Introducing SUMTEZ
(Patent Pending)
Zebra Board
An automated, objective, and quantitative system that modernizes the Zebra Test for optical distortion assessment in float glass
production. By integrating machine vision, precision motor control, and robust image-processing algorithms, SUMTEZ converts
a traditionally visual and subjective Zebra Test into a measurable and repeatable process, fully compliant with IS 14900:2018
and ASTM C 1036-16.
The system accurately detects and quantifies glass waviness by determining distortion behaviour across controlled angular
rotation, independent of operator judgment or environmental conditions. By replacing visual interpretation with data-driven
measurement, SUMTEZ streamlines quality control and provides manufacturers with actionable insights for continuous
improvement. Adaptable and scalable, SUMTEZ sets a new benchmark for optical quality assurance in the glass industry.

In this exclusive interview with
Glass Bulletin, Ms. Marie Croes
discusses her professional
journey, Vesuvius’ core technologies
in ceramic rollers, evolving market
demands and the company’s growing
engagement with the Indian glass
processing industry.
Excerpts:
Q. To begin with, could you please
introduce yourself to our readers
and share a brief overview of your
professional journey and your current
role at Vesuvius?
Of course, I am very happy to have
the opportunity to share my insights
on this very important industry.
My name is Marie Croes, and I am
the Vice President in charge of the
Fused Silica Business Unit within the
Vesuvius Group. I started my journey
in the refractory and ceramic industry
in 2021, and I have been leading this
exciting business for almost three
years now.
I began my career as a senior civil
servant in the French administration,
first as an auditor for the French
Central Bank and then as Head of
Personal Taxation at the French Tax
Administration. I am very happy to
have engaged myself in industry after
this valuable experience in the French
senior civil service.
Q. Vesuvius is known for its
advanced ceramic rollers used in
glass tempering furnaces. What key
technologies and innovations set your
rollers apart from others in the global
market?
Ceramic glass tempering rollers
are a core offering in our product
portfolio. First of all, our ZYAROCK®
ceramic rollers are made of highpurity
fused silica material, where we
control key steps of grain production,
offering exceptional thermal
stability and resistance to shock and
contamination.
What makes our products stand
out are our patented SMARTLY
DRIVEN® and SMARTLY DRIVEN®
PLUS end-cap systems, which ensure
reliable, glue-free connections that
withstand repeated heating cycles.
SMARTLY DRIVEN® PLUS tempering
rollers combine precise geometry,
tight tolerances and superior surface
finish to deliver longer roller life,
consistent glass quality and reduced
furnace downtime compared to other
rollers.
Q. How do you see the demand
evolving for ceramic rollers in the
international glass processing
industry, especially with growing
applications in solar and architectural
glass?
Demand for ceramic rollers is
primarily driven by architectural,
automotive and solar customers.
While these markets are cyclical, I
expect demand to grow in the long
term. Beyond overall growth, an
important trend is the increasing
need for higher-quality glass across
all applications, particularly in
automotive. To meet these evolving
requirements, we continue to
invest in class-leading quality and
innovation, in close collaboration with
our customers.
Q. India is emerging as a major player
in glass processing. What are your
observations about the Indian market
in comparison to more mature global
markets?
India is an exciting country for many
industries today. The dynamism we
see here is incredible, with a strong
willingness to stand out as a global
player alongside the US, Europe and
China. We are very happy to serve
Indian customers and support their
growth. It is a challenging market, and
we are ready to challenge ourselves.
Q. Vesuvius continues to lead
globally in this segment. What
strategies or values do you believe
have contributed to your strong and
sustained market position?
If I had to summarise what has
enabled us to thrive in this market,
I would highlight three pillars:
innovation, quality and service. We
have a long-standing commitment
to R&D, continuously investing to
deliver breakthrough solutions, such
as our patented SMARTLY DRIVEN®
end-cap system, which sets new
standards in performance and
reliability on our SMARTLY DRIVEN®
PLUS tempering rollers.
Quality has always been at the
core of everything we do, ensuring
our products meet the highest
expectations of the glass processing
industry. Finally, our customer service
goes far beyond order fulfilment,
encompassing engineering support,
application expertise and close
collaboration to help customers
achieve lasting success.

Interview
Q. From your perspective, how has
the Indian glass processing industry
transformed in recent years? Where
do you see the most promise for the
future?
The Indian glass processing
industry has undergone a major
transformation in recent years, driven
by rapid growth in infrastructure,
automotive and solar sectors, as
well as rising demand for highperformance
architectural and
energy-efficient glass. The industry
has shifted from basic float and
annealed glass to advanced
tempered, laminated, coated and
smart glass solutions, supported by
modern furnaces, automation and
quality control systems.
Looking ahead, the strongest
promise lies in solar glass, energyefficient
façades and value-added
architectural applications, along
with greater localisation of high-tech
components such as ceramic rollers,
coatings and precision machinery,
as India positions itself as a global
manufacturing hub.
Q. Could you share some insights into
Vesuvius’ future plans for ceramic
roller innovations and how you aim to
stay ahead of market needs?
Our innovation efforts are driven by
customer needs. Today, in addition to
our continuous focus on reliable, topquality
products, we are also working
on solutions that can help our glass
customers reduce white haze issues.
Q. Please tell us more about your
team’s presence in India. How do you
ensure quality service and support for
local customers?
We have a long-standing presence
in the Indian market, working
closely with our historical partner,
Partha. Recently, we have further
strengthened this presence by hiring
a new and very energetic Account
Manager, Vivek Ranjan, who is fully
responsible for our commercial
activities in the country. Vivek brings
a background in steel, which is
helping us broaden our business in
India beyond glass processing.
Q. Mr. G.T. Lim has been a key figure in
managing the Indian market for many
years. What would you like to say
about his contribution to Vesuvius’
growth and reputation in India?
G.T. Lim is an exceptional commercial
leader in our organisation. He is
responsible for the entire APAC
territory and is probably the person
who travels the most within our
Business Unit. He understands his
markets very well, has in-depth
knowledge of our product portfolio,
and brings strong expertise in glass
operations from his background.
All of this is extremely valuable for
our customers and, in turn, for our
company. He has been fully engaged
in growing our business in India and
continues to strongly support Vivek in
this journey.
Q. Finally, what message would
you like to convey to Indian glass
processors and the broader industry
community?
Our future lies with the future of
our customers. We are committed
to supporting the development and
growth of the Indian glass industry
with our solutions. Purchasing from
Vesuvius goes beyond products; it
is about the collaboration we build
together. We do not sell products, we
sell reliability.

Company Report
Why uPVC is becoming popular in Tier 2
and Tier 3 cities
Insights By Mr. Dinesh Chandra Pandey, Founder of Shankar Fenestrations & Glasses
uPVC is gaining strong traction in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as families seek durable,
energy-efficient, and low-maintenance alternatives.
Founder of Shankar Fenestrations &
Glasses Pvt. Ltd.
In the last few years, uPVC
(unplasticised polyvinyl chloride)
windows and doors have gained
immense popularity in India. What
was once primarily seen in luxury
residences and urban high-rise
apartments is now becoming a
favourite option even in Tier 2 and
Tier 3 cities. Why? Because people
are becoming accustomed to quality,
longevity, and energy efficiency. uPVC
has all of this and more — it is perfect
for the expanding towns and cities
across the nation.
One of the reasons it is becoming
more popular is its low maintenance.
Traditional wood windows and doors
require painting, polishing, and
repairs throughout the year in any
climate; during coastal exposure,
wood options can rot or deteriorate. If,
however, you choose uPVC, it cannot
rust, fade, warp, or pull away with
age. When installed, new uPVC will
stay looking fresh for years and only
needs a simple wipe to clean. This is
especially important to homeowners
looking for affordable, long-lasting
solutions — this is much better than
modifying your expensive home with
routine upkeep.
Weather resistance is another key
advantage. The summer in several
Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India can be
extremely hot, accompanied by heavy
rain or high humidity. A uPVC door or
window has no problem dealing with
these conditions and will not lose its
strength or lustre. It will not swell in
the wet or crack and become brittle
in the heat, while wooden doors or
window frames often do.
Energy efficiency is also an
important factor. uPVC can help
keep the house cool in summer and
warm in winter, as it is very good at
keeping heat and cold out — and it
means that there is less reliance on
air-conditioning or heating systems,
saving many families money on energy
bills. As families in smaller towns seek
out sustainable lifestyles, this creates
additional interest in uPVC, as it is
a smart and eco-friendly product.
Furthermore, the growing appeal
of uPVC is also driven by increasing
awareness and availability. Previously
only available in larger cities, many
brands and manufacturers in India
are now acquiring a smaller-town
customer base.
Local dealers and owners
are already urging builders and
consumers to consider uPVC for a
new house, school, office, or even a
hospital. Many people are seeing it
for themselves and understanding
that uPVC is a much more landsmart
option than traditional building
materials.
The overall aesthetic is a factor.
Nowadays, uPVC windows and doors
come in an array of colours, styles,
and finishes, whether an easy-toclean
wood look, a floating oak look,
or a smooth white or grey frame.
This adds elegance and modernity
for families building new homes or
upgrading existing ones. Homeowners
can match their interiors and have
a fashionable, urban look for their
houses while not spending a lot of
money.
uPVC is growing in Tier 2 and Tier
3 cities because it combines beauty,
strength, and convenience. It is
lifestyle-designed for people who
want quality without maintenance.
The growing awareness will elevate
uPVC from a trend to a mainstay of
modern Indian homes — showing
that good design and durability
should be achievable for everyone
regardless of city level.

Fensterbau Frontale: Added value
through storage, logistics, finishing
treatment & sustainability
HEGLA Group To Showcase Advanced Systems For Glass Logistics & Insulated
Glass Recycling Among Others
At Fensterbau Frontale in Nuremberg, the HEGLA Group will focus on solutions for
the efficient storage and logistics of glass, windows and long goods profiles. Other
highlights include the post-installation finishing treatment of window units to create
bird protection glass, as well as the sustainable use of end-of-life insulated glass.
Space-saving storage of long goods pallets and profiles: The mobile storage modules are positioned close together to save space.
An opening is not created until loading and unloading begin.
A Renault Master converted into a glass-industry
vehicle will be on display.
The IG2Pieces system will be
presented as a profitable way
to achieve greater sustainability
for end-of-life IGUs. This system
automates the separation of
insulated glass into its component
parts without damaging them,
thereby achieving higher recycling
rates and maintaining maximum raw
material quality. Once separated
cleanly, the panes can be reused.
If they are disposed of instead,
separating the insulated glass unit
into its components promises a
higher purchase price than disposal
in a mixed container. In the case of
newly manufactured insulated glass
units with high-quality attachments,
separation and repair can also

As a technical solution for greater
sustainability, IG2Pieces has been
nominated for the Fensterbau

Space-saving direct access
to long goods profiles and
pallets
HEGLA will present various versions
of mobile PVCU storage systems
designed to create more space
and order in the warehouse. In this
solution, the shelves are positioned
directly next to each other. When a
pallet needs to be stored or a profile
removed, a handling opening opens
automatically. This allows pallets
and profiles to be accessed directly

with a forklift or a Telehub pallet
fork, for example. All profiles and
pallets remain visible at all times and
are available without the need for
restacking. The system height and
storage width can be customised
to meet specific customer
requirements. Handling is carried out
from the side for mobile cantilever
arm shelves and from the front for
the pull-out variant.
Renault Master and exterior
rack at a special price
Representing the glass and window
logistics segment, a Renault Master
converted into a glass-industry
vehicle with an exterior rack will
be on display. A new feature is
the Variofix equipment, which, in
combination with the slat bars,
provides additional support across
multiple levels. Most goods are
professionally loaded onto the
exterior of the vehicle. If additional
protection is required, the vehicle
can also be equipped with an interior
rack. In the variant featuring a folding
horizontal support, the interior space
can be used flexibly.
Retrofitted bird protection
using laser printing
HEGLA boraident contributes to
greater sustainability by offering
solutions for the finishing treatment
of panes, transforming them into bird
protection glass. With the BIRDfriend
system, an aesthetic protective
pattern can be applied to the surface
at a later stage using gentle laser
printing. The effect is threefold:
the bird is alerted to an obstacle,
deceptively realistic reflections are
broken up, and the slight reflection
of the print provides additional
protection. At the same time, the
finishing treatment increases the
product’s added value.
HEGLA Managing Directors
Bernhard Hötger and Toni Schön
are looking forward to Fensterbau
Frontale. “The event brings the whole
industry together in Nuremberg, and
we have always appreciated the extra
momentum it injects into our sector
every two years,” explains Bernhard
Hötger. “This is also an important
date for us to present innovations,
discover trends ourselves, and meet
many customers again in person,”
emphasises Toni Schön.

Edgetech Europe and Schlegel join
forces at FENSTERBAU FRONTALE
Joint Showcase Highlights Integrated Solutions For Next-Gen Window And
Façade Systems
At FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2026, two Quanex subsidiaries to present coordinated
technologies that enhance efficiency, design flexibility and long-term performance in
modern insulating glass and sealing applications.
Flexible warm edge Super
Spacer® technology combined
with high-performance sealing
systems. Industry pioneers Edgetech
and Schlegel are joining forces at
FENSTERBAU FRONTALE. From 24
to 27 March 2026, the two Quanex
subsidiaries will be showcasing
practical solutions at booth 7A-
525 that take the energy efficiency,
durability and functional reliability
requirements of modern window and
façade systems to the next level.
“As the original flexible spacer,
Super Spacer® has set the standard
for precision, energy efficiency
and productivity since 1989.
At FENSTERBAU FRONTALE,

we will demonstrate how
these qualities create tangible
competitive advantages in industrial
manufacturing,” says Mike Moran,
Quanex’s VP of Sales for Europe
and the UK. One example is the
latest development in warm edge
technology: triple insulating glass
with Super Spacer® is now ready
for the market. Super Spacer® will
also focus on the commercial sector
at the fair, where precise robotassisted
application on XXL formats
and colour design will play a central
role. Spacers are increasingly being
specified in grey to complement
the transparency of modern glass
façades.
The cost-effective
production of ‘skinny triples’
Skinny triples, or thin triple insulating
glazing, are developing into a growth
market. However, technical hurdles,
high investment costs and the need
for new manufacturing technology
have so far prevented widespread
implementation. Super Spacer® and
Forel are now proving that production
is market-ready. Following an update,
insulating glazing can be produced
on existing, fully automated, highspeed
production lines from the
Italian glass processing machine
manufacturer without requiring
additional investments running into
millions. This can be achieved using
familiar profile systems, conventional
soda-lime glass and standard sealing
solutions, as well as the flexible warm
edge Super Spacer®.
Precision is a crucial factor. Super
Spacer® can be applied precisely to
the thinner middle pane. Production
quality remains stable even with
tolerances of significantly less
than one millimetre, an important
prerequisite for making “skinny
triples” practical, especially for
private window renovations.
Schlegel presents the highperformance
Q-LON seal
Schlegel, the stand partner, is
also showcasing its pioneering
achievements at the fair. The
company is a leading manufacturer
of high-quality sealing systems with
unparalleled expertise in materials
and manufacturing. In the 1960s, the
London-based company introduced
the world’s first sealing profile with a
polyurethane foam core, setting an
international standard. The Q-LON
profiles continue this tradition,
meeting the highest standards of
resilience, weather resistance and
durability.

Malaviya Solar Energy obtains
exclusive licensing deal for solar
panel recycling from LuxChemtech
Patented Recycling Technology Supports Circular Economy And High-Value
Material Recovery
The agreement with LuxChemtech, Germany enables deployment of an advanced
recycling process in India, supporting regulatory compliance, high EPR value recovery
and sustainable management of end-of-life solar panels.
Formal signing of Licensing Agreement for
patented and award winning Solar Panel
recycling in a complete sustainable manner
between Lux Chemtech, Germany and Malaviya
Solar Energy, India
Malaviya Solar Energy
Consultancy, Pune, has
entered into an exclusive
technology licensing agreement for
patented solar panel recycling with
LuxChemtech GmbH, Germany.
The process follows the zero-waste
concept and strives for a true circular
economy through a fully eco-friendly,
globally patented technology.
The process ensures the highest
value of the Extended Producer
Responsibility (EPR) certificate, with
more than 98 percent of metals
recovered.
LuxChemtech develops and
produces high-tech recycling
technologies and equipment for the
recovery of silicon scrap and other
special waste, including PV modules.
The process involves the use of water
and organic chemicals to separate
the various metals.
The PHOTORAMA (PHOtovoltaic
waste management – advanced
Technologies for recOvery & recycling
of secondary RAw MAterials) project
was an EU-funded initiative that
developed a circular economy
model for photovoltaic (PV) panel
recycling, with a pilot line inaugurated
at the facility of project partner
LuxChemtech GmbH in Germany.
The project, which ran from 2021
to mid-2025, aimed at high-value
material recovery from end-of-life
solar panels.
India has set an ambitious target
of achieving 500 GW of renewable
energy by 2030, with solar PV
anticipated to contribute up to 350
GWp. By volume, this will exceed
20 million tonnes under a regular
scenario. Silver alone will account
for over 10,000 tonnes, the “silver
lining,” followed by about 14.5 million
tonnes of glass, 3.7 million tonnes
of aluminium, 1 million tonnes of
polymers, 0.5 million tonnes of pure
silicon, 0.4 million tonnes of copper
and 8,000 tonnes of other precious
metals. If panels underperform,
which is highly likely, and retire earlier
than their 20-year lifespan, this endof-life
volume could increase by 30
percent.
As per the Ministry of
Environment, Forest and Climate
Change, Government of India
regulations issued in November 2022,
solar panels must be safely disposed
of through recycling and cannot
be landfilled or handled through
unorganised markets.
Malaviya Solar Energy Consultancy
is one of the leading consultancy and
research companies in India. It will
explore partnerships with existing
glass and aluminium manufacturers,
as well as e-waste processors and
start-ups, under the technology
licensing framework.

States and Brazil, and demand for
Glaston’s automotive technologies
continues. In each case, customers
selected Glaston’s MATRIX, MATRIX
EVO and CHAMP EVO solutions
for their ability to efficiently meet
modern requirements, enabling
consistently superior optics.
Perfected glass optics are no
longer a differentiator for automotive
OEMs. Instead, they are the only
road to future success. OEMs must
consistently deliver superior glass
visibility for drivers and passengers,
as well as accurate reflections of
images and data critical to vehicle

drivers with better visibility and a
more streamlined vehicle design.
This was followed by the
emergence of increasingly complex
glass geometries, exemplified by
models such as the Mini, where
distinctive styling created new
challenges for glass shaping and
processing.
Most recently, the rapid
development of electric and
autonomous vehicles has further
reshaped requirements. Modern
vehicles now incorporate many
advanced driver assistance systems
(ADAS), cameras and sensors that
must be protected behind glass

From claims to proof: Aludecor launches
India’s 1st test-before-choice movement
New Industry Initiative Urges Architects And Builders To Prioritise Verified
Performance Over Untested Material Claims
Aludecor’s nationwide campaign champions evidence-based decision-making by
offering free, brand-blind ACP testing and reinforcing the importance of transparency,
safety and accountability in façade materials.
As India’s urban skyline grows
denser and taller, façade
materials are no longer judged
by aesthetics alone. Aluminium
Composite Panels (ACPs) today
are expected to deliver consistent
performance, verified fire safety and
long-term reliability—factors that
directly influence building safety
and professional accountability.
Recognising this shift, Aludecor
has launched a bold, industryfirst
initiative that urges the
ACP ecosystem to move from
assumption-driven decisions to
proof-based choices.
In January 2026, Aludecor unveiled
its national television and digital
campaign anchored in a simple yet
uncompromising belief: trust must
be earned through testing. Built
around the message “Test Nahi Toh
Trust Nahi,” the campaign is fronted
by acclaimed actor Amit Sial, whose
authoritative presence underscores
the seriousness of material
safety and informed decisionmaking.
The campaign calls upon
architects, fabricators, builders and
homeowners to question unverified
claims and prioritise scientific
evaluation over marketing promises.
Central to this initiative is
the invitation to test any ACP at
Aludecor’s labs free of cost. This
represents India’s largest voluntary,
free and open-to-all material
testing movement. Through the
Join the Trust Movement, Aludecor
invites stakeholders across the
construction value chain to get
their ACPs tested—irrespective of
brand—at no charge. Samples can
be submitted via Aludecor’s dealer
network and are tested in a brandblind
and anonymised manner at
the company’s advanced in-house
R&D centre, ensuring neutrality and
credibility.
What distinctly sets this movement
apart is the strength of its testing
infrastructure. Aludecor operates
the only NABL-accredited reactionto-fire
testing facility run by an ACP
manufacturer in India, reinforcing its
commitment to transparency and
globally aligned safety benchmarks.
Participants also have the option
to witness the testing process live
online, with results shared through
standardised, official test reports—
free from interpretation, opinion or
promotional bias.
To take this message beyond
screens and into real-world practice,
Aludecor is conducting Fabricator
Meets across pan-India locations.
These on-ground sessions address
critical industry concerns such as
colour fading, delamination and
the authenticity of fire-retardant
claims, while clearly explaining the
entire testing journey—from sample
submission to report interpretation.
The initiative has already seen
strong participation, reflecting the
industry’s growing demand for
verified performance and responsible
material choices.
By opening its doors to all ACP
products and placing evidence
above claims, Aludecor is not just
running a campaign—it is redefining
accountability in the ACP industry.
The message is clear: when safety
and performance are non-negotiable,
testing is no longer optional. It is the
foundation of trust.

Institute for Solar Energy Systems –
ISE) how BIPV can be deployed more
often in the future and what new
solutions are available.
Renewable energy is the most
important source for rising electricity
needs, including those of the heating
and mobility sectors in transition,
especially via wind energy and
photovoltaics, not least due to their
comparatively low generation costs.
However, the by far greatest growth
potential for photovoltaics lies in
building skins which, with their large
usable expanses, would make urban
energy supply more sustainable
when equipped with PV.
Solar building skins significantly
reduce CO₂ emissions in the
building sector, offer shading, avoid
grid extension costs and generate
sustainable added value locally.
One reason BIPV is still too rarely
considered for vertical installation
could be the limited creative
freedom traditionally associated
with PV module design. Architectural
glass with built-in PV cells, such as
Sunplus BIPV or Pilkington solutions,
has enabled pattern-based designs
for several years, but until now there
have been hardly any colour design

options for highly efficient BIPV
modules.
“In my understanding, more
possibilities to adapt the colour
and dimensions of modules to the
desired geometry and aesthetics of
the building are needed for a stronger
uptake of building-integrated
photovoltaics especially in façades,”
explains Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Knaack,
Head of the Façade Structures
department at TU Darmstadt and
Head at the “Design of Construction”
chair at TU Delft.
“Module aesthetics follow façade
aesthetics. And vice versa: through
colour-customisable modules
architects can design the aesthetics
of façades. We have to understand
BIPV façade components like bricks,
clinker bricks or design panels: here
we can select from a wide variety of
surfaces and now also sizes and then
also use these in custom patterns
– with a view to achieving a desired
individuality.”
One major obstacle to colour
customisation has so far been the
lower efficiency of designed module
glass compared to conventional black
modules.
Coloured BIPV for designing
façades
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar
Energy Systems ISE has been
working on a solution for several
years that has now reached market
readiness for large volumes and
any module dimension. Dr. Thomas
Kroyer, a researcher at Fraunhofer
ISE, developed the patented
“MorphoColor” technology with
his team. Unlike colour pigments
or coloured films, some of which
strongly shade the module, the
institute produces the desired colour
using an interference layer that
allows precise optical reflection of
individual wavelengths to generate
intense colour. For the remaining
large spectrum of sunlight, the glass
remains transparent and energy loss
remains low.
“There are many well suited
surfaces on roofs and façades for
photovoltaics to be integrated in a
meaningful way. With our solution

we give architects the freedom to
use PV modules as design features.
Alternatively, the PV functionality
can also be concealed completely.
In most cases, you can still see up
close that these are PV modules but
seen from a few metres away you no
longer notice the difference between
these and normal façade panels.”
Depending on the colour
tint, coloured PV modules with
MorphoColor coating achieve 90–
96% of the efficiency of comparable
black modules:
“With conventional solar
modules the majority of the energy
is converted into power from the
incident photons of the long-wave
red light. The short-wave blue light,
by contrast, is only used to a lesser
extent. This is why the power loss is
lower when blue light is reflected
rather than red light. A module with
a blue cover glass therefore has a
slightly better efficiency rate (96% of
the performance of a black module)
than a red one (94%).”
Coloured photovoltaics also open
up new possibilities in areas where
they might not be expected, such
as the protection of listed buildings
and ensembles. Kroyer adds: “PV
installation on the roofs of such listed

Technological milestone in insulating
glass production
Chongzheng Shengda Glass Opts For First 8×3.3 Metre TPA Line From LiSEC
The project not only marks a global first in producing large-format TPS insulating
glass but also underlines the leading technological role both companies are playing in
implementing innovative, efficient and sustainable production solutions.
© LiSEC; starting up the 8 × 3.3 m TPA line
Chongzheng Shengda Glass,
part of the Shandong
Chongzheng Group, is one of
the leading manufacturers of energyefficient
functional glass in China.
The company operates some of the
most modern production systems in
the high-tech industrial park in Zibo
and focuses on high-quality 4SG and
low-E glass products for architecture,
façades and structural engineering.
By opting for the LiSEC 8×3.3 m
TPA line, the company continues
its consistent strategy of using
technology as a lever for quality and
sustainability.
Why TPA: Process reliability
and efficiency without
compromise
The LiSEC TPA system (Thermoplastic
Spacer Application) replaces
conventional spacer production with
the fully automatic, direct application
of thermoplastic spacer material
onto the glass sheet. The material is
fed from a barrel, heated, applied
precisely and then the closure area
in the corner is hermetically sealed
using a compression system.
Clear advantages of TPA
technology include:
;;
Seamless production process:
No bending or installing

spacers, resulting in shorter
cycle times and a lower risk of
errors.
;;
Highest precision: Automatic
closure by sealing the
beginning and end of the
application without visible
joints or height deviations.
;;
Maximum flexibility: Seamless
change between different
insulating glass sizes, including
shapes, as well as different
spacer widths, without
changeover times.
;;
Permanent sealing: A
chemically stable connection
between the glass, TPA
material and sealant ensures
extreme durability of the
insulating glass unit.
;;
Energy efficiency: Reduced
material consumption,
optimised drying cycles and
up to 30% lower energy
consumption compared to
conventional production
methods.
Project implementation:
Trust through experience
The partnership between
Chongzheng Shengda Glass and
LiSEC dates back to 1998. Even the
very first LiSEC insulating glass line
and cutting system proved itself over
more than two decades of operation.
Trust in quality, project management
and technical competence was
therefore decisive in implementing
the new 8 × 3.3 metre TPA line—a
system that is unique worldwide in
these dimensions.
“We knew that, with LiSEC, we are
not just buying machines, but the
experience of an industry pioneer.
This made the clear difference for a
project of this magnitude,” explains
Song Xunwu, General Manager of
Chongzheng Shengda.
Results: A benchmark for
precision and efficiency
With the start-up of the new line,
Chongzheng Shengda has achieved:
;;
30% lower energy
consumption thanks to an
intelligent control system and
process optimisation.
;;
Efficiency gains through newly
structured production and
packaging processes.
Market feedback confirms the
project’s impact. The press release
announcing the new line was viewed
more than 26,000 times, a clear
indicator of the strong industry
response to this technological
milestone.
“This production line is a
benchmark for the glass industry,”
explains Song Xunwu, General
Manager of Chongzheng Shengda.
“It shows what is possible when
technology, partnership and
innovation come together.”
Partnership as an innovation
driver
The cooperation between LiSEC
and Chongzheng Shengda extends
far beyond machine sales. Together,
the two companies develop new
approaches, test expansions and
optimise functions directly in
practical applications.
“Our cooperation is based on open
feedback, technical expertise and
mutual trust,” says Song Xunwu. “This
is the basis for redefining standards
in the glass industry together.”

Art Deco-style glass studio achieves the
latest 21st-century energy efficiency
standards
Careful Renovation Preserves Historic Character While Upgrading Thermal And
Acoustic Performance
A sensitive refurbishment in Paris combines heritage Art Deco architecture with ultraslim
vacuum glazing to deliver modern comfort, durability and long-term energy
performance without structural compromise.
The elegant glass extension from
the 1930s, which characterizes
the former Wilmotte &
Industries design studio at 59 Rue de
Charonne in the 11th arrondissement
of Paris, has undergone extensive
thermal and acoustic upgrading. The
renovation successfully combines the
building’s architectural heritage with
modern requirements for comfort,
usability and durability. The new
glazing with FINEO vacuum insulating
glass has enabled contemporary
building physics standards to be
achieved without altering the existing
substructure.
For the 2024 renovation, the
internationally active architectural
firm Wilmotte & Associés applied
the same conceptual and qualitative
standards used for its large-scale
projects. In this context, Georges
Kallas, the firm’s lead architect
and project manager, refers to the
new Maison de la Cosmétique
building in Chartres. This building
blends harmoniously into the
historic surroundings of the famous
Gothic cathedral, and its delicate,
understated enamelled glass façade
subtly emphasizes the historic
character of the wooden structure.
Every project, whether simple
or complex, goes beyond merely
overcoming technical challenges.
Each one follows a clearly
recognisable signature that combines
ethical standards, design precision
and materiality with sensitive
architecture. This approach is
particularly evident in concepts
that question the use of space and
materials in their respective contexts,
revealing the history of a place while
giving it a new architectural future

with respect to its past. “We develop
surfaces and details with the utmost
care to achieve aesthetic congruence
that complies with the applicable
specifications. Our goal is to create a
new quality of living and experience
that transcends the building itself,”
Kallas continues.
Modern comfort and
historical heritage come
together in perfect harmony
The Art Deco glass façade of the
former Wilmotte & Industries
design studio emphasizes the
building’s elegance. While employees
appreciated the subtle interplay
of glass and metal, the historic
construction no longer met today’s
energy and acoustic requirements.
“As the owners’ association wanted
to preserve the historic appearance,
we renovated the T-metal beams of
the substructure and fitted them
with FINEO glazing, which is perfectly
compatible. Thanks to the system’s
low installation height, the original
structure is preserved while the
glazing achieves performance values
comparable to triple glazing,” explains
Kallas.
He adds: “We also decided to
laminate FINEO with tempered glass
to provide an extra layer of safety
and protection against breakage
risks, such as objects falling on the
roof.” The precise implementation
was carried out by Verre & Métal, a
company established in 1921 with
proven expertise in glass and metal
construction. FINEO 8 laminated
with 4 mm clear single-pane safety
glass was selected for the project.
This glass construction blends
seamlessly with the 1930s style,
combining historical substance with
contemporary comfort.
Clément Lemoine, Product
Manager and Market Strategist at
FINEO by AGC, emphasizes: “The key
innovation of FINEO glazing lies in
the sealed, vacuum-packed space
between two panes of glass, which is
only 0.1 millimetres thick and enables
both very high energy efficiency
and unprecedented slimness.” He
continues: “This exceptionally small
vacuum space drastically reduces
heat exchange between the two
panes, providing excellent thermal
insulation with a Ug value of 0.7 W/
(m²·K) and a total thickness of just 6.7
millimetres in the minimal version.”
The same applies to sound
insulation, measured by the Rw
value, which reaches 36 decibels in
standard configurations and up to 45
decibels in laminated glass versions
incorporating AGC’s Stratophone
acoustic insulation glass. “FINEO
thus combines high performance
and durability ideally in a historic
and listed context. Our laboratory
tests confirm thermal and acoustic
integrity for over 60 years. For the
carefully renovated glass studio on
Rue de Charonne in Paris, this means
a long and bright future,” Lemoine
assures.
AGC was the first manufacturer
to obtain CE marking for its FINEO
vacuum insulating glass. Moreover,
FINEO stands out as the first and
only vacuum insulating glass with a
third-party verified Environmental
Product Declaration (EPD), achieving
exceptionally low CO₂ values of up to
18.9 kg/m² in the low-carbon version.

particularly in high-demand sectors
such as automotive glazing and home
appliances. As a result, the company’s
focus today extends well beyond
equipment supply, addressing
process reliability, compliance with
OEM standards and long-term
production performance.
Automotive windshield and
backlite glass printing
Automotive glass printing has
become a highly specialised and
critical process. In windshield and
backlite manufacturing, printing is
no longer merely decorative. It plays
a key role in safety, performance and
durability, while also having to comply
with stringent automotive OEM
requirements.
Role of screen printing in
automotive glass
Among all glass printing technologies,
screen printing remains the most
widely used method in automotive
applications. Its continued
dominance is driven by several key
advantages:
;;
Controlled and uniform ink
thickness
;;
Sharp and well-defined print
edges
;;
Excellent repeatability at high
production speeds
Screen printing is especially suitable
for ceramic frit and conductive
inks, which must withstand hightemperature
bending and tempering
processes without any compromise in
performance.
Windshield glass printing
In windshield manufacturing, printing
typically involves applying black
ceramic frit (BCP) on flat glass prior
to bending. This printed layer serves
multiple critical functions:
;;
Protecting polyurethane
adhesives from UV radiation
;;
Ensuring strong and consistent
bonding
;;
Enhancing the overall visual
appearance of the windshield
Automated glass handling systems
and precisely controlled printing
parameters are essential to achieving
consistent quality in high-volume
production environments.

Backlite (rear glass) printing
Backlite glass printing introduces
additional functional complexity.
Beyond ceramic borders, it often
includes:
;;
Defogger grids
;;
Antenna patterns
;;
Conductive silver tracks
These functional prints must meet
precise electrical resistance values
while maintaining visual uniformity.
Proven industrial screen-printing
systems support OEM-compliant
quality and reliability in backlite glass
production.
Home appliances glass
printing using the screen
printing process
Screen printing is also the preferred
method for glass used in home
appliances such as:
;;
Oven doors
;;
Refrigerator panels
;;
Microwave glass
;;
Washing machine lids
;;
Induction cooktops
In these applications, ceramic or
enamel inks are printed through a
fine mesh screen and then heattreated.
This allows the ink to fuse
permanently with the glass surface,
resulting in prints that are highly
resistant to heat, scratches, chemicals
and daily wear.
Functional and aesthetic
benefits
Screen printing enables both
functional and aesthetic
enhancements on appliance glass,
including:
;;
Control markings and icons
;;
Logos, borders and decorative
designs
;;
Improved safety through
controlled light transmission
and visibility
Because of its accuracy, consistency
and long service life, screen printing
continues to be the most trusted
and widely adopted technology for
glass printing in the home appliances
industry.
Industry outlook
Across both the automotive and
home appliances sectors, CUGHER’s
flat glass screen-printing technology
remains a core glass processing
solution. Supported by Kunal
Enterprise’s technical expertise and
on-ground execution, it delivers the
functional performance, durability
and visual quality required to
meet today’s demanding industry
standards.

Engineering light control
for smarter, more
efficient buildings
Eclipse Global Integrates Solar Control, Comfort And
Durability Within The Glass Envelope
Eclipse Global’s integrated blind systems address
solar heat, glare and privacy challenges by embedding
performance within insulating glass units, supporting
energy efficiency and long-term building reliability.
Mr. Imran Ansari
Business Development Head, Eclipse Global Pvt. Ltd.
106 Glass Bulletin | January - March, 2026
Eclipse Global Private Limited • 2
In a world where buildings strive
to do more with less—less energy,
less waste and less discomfort—
light emerges as both a design
asset and an engineering challenge
that must benefit people and the
planet alike. Founded in 2002 and
headquartered in Vadodara, India,
Eclipse Global addresses this need
through a focused engineering
approach and a single, performancedriven
solution: integrated blind
systems designed for durability,
efficiency and long-term reliability.
Over the past two decades, Eclipse
Global has developed its expertise
around a specific challenge faced
by modern buildings: managing
solar heat, glare and privacy
without compromising aesthetics
or operational efficiency. As glazing
areas increase in contemporary
architecture, the need for effective
solar control at the building envelope
has become critical. Traditional
shading systems, while functional,
often introduce maintenance
concerns, dust accumulation,
mechanical wear and visual clutter.
Eclipse Global’s integrated approach
addresses these limitations by
embedding performance directly
within the glass assembly.
At the core of the company’s
offering is an integrated blind system
engineered to operate within the
sealed cavity of an insulating glass
unit (IGU). Positioned inside the glass
assembly, the blind mechanism is
fully protected from dust ingress,
humidity, physical damage and
environmental exposure. This
enclosed configuration ensures
smooth and consistent operation
over time while eliminating
routine cleaning and maintenance
requirements associated with
conventional blinds. Because the
blind remains permanently sealed
within the glass cavity, it requires no
cleaning throughout its lifecycle and
Glass Bulletin | January - March, 2026

prevents the accumulation of dust or
contaminants, making it particularly
suitable for environments where
hygiene and reliability are critical.
The integrated design also eliminates
exposed components and the need
for external shading systems, helping
maintain a clean façade and an
uncluttered interior appearance.
The system is available in multiple
blind formats, including Venetian
blinds and honeycomb blinds,
allowing projects to select the most
appropriate solution based on
daylight control, privacy requirements
and thermal performance. The
honeycomb design, with its cellular
structure, creates an insulating
air barrier that further enhances
thermal efficiency and helps reduce
heat transfer through the opening.
The result is a reliable, long-life
shading solution that maintains
its performance and appearance
throughout its operational life.
From a thermal performance
standpoint, the system plays a
significant role in improving façade
efficiency. By limiting direct solar
penetration, solar heat gain can be
reduced by up to 8 percent, helping
stabilise indoor temperatures,
improving occupant comfort and
lowering dependence on artificial
cooling. By reducing heat loads at
the façade level, the system also
supports more efficient HVAC
operation.
Visual comfort is another critical
factor addressed by the system.
Integrated blinds allow controlled
daylight penetration, reducing
glare at the occupant level while
maintaining outside views. This
balance between daylight and
comfort is particularly important in
office environments, educational
institutions and healthcare facilities,
where excessive brightness or
contrast can affect productivity,
recovery and overall user experience.
The sealed configuration
also contributes to improved
acoustic insulation by limiting the
transmission of external noise
through the opening. In dense urban
environments, this added sound
reduction enhances indoor comfort
without the need for additional
treatments or secondary systems.
One of the key differentiators of
Eclipse Global’s solution is its virtually
maintenance-free operation and
long-term reliability. With no exposed
moving parts, the system is well
suited for hospitals, laboratories,
hospitality spaces and high-traffic
commercial environments where
minimal operational disruption is
essential. The system is available in
multiple configurations, including
manual and motorised operation,
allowing flexibility based on
functional and operational needs.
Beyond product design,
Eclipse Global’s strength lies in its
engineering-led manufacturing
and quality control processes.
With a dedicated manufacturing
base in India, the company
focuses on material durability,
precision assembly and consistent
performance under hightemperature
and high-usage
conditions typical of the region.
Its growing network of channel
partners supports project execution
across sectors and geographies,
ensuring technical coordination from
specification through installation.
As buildings increasingly prioritise
energy performance, occupant wellbeing
and lifecycle value, integrated
solutions that address multiple
challenges simultaneously are gaining
importance. By combining solar
control, durability, hygiene and design
compatibility within a single system,
Eclipse Global offers a practical,
performance-oriented response to
the evolving demands of modern
architecture.
With a clear focus on engineering,
reliability and real-world functionality,
Eclipse Global continues to
support architects, consultants and
developers in creating buildings that
manage light intelligently, improving
comfort, efficiency and long-term
operational performance.
