From launching Lidder Home Care, to being named Proud to Care finalists and reaching our fantastic fundraising goal of
£10,000 for Tiny Tablets for residents at Newgate Lodge Care Home and Lowmoor Nursing Home, there has been so much
to celebrate.
None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedication, compassion and hard work shown every
single day by our incredible team, alongside the continued trust and support of our residents and their families and the
valued partnership of the professionals we work with.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our Lidder Care teams for your commitment, kindness and resilience. The
care you provide goes far beyond tasks and routines - it is felt in the warmth, dignity and respect you show our residents
and clients every day. To our residents, clients and families, thank you for placing your trust in us. It is a privilege to support
you and we are grateful for your understanding, encouragement and involvement throughout the year.
As we look ahead to the New Year, we do so with optimism and ambition and with a renewed commitment to providing
outstanding, person-centred care. We are excited about what the future holds and confident that together we will continue

Our Proud To Care Awards Finalists
We are proud to announce that we have had two nominees as finalists in the Nottinghamshire Proud to Care Awards
organised by the Nottinghamshire Care Association.
With over 400 nominees, Chris Morrisson, our dedicated Home Manager at Lowmoor Nursing Home, was shortlisted in the
prestigious Leader of the Year category, celebrating his inspiring leadership and commitment to providing outstanding care.
Joining him among the finalists is Maggie Blower, our compassionate and highly skilled Deputy Manager, who has been
recognised in the Social Care Nurse / Nursing Associate category for her exceptional professionalism, empathy and clinical
excellence.
These nominations are a true reflection of the passion, dedication and care that both Chris and Maggie bring to their roles
each and every day. Their commitment to supporting residents, colleagues and the wider community perfectly embodies
the values we hold at Lowmoor Nursing Home and across the Lidder Care group.
Although they were not winners on the night, both Chris and Maggie were recognised as runners-up in their respective
categories — a remarkable achievement in itself. We are incredibly proud that they have received regional recognition for
the outstanding dedication, professionalism, and care they demonstrate every single day.

care by recognising individuals and teams who go above and beyond to deliver compassionate, inclusive and high-quality

Hi Everyone
Lowmoor Living
I hope everyone is having a lovely autumn.
Lowmoor has had another positive few months. We
have had an external Medication Audit and Infection
Control Audit, which went well. Maggie Blower, Deputy
Manager and I were nominated for awards at the Proud
to Care Awards 2025.
Maggie was nominated for Social Care Nurse, and I
was nominated for Leader of the Year. We both came
runners up in our categories. Lowmoor staff continue
to work hard providing safe, high quality care to all our
residents.
As we move into the festive season Lowmoor has many
activities planned.

Colourful Autumn Crafts at Lowmoor
The gentlemen at Lowmoor Nursing Home have been
embracing the autumnal season with some creative fun,
spending the afternoon painting vibrant autumn leaves. The
activity brought plenty of smiles and laughter, as residents
enjoyed expressing themselves through colour and design
while celebrating the beauty of the season. Arts and crafts
sessions like these are a favourite, offering residents the
chance to stay active, socialise and engage in meaningful
activities.

Pumpkin Carving Fun
Our residents and staff fully embraced the Halloween spirit
with some festive pumpkin fun. Everyone enjoyed getting
creative through these sensory arts and crafts, with the
carving and decorating of pumpkins. These person-centred
activities that are put on by our dedicated activities team
not only spark joy and creativity but also help residents
reminisce and engage in meaningful cognitive stimulation.
It was a heartwarming afternoon filled with smiles,
teamwork and plenty of Halloween magic.

Lowmoor Brings Halloween To Life
For Halloween, our residents at Lowmoor Nursing Home truly got into the spooky spirit by getting creative with
papier-mâché pumpkins and ghosts. This hands-on arts and crafts activity not only allowed residents to express their
imagination, but also kept them active, engaged and fully immersed in the seasonal festivities.
The afternoon was filled with laughter, conversation and plenty of artistic flair as residents worked together, shared ideas
and reminisced about past Halloweens. These sessions offer so much more than just crafting - they provide meaningful
social interaction, help maintain fine motor skills and give residents a chance to enjoy a familiar hobby in a supportive, joyful
environment.
Seeing everyone proudly display their creations and embrace the Halloween magic made it a truly memorable experience.
Pampering Sessions Bring Joy To Residents
Recently, our residents have been enjoying some well-deserved pampering, whether it’s from Katie at In Care Nail Care or
from our visiting hairdresser. They love having their nails carefully trimmed, shaped and treated, as well as indulging in a
refreshing haircut to keep their hair looking neat, stylish and full of life.
But these sessions are more than just grooming; they’re treasured moments of relaxation, conversation and connection. A
simple manicure or fresh haircut can do wonders for someone’s confidence, helping them feel uplifted, cared for and truly
special.
We’re proud to offer these personalised pampering experiences, bringing a little extra joy, comfort and sparkle to our
residents’ week.

Creating Resident Experiences
Through Activities
Melanie and Leanne’s Journey at Newgate Lodge
Our exciting journey together began in 2025, with Melanie joining the Newgate activities team in April whilst Leanne has
been a part of the Newgate Lodge team since 2023.
We have both discovered that we have a huge passion for the role, with a loving nature towards our residents and respect
for each other. We’re both very outgoing and enjoy making the residents laugh. To us, making a difference to our residents'
lives and seeing them reacting well to the sessions is the most rewarding part of the role.
Our typical day begins with greeting our residents, before we then start our thought process and planning for future events
and activities. Once the residents are settled after morning duties, we perform some fun, interactive light exercises to get
them active and ready for the day ahead.
We also love taking our residents on meaningful trips within the community. These outings help them stay connected,
engaged and active - whether it’s a visit to the local library, attending specialist dementia and elderly-focused activity
groups or enjoying days out at beautiful local landmarks and parks such as Newstead Abbey.
Our dedicated activities team carefully plans each experience, activity and event to support cognitive stimulation, reduce
feelings of isolation and promote wellbeing. We deliver person-centred one-to-one and group activities for residents who
wish to take part.
Each day, we run two group sessions offering a variety of options, including woodwork club, arts and crafts, flower
arranging, gardening and baking or cooking. We carry on with planning and other activities throughout the remainder of
the day, making sure residents have plenty of opportunities to stay stimulated, supported and involved.
We love helping hesitant or nervous residents get involved in our activities. We make our group activities fun and inclusive
by adapting them for anyone who may need extra support. While we encourage everyone to join in, we also offer
one-to-one, person-centred activities for residents who prefer not to socialise in groups.
Over time, we’ve learned to be flexible and to adapt our approach so we can better support one another and provide truly
personalised care. We want people to know that life doesn’t have to change just because they live in a care home.
We encourage and support our residents to continue enjoying the hobbies and pastimes they’ve always loved.

Lidder Care Achieves Fundraising Target
Towards Specialist Dementia Tables
Lidder Care has successfully reached its fundraising target to provide two specialist, sensory dementia tables for its
residents at Newgate Lodge Care Home and Lowmoor Nursing Home.
The interactive tables, which have been supplied by Tiny Tablet, are being used by residents as a part of the daily activities
offering at their homes. Now in use across the homes, the interactive tables are being enjoyed by residents and staff alike.
Together, the Lidder Care group have raised almost £10,000, which will fully cover the cost of both tables through a variety
of fundraising events, challenges and community initiatives. Beginning at the start of 2025, the fundraising efforts have
included everything from sponsored walks and bike rides to bake sales, signed football raffles and completing the Tough
Mudder 15K challenge.
In addition to the team’s own efforts, Lidder Care have also received generous support from local partners, including
Co-op Funeralcare and the Rotary Club, whose generous donations helped the group reach the milestone.
Manjas Lidder, Managing Director at Lidder Care said: ‘These specialist dementia tables will greatly enhance and support
the lives of our residents, providing new opportunities for engagement, creativity and meaningful interaction.
We’re incredibly grateful for the amazing support we’ve received from our local community, organisations such as
Co-op Funeralcare and the Rotary Club and our dedicated staff, residents and their families. Their generosity and
enthusiasm have helped us achieve this remarkable fundraising milestone together.’

The Tiny Tablet interactive table engages residents with immersive activities and games, stimulating memory and cognitive
function, encouraging social interaction and providing therapeutic enjoyment.
Throughout the year, Lidder Care has been at the heart of an inspiring community-wide effort, bringing together staff,
residents, families and local partners to raise funds for the Tiny Tablet initiative. The response has been both heartwarming
and overwhelming, showcasing the true spirit of togetherness across our homes and in our community.
From the children and staff at Wiggles and Giggles Nursery in Mansfield embracing a fun-filled pyjama week, transforming
the nursery into a cheerful sea of colour and creativity. Their enthusiasm shone through and their efforts raised an
impressive £254, which was generously donated to support our Tiny Tablet fundraiser.
Across Newgate Lodge and Lowmoor Nursing Home, we have also been moved by the kindness of families and friends of
our residents, including those whose loved ones are currently in our care and those who have been part of the Lidder Care
family in the past.
The Lidder Care team itself has gone above and beyond, taking on an exciting mix of challenges. From lively quiz nights and
fancy-dress walks to physical feats such as a 77-mile exercise bike ride and a Tough Mudder 10km challenge, the
commitment has been remarkable. Support even extended to our local football club, with a signed Mansfield Town FC
matchball raffled off to raise funds.
Together, these efforts reflect the strength, passion and unity of our community.

Resident Spotlight
Introducing Barbara Hendy
In June 1953, at 21, Barbara married the love of her life, Alan.
The two first met whilst working together at the Coal Board.
After getting married, Barbara left the coal board and
together with Alan’s mother, they bought and ran a corner
shop in Clay Cross for five years, managing everything from
serving customers to keeping the shelves stocked.
Eventually, the couple decided to sell the shop and make a
fresh start in Skegby. It was here that Barbara built a long
and happy life, remaining in the village for more than 60
years.

Barbara was born on 14th October 1931 in the village of
Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, into a loving family. She spent
her early childhood in Teversal, where the family had
moved to and where she grew up. She enjoyed a happy
and close-knit childhood.
Barbara had one daughter, Jane, who was born in 1962 and
who was her only child. This continued a remarkable family
tradition of only children, passed down from Barbara’s
mother, through Barbara herself, to Jane and even to her
grandchild. Barbara devoted herself to raising Jane and was
a stay-at-home mum until her daughter turned 12.
She attended Teversal Village School before continuing
her studies at Millers Academy, a secretarial college in
Mansfield. This is where Barbara trained as a Comptometer
Operator, which she did as a job in later life.

When she returned to work, her first role was in the offices
at Landers Bread in Mansfield Woodhouse. From there,
she enjoyed a variety of jobs over the years, including a
position at Vickerstaffs cards, each role adding to the many
experiences that shaped her working life.

Throughout her life, Barbara has always had a love for the
outdoors and in years gone by, was an avid gardener. Her
garden was her pride and joy; a place that she enjoyed
maintaining and caring for, which was brimming with both
beautiful flowers and tasty, fresh vegetables.

Barbara spent the 2000s navigating a challenging period,
devotedly caring for her husband with support from her
daughter, Jane and her son-in-law, Andrew. This support
continued after Alan sadly passed away and up until
Barbara went into care herself. After Alan’s passing,
Barbara continued to live independently, carrying on
with her life with resilience and grace.

She enjoyed growing her own produce, often using it to
create homemade delights such as her famous, green
bean chutney, made from beans picked fresh from her
garden. Alongside her love of gardening, Barbara found
great joy in baking. She was especially busy at Christmas
time, filling the family home with the comforting aromas
of apple pies, mince pies and other festive treats. Knitting
was another of Barbara’s favourite pastimes and she
cherished making a special jumper for her daughter every
Christmas.
She could often be spotted out and about, socialising with
Ivy, her friend and neighbour for over 50 years. The two
of them were inseparable and could often be seen
sharing stories over a cosy cup of coffee or even just
sitting and reading together. Their visits became a
cherished part of each day, full of laughter, conversation
and companionship.
Each year, the family would set off on family trips to
Cornwall. There were special days spent on the beach and
evenings rounded off with traditional Cornish pasties for
dinner. Sidmouth in Devon held a special place in their
hearts, visited year after year in the family’s own touring
caravan. Barbara was very much a home bird and was at
her happiest when making her house a warm and
welcoming place for her loved ones.
Barbara had always been known within her family as a
bit of a worrier, but towards the end of 2019, they noticed
a change. She began to hyperfocus on certain things,
became increasingly nervous and sometimes acted out
of character. Concerned for her own wellbeing, Barbara
reached out to her daughter, expressing that she wasn’t
feeling well and wanted to explore care options.
Barbara’s journey into care began four years ago, when
she moved into her first care home. Her daughter Jane had
spent time researching options online via Autumna, reading
reviews and checking CQC reports to ensure she found a
home that could offer her mother the best possible care.
Determined to find the right fit, Jane visited several care
homes in the local area, looking at facilities, atmosphere
and people. When she visited Lowmoor, she was
immediately impressed.

Proximity was important too, as they wanted a place the
family could visit easily. After living in a couple of different
homes, Barbara eventually moved to Lowmoor Nursing
Home, where her needs could be better supported.
She immediately felt the warmth and support from Carol,
Maggie and the team and her daughter Jane was greatly
relieved when her mother was offered a place.
Jane shared, “The staff at Lowmoor are absolutely
fantastic,” reflecting the support and care Barbara has
received since moving there.

Barbara continues to enjoy life at Lowmoor Nursing Home,
where she loves spending time on puzzles, relaxing with
her favourite television shows and having her hair and
nails done.

We have had a busy and exciting summer at Lidder Homecare. Firstly we would like
to extend a big welcome to our new Care Coordinator Zoie, she will be helping us with
scheduling homecare support, developing and updating care plans and compliance.
We are delighted to have her on the team and look forward to working together.
Secondly, we’re pleased to announce that Seemab Maqsood has been appointed as
our new Infection Control Champion at Lidder Home Care. Seemab will help ensure
staff remain up to date on best practices such as PPE use, hand hygiene and cleaning
protocols, providing a trusted point of guidance for our team.
This helps ensure our clients and their families feel reassured, knowing there’s a
dedicated expert focused on maintaining the highest standards of infection
prevention and safety in every aspect of care.
We are looking forward to the Christmas season ahead and a bright New Year, please

We were proud to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise vital
funds, increase awareness and bring people together in support of
the fight against cancer. We were delighted to be joined by members
of the local community, our clients and their families at our head office
in Mansfield.

appointed as our new Infection Control Champion at Lidder Home
Care. Seemab will help ensure staff remain up to date on best

providing a trusted point of guidance for our team. Our champion
ensures the highest standards of hygiene and infection prevention,
reducing risks for you and your loved ones.
Strengthening our Home Care Team
We are delighted to welcome Zoie Dawson to the Lidder Home
Care team as our new Care Coordinator. Zoie will be supporting the
coordination and delivery of care, ensuring each client receives
personalised and consistent support tailored to their needs. She will
also work closely with our care teams, offering guidance and support
to help them deliver the highest standard of care with confidence
and compassion.

Keep an eye out around Mansfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield for our
brand-new billboards proudly raising awareness of our growing Lidder
Home Care service. It’s an exciting step forward as we continue to
share our message with the local community. We have also been busy

Launching Lidder Home Care:
Delivering Compassionate Care
in Your Home
At Lidder Care, community has always been at the heart of everything we do - which is why we’re proud to have launched
our brand-new home care service in Mansfield and Ashfield.
This strong sense of community was at the centre of our official launch event for Lidder Home Care, a dedicated service
designed to support people in the comfort of their own homes across Mansfield, Ashfield and the surrounding areas.
Held at the Lidder Care head office in Mansfield Town Centre, the launch provided guests with an opportunity to explore
and learn more about the new service, meet our friendly home care team and learn more about how Lidder Home Care will
deliver person-centred care in the community.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was carried out by Steve Yemm, MP for Mansfield, with the event also hosting Cllr Jan Goold
Madam Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Chris Whitby, Deputy Mayor of Mansfield, local and regional
councillors, Anne Callaghan and Angie Jackson, local media outlets such as Mansfield 103.2 FM, representatives from the
healthcare sector and members of the local community.
The event was a wonderful celebration of partnership, progress and community spirit, marking the beginning of an exciting
new chapter for Lidder Care as we extend our care offering beyond our homes and into the heart of the community.
This service bridges the gap between care at home and residential care, offering a smoother, more supportive transition
when needed.
Steve Yemm MP said: ‘It was great to join the team at Lidder Home Care to officially open their new service here in
Mansfield. A fantastic local service supporting people to live independently with dignity and care. Wishing them every
success!’ The launch reflects Lidder Care’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for high-quality home care across
Mansfield and Ashfield.

around the home. Your encouragement and welcoming
feedback mean so much to us.

LodgeFest 2025 – A Day to Remember
This summer, Newgate Lodge Care Home once again
opened its doors for their much-loved annual Summer
Fayre — this year with a fun festival twist! Reimagined as
LodgeFest 2025, the event truly lived up to its new name,
bringing an unforgettable celebration for all to enjoy.
LodgeFest was a vibrant celebration of community and
togetherness, bringing residents, families, staff, and locals
together for a fun-filled day of music, entertainment and
shared joy at Newgate Lodge.
Surprise Family Visits From Across The Globe
One of our amazing residents recently received the most
wonderful surprise - a visit from her family who travelled all
the way from Canada! The joy and emotion on her face said
it all as she reunited with her loved ones after such a long
time apart. Moments like these truly highlight the
importance of family connection and the comfort of being
surrounded by those we cherish. We feel incredibly
honoured to provide a safe, welcoming and homely
environment.

Romanian Traditions Shine on International Day
It was International Day at Newgate Lodge, and this time
we celebrated the wonderful country of Romania! Our
dedicated kitchen team prepared a delicious Tocanita de
Vita stew, whilst Christian from Maintenance and Irena from
our Care team, both originally from Romania, brought in
authentic Romanian treats for everyone to enjoy.
It was a privilege to celebrate their culture and heritage and
a wonderful reminder of how much we value the diverse
backgrounds, traditions and stories.
Getting Creative This Spooky Season
In the spooky spirit of Halloween, our residents got messy
and creative with some pumpkin fun, carving and
decorating wonderful spooky designs and topping them off
with beautiful flower arrangements.
The activity brought plenty of laughter and smiles as
everyone embraced the festive atmosphere, showing off
their artistic flair and enjoying a delightfully frightful
afternoon together.
Furry Friends Bring Smiles to Newgate
We recently enjoyed a wonderful visit from our friends at
Vets For Pets, who brought along the beautiful dogs,
Barnaby and Gunner, to spend some time with our
residents. Their wagging tails and gentle natures brought
so much joy to our residents and staff, filling the home with
smiles and laughter. Pet therapy is such an important part
of life here at Newgate Lodge — it helps to reduce stress
and anxiety, encourages social interaction and lifts
everyone’s spirits.
World Art Day Inspires Residents’ Creative Spirit
For World Art Day, some of our residents have been getting
creative by taking part in relaxing mindfulness art therapy
sessions. They also enjoyed designing and decorating
trinket boxes to display in their bedrooms, expressing their
individuality through colour and creativity. These sessions
are not only a wonderful way for residents to explore their
artistic side, but also a chance to socialise, share stories
and keep alive the person-centred interests they’ve enjoyed
throughout their lives.

Supporting Our Everyday Heroes
On Friday 19th September, Lowmoor Nursing Home
proudly hosted its first complimentary breakfast event for
Blue Light Card holders. The occasion was a wonderful
opportunity to celebrate the incredible work of our blue
light heroes through a special Blue Light Breakfast at
Lowmoor Nursing Home. It was a fantastic morning
dedicated to those who serve, protect and care for our
communities every day.
The event warmly welcomed members from across the
emergency services, including local ambulance workers
and fire and rescue teams, who joined us to enjoy good
food, great company and a well-deserved moment of
appreciation and rest.
Guests were treated to a hearty, complimentary breakfast
featuring freshly prepared bacon and sausage cobs
created by our dedicated kitchen team, alongside warming
hot drinks, making it the perfect start to the busy day. The
morning was filled with friendly conversation, smiles and a
wonderful sense of community spirit.
It was our way of saying thank you for their tireless
dedication, bravery and the vital support they provide to
us all day to day. It was a small yet mighty gesture that
reflected Lidder Care’s heartfelt appreciation for the
incredible individuals who proudly serve our communities
and hold the Blue Light Card.
We were also delighted to extend this gesture of
appreciation to our own hardworking team at Lowmoor
Nursing Home, who continue to provide exceptional,
compassionate care to our residents each and every day.
The breakfast was enjoyed by everyone who attended
and we felt truly privileged to bring together and provide a
small, impactful gesture for our staff and local heroes.

Chef Recipe
Ingredients:
• 1 lb self-raising flour
• 1 lb margarine
• 1 lb sugar
• 9 eggs
• 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
• 2 teaspoons orange essence
Chocolate Orange Cake
Method
1. Whip Up the Magic
Pop your margarine and sugar into a large mixing bowl and whisk until light and fluffy. Give it a good 5 minutes - this is
where the magic happens.
2. Egg Time!
Crack in the eggs and whisk again until everything comes together in a smooth, silky mixture.
3. Flour Power
Add your self-raising flour and keep whisking for another 5 minutes. Watch as your batter becomes thick, creamy and
ready for its chocolate-orange transformation.
4. Chocolate Orange Delight
Sprinkle in the cocoa powder and pour in the orange essence. Mix until it is all combined.
5. Tray Time
Line your baking tray, then pour in the mixture, smoothing it out to make it even.
6. Bake to Perfection
Pop into the oven on Gas Mark 5 or 6 and bake for around 50 minutes - your kitchen will soon smell like pure
chocolate-orange heaven.
7. Cool, Slice & Enjoy
Once baked, let it cool slightly before slicing into generous pieces. Then serve, share and enjoy with eithert cream,
ice cream or custard!

Dementia affects everyone differently, making how we talk with a loved one who has the condition incredibly important.
Adapting your communication to their needs is essential. Listen attentively, be mindful of what you say and how you say it,
and remember that meaningful connection can happen even without lots of words.
Preparing the Environment
Creating the right environment and understanding your
loved one’s needs are the first steps towards
meaningful conversations when someone has
dementia. Think of it like preparing the ground before
planting seeds. A little careful attention goes a long way
in helping your communication blossom.
Choose a quiet, calm and well-lit space with minimal
distractions. Turn off the TV or radio and make sure
your loved one is comfortable. Meeting basic needs
such as hunger, thirst or pain helps them focus. You
may also notice times of day when they are more alert -
these can be the best moments for conversation.
Communicating Thoughtfully
How you speak to your loved one greatly influences their
experience and ability to participate in the conversation. Use
clear language, maintain a gentle tone, and focus on fostering
a sense of connection and respect. Use short, clear sentences
and speak at a slower pace. Avoid overwhelming them with
too many questions; instead, offer simple choices. Always
speak respectfully and include them in conversations to help
them feel valued and involved.
Active Listening
Communicating with someone who has dementia goes
beyond simply hearing their words. It requires actively
paying attention to the full range of how they express
themselves. Focus on understanding their underlying
feelings and needs, and always respond with patience
and empathy.
Give your full attention. Maintain gentle eye contact and
watch for non-verbal cues like tone, expression
and posture, which often reveal emotions more clearly
than words. Be patient, allow extra time for responses,
and offer reassurance through nods and smiles. If
you're unsure what they mean, gently rephrase or
ask for clarification.

Dealing with Frustration and Challenges
Communicating with someone who has dementia can be rewarding but also challenging. Remember that difficult moments
are a symptom of the condition — not intentional behaviour. When challenges arise, gentle redirection and distraction can
help. If your loved one becomes fixated on a worry, acknowledge their feelings and guide them towards something
soothing, such as listening to music or looking at old photos. Sometimes stepping away briefly allows both of you to reset
and reduces tension. It’s also essential to look after yourself. Caring for someone with dementia can be emotionally and
physically demanding. Reaching out for help ensures you can continue providing the best possible care.
Bringing it All Together: Tips for Meaningful Communication
Communicating with a loved one with dementia requires adapting how you connect. Patience, empathy, and a willingness to
shift your communication style are all key to fostering understanding and maintaining a sense of closeness.
Remember, even on the most challenging days, moments of connection are still possible. Celebrate those moments,
continue to find new ways to connect and don’t forget to seek support for yourself along the way.
