The Very

First Easter

THIS BOOK BELONGS TO

Snuggled in his stable

on a beautiful Spring Day,

Was a happy little donkey

lying lazily in the hay.

He was listening to the children

as they laughed and ran around,

Searching here and searching there,

in the trees and on the ground.

Suddenly, an excited squeal,

‘What was that held in the air?’

It was the shiniest thing you have ever seen,

and there were more hidden everywhere.

On and on the children searched

until their baskets were overflowing-

With chocolate foil covered Easter Eggs,

in the sunshine each one glowing.

Hearing the sound of laughter,

and unable to stay away,

Mouse and his Bug Buddies needed

to find out about this day.

‘Why the chittering and chattering?’

‘Why so much excitement all around?’

So out they came scurrying and squeaking,

an answer needed

to be found.

Gently Donkey turned his head,

and smiling said,

“I know, Let me tell you all

the story of that day so long ago.”

All ears and tails and whiskers

our friends sat amongst the hay,

Eager now to listen to Donkey’s

very exciting tale.

“Do you remember

how Granny told

you of the very

first Christmas

Day,

Of a baby born in Bethlehem

lying in a manger’s hay?

He was so special

Angels sang to Him,

Wise Men came

from far away,

And Shepherds hurried from

the hillside to welcome

Christ Jesus born that day.

Well, that baby soon

became a man, and with

children upon His knee,

He would tell them

of a Shepherd

who loved His

little ones,

even you

and me.

He would heal the sick,

the lame, the blind,

He was so loving

that in the end-

So many would

come to follow

Him, He became

their Saviour

and Best

Friend.

One day in a place called Jerusalem

crowds were gathering just to see,

This wonderful Man called Jesus;

someone called Zacchaeus even climbed a tree.

But just before He entered

Jesus instructed His friends to go-

To a village, to fetch a little donkey

tied to a wall:

‘How did He know?’

They brought the donkey to Him,

and once seated He moved so slow-

Through the crowds, as they shouted ‘HOSANNA!’

whilst waving palm leaves to and fro.

With his head held high he carried his Master

proudly through the crowd,

To the sounds of Cheering, the sounds of Praise,

the shouts of Joy so very loud.

Little bugs and a mouse were watching

from the trees and on the ground,

Then scurrying closer followed Donkey,

creeping silently without a sound.

‘But what happened?’

Just one week later

those who had cheered

now shouted out,

‘AWAY WITH HIM!’

as they booed and cried.

‘What was that all

about?’

Little Donkey, Bugs and Mouse just stood

and watched this terrible scene unfold,

As their Master and Friend Christ Jesus was beaten,

and then was made to hold-

A Cross, which was placed upon His back

which He dragged to a hill called Calvary,

Where He was hung. The King of Kings

would give His life to set all free.

As silently everyone

looked on,

they suddenly heard

the words He said,

‘IT IS FINISHED!’

and with that the sky grew dark,

there was silence, their friend was dead.

Frightened, Donkey, Bugs and Mouse

quickly raced away,

Not knowing what had happened,

‘Why had He had to leave in such a way?’

Everyone was so, so sad,

even Jesus’ friends they

tried to hide,

Until suddenly

three days later

came the Heavenly Cry,

‘HE’S NOT INSIDE!’

Angels were singing,

Heaven’s bells ringing,

Trumpets began to blow-

Declaring:

‘THE GRAVE IS BARE,

JESUS IS NOT THERE,

HE IS ALIVE!

LET EVERYONE KNOW!’

Hearing that amazing news

with Mouse and Bugs upon his back,

Little Donkey raced so quickly

along that rugged, winding track.

And there it was,

the stone had rolled away,

‘JESUS HAD RISEN FROM THE DEAD!’,

” HALLELUJAH’S

now were ringing out

Those tears had changed to joy instead.

That was the Very First Easter

For when Jesus ‘rose He gave new birth-

To everyone who would receive Him,

as their Saviour upon this earth.”

”Oh thank you, thank you Donkey,

now we understand,

It is time for us to celebrate.

Something special should be planned.

Suddenly, a very loud

‘Cluck! Cluck! Cluck!’

followed by

‘Cheep! Cheep!

Cheep! Cheep!

Cheep!’

Mother Hen so very excited,

as from her eggs five chicks did peep.

“Hooray! Hooray!” yelled everyone,

“On this Special Easter Morn,

Right here in our very own stable

baby chicks have just been born.”

Cheep!

Cheep!

Cheep!

Cheep!

Cheep!

Cheep!

Bugs and Mouse were so excited

that they began to sing and dance and shout,

Whirling and twirling happily

for they now knew what Easter was all about.

A little rabbit who had heard the noise

and was hopping by that way,

Popped in and joined with his little friends

celebrating this special day.

With so much joy in the stable

and with sounds of laughter filling the air,

With the children still egg hunting,

Donkey had one more thing to share.

“Do you remember how King Jesus chose

a little donkey to ride upon?

And how he carried his Master through

Jerusalem with the crowds all looking on.

Well, on that day donkeys became special,

and there is a way that you can tell,

That is by the Cross you will see upon myback,

and upon every donkey’s back as well.”

"WOW!" they all squealed,

"That's Amazing!

What an Awesome, Fantastic Way,

To Remind Everybody Everywhere of

'THE VERY FIRST

EASTER DAY'

Happy Easter

Everyone!
