Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to the first issue of 2026.

A new year invites us to pause, breathe, and look

back with honesty and kindness. Reflect on the good

things you achieved in 2025 - the moments you

grew, the goals you reached, and even the lessons

that came from what didn’t go as planned. Last year,

we also lost a close relative, and it reminded me

how important it is to make time and space for the

people we love. Life moves quickly, but connection

is what truly anchors us.

In a world that often rushes us, stillness has a quiet

wisdom. When we slow the breath - deep, gentle,

steady - we see more clearly and reconnect with

what matters: relationships, wellbeing, and the

simple joy of being present.

I am devoted to helping people and

am excited to launch Community

like to try Qi Gong, Lee Holden has

kindly shared some free sessions.

So breathe deeply.

Slow down. Be here, now.

With love,

Beaconsfield lights switch-on!

We had a great turnout on Friday 28th

Last year’s Mayor, Cllr Paul Mason, had

Anyone can belong as long as they are willing to

We support the local Guiding District and have our

own monthly meetings, at Gerrards Cross Guide

As part of our programme we support a different

charity each year. For 2025 this was the residents of

the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. Medical advances

mean more and more people with epilepsy have

been enabled to live independently but those with

severe epilepsy do not always respond to current

options. For the Epilepsy Society research is

ongoing while the centre at Chalfont provides

specialist residential care for approximately 90

adults who, in addition to their epilepsy, often have

associated and additional complications.

Our main fund raiser was a Purple Party (everyone

wore something purple, the colour of epilepsy) and

we recently presented £1,420 to be spent on “treats”

for the residents, events including a pantomime

performed at the Centre by a professional group.

FINANCIAL ADVICE

Now is a good time to check your lasting

power of attorney

The New Year is a natural moment

to look at the plans we rely on to

safeguard our family.

A lasting power of attorney (LPA) gives

someone you trust the authority to make

decisions if you cannot, but it only works

if the people named in it can act on your

behalf when needed.

Many LPAs are set up and then forgotten.

If your attorney has moved, become

unwell, or can no longer act, the

document may need a simple update.

Without that update, your replacement

attorneys cannot step in, even in the

case of an emergency.

A quick check now can help to prevent

delays later. Make sure your attorneys

are still willing and able, their details are

current, and your replacements know

they are named.

If anything has changed, we can guide

you through the next steps. At Leigh

Duncan, we help keep your LPA accurate

and ready so that your affairs can be

managed with confidence.

EYE NEWS

Driving with confidence

in the dark

For many drivers, the road after dark

can be a challenge. Headlights from

oncoming traffic, glare from wet roads,

and poor visibility can turn even familiar

routes into stressful experiences.

That’s where lenses like EnRoute Pro could help.

These driving lenses are designed specifically

to reduce glare, enhance contrast, and sharpen

visual clarity on the road.

Developed with advanced glare-reducing filters

and optimised contrast enhancement, EnRoute Pro

lenses target one of the most common complaints

among drivers: the blinding effect of high-intensity

headlights. By minimising scattered light and

improving contrast sensitivity, these lenses can help

drivers to detect obstacles, pedestrians, and traffic

signs more quickly and clearly.

EnRoute Pro were originally designed to aid the

visual demands of commercial and long-distance

drivers, but they can also aid drivers who find

driving at night difficult because of headlight

glare. The lenses are available in both single

vision and progressive designs, allowing for clear

and comfortable vision at all distances.

The technology used in EnRoute Pro lenses was

designed with an aim to reduce visual fatigue,

improve reaction time, and ultimately, ensure

safer roads.

Solutions like EnRoute Pro lenses serve as a

reminder that innovation in optics can have

real-world impact - not just in how we see, but

in how safely we move through the world.

What’s been happening at

Beaconsfield Town Council?

The Town Council has been undertaking

much work on the many planning

applications and appeals affecting our

town and the land around it and will be

taking part in the Beeches Park appeal in

our capacity as a Statutory Consultee.

Although legislation is making things much

harder with yet more changes introduced in

December to the National Planning Policy

Framework (NPPF), the Town Council remain

committed to protecting Beaconsfield and our

precious green belt in the interests of all our

residents.

Our Remembrance Day event on Sunday 9th

November was attended by a record sized

crowd. We were proud to organise this event

with all the churches. It was attended by our

MP Joy Morrisey, cadets from Army, Air Force

and Police and all the community groups in the

town, coming together to lay wreaths and show

their respect in the act of Remembrance.

Our wonderful Brass Band of volunteers was led

by Ben Qureshi, and we fondly remembered

Trevor Austin 1931-2025 of Rosehill Instruments,

who had started this and turned it into what

is now a tradition in Beaconsfield. The service

was broadcast live by Wycombe Sound and you

can listen again on their website.

On 23.11.25, the Civic Service

was held at St Mary’s and

All Saints Church.

This was hosted by our Mayor Cllr Anita

Cranmer and was attended by Countess

dignitaries from around the county, joining

together to acknowledge the importance and

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Simple health:

mastering the art

of wellbeing

Words by James Griffiths

Director of Wellbeing at the Crazy Bear

Good health, in its most fundamental

sense, is a state of being without illness or

injury, and experts insist that individuals

must prioritise this objective. To simplify

the pursuit, three essential numbers

must be optimised: blood pressure,

waist-to-hip ratio, and heart rate recovery.

Keeping all three in the “green” zone

offers a substantial reduction in the risk

of serious illness.

Achieving lasting wellbeing requires consistent

daily investment in behaviour. Professionals advise

minimising the four least healthy behaviours -

physical inactivity, smoking, excessive alcohol,

and poor nutrition. Conversely, one must regularly

invest in the four most healthy behaviours: physical

activity, good nutrition, quality sleep, and nurturing

a strong community. These practices culminate

in the four daily pillars of health: Be Active, Be

Outside in nature, Be Together, and Be Passionate.

The true trick to

sustaining optimal

health lies

not in achieving

perfection, but in

understanding

behaviour change.

An individual’s health

is an exact mirror

of their lifestyle; the

choices and routines

they practice dictate

how they feel and

look. Experts argue

that mastering

health is largely a

matter of mastering

one’s behaviour in

a modern environment that often makes unhealthy

choices readily accessible. The root cause of poor

health is invariably lifestyle, not a lack of specific

supplements.

The path to change is often fraught with barriers.

The social barrier arises when new behaviours

negatively impact one’s social status. The S.C.A.R.F.

framework - Status, Certainty, Autonomy,

Relatedness, and Fairness - helps people assess

and overcome this hurdle. The behavioural barrier

often involves habitual practices, such as seeking

“altered reality” through unhelpful rituals (like

drinking to de-stress), which must be replaced

with more positive habits. Procrastination is also

common, captured by the D.U.S.T. acronym:

when a task is too Difficult, misunderstood,

generates fear, or is too Tedious. In all cases, the

solution is consistent: asking for help to reframe

the challenge and gain necessary support.

Ultimately, consistent small wins, celebrated and

stacked high, will always surpass inconsistent

major changes on the journey to robust

wellbeing.

Old Town

Beaconsfield Old Town will soon unveil

a vibrant new cultural attraction - a

Mosaic Trail celebrating local history,

creativity, and community spirit. Launching

in February 2026, the trail links three

brand-new community-created artworks

with the much-loved mosaics already

decorating the Old Town’s historic streets.

A celebration of community craftsmanship

At its heart are three new mosaics shaped by

extensive community involvement and guided

by artists Maud Milton and Melanie Mosaics. A

key highlight is Maud Milton’s Tree of Life, installed

at the Fitzwilliams Centre. Symbolic across many

faiths, it represents shared journeys and the

interconnectedness of the community. Milton’s

process invites people to create patterned or

worded clay tiles which are then glazed and built

into the final piece. More than 250 contributors -

from St Mary’s Primary School, St Mary’s Church,

the toddler group, and local families - took part in

workshops, weaving their stories into this uplifting

new artwork.

Another highlight is the Peacock Butterfly

mosaic, created by Beaconsfield’s entire

Girlguiding community - from Rainbows and

Brownies to Guides, Rangers, and leaders. Led

by local artist Melanie Mosaics, the piece sparkles

with traditional tile-and-glass detail and is now

displayed on the Guide Hut overlooking Malthouse

Square. The butterfly design also encourages

visitors to explore Holtspur Nature Reserve, home

to half of England’s recorded butterfly species.

The third new mosaic, The Stagecoach, is

currently being created by Maud Milton.

Celebrating Beaconsfield’s heritage as a major

coaching stop in the 1700s and 1800s - when up

to 25 coaches passed through daily - the artwork

reflects the Old Town’s rich travel history, still visible

in its arched coaching entrances. The mosaic will

be installed at 51 London End, formerly The Bull

Inn. Contributors include Bucks Vision, a local group

supporting residents who are blind or

visually impaired.

Honouring history along the way

The trail also features two Old Town landmarks:

the Beaconsfield War Memorial and the newly

mounted Town Crier Plaque on the Reading Room.

Long-serving Town Crier Richard “Dick” Smith,

appointed in 1969, decorated tiles for the project

and helped launch the New Town trail. His stories

of the seventeenth-century highwayman Claude

Duval also helped inspire the Stagecoach mosaic

theme.

Rediscovering existing mosaics

The route highlights Beaconsfield’s existing

mosaics, including two striking pebble designs by

internationally renowned artist Maggy Howarth.

Depicting horses and celebrating the town’s

coaching heritage, they sit outside the Saracens

Head and Pizza Express and form an important

historical thread within the trail.

A boost for local tourism and walkability

Organisers hope the trail will encourage residents

and visitors to explore the Old Town on foot,

supporting local shops, cafés, and heritage spots.

Clear signage, printed maps, and digital guides

will help visitors follow the route and uncover each

artwork’s story.

Blending history, craftsmanship, and community

creativity, the Beaconsfield Mosaic Trail is set

to brighten the Old Town in 2026 - reflecting

its past while celebrating the people shaping

it today. For more information go to:

The Beaconsfield

Christmas shoe

box appeal for the

elderly

Christmas time can be a difficult time of

year especially for the elderly, from losing

loved ones, maybe being less mobile and

active to feeling forgotten.

This year local resident Jeannette Buckle decided

that she wanted to do something for the elderly in

Beaconsfield, particularly those living alone. So she

launched a shoe box appeal just for the elderly.

Jeannette & Cllr Sandie Saunders at Waitrose

With various initiatives and donations of shoe

boxes, she has managed to collect a staggering

amount over 200 filled Christmas shoe boxes,

brimming with goodwill and Christmas cheer.

These have been delivered directly to the elderly

or shared out at the various senior citizens lunch

clubs, including the Christmas Day lunch, held at

St Teresa’s Parish Centre.

Rouse Accountants donations

Her message touched the hearts and minds of

local people and businesses alike.

Morse Funerals box donations

Jeannette says ‘I am delighted that this Appeal has

resonated with local people and businesses. I am so

proud what Beaconsfield collectively has achieved

for the elderly this Christmas’.

Hearthfelt thanks to all local residents and

businesses who have supported and donated.

Special thanks to Ashington Page,

Rouse Accountants, Morse Funeral Services,

Thirst4Coffee, WeDoMobility, Waitrose and

Bekonscot Model Village.

Walking in Gratitude

On Christmas Day 2013, Chalfont

St Peter resident Paul’s wife - a

dedicated carer - went into work to

support residents and colleagues.

Partway through her shift, she began

to feel unwell, and the manager

contacted Paul to take her home.

When Paul arrived, he found his wife

sitting in the manager’s office with her

head lowered. As she looked up, she

suddenly collapsed.

Her heart had stopped. Thanks to the swift

and skilled actions of the care home staff

and paramedics, her pulse was brought

back.

She was rushed to Harefield Hospital,

where she received emergency treatment

in the catheter lab before being placed in

an induced coma for seven days. When

she finally woke, her recovery continued

on the ward - a journey that marked the

beginning of a long and emotional road

back to health.

Years later, Paul is now taking on a virtual

fitness challenge to raise funds for a

charity that played a vital role in saving

his wife’s life. He will be virtually walking

and running the iconic Route 66 - from E.

Adams Street in Chicago to Santa Monica

Pier in California - a total of 2,278 miles.

Please support him as he

gives back to those who

gave him so much.
