President’s Remarks
Dear Friends,
This year at Cedarcrest has been defined by a single, driving
question: How do we build a future that is as resilient
as the children, young adults, and families we serve?
Reflecting on the past twelve months, the answer lies in
our commitment to “walking the walk”—making tangible
investments that strengthen our foundation and prioritize
the needs of the children and their families. Guided by
our strategic plan, our focus has been clear: to take
exceptional care of the children, take exceptional care
of the staff, and be exceptional stewards of our nonprofit
business. We are not just maintaining a standard of care;
we are actively elevating it.
Resilience in care means constantly adapting to meet
new challenges. This year, we forged a new, ongoing
agreement with Dartmouth Health Children’s, a partnership
designed to promote best practices, continuity
of care, and advanced training. This collaboration has
already launched ongoing clinical practice skills days,
bringing experts from both teams together to sharpen
our capabilities. We also solidified our internal leadership
to ensure our services remain robust, welcoming accomplished
leaders Buffy Meliment as our Director of Nursing
and Bethaney LaClair as Director of Advancement earlier
this year.
We also celebrate a significant milestone for Kristin
Targett. After more than 15 years of dedicated full-time
service, Kristin is transitioning to a new chapter. While
she will remain with us in a part-time leadership capacity,
she has recently been named Execuitive Director of the
Pediatric Complex Care Association. This important
appointment places a Cedarcrest leader at the helm of
our national trade association, ensuring that our values
and expertise help shape the future of complex care
across the country.
Our Mission
Cedarcrest enriches the lives of children with
complex medical and developmental needs,
supports their families, and collaborates with
other community providers to build
a continuum of care.
Beyond personnel, this year we invested in the tools
of our trade. We deployed organization-owned mobile
devices to better capture and share moments with
families, and implemented new iPads for streamlined
charting. To support the physical comfort and development
of our residents, we acquired new adaptive bikes
as well as specialized positioning equipment and furniture
to support posture and relaxation.
We have long believed that you cannot have a resilient
organization without a resilient workforce. This year,
we continued to invest in our team, demonstrating that
commitment through consistent action. We successfully
restructured nursing shifts to 12-hour schedules to support
better work-life balance and implemented continued
pay and benefit enhancements, including a commitment
to regular cost-of-living adjustments. The results speak
for themselves: decreased staff turnover and lower
vacancy rates. By adding necessary positions across
Nursing, Education, Environmental Services, and Facilities,
we are building a culture where talent is cultivated
and where staff have the resources they need to focus
on what matters most: the children.
To ensure this work endures, we also turned our focus
to the long-term stewardship of our physical resources.
This year, we saw the installation of our new solar array
on land we purchased from the City of Keene. This
project—a dynamic partnership with the City, ReVision
Energy, and private investors—reduces our carbon
footprint and locks in long-term energy savings. Further
securing our future, we finalized the purchase of an
additional 7.5 acres adjacent to our property. While
we have no immediate plans for development, holding
this land ensures we have the space to adapt to future
needs—whether that means additional outdoor spaces
for the children, parking for our growing staff, or new
opportunities to meet community demand.

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS, CONT.
Finally, we know that excellent care must be matched by powerful advocacy. We were
honored to welcome Senator Maggie Hassan to Cedarcrest, giving her a firsthand look
at the intersection of medical complexity and human potential. We are also preparing
for upcoming visits from Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander and Governor Kelly Ayotte,
ensuring that as leadership changes in Concord and Washington, the families of
Cedarcrest remain visible and valued.
None of this progress would be possible without the dedication of our Board of Trustees,
Advisory Council, staff, residents, students, families, volunteers, donors, and community
partners. Your guidance, generosity, and belief in our mission strengthen Cedarcrest at
every level. To each of you I extend my deepest gratitude.
As we look to the future, we are clear-eyed about the landscape before us. We recognize
the uncertainty in the federal political climate and the potential funding hurdles
facing public services. While our current foundation is solid, we are not complacent.
We anticipate a demanding road ahead, but because of the strategic groundwork we
have laid—in financial stewardship, staff stability, and high-level advocacy—Cedarcrest
is well-positioned to navigate these headwinds.
Thank you for your belief in our mission, and for standing with us as we build a resilient
future for every child we serve.
With gratitude,
Jay Hayston President & CEO

RESILIENCE
Trustee Chair’s Remarks
As we close out another Board year at Cedarcrest, I am
reminded of the extraordinary dedication that defines
this organization. Every day, our talented staff bring
skill, compassion, and determination to their work;
supporting children and young adults whose courage
and resilience inspire us all. It has been a privilege to
witness the progress made this year and the steady advancement toward the
goals of our strategic plan.
Cedarcrest is fortunate to have a strong and capable leadership team
guiding the way forward. Their insight, professionalism, and commitment
have positioned the organization for continued growth, even as the broader
political and healthcare landscape presents increasing challenges. The Board
of Trustees and Advisory Council remain deeply committed to supporting this
leadership, ensuring Cedarcrest has the resources, stability, and advocacy
necessary to uphold its mission now and into the future.
This year, we were delighted to welcome new staff throughout the organization,
individuals who have quickly become part of the fabric of Cedarcrest.
Their energy, expertise, and dedication help sustain the culture of excellence
that makes Cedarcrest such a special place. Their contributions, alongside
those of our seasoned team members, will continue to strengthen our care,
programs, and community in meaningful ways.
We recognize that the current political climate brings uncertainty, particularly
in areas that directly affect the children and families we serve. We will continue
to advocate, to educate policymakers, and to stand firmly in support of
those who rely on us. Together we will ensure that Cedarcrest remains strong
and steadfast in its commitment to provide exceptional care, giving every
child the opportunity to live, learn, and thrive.
This year also brought exciting progress in our efforts to ensure long-term
sustainability, highlighted by the installation of Cedarcrest’s new solar array.
This important project will generate significant cost savings in the years
ahead, allowing more of our resources to directly support the children,
families, and programs at the heart of our mission. It is a powerful example
of how thoughtful stewardship can fuel innovation and strengthen our future.
As we continue making strong progress toward our strategic plan goals, the
Board remains energized by what lies ahead. Cedarcrest is poised to continue
defining excellence in pediatric complex care, leading with compassion,
advancing with purpose, and serving with unwavering commitment.
On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, thank you for your generosity,
your belief in our work, and your partnership. Your support ensures that
Cedarcrest can continue to meet the needs of the children and families
who depend on us every day.

Building Expertise Together:
Cedarcrest and Dartmouth Health Children’s
Strengthen Clinical Collaboration
Over the past several months, Cedarcrest has been proud to host
a series of Skills Clinics in partnership with Dartmouth Health
Children’s. These sessions have offered valuable opportunities for
shared learning, hands-on practice, and meaningful collaboration
between two teams dedicated to exceptional pediatric complex care.
During each clinic, Cedarcrest nurses, therapists, and direct care
staff demonstrated the expertise and compassion that define their
daily work—sharing knowledge, refining skills, and engaging in
scenario-based clinical practice. The Dartmouth team brought
fresh perspectives and innovative approaches, sparking productive
discussion, and enhancing the exchange of best practices.
This collaboration has strengthened clinical skills across both
organizations and reinforced a culture of continuous learning.
We are deeply grateful to Dartmouth Health Children’s for their
partnership, and to our Cedarcrest staff for their professionalism,
curiosity, and commitment. These clinics highlight the power of
teamwork in advancing excellence and improving care for the
children and young adults we serve.

Powering Possibility: Cedarcrest’s Solar Array Strengthens Our Future
For Cedarcrest, the solar array is more than an energy
project, it is an investment in our mission. The 560-panel
system is expected to generate over 383,000 kWh of
clean energy annually, offsetting approximately 376,000
pounds of CO₂ emissions each year.
As President & CEO Jay Hayston shared at the ribbon
cutting, “Every dollar we save on energy is a dollar that
remains where it belongs—supporting our programs,
our staff, and the children we serve.” Senator Donovan
Fenton echoed this impact, emphasizing how clean,
resilient energy strengthens Cedarcrest’s ability to
focus on children, families, and dedicated staff.

& CEO, Jim Yannizze, Director of Finance, State Senator Donovan Fenton,
John Hamler, Facilities Manager
This year, Cedarcrest took an important step toward
long-term sustainability with the installation of a new
333kW ground-mounted solar array. In November, we
celebrated this milestone at a ribbon cutting ceremony
with the City of Keene, State Senator Donovan Fenton,
our project partners at ReVision Energy, and Bob King,
whose support and expertise were essential in bringing
this initiative to life. We extend our sincere thanks to all
who contributed to this effort.
This project also highlights the power of strong partnerships.
The City of Keene’s commitment to renewable
energy, ReVision Energy’s expertise, and Bob King’s
guidance all played vital roles. Their collaboration
reflects the broader community support that sustains
Cedarcrest’s work every day.
The solar array will serve Cedarcrest for decades to
come, reinforcing our financial stability, reducing our
environmental footprint, and helping ensure that the
children and families we support continue to have
access to the exceptional care they deserve.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make
this vision a reality.

Wheels & Wonder: A Campaign Fueled by Generosity
This year’s Wheels & Wonder campaign was an inspiring success, thanks to
the incredible generosity of our community and partners. Centered around
the belief that mobility opens doors to joy, exploration, and independence,
the campaign raised vital funds for Cedarcrest’s Children’s Special Equipment
Fund, a resource that helps ensure every child has access to the adaptive
bikes, mobility equipment, and specialized tools they need to thrive.
From start to finish, the campaign was powered by compassion for and
commitment to the children and young adults we serve, and the work we do.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated, shared our message, or
championed this effort. A special thank-you goes to our key supporters, C&S
Wholesalers, The Kiwanis Club of Keene, and the Keene Elm City Rotary Club,
whose leadership and generosity helped bring the campaign to new heights.
Because of you, more children will experience the joy of movement, the thrill
of exploration, and the confidence that comes from new opportunities for independence.
Thank you for helping us bring more wheels, and more wonder,
into the lives of the children at Cedarcrest.
