Dropping kilos, underwater adventures and half a dozen thrillers ...

Jean Napier Hattingh says ever since

she can remember, she’s been blessed

with a spirit of adventure. Born with a

form of hip dysplasia, and growing up

on a farm in the Western Cape, she was,

she says, extremely curious and quite

wild. She remembers being taught

to swim at four, first in a pool, then

the farm dam, and fishing with her

dad in a fibreglass dinghy, and later in

her uncle’s larger boat on the Cuanza

River in Angola. And then her first time

snorkelling in the Red Sea. Against

the Tide is her story ... an adventurous

one, of the challenges of breaking

barriers in the male-dominated world

of spearfishing, of thrilling underwater

hunts, and of resilience against physical

danger and societal biases. Holder of

many South African and Australian

records, it’s a brilliant read for anyone

who’s interested in adventure, diving,

PROMOTION

For the love of treasure

Those antique gems you don’t use … it may be worth exploring their value.

Antiques and Coins can be trusted for expert appraisals and valuations.

Open a drawer. Check the back of that long-unopened

cabinet. Somewhere between old letters and tangled chains,

there may be a treasure you haven’t thought about in years.

Perhaps it’s the Denco pocket watch your grandpa gave you

on your eighteenth birthday, or that vintage gold bracelet

that once belonged to Aunt Diane, which you accidentally

broke the last time you wore it. Often, these vintage

objects can open a Pandora’s box of feelings – a mental

album of fond memories, sentimental moments, or even

decades-old resentment.

As much as “things” can be an extension of ourselves, they

can also mean a new beginning for something else. Selling

valuables might be a difficult decision, but perhaps the

greatest worth of something is what it allows you to do

next … financial breathing room. Relief from clutter. A longpostponed

trip. Or simply some peace of mind.

But one thing is certain … parting with valuable pieces is

often a decision that is long-weighed and complex. And

when the day comes that you do decide to sell, you want

expert appraisals and trusted valuations. You want to know –

am I getting a fair price? Can I trust the buyer/dealer?

A reputable buyer-and-seller business understands this

hesitation and respects it. That’s why transparency matters.

Clear testing. Accurate weighing. Real-time pricing and

Devon Alberts next to the Two Bulls by Sydney Kumalo

bronze sculpture.

payments. No games, just honest and straightforward offers.

Meeting these expectations daily are modern-day treasure

hunters, Rivac and Devon Alberts. This sibling duo is made

up of antique fanatics whose hobby turned into a business

– Antiques and Coins. They have been professionally and

efficiently dealing with people’s valued items for more than

a decade.

Rivac started the business in 2010. “Antiques and Coins

was born from a profound love for history,” says Devon

– who is the current director. She and her brother, Rivac,

are both avid collectors of all things old, each with their

own large collection of various SAAND-graded coins, war

medals, books, furniture, record players, crystal crockery,

vintage weapons, the list goes on. They’re essentially SA’s

experts of the Antique Roadshow, just without the scripts

and cameras – and, no surprise here, it’s one of Devon’s

best-loved television shows.

Some of her personal prized collection pieces include an

R. Lalique bowl made by a Frenchman in the 1900s. “I also

adore my antique gold diamond ring I bought from a client

years ago and decided to add to my personal collection. It’s

a piece I will never melt down or change. I absolutely love

Victorian pieces. They always tell a story.”

Apart from being surrounded by antiques – their homes

can attest – there is nothing they love more than having

personal interactions with their clients. While their head

offices for both Antiques and Coins as well as We Buy Gold

(of which Rivac is the director) are situated in the same

building in Garsfontein, Pretoria – they travel all over the

country to see clients.

“Over the years we have built a trusted bond with most

retirement homes across South Africa. We arrange an

appointment through the home’s management channels

and evaluate and appraise the residents’ prized pieces in the

comfort of their familiar surroundings. This makes the whole

process safe, simple, and efficient for everyone,” says Devon.

“Building meaningful relationships with our clients is what I

love most about my work. I still have clients from years back

wishing me Merry Christmas each year and bringing me

muffins when I visit their retirement estate.”

Paired with a long, long list of certifications and specialised

experience, they also use top-notch equipment to check

coin authenticity, conduct currency validations, perform

metal analysis, and measure precious stones and metals,

among others. Ensuring that you, and your valued items,

are in the very best hands!

Their business thrives on keeping the present and past

in constant touch. And perhaps most importantly, they

understand the substance of remembering – this is not only

their line of work, but also their life’s quest.

Meet Bloem’s

green fingers

Here, we speak to some of Bloem’s greatest gardeners about their expertise,

passion, and what makes their green thumbs thrive.

Grounded in a lifelong appreciation for nature,

nursery owner Janet Müller from Groen Aarde

reflects on how gardening has evolved into a

source of peace, purpose, and connection.

What inspired you to start gardening, and what keeps your

passion for it alive today?

A passion and love for nature! It keeps me calm, and it is

also a physically active lifestyle. I also enjoy giving advice to

others to help them create a beautiful and tranquil garden.

What’s your top tip for Bloemfontein gardeners looking

to grow healthy, thriving plants – whether indoors, in a

garden, or even in small spaces?

Make sure your soil is well-drained. Keep fertilising and

protect your plants in winter.

If you could only grow one plant for the rest of your life,

what would it be and why?

I would choose clivias, as they produce the most beautiful

flowers.

How do you involve family, friends, or the community in

your gardening projects?

By making time to visit their homes or businesses and

advising them on what and where to plant. I also offer

planting or landscaping services for small spaces.

What’s the biggest plant myth you wish people would stop

believing?

That plants can keep away bad spirits or bring you money.

What’s the most rewarding part of managing a nursery?

Seeing new blossoms and receiving pictures from clients of

how beautifully their plants are growing.

From seed to sanctuary, Risna Opperman has

turned her lifelong love for plants into Urth

– a flourishing Bloemfontein space rooted in

patience, passion, and purpose.

What inspired you to start gardening, and what keeps

your passion for it alive today?

Since I was a little girl, I’ve been intrigued by plants.

The magic of seeing a seed sprout, new leaves unfurl,

or flowers bloom – and the way colours shift with the

seasons – still amazes me every day. That sense of

renewal keeps my passion alive.

If you could only grow one plant for the rest of your life,

what would it be and why?

Fruit trees – I’m enthralled by them. I have a special

affinity for pomegranates and olives, both for their

beauty and the nourishment they give. And of course

roses – I adore them.

What’s been harder to grow – the plants or the business?

They’re very alike. Gardening has seasons, just like

business. Both need nurturing, attention, and focus

to establish. You must adapt to changes – whether it’s

customer tastes or seasonal shifts. And both remind you

to stay humble, because you can’t control everything,

but you can shape and nurture growth.

What plant do you secretly relate to on tough days? And

why?

The pomegranate – tough on the outside, yet inside

it holds hundreds of vibrant seeds. It reminds me that

even on hard days, hidden richness and resilience are

waiting to be shared.

10 Get It Bloemfontein March 2026 getitmagazine.co.za/bloemfontein

What inspired you to start gardening, and what keeps your

passion for it alive today?

My love for gardening started very early. Growing up

in Bethlehem, farming wasn’t just a concept – it was a

way of life. Being close to the land taught me patience,

responsibility, and the wonder of watching something

grow from a tiny seed into food or beauty. What keeps that

passion alive today is seeing how gardening and agriculture

can still change lives, whether it’s a household becoming

food secure or a small-scale farmer turning a passion into a

sustainable business.

If you could only grow one plant for the rest of your life,

what would it be and why?

Spinach. It’s versatile, nutritious, fast-growing, and forgiving

– perfect for both beginners and experienced growers. It

thrives in gardens, containers, and small spaces, and offers

continuous harvests. For me, spinach represents practicality

and resilience, two values that are essential in agriculture.

How do you involve family, friends or the community in

your gardening projects?

Gardening is far more powerful when it’s shared. I involve

family and friends by turning it into a learning experience

– planting together, sharing harvests, and exchanging

knowledge. At a community level, I focus on training,

mentorship, and demonstration gardens. When people see

what’s possible with their own hands, they become invested

and proud of the process.

You often speak about agriculture as a movement rather

than just a job. What does that mindset mean in practice,

and how do you hope it will reshape the future of farming

in South Africa?

Seeing agriculture as a movement means recognising

its power beyond profit. It’s about dignity, food security,

employment, and nation-building. In practice, it means

collaboration, innovation, and inclusion. I hope this mindset

inspires a new generation of farmers who are businessminded,

environmentally conscious, and socially driven

– reshaping South African agriculture into a more inclusive

and sustainable sector.

getitmagazine.co.za/bloemfontein

Rooted in a

lifelong connection

to the land,

founder and CEO of

Agricast Advisory

Services Kgomotso

Ranchu explores

how gardening

and agriculture

can drive food

security, economic

empowerment,

and sustainable

livelihoods.

Rooted in generations of green fingers, Pretty

Gardens Centre manager Manie Kotzé has

turned a childhood love of plants into a lifetime

of helping Bloemfontein gardens thrive.

What inspired you to start gardening, and what keeps

your passion for it alive today?

I was inspired to start gardening by my grandmother,

who taught me to love plants and enjoy caring for

them. Watching her work in the garden and learning

from her made gardening feel special and meaningful

to me. That early influence planted the seed for my own

journey with plants.

What keeps my passion alive today is the joy and peace

gardening still brings me, along with the satisfaction of

seeing things grow and thrive. It reminds me of those

moments with my grandmother and motivates me to

keep learning, experimenting, and sharing the beauty of

plants with others.

What’s the most dramatic plant you’ve ever had to deal

with?

The fiddle-leaf fig, which seems perfectly fine one week

and then drops half its leaves the next, sometimes for

no discernible reason. It’s like a plant diva in full tantrum

mode – very picky about light, water, and humidity –

and will quickly show dramatic signs when not happy.

What’s the biggest plant myth you wish people would

stop believing?

One of the biggest myths is that indoor plants need to

be watered on a strict schedule, when in reality they

should be watered based on soil moisture and the

specific plant’s needs.

What’s the most rewarding part of managing a nursery?

Seeing people connect with plants and leave feeling

inspired and confident to grow something themselves.

I get to combine my love of plants with my love for

people by sharing practical advice, helping customers

choose the right plants, and watching their gardens

succeed. Knowing that my knowledge makes a real

difference in someone’s home or community garden,

brings daily purpose and satisfaction.

NATURAL SIMPLICITY

for body, mind and home

JUSTBLiSS began in a winter in Bloemfontein — a season where I felt

completely lost. My garden was withering, and so was I. But as I watched the

plants fade, I realised something: when we stop caring — for ourselves or for

nature — everything around us begins to fade too.

The First Step Back

I didn’t set out with a business plan. I started with a simple bar of soap —

made with real, natural ingredients, not chemicals or fillers. And in the middle of

Bloemfontein’s dry air, something shifted: my skin felt nourished for the first time in

ages. Not tight. Not flaky. Just… right.

That bar led to the Rooibos Tea Body Butter, which melted into my skin and fed it

like nothing else ever had. That’s when I realised:

th is was real food for th e skin.

Discovering Hemp Seed Oil

We choose real food to nourish our bodies — vegetables, herbs, plants grown

by nature. So why not feed our skin, hair, and homes with the same care?

That’s when I discovered the transformative power of hemp seed oil, which

has since become the heart of JUSTBLiSS.

Today, JUSTBLiSS is South Africa’s ONLY hemp seed oil lifestyle brand.

Chosen for its omega-rich profile and ability to soothe, heal, and restore

balance, hemp seed oil is our signature ingredient — featured in 95% of our

handcrafted formulations.

From One Bar to a Lifestyle

What began as a single bar of soap has grown into a complete natural lifestyle.

Today, JUSTBLiSS creates handmade, plant-based solutions for every part of your

life — from solid shampoo bars and magnesium balms to nourishing body butters,

facial oils, therapeutic balms, oral care, pamper candles, gentle home care, kitchen

essentials, and holistic wellness remedies.

From kitchen to bathroom, bedroom to body — we’re here to help you

transform your entire routine naturally, one product at a time.

Our Promise

Handcrafted in Bloemfontein with

complete ingredient transparency, our

promise is simple: every product is made

to be honest, effective, and sustainable.

100% natural. Vegan. Cruelty-free. Carrying

THE OSEM BOWL

Gather what is available. Prepare with care. Bring it together.

Compiled by: GYPSEENIA LION

Like a garden at the height of its season, this bowl is

made up of many small offerings, each one grown,

gathered, or prepared in its own time. The Osem Bowl

is an invitation to slow down and notice what is ready,

rather than reaching for what is prescribed.

There are no strict rules here, only rhythm and

intuition. A handful of greens, a scoop of grains, a

spoon of something hearty, a splash of brightness.

Brought together, these simple elements create

a meal that is grounding, nourishing, and quietly

abundant, a reflection of the way food, like gardening,

rewards presence and care.

The Osem Bowl is not about precision, but about

attention. Ingredients are prepared separately, then

combined in a way that feels balanced and intuitive.

The result is a meal that is flexible, nourishing, and

suited to everyday cooking.

How this recipe works:

This bowl follows a simple rhythm for ease: begin with

a base, add vegetables and protein, build flavour, and

finish with a dressing, adjusting each step according

to what is available.

Building the bowl

These ingredients are here to inspire and guide you,

but they’re by no means the only options.

The base

Choose one – the foundation of the bowl:

bulgar wheat | basmati rice | millet | veggie pasta |

lettuce

“The base provides structure. It can be warm or fresh,

depending on the season. Usually made up of grains,

legumes, or leafy greens. This layer grounds the bowl

and carries the flavours of everything added on top.”

The vegetables

Choose two to five for seasonal colour and texture:

Cooked/roasted: carrots, sweetcorn, pumpkin

Fresh: tomatoes, cucumber, bell peppers, carrots

Steamed: broccoli, cauliflower

“The vegetables form the heart of the bowl. A mix

of roasted, fresh, or lightly cooked vegetables adds

contrast in colour, texture, and flavour.”

The protein

Choose one to make it satisfying:

quinoa | chickpeas | lentils | beans | textured pea

protein | chicken | tuna

“The protein adds substance, turning the bowl

into a complete, nourishing meal.”

The flavour

Small additions that lift the bowl:

Roasted seeds: sunflower |

pumpkin | sesame | mix

Pickles: gherkins |

beetroot | olives |

capers

Fresh herbs: basil |

mint | parsley

“The flavour

comes from the

smaller details.

Herbs, pickles,

and small extras

add brightness and

depth, allowing

simple ingredients to

shine.”

The dressing

Choose one to bring

everything together:

Simple dressing: olive oil,

lemon juice & salt

Tahini dressing: combine tahini,

lemon juice, salt & pepper, then

add water for a runnier consistency.

Basil pesto mayo: combine basil pesto

and mayonnaise, with a dash of plain

yoghurt, adjusting each to taste.

Tzatziki: combine plain yoghurt, lemon juice,

salt & chopped fresh mint.

“The dressing ties the bowl together. A simple

combination of oil, acid, and seasoning is often

enough, with tasting and adjusting encouraged until

the bowl feels balanced and complete.”

You’ll find many of these ingredients at The Osem Shop, along with easy, step-by-step guides on their website

for preparing each part of the bowl. www.osemshop.co.za

In today’s fast-paced world, the right to rest, restore, and renew is not a luxury; it is a

necessity. Our lives are driven by deadlines and targets, often resulting in compromising our

health and well-being, both physically and mentally.

On a physical level we are more aware of

ways to restore and renew. But often we

neglect or overlook the ways in which

we need to restore and renew ourselves

mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Just as the body cannot function

without sleep, the inner being cannot

thrive without moments of stillness

and renewal. When we take time to

consciously breathe and slow the mind,

choosing thoughts that are positive

and calming, we feel mental ease that

extends into the body itself. Sometimes

this relief is immediate, while at other

times it appears gradually, improving our

overall health. The connection between

body and mind is profound. Decades of

research has shown that many illnesses

are psychosomatic and so nurturing

the mind directly improves the physical

well-being.

If we observe our thoughts, we notice

how easily the world floods into our

minds, creating stress. External events are

only triggers; it is our mental response

that produces worry, anxiety, and fear.

While it may seem that we have no

control over these reactions, consistently

taking time out, especially at the start of

the day, helps us realign our thoughts

with gratitude and compassion. This shift

changes how we feel and how we engage

with others.

Such thoughts are not only positive

but powerful. They enable us to choose

our responses rather than reacting

impulsively to circumstances. Instead of

being drained by emotions, we cultivate

resilience and calm. Renewal does not

The right to

rest, restore, renew

require waiting for a holiday. Small daily

steps, moments of reflection on peace,

gratitude, or compassion can restore

balance and bring us to inner calm.

When we feel relaxed, restored, and

renewed, the benefits ripple outward.

Families, friends, colleagues, and

communities all experience the harmony

we carry within. Ultimately, caring for

the soul alongside the body brings joy,

strengthens health, and contributes to

peace in the wider world.

Drawing on the wisdom of Dadi Janki, who said: “There are many external crises.

It is not always possible to do something about them. But the crises you create in

your own mind – at least put a stop to those and claim back your peace”, we are

encouraged to remember that we do not have to be at the mercy of the world

around us. Through small, regular practices of positive thinking, breathing, and

reflection, we can maintain a spirit of calm and feel refreshed.

Shockingly, only 1 (wat in oorspronklike staan

is hoofletter i) in 20 are aware they have

glaucoma, and 50% will be blind in one eye

by the time they seek an ophthalmologist

for the first time. In sub-Saharan Africa, it

is estimated that 4.16% of the population

aged 40 years and older are affected by

glaucoma, with a higher incidence among

the black population (5–7%) compared to

the Caucasian population (3–5%). Despite

being treatable, the South African Glaucoma

Society (SAGS) emphasises the major

challenges faced, including:

• lack of awareness

• late diagnosis

• poor follow-up visits

• low compliance to treatment plans

What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma is an eye disease that can damage your optic

nerve. The optic nerve supplies visual information to your

brain from your eyes. Glaucoma is usually, but not always,

the result of abnormally high pressure inside your eye. Over

time, the increased pressure can erode your optic nerve

tissue, which may lead to vision loss or even blindness. If it is

diagnosed early, you may be able to prevent additional vision

loss.

• Medical history – people with diabetes,

high blood pressure, and heart disease.

• Use of certain medications – using

corticosteroids for extended periods.

What are the symptoms of glaucoma?

The most common type of glaucoma is

primary open-angle glaucoma. It has no

signs or symptoms, except gradual vision

loss.

Symptoms of acute glaucoma include:

• sudden blurring of vision

• severe eye pain

• red eyes

• coloured halos around lights

Who is at risk for glaucoma?

According to the World Health Organisation

(WHO), glaucoma is the second leading

cause of blindness around the world.

The risk factors include:

• Age – people over 60 are at an

increased risk of glaucoma.

• Ethnicity – people of African descent

are significantly more likely to develop

glaucoma than Caucasians.

• Eye problems – chronic eye

inflammation and thin corneas;

physical injury or trauma to your eye.

• Family history – some types of

glaucoma may run in families.

If you have any of these symptoms, please

seek medical help right away.

The only way to find out if you have

glaucoma is to get a comprehensive

dilated eye exam. If diagnosed and treated

early, most people with glaucoma will not

have significant vision loss.

a screening, please contact an

Style your patio

the sustainable way

Your patio should feel like a natural extension of your home – a place to relax, entertain,

and enjoy the outdoors without worrying about wear and tear. According to Janet Müller

from Groen Aarde and Enviro Furniture, the key is pairing durable outdoor furniture with the

right plants to soften and elevate the space. “I think it’s a very good combination. People can

see how the furniture is going to look with plants in their garden,” she says.

Compiled by Gypseenia Lion

Choose furniture that can withstand the

elements

When styling a patio, it is always best to start

with furniture that is built for outdoor living. It

requires less maintenance and can withstand

different weather conditions.

Popular patio-friendly options include

sundowner sets, picnic benches, and loose

outdoor chairs that are both sturdy and

comfortable.

Let plants do the styling

Plants play a big role in transforming a

patio from functional to inviting. Large pot

plants can frame seating areas, while smaller

planters add texture and colour around

tables and corners.

Mixing greenery with flowering plants

creates balance and brings life to outdoor

spaces.

Indoor styling tips:

• Choose plants suited to your light

and airflow

• Bathrooms need moisture-loving plants

• Place greenery where it gets enough air

• Add oxygen-giving plants to improve

indoor comfort

Outdoor styling tips:

• Work with sun, shade, and airflow

• Use large pot plants to soften corners

• Pair greenery with weather-resistant

furniture

Think long-term, not just trendy

Homeowners are encouraged to choose quality pieces that will

last and adapt over time.

“If it stands in the sun for a few years and fades slightly, we just

heat it up, and the colour comes back,” she says.

That durability allows homeowners to focus on styling rather

than constant maintenance.

Top picks for the perfect patio setup

• Start with durable, weather-resistant furniture, and make sure

they are comfortable chairs for outdoor use

• A compact table for drinks

• Pot plants in different shapes; use large pots to anchor

seating areas

• Mix plant textures for visual interest. These can be in the form

of four-tier plant shelves and stands

• Hanging baskets to add height and greenery

• Ask for advice if you’re unsure what suits your space

Plant luck, pretty petals and flavour-packed stems

Herb of the month

Is celery a herb or a veggie? Officially it is a herb Apium

graveolens but it is so popular in home cuisine, that you could

be excused for thinking it is a veggie. It adds crunch to salads,

flavours stews and soups , and is often sautéed with onions

and carrots as a base for mince and other meaty dishes. Celery has the

reputation of being finicky to grow, but that is if you want to ‘blanch’

the stems by planting in a trench and slowly topping up the soil

so that the stems stay white. A simpler way is to simply plant it

in a garden bed and harvest stems when needed. The secret is

to keep the soil consistently moist so that the stems are always

crunchy and full of flavour.

To grow: sow the fine seed in seed trays and keep moist during

germination. When the first two true leaves develop transplant into small

pots. This allows the celery to develop a good root system and leafy top

growth. When ready, transplant from pot into fertile soil that drains well

and lightly close the soil around the stem but don’t press down hard or

tramp it down. Space plants about 15 cm apart. Keep the soil consistently

moist throughout its growing season because it doesn’t tolerate drought.

Feed with a liquid fertiliser once a month and harvest the outer stems.

Kirchhoffs celery Tall Utah has thick, crisp medium green stalks. It grows

up to 15cm and takes 80 to 90 days to harvest. The leaves are also edible

and fresh harvested seeds can be used as a spice. Details: kirchhoffs.co.za

Indoor plant of the month

… The Money Tree

(Pachira aquatica) is

the soil dry out between

watering. Feed with a

once or twice a month;

Can the Tasman

shake up Bloemfontein?

Kia is looking to make waves with the arrival of its Tasman bakkie,

which will hit the South African market at the end of March.

Text: DALE NEETHLING

When driving through

Bloemfontein, you’re almost

always met with familiar

faces, or should I say grilles:

the household names that have been

running the Bloemfontein bakkie scene.

Many other brands have stepped into the

ring to challenge the heavyweights, but

few have succeeded. Could the Tasman be

the one?

Kia is not typically a brand that you

associate with bakkies but that is about

to change. Soon, the line-up won’t just

feature the famous workhorses, the K2500

and K2700. Kia will soon have a distinctive

niche lifestyle bakkie in its arsenal, ready to

compete in an already growing segment.

But what does the arrival of the Tasman

mean for Bloemfontein? Bakkies have become part of the culture here.

They are all over the city! It will provide Bloemfontein bakkie lovers with

an additional option. So, if you’re looking to stand out and not go the

mainstream route, the Tasman might be for you.

Another question that also needs answering is, what is the Kia Tasman meant

to be? Will it just be a lifestyle bakkie or will you be able to take it on a rugged

adventure as well? According to Kia South Africa, the Tasman will be the best

of both worlds. The line-up will include a 4x4 derivative which they say will be

more than capable. So, you should be able to switch from grocery and school

runs to 4x4ing, camping and hitting the “grondpad” with ease.

According to Kia, the model provides up to 1,173 litres of cargo capacity. That

should make trips to the nursery much easier. You’ll be able to carry more

than enough plants, compost, and gardening tools, but at the same time still

be able to look good when popping in at the grocer. The best of both worlds.

Both parents should be able to benefit from the Tasman – the perfect lifestyle

vehicle for mom and dad’s weekend escape.

The distinctive design of the Tasman will definitely cause heads to turn. When

the Tasman dares to stand apart.

Coming soon to Kia Bloemfontein.

you look at the front-end of the bakkie, you are welcomed

with a big grille and front section. The headlights are also

quite far apart. They are found just above the fenders. If

that doesn’t make sense, just picture Sid from Ice Age – it’s a

similar idea. The Tasman is clearly designed to stand out.

Kia also claims that the Tasman will have segment-leading

headroom, front legroom and second-row legroom –

perfect for long road trips, tall passengers, and children who

somehow always need more space than the driver.

The Tasman also features a few quirky yet genuinely

convenient touches that could make everyday life easier.

The centre console flips over to become a table, perfect for

a quick lunch between trips, or for those who work on the

road and need to open a laptop for a Zoom call or send a

quick email. There are also secret compartments found in

the wheel arches, adding another layer of practicality to the

Tasman’s thoughtful design.

The interior of the Tasman is expected to deliver an SUVlike

feel, with premium materials throughout. The top-ofthe-range

model will likely feature a sunroof, reinforcing

the lifestyle-oriented personality this bakkie is shaping up

to have. The bakkie is also expected to include a variety

of features we’ve come to expect in modern premium or

lifestyle vehicles – wireless connectivity, wireless charging

ports, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and a

suite of convenience features designed to make life on the

road easier. Bloemfonteiners can expect a 2.2-litre turbodiesel

engine, a range of derivatives, and, as mentioned

previously, the 4x4 option that makes the Tasman ready for

weekend adventures. Set to arrive at the end of March, the

Tasman might just be the bakkie that lets you tackle the

“grondpad” by day and turn heads in Bloem by night.
