Tradition in Motion: The Nativity Trails of the Ascona-Locarno Region
In the Locarno area, Christmas traditions come to life under the open sky. In Corippo, the Notti incantate (12–14
December) transform the mountain village into a magical setting illuminated by lights, music and alpine flavours. In
Vira Gambarogno, a village-wide nativity exhibition (14 December–6 January) invites visitors to rediscover alleys and
small squares in a festive atmosphere. In Moghegno, the Via dei Presepi (6 December–7 January) leads through
artisanal installations and the winding streets of the historic centre. New this year is Ascona with Le Strade dei
Presepi (6 December–7 January): a charming walk through the old town featuring installations created in
collaboration with Moghegno’s longstanding nativity tradition. Together, these routes offer an authentic Christmas
experience between lake and valleys – ideal for families and easily accessible by public transport.

Winter in Bellinzona: Gospel Voices and Market Charm Amid History and Lights
In December, the Bellinzona region hosts major international gospel artists. Dave Gulley & The Cleveland Chorale
perform on December 14 th at San Giovanni Church, followed by the Florida Inspiration Singers on December 20 th at
the Teatro Sociale, and the High Praise Singers on December 28 th in Airolo. Complementing the concert lineup is
Bellinzona’s Christmas market, which fills the historic centre and Viale Stazione on December 14 th and 21 st with nearly
200 stalls offering crafts, music and festive ambience. It’s an ideal combination of local shopping and UNESCO
heritage, creating a perfect backdrop for a relaxed Advent weekend.

Art and Graphics: Picasso in the Mendrisiotto
Until January 25 th 2026, the Museo d’arte Mendrisio presents “Pablo Picasso, Maestro dell’Incisione”, an exhibition
dedicated to the artist’s graphic work, featuring etchings, linocuts, lithographs and aquatints. A public guided tour
will take place on Sunday, December 14 th , at 3:00 pm. A rare opportunity to explore Picasso’s graphic techniques up
close. The exhibition brings a high-profile cultural highlight to the Mendrisiotto, perfect for those wishing to
combine art appreciation with a visit to the southernmost part of Ticino during the atmospheric Christmas season.

New Year’s Eve on Monte Generoso: Ringing in the New Year Above the Clouds
A special experience is also offered by Monte Generoso: on December 31 st , 2025, the traditional Buffet Bellavista will
delight its guests from 7:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. in the famous grotto at the summit. The ride on the panoramic cogwheel
railway from Capolago sets the winter mood with the scent of the forest, crisp air, and impressive views. At the top,
guests can look forward to the warmth of the fireplace, a 4-course menu with Ticino specialties (assorted starters,
pumpkin risotto with bacon, oven-roasted suckling pig, and the dessert “Tiraminvetta”) as well as music by a DJ. Free
