Yinrui Intelligent:

Shaping the future

manufacturing

In Interview With Glass Bulletin, Sales Director

Sun Guochao Discusses Innovation, Global

Expansion And Growing Focus On India

In this interview with Glass Bulletin, Yinrui Intelligent

outlines its technological strengths, global growth and

rising commitment to the Indian glass market.

In a detailed conversation with

Glass Bulletin, Mr. Sun Guochao,

Sales Director of Yinrui Intelligent,

offers insights into the company’s

technological milestones, smart

factory capabilities and expanding

international footprint.

He reflects on Yinrui’s journey, its

strategy for global competitiveness,

and why India has become a pivotal

market in the company’s long-term

vision.

Excerpts:

Q. What milestones stand out in

Yinrui’s journey?

Yinrui Intelligent has achieved several

defining milestones over the years.

In 2015, the company rolled out its

10,000th fully automatic cutting

machine and launched the Anthony

high-end product series along with

its first automatic glass-breaking

system—significant steps in high-end

equipment development. In 2018,

the establishment of Anhui Sanda

Information Technology strengthened

the company’s software capabilities,

eventually earning CMMI Level 3

certification. In 2022, Yinrui was

named a national-level “Little Giant”

enterprise, and the CSG Zhaoqing

Factory’s intelligent transformation

project was successfully completed.

By 2025, Yinrui had delivered more

than 200 smart factory projects

worldwide, shipped over 10,000

complete cutting systems, and

served more than 1,000 industrial

software users.

Q. Please introduce Yinrui Intelligent.

Founded in 2005, Yinrui Intelligent

provides integrated software and

hardware solutions for intelligent

glass processing machinery. With

three R&D and production bases, two

research institutions, and nearly 500

employees, Yinrui serves more than

8,000 clients across 60+ countries.

The company invests more than 6%

of annual revenue in R&D, holds over

300 patents, and maintains a leading

domestic market share. Its products

and intelligent systems are widely

used across Europe, the Americas,

Southeast Asia, Russia, India, and

beyond.

Q. Which global regions have shown

the fastest growth in the past three

years?

From 2023 to 2025, Yinrui saw strong

growth in Europe, Southeast Asia,

and Russia, with overseas order

value more than doubling in 2025.

Key drivers included European

building intelligent line system

projects, major equipment orders

from Russia, and increased demand

from Southeast Asia. Growth was

supported by improved product

competitiveness, expanded overseas

exhibitions and agent networks, and

the establishment of a professional

global service framework.

Q. What gives Yinrui a competitive

edge in CNC cutting machinery?

Yinrui’s advantages lie in its strong

R&D foundation, intelligent system

ecosystem, and full-chain product

lineup. With continuous investment

and more than 300 patents, the

company leads in automated

cutting, intelligent storage, and

MES/ERP integration. Its solutions

combine equipment, software,

and data for end-to-end digital

management. Yinrui also maintains

strict quality standards through

multiple certifications and serves

well-known industry leaders such

as CSG, Fuyao, and Foxconn. A

global service network ensures fast

response and growing overseas

adoption.

Q. What role does the Indian market

play in Yinrui’s global strategy?

India is a vital market due to its

rapidly expanding construction,

automotive, and photovoltaic

sectors. The country’s increasing

demand for efficient, cost-effective

equipment aligns well with Yinrui’s

strengths. India also acts as a

strategic hub for South Asia, offering

access to neighboring markets.

With the local industry still reliant

on imported machinery, Yinrui sees

significant opportunity to establish a

strong early presence.

Glass Bulletin | October - December, 2025

65

Interview

Q. How has Yinrui positioned itself in

India?

Yinrui is steadily expanding in India,

currently serving primarily mid- to

high-end processors. The company

has introduced automated cutting

lines, intelligent storage machine,

and MES solutions tailored to local

needs. Sales channels include trade

fairs, industrial publications, and

customer referrals, supported by

overseas service centers. Yinrui has

built relationships with several SMEs

while targeting larger architectural

glass manufacturers with case-based

demonstrations of efficiency gains.

Q. What challenges and opportunities

do you see in India’s glass processing

sector?

Challenges include reliance on

manual processes, slow adoption

of intelligent equipment, policyrelated

uncertainties, and strong

competition from European

and Chinese brands. However,

opportunities are substantial. Rapid

urbanization, growth in photovoltaics

and automotive manufacturing,

and India’s push for industrial

upgrading are driving demand

for high-precision, automated

solutions. Yinrui’s cost-effective and

customizable equipment is wellpositioned

to serve these evolving

needs.

Q. What are the latest technological

developments in CNC flat glass

cutting, and how has Yinrui integrated

them?

Recent advancements include

full-process intelligent connection

integrating cutting, breaking,

storage, and MES/ERP systems;

high-precision cutting for ultra-thin

and ultra-thick glass; and enhanced

remote monitoring and data-driven

optimization. Yinrui integrates

these developments through its

Anthony high-end series, IoT-enabled

service platforms developed by

Sanda Information Technology, and

landmark projects such as the CSG

Zhaoqing smart factory.

Q. What quality certifications does

Yinrui hold?

Yinrui has implemented a

comprehensive quality management

system and holds certifications

including the Weapon and

Equipment Quality Management

System Certification. It is recognized

as a National High-tech Enterprise,

a national-level “Little Giant”

enterprise, and a National Science

and Technology-based SME. Key

products have been certified as

Anhui Province’s First Set of Major

Technical Equipment, reflecting

technological leadership.

Q. What is Yinrui’s long-term global

vision?

Yinrui aims to become a global

leader in intelligent glass processing,

increasing high-end equipment

import substitution to over 80%

within the next decade. The company

plans to transition into a full smart

factory solutions provider, expand

overseas revenue to more than 50%,

establish international production

bases, and reduce equipment energy

consumption by 30% by 2030.

Q. How does Yinrui plan to strengthen

its brand in India over the next 5–10

years?

Yinrui will focus on localized

communication through regular

participation in major Indian

exhibitions, digital marketing, and

Hindi-language technical content. It

aims to raise brand awareness from

30% to over 60% within five years.

The company also plans to build

10–15 benchmark smart factory cases

in India and has already established a

24-hour bilingual after-sales support

center to enhance service quality and

customer satisfaction.

4 Exhibitors On The Role Of The World’s Leading Trade Fair For The Glass Industry

international glass industry for

decades. But how relevant will it still

be in 2026 for the strategic goals

of its exhibitors, especially in view

of new market mechanisms, digital

channels and changing visitor groups?

The trade fair posed this question to

companies from various sectors for

their assessment. Christophe Schulz,

Head of Marketing at Saint-Gobain

Glass Germany, Marlen Debrot, Group

Communication Manager at Bucher

Emhart Glass, Bernhard Hötger,

CEO of HEGLA and Oliver Pichler,

CFO of the LiSEC Group, provided

insights into their expectations and

challenges. They also showed why

glasstec remains an indispensable

industry meeting place.

Trade fairs have been under

increased pressure since the

COVID-19 pandemic, as many

companies are scrutinising their

budgets more closely and trying

to assess the specific ROI of trade

fair participation. In addition, travel

restrictions, staff shortages and rising

costs are making participation more

difficult for international exhibitors

and visitors alike. What expectations

do exhibitors have of their trade fair

presence? What role does the trade

fair play today in sales and innovation

strategies? How do exhibitors deal

with changing visitor groups?

Marketing at Saint-Gobain Glass

Germany, exhibiting at glasstec is

a tradition: “glasstec has been one

of our most important trade fairs

for many years. We meet our direct

customers at our own customer

evening and at the trade fair itself. We

use the event to present innovations

and launch new campaigns. It is a

good start to the year! The trade

fair also has an important internal,

integrative function for us: Here,

employees from the global group

come together and use the time

not only for customer meetings but

also for internal networking. Visitor

interest at our stand remains high

even in post-pandemic times, with

growth currently expected primarily

from Asia. Some voices in the glass

industry share the concern that the

trade fair is developing too much

into a machine show, but we see

that glasstec is very committed to

working for and with our industry,

both editorially and with excellent

conferences on truly relevant topics

such as sustainable construction,

circularity and digitalisation. With

the excellent special show “glass

technology live”, it offers every visitor

the opportunity to look into the

future.”

Marlen Debrot, Group

Communication Manager at Bucher

Emhart Glass, positions the company

as a manufacturer of technologies

for the production and inspection

of hollow glass containers in a niche

market: “At glasstec, we meet our

customers every two years to have

good discussions and present our

developments. This fits in well with

our innovation cycle. Between trade

fairs, we support our customers

in their day-to-day business and

organise small events in various

markets to engage with customers

on an even more personal level.”

Debrot also gives their assessment

of changing visitor groups: “The

groups of trade visitors have changed

somewhat after the COVID-19

pandemic and due to global

developments. There are slightly

fewer technicians due to travel

restrictions and cost constraints, but

we still see international decisionmakers

from Asia, America, Europe

and Africa who use our hollow glass

solutions for the food and medical

sectors.”

Bernhard Hötger, CEO of HEGLA,

sees the trade fair’s growing relevance

in an international context: “For us,

as a machine manufacturer, glasstec

is more than ever the world’s leading

trade fair for the glass industry in the

Western world. China has decoupled

itself and found its own platform in

of their associated customers and

suppliers serve as quiet spots for a

meet & greet. It will be exciting to

see how visits from North America

develop, but we think that, as is

already the case, it will mainly be

decision-makers and specialists with

specific interests who will come. The

trips have to be worthwhile from a

business perspective, i.e. the focus

will be on specific technologies,

partnerships or innovations.”

Oliver Pichler, CFO of the LiSEC

Group, sees the relevance of the

trade fair in a similar light: “glasstec

remains the world’s leading trade fair

for glass processing. The decisionmakers

and target groups that are

Photo: LiSEC Holding GmbH

important to us are all there. The last

two trade fairs after the COVID-19

pandemic have shown that. LiSEC

uses glasstec not only for customer

care and networking, but above

all to present new solutions and

innovations. In sales, the focus is

on customer contacts for existing

customer care and acquisition. In

line with our innovation strategy, we

use glasstec to showcase the latest

developments alongside relevant

machine demonstrations. We always

base our presentation on a specific

trade fair theme in order to showcase

our comprehensive solution

expertise. Since we can usually only

showcase one or two machines live

at the trade fair, we present the rest

of our ‘all.in.one:solutions’ digitally or

virtually to bring interested parties

up to date and provide them with

relevant information. In the digital

age, trade fairs are certainly no

longer the only or main source of

information for interested parties.”

Pichler also sees changes in the

specific behaviour of visitors: “We

notice that visitors usually come to

the trade fair with specific agendas,

e.g. looking for specific information,

or they inform themselves in advance

or make appointments with the

relevant contact persons in order to

make good use of their time on site.

Spontaneous visits to trade fairs

have become rather rare. We also

notice that trade fair visitors want to

use their time more efficiently and

no longer stay on site for as long as

they used to. For LiSEC, this means

that relevant information is readily

available to customers during the

preparation phase and that their

visitor journey, from the promotion of

the trade fair to the visit on site and

the follow-up, is designed to be as

high quality as possible and tailored

to their needs.”

Especially in uncertain times, it is

important to know where to make

an impact: glasstec will once again

bring together international decisionmakers,

all areas of the glass industry

and research in Düsseldorf in 2026.

innovations live and open doors

Autopilot powers smooth start for

OviBest’s first tempering line

With Glaston’s Automated Furnace Technology, Ovibest Strengthens Its

Competitive Edge

OviBest’s first Glaston tempering furnace, equipped with Autopilot, transforms glass

processing with automation, precision and easy operation.

Founded in 2004 in Carei,

Romania, near the Hungarian

border, OviBest has grown

from a small workshop with just a

few employees into a company of

around 80 people. While it began

with PVC window production, the

company’s main focus today is glass

manufacturing, producing a wide

range of insulating glass units, as well

as tempered and laminated glass.

OviBest also provides integrated

solutions for residential, commercial

and industrial projects, offering

complete window and door systems,

along with individual glass products.

Thanks to its strategic location,

the company serves customers

in Romania and Hungary, as well

as across Italy, France, Austria and

Germany — exporting about half of

its total production.

“What makes us unique is our

focus on quality, reliability, and

flexibility,” says Marius Vaganyik,

Production Manager at OviBest. “We

manage the entire process from

glass processing to final installation,

ensuring customers receive

complete, ready-to-use solutions —

no matter where they are located.”

From outsourcing to

independence

After years of outsourcing tempering,

OviBest decided to bring the process

in-house to eliminate bottlenecks

affecting cost and delivery.

Marius explains: “Earlier, we cut the

glass and delivered it to our partners

for tempering. Often, when we went

to pick up the glass, two or three

pieces were missing because they

had been damaged during transport

or processing. We had to start over

again, which drove our costs up and

extended delivery times.”

He adds: “The demand for

tempered glass has been growing

over the last several years. Some

projects we couldn’t win because

our pricing was higher due to

outsourcing. We were losing business

to companies that already had their

own furnace.”

The first tempering line –

and the first Glaston

Before making the investment,

OviBest conducted thorough

research.

“We studied the market, compared

different suppliers, and visited two

or three other factories in Romania

to see their furnaces,” Marius says.

“Everywhere we went, we heard the

same thing — you can’t go wrong

with Glaston. It’s a big name in

processing equipment with a strong

international reputation, which gave

us additional confidence.”

Although it was OviBest’s first-ever

tempering furnace, the choice quickly

proved right. Delivered and installed

in June 2025, the new Glaston

furnace has been running smoothly

from day one.

“We made a significant investment

in this new tempering line, and we

are confident that it will help our

company grow and strengthen our

position in the market,” Marius says.

Autopilot – as easy as using

a smartphone

To ensure a smooth start despite the

team’s lack of experience in glass

tempering, OviBest equipped the line

with Glaston Autopilot. The results

have been exactly as expected

— uniform quality and simplified

process control.

“We selected Autopilot to simplify

operation and minimise adjustment

time. Full automation ensures both

efficiency and production stability,”

Marius explains. “And with Autopilot,

it’s as easy as using a smartphone

— you just touch it, and the magic

happens.”

He adds that even a first-time

operator can run the furnace

confidently. “Without Autopilot,

that wouldn’t be possible. Normally,

there are a lot of settings that

make it difficult to achieve the

right tempering. If you don’t know

what you’re doing, you could even

damage the machine.”

Uniform results and

reduced noise

Along with automated control

systems, the furnace includes

advanced convection technology

to ensure uniform heating and

consistent glass quality. A noise

reduction cabinet was also added to

the line.

“This is another great feature,” says

Marius. “Everything is enclosed, and

all the noise stays inside. We’ve seen

other companies without this feature,

and the furnace is so loud you can’t

even talk near it.”

With its own tempering capacity,

OviBest has eliminated breakage

risks, reduced costs and streamlined

production — strengthening its

competitiveness in the market.

Focused on growth and

efficiency

As OviBest celebrates two decades

of steady growth, the company is

now preparing for its next phase.

“We want to grow in the future,

particularly by expanding our exports

and continuing to invest in modern,

energy-efficient technologies,” Marius

says.

With Glaston technology, OviBest

is well equipped to take the next step

in its journey.

About Glaston

Glaston is the glass processing

industry’s technology leader,

providing equipment, services,

and solutions for the architectural,

The ignored risks, the invisible

losses

Why Indian Organizations Must Rethink About Risk Management Before It’s Too

Late

This article critically examines how the lack of structured risk management practices,

particularly within the framework of the Quality Management System ISO 9001:2015,

affects operational efficiency, decision-making and long-term sustainability of Indian

organizations. (Ref 12)

In India’s fast-evolving industrial

landscape, risk management

remains one of the most

misunderstood and underutilized

pillars of organizational success.

Despite growing adoption of ISO

standards Quality Management

Systems, many Indian companies still

treat risk assessment as a formality

rather than a foundation for decisionmaking.

(Ref 6)

The result is predictable yet costly,

such as quality failures, delayed

projects, customer dissatisfaction

and eroded profitability.

True risk management requires

understanding internal weaknesses

such as unclear values, inconsistent

culture, poor knowledge sharing,

and weak performance monitoring.

It also means mapping external

influences like legal changes, market

instability, technological disruption,

and environmental challenges. Most

importantly, it demands aligning

the needs and expectations of

stakeholders— customers, vendors,

employees, and regulators—with

organizational goals. (Ref 13)

Unfortunately, Indian companies

often overlook this integrated

approach. Risks are addressed

reactively, not proactively. Data

is gathered but not analyzed.

Committees are formed but never

empowered. This short-sightedness

leads to invisible yet compounding

losses — from equipment downtime

and compliance penalties to lost

customer trust and employee

disengagement. Every rupee lost to

poor risk control could have been a gain through preventive action.

Internal risks and the culture of self-satisfaction

Many Indian organizations operate with informal systems and undocumented

processes. Values are stated but rarely practiced in behavior’s, communication

flows downward but not often upward. When employees hesitate to report

process deviations, organizations lose the opportunity to prevent larger failures.

A weak internal culture results in inconsistent decision-making and reactive

problem-solving. Knowledge from experienced staff remains undocumented,

and performance is measured by activity rather than outcomes.

QMS ISO 9001:2015 calls for structured process management, measurable

objectives, and continual improvement (Ref 6). Ignoring these fundamentals

allows small issues — such as poor goal setting and reviews, poor checks,

misaligned machinery or uncalibrated instruments — to escalate into major

quality losses.

Why it is ignored/overlooked/neglected: (Ref 12)

Mindset problem:

Fear of exposure:

Lack of awareness:

No dedicated ownership:

Many managers still see ISO/QMS as a certification requirement, not as a

management system for strategic improvement.

Assessing internal culture or knowledge gaps often uncovers leadership weaknesses

— something many organizations prefer to avoid.

Few know that Clause 4.1 and 6.1 of ISO 9001 specifically require context and riskbased

analysis.

The quality department alone cannot drive organizational risk assessments; it

requires leadership involvement.

What are the problems that they face? A few are listed below

When these assessments are skipped, critical internal weaknesses remain

hidden:

Values misalignment:

Toxic culture:

Knowledge loss:

Unmeasured performance:

Production pressure overrides quality commitment, leading to rework and

customer dissatisfaction.

Departments work in isolation, causing communication breakdown and fingerpointing.

When skilled operators leave, know-how disappears — and the same mistakes

repeat.

Without KPIs, management flies blind; they only react after a problem occurs.

manufacturing maturity, over

67% of MSMEs lack a formal risk

management process (Ref 11).

Limited leadership awareness: Top

management often considers ISO

9001 as a certification goal, not a

business improvement framework.

This cultural mindset prevents

integration of risk thinking into

operations

Fear of exposure: True risk analysis

often reveals uncomfortable truths

— outdated machines, missing BIS

compliance, or single-customer

dependency. Many firms prefer not to

document these openly.

Reactive work culture: Indian

manufacturing has a long-standing

habit of reacting post-crisis rather

than predicting failures — particularly

in sectors like glass processing where

customer complaints appear months

after delivery

Mr. Prashant Hiremath (centre) with his team at their stall at the glasspro 2025 expo in Mumbai.

The real cost/real loss of

ignoring these internal risks:

(Ref 2)

Ignoring internal risks directly

translates into financial and

reputational loss:

;;

Revenue lost in rework,

rejection, and delays.

;;

Low employee morale

leads to staff turnover and

retraining costs. Ref (https:/

www.researchgate.net/

publication/211392097_The_

Cost_of_Employee_Turnover)

;;

Customer trust declines,

reducing repeat business.

;;

Profits stand still despite

heavy investment in

machinery.

External challenges in an

unpredictable environment

Legal, technological, and

environmental volatility pose

significant external risks. Many

firms struggle to comply with safety,

labor, and environmental laws,

exposing themselves to penalties.

Rapid technological shifts — like

automation and AI — create

opportunities but also threaten

unprepared businesses (Ref 8).

Market and weather fluctuations

further complicate operations.

Sudden inflation or supply

disruptions reduce margins, while

seasonal flooding or heat waves

affect uptime and safety. ISO 9001’s

Clause 4.1 emphasizes understanding

such contextual factors to ensure the

ability to bounce back from difficult

situations and adapt well to stress

like situations (Ref 6- ISO 9001: 2015).

Organizations that neglect this step

operate reactively and lose agility.

Why it Is ignored/

overlooked/neglected:

Focus on production, not

prevention: Many factories emphasize

day-to-day output rather than

identifying future risks. According

to a 2023 survey by FICCI on Indian

The real cost/real loss of

ignoring these external risks:

(Ref 2)

Lost market share: Studies show

Indian glass manufacturers using

structured risk management improve

order fulfillment, while traditional

ones face frequent delivery failures

Reduced profitability: Rework,

wastage, and customer complaints

typically cut Profits.

Regulatory exposure: Noncompliance

with environmental

or labor laws can attract penalties

per incident under Indian EHS

regulations.

Brand reputation loss: In

architectural projects, one failure

in tempered or laminated glass can

affect a company’s market reputation

for years, leading to recurring

business loss.

No Business Continuity: During

COVID-19 and 2023 energy crisis

phases, companies without

external risk mapping faced 2–3x

longer recovery times compared

to ISO-certified competitors. Risk

management helps to work for

Stakeholder expectations:

The neglected dimension

Unmet stakeholder needs are

among the most serious risks to

sustainability. When customers’

quality expectations are ignored,

brand reputation declines. When

vendors face late payments, supply

continuity suffers. When employees

lack training or recognition,

productivity drops

(Ref 10 - April 1, 2024, Report by

Claire Smith).

Clause 4.2 of ISO 9001:2015

requires identifying and addressing

the needs and expectations of

interested parties (ISO, 2015).

Successful organizations treat

stakeholder feedback as a data

source for improvement rather than

criticism.

Proactive engagement with

customers, suppliers, and regulators

reduces uncertainty and fosters trust.

Why it is ignored/

overlooked/neglected: (Ref

12)

Lack of awareness: Many owners

see “Interested Party Analysis” as

theoretical paperwork, not realizing it

directly affects profit margins.

No structured system: Risk-based

thinking is still new to many small

and mid-size glass processors who

operate with limited documentation

culture.

Reactive management: Companies

act after receiving a complaint,

penalty, or inspection- not before it.

Time pressure: Leaders spend all

day in operations, leaving no time for

stakeholder engagement or feedback

systems.

Consultant-driven, not culturedriven:

Risk assessment is often done

just for ISO certification files, not for

management learning.

The real cost/real loss of

ignoring these stakeholders

risks: (Ref 2)

Based on industry observations.

;;

Companies that perform

regular stakeholder risk

analysis show higher customer

retention. (Ref 3)

;;

Lack of supplier evaluation

and communication causes

production delays. (Ref 4)

;;

Employee-related risks

(safety, morale) contribute to

productivity loss in unassessed

plants. (Ref 5)

;;

Ignoring compliance

stakeholders results in legal

money penalties per violation

in India. (Ref 7)

The summary of invisible

losses -- cost of ignoring

risk:

In India, risks often remain unnoticed

until they manifest as losses. Without

a structured risk register or rootcause

analysis, issues recur. Studies

suggest that poor risk management

can erode the annual profits through

inefficiencies, rework and noncompliance.

(Ref 9)

Beyond financial metrics, the

intangible costs — reduced morale,

damaged reputation, and wasted

time — can severely impact longterm

sustainability. Preventive

management, on the other hand,

converts risk control into measurable

savings and continuous improvement.

The roadmap to risk-resilient

growth

A risk-resilient organization integrates

prevention into every decision.

Recommended QMS/ISO-aligned

practices include:

;;

Establishing a risk

management framework:

Identify, evaluate, and rank

risks.

;;

Integrating risk into decisionmaking:

Connect risk analysis

to budgeting and planning.

;;

Empowering employees:

Promote open reporting

without fear.

;;

Using data for prevention:

Analyze audit findings and

customer feedback

;;

Engaging stakeholders:

Maintain transparency with

partners and regulators

;;

Promoting continuous learning:

Provide risk-awareness

training and knowledge

sharing.

Such systems enable foresightdriven

management, turning

uncertainty into opportunity.

Conclusion

In today’s volatile environment, risk

is unavoidable — but loss is not

unavoidable.

Indian organizations that ignore

risks associated with internal

inefficiencies, external pressures,

and stakeholder dissatisfaction

will continue firefighting instead of

improving.

On the contrary, those that adopt

QMS systems or risk-based thinking

will achieve sustained growth,

compliance, and customer trust.

With use of this data generated

from risks, mitigation and results,

organizations set their risk appetite

limit and take calculated risk in

business to grab new opportunities

(Ref 1- From threat to opportunity |

PwC’s Global Risk Survey 2023)

Year 2023 Global Risk Survey shows

that Indian business leaders are

doing a reasonable job of identifying

opportunities presented by risks.

Deemed as value creators rather

than value protectors, A majority

of surveyed Indian organizations

problems, but are actively pursuing

opportunities, sometimes by taking

calculated risks. Specifically, 62%

are intentionally taking on risk to

create new opportunities, while 60%

are actively looking for ways to turn

potential risks into advantages. This

indicates a high-risk appetite and

a proactive, opportunity-focused

mindset in the Indian business sector,

Super Spacer® enables complex

bending geometries

Precision-Engineered Curved Glass Brings “The Oculus” To Life At Australian War

Memorial

Cricursa’s curved glass expertise and Super Spacer® technology shaped “The Oculus”

— a remarkable skylight uniting art, engineering and remembrance at the war

memorial.

For glass bending specialist

Cricursa, complex projects

have been part of its DNA for

many years. Nevertheless, the curved

glass petals — some of which were

designed as insulating elements

for the skylight in the underground

entrance foyer of the Australian War

Memorial in Canberra — presented

many challenges. With doublecurved

bends, opposite directions

of curvature along the axes, and a

finish involving digital printing and

fluted edges, the Cricursa team had

to give it their all. The fact that each

of the 32 elements, weighing up

to 350 kilograms, could ultimately

be fitted precisely into the steel

structure — manufactured 17,000

kilometres away — was thanks to the

expertise of the companies involved,

as well as their use of digital tools for

intercontinental collaboration. The

Super Spacer® TriSeal Flex spacer

was equally indispensable for the

success of the project, guaranteeing

a permanently tight insulating glass

edge seal even with these complex

geometries.

The Skylight Is the

Mathematical Inverse of the

Copper Dome

With its dome visible from afar, the

Australian War Memorial in Canberra

is monumental in the truest sense

of the word. Established as a place

to commemorate those who were

killed or injured in war, the 14-hectare

site comprises five buildings and

a sculpture garden, and serves as

a museum to promote a deeper

understanding of the consequences

of war. Construction of the iconic

memorial began in 1919; it opened in

1941, and extensive redesign work has

been underway for several years and

will continue until 2028.

The most spectacular part of

the renovation is probably “The

Oculus,” the round skylight in the new

entrance foyer, which opened on 3

February 2025. This nine-metre-wide,

12-tonne steel-and-glass structure

is a mathematical inversion of the

Byzantine dome above the central

memorial site of the War Memorial,

the Hall of Memory. While the dome

seems to reach into the distance, the

element with a diameter of three

metres and sixteen double-curved

glass leaves. These insulating glass

elements are around 55 millimetres

thick and consist of two layers of

extra-clear, tempered laminated

glass bonded with SentryGlass film,

as well as a 12-millimetre-thick Super

Spacer® TriSeal Flex black warmedge

spacer from Edgetech. Varying

groove profiles and digital print

patterns, together with the unusual

geometry, create a visually fascinating

effect. Inside the dome, a further

sixteen laminated glass elements

with opposite curvatures along each

axis form a veil of hyperboloidshaped

glass flowers.

The Tightest Tolerances and

Perfect Surfaces

An international team worked for

more than five years with general

contractor Kane Constructions

to implement the highly complex

structure. Sydney-based façade

specialist Prism Facades developed

the design, while Apex Welding

& Steel Fabrication, based in

Thomastown near Melbourne,

manufactured the steel support

structure. After installation on site,

each steel frame was completely

encased in 3-millimetre-thick brass

sheet metal. The glass elements

were manufactured by Cricursa, the

division specialising in curved glass

within the Spanish Tvitec Group.

The first samples were produced

in 2020 and handed over to the

Australian design team to visualise

the surfaces. This was followed

by the production of full-size

prototypes, which were approved

by the customer before the curved

glass units were produced in the

second half of 2023 and installed in

September 2024. “We had to work

with very tight tolerances to meet

the installation requirements. This

project required a very high degree

of accuracy, both to ensure a perfect

fit between the glass elements and

to harmonise the complex geometry

with the different surface treatments

and print designs,” explains Carlos

Pajuelo, Technical Director at Cricursa.

“The key factor here was

calculating the exact position of the

digital print and crease line before

bending, which was a particularly

challenging task given that these

surfaces cannot be smoothed. We

use our own internal methods,

developed over many years, to

perform these calculations,” he

continues.

Each glass pane was checked using

3D scanners to capture its actual

silhouette and compare it with the

theoretical model. To ensure that all

the glass elements would fit exactly

onto the steel frames manufactured

in Australia, the steel designer and

the glass team collaborated using

a shared 3D file, ensuring that they

always had access to the latest data.

Additionally, 3D digitalisations of the

glass silhouettes were provided to

the client to enable them to check

the theoretical fit. Differences in the

thermal expansion coefficients of

steel and glass were compensated

for using installation gaps and

silicone joints. These details were

analysed early in the project to avoid

potential problems and ensure the

curved glazing would fit precisely

into the mounting points. The steel

fabricator’s tolerances were also

extremely tight at ±1 mm. Several

trial assemblies were necessary to

control and minimise deformation

during the complicated welding

process. Prior to final installation in

Canberra, the entire Oculus structure

was assembled to verify the fit of the

glass panes and assess the structural

behaviour of the assembly.

Super Spacer® Provides the

Necessary Flexibility and

Stability

Cricursa has used Super Spacer® for

around 20 years in the manufacture

of curved glazing with complex

geometries. “The introduction of

Super Spacer Flex in particular

was a significant advancement.

It is slightly stronger than other

Super Spacer products, offering the

necessary flexibility and stability

for these heavy, complex, curved

double-glazing units. The challenging

geometry of the Oculus could only be

realised with Super Spacer Flex. We

therefore agreed with our client at an

early stage of the planning process

that using this spacer was essential

to ensure the tightness of the space

between the panes,” says Pajuelo.

All components of the insulating

glass units’ edge seals had to be

designed to withstand mechanical,

wind-related, and climatic loads

in accordance with project

requirements. This presented a

particular challenge for very rigid,

curved insulating glass units, since

the glass yields minimally due to

its high rigidity. Consequently, the

sealants had to absorb almost all

climatic loads independently.

The Super Spacer® TriSeal Flex

spacer’s special design compensates

for tolerances in the parallelism

of large, complex curved panes.

Although the structural foam is the

same as that used in conventional

T-spacers, the greater depth provides

increased strength in the edge seal

and a larger surface area for applying

the primary seal. These features

ensure greater safety, lower gas loss,

and reduced moisture absorption.

“With highly complex glazing,

there is no room for compromise.

The flexible structural foam of Super

Spacer absorbs stress, compensates

for tolerances, and ensures the edge

seal remains intact, even in the

toughest conditions,” emphasises

Mike Moran, Vice President of Sales

at Edgetech/Quanex.

Press Glass UK unifies production

with LiSEC automation

New Port Talbot Facility Streamlines Operations, Boosts Efficiency & Sets New

Benchmark For Automated Glass Manufacturing In UK

By integrating LiSEC’s advanced machinery and software, Press Glass UK achieves

greater precision, higher output and seamless digital production control.

With the launch of its new

state-of-the-art facility

in Port Talbot, Press Glass

UK has successfully brought three

sites together under one roof. LiSEC

played a key role in the transition,

providing customised machinery

and software solutions to support

a more streamlined and consistent

production process. The collaboration

has helped lay the groundwork

for greater efficiency and future

scalability.

Press Glass UK Launches

New Facility in Port Talbot

In November 2024, Press Glass UK

began production at its new 23,000

m² factory. The site features six

LiSEC insulating glass lines, seven

cutting tables, and three KSR arrising

machines, as well as three tempering

furnaces from another supplier. It

currently produces 32,000 insulating

glass units (IGUs) per week, with

capacity to scale up to 55,000.

Khaled Elleboudy, Managing

Director, on his plans for the Port

Talbot production: “We wanted to

move three factories into one, to

improve efficiency, reduce costs, and

offer a higher level of automation.

Automation is going to be key for the

future.”

Engineering Director Lukasz

Matlingiewicz adds: “Our goal with

this new glass manufacturing facility

is to significantly increase production

capacity, improve quality standards,

and meet the growing demand in

the market. This investment reflects

our long-term commitment to

innovation, sustainability, and job

creation in the region.”

One of the main challenges

Press Glass faced was to carefully

plan and coordinate efficiency and

precision across all production

lines. Khaled looks back: “The

machinery installation progressed

more smoothly and more quickly

than I expected. Installation began

in mid-July 2024 and successfully

transitioned all our production into

the new factory by the first quarter

of 2025.”

LiSEC: A Trusted Partner

The decision to partner with LiSEC

was driven by a long-standing

relationship and proven experience

with the company’s machinery. Press

Glass had already been using LiSEC

cutting tables and KSRs for decades

– some for as long as 30 years –

demonstrating their exceptional

reliability and longevity. The software,

once configured, also proved to be

highly dependable. “LiSEC was able

to meet all our project requirements,

including the software integration

around the machines,” Khaled says.

He also highlights another

factor: project competence. “John

Foster’s engineering expertise was

instrumental in the project. Although

in sales, his deep knowledge of LiSEC

machinery helped guide design

decisions and recommend tailored

modifications. The team customised

several machines – including cutting

tables and production lines – based

on project needs. With experienced

support from both the UK and

Austrian teams, LiSEC delivered a

highly competent and knowledgeable

partnership.”

Seamless Systems, Smart

Production: Press Glass UK’s

Software Solution

The transition to higher automation

was supported by existing operator

knowledge, with software integration

posing the main challenge. A custom

monitoring system was developed

to streamline production and order

tracking. LiSEC’s GPS.autofab was

implemented across the factory floor

for remake management, while GPS.

prodcontrol handles scanning and

tracking processes. Simplicity was

prioritised from the outset, with GPS.

order processing retained to ensure

continuity.

Kasia Golembowska, Technical

Development Engineer, shares: “At

Press Glass UK, our main goal with

the LiSEC software is to optimise

production by reducing waste

while increasing output. The more

efficient we can make that process –

especially through automation – the

better. We have customised a lot of

elements within the LiSEC system

to suit our specific workflow, which

has helped make the software an

integral part of our daily operations.

Ultimately, we want to make life

easier for our operators and keep

the plant running as smoothly as

possible.”

At Press Glass, real-time insight

across the entire factory is essential

for improving tracking, planning, and

decision-making. While automated

sections are fully integrated, the

same level of transparency and

control has not yet been achieved

manually. Kasia adds: “That said,

we have been fortunate to have

exceptional LiSEC software engineers

on site who have gone above and

beyond during the start-up phase

and training. That level of experience

and dedication has been invaluable.”

Automation in Action: The

First Buffer System in the

UK

Among the most significant changes

in the new production facility at Port

Talbot was the introduction of a LiSEC

sorting system and buffer – the first

of its kind in the UK. While upgrades

to cutting tables, KSRs, and IGU

lines were seen as improvements

on existing equipment, the buffer

system introduced an entirely new

operational process. Adapting to this

change required a shift in mindset,

particularly in how glass is tracked.

Previously, glass and batch numbers

were visible and manually managed.

With the new system, tracking is

handled entirely through the GPS.

autofab software, requiring operators

to rely on digital visibility.

Managing buffer levels also

presented a learning curve. In older

factories, production was driven by

volume – cutting as much glass as

possible to meet targets. However,

this approach proved incompatible

with the new sorting system, which

requires careful planning: batches

must be fully loaded into the buffer

before they can be transferred

to the IGU line. Despite these

challenges, the benefits of the buffer

system – especially in annealed

glass processing – have become

increasingly clear. Glass is now cut

directly into the sorting system and

flows seamlessly to the IGU line,

streamlining the entire process.

Khaled on the buffer system:

“We see several benefits – reduced

manual handling, fewer errors,

improved quality, and higher output.

The process is more efficient and

keeps production moving.”

Looking to the future, Khaled

says: “Our goal is to complete

the software solutions we have

developed with LiSEC. We are

planning to implement the same

software solutions across our other

three UK factories, including Barnsley,

Peterborough, and Scotland. Each

factory operates slightly differently –

different software versions, different

monitoring setups. Unifying these

systems is essential. Once we

finalise the solution here, we will

implement it across all sites to ensure

consistency and efficiency.”
