Hi everyone.
I’m so excited to welcome you to this fun packed ‘Your Voice. Our Club.’ edition of
your clubCREATE mag! I’m Imogen, your CREATE Captain, and I want you to know
something really important straight away… this is your club, and you belong here.
Your voice is special. It’s okay to share your ideas, your feelings, and your
stories, and it’s also okay to take your time. At CREATE, we listen, we care, and we
make space for everyone.
There’s lots of awesome stuff waiting for you inside this mag. Keep your eyes peeled
for the cheeky Easter Bunny! That sneaky bunny is hiding all through the mag, and if
you spot them all, you could win a yummy Easter hamper.
You’ll also read about something really special that happened recently, when
CREATE was gifted a Message Stick by Kuku Yalanji friends. It reminds us how
important it is to listen, learn, and walk together with respect.
You’ll also meet the amazing Chey-Anne, who shows that your story is your
story, and your future can be bright, strong, and full of choices.
Warm wishes,

clubCREATE Magazine is produced by
CREATE Foundation for children and
young people in care. This magazine
contains information about CREATE
programs that create a better life for
kids in care and also has articles and
artworks by clubCREATE members.
It’s really important to us that children

ensure their privacy. For safety
reasons state laws don’t allow the faces
of kids in care to be published without

understand that if these young people
are not reflective of the story or blurred
it is for safety and legal reasons. All
contributions to be considered for the

Walking Together:
A Special Message
Stick
CREATE is on a journey called
Reconciliation. It’s a big word
that’s all about learning,
listening, and respecting
Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander cultures.
Recently, CREATE was invited
on a special visit to Far North
Queensland by Kuku Yalanji
Elders and Traditional Owners
where CREATE was given a very
special Message Stick
VOICES IN ACTION
CONFERENCE 2026
Voices in Action is CREATE’s big
national conference where kids
and young people in care come
together with carers and adults
who make decisions about care.
It happens every two years and is
all about:
• Sharing your ideas and stories
• Learning from each other
• Helping make care better for
all kids
It’s a place where your voice really
matters, and together, we can dream
up new ideas to make life better for
kids and young people in care.
Our next conference will be held on
Larrakia Land in Darwin 1-2 October
2026. We’ll be sharing updates along
the way that spotlight young people
speaking up, being heard, and
leading change.
www.voicesinaction.create.org.au
The stick was made by Kuku
Yalanji artist Karleen and gifted
alongside Community Elder
Aunty Lizzie. It’s not just a stick
- it’s a work of art that shows
family, friends, community, and
travelling together.
The cool thing? The Message Stick
is going to travel all around
Australia! It will visit different
CREATE teams and big events,
helping us stay connected and
reminding us all about respect,
culture, and working together.
This is one important step as
CREATE keeps learning and
growing with its Reconciliation
journey — and there’s lots more to
come.

#SnapThatStigma
– what is it?
Have you ever heard someone
say something unkind about kids
in care? Or maybe you’ve seen
kids being treated unfairly just
because of where they live or
who they live with? That’s called
stigma - when people make
unfair assumptions about you.
#SnapThatStigma is
CREATE’s way of saying:
“Stop! Kids in care are
awesome!”
#SnapThatStigma
Challenge
It’s time to show the world what makes
YOU amazing!
8
Here’s how:
1. Think of one word that shows what
makes you amazing.
2. Example: BRAVE, FUNNY, KIND,
CREATIVE.
3. Draw it or write it. Make it as colourful
and fun as you like!
4. Share it with us (with a grown-up’s
help) or show it to your friends.
Draw yours here!

#SnapThatStigma
with Chey-Anne!
Meet Chey-Anne!
She grew up in foster care with
her twin sister, moving through
lots of homes and schools before
finding a safe and happy place.
Chey-Anne now works in roles
that help others, and she wants
to show kids that where you start
doesn’t decide your future.
She stands up to unfair ideas!
People often have wrong ideas
about kids in care. Chey-Anne
remembers being called
“difficult” when she was just hurt
and trying to be understood.
“I stopped listening
to what people said I
was and became who I
wanted to be.”
She didn’t let unfair words stop
her — and neither should you!
WHAT Chey-Anne
WANTS TO
SEE CHANGE:
Chey-Anne thinks the care system
can be better by:
• Giving kids emotional support
until they are really ready to live
independently
• Teaching carers how to
understand kids’ feelings
• Making sure kids have a home,
not just a bed
“Kids need carers who
listen, not just ones
who meet the minimum
standards.”
Her message to
young people:
She’s proud of her story and hopes it
inspires others to:
• Be proud of themselves
• Speak up
• Follow their dreams
Thank you, Chey-Anne, for
sharing your story and helping
us all #SnapThatStigma!
