PROGRAM NOTE
Written in memory of a beloved educator, Winks is a bright, pointillistic showpiece for
developing wind bands that moves tiny “wink”-like ideas across the ensemble. Clear,
transparent scoring and motivic exchanges drive the opening, before a lyrical cantabile
middle section widens the color palette and a brief saxophone solo pays homage to the
jazz roots of the educator who inspired its creation.
