A WEEKLY PRAYER GUIDE

FOR YOUR STREET AND

A 40 DAY PRAYER GUIDE FOR

A ‘SPIRITUAL AWAKENING’

IN YOUR STREET

AND THE UK.

This resource, was originally written in 2016 and was originally a printed

resource. This was perhaps one of our most popular resources to date.

We have updated it slightly, but it remains broadly the same.

DONATE TO

OUR WORK.

This prayer resource is free at the point of use. We encourage you to share it with others. It

does cost money to produce- staff time, design costs, our digital platform etc. We also want

to empower every Christian in the UK to PRAY for, CARE for and SHARE Jesus with their

neighbours, believing that we will see 5 new disciples of Jesus on every street in the UK. Will

you partner with us to bring God’s Kingdom as in Heaven, onto our streets?

To make donations stretch further, we use volunteers where we can. We conduct virtual

meetings where possible to reduce travel costs and produce online resources to keep costs

low and our resources free at the point of use. We believe we are very careful with any money

given to us. However, there is no doubt that more financial resources will propel the vision

forward and we are particularly looking for churches to donate regularly to our work.

HOUSES OF LIGHT

Formerly the Neighbourhood Prayer Network

until our name changed in September 2025.

Our formal name change with the charity

commission and Companies House was

completed on the 18th March 2026. We

have kept our original charity number and

company number.

Message from our founder and CEO.

The origins of Houses of Light started in the mid

1980s when I was about 8-9 years old. I was standing

at my window looking out at my road in Crumpsall,

Manchester, where I lived. It was a grey sky day, late

in the afternoon and it was already starting to get

darker. Apart from the odd light on in windows, you

could be forgiven for thinking the street was deserted

such was the lack of activity on the street. I remember

thinking that my Grandma, Edna Clapham was rightcommunity

was disappearing. I felt God say to me,

‘I am going to use you in the future to help change this.’

Sadly, when I turned 14, I became an atheist, believing

in the theory of evolution and science. At 19 while in

medical school, I had an encounter with God, that I

couldn’t easily dismiss, setting me off on a journey to

discover God, visiting many different denominations

and learning about Judaism, Islam and some other

beliefs. It wasn’t until I was 26 on an Alpha course that

I realized Jesus was God and it was only at an Easter

service in 2004, around the time the ‘Passion of the

Christ’ had come out, that I realized Jesus had died

personally for me. Almost immediately upon this

revelation, I felt God reminding me of when I was at

that window as a child, showing me people in houses

across the UK being visited with the Gospel message.

In 2007, I organized a 24-7 year of unbroken prayer in

Manchester under the supervision of Debra Green,

my church pastor and leader of Redeeming our

Communities, at the time known as ‘City Links.’ 134

churches of all mainstream denominations, took part,

including some independent churches.

In 2008, I was on the executive team as a volunteer for

HOPE08 in Greater Manchester, where I experimented

with ‘Neighbourhood Prayer Watch.’ In 2009, I met Carl

Brettle, my future husband, who encouraged me to

launch ‘Neighbourhood Prayer Network., we married

in 2010. In 2012 we officially became a charity and

launched at the National Day of Prayer and Worship

on 29th September 2012 at Wembley stadium being

their legacy partner and writing the book, ‘Neighbours,

Transform Your Street.’

And more recently, after some time out of ministry

raising my son Reuben, I have returned as CEO as of the

3rd January 2026, to complete ‘the assignment’ God

has given me. Under the direction of prayer, we changed

our name to Houses of Light to more accurately reflect

what God is calling us to do. However, it has to be said

that almost none of this would be possible without my

husband Carl, who put some of the basic structures in

place and was CEO from 2016 to 2025.

Our Vision

Is very simple. We want to see a ‘House of Light’ on

every street in the UK. A House of Light quite simply

is an individual Christian or household, committed

to PRAYING for their neighbours, CARING for their

neighbours and SHARING Jesus with our neighbours.

We are aiming to see at least 5 new disciples of Jesus

on every street where there is a House of Light- ideally

every street in the UK.

Beacons of Light are essentially 3 ‘Houses of Light’

that come together to pray for 3 streets, at least once

a week, with one of those weeks being a physical

meeting and the other three weeks being a virtual

meeting.

Light Connect groups are usually a ‘Beacon of Light’

that becomes a ‘missional community on a street,

aiming to reach out to neighbours more intensively for

example cooking meals for neighbours who are sick,

running Alpha courses on their street and discipling new

neighbours. Ideally these groups should run through

established churches rather than being independent.

The Light Connect groups are under development at

the time of writing and will emerge in time.

Ultimately our real goal is to see, street by street, the

nation returning to Jesus. Held within these pages, you

find 2 separate prayer guides, one that can be used

weekly and one that can be used over 40 days. We

believe that all evangelism begins in prayer, that as we

pray, we break ground, as we break ground, seeds are

sewn and if watered with more prayer, we can reap a

harvest.

We share CARE and SHARE suggestions every week in

our newsletters and in our website.

street.

IN THE LORD’S PRAYER,

WE ARE ASKED TO PRAY:

‘Your Kingdom Come, Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.’

I would like you to imagine for a moment, how different the UK might be, if this prayer was fully answered.

• If ‘God’s will were done,’ in our Nation, how would it change?

• What aspects of the UK does God rejoice over and what cause Him pain?

It is our hope that this guide will be a catalyst for encouraging more prayer, to see our streets, our postcode area

and our nation transformed!

There are two parts. It can be used in part or as a whole.

Part I: A week of prayer based around the Lord’s prayer, over a seven day period. Each day has a different theme.

These prayers are designed to last about an hour and may work as a prayer guide for a 24-7 prayer day or week.

Part II: Forty Days of prayer based upon, ‘praying through scripture.’ This section also encourages you to read and

meditate on the scriptures presented and to ask, ‘what is God saying to you or your church?’

Pray for Five Households regularly, that they will become Christians.

1:

2:

3:

4

5:

Please put a list of these 5 houses on your fridge door, every time you open the fridge, pray for these 5 homes

for at least a year. Also we ask that you pray the Lord’s prayer at midday every day, and pray this over your street

and all who live there.

George Otis behind the ‘Transformation videos” once told me that there are three aspects to prayer that produces

revival in all the transforming revivals he has seen:

Pray URGENTLY,

Pray SPECIFICALLY

Pray with EXPECTATION.

PART I

Monday: Work & Education

Our Father, who art in Heaven

Father, we thank You, for caring about every aspect of

our lives, including our work and school life. Help all to

come to know You as their Heavenly Father, through

Jesus Christ our Lord.

• For funding where development of schools,

businesses or organisations are needed.

• For jobs for those desperate for work, who cannot

find it.

• For those who work and yet struggle to put food on

the table or pay their bills because of poor pay.

• For Higher Education students to manage their

income and help them reduce the need for excessive

debts.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

Let Your name be honoured in Schools, Colleges,

Universities and in the workplace. In the everyday

conversations that take place in hallways, let your

name be held high and written in archways, doorways

and on walls.

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is

in Heaven

We bring before You…

•Children who go to school hungry because their

parents can’t afford to feed them or neglect to feed

them.

• Children who fail to achieve their potential, often

because they live in some of the most deprived

areas, have special needs or are experiencing great

difficulties at home.

• Victims of bullying, both in schools and in the workplace.

Bring restoration and healing and prevent

bullying from taking place.

• People who are brought to this country with the

promise of a better life, only to be forced into slave

labour. Reveal these situations to police and others

in authority and release the captives.

• All the places of work that are not only unsafe, but

damaging the health of workers.

• The massive debts students have when leaving

University or Higher Education.

• Poor staff morale in the work place.

Give us each day our daily bread

We pray…

• For schools, especially in some of the most deprived

areas, to have enough resources for children to learn

in a safe environment.

• For teachers with a passion for teaching and

compassion for every child.

• For the right amount of work to provide for the needs

of staff and organisations.

Forgive us our trespasses

Forgive us…

• When we have failed to represent You accurately in

our classrooms and in the workplace.

• When we have collectively ignored low standards

and not cared about sufficient resources available to

‘poorer’ schools, in some of the most deprived areas.

• When we have neglected to care about all children

regardless of where they live or where they come

from.

• When we have not represented You in the workplace,

shared what You have done in our lives or even

admitted that we follow You.

• When we have placed more importance on work and

earning money, than with spending valuable time

with children, as far as our work schedules allow us.

• For the times we have forgotten to ask for Your

guidance in the workplace or in our schools.

FOR A ‘SPIRITUAL AWAKENING’ IN YOUR STREET AND THE UK.

5

•For taking for granted at times, our opportunity to

learn and our gift of having a job, now or in the past.

As we forgive those who trespass against us

We forgive those…

• Who have bullied us at school or in the workplace.

• The boss who has ill-treated us, denied us

opportunities or just failed to notice or care for us.

• Colleagues where conflicts have arisen.

Lead us not into temptation

• For children to avoid the temptation to ‘mess around’

and neglect their studying or work less hard than

they could. May all children be motivated instead, to

reach their full potential.

• Help us all in the work-place to honour our

organisation, making the most of the time we are

expected to work and avoiding the temptation to be

‘second rate.’

• Help us all to avoid the temptation of inappropriate

relationships in schools or in work, or to hurt others

in the attempt to ‘get ahead.’

• Help students make wise decisions when they leave

home and avoid the many temptations of student life.

And deliver us from evil

Protect us from those who would deliberately harm or

exploit us, in schools, colleges and universities or in

the workplace.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory,

forever and ever Amen

Tuesday: Government & Economy

Our Father, in Heaven

Father, we thank You, that even those in the highest

positions in the land, can approach You for guidance

and wisdom. Help all in government positions and

leaders of businesses, know You, as their Heavenly

Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Hallowed Be Your Name

Let your name be held in high esteem in ‘Ten Downing

Street,’ ‘Westminster,’ ‘Whitehall,’ ‘Town Halls’ and

anywhere significant power and influence exists over

our laws and economy. Help all to show deference

and honour to You, and for our laws to reflect Biblical

teaching.

Your Kingdom Come, Your Will be done, on Earth as it

is in Heaven

We bring before You…

• All MPs, Councillors, CEOs, Economists, the Head of

the Bank of England and local business leaders; who

wrestle everyday with difficult decisions affecting the

lives of people locally or nationally. At all times let

them consider those on the margins of society: the

widows, the orphans, the fatherless, ‘the alien’ living

among us.

• The deep inequality within our nation as the gap

between the richest and the poorest gets wider, year

by year. Give inspiration to see a reversal of this trend.

• The ‘national housing crisis:’ expensive housing

and rising homelessness. Bring creative and ‘just’

solutions.

• The high obesity levels and record numbers needing

‘Foodbanks.’

• The ‘refugee crisis:’ As many seek safety in the UK as

asylum seekers or economic migrants, bring wisdom

in how to be both fair and offer hospitality, while

balancing resources and security risks.

• Our leaders: that they think about your perspective

when introducing new laws or policies.

Give us this day our daily bread

We pray for…

• Unemployment levels to fall.

• For the national debt to fall.

• For the economy to grow in a sustainable way that is

fair to everyone.

• For everyone to contribute in whatever way they can,

in helping our country to prosper, so that all citizens

may benefit and be generous to other countries in

need of assistance.

• Policy makers at the Bank of England, in government

and in business’ as they set budgets: help them to

provide jobs, fair wages, fair access and balanced

budgets, to all in society.

• For the environment: As the economy grows, let it

grow in a way that does not harm the environment or

disadvantage any group in society.

Forgive us our sins

• Forgive us as a Nation when we have not thought

enough about the impact of policies or business

plans on people’s everyday lives.

• Forgive us when corruption has influenced decisions

that are not in the best interests of the many, but the

few.

6

A WEEKLY PRAYER GUIDE FOR YOUR STREET AND A 40 DAY PRAYER GUIDE

FOR A ‘SPIRITUAL AWAKENING’ IN YOUR STREET AND THE UK.

• Forgive us for ignoring principles of social justice,

for encouraging the vulnerable to take on debts

they cannot afford, or simply leaving You out of the

equation.

As we forgive those who sin against us

• Help us as a Nation forgive those who take advantage

of our benefits system, so that those who really need

them ultimately suffer.

• Forgive those who have made some of us who are

disabled, genuinely unwell or genuinely in need,

feel excluded, marginalised and in some cases the

consequences have seriously damaged us.

• Forgive those who fail to thank those in government

and authority, when they try wholeheartedly to make

things better for others, constantly criticising, rather

than contributing to solutions.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

We pray for Christian men and women, drawn to a

career in politics, to avoid the temptation to abandon

their Christian faith or principles.

• All the victims of domestic violence, who silently

suffer in their homes each day.

• Those who are trafficked and hidden away on our

streets.

• Victims of violent crime, fraud, theft, anti social

behavior and we weep with them in their pain and

vulnerability.

• Police officers, the judges, the probation officers,

jurors, solicitors, who have seen things that they

should not have had to see. Bring healing to them.

• The widespread abuse of alcohol, drugs, legal highs

that fuel anti-social behaviour, violence, health

problems, crime and unwanted pregnancies.

• Hate crimes on the basis of religion, sexual orientation,

race, culture, and we ask for more love to be shown in

our communities.

• Fear in our communities, the no-go areas and the

sense of injustice.

• The threat of terrorism and religious extremism.

For all in government or in business, guide them in

everyday decisions. Help them not to base significant

decisions on the acquisition of money, status or power,

choosing always the right decisions for the majority of

people.

For the Kingdom, the power and the glory are Yours,

now and forever. Amen

Wednesday: Law and Order

Our Father, who art in Heaven

Father, we pray for those who have a poor relationship

with their Fathers or who had no father figure growing

up; Help all to come to know You through Your Son,

Jesus Christ.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

Among prisoners and wider society, Your name is taken

in vain. In prisons, youth centres, law courts, police

stations, probation offices; let your name be revered

and honoured.

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it

is in Heaven

We bring before You…

• All children who are victims of child abuse: physical,

neglect, emotional and sexual. Uncover crimes

against children and prevent them. Bring justice to

the victims and restoration and healing.

Give us each day our daily bread

• Help the legal system to be well resourced.

• For there to be enough Victim Support Groups,

Neighbourhood Policing Teams, other types of Police

teams, Probation Services and Legal Aid for those

who need it.

• Send people with a passion not only for fighting

crime, but preventing it.

• Help all officers of the law have the right training and

resources.

FOR A ‘SPIRITUAL AWAKENING’ IN YOUR STREET AND THE UK.

7

Forgive us our trespasses,

Forgive us…

• For turning a blind eye to the horror of child

exploitation that is coming to light and open our eyes

to the signs that it might be happening where we are.

• For not giving children opportunities to escape poverty

or opportunities for training and development, fueling

anti-social behavior.

• For the injustices victims of crime suffer, because

people have not been taken seriously.

• For any unfairness in the criminal justice system

because of prejudice.

• For the widespread use and permission of

pornography in our society and how this affects

young people’s view of sex and can contribute to rape

and issues about ‘consent.’

• For the violence on TV and in video games and the

impact this has on ’real life.’

• For not giving offenders a second chance in society.

As we forgive those who trespass against us

• Help us to forgive individuals and institutions that

have treated us unfairly, or directly caused us harm.

• Help us to forgive those who have ‘sinned’ against us

and caused us to become victims of crime.

Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil

Help judges, jurors, solicitors, police officers,

• To resist the temptation to be partial towards

people appearing before them, because of personal

prejudices.

• To be swayed to do the wrong thing on account of

the ‘value’ of a case or the status or influence some

judgments may bring.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory,

forever and ever Amen

Thursday: Arts, Culture, Media & Sport

Our Father in Heaven

Father, we pray that many involved in all forms of the

’Arts’ or Sports; Actors, Musicians, Writers, Artists,

and Sports men and women, will come to know You as

their heavenly Father, through Your Son Jesus Christ.

Hallowed Be Your Name

Let your name be honoured, when broadcast in

Newspapers, on TV, in Cinemas, in Sports Arenas, in

News report and in Books.

Your Kingdom Come, Your Will be done, on Earth as it

is in Heaven

We bring before you…

• All media outlets that have influence over people.

• The stories often presented that misrepresent both

You and Christians. Let truth, rather than distortions,

be presented.

• The image of Christians and anyone of faith, as they

are presented at the moment. Let there be positive

Christian role models presented.

• The role models that exist in Sport, on TV, in Theatres,

in Cinemas, the Radio, in Music, who set a bad

example for young people.

• The negative images that all people are seeing

through the news, influencing every sphere of life.

• The increasingly dark storylines across all mediums.

• The increase in ‘pornography’ in regular TV

programmes.

• The levels of violence in video games and on TV.

• All sports that people participate or watch in the UK.

Give us today our daily bread

lives, inspiring stories that bring joy and encourage

positive action.

• Bring positive role models into the media, to influence

all age groups.

• Bring resources and excitement to stories that

accurately portray You, Your Kingdom and ‘good’

things happening; that might positively influence,

inspire and excite a whole generation.

• Opportunities for Christians in Sports to share their

faith.

Forgive us our sins,

• Forgive us for consuming a diet of ‘Media,’ that is not

necessarily ‘good’ for us, that is violent, sexual and

glorifies evil.

• Forgive those of us who have had the inspiration to

make a contribution to the ‘Arts,’ but have lacked the

motivation to take things further.

• Forgive us for idolising ‘Pop stars,’ Actors, Films,

Music, Theatre, Books and Sport above You.

As we forgive those who sin against us

• Help us to forgive role models who have let us down,

who have been involved in criminal activity, shown

‘bad’ sportsmanship or behaviour.

• Forgive those who suggest fame and money are all

that is important and have influenced us in this belief.

Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil

• We pray for more Christians to enter into the ‘Arts’

and to make an impact for ‘good.’ Help all to resist the

temptations of fame, fortune and the trappings this

brings and through the ‘Arts’ and ‘Media’, influence

society for ‘good.’

• Help athletes not to use ‘performance-enhancing

drugs’ or cheat in the field of sport.

For the Kingdom, the power and the glory are Yours,

now and forever Amen

safe).

where numbers are declining. Bring all generations

into your churches.

• Churches working in the most deprived areas, with

the least amount of resources, struggling to minister

to the local community.

• Churches where division and discord reign and where

non-christians fail to see love coming from within the

church.

• Churches where there is open opposition to their

presence in communities.

• Churches failing to represent the neighbourhood in

which they live.

• Charities that are underfunded.

• Communities where there are few youth groups,

community centres, libraries and sports facilities.

• Charities struggling to cope with demand in their

chosen field.

Give us each day our daily bread

• Bring resources both financial and in the form of

activists and volunteers into churches that most need

the help; balancing churches which are resource rich

in more prosperous areas, with those most resource

poor in deprived areas.

• Bring volunteers and resources to charities and

community groups struggling to cope with demand.

• Encourage more Christians to ‘tithe’ to their local

churches and to give generously to local charities.

• Help councils to allocate resources fairly in

communities with most need and to see Christian

churches and charities as assets to them.

• Father, we pray for all of those who attend church, to

know You as their Heavenly Father and that they are

Your child. (John 1)

• That You are a Father who knows how many hairs are

on our head and cares about every aspect of our lives.

• We pray for all those in our churches and in charities

that are not-yet-Christians, come to know You as

Father through your son Jesus Christ.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

Let Your name be glorified, honoured and upheld in our

churches, in charities and in community groups.

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it

is in Heaven

We bring before You…

Forgive us our trespasses

• Forgive us for the times when we have acted as ‘a

consumer’ towards local churches, looking for what

we can get out of church, rather than what we can

put in.

• Forgive us for starving our churches of financial aid,

for travelling to ‘better churches’ in other areas and

neglecting the churches more local to us.

• Forgive us for our failure to welcome outsiders,

embrace necessary change or reflect the community

in which we live.

• Forgive us for when we have failed to see value in

non-Christian charities, or community groups and

have in any way competed.

• Forgive us for any false teaching, both known and

unknown.

As we forgive those who trespass against us

• Help us forgive those within church who have hurt or

damaged us, whether it was intentional or not.

• Help us forgive ourselves for our failing in our

relationships with others in our communities.

Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil

Help us to resist the temptation to insulate ourselves

from others, to see ourselves as better or worse than

other churches or organisations and to do things our

way, rather than Your way.

Protect us from division, gossip, false teachings and

leading others astray.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory,

forever and ever Amen

(Revelation 3:22) Amen

Day 2

Joel 2:12-32: God central to our life

Father, soften our hearts, so that we may return to You

with all our hearts. (Joel 2:12-13) Unite elders, children

those missing among us, especially those who have

wandered away; (Luke 15:4) perhaps those who once

hurts caused from within the church. Forgive us for

situations where we could have handled things in a

different way! Show us how we may help them back

into a relationship with You. Let there be rejoicing

in Heaven when they return and their lives are

transformed in a positive way! (Luke 15:7) Amen

Luke 15:11-31: Parable of the Lost Son

Father, we pray for all of those right now who are living

a life that hurts themselves and others and who are

not in relationship with You (Luke 15:12-13) Reveal to

them that You are a source of hope and comfort and

that they have sinned against You. (Luke 15:18) Help

them realise that you are desperate to meet with

them and that You are full of compassionate and love,

welcoming them with open arms. (Luke 15:20) Help

those who are dead, to become alive again, those who

are lost to be found. (Luke 15:24.) Help those who feel

for eternal life. John 4:36 Amen

Day 16

Luke 10:3-4: Sheep among wolves

Father, give us all wisdom, about what to say and not

to say, who to speak to and who not to speak to, how

to act or not to act. Help us to learn to trust you for

provision, for finance and any resources that we may

need, relying on You, rather than ourselves. (Luke 10:3-

4) Amen

Day 13

John 4:39-42: Many believe

Father, direct us to the ‘key people’ in our community,

WALKING GUIDE

PRAYER AND OUTREACH IDEAS.

PRAYING FOR

STREETS / ROADS

• Ask God what He is saying about a street. How does

He see it?

• Pray for anyone you see walking by. If you feel Jesus is

asking you, ask someone if they want prayer.

• Pray for the safety of all drivers, all cyclists and

pedestrians.

• Pray for all living on the street you are on, to come to

know Jesus.

• Pray for the blessing of God to come in abundance on

this street.

• For people to feel that there is a sense of community

on this street and for the lonely to find friendship and

love.

• For protection from anti-social behaviour, theft and

violence. For peace on our street.

Go the second mile

Matthew 5:38-42

‘You have heard that it was said, “Eye for eye, and tooth

for tooth.” But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If

anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the

other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and

take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone

forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.

Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away

from the one who wants to borrow from you.’

The context of going a second mile when someone

asked them to go one, was one where the Romans

would often force people to walk with them a mile.

How much more should we consider going the

extra mile, when Jesus asks us?
