Last time we learned that God told Moses: “Go to Pharaoh! I am sending

you to lead my people out of his country.” But Moses was afraid and told

God: “Who am I to go to Pharaoh and lead your people out of Egypt?

And God assured Moses that He would be with him. He also told Moses

that: You will know that I am the one who sent you, when you worship

me on this mountain after you have led my people out of Egypt.

So God sent Moses back to Egypt and Moses took his wife and sons, put

each of them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the

staff of God in his hand.

31 | P a g e

When Moses approached Egypt, God sent his older brother Aaron to the

wilderness to meet him. Moses was very happy to see him and told Aaron

everything the Lord had commanded him to say. When Moses and Aaron

got back to Egypt they brought together all the elders of the Israelites,

and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. Then Moses

and Aaron went to Pharaoh. Moses told Pharaoh: “This is what the Lord,

the God of Israel, says: Let my people go.”

32 | P a g e

And Pharaoh answered: “Who is this Lord and why should I obey him? I

refuse to let you and your people go!”

Well, Pharaoh didn’t want the Israelites to leave, because then he would

lose his slaves. So he denied God’s demand, and would not release the

Hebrews.

33 | P a g e

34 | P a g e

35 | P a g e

Pharaoh was so angry that he gave orders that same day to the slave

drivers and the overseers in charge of the people. He said, “Don’t give

the people any more straw to make bricks. Let them go and get their own

straw. But require them to make the same number of bricks as before.

Don’t lower the number they have to make. They are lazy. That’s why

they are crying out, ‘Let us go. We want to offer sacrifices to our God.’

Make them work harder. Then they will be too busy to pay attention to

lies.”

Because of Pharaoh’s disobedience, God brought ten plagues upon

the people of Egypt. Before each one, Moses warned Pharaoh what

would happen. Moses told him the disasters were being sent by God. But

each time, Pharaoh hardened his heart and refused to see that the God

of Israel was much more powerful than any of the gods that the Egyptians

worshipped.

Revelation 16:10 Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain

So, Moses and Aaron did exactly as the Lord had commanded them.

Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 when they spoke to Pharaoh.

The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, “Pharaoh will say to you,

‘Do a miracle.’ When he does, speak to Aaron. Tell him, ‘Take your walking

stick and throw it down in front of Pharaoh.’ It will turn into a snake.”

So, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh. They did exactly as the Lord had

commanded them. Aaron threw the stick down in front of Pharaoh and

his officials. It turned into a snake. Then Pharaoh sent for wise men and

people who do evil magic. By doing their magic tricks, the Egyptian

magicians did the same things Aaron had done. Each one threw down

his walking stick. Each stick turned into a snake.

55 | P a g e

56 | P a g e

But Aaron’s walking stick swallowed theirs up. In spite of that, Pharaoh

became stubborn. He wouldn’t listen to them, just as the Lord had said.

Here are the other plagues God sent to Egypt. One morning Moses and

Aaron met Pharaoh at the river Nile. And Aaron held out his staff in front

of Pharaoh and his officials. He struck the water of the Nile River.

And all the water turned into blood. The fish in the Nile died. The river

smelled so bad the Egyptians couldn’t drink its water. There was blood

everywhere in Egypt.

Pharaoh was stubborn and his heart was hard and after the frogs had all

In the biblical Book of Revelation, THOSE WHO TAKE THE MARK OF THE

BEAST SUFFER GRIEVOUS, PAINFUL, MALIGNANT SORES OR ULCERS,

DESCRIBED AS A PLAGUE FROM THE FIRST ANGEL POURING OUT HIS

BOWL ON THE EARTH, specifically AFFLICTING PEOPLE WHO BORE THE

MARK AND WORSHIPPED THE BEAST'S IMAGE. These sores are seen as

DIVINE JUDGMENT, echoing earlier PLAGUES like those on Egypt (Exodus

9) and Philistines (1 Samuel 5), signifying God's wrath on those who align

with the Antichrist, and reject Him.

80 | P a g e

81 | P a g e

82 | P a g e

Key Biblical References:

Revelation 16:2: "The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the

earth, and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who bore

the mark of the beast and worshiped its image".

Revelation 13:16-18: Describes the mark (a number, 666, on the hand or

forehead) required for economic participation, identifying followers of

the beast.

Nature of the Sores:

Painful & Malignant: The Greek word used, helkos, implies a severe ulcer,

abscess, or boil, not a minor rash.

Widespread: The first bowl judgment causes these sores to break out all

over the bodies of the marked individuals.

Judgment for Idolatry: These sores are a direct consequence for those

who blaspheme God by worshipping the beast and its image.

Connection to Previous Plagues:

Plagues of Egypt (Exodus 9:8-11): God struck the Egyptians with boils and

sores after soot was scattered.

Judgment on Philistines (1 Samuel 5:6): God afflicted the Philistines with

tumors.

Contrast with Believers:

While the marked suffer these sores, those sealed with God's name are

protected from such judgments, highlighting the contrast between

allegiance to the beast and faithfulness to God.

Demonic locusts are terrifying, supernatural beings described in the

Bible's Book of Revelation (Chapter 9), unleashed during the fifth

trumpet judgment to TORMENT HUMANITY FOR FIVE MONTHS,

HARMING ONLY THOSE WITHOUT GOD'S SEAL. They possess hybrid

features like horse bodies, human faces, lion's teeth, women's hair, iron

armor, and scorpion-like tails with stingers, commanded by Apollyon (the

Destroyer). These aren't literal insects but DEMONIC ENTITIES,

symbolizing immense spiritual devastation and a final chance for

repentance, causing immense suffering where people seek death but

can't find it.

Characteristics & Appearance

94 | P a g e

Hybrid Form: Resemble horses prepared for battle, with locust-like

bodies, human faces, women's hair, lion's teeth, and iron breastplates.

SCORPION TAILS: POSSESS TAILS WITH STINGERS, CAPABLE OF

TORMENTING PEOPLE FOR FIVE MONTHS.

Sound: Their wings sound like massive armies of horses and chariots.

Role & Purpose

Torment, Not Death: Forbidden from killing, but inflict agonizing

torment, leading people to desire death.

SPIRITUAL JUDGMENT: REPRESENT GOD'S JUDGMENT ON

UNBELIEVERS DURING THE TRIBULATION.

Protection: Those with (7) GOD'S SEAL ON THEIR FOREHEADS ARE

PROTECTED.

Literal Demons: Many believe they are actual fallen angelic beings

taking on this monstrous form.

Pharaoh: I will not let Israel go! Finally, the last plague came which was

the worst of all. The Lord had spoken to Moses and He had said, “I will

show me where you live, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.

Then you won’t be struck by the terrible disasters I will bring on Egypt.

103 | P a g e

So, at midnight the Lord killed the first-born son of every Egyptian family,

GEOECONOMIC CONFRONTATION TOPS

GLOBAL RISKS IN 2026: WEF REPORT

137 | P a g e

138 | P a g e

DUBAI: Geoeconomic confrontation has emerged as the top global risk

this year, followed by state-based armed conflict, according to a new

World Economic Forum report. The Global Risks Report 2026, released

on Wednesday, found that both risks climbed eight places year-on-year,

underscoring a sharp deterioration in the global outlook amid increased

international competition.

The top five risks are geoeconomic confrontation (18 percent of

respondents), state-based armed conflict (14 percent), extreme weather

events (8 percent), societal polarization (7 percent) and misinformation

and disinformation (7 percent). The WEF’s Managing Director Saadia

Zahidi said the report “offers an early warning system as the age of

competition compounds global risks — from geoeconomic confrontation

to unchecked technology to rising debt — and changes our collective

capacity to address them. “But none of these risks are a foregone

conclusion.”

139 | P a g e

140 | P a g e

The report assesses risks across three timeframes: immediate (2026);

short-to-medium term (next two years); and long term (next 10 years).

Economic risks show the largest overall increase in the two-year outlook,

with both economic downturn and inflation jumping eight positions.

Misinformation and disinformation rank fifth this year but rise to second

place in the two-year outlook and fourth over the 10-year horizon.

The report suggests this reflects growing anxiety around the rapid

adoption of artificial intelligence, with adverse outcomes linked to AI

surging from 30th place in the two-year timeframe to fifth in the 10-year

outlook.

Uncertainty dominates the global risk outlook, according to the report.

Surveyed leaders and experts view both the short- and long-term outlook

negatively, with 50 percent expecting a turbulent or stormy global

environment over the next two years, rising to 57 percent over the next

decade.

A further 40 percent and 32 percent, respectively, describe the outlook

as unsettled across the two- and 10-year timeframes, while just 1 percent

anticipate a calm global outlook in either period.

Environmental risks ease slightly in the short-term rankings. Extreme

weather fell from second to fourth place and pollution from sixth to

ninth. Meanwhile, critical changes to Earth systems and biodiversity loss

dropped seven and five positions, respectively.

However, over the next decade, environmental threats re-emerge as the

most severe, with extreme weather, biodiversity loss, and critical changes

to Earth systems topping the global risk rankings.

141 | P a g e

142 | P a g e

Looking ahead over the next decade, around 75 percent of respondents

anticipate a turbulent or stormy environmental outlook, making it the

most pessimistic assessment across all risk categories.

Zahidi said that “the challenges highlighted in the report underscore both

the scale of the potential perils we face and our shared responsibility to

shape what comes next.”

Despite the gloomy outlook, Zahidi signaled a positive shift in global

cooperation.

“It is also clear that new forms of global cooperation are already

unfolding even amid competition, and the global economy is

demonstrating resilience in the face of uncertainty.”

Now in its 21st year, the Global Risks Report highlights a core message:

global risks cannot be managed without cooperation.

As competition intensifies, rebuilding trust and new forms of

collaboration will be critical, with the report stressing that today’s

decisions will shape future outcomes.

The report was released ahead of WEF’s annual meeting, which will be

held in Davos from Jan. 19 to 23.

DUBAI: Overall levels of international cooperation have held steady in

recent years, with smaller and more innovative partnerships emerging,

often at regional and cross-regional levels, according to a World

Economic Forum report.

The third edition of the Global Cooperation Barometer was launched on

Thursday, ahead of the WEF’s annual meeting in Davos from Jan. 19 to

23.

“The takeaway of the Global Cooperation Barometer is that while

multilateralism is under real strain, cooperation is not ending, it is

adapting,” Ariel Kastner, head of geopolitical agenda and

communications at WEF, told Arab News.

148 | P a g e

149 | P a g e

Developed alongside McKinsey & Company, the report uses 41 metrics

to track (5) GLOBAL COOPERATION IN FIVE AREAS: TRADE AND CAPITAL;

INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY; CLIMATE AND NATURAL CAPITAL;

HEALTH AND WELLNESS; and PEACE AND SECURITY.

The pace of cooperation differs across sectors, with (7) PEACE AND

SECURITY SEEING THE LARGEST DECLINE. Cooperation weakened across

every tracked metric as CONFLICTS INTENSIFIED, MILITARY SPENDING

ROSE and MULTILATERAL MECHANISMS STRUGGLED TO CONTAIN

CRISES.

Rising finance flows and global supply chains supported record

deployment of clean technologies, even as progress remained

insufficient to meet global targets. Despite tighter controls, cross-border

data flows, IT services and digital connectivity continued to expand,

underscoring the resilience of technology cooperation amid increasing

restrictions. The report found that collaboration in critical technologies is

increasingly being channeled through smaller, aligned groupings rather

than broad multilateral frameworks.

This reflects a broader shift, Kastner said, highlighting the trend toward

“pragmatic forms of collaboration — at the regional level or among

smaller groups of countries — that advance both shared priorities and

national interests.” “In the Gulf, for example, partnerships and

investments with Asia, Europe and Africa in areas such as energy,

technology and infrastructure, illustrate how focused collaboration can

deliver results despite broader, global headwinds,” he said.

Meanwhile, health and wellness and trade and capital remained flat.

Health outcomes have so far held up following the pandemic, but sharp

declines in development assistance are placing growing strain on lowerand

middle-income countries. In trade, cooperation remained above prepandemic

levels, with goods volumes continuing to grow, albeit at a

slower pace than the global economy, while services and selected capital

flows showed stronger momentum.

“Crucially, the building block of cooperation in today’s more uncertain

era is dialogue — parties can only identify areas of common ground by

speaking with one another.”

FAISAL ISLAM: GLOBAL DISRUPTION

LOOMS LARGE OVER BIGGEST-EVER

DAVOS

159 | P a g e

Apart from the snow and the temperature Greenland does not have

much in common with the Swiss alps. But the fight for the future of the

island looms over the gathering of world leaders and businesses at the

World Economic Forum (WEF) this week.

Indeed, the timing of Donald Trump's extraordinary threat must have had

in mind this meeting. TRUMP LOVES DAVOS. And that is beyond strange

given the views of his base.

LAST YEAR, HE BEAMED HIMSELF INTO THE WEF FROM THE WHITE

HOUSE, APPEARING BEFORE AN AUDIENCE OF LARGELY BEWILDERED

EUROPEAN EXECUTIVES JUST TWO DAYS AFTER HIS INAUGURATION.

There was awkward shuffling as he mentioned his territorial ambitions

for Canada and Greenland, and made an "offer you can't refuse" to those

importing into his country. Build factories in the US or pay tariffs that will

raise trillions. "Your prerogative".

He did it with a smile, however, apologised for not coming, and promised

he would be there this year.

And on Wednesday he will be here pushing the Team USA message at a

time of bewilderment in much of the rest of the world, especially in

Europe. TRUMP IS DUE TO SPEAK AT WHAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST DAVOS

EVER, driven by his presence and his policies, which have caused what

one of the cerebral sessions of WEF might refer to with a snappy title like

"THE GREAT GLOBAL DISRUPTION".

TRUMP IS THE DISRUPTOR IN CHIEF, CERTAINLY RIGHT NOW. And he will

be pursued by other world leaders and corporate bosses about his

attempt to coerce Europe economically to sell Greenland. THE FORUM

WILL BE BOTH THE CENTRE OF THE WORLD THIS WEEK - AND TOTALLY

BIZARRE.

"A SPIRIT OF DIALOGUE" IS THE OFFICIAL THEME, and while there are

certainly opportunities at an event like this for conversations not possible

elsewhere, there is much in the US administration's approach that seems

to be opposed to the call for global cooperation that is the essence of this

place.

After all, Davos is not a great brand in Planet Make America Great Again

(MAGA).

The conference in the Swiss Alps is more often the brunt of attacks like

that from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who once claimed his state was

the place where the "Davos agenda is dead on arrival" and promised he

would resist its "woke banks" and "lab grown meat".

This year there have been suggestions that THE WHITE HOUSE INSISTED

ON THE FORUM PLAYING DOWN ITS TYPICAL GREEN, GLOBAL

DEVELOPMENT AND "WOKE" AGENDAS IN FAVOUR OF HARD-NOSED

BUSINESS ISSUES.

Meanwhile, America's biggest companies have been shaken down to

create a "USA House" in a church for delegates to celebrate the World

Cup and the 250th anniversary of US independence.

GIVEN THE GLOBAL ARGUMENTS OVER BORDERS AND SOVEREIGN

POWER from Greenland to Caracas to the Donbas, and the world leader's

present, it is not impossible to envisage some sort of summit like Yalta -

the 1945 meeting that gathered the leaders of the US, UK and Russia to

plot the defeat of Germany - on the sidelines.

Most of the G7 leaders are coming, as will Ukrainian President Zelensky,

along with 65 other heads of state and government and 850 of the

world's top bosses, and dozens more tech pioneers. Trump himself will

be arriving in the Swiss alps with five cabinet members, a massive

entourage of administration officials, and the US business elite from

Nvidia's Jensen Huang to Microsoft's Satya Nadella.

But this is not friendly home territory for the US president. His coded

hints about obtaining or even invading Greenland will not go down well

with a European audience.

Instead, it will be Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who will

represent the vision of North America that Europe would love to will into

existence. Carney has ridden out the best part of a year of US trade chaos

with a growing economy, having replaced the US with other trade

partners and was recently spotted proclaiming a new world order

protecting multilateralism with Xi Jinping in China.

The Chinese themselves will be present at finance minister level, offering

up their country - the world's second largest economy and now largest

car exporter - as the world's grown ups. It is a place where every year

they seem to tap their watches and wait for their slow economic,

technological and geopolitical ascent.

After all, let's not forget the lessons of last year's Davos, where the US

triumphalism on display on the Tuesday had been utterly superseded by

the end of the week with news about a strange Chinese AI chatbot called

DeepSeek.

It was at Davos a decade ago that I was first told about a quantum

computer. Many people rail against Davos. But it will be worth tuning in:

the future can be found in some of its most brightly branded corners.
