The German Chips CompetenceCentre (G3C):
Germany’s Gateway to Europe’s
Semiconductor Ecosystem
Serving as a central gateway, G3C links Germany’s semiconductor ecosystem
with European design and manufacturing pilot lines, coordinates their use,
and facilitates collaboration across EU member states.
Implemented by the Research Fab
Microelectronics Germany (FMD),
G3C supports companies, start-ups
and research institutions along the
semiconductor value chain, from chip
design to wafer-level processing
and system integration.
Mission
• Serve as Germany’s access point to the European Network of Chip
Competence Centres (ENCCC)
• Provide access to design tools pilot lines
• Support technology transfer “from lab to fab”
• Foster skills, collaboration and innovation across the microelectronics
community
Core Expertise
G3C connects all players from the semiconductor industry in Germany with
leading research and development partners across Europe, enabling access
to expertise and infrastructure in, among others:
• Chip and system design
• Heterogeneous and 2.5/3D integration
• Wafer-level packaging and testing
• Quantum and AI-enabled microelectronics
• Open-source design tools
From Idea to Implementation
G3C helps innovators transform semiconductor ideas into reality through:
• Design consultation and technology guidance
• Access to advanced design environments and IP libraries
• Prototyping and process support via national and European pilot lines
• Packaging, assembly and test coordination
G3C works closely with the APECS Pilot Line and the
FMD One-Stop-Shop, connecting German users to
industry providers and R&D services from universities
and non-university research institutions, including
other european pilot lines such as nanoIC and FAMES,
for rapid prototyping and validation.
Who Benefits
• SMEs and start-ups developing novel chip solutions
• Research institutes and universities seeking collaboration
• Industry partners exploring integration technologies
• Policy makers and investors supporting European chip sovereignty
