Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri

During my studies in both composition and conducting, I encountered many works that inspired me

and shaped my musical writing, especially for winds. Homage is a short four-movement piece that nods to

“neo-classicism” while paying tribute to the composers and conductors from whom I have drawn inspiration.

I. Intrada — A fanfare-like opening with cascading scales and brief quotations from a prelude featuring

obscure tonality.

II. Scherzo — A lively movement infused with Thai folk-inspired rhythms in a mixed meter.

III. Nachtmusik — A slow, lyrical movement led by the horn, evoking the calm of a night breeze.

IV. Toccata — A vigorous nale, driven by rhythmic energy and virtuosic interplay across the ensemble,

with a homage to Thai boxing music.

I dedicate this piece to the conducting professors who inspired me and nurtured my love for the wind

medium.

Composer: Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri

Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri (b.1995) is a Thai composer known internationally for blending Thai

soundscapes with contemporary styles, establishing him as a leading gure among emerging Asian

composers. His works have been performed internationally by ensembles such as the Thailand Philharmonic

Orchestra, Tacet(i) Ensemble, Cory Band (UK), Meiden High School Symphonic Band (Japan), University of

Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory (Kansas City, MO), Georgia State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble

(Atlanta, GA), and at festivals including the RNCM International Brass Band Festival 2025 (UK), Asia and

Pacic Band Directors’ Association (Singapore, 2025), World Saxophone Congress (Croatia, 2018; France,

2015), and the International Trumpet Guild (US, 2023).

Viskamol is the founder of thaiwindcomposers.com, a resource and community dedicated to promoting

wind music in Thailand. He has been recognized with awards including J.W. Pepper’s Editors' Choice (2025),

the ARTZenter Institute Emerging Composer Completion Grants (2025), the James E. Croft Grant for Young

and Emerging Wind Band Composer (2024) and winner of Austin Symphonic Band’s third annual Young

Composers’ Contest (2024).
