Golf in a tropical paradise
with breathtaking views...
The course is located in one of South
East Asia’s most sensational settings,
often described as a tropical paradise
by tourists and earning The Els Club
Teluk Datai a reputation as the most
scenic of Malaysia’s many breath-taking
golfing venues.
A 10-million-year-old rainforest is
the backdrop to the course, with the
surrounding appeal of the blue waters
of the Straits of Malacca. The five holes,
which skirt the water’s edge, bring the
other islands in the archipelago and
Langkawi’s white, sandy beaches into
full view, to the delight of all golfers.
The flawlessly manicured playing
surfaces at The Els Club Teluk Datai are
a constant, in true tribute to the design
which carries its creator’s name. With
no bunkers on the course, the layout
relies on strategically placed tree-lines
and a naturally meandering stream,
spectacular views across the Straits
of Malacca and shadowed by the Mat
Chinchang mountain it is no wonder
that it caught the eye of the ranking
committee.

ANGKOR GOLF RESORT was designed by Sir

greens have plenty of subtle undulations. Great

conditioning and operations management consulting
by IMG is excellent, and there are many

Sometimes it is just fun to get away from the main golf destinations and head out
to the country with a few friends to play some golf and share a few cool drinks. So
here we have selected two excellent golf resorts to chill out.

in many uneven lies and, at the same time, wide
fairways playable for resort golfers. Many risk-reward
opportunities create excitement for all
golfers. Boasting a resort hotel, lavish pool villas,
a marina, and a beach club, this resort has all the
elements for a very relaxing break away from the

Where to stay
So how much
should you tip
your caddie?
There are several great regions to play golf at the highest level in SE Asia, so here
we break down a few favorite places where you can stay to get the best out of
your vacation.
Last year Taylor Gooch won his second LIV
Golf event in the space of just two weeks
winning a staggering US$ 12 million.
Spare a thought for his lucky caddie
Australian Mal Baker who received around
US$ 1.2 million, assuming he was taking the
usual 10%.
Excellent work if you can get it, however as
for us mere mortals who take in a round of
golf in SE Asia, we often wonder how much
to tip the beautiful female caddie at the end
of our round.
Although the club gives them a percentage
of the caddie fee, they really rely on our
generosity to tip them at the end of the
round.
Remember they probably don’t work every
day, and having looked after you for 4-5
hours, driven your cart, cleaned your clubs
and read the greens, often in hot or wet
weather, they do earn their bonus.
Phoenix Gold Pattaya
Mark Siegel CEO at Golfasian recommends
after your round-tipping them between
US$15 – 25 especially if it is a hot humid
day.
Of course, if you get a hole-in-one or a
fistful of birdies maybe it would be a lot
more.
And remember they are at least a lot prettier
than your average professional bagman!
US$ 15-25
Seems to be the ideal range for a tip. Aim for a
higher rate if the day was hot and humid.
