Smarter Space, Smarter
Living
In a construction and design
landscape where space is shrinking
but expectations continue to rise,
Wallbed Systems Ltd is proving that
innovation doesn’t require more
square footage — just smarter
thinking. Recently honoured with
Building & Construction Review’s
Commitment to Excellence Award,
the company continues to set
the benchmark for intelligent,
space-saving solutions. The award
recognises not only two decades
of expertise from Director Jeremy
Waller, but also the company’s
outstanding leadership in product
engineering, innovation and supplychain
excellence.
For architects, designers and fit-out
specialists, wall beds are no longer a
novelty — they are a powerful design
tool. A single installation can reclaim
up to 5m² in a 75m² apartment,
unlocking over 6% of usable space.
That’s the difference between
compromise and comfort; between
a cluttered room and a flexible,
multi-functional living environment.
Hotels (see image) also benefit from
our wallbeds, as they have perfect
balance, regardless of the mattress
being used.
As urban living intensifies and
property prices continue to climb, the
demand for adaptable interiors has
never been greater. Wallbed Systems

premium solutions that enable
designers to create homes that work

Setting the Standard for
Commitment To Excellence
Safeguarding Excellence
In an era where safeguarding has become an essential
responsibility for organisations of every size and
sector, X2Consult stands out as a leader committed to
excellence, integrity, and proactive protection.
Although the business is registered in Maidstone, Kent,
X2Consult operates far beyond regional boundaries,
delivering its expertise across the UK, throughout
Europe, and internationally. Its reach reflects both the
growing global demand for high-quality safeguarding
guidance and the company’s reputation as a trusted
specialist in child protection, vulnerable adult safety, and
organisational risk management.
At the core of X2Consult’s mission is a simple but vital
purpose: to help organisations create safe environments
where children, young people, and vulnerable adults
can thrive. The consultancy brings together extensive
frontline experience, rigorous professional standards, and
a forward-thinking approach to safeguarding challenges.
The company’s
comprehensive
suite of services
is designed
to support
organisations
at every
stage of their
safeguarding
journey. These
include event safeguarding, from pre-planning risk
assessments to on-the-day incident response; the use
of Covert Safeguarding Officers trained in behaviour
detection; and thorough safeguarding audits to evaluate
existing policies and procedures.
Beyond assessment and intervention, X2Consult
also excels in policy development — crafting bespoke
safeguarding frameworks tailored to each organisation’s
unique needs. Its accredited training courses equip
professionals, such as Designated Safeguarding Leads,
with the practical skills and confidence required to
manage complex safeguarding situations. Additional
offerings, including risk assessment intelligence,
resource creation, seminars, webinars, and ‘critical friend’
consultancy, ensure ongoing support and continuous
improvement.
X2Consult’s work spans
a wide range of sectors,
from education and
community organisations
to sports clubs, local
authorities, NGOs, major
events, and large-scale
public gatherings.
Wherever safeguarding
responsibilities exist,
X2Consult provides the
expertise to meet them
with professionalism and
precision.
“What makes us truly stand out is
the flexibility of our engagement
models. Clients may engage us on
an ad-hoc ‘day rate consultancy’
basis, or they can opt for longer-term
‘safeguarding partnership’ retainers,
which ensure continuous support,
updates, and access to resources,”
stated Thomas Stead, Managing
Director & Safeguarding Consultant
at X2Consult.
X2Consult Ltd was formally incorporated as a limited
company on 30 October 2024 and has since been
growing its role in providing specialist safeguarding and
child-protection consultancy across public, private, and
voluntary sectors. This growth reflects increased demand
for specialist safeguarding support, especially in settings
hosting vulnerable individuals, large events, or complex
stakeholder environments.
“I would emphasise that X2Consult views safeguarding
not as a box-ticking exercise, but as a foundational
commitment to people’s welfare. Our goal is not merely
compliance, but to foster environments where children,
young people, and vulnerable adults
can thrive safely,” added Thomas.
With more advanced and bespoke
training courses — including virtual and
hybrid seminar and webinar formats
to increase accessibility — on the horizon, X2Consult is
also looking to build its resource library (policies, training
materials, guidance documents) and share best-practice
insights via thought leadership (blogs, white papers,
webinars), further establishing itself as a leading voice in
safeguarding.
In closing, Thomas added:
“I am deeply honoured. Recognition in the form of a
‘Commitment to Excellence Award’ underscores that
our work, often carried out behind the scenes, matters.
It validates our dedication to safeguarding, quality, and
professionalism. Such an award would not only reflect on
X2Consult’s past efforts but also reinforce our resolve
to continue raising standards across the safeguarding
sector.”

Company Of The Year 2025
Strengthening Infrastructure,
One Seal at a Time
its operational capabilities and grow
its distribution network across the
country.
We caught up with Tina, to see how
the last 12 months have been for the
company:
In this issue of Building & Construction Review,
we are pleased to feature Service Sealing
Solutions Ltd as our Sealing Systems Company
of the Year.
Based in the heart of Shropshire, Service
Sealing Solutions Ltd is a trusted leader in
high-quality utility sealing systems, supplying
innovative solutions to both public and private
sector projects across the UK. Unlike traditional
distributors, the company goes beyond supply
— providing complete support throughout
every stage of a project to ensure contractors
achieve the best outcomes in safety,
performance, and compliance.
Founded by Company Director, Tina McAra,
the business was created in response to
a growing demand for advanced sealing
technologies that safeguard buildings and
infrastructure. Recognising the opportunity
to expand nationally, Tina welcomed her
husband Jim into the company to strengthen
“The last 12 months have been
extremely positive. Inquiries are
on a parr with last year, though
our conversion rate to order
has improved. We have slightly
exceeded forecast with inquiries
and expected orders, likely to stay
strong into the early part of next
year.”
Correct sealing plays a crucial role in ensuring
that utilities such as power, water, and
communications remain accessible throughout
a building’s lifespan. Not only does this simplify
maintenance with minimal disruption, but it
also protects structures from the costly and
harmful effects of water ingress. Wherever
ducts pass through walls, floors, or ceilings,
advanced sealing systems help prevent
moisture penetration, mitigating risks of
structural decay and maintaining
the integrity of assets for the
long term.
As the exclusive UK
distributor for two of
the sealing industry’s
most respected
manufacturers —
DOYMA and HKD
— Service Sealing
Solutions Ltd delivers
premium products
engineered for durability,
watertight performance, and
compliance with the highest industry
standards. Their extensive
portfolio of sealing solutions
supports a wide range of utility
applications, offering reliability
recognised by contractors
nationwide.
“The primary range of products
we sell has an industry leading
25-year manufacturers backed
guarantee. DOYMA have had
sealing products in service since
the 1970's which continue to
perform, and we are extremely
proud to be technical partners
and distributors for DOYMA
GmbH. We also have some
exciting product launches due
for 2026!” added Tina.
One of DOYMA’s most popular products is the
DOYMAfix® which incorporates an innovative
design that guarantees simple, fast, and safe
installation of connection pipes for heat pumps.
This product is the first professional aboveground
entry for air-to-water heat pumps,
and can be installed in a short time. With this
unique system, DOYMA enables thermal to be
maintained, transmitted noise from the heat
pump is reduced and building air tightness is
assured aiding the fabric of the building
to meet Part L of UK Building
Regulations.
With personalised support,
technical expertise, and a commitment to
exceptional product quality, Service Sealing
Solutions Ltd continues to set the benchmark
for service duct sealing across the UK.

New Year Spotlight
Smarter materials.
Smarter refurbishment.
With home and garden renovations
continuing to rise, homeowners are
increasingly turning to personalised
designs that emphasise sustainability
and craftsmanship. Bespoke
carpentry, handmade tiles, and
coloured rooflights are becoming key
features in homes that balance style
with environmental responsibility.
Structure One Timberworks
has been at the forefront of full
renovations, extensions, and kitchen
refurbishments since 2006. Founded
by Darren Noble, the family-run
company has earned a reputation for
excellence across Gloucestershire
and the surrounding regions. As an
approved kitchen installer for more
than 15 years, the business combines
traditional skills with modern design
to deliver exceptional results in both
residential and commercial projects.
Among its standout achievements,
the company designed and built
a fully fitted commercial gym
and co-working space that was
recognised as a finalist in the London
Construction Awards 2024. The
project featured a distinctive “forest
railway” concept, blending heritage
elements with contemporary biophilic
design—showcasing exposed
timber beams, open-plan layouts,
ergonomic workstations, and the use
of sustainable materials throughout.
Over the past year, Structure One
Timberworks has expanded its
services to include landscaping,
healthcare properties, and bespoke
kitchen design. From handcrafted
solid wood cabinetry to made-tomeasure
splashbacks, the team
continues to deliver tailored solutions
for every client. The business has also
grown its workforce to support larger,
more complex projects, including
fully managed kitchen renovations
and extensive home extensions from
planning through to completion.
timberworks@structure1.co.uk
@structure1timberworks for
project updates
If we expect buildings to last longer,
perform better, and meet net-zero
targets, the kitchen needs to catch
up. Fortunately, a new generation
of kitchen system already exists—
component-based, long-lasting, and
circular by design.
At the centre of this shift is Puustelli
Miinus, a Finnish system built around
the SmartFrame bio-composite
structure. By removing MDF and
chipboard entirely, the frame delivers
a 45–70% reduction in embodied
carbon, as well as achieving M1
Indoor Air Quality certification —
an important consideration for
projects prioritising healthier interior
environments.
Where Miinus differs most from
conventional joinery is in its
SmartCabinet philosophy. Instead of
glued carcasses destined for landfill,
each cabinet is constructed as a
maintainable system. Rails, panels,
shelves, drawers, and fronts can be
upgraded, refurbished, or reused
individually, extending service life
and reducing waste across every
future refurbishment cycle.
For architects, specifiers, and
building owners, this offers a
practical route to improving asset
longevity, lowering lifetime costs,
and aligning with emerging ESG
and whole-life performance
requirements.
Sustique is the sole UK agent for
Puustelli Miinus, and the system can
be viewed at The Building Centre in
London and the National Self Build &
Renovation Centre in Swindon.

Redi-Rock retaining wall
solutions
Moore Concrete has been manufacturing
Redi-Rock retaining wall solutions
for over 15 years, delivering a proven
system valued by engineers, architects,
contractors, and property owners for its
strength, versatility, and efficiency. As
a licensed producer under Redi-Rock
International (USA), Moore Concrete
combines factory-controlled quality with
global research and full technical support
across every project.
Redi-Rock stands out for its structural
integrity and long-term durability. Each
block is wet-cast in high-strength
concrete under controlled conditions,
achieving a design life of 120 years
and performing reliably under heavy
loads and harsh weather. The system
is fully British Board of Agrément (BBA)
approved under Certificate 12/R149,
meeting rigorous UK roads and bridges
specifications.
Installation efficiency is a major
advantage. The modular interlocking
system allows fast alignment and reduced
labour requirements, meaning Redi-Rock
walls can be installed significantly faster
than traditional masonry—often up to ten
times quicker. Gravity walls can reach
heights of up to 7.6 m without geogrid
in many cases, simplifying design and
construction.
Redi-Rock also supports sustainable
construction goals, with locally sourced
materials, lower-carbon concrete options
such as GGBS blends, and reduced
waste thanks to its modular design.
Moore Concrete’s introduction of XL
Blocks enhances the system further. With
double-height faces (914 mm), these
blocks reduce installation time, offer
lighter handling thanks to their hollow
core, and remain fully compatible with the
entire Redi-Rock range. Available in three
depths—1.37 m, 1.83 m, and 2.44 m—XL
Blocks enable taller, more efficient gravity
wall designs up to 7.6 m without geogrid
requirements.
Redi-Rock is used widely across
residential, commercial, infrastructure, rail,
roads, flood defence, landscaping, and
public-realm projects. Moore Concrete
provides comprehensive support from
concept through installation, including
design services, 3D drawings, and
compliance with BS EN 1997-1:2004,
ensuring safe, high-performance retaining
wall solutions for projects of all scales.

Rethinking Winter Safety
in a Sustainable Built
Environment
As the construction industry continues
its shift toward safer, cleaner and
more sustainable practices, winter
maintenance is an area undergoing quiet
but meaningful innovation. Traditional
rock salt, long relied upon for ice control,
is increasingly under scrutiny for its
corrosive impact on concrete, metal
and surrounding ecosystems. EcoGrit,
a UK-based specialist in eco-friendly
de-icing solutions, is offering a compelling
alternative.
EcoGrit’s flagship de-icer is produced
using by-products from the cereal industry
and includes a processed form of salt that
delivers high performance without the
corrosive effects of conventional de-icing
salt. The result is a biodegradable and nontoxic
solution that is safe for pets, plants,
waterways, and infrastructure alike. More
than just environmentally responsible, the
product is also highly effective, remaining
active at temperatures as low as –20 °C —
significantly outperforming conventional
salt.
For construction sites, developers and
facilities managers, the benefits are clear.
Reduced corrosion means longer-lasting
concrete, fewer repairs to metal fixtures,
and less damage to drainage systems
and surrounding landscapes. Longer
residual performance also means fewer
applications and improved site safety
during prolonged cold spells.
In an industry where sustainability is no
longer optional but essential, EcoGrit
demonstrates how practical innovation
can protect people, projects and the
planet. By rethinking something as routine
as winter gritting, EcoGrit is helping
redefine best practice across the built
environment.

Altrad RMD Kwikform
launches revolutionary
tubeshor active thermal
compensator
Above and below ground temporary
works specialist Altrad RMD Kwikform has
launched a groundbreaking new solution to
reduce the effects of thermal loading: the
Tubeshor Active Thermal Compensator
(ATC).
The Tubeshor hybrid hydraulic shoring
system is used for propping waler or
capping beams in large excavations and
is available in a range of diameters. An
evolution of Tubeshor, the patent-protected
ATC is a revolutionary accessory that
can reduce thermal loading by up to 90%
compared to a mechanically locked-off prop.
Installation and pre-loading are carried out
in the same way as a standard proprietary
prop, requiring no special skills. Tubeshor
ATC units are assembled directly into the
prop makeup, allowing the use of standard
end fittings and conventional installation
methods.
The ATC incorporates a 450-tonne
hydraulic cylinder and bladder accumulator,
pressurised to suit the specific prop design.
Under normal conditions, standard prop
stiffness applies. When higher temperatures
cause excessive thermal expansion,
the accumulator reduces prop stiffness,
preventing the usual increase in prop load.
Ian Fryer, Global Product Innovation
Director at Altrad RMD Kwikform, explains
that changing interpretations of industry
standards mean thermal loading now
represents a significant proportion of axial
prop load, impacting efficiency, cost and
carbon footprint.
By reducing thermal loading, Tubeshor
ATC enables fewer or smaller props, lowers
equipment, labour and transport costs,
improves permanent works design and
reduces CO 2 emissions. The system is
autonomous, CE certified, easy to install and
offers optional digital load monitoring.

National insulation
programme is 'lowest
hanging fruit'
Insulating hundreds of miles of pipework
in commercial and industrial buildings
could deliver an immediate boost to the
UK’s net zero ambitions and significantly
cut running costs, according to
the Building Engineering Services
Association (BESA) and the Thermal
Insulation Contractors’ Association
(TICA).
The two bodies described uninsulated
or poorly insulated pipework as the
“lowest of low hanging fruit” among
retrofit measures capable of driving
rapid energy and carbon savings. They
also supported a proposal from the
UK Green Building Council (UKGBC)
for £64bn of government investment
over 10 years in a national retrofit
programme. UKGBC research shows
this could create 140,000 skilled jobs,
avoid £60bn in electricity grid upgrades
and save the NHS £22bn through
improved health outcomes.
BESA technical adviser Keegan
Farrelly said addressing basic retrofit
actions such as pipe insulation would
deliver “a massive and rapid return on
investment”. Research by the European
Industrial Insulation Foundation (EiiF)
found the UK could save energy
equivalent to 863,000 homes and
almost 3.5 million tonnes of carbon
annually by insulating existing industrial
pipework.
TICA also highlighted the launch of
BS EN 17956:2024, a new technical
standard for insulation energy efficiency
using an A–G rating system. TICA
technical director Chris Ridge said the
standard would help close a major gap
in the UK’s net zero strategy, while BESA
confirmed its commitment to working
with TICA to place pipe insulation at the
heart of national retrofit efforts.

circumstances.
It’s mortgage offering reflects this
ethos. Whether supporting first

At a national level, this
values led approach offers a
genuinealternative in a market often
driven by volume and automation.

West Fraser and Falcon
Timber - Working in
complete harmony
Here, Stuart Sims, Falcon Timber's Chief
Marketing Officer, outlines the company's
operations and how the team works with
West Fraser.
"It's not just a strict supplier/customer
relationship. We believe that the
company's values and operations
position West Fraser at the forefront of
high-end panel production."
Falcon Timber is the overarching
distribution brand for Consolidated
Timber Holdings. In 2023, Falcon Panels
Products and MBM Forest Products
amalgamated to form Falcon Timber
Ltd, creating a strong, well-positioned
nationwide timber distribution model in
the UK. Alongside Hoffman Thornwood
and Triesse Ltd, Falcon Timber positions
CTH as a leading timber distributor and
manufacturing solutions specialist.
As a leading UK wood-based panel
products and timber importer and
distributor, Falcon Timber supplies
softwoods, plywoods, engineered
panels, OSB and more. Market-leading
product ranges, competitive pricing and
nationwide delivery are supported by
strategically located depots, including the
Port of Tilbury, and an extensive FSC®
chain of custody-certified range.
West Fraser manufactures Falcon
Timber’s exclusive STREbord® products,
the number one choice for mezzanine
flooring. Designed for strength, ease of
fit and consistent quality, STREbord®
offers multiple specifications to suit
demanding environments and meets
key environmental and performance
standards.
Falcon Timber has worked with West
Fraser for over thirty years. The
partnership is built on shared values,
environmental commitment, geographical
proximity and mutual trust, making it far
more than a traditional supplier/customer
relationship.

Strong solutions for
cabinetry and joinery
Consistency and quality are essential
attributes of materials used in
producing domestic and commercial
furniture. Combined with the need for
sustainable materials and processes,
it is unsurprising that West Fraser’s
CaberMDF and SterlingOSB Zero
are among the most popular panel
products used in the furniture
industry.
Panels for furniture and joinery
production must offer high-quality
surfaces, strength, consistent
density, good machining properties
and secure fixing performance.
Embracing all these properties, West
Fraser’s five-strong CaberMDF
range is designed as an economic
alternative to hardwood, without
defects such as knots or grain. It is
suitable for carcassing, framing and
high-quality fascias, and is widely
used in the manufacture of furniture
including cabinets, wardrobes,
kitchens and bathrooms.
CaberMDF offers excellent stability
and a smooth surface finish, ideal for
painting, paper foils and veneers. The
range includes CaberMDF Trade and
Trade MR for general and moistureresistant
applications, CaberMDF Pro
and Pro MR for premium quality and
detailed machining, and CaberMDF
Industrial for high-grade furniture and
advanced finishing techniques.
West Fraser also produces
SterlingOSB Zero, increasingly used
in furniture and contemporary interior
schemes. Stronger and tougher than
ply, with zero added formaldehyde,
it is a greener board that meets all
standards with ease.
All UK-manufactured West Fraser
panels are net carbon negative, FSC®
certified and produced from locally
grown timber.

Hinowa spider power
helps tree surgeons
beat climate change
Timber Build
CJC Timberframe
finding multiple uses for
SterlingOSB Zero
A leading regional tree management
specialist says the power of its new
Hinowa spider lift will help it overcome
increasingly challenging working
conditions caused by climate change.
Lincolnshire Tree Services has invested
in a Hinowa Lightlift 17.75 Performance
IIIS tracked spider boom, citing it as the
best machine in its class for tree work.
The platform’s compactness, reliability
and ability to reach large areas of tree
canopy from a single position are highly
valued by operatives, said director
Louise Allenby.
With climate change triggering more
frequent periods of heavy rain and
difficult ground conditions, the extra
traction delivered by the Hinowa Lightlift
17.75 is also key. Louise Allenby
explained: “The Hinowa performs
very well over poor and wet ground,
so we’ll still be able to do our work
in the most difficult conditions. This
is important as we do an increasing
amount of storm damage work.”
The new platform replaces an older
Hinowa LL 17.75, operated since 2017,
highlighting the brand’s reputation
for reliability. Lincolnshire Tree
Services prefers platform working for
safety reasons, particularly due to the
increasing prevalence of ash dieback.
The Hinowa Lightlift 17.75 Mk2 offers a
17.06m working height, 7.5m outreach
and a compact tracked design for
access through narrow spaces. The bienergy
version allows diesel or electric
operation, supporting low-noise and
indoor work.
Based in Tealby, Lincolnshire Tree
Services has operated for over 20 years,
delivering tree surgery, surveys and site
clearance for local authorities, estates,
businesses and domestic customers.

A Glasgow-based timber frame
erection specialist working across
the UK has been sharing social media
posts showing how West Fraser’s
high-performance panel products
fulfil multiple roles on its technically
challenging projects.
CJC Timberframe Ltd was established
three years ago by Kevin Clinton, with
the support of his wife Natalie, and
specialises in erecting site-specific,
factory-manufactured closed panel
systems for self-builders and individual
clients. Kevin and his team of fully
trained erectors install everything
from wall plates to roof trusses and, in
Scotland, sarking, taking projects to
the point where the envelope is fully
weatherproof. With frequent wet and
windy conditions over the past year,
the resilience of SterlingOSB Zero and
CaberDek has proved invaluable.
Kevin Clinton comments: “I have
over 20 years’ experience in timber
frame erection and in 2021 had
the opportunity to set up my own
company. Since then we’ve worked
across Scotland and as far south as
Worcester and Plymouth, mainly on
individual architect-designed homes.”
Many projects include roof trusses
and floor cassettes from Pasquill,
which also use SterlingOSB Zero.
In Scotland, the OSB is commonly
used as sarking, while CaberDek is
installed as an upstairs floor, providing
a slip-resistant platform and six weeks’
weather exposure protection.
All UK-manufactured West Fraser
panels are net carbon negative, FSC®
certified and produced from locally
grown timber.

Architects shouldn't
shut the door at
handover
Unlike a car, for which we are given
lessons and a manual, the learning
process with buildings tends to be
more intuitive. There is no MOT and
little regular servicing, particularly for
domestic properties, so maintenance
is often forgotten until something goes
wrong. Successful buildings therefore
rely on maintenance, effective use
and adaptability. This is why architects
should not complete the job at
handover, but play an ongoing role in
helping inhabitants understand and
enjoy the building.
The post-occupancy phase offers
an opportunity to ensure designs
achieve their intended functionality,
sustainability and user satisfaction. As
buildings become increasingly complex
and dependent on multiple systems,
a lack of understanding can lead to
discomfort, inefficiency and even health
issues for occupants and the building
itself.
For buildings to work as designed,
the architect’s advice must reach
inhabitants, owners and any
management company. Without
access to clear, understandable
information, even the most sustainable
building may fail to meet expectations.
Energy and environmental monitoring
can help establish whether
performance aligns with design intent,
while post-occupancy evaluation
enables architects to build ongoing
relationships with users and identify
how behaviour affects performance.
Encouraging inhabitants to take
ownership of their buildings through
continued advice helps preserve
the architect’s vision. It can drive
behavioural change, support long-term
sustainability goals and enhance
occupant health and productivity.

A building is not just an
architect's problem
When judging the
success or failure of a
building, it is often the
architect who comes
under scrutiny.
Architects carry
responsibility for
design, aesthetics
and functionality,
but this overlooks the
fact that they interpret
client ideas while being
constrained by regulations, planning
requirements, end-user needs and
budgets.
A building is not just an architect’s
challenge. In reality, responsibility
must be shared when blame – or
credit – is assigned. Likewise, the
notion that architects alone can
save the planet is flawed. They can
propose ideas, but they are only part
of a much wider system.
Buildings account for nearly 40%
of global energy-related carbon
emissions and significantly
impact natural habitats. We are all
culpable and, rather than expecting
architects to design our way out of
the climate emergency, we
must collectively change
behaviour. Buildings
need to become
self-sustaining, but
achieving this requires
shifts in stakeholder
values and genuine
responsibility from
government and industry,
not empty rhetoric.
End-users play a critical role.
Occupant behaviour determines
whether buildings perform as
intended. Even the most energyefficient
designs will fail if systems
are misused or maintenance is
neglected.
We cannot continue prioritising
low-cost, mediocre solutions over
quality and sustainability. To help
mitigate the climate emergency,
buildings must be enduring, durable
and innovative assets, delivered
through a collaborative and holistic
approach.

Best practice for flooring contractors: How
Recofloor helps drive sustainability in the vinyl
flooring sector
Adopting a few simple best practice actions can
save contractors time, cut costs, and significantly
reduce the environmental impact of flooring
projects.
Having worked closely with the industry since
2009, Recofloor – the UK-wide, award-winning
vinyl flooring take-back scheme founded by Altro
and Polyflor – has identified three practical steps
flooring contractors can take to drive sustainable
outcomes for their projects.
The first recommendation is planning in material
efficiencies ahead of starting work. Recofloor
suggests thoroughly assessing project and client
requirements to make sure the right materials
(and the right volume) is procured.
Another way to reduce offcuts and waste is
using the building design plan to map out the
optimal installation pattern in advance, ensuring
a minimum of material is needed during the
installation.
Finally, choosing a sustainable waste collection
service can reduce the amount of waste send to
landfill or incineration and minimise a project’s
environmental impact.
Recofloor’s take-back scheme has allowed
industry professionals to recover 8,000+ tonnes
of waste vinyl flooring to date. This represents
nearly 2.7 million m2 of flooring, enough to cover
44,444 UK classrooms.
Recofloor collects a range of flooring types from
flooring projects, including Luxury Vinyl Tiles
(LVT), smooth, safety and loose lay vinyl offcuts
and roll-ends, and uplifted smooth and loose lay
vinyl.
All companies need to do is sign up with
Recofloor and agree a collection arrangement
with clients and Recofloor.
Recofloor recommends documenting the
progress and request a collection waste
certificate highlighting diversion figure, offering
a win-win scenario where both flooring
contractors and their clients can bolster their
green credentials, cut down disposal costs and
contribute to a more sustainable future.

Why the hotun® Dry-Trap Tundish and the hotun
detect® Alarm System Are Best Practice for
Water-Heating Systems
HVAC installations, incl. hot water sealed-system
boilers and unvented cylinders, require discharge
devices for P/TRVs (Pressure/Temperature Relief
Valves). Critical for compliance, safety, efficiency
and maintenance. The hotun® dry-trap tundish
with the hotun detect® audible/visual alarm unit
sets a new standard for best practice.
You can terminate to an internal waste or soil
pipe and you will need a tundish followed by a
trap:
▲ A wet trap will dry out then toxic fumes can
enter a living space.
▲ A membrane trap is a great solution but it takes
up space, is expensive and you cannot see
inside should it be blocked or fail.
The hotun® dry trap tundish is your best
practice option:
▲ Smallest solution in class (from 73mm between
pipes) with comprehensive options (size, colour,
fittings, etc);
▲ World first patented hot water solution,
award winning, accepted for use by major
manufacturers (e.g., Worcester Bosch, Vaillant,
Ideal, Ariston, OSO and many more)
▲ Independently tested and approved, also flowrate
tested
▲ Open-sided, enabling visibility of water even if
no longer passing
▲ Maintenance in situ without disconnection from
the pipework
▲ Single piece construction (welded to prevent
failure)
▲ Full air break to drain standard is met incl.
backflow test
▲ 10 year warranty
▲ Unique alarm option enables
compliance with G3 to support impaired
users
▲ The alarm restores visibility at point of
discharge and alerts to passing water
when an installation is behind a door or
panelling
▲ Can prevent boiler lock-out and
can save wasted energy and
water
hotun® Its not just a tundish!

Keystone Lintels has been awarded
the Supplier of the Year Award at the
prestigious Builders’ Merchant News
(BMN) Awards 2024, marking a period
of notable recognition following its
recent successes at the Builders’
Merchant Journal (BMJ) Awards and

The ceremony, held at the Park Plaza

These awards are a testament to our

expand its bespoke product offerings
while maintaining strong relationships
