.

WHAT’S THE SCORE

SATURDAY VS. CHARLOTTE?

Senior day as well as the last

game before the big one at

the Benz. Hopefully Georgia

can get some good work in

and earn the opportunity to

play some other guys that also

work hard in practice. Final

score: Dawgs 45-17.

BYU -2.5 over Cincinnati Saturday, Nov. 22 8:00 P.M.

The Cougars rallied back to form after the loss to Texas

Tech with a 44-13 win against TCU, while Cincinnati just

dropped their second straight game to eliminate them

from the CFP conversation. Though this could be a trap

game, BYU is simply the better team and needs this win

to keep their spot in the Big 12 Championship in a few

weeks. Roll with BYU -2.5 over Cincinnati.

Georgia Tech -2.5 over Pittsburgh Saturday, Nov. 22

7:00 PM

The Jackets survived what would have been the most

embarrassing loss in quite some time after beating 1-10

Boston College 36-34 last weekend. Pittsburgh rolls

into Atlanta with everything to play for even after their

blowout loss to Notre Dame. The winner of this game will

be in a great spot for the ACC Championship game and a

CFP berth. This will be one of the best games next week,

so keep an eye on this one. Coach Key does just enough

to win a high-scoring battle and clinch a trip to Charlotte.

Roll with Georgia Tech -2.5 over Pittsburgh.

Tennessee -3.5 over Florida Saturday, Nov. 22 7:30 PM

Tennessee got back on track after their devastating loss

to Oklahoma with a comfortable win over New Mexico

State. Meanwhile, the Gators dropped their third straight

game with a tough loss to Ole Miss in Oxford. Neither

team is having the season they hoped for, but Florida

is just playing bad football right now. Night games in

Gainesville can be tricky, but the Vols win this one. Roll

with Tennessee -3.5 over Florida.

Kentucky +9.5 over Vanderbilt Saturday, Nov. 22 3:30 PM

Kentucky is quietly playing some inspired football as of

late, winning their last three games. Vanderbilt survived

an upset scare against Auburn two weeks ago to keep

their CFP dreams alive. I have not been that impressed

with the Commodores much of this season, even

though they seem to be one of America’s favorite teams.

Vanderbilt wins this one, but Stoops and the Wildcats

keep it close. Roll with Kentucky +9.5 over Vanderbilt.

Michigan -10.5 over Maryland Saturday, Nov. 22 4:00 PM

The Wolverines snuck past Northwestern with a gamewinning

field goal last weekend at Wrigley Field. The

Terrapins have lost six straight games after a 4-0 start to

the season. Michigan has struggled to cover big spreads

this season, but I think they are due for a blowout

win against an inferior opponent. Michigan travels to

College Park and takes care of business before hosting

Ohio State in The Game. Roll with Michigan -10.5 over

Maryland.

NC State +4.5 over Florida State Friday, Nov. 21 8:00 PM

The Wolfpack have had an up-and-down season and

return home after being smoked by Miami in Hard Rock

Stadium. Florida State bounced back at home with a win

over Virginia Tech after losing to Clemson. The winner

of this game is headed to a bowl game and this should

be a fun one to watch on Friday night. NC State plays

much better at home, so give me the home team with

the points as the Wolfpack go bowling. Roll with NC State

+4.5 over Florida State.

TOP 12

JD’S

BY: JEFF DANTZLER

There was a lot of drama this past Saturday, especially in the mighty Southeastern

Conference. Texas A&M had its biggest comeback of all time, Oklahoma edged

Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and Georgia pulled away from Texas in Athens. Two more

weeks remain in the regular season and all the contenders are hungry for those

precious playoff spots.

1. OHIO STATE - The Buckeyes were dominant

against UCLA, a game that not that long ago would

have been a famous Rose Bowl matchup. Ohio State’s

defense has been tremendous all season. Rutgers heads to The

Horseshoe this weekend.

2. TEXAS A&M - The Aggies had an amazing

comeback to beat South Carolina and improve to

10-0 on the season. The Gamecocks jumped to a

30-3 lead, but Texas A&M chalked up four straight touchdowns

and avoided the upset. They host Samford Saturday.

3. INDIANA - The Hoosiers had an early battle with

Wisconsin, but then turned it on. Indiana wound up

with a 31-7 victory, and the Hoosiers are a perfect 11-

0. What a story they are. They are off this week, then

have Purdue the Friday after Thanksgiving.

4. GEORGIA - The Bulldogs were one of the most

impressive teams of the week last Saturday, topping

Texas 35-10. Georgia is 9-1, and done with SEC play,

posting a 7-1 league mark. The Dogs host Charlotte

this Saturday, then the Yellow Jackets loom.

5. OLE MISS - The Rebels dominated the second

half and came back to beat Florida 34-24 in Oxford.

There were a lot of eyes on Lane Kiffin. Ole Miss

wrapped up a playoff berth, improving to 10-1. They

are off Saturday and then head to Starkville for the Egg Bowl.

6. TEXAS TECH - The Red Raiders are rolling. On

the heels of their impressive victory over Brigham

Young, Texas Tech pounded Central Florida 48-9. The

Red Raiders are now 10-1, atop the Big XII, and off this

week. Then it’s a trip to West Virginia.

7. OREGON - The Ducks posted a nice victory over

the Minnesota Golden Gophers 42-13 Friday night

and are now 9-1 on the year. Oregon is now set for a

showdown against the Southern Cal Trojans. USC is a

sneaky 8-2 on the year, this one is big.

8. TECH - The Yellow Jackets fell behind Boston

College, but had a furious comeback and edged

Boston College 36-34. Brent Key’s team is an

impressive 9-1, and they know how to win. Next up for

the Yellow Jackets is a visit from the Pitt Panthers.

9. OKLAHOMA - The Sooners posted a signature

victory over Alabama, beating the Crimson Tide

23-21 in Tuscaloosa. That’s two straight seasons that

Oklahoma has beaten Alabama. The Sooners are now

8-2, and off to CoMo to play the Missouri Tigers.

10. ALABAMA - The Crimson Tide, plagued by

turnovers, fell to Oklahoma 23-21 at Bryant Denny

Stadium. Alabama is now 8-2 and is still in the mix

for everything. The Tide will host Eastern Illinois in a tuneup this

week, then it’s the Iron Bowl at Auburn.

11. BRIGHAM YOUNG - The Cougars took care

of TCU Saturday night, upping the record to 9-1 this

season. BYU is 9-1, losing only to Texas Tech this

season. Next up is a tough game against the Cincinnati

Bearcats on the road. UCF is the regular season finale.

12. JAMES MADISON - The Dukes hang on as

the best looking Group of Five team for another week.

James Madison had a fantastic performance against

Appalachian State, pounding the Mountaineers 58-10, to improve

to 9-1. Next up is a visit from Washington State.

Tune into the Bulldog Brunch every Sunday at 10AM with Jeff Dantzler,

Old & In The Way

BY GREG POOLE

It wasn’t just that Georgia beat Texas.

It’s that the Bulldogs finally looked like

the team they’ve been trying to become

since Week 1, tougher at the line of

scrimmage, sharper in the passing game,

and more ruthless in the fourth quarter

than the group that stumbled through

some uneven early-season Saturdays.

From a UGA vantage point, this was

a straight-up program barometer. A

supposed heavyweight showdown

turned into a measuring stick, and

Georgia used it to send a simple

message: this team is trending up.

Back in September, Gunner

Stockton’s talent was obvious, but

his employment wasn’t always clean.

Against Texas, you saw the version

Georgia has been waiting on. Stockton

got them into the right plays, used

tempo when the Longhorns were

scrambling, and punished them when

they weren’t lined up. He didn’t have

to be a superhero; he just had to be

the adult in the room. Third downs

felt organized, not improvised. The

ball came out on time and in rhythm.

That doesn’t happen without trust in

your wide-outs, and Georgia now has

a receiver room that looks as deep as

it has in years. Dillon Bell continued

his evolution as a tone-setter on the

perimeter, while Zachariah Branch and

Noah Thomas forced Texas to respect

vertical shots. With London Humphreys

and flashes from CJ Wiley, Stockton has

answers all over the field now.

If you want the simplest explanation

for Georgia’s November surge, start

with the offensive line. Early in the year,

the group felt more theoretical than

dominant. Now, it appears to be a unit

with an identity. Veterans gave Georgia

the kind of interior push that travels in

any stadium. When Georgia needed to

salt away the game in the second half,

the Bulldogs leaned on that front, ran

right at a worn-down Texas defense, and

met very little resistance. That physical

edge has been missing at times the last

couple of seasons.

Last night, it

returned.

The growth

at running back

mirrors the

broader arc of this

team. Early on,

the rotation felt

unsettled. Now it

feels intentional.

Nate Frazier brought

the burst that makes

linebackers take

nervous angles.

Dwight Phillips Jr.

added his changeof-pace

speed, and

veteran Cash Jones

continued to do

whatever the game

demanded — blitz

pickup, swing

passes, tough yards

in short space. The

staff has figured

out how to blend

their backs’ different

skill sets, and

you’re seeing the payoff in late-game

situations. Georgia doesn’t just run the

ball to finish games; they run it with a

confidence that says, “You know what’s

coming. You still can’t stop it.”

Georgia’s defense hasn’t been bad

this season, but it also hadn’t always

played at the ruthless, suffocating

level fans had grown accustomed to.

Against Texas, it finally flirted with that

standard again. Inside pressure forced

Texas to work for every yard in the run

game. On the edges, Georgia’s collapse

in the pocket made the Longhorns’

passing concepts develop just a

beat slower than they needed. The

secondary took turns closing windows

and baiting the Texas quarterback

into throws he’ll see in film study all

week. This wasn’t just a collection

of good individual performances; it

was a defense that looked synced

up, communicating, and playing fast

instead of thinking.

What will stick with Georgia fans isn’t

just that the Bulldogs beat a high-profile

Texas program. It’s how they did it —

with composure, physicality, and the

certainty that this team is better now

than it was in September.

That’s been the hallmark of Kirby

Smart teams in the free-transfer era:

you don’t judge a Georgia team by its

first impression. You judge it by whether

it’s ascending when the weather turns.

The offensive line is playing its best

ball. Stockton has clearly grown into a

reliable centerpiece. The receiver room is

dangerous, the backs are both fast and

extremely hard runners, and the defense

is rediscovering its familiar mean streak.

There’s still work to do, and this league

punishes any hint of self-congratulation.

But if you’ve been waiting to see

whether this particular Georgia team

would find its identity, this past Saturday

night in prime time might go down as

the moment it finally clicked — not a

fluke, not a hold-on-and-hope win, but

a convincing, methodical statement that

the Bulldogs are no longer just searching

for their best version.

They’re starting to make it their home.

KEVIN BUTLER’S

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

COMPILED BY VANCE LEAVY

OFFENSIVE PLAYER

Gunner Stockton - Our Heisman Trophy candidate QB continued his

incredible play Saturday against the toughest defense the dogs have faced

this year, picking apart the Longhorns at will. Gunner is the real LANDMAN in

the state of Texas and Georgia for that matter and the fans in Texas can only

wish for a QB to execute like “THE GUNNER.” Stockton was almost mistake

free against the Horns completing 24-of-29 passes for 4 TDs , 229 yards and

1 int. GS spread the ball around to nine different receivers which kept the

Texas defense in complete confusion most of the night. Gunner showed

the newcomers to the SEC what a duel threat QB could and should do by

taking to the ground when needed. Stockton racked up 34 yards on 6 carries

capping the night off, for the greatest fans in the country, with a 4-yard TD

run with 4:43 remaining in the life of a whipped a steer called ”BEVO”…

which - in the great state of Georgia, we call that a “well done steak!” When

Gunner is cooking, the BIG DOG IS EATING!

DEFENSIVE PLAYER

Demello Jones- the sophomore from Swainsboro High School is

coming into his own as an elite defensive back in the SEC. Demello has

been demonstrating his athletic ability with great games against Ole

Miss and Saturday versus Texas. Jones stands 6-foot-1 in and checks

in at 185 pounds, but plays the game with a much bigger presence.

His speed is a big advantage for closing quickly on receivers and then

ends their attempt at yards after catch with focused physical intentions,

which are bad for opponents. My radio partner Jeff ”DA MAN” Dantzler

loves him some Demello … now he’s got me loving Demello too. As

we face Charlotte, DJ will get better and be ready for the biggest of all

challenge … the State Championship! The Dogs will need Demello’s

focused physical coverage and his continuing development the rest of

the way to the top of the mountain. Go #15 GO!

SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER

Zachariah Branch - If there is one thing I am thankful for leading into

the Thanksgiving season is ZB! That’s right - Zachariah Branch is one

exciting player. He is built for the special teams and for making plays.

Saturday was no different than what Zach is becoming known for...

speed and electrifying the crowd! Special teams was ZB’s stage Saturday

versus the Longhorns. Texas kicked off the second half trialing 14-3

and Zach returned the kickoff 44 yards and electrified the crowd which

played a big part in the ass whopping that would take place. Combine

that return with 30 yards on punt returns and Zachariah’s total yards for

the night was 93 yards with 70 yards coming in the 3rd quarter. Folks,

that’s six extra first downs accounted for from speed, determination and

teammates that know if they do their job, ZB will do his job! It’s a great

combination for the Bulldogs!

UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME

Athens had everything Between the Hedges Saturday. Two of

the best teams in the SEC, the SEC Commissioner, Uga XI, great

celebrities, not so great celebrities, former players, hall of famers, the

Redcoat Band, fireworks, John Bell, Kirby Smart and his kids. That’s

all we needed because Kirby brought his big Kahunas with him

and blew the Longhorns away once the dogs went up 21-10 with

a surprise onside kick that the Bulldogs recovered and made BEVO

weep like a baby calf at the slaughter house. The stadium was worse

than bonkers (I love that saying, thanks Larry, and the Dogs were off

and running. It takes a coach that has confidence in his team and

knowing when the time is right to roll the dice and HIT DOUBLES!

The Dogs hit double by recovering the ball and branding the beef

with a BIG G on its backside! Kirby - you have got what it takes to be

the Unsung Hero this week! Congrats to the Great Kahuna of Athens!

brought to you by BULLDAWG ILLUSTRATED + LAST RESORT GRILL

In honor of Athens’ distinction as one of the best music towns in the nation and the original

Last Resort opened as a music club in 1966. Those who can still remember the tunes of such

passionate performers as the Reverend Pearly Brown, Towns Van Zandt, Doc Watson, Jimmy

Buffett, and even Steve Martin may feel nostalgic at the mere mention of the club’s name.

Today that passion is found in Last Resort Grill’s menu and atmosphere, pulling directly from

the building’s eclectic history. - Compiled by: Cheri Leavy

Q&A

COMPILED BY: VANCE LEAVY

NAME: Andy Barksdale

FAMILY: Laura White Barksdale (1987 B.S.Ed. and 1994

M.Ed), Collier Barksdale (2021 BSFCS – Fashion Merchandising),

Morgan Barksdale (2022 – BBA Finance), and Addison Barksdale

(2026 – BBA Real Estate and Finance)

HOMETOWN: Athens, Georgia – Laura and I grew up on the

same street.

CURRENT TOWN: Charlotte, North Carolina

WHAT YEARS AT UGA: 1985-1989 (Undergraduate) and

1992-1993 (MBA)

SCHOOL/DEGREE: BBA Finance and MBA

PROFESSION: Managing Director/Owner – Symphonix (a

fantastic marketing agency)

ACCOLADES: UGA: Honors program graduate, Phi Kappa

Phi, Leadership UGA, Young Alumni of the Year – 1999. Terry

College Board Chair Emeritus – grateful for the opportunity and

friendships! 40 Under 40, Charlotte Business Journal

WHAT LIFE LESSONS DID YOU LEARN WHILE AT UGA?

People + Discipline: I learned that college isn’t just classrooms

and textbooks. It’s about the people. The best life lessons

came from road trips with fraternity brothers, late-night

conversations, and Main Library study sessions that veered off

course. UGA also taught me discipline – show up, do the work,

and follow through. That habit has never failed me.

WHAT PROFESSOR DID YOU MOST ADMIRE? Threeway

tie: Dr. Annette Poulsen (Finance) – smart and humble with a

remarkable ability to make complex topics understandable. Dr. Fred

Stephenson (Marketing) – he cared deeply about the classroom

experience and treated students like they were his customers. Dr.

James Don Edwards (Accounting) – his mantra, “look beyond the

numbers,” still rings true. What a great gift to have professors who

genuinely wanted you to learn, grow and achieve.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR GREATEST

ACHIEVEMENT? Laura Barksdale has raised three amazing,

hard-working children. She has taught them to think critically,

lead gracefully, and treat other people the right way. Assuming

I contributed a little bit to their journey, this would be my

greatest achievement.

WHICH HISTORICAL FIGURE DO YOU MOST

IDENTIFY WITH? I relate to Ronald Reagan, the Great

Communicator. He made America feel confident again. At a

time of economic struggle, global tension, and low national

morale, he brought optimism, a sense of simple clarity, and

a sense of humor. He spoke plain, direct language without

jargon. He could disagree without being bitter. Even people

who didn’t vote for him admitted they liked him, because he

carried himself with dignity, humor and humility. He didn’t just

lead, he lifted.

WHO ARE YOUR HEROES IN REAL LIFE? My heroes

are not

necessarily

famous. They

are the people

who do the right Andy Barksdale

thing when no one

is watching: the

schoolteachers

that truly love their students, the city council member who

represents everyone fairly, the police officer who serves and

protects with honor, and the college professor who teaches

because they care about shaping future leaders, not just

publishing research.

I also believe small business owners are heroes. They bet everything

on a dream. They work late, manage stress, overcome setbacks, take

risks, help others, and persist with most would stop. That kind of

courage never makes the news, but it keeps America running.

And I admire those who live with integrity. Walter Cronkite

didn’t shape history through politics or power, but through

credibility. I miss the days when our news was objective and

united us instead of dividing us.

QUOTE TO LIVE BY: “Don’t ask yourself what the world

needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that!

What the world needs is for you to come alive!”

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF PERFECT HAPPINESS? Being

surrounded by the people I love, with nothing on the calendar

except time together … and nothing more urgent than

deciding what is for dinner.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MARKED CHARACTERISTIC?

I’d like to think that I genuinely care about people. Whether it

is family, friends, team members at work … I try to make sure

people feel valued and supported.

WHAT DO YOU MOST VALUE IN YOUR FRIENDS?

I value loyalty, honesty, and people who show up when it

matters. Good friends don’t have to be perfect, just consistently

genuine. The best friends make life lighter.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT

YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Worry less. Most of

the things that keep me up at night never actually happen.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE WRITERS? Thomas

Carlyle helped shape the way I think about leadership, morality,

and the world around us. He believed that heroes matter…not

because they are famous, but because they tell the truth, inspire

virtue, and lift society by example. In a world full of political

spin and shallow popularity, Carlyle believed that integrity was

the real source of greatness.

FAVE SOCIAL MEDIA AND WHO TO FOLLOW?

I enjoy scrolling X and Instagram. It is a great way to keep

up with my kids. I also follow many of the Georgia Football

accounts and various fly fishing accounts – there is so much

to learn.
