Brunch or Lunch?
The top spots for classic American brunch
or traditional Italian lunch
Italians have welcomed the
popular tradition of brunch with
open arms, and Rome has several
brunch spots that do the classic
American brunch justice. But
here’s the thing, Italians also have
an enduring history of the long
lunch, “Sunday lunch” to be exact,
a cultural institution, a weekly
tradition, a time to be with family
and friends.
Lucky for you, these two concepts
live beside one another in perfect
harmony - so whether you miss
bacon and eggs, or you want to
dive into the Italian lifestyle and
enjoy the unlimited-choice of an
Italian-style lunch, you can have
the best of both worlds in Rome.
Are you looking for a gourmet experience
that’s also different from the usual for your
weekend brunch? Then the charming terrace
of Masa, overlooking Santa Maria Maggiore,
is the perfect place for you. Here you’ll find
Middle Eastern fusion cuisine with a tasting
menu of 5 meze, plus your choice of either a
main course or a second course selected by
the chef. Weather is not an issue, as Masa
Rooftop adapts to the season with an igloo.
Mae is a small manifesto of slow brunch:
a place for sharing, connection, and calm,
feel-good food. Expect homemade baked
goods (Swedish bullar, cinnamon rolls,
French toast, cakes, leavened pastries) plus
classics like yogurt bowls, pancakes, eggs
Benedict, and stuffed bagels. And best of all:
brunch here isn’t just for Sundays. it’s a daily
ritual, meant to be enjoyed with zero rush.

DINE TO SHINE:
13 RESTAURANTS TO TRY ROME IN 2026
Rome’s dining scene keeps moving in 2026, with new openings that blend tradition and
innovation, local roots and international influences, casual energy and polished settings. From
the historic centre to emerging neighbourhoods, these addresses capture the capital’s culinary
buzz: 13 different places to explore, with flavours worth discovering, spaces worth lingering in,
and menus that reflect a city constantly in dialogue with global food trends. Below, a curated,
narrative guide to the restaurants, bistros and pizzerias to have on your radar this year.

TRIBUNA CAMPITELLI
Via della Tribuna di Campitelli, 18 (Ghetto Ebraico)
tribunacampitelli.com
Set inside a 16th-century palazzo just steps from Piazza
d’Aracoeli, Tribuna Campitelli has quickly become one of the
most talked-about openings of 2025–2026. The concept goes
beyond a standard restaurant: think of it as a dining lounge, with
a strong wine list, a carefully designed cocktail bar, intimate rooms
and an outdoor terrace overlooking the square. Chefs Francesco
Brandini and Roberto Bonifazi build seasonal menus that pair modern
technique with solid Roman–Mediterranean foundations, focusing on
quality ingredients and clean execution.
Gnocco is a central Rome address that leans into Italian tradition
with a playful, “pop” twist under chef Davide Cianetti. The
spirit is convivial and unfussy, but the cooking is solid: seasonal
ingredients, familiar flavours, and a menu that nods to the Roman
table. As the name suggests, gnocco takes the spotlight—fried
gnocco, the classic potato version, and the Roman-style semolina
variation. A reliable choice for honest Italian plates in a simple, well-kept
setting with good value for money.

DINE TO SHINE: 13 RESTAURANTS TO TRY ROME IN 2026
GNOCCO - OSTERIA ALLA SCROFA
Via della Scrofa, 100 (Piazza Navona)
gnoccoroma.it
Nobu brings its international Japanese-fusion signature to Via Veneto,
with subtle Mediterranean touches and a polished, high-impact setting.
Expect top-tier sushi, crowd-pleasers like Black Cod Miso, and a
cocktail program that matches the brand’s mood. It remains a go-to
for special occasions and trend-led nights out, and a familiar name for
international visitors looking for contemporary Japanese dining at a high
level.
ISOTTA
Via Carlo Livi, 12-16 (Torrevecchia)
isottatrattoria.it
In Torrevecchia, Isotta is a neighbourhood trattoria with
a contemporary lens on Roman cooking. Warm and
straightforward—wooden tables, open kitchen, a rustic
touch—it keeps the offer focused and seasonal. Under the
guidance of Michelin-starred chef Davide Puleio, the kitchen
balances memory and modernity, with careful sourcing and
cooking methods designed to let flavours speak. An easygoing spot
for dinner with friends or a relaxed date, with simple, functional service.
NOMOS ANTE
Via di S. Paolo alla Regola, 3 (Regola)
nomosante.plateform.app
Nomos Ante, the fine-dining restaurant on the ground floor
of the Nomos Hotel, has quickly become one of Rome’s most
interesting new tables of 2025–2026. Chef Giulio Luigi Zoli
delivers precise, personal cooking that blends Italian roots with
global references, with a strong focus on balance and ingredient
quality. The menu is offered through tasting paths, while
the HENRYTIMI-designed interiors set a pared-back, almost
contemplative atmosphere.

STECCA
Viale Guglielmo Massaia, 28 (Garbatella)
steccaroma.it
Opened in Garbatella in autumn 2025 by Flavio De Maio and
Abruzzo-born Franco Franciosi, Stecca is an intimate 35-seat
spot conceived as a “multisensory lab” where food, music and
conviviality meet. Not strictly Roman or Abruzzese, it focuses on
shareable plates, a constantly changing daily menu, and a wine
list built around authentic producers. Bread sits at the heart of the
concept, while light and music shape the mood, making dinner as
much about conversation as cuisine.
Mazzo lands in Rome with a hybrid restaurant–wine bar format, built
around bottles and dishes meant for the table to share. Chefs and
owners Francesca Barreca and Marco Baccanelli frame the experience
as convivial and flexible: a curated selection of labels paired with
a menu that moves between tradition and more creative ideas. A
strong pick for long aperitivi, informal dinners, or evenings centred on
discovering interesting Italian wines in a youthful, lively setting.
BAP
Via Raffaele Cadorna, 5 (Sallustiano)
baproma.com
Bap is a popular, informal address with a young, dynamic
approach to street-food-style dishes and bistro comfort. Set in
a high-traffic area, it works for quick breaks, light lunches or
casual dinners, with a strong focus on ingredient quality and
good value. It’s also a dependable breakfast stop, thanks to its
baked goods, cakes and carefully prepared hot drinks.
ORIENT EXPRESS LA MINERVA – GIGI RIGOLATTO
Piazza della Minerva, 69 (Pantheon)
gigi-restaurant.com/rome
In Piazza della Minerva, Gigi Rigolatto sits between restaurant and
bar, offering Italian and European-inspired dishes reinterpreted with
contemporary techniques. The vibe is lively, the menu familiar but
updated, an easy fit for a business lunch or an informal dinner while
exploring the Pantheon area.
SANTOPALATO
Via Gallia, 28 (San Giovanni)
santopalatoroma.it
A staple name in San Giovanni’s food scene, SantoPalato revisits
Roman classics with a modern edge, aiming for a balance
between tradition and contemporary flair. The carbonara remains
the headline act, alongside a roster of reworked favourites
supported by a wine list designed to complete the experience. New
daily specials on the blackboard keep regulars—and newcomers—
coming back.
CASA MALGARINI
Via della Giustiniana, 670b (La Giustiniana)
casamalgarini.it
Casa Malgarini offers a more intimate, high-quality experience outside
the tourist centre. Chef and owner Leonardo Malgarini puts ingredient
quality first, shaping month-by-month menus that lean increasingly
vegetable-forward without losing balance. Service is warm and
attentive, and the garden adds a distinctive note—perfect for slow
dinners or Sunday lunches with time to spare.

landed in Rome in 2016 and has been an
“in crowd” favourite ever since. Carefully
mixed cocktails, a glamorous vibe and views
that stretch out over Trinità dei Monti make
it a strong choice for aperitivo or dinner—
especially because you’re not relying on
summer weather to enjoy it. In winter, the
best approach is to treat it as a “hybrid
rooftop”: enjoy the terrace moment when
it’s comfortable, then settle into the warmer
indoor spaces and let the night unfold
between cocktails and sharing plates.

ROME’S BEST WINTER ROOFTOPS
Terrazza Les Etoiles
@ Hotel Atlante Star
Via dei Bastioni, 1 (Prati)
Rooftop Cocktail Bar: 5.00pm – 1am
Restaurant: 7.30pm – 10.30pm;
12.30pm – 3pm (lunch only weekends)
Les Etoiles offers a truly spectacular 360°
panoramic view of Rome, stretching across
terracotta rooftops and the city’s most iconic
monuments—especially St. Peter’s Basilica,
whose facade and dome look unbelievably
close from here. Spread across the top
floors of the Atlante Star Hotel, Les Etoiles is
made up of three distinct spaces: a refined
indoor restaurant (your best winter ally), a
roof garden, and a panoramic rooftop bar. In
colder months, plan your visit around golden
hour, then settle inside for dinner while
keeping the skyline as your backdrop—
stepping outside briefly for photos whenever
the weather cooperates. At aperitivo time,
a fixed-price formula is available for €45,
including a drink (cocktail or wine) and a
selection of finger foods.
Gigi Rigolatto
@ Orient Express La
Minerva
Piazza della Minerva, 69 (Pantheon)
Restaurant: 12pm – 2:30pm, 5pm –
7pm, 7pm – 10:30pm
Bar: 12pm – 11:30pm
Gigi Rigolatto has recently made its debut
in Rome, bringing its “La Vita alla Grande”
philosophy to the exclusive rooftop of
Orient Express La Minerva. One of the
most stunning rooftops in the city, it frames
the Pantheon and the historic centre in a
way that feels almost unreal. The design
blends retro glamour with modern elegance,
perfectly capturing the spirit of La Dolce
Vita. Winter tip: opt for lunch or late
afternoon if you want softer light and milder
temperatures; for evenings, pair the terrace
moment with a more sheltered table and
linger over cocktails in a warm, cinematic
setting.
Tiziano Terrace Rooftop &
Cocktail Bar
@ Monti Palace Hotel
Via Cavour, 185 (Monti)
Opening Times: 5pm – 11pm
Located in the Monti neighbourhood on the
top floor of the Monti Palace Hotel, Tiziano
Terrace is a stylish go-to with tall windows,
an impressive bar and a relaxed seating
area. It’s a great pick for both summer and
winter months: when it’s chilly, the indoor
lounge behind those big windows becomes
the sweet spot—cozy, social, and still
very “rooftop” thanks to the views and the
atmosphere. On milder winter nights you
can also enjoy the outdoor corner for a quick
toast under the Roman sky.
Masa Rooftop
Via di S. Maria Maggiore, 143 (Monti)
Opening Times: 8am – 1am
Hotel Major’s rooftop restaurant reimagines
the classic Italian aperitivo experience with
a Middle Eastern infusion. Masa embraces
conviviality as its principle: guests embark
on a culinary adventure through the chef’s
selection of small bites, perfect for sharing.
In winter, it stays a strong option thanks to a
more protected, cold-season set-up—think
heated corners and sheltered seating—so
you can keep the rooftop vibe without
freezing. If you’re looking for a romantic spot
to dazzle your date or craving an evening of
refined Oriental finger food, Masa delivers a
memorable night all year round.

outdoor space and a heated indoor area,
it’s ideal for lunch or aperitivo even in the
coldest months. Expect simple, well-crafted
dishes (tartare, salads, pinsa, couscous)
and classic or signature cocktails. Winter
tip: go earlier for sunset (it arrives sooner),
enjoy a quick outdoor “view moment,” then
settle into the heated area for a long, cozy
aperitivo. Flexible corners of the terrace
can be reserved for private events, and
themed evenings with food, music and live
entertainment keep the mood lively in every

SANTA MARIA DELLA VITTORIA
Built between 1608 and 1620, the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria is an example of the
richest Baroque decoration.
Head to the Cornaro Chapel in the far left corner to see Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s masterpiece,
the recently restored “Ecstasy of Saint Teresa”, one of the most famous Baroque sculptures. It
depicts in white marble the climactic moment in which a swooning nun, pierced by the arrow
of God’s love, achieves spiritual union with Christ. Sculpted members of the Cornaro family
overlook the dramatic and highly sensual scene from theater-like boxes. Needless to say, this
provocative sculpture has sparked controversy for centuries.
The church has seen a surge in tourism thanks to the widespread popularity of author Dan
Brown’s novel Angels and Demons, which features the building.
Step inside and you’re greeted by an immersive Baroque “total artwork”: polychrome marbles,
gilded stuccoes, swirling angels and trophies cover every surface, drawing your eye down the
single nave toward the high altar. Light is part of the design here—Bernini and the decorators
use it almost like a stage spotlight to heighten emotion.
The church has a single nave with side chapels, each richly decorated with colored marbles
and stucco reliefs. The ceiling fresco celebrates the Virgin’s victory, echoing the church’s
dedication (“della Vittoria”), while the main altar glitters with bronze and gold details. Don’t
rush the side chapels: you’ll find fine altarpieces, playful putti, and a wealth of decorative
motifs that reward close looking.

Il Marchese unites the best of two worlds: a bar with
elegant French salon accents and pompous chandeliers,
and a restaurant with the coziness of a Roman trattoria.
But it’s not just the décor that’s impressive. When you
walk into Il Marchese you step inside Europe’s first Amaro
bar with more than 500 different Amaro labels.
During the recent G20 in Rome, Il Marchese had two
special customers: the American First Lady Jill Biden
and the French Première Dame Brigitte Macron. The two
ladies said they were “delighted with the lovely welcome”,
complimenting the staff and the quality of the products.
ll Marchese takes its name from the Marchese del Grillo,
a symbol of Rome’s inimitable spirit– a true gentleman,
but always inclined to irony, a lover of tradition, but also
appreciated by those who come from different cultures.
Here, with Chef Daniele Roppo, you’re sure to have a
fantastic dining experience. The culinary philosophy has strong Roman roots and is inspired
by traditional recipes that are lightened according to a contemporary taste, also offering
vegetarian dishes. Quality is always a priority. Ingredients are purchased from local producers.
The amaro and cocktail bar at Il Marchese pays tribute to the elegance of 19th-century
French aristocracy, with precious stuccoes, wallpapers, and velvets. The cocktails here are
perfect for an after-dinner drink or as an aperitif. Each signature drink is crafted with premium
ingredients expertly mixed. Leading the cocktail bar is Fabrizio Valeriani, a bartender with
extensive experience.

isottatrattoria
In the heart of Torrevecchia, a historic and authentic
Roman neighborhood, Isotta | Trattoria Cortese has
recently opened its doors, a Roman trattoria with a
modern touch and the old-school charm of true courtesy.
Isotta was born from the vision of two partners and
friends: Michelin-starred chef Davide Puleio, already
owner of the renowned Pulejo Ristorante on Via dei
Gracchi, and Matteo D’Anzi, a hospitality expert and
designer of high-end gastronomic spaces.
The name “Isotta” is a tribute to Matteo D’Anzi’s
grandmother — a symbol of home, warmth, and family.
This emotional connection is reflected in the entire
concept of the restaurant: a place where tradition finds
its contemporary space, and timeless elegance meets
modern simplicity, inspired by the 1960s and 70s, with a focus on design and modern
culinary techniques.
The kitchen at Isotta is led by Chef Saverio Pasquali. Signature dishes include homages to
Roman tradition, such as fettuccine with chicken giblets and the iconic savory bignè, as well
as reimagined classics like tomato rice and cannelloni with wild greens.
With extensive experience in restaurant interiors, Matteo D’Anzi personally oversaw the design
of the space. Details like the kitchen’s light blue tiles, traditional marble chip flooring, and
vintage chandeliers create an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and contemporary.
With 40 seats inside and just as many outdoors, the trattoria is ready to welcome families,
young people, and tourists in search of authenticity and conviviality.

Nestled within the evocative walls of Rome lies a
sparkling jewel that has transformed the city’s nightlife:
the Conventicola degli Ultramoderni. The brainchild of the
visionary duo Mirkaccio and Madame De Freitas, this venue
is far more than a mere nightclub — it is a stage where
vaudeville meets variété, where café chantant intertwines
with cabaret, and where each evening becomes a timeless
performance. At the Conventicola, aficionados of black-andwhite
cinema, vintage allure, and songs from bygone eras
will discover their sanctuary. Every night, a dozen diverse
artists — singers, comedians, musicians, and burlesque
performers — take turns gracing the stage in a whirlwind of
elegance, wit, and theatrical flair.
Every element — from the cabaret-inspired décor to the
glimmering cushions — is meticulously curated to enchant. Yet beyond the sparkle lies an
unwavering dedication to the authenticity of the performing arts. At the Conventicola, nothing
is contrived; the talent is raw, profound, and timeless. Mirko, who rejects the term “vintage” as
a fleeting trend, pursues a deeper, enduring standard of artistic excellence.
While the spotlight is rightfully on the stage, the bar contributes with equal grace. Crafted in
homage to the great tradition of classic cocktail culture, the drinks are prepared with precision
and elegance. Every sip evokes a bygone glamour, transporting guests further into the
immersive experience. If you are seeking an experience beyond the ordinary — a plunge into
enchantment, sensuality, and the sheer beauty of live performance — the Conventicola degli

of Post-Impressionism
Cézanne and Van Gogh,
the forerunners of the

and German-speaking
innovators such
as Beckmann and
Kokoschka.
The exhibition
The exhibition brings together masterpieces exceptionally on loan from the Detroit Institute of
Arts, one of the leading museum institutions in the United States, and presents the interplay of
visions, experimentation, and revolutions that shaped the evolution of European art between the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Through fifty-two paintings, the show recounts the most
significant transformations that helped redefine the relationship between reality and abstraction,
light and color, nature and the city in modern European painting.Pierre Auguste Renoir, Donna in
poltrona, 1874, Detroit Institute of Arts, Bequest of Mrs. Allan Shelden III, 1985.24
The exhibition unfolds in four sections, documenting the decisive transformations that contributed
to the development of modern European painting, from the origins of French Impressionism to
the German avant-garde.
Reality, Modern Life, and Light
The opening section traces the shift from academic tradition to Realism and Impressionism, as
artists began painting everyday life and natural light outdoors. Works by Courbet, Degas and
Renoir capture modern scenes with quick brushwork and luminous color, alongside paintings by
Cézanne, Pissarro, Sisley and Max Liebermann.
After Impressionism
From 1886 onward, painting becomes more personal and experimental. Cézanne searches for
structure and geometry, while Van Gogh pushes color and brushwork to express emotion. Key
works include Cézanne’s Mont Sainte-Victoire and Van Gogh’s still lifes and landscapes, with
pieces by Bonnard, Denis and Redon.
Fauves, Cubism and the École de Paris
Early 20th-century Paris takes center stage, with major works by Picasso and Matisse charting
new directions from Cubism to bold, modern color. The section also features artists such as Juan
Gris, Modigliani, Soutine and María Blanchard.
The German Avant-Garde
The final section focuses on German Expressionism and abstraction, from Kandinsky to artists
linked to Die Brücke and Der Blaue Reiter. Postwar works by Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff and
Beckmann convey the era’s tension, closing with the emotional intensity of Nolde and Kokoschka.

PITTI IMMAGINE UOMO, 109: MOTION
FLORENCE
The Pitti Immagine Shows Are Back in Florence
Pitti Immagine Uomo, 109: Motion
p
Vishwa Parmar
Florence in January has its own rhythm.
The crowds thin out, the cold settles in, and
suddenly the Fortezza da Basso becomes the
city’s centre of gravity for anyone who cares
about menswear. Pitti Immagine Uomo 109
returns from 13 to 16 January 2026, and this
time it feels less like a routine appointment
and more like a statement. The theme is
“MOTION” — and it fits, because nothing at
Pitti ever truly stands still.
This edition brings over 700 brands to
Florence for the Fall/Winter 2026–2027
collections, with a strong international
presence (around 44%). For four days,
Florence turns into a temporary capital of
menswear: buyers, press, creatives, and
insiders moving through the city as if the
streets themselves were part of the show.
The guest designers also speak directly to the
theme. Hed Mayner and Soshiotsuki headline
Pitti Uomo 109 with two very different visions
of what “movement” can mean in menswear.
Mayner’s signature volumes and precise
construction feel made for modern life —
pieces that travel well, shift shape, and still
look intentional. Soshiotsuki brings a sharper
play between tailoring, structure, and cultural
references: clothes that make you stop, look
twice, and rethink what you thought you were
seeing.

PITTI IMMAGINE UOMO, 109: MOTION
ONLINE MEDICAL
CONSULTATION
And then there’s the quieter plot twist: HiBeauty, the new area dedicated to high-end perfumery,
advanced skincare, grooming, and lifestyle. It reflects a bigger change in menswear culture —
because style isn’t only about clothing anymore. It’s an ecosystem: what you wear, what you
smell like, how you take care of yourself, and the objects you choose to live with. If any city
makes sense for introducing this shift, it’s Florence — with its deep craft tradition and its natural
talent for turning “detail” into “identity.”
For regulars and first-timers alike, Pitti remains one of the best ways to see what will land
on the streets — and in stores — months later. With MOTION as the lens, expect more
hybrid pieces: technical materials meeting classic tailoring, sleek sportswear influences, and
wardrobes designed for a world that changes quickly and travels even faster. The international
mix of exhibitors only amplifies that conversation, turning an Italian institution into a truly global
crossroads.
Florence, meanwhile, plays the perfect co-host. Cafés fill up with buyers comparing notes,
the area around the Fortezza becomes its own runway, and booking a table anywhere decent
suddenly turns into a competitive sport. Pitti week always shifts the city’s mood — but January
2026 looks set to bring a sharper, more energetic version of that familiar buzz.
If you’ll be in Florence mid-January — or even if you just like tracking where menswear is
heading — Pitti Uomo 109 is one to watch. The fair calls it MOTION. Florence calls it business as
usual. But the collections will be the part that tells the real story.
