Obituary for Michael Christopher Bunting
Beloved Husband, Brother, Uncle & Friend
ichael Christopher Bunting, age 79, of Huntersville, North
Carolina, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with
cancer. Born to Winfred Cox Bunting and Hazel Edith Hill Bunting on
January 20, 1946, Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents,
who raised him in the faith and values that would shape his life.
Michael is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Kimberly
Porterfield Bunting, who stood by his side through life’s many journeys.
He is also survived by his sister, Marion LaVerne Bunting Hayes, age
91 years, of Charlotte, NC. Michael’s memory will be fondly held by his
niece, Dana Hayes Jones, her husband Thomas, and their son Keegan, all
of Charlotte, NC.
Raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Michael’s faith was a guiding light
throughout his life. He took great joy in discussing Bible teachings with
others and sharing the hope and comfort his beliefs brought him. He was
also a man of conviction and was courageous when it came to standing up
for what he believed in, even when it was not easy or popular. Whether
discussing his hope for the future or defending his faith, Michael did so
with unwavering strength, refusing to compromise his principles and
encouraged those around him to explore God’s promises for the future for
themselves.
Michael’s secular career began in television that spanned over two
decades, beginning as a TV cameraman. With dedication and creativity,
he advanced to become a TV director and producer, working for Public
TV stations in Charlotte, NC, and Virginia Beach, VA. His passion for
storytelling and visual arts left a lasting impact on the many colleagues
and viewers he inspired. Later in his life, Michael transitioned into
land development, where he applied his vision and leadership until his
retirement.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a man of many
interests. He found tranquility in the skies as a small plane pilot as well
as on the waters of Lake Norman while boating. He cherished time spent
vacationing at the beach, where he could relax and enjoy the beauty of
nature. He was known for his tender-hearted love for animals as well as
for people truly in need of assistance. And his unique sense of humor and
adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
