Welcome to the Cake of Life Magazine!

We’re a youth-led literary magazine dedicated to unveiling

the creative talents of teens. We accept all types of

submissions monthly: art, photography, poetry, prose & more.

The Cake of Life Magazine aims to enrich the talents of

youths globally.

How do our fellow peers perceive life?

Let’s hear from some of our own submissions on

their perception of life.

The Perpetual Cycle of Life

Life

An interminable train.

Passing through stations of youth, sorrow and grief,

It dares not to pull the brakes against time itself.

For the joyous laugh slips away like our summer’s vanilla ice cream,

Its bliss melted into the tears of a dying day.

As the train departed from our merriment,

Speeding up, it dares to mock our waning happiness.

Once the train speeds past the youthful days and clueless nights,

Our fingers stretch,

Aching as it twitched, begging to relive our contentment.

When tears roll down our reddened cheeks,

The train slows down for the world’s subdue

As if reminding us of the once lively station,

Our shining summers and sticky hands.

For this train flashes memories of our once joyful tears,

Us, incredulous to meet our journey’s gradual slowing,

For at our final stop, the door opens,

There stands the Grim Reaper,

Waiting for us.

Life is full of doors. Some are loud and dramatic slamming shut behind you

when you swear you didn't even touch them.

Others stay half open, patiently waiting for you to decide if your brave enough

to open them. As a teenager, it feels like you’re in an endlessly stretched

hallway lined with doors after doors after doors: all choices, changes and

chances.

There are doors you outgrow, doors you wish you never opened and doors that

are locked, but you don't have the keys for them yet. Every single door has one

thing in common, they're all a choice that you have to make eventually,

whether it's an easy choice or a scary one. It's your chance to discover yourself.

Not every door is perfect, and not every doorway feels comfortable. But each

one teaches you something. And slowly, you're building your own map, room by

room, choice by choice.

That's the thing about doors, they don't just open to new places.

They open to new versions of you.

Life is like a boat ride; it goes up and down, and there’s a reason you’re on it.

Sometimes, you can be lonely; you could also be on a yacht with all your friends,

or even alongside strangers. Every boat is different, and that’s okay. You could

have a clean golden boat that can look wealthy and rich or it could be falling to

bits. Your boat doesn't have to be perfect. It can be different and unique; it might

be full of colour and lights, or it might be a dark hole. It doesn’t matter what

colour or what shape your boat is: what matters is you. You might really like the

way it looks, or you might despise and hate it, and that’s okay but no matter

what. You can never sink it on purpose. Other people may love your boat and

envy it; some might not like it. Just remember, someone will always love you.

They’ll appreciate you, so don’t give up, don’t lose hope. Even if it’s hard, keep

going. It’s never gonna be perfect but you can try your best and be who you are.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
