from the editor

Our global village tours...

As we turn the page on 2025, I find myself reflecting on

a year that tested the resilience and global reach of our

industry like never before. It was a tough year—one filled with

fluctuating markets, shifting supply chains, and persistent

geopolitical challenges. Yet, despite all odds, it was also one

of the most successful chapters in our magazine’s history.

Throughout 2025, our team traveled tirelessly across

continents, filling every month of our calendar with major

international events. At each stop—from bustling trade

fairs to specialized B2B gatherings—we proudly distributed

our special editions complimentary to thousands of

industry professionals. These encounters allowed us to

connect directly with manufacturers, designers, buyers, and

innovators who continue to transform the global home textile

landscape. Your enthusiasm and feedback at these events

have been a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be even more dynamic—

and even busier. We are entering the new year with an

expanded international program that spans every corner of

the world. As always, we begin our journey at Heimtextil

Frankfurt, the largest and most influential fair in the global

home and contract textiles sector. From there, each of the

twelve months will take us from the Americas to China, from

the Russian Federation to the MENA region, pursuing stories,

trends, innovations, and opportunities that matter to you.

Our mission remains unchanged: to be the most trusted

guide in the global home textile market, delivering insights,

showcasing excellence, and strengthening the international

connections that help our industry grow.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, let’s

make 2026 a year of bold ideas, new partnerships, and

continued success.

CIFF Guangzhou

leading

the furniture and

interior design

industry

through global

transformation

Facing mounting global economic pressures and

complex trade conditions, the furniture industry

has increasingly turned to CIFF Guangzhou as

its strategic anchor. The fair’s unique ability to

build consensus, pool cross-sector resources,

and deliver world-class exhibition services has

cemented its position as the industry’s premier

platform—where new ideas take shape and vital

business connections flourish.

The remarkable success of CIFF Guangzhou

2025 underscores this leadership. Spanning

850,000 square meters, the event hosted 4,900

exhibitors and attracted 363,000 professional

visitors from 187 countries, including 56,794

international attendees—a 10.91% year-on-year

increase. These results not only stabilized global

trade activity but also reinvigorated market

confidence and set new performance benchmarks

for the global furniture exhibition landscape.

Amid rapidly shifting global

trends and evolving market forces,

the 57th China International

Furniture Fair (Guangzhou)

stands out as a pivotal hub for

innovation, collaboration, and

growth in the global furniture and

interior design sectors. Scheduled

for March 18–21 and March 28–

31, 2026, CIFF Guangzhou 2026

will once again bring together the

world’s leading furniture brands,

designers, and manufacturers to

navigate emerging challenges and

define the industry’s future.

As the furniture ecosystem undergoes profound

transformation, CIFF Guangzhou 2026 aims

to elevate its role even further. Companies are

embracing integrated export-to-domestic and

domestic-to-export strategies, while the traditional

lines between B2B and B2C continue to blur.

Meanwhile, international buyers—navigating

shifting U.S. tariff policies and stringent European

environmental regulations—are increasingly turning

their attention to China as a key sourcing destination.

On the consumer side, demand is rapidly

diversifying. The growing interest in smart

homes, green living, age-friendly spaces,

and pet-friendly environments reflects a new

generation of lifestyles driven by sustainability and

technology. CIFF Guangzhou 2026 will act as

the convergence point for these emerging trends,

offering an integrated online-offline experience

that showcases how design, innovation, and global

collaboration are reshaping the future of living.

32 OVERVIEW

Many Happy Returns!

Messe Frankfurt Istanbul

celebrates silver anniversary!

Every year, Messe Frankfurt Istanbul has been contributing to Türkiye’s

exports by increasing the participation of Turkish companies in more

than 350 fairs and events organised worldwide, and this year proudly

celebrates its 25th anniversary since beginning operations in 2000.

With a history of around 800 years, Messe

Frankfurt is one of the world’s oldest trade fair

organisers and, as a company that owns its own

exhibition grounds, it is also the largest organiser

of trade fairs, congresses and events in the world.

Over the past 25 years;

• More than 3,500 Turkish companies have exhibit

in at least one international Messe Frankfurt fair

• Over 60,000 Turkish visitors have visited at least

one trade fair abroad

• Hundreds of national participation projects have

been realised in cooperation with Türkiye’s leading

exporters’ associations, chambers and trade bodies

• Texworld Istanbul was organised between 2014

and 2016

• Automechanika Istanbul has been organised

since 2001

• At ISH Frankfurt 2017, Türkiye was selected as

the partner country

• Motobike Istanbul has been organised since 2015

• In 1 year, a total of 659 Turkish companies took

part in Frankfurt fairs (2019)

• In one year, Turkish exhibitors covered 44,645

m² of exhibition space in Frankfurt (2019)

• At Heimtextil Frankfurt, more than 300 Turkish

exhibitors represented Türkiye as one of the

leading participating nations

The social, economic and ecological aspects

of sustainability are core elements of Messe

Frankfurt’s corporate philosophy, reflected in all

its global activities. In addition to its worldwide

Tayfun Yardım, Managing Director

of Messe Frankfurt Istanbul

These figures stand not only as milestones for

the exhibition industry but also as important

contributions to Türkiye’s various business

sectors and its export growth.

While successfully organising Automechanika

Istanbul and Motobike Istanbul for many years,

Messe Frankfurt Istanbul also launched the first

edition of Light + Intelligent Building Istanbul

last year, continuing its mission to connect

Turkish companies with global trade fairs through

marketing and sales activities. With the first edition

of Eurobike Istanbul to be held next year, the

company aims to carry this success even further.

operations, Messe Frankfurt Istanbul organises

its fairs in İstanbul with full consideration for

environmental factors. Sustainability has long

been a fundamental corporate policy of Messe

Frankfurt and remains a key reason behind its

enduring success. As of 2024, the company

continues to advance its efforts towards

achieving carbon-neutral events.

Tayfun Yardım, Managing Director

of Messe Frankfurt Istanbul:

“For 25 years, we have been successfully

managing Messe Frankfurt’s operations in

Türkiye. The country has great potential in

sectors such as automotive, textiles, construction

and food. The ambition of local manufacturers

to enter new markets and increase exports is

one of our biggest motivations.

In fact, the cooperation between Messe Frankfurt

and many of Türkiye’s well-established companies

dates back long before our Istanbul office was

founded. When we began operations in the early

2000s, we served as a bridge between local

producers and international markets, strengthening

our ties with exhibitors over the years.

Since 2001, we have been organising

Automechanika Istanbul, one of the world’s

three largest automotive industry fairs, and since

2015, Motobike Istanbul, Türkiye’s first and only

motorcycle, bicycle and accessories fair. Last year,

we successfully held the first edition of Light +

Intelligent Building Istanbul, focusing on lighting

and building technologies. We are also excited

about the upcoming Eurobike Istanbul, which will

take place for the first time next year.

It is a great source of pride for us to support the

growth of SMEs — the backbone of Türkiye’s

economy — and to help them realise their potential.

Seeing many of our exhibitors grow over the years

to become influential players in the international

market is the clearest reflection of our efforts.”

TRENDS

The Future of Furniture

is at IIFF 2026 in Istanbul!

Global rendezvous

of the furniture industry

The International Istanbul

Furniture Fair (IIFF), one of the

leading meeting points of the global

furniture industry, will once again

bring together sector professionals

in Istanbul from January 27–31,

2026. Organized under the

coordination of the Federation of

Furniture Associations (MOSFED),

the event will take place at two

major fair centers (IFM – TÜYAP)

across a total area of 250,000

square meters, hosting 3,000

brands presenting their newest

collections. This year’s edition,

themed “Sustainability,” is

expected to attract more than

150,000 professional visitors from

over 150 countries and regions.

Recognized as one of the three most prestigious

furniture exhibitions worldwide, IIFF 2026 is set to

once again showcase the production power, design

excellence, and innovative vision of the Turkish

furniture industry on the global stage. The fair, to

be held between January 27–31, 2026, will bring

together all product groups under one roof — from

modern and modular furniture to luxury designs,

from baby, children’s, and youth room furniture to

bedding, office, hotel, and outdoor collections.

Last year, IIFF generated approximately $3

billion in business volume through meetings held

during the exhibition. With stronger content,

growing international participation, and a focus

TRENDS 39

on sustainability, IIFF 2026 aims to further

enhance the global competitiveness of the

Turkish furniture industry.

A Platform Shaping the Future of the Industry

Sharing his thoughts on the preparations, MOSFED

President Ahmet Güleç highlighted the fair’s strategic

role both economically and industrially:

“Turkish furniture is writing a global success story

today. The International Istanbul Furniture Fair (IIFF),

born in Turkey and now a globally recognized brand,

plays a major role in this achievement. Held across

all halls of Istanbul’s two major fair centers, IFM and

TÜYAP, over a total area of 250,000 square meters,

the fair creates a strategic platform for our industry

in terms of promotion, marketing, and cooperation.

Organized every January, at the start of the new year,

IIFF continues to serve as the meeting point where

Turkish furniture producers lay the groundwork for

their export operations and shape new commercial

agreements for the year ahead. Our manufacturers

meet buyers from all over the world, showcase their

collections for direct evaluation, and turn these

interactions into tangible business connections.”

TRENDS

The fair’s visitor profile includes interior

architects, decorators, chain store executives,

dealers, import and export professionals, hotel

purchasing managers, and designers. It will

present the latest collections across a wide range

of categories — including modern, modular, and

luxury furniture, as well as office, school, garden,

children’s, youth, bedding, and accessories.

With its focus on sustainability, design, and

innovation, IIFF 2026 promises participants and

visitors a unique experience, reaffirming the global

brand power of the Turkish furniture industry.

Güleç recalled that last year’s fair paved the way for

around $3 billion in business negotiations, adding:

“In 2026, we aim to take this success even

further — bringing Turkish furniture into

the future through innovation, design, and

sustainability. IIFF 2026 will be not only a hub

for furniture trade but also a center for design,

technology, and green transformation.”

The Gateway of Turkish Furniture to the World

Having become one of the most strategic

gatherings for the global furniture industry, not

just for Turkey, IIFF 2026will once again create

new opportunities for partnerships, business

connections, and exports.

Bambi Yatak, known for turning sleep into an art

form, held the launch of the project at Mahmut

İslam Bey Mansion in Kilis, under the motto “A

Woman’s Touch Shapes the Future”. The event

was hosted by Bambi Yatak General Manager

Cem Baş, and attended by Kilis Governor Tahir

Şahin, GAP Regional Development Administration

President Dr. Hasan Maral, Kilis Association for

Humanitarian and Social Development President

Pınar Sadakaoğlu, and other guests.

General Manager of Bambi Yatak, Cem Baş, said:

“As a brand striving to offer the most innovative

solutions to our customers, we are aware of our

responsibility to society. Anatolia’s thousands of

years of history have carried many cultural elements

to our present day. While some of them continue

to live on, many unfortunately face the risk of being

forgotten. Sustaining these cultural values and

traditional crafts is therefore of great importance for

cultural sustainability and economic development.

The traditional Kilis quilt, which holds a special

place in our values, is a refined craft shaped by

hand-stitching on satin fabric. One of the main

reasons for launching this project was the fact that

warmed homes for centuries, adorned wedding

dowries, and been shaped by mothers’ devotion

and masters’ labor. This project is a strong

example of solidarity, bringing together women’s

labor, youth’s eagerness to learn, and masters’

skills. Within the framework of the Traditional

Handicrafts Project, Kilis quilts were revived with

the contribution of women’s labor, master artisans’

expertise, and academic support.

The designs were modernized and adapted to today’s

needs without compromising cultural identity. One

of the most valuable aspects of this project is that it

empowers women by including them in production,

contributing to employment, household economies,

and the value of women’s labor.

Through a collaboration with Bambi, the

modernized Kilis quilts will not only gain visibility

in local markets but also reach national and

international markets. The Kilis quilt will thus

become a global brand value, promoting both our

culture and women’s labor worldwide.”

the quilting profession, with fewer masters each

year and almost no apprentices, was on the brink

of extinction. Through our project ‘With Women’s

Hands, With Their Labor,’ we aim to reinterpret

this ancient craft with modern designs to attract the

younger generations and carry it into the future.

Our goal is not only to preserve cultural heritage

but also to contribute to household economies,

strengthen women socially and economically, and

support employment in the region. The Kilis quilts,

stitched with love and care, are a testament to both

women’s craftsmanship and Kilis’ cultural identity.

From now on, Kilis’ needle will weave the future.”

“The Kilis Quilt Will Find Its Rightful Place”

Governor of Kilis, Tahir Şahin, emphasized:

“The Kilis quilt is a precious heritage that has

“Tradition and Modernity United in the

Hands of Kilis Women”

Dr. Hasan Maral, President of GAP Regional

Development Administration, said:

“Kilis quilting, registered with a geographical

indication, is an ancient craft that has carried

warmth into homes for centuries. In recent years,

however, this valuable craft was facing the risk of

disappearing under modernization. As the GAP

Administration, together with the Governorship

of Kilis, we acted to preserve this heritage under

our program ‘Transforming Disappearing Local

Textiles into Economic Value.’

Bambi Yatak, as a rooted Turkish brand, believed in

the potential of this project and became a part of it.

Thus, a sustainable economic model was created. The

decision to sell Kilis quilts in all Bambi stores across

Türkiye and abroad has secured the future of this craft.

We worked shoulder to shoulder with Bambi

designers, drawing inspiration from the cultural

wealth of Southeastern Anatolia—combining

ancient motifs from Oylum Höyük, Zeugma,

Göbeklitepe, Karahantepe, and Dara with modern

lines. The result is a completely new collection. In

the hands of Kilis women, tradition and modernity,

the local and the universal came together.”

“We Modernized Our Traditional Motifs

with Bambi”

Pınar Sadakaoğlu, President of the Kilis Association

for Humanitarian and Social Development, explained:

“Quilting was known as a male-dominated craft,

and the question ‘Why not women?’ shaped the

essence of this project. With the support of the

GAP Administration and the Kilis Governorship,

we opened quilting courses for women. With the

guidance of quilt masters, products made with

quilting techniques started to emerge.

At this point, we reinterpreted our traditional

motifs with Bambi’s designers, creating unique

designs that turned into legendary quilts now

available in Bambi stores. While the masters take

pride in passing down this nearly lost craft, women

enjoy both participating in production and gaining

economic income by working with a strong brand

like Bambi. We are delighted to be the bridge in

this meaningful collaboration.”

Three New Motifs for the Kilis Quilt:

“Anatolia”, “Firuze”, and “Gypsy Girl”

Within the scope of the “With Women’s Hands,

With Their Labor” project, quilts produced by Kilis

women come to life with three motifs inspired by

cultural roots. These motifs symbolize abundance,

fertility, productivity, and the richness of nature—

core elements of Anatolian heritage.

Alongside “Anatolia” and “Firuze,” the “Gypsy

Girl” quilt was inspired by the famous mosaic

unearthed in Zeugma in 1998, which has become

one of the city’s most iconic symbols.

Falling in Love with

Buldan Fabric, a Wonder

of the Clothing Industry

HTE HOME TEXTILE EXPORTS DECEMBER | 2025

TRENDS 65

Located in Denizli province, Buldan is one of the

region’s most important textile centers. It is famous

throughout Türkiye for its beautiful garments

crafted in traditional workshops using cotton, wool,

and silk. The art of weaving in Buldan dates back

to around 800 BC, flourished during the Roman

period as a major textile hub, supplied exquisite

fabrics to the Ottoman Empire—especially for

the garments of Topkapı Palace’s concubines

and noblewomen—and continues today as a vital

source of textile production in the region.

Historically, Buldan has been a key center of

Türkiye’s textile industry, a reputation it still

maintains. The craft largely survives thanks to

independent artisans who maintain centuriesold

techniques. Buldan fabrics are the modern

continuation of this deep-rooted tradition.

Buldan textiles are known for their durability,

achieved through tight spinning using high-quality

cotton. For this reason, Buldan garments were

favored by members of high society—queens,

kings, palace residents, and elite families. Before

the Ottoman rule, well-organized trade guilds

in Buldan ensured the superior quality of cotton

garments. When the Ottomans took control, they

supported the guilds, encouraged the expansion of

workshops, and upheld production standards. As a

result, Buldan quickly became a major textile hub.

The fame of Buldan’s textiles spread far and

wide—from the Adriatic coast to the Great Wall of

Buldan stands out with its longestablished

weaving heritage, and its

most renowned product is its unique

fabric. Made from 100% natural cotton

and produced without the use of

chemicals, this fabric is highly ecofriendly.

Its colors come from dyes

obtained from plant roots, making it

both sustainable and authentic.

China during the Ottoman era. Luxurious garments

were regularly delivered to Topkapı Palace for

concubines, favored ladies, and queen mothers.

They were also presented as prestigious gifts to

foreign ambassadors by sultans and grand viziers

in the 17th and 18th centuries. Later, European

buyers obtained these high-quality fabrics through

Venetian merchants. Today, visitors to Topkapı

Palace can admire shirts, robes, jackets, and

scarves produced in Buldan’s historic workshops.

Traditional motifs commonly featured tulips,

carnations, and various floral designs. The

dominant colors included tile blue, deep red,

quince orange, and saffron yellow. These aesthetic

traditions are still evident in Buldan’s weaving

process. Until 1889, weaving in Buldan was

done with primitive handlooms. For centuries, all

Buldan textiles were handcrafted on these looms.

After electricity became widespread, mechanical

weaving began, and today advanced automatic

Among Buldan’s most famous products are its

bath towels, known in Turkish as “peştamal

(peshtamal).” Traditionally woven from silk and

cotton, they were once used by Turkish women

to cover their heads and waists while shopping.

Today, they also serve as tablecloths, bedspreads,

and charming souvenirs from Türkiye.

Buldan fabric naturally keeps the body cool in the

heat and warm in the cold. It features distinctive

local motifs such as Buldan lake, bird’s eye, black

almond top, beet, and amulet—each reflecting a

part of the region’s identity.

Handlooms continue to be used today because

the fabrics they produce are more durable and

carry richer character. Younger generations take

pride in inheriting the craft and protect it like a

cherished legacy.

Beyond clothing, Buldan textiles come in various sizes

suitable for bed linens, curtains, tablecloths, shawls,

and much more. Explore our Buldan collection and

bring home a piece of this timeless tradition.
