Collider workbook
SuperCollider is a workbook published in July 2011, featuring new drawings, including Collider / gilded mandala, from a series of variations that explore the Fibonacci number sequence and its relationship to the natural world. The catalogue includes a brief text about the project on the last page, alongside working colour variants and other images associated with the project.

New work by Chuck Elliott / 07.2011 / pdf v1.01 / EDIT
Super COLLIDER is a new seies of drawings, derived from the Fibonacci number
sequence. The sequence is 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21 and so forth, and defines a multiplicity of
natural forms including a rolling wave, a sunflower head, the arc of the galaxy and the
human ear. Even the bones in the human hand are defined by the flow of the sequence.
For several years I’ve been trying to adapt the sequence into a complex geometry
that somehow works, and produce a new sculptural drawing from it. After much
experimentation, I’ve generated Collider, a kaleidoscopic image that embodies the
sequence, the curve it creates, and a sense of the natural forms it describes.
This document is designed simply as a bare bones overview of the work. A selection
of the images will be editioned as Lambda prints after colour balancing and scale
testing. The larger circular works may well be editioned at 1400 or 1800mm diameter,
so that the finely detailed central core can be clearly seen and the scale will heighten the
drawing’s strong visual impact. The cropped views will be editioned at smaller sizes. Final
dimensions and edition choices to be confirmed.
