Standard Bank
Group Investments:
building wealth through
a connected ecosystem
Famida Singh, Executive Head: Investment Proposition, Standard Bank Investment and Asset Management
As Africa’s largest bank, Standard Bank offers a comprehensive,
end-to-end investment journey tailored to individual needs.
Famida Singh, Executive Head: Investment Proposition at
Standard Bank Investment and Asset Management, explains how
this vision is being realised.
Standard Bank Group Investments (SBGI) is uniquely positioned
to bring together clients, distribution channels and specialist
investment skills into one powerful proposition, allowing us to
deliver solutions that secure the financial futures of individuals,
families and institutions. As part of the Standard Bank Investment
and Asset Management cluster, SBGI sits alongside Libfin, STANLIB
and African Asset Management. Together, it forms one of the most
powerful investment ecosystems on the continent. What sets SBGI
apart is its ability to integrate clients, distribution, platforms and
specialist investment skills into a single value chain.
A purpose-driven investment philosophy
At its core, SBGI believes in partnering with advisers and clients
to inspire, grow and protect their wealth. This purpose is reflected
in every interaction, every solution and every strategic decision.
It’s a philosophy that unites our diverse investment brands and
teams under a shared commitment to sustainable growth and
client-centricity.
Platforms that power growth
Historically, Standard Bank operated multiple platforms, including
STANLIB’s LISP and several life company and offshore vehicles.
Over the past few years, this strategy has been streamlined into
two core platforms. INN8, the South African group investment
platform, which is designed for scale, transparency, straight
through processing and adviser empowerment. Standard Bank
International, the newly launched offshore group investment
platform, responds to the growing demand for hard‐currency
investments and provides the structures needed for tax efficiency,
succession planning and long‐term wealth continuity. Together,
these platforms form the backbone of a connected financial
ecosystem, backed by our unwavering commitment to offering the
best-in-class solutions and tailored financial guidance.
SBGI’s key differentiator
is its ownership of the
entire value chain.
SBGI’s distribution model is adviser-led and far-reaching.
Within Standard Bank Financial Consulting, a broad team of
advisers works alongside the personal and private banking
division. The wealth and investment business is supported by a
dedicated group of wealth managers who serve high-net-worth
clients with significant investable assets. Beyond the bank, SBGI
extends its reach by providing investment solutions to Liberty
Advisory Partners, a wide network of trusted advisers, and
services the independent financial adviser market through a
Standard Bank Group Investments’ dynamic ecosystem provides
our market-leading advisory businesses with world-class
investment solutions designed to serve a diverse spectrum of
clients. At the heart of this proposition lies a commitment to growth
of wealth, opportunity and trust.
dedicated distribution team. This breadth ensures that solutions
are not just manufactured but delivered in partnership with those
who know clients best.
Following the acquisition of Liberty minorities nearly three
years ago, SBGI consolidated its wide range of solutions into a
recommended fund range, best‐of‐breed portfolios branded per
channel. These solutions feature top global managers, selected
through rigorous due diligence and offered at competitive fees
thanks to SBGI’s scale. Across Standard Bank and Liberty, the Group
oversees a substantial pool of assets, with a significant portion
dedicated to retail investors.
A refined approved fund list has narrowed hundreds of options
to the most effective managers across asset classes, so that clients
and advisers benefit from both simplicity and excellence.
SBGI’s key differentiator is its ownership of the entire value
chain from distribution platforms to manufacturing. With one
of the largest client bases in South Africa, the country’s most
extensive distribution force and world‐class investment capabilities
through fund solutions, SBGI is uniquely positioned. This depth not
only gives us the ability to provide market-leading solutions but
also allows SBGI to reinvest in world‐class teams.
Meeting client needs across segments
Our investment offering is structured to meet the evolving needs
of different client segments. In the affluent space, clients benefit
from the recommended fund range, designed to achieve client
goals. Where advisers require more choice, we have an Approved
Fund List (AFL), which includes leading on- and offshore managers.
High-net‐worth clients are served through Melville Douglas, which
offers both single‐manager and diversified discretionary asset
management, while ultra‐high-net‐worth clients receive fully bespoke
portfolios tailored to their specific goals and family wealth continuity.
We seek to deliver first‐ and second‐quartile performance. Our
teams bring extensive experience across fund solutions, discretionary
asset management and platform development.
Just as importantly, the Group has built intuitive platforms that
make it easy for advisers to focus on what matters most: helping
clients build and protect their wealth.
The future of international investing
We also recognise that high-net-worth individuals require more
than access to global markets; they require clarity, cohesion and
confidence. That is why we have redefined the international
investment experience, bringing together banking, fiduciary and
investment services under one unified platform.
We offer a consolidated international proposition that
integrates investment accounts and international endowments
structured into a single platform, offering streamlined reporting
within a consolidated compliance framework.
This unified approach simplifies the complexities of crossborder
investing, enabling advisers to deliver tailored solutions
that meet the multifaceted needs of globally mobile clients. Our
ability to offer cradle to-grave financial services, from banking
and lending to estate planning, fiduciary services and structured
products, positions us uniquely on the continent. Advisers benefit
from a one-stop solution that reduces the friction of navigating
expatriation rules, FAIS and SARS requirements as well as multijurisdictional
compliance. The result: better advice, simpler
execution and enhanced client outcomes.
Scale and sophistication: a competitive advantage
Standard Bank Group leverages its scale to negotiate preferential
terms and access best-of-breed investment solutions. Through
Liberty’s balance sheet, we offer endowment wrappers that
combine tax efficiency, estate planning benefits and structured
product exposure, delivering protection and yield in a single
instrument. These solutions are available to individuals, corporates
and trusts, and are designed to address today’s market volatility
by helping clients understand their potential future outcomes
today as well as providing a degree of capital protection.
Global thinking, local execution
International investing opens doors to global opportunities.
Through Standard Bank International (SBI), we provide asset
swap capabilities for corporates and trusts as well as endowment
wrappers for individuals.
Advisory-led, bespoke solutions
We are, first and foremost, an advisory business. International
investing demands bespoke planning, and we deliver this through
a combination of internal expertise and partnerships with
independent advisers. Our approach is goals-based, focusing on
real-term growth and capital protection. Through our Funds Solution
business, we source top-tier managers and construct portfolios
with peer awareness and inflation-plus targets. Daily stewardship,
rigorous manager selection and continuous performance monitoring
ensure alignment with client objectives.
