A cleanroom is a room in which the concentration of airborne particles is kept very low. The lower the proportion of airborne particles in a room needs to be, the more important technology that guarantees the purity of the air becomes. presents functional complete solutions for cleanrooms.

Modular, individual, flexible: with the item system construction

kit, cleanrooms for different requirements can be

realized. How diverse these solutions can look in practice

is demonstrated by the company in the new item cleanroom

center (icc) in Solingen – from walk-in cleanrooms to machine

cabins with live airflow visualization to laminar flow

boxes with height-adjustable work tables.

of the X and XMS series, which offer closed outer surfaces, minimal

edge radius, and high chemical resistance. In combination with the

framing system and suitable surface elements, this creates cleanroom

walls and ceilings with seamless transitions.

Showroom open to visitors

With its new showroom, item Industrial Technology GmbH illustrates

how well-thought-out components for the cleanroom become

functional total solutions. Over an area of approximately 56 m², several

scenarios from pure production are combined. For example, a

6-meter-long walk-in cleanroom with an integrated personnel lock

and optical access control is included. Additionally, item shows a

machine cabin with linear unit, demonstrating how efficient and

ISO-compliant cleanroom automation can be achieved. The airflow

behavior within this machine cabin is visualized by an integrated fog

also get an impression of the quality, modularity, and adaptability of

the item system construction kit on site. Tours of the icc are possible

by appointment in advance. During the guided tour, a cleanroom

event that exceeded all expectations. LOUNGES 2026 has come to a

close, leaving behind an industry that is more inspired and connected

than ever before.

A record of superlatives

What began as anticipation ended in a veritable industry extravaganza:

with over 270 exhibitors and an impressive turnout of more

than 10,000 participants, LOUNGES 2026 impressively underlined

that it is the indispensable platform for dialogue between planning,

construction and operation. From the pharmaceutical industry to

highly specialised semiconductor manufacturing – the entire spectrum

of high-tech production was represented in Karlsruhe.

Knowledge you could touch

The concept of not just imparting knowledge, but making it tangible,

was a resounding success. The numerous interactive formats and

practical live demonstrations made it clear: Here, tomorrow’s trends

are not just discussed, but shaped.

Networking in a unique atmosphere

What has always set the LOUNGES apart reached a new level in

2026: that very special blend of a relaxed, almost family-like atmosphere

and the highest level of professionalism. In the lounges, it

wasn’t just business cards that were exchanged, but genuine partnerships

forged. It was the place where visionaries met decisionmakers

Looking ahead: 2027 already in sight

The cleanroom stock in the entire D-A-CH

region continues to grow as well. Although

somewhat more modest than in the German

lead market, it is still clearly upwardoriented.

Overall, the cleanroom area now

reaches around 3.6 million square meters.

This is the conclusion of the recently completed

update study “The German Cleanroom

Market 2026 (with D-A-CH excursus).”

But the study reveals more than just

rising figures – it also shows that the market

is currently reorganizing itself on different

levels.

Behind this growth lies a perceptible structural

change. Some of the major prestige

projects that determined the expected order

volume just a few years ago have been

postponed or partially canceled. At the same

time, a growing portion of new cleanroom

capacities is emerging in smaller and medium-sized

facilities. Parallel to this, the number

of individual operators is increasing,

while multi-site operators are growing less

strongly than before. The main reason lies

in changes along industrial supply chains.

More and more companies are compelled

to use cleanroom technology to meet requirements

for technical cleanliness or precise

production conditions. For many of these

new operators, however, lower cleanroom

classes are not about high-end specialization,

but about the most economical implementation

possible.

This is where a development begins that

could sustainably change the market. While

the cleanroom market was long characterized

by highly specialized solutions, a kind of

“trading down” can now be observed. Especially

in the rapidly growing ISO classes, new

capacities are increasingly emerging with

more standardized solutions. New operators

often do not turn to specialized cleanroom

builders, textile suppliers, or service providers

for cost reasons. Part of the market

growth is thus increasingly shifting outside

established provider structures, such as in

self-cleaning, general wall and ceiling panels,

or standard workwear.

At the same time, ISO-classified cleanroom

areas are gaining more and more importance.

The market is becoming broader and

more diverse because more and more industries

are deploying cleanroom technology

– from the semiconductor industry to

medical technology and new applications

in industrial manufacturing. An additional

noticeable trend is that cleanroom areas are

growing significantly faster than the number

of employees. The reason lies, also due

to the skilled labor shortage, in increasing

automation. Robotics or automated production

lines are taking over more and more

tasks, while companies simultaneously try

to reduce humans as potential contamination

sources in the cleanroom.

The landscape on the supplier side is also

changing. For a long time, the German cleanroom

market was considered dynamic

but stable – with solid customer relationships

and established supplier structures.

This phase now seems to be ending. Rising

production costs in Germany, weaker

development of key industrial sectors, and

more difficult export conditions are increasing

economic pressure on many operators.

Purchasing departments respond

with more competition, more tenders, and

a much stronger focus on cost. The cleanroom

market is thus gradually developing

into a more competitive sector, where providers

need to reposition themselves and

new players increasingly seek to gain market

shares.

How strongly this development is already affecting

the market can be seen by looking at

the individual submarkets of the cleanroom

market, which have now been analyzed in

detail in the current study. In the area of

cleanroom cleaning, regular re-tendering of

areas has long been routine. But now other

suppliers are also coming more into focus

for purchasing departments. This is particularly

evident in cleanroom textiles and

textile leasing. While in the past the primary

supplier of a cleanroom was often set over

many years, today more and more operators

regularly review and re-tender their supply

contracts. The market is thus increasingly

developing similarly to personal protective

equipment or traditional workwear.

The market structure is also changing in the

area of wall and ceiling panels. Especially in

large projects and public tenders, mechanisms

from the general construction sector

are being used more frequently. General

contractors and non-specialized cleanroom

planners are gaining importance and rely

more on suppliers and assembly companies

of the cleanroom shell within functional

planning. At the same time, the provider

landscape is differentiating further – between

manufacturers of highly specialized

cleanroom panels and providers of solutions

originating from other areas, such as cold

storage construction, which are increasingly

used in cleanroom construction as well.

In the market for cleanroom clothing, the

offerings continue to divide into single-use

and reusable products. In both segments,

increasing concentration among providers

is observed, especially in the reusable segment.

At the same time, the market is becoming

more international. International

providers are expanding their presence in

Germany, while German companies are increasingly

trying to establish themselves in

foreign markets.

The dynamics are also shifting in the area of

air filtration technology. Besides traditional

suppliers from the room air technology sector,

more manufacturers are emerging that

have developed solutions specifically for

cleanroom environments. Simultaneously,

providers of cleanroom shells are increasingly

trying to expand their value creation

by offering their own FFU systems, thereby

more strongly tying themselves to both the

project phase and after-sales business.

The new study thus provides not only an

update of the 2024 edition but also a significantly

expanded analysis of the cleanroom

market. In addition to cleanroom cleaning

and laundry, it also examines key submarkets

such as wall and ceiling panels, air filtration

technology, and textile cleanroom clothing

in detail regarding market volume, product

structures, and provider shares. A particularly

insightful result is that segments where

products need to be replaced regularly generate

significantly larger long-term market

volumes than those mainly involved in initial

cleanroom outfitting. This is evident, for

example, when comparing filter units and

FFU systems or single-use versus reusable

cleanroom clothing with their different replacement

cycles.

With this expanded perspective, the study

provides for the first time a particularly clear

picture of Europe‘s largest cleanroom market.

It shows where the market is actually

growing, where structures are changing –

and where new opportunities are emerging.

At the same time, it forms the basis for the

next step: market research is currently being

expanded at the European level to make the

international dynamics of this highly specialized

future market even more visible.

Regiolux equips new SpaceTech

At SpaceTech in Immenstaad, solar modules for satellites and laser

optical instruments for earth observation are produced – components

that determine the energy supply or the success of entire missions

in space. Accordingly, the requirements for the two company

buildings, which the company erected due to strong growth, were

very high. Architect, planner, and client sought from the beginning

a lighting partner who delivers object-specific solutions of the highest

quality and can respond flexibly to planning changes during the

construction phase. The choice was deliberately made for Regiolux,

as SpaceTech Managing Director Frank Gilles emphasizes: „We specifically

chose Regiolux as a German manufacturer to always ensure

high-quality LED lighting. Both in the office and in the cleanroom

where we manufacture our space components.“

Consistent concept for different areas of application

The lowea luminaire – available in square and rectangular

versions – promotes focused work and stands out for its clean,

Manfred Schwägler Elektrosysteme from Owingen planned and implemented

the lighting for both new buildings, working closely with

Regiolux. Together, they developed a concept that covers cleanroom

zones, manufacturing, administration, and ancillary areas equally.

Particularly advantageous for on-site installation were the plug-in

device modules, the through-wired SRT light strip system, the easyto-mount

details on all luminaires, and the DALI-compatible components.

They enabled quick installation and a smooth process.

Already in the first construction phase in 2021, it became clear

how flexibly the lighting manufacturer from Königsberg responds

to object-specific requirements: demanding were a wide-beam,

efficient hall lighting, cleanroom-compatible luminaires for sensitive

production zones, and reliable DALI integration. In the offices

above, a harmoniously coordinated ceiling lighting was to be used,

which is also ideal for screen workstations. The project manager of

the electrical specialist company relied on his good experiences with

Regiolux and took a holistic approach, relying entirely on Regiolux‘s

expertise for this demanding project. Around 90% of the Regiolux

luminaires were already installed in the first hall and convinced in

terms of quality and handling – a result that immediately led to a follow-up

order for the second hall. By the overall completion of the

project in 2025, a consistently coherent, practical, and economical

lighting concept was created.

Cleanroom quality and homogeneous manufacturing lighting

In the cleanrooms, the aduna luminaire with IP65 protection class

for high dust and water jet protection and multilayer light technology

is used. This optics ensures a particularly uniform, glare-free illumination,

which is necessary for visually demanding work on highly

sensitive components. The closed, cleanroom-compatible design

guarantees permanent tightness, particle protection, and easy cleaning

– essential prerequisites for controlled production processes.

In the other manufacturing areas, the quick-mount light strip

system SRT from Regiolux is installed. The plug-in device holders

with factory-integrated wiring enabled quick and safe installation.

The flexible segmentation of the light strips is particularly advantageous:

different work areas can be illuminated individually without

interrupting the uniform lighting concept. 10,000-lumen device holders

provide energy-efficient basic lighting that can be controlled as

needed via DALI.

Optimized lighting concept for administration

and technical areas

When the architects quickly chose visible acoustic ceilings for some

areas, Regiolux responded promptly with suitable luminaires from

the lowea product family. Where lowea surface-mounted luminaires

could not be used, lowea inset luminaires integrated flush into

the acoustic ceilings, providing glare-free, uniform light at technical

workstations and in offices. Installation-optimized details such as

an integrated suspension safety device for surface-mounted luminaires

and the additional push-feder locking in all versions significantly

facilitate installation.

Downlights from the relo series with diameters of 140 mm

and 190 mm evenly illuminate corridors, stairwells, and auxiliary

rooms, while their compact design and flexible mounting options

consider different ceiling heights. The variety of options across all

luminaire types from Regiolux allowed for a consistent and aesthetic

lighting concept in both buildings despite changes in ceiling

geometry.

Sustainability and efficiency in focus

The demand for freeze-dried parenterals in vials is steadily increasing.

This also applies to the contract manufacturer LYOCONTRACT,

which has been producing in Ilsenburg in the Harz since 2012. On

March 11, 2026, the company laid the foundation stone for one of the

largest investments in its history with a ceremonial groundbreaking:

approximately €50 million are allocated for expanding production.

The partner Syntegon was present, which will equip the new plant

with a complete line for filling and freeze-drying.

Strategic Partnership for Further Growth

„With the groundbreaking, we are paving the way for further growth,“

said Dr. Tino Galgon, Managing Director of LYOCONTRACT. „Our

goal is to establish LYOCONTRACT as a leading contract manufacturer

for sterile freeze-dried products at the highest quality level.“ To

achieve this, the plant will be gradually equipped with new equipment.

The first line is already planned, with delivery scheduled for

summer 2027. „For such an ambitious project, it is essential to have

the right partners by our side. With Syntegon, we receive the complete

line and all project management from a single source,“ Galgon

explained.

Seamless Solutions from a Single Source

„Since the portfolio integration of Syntegon and Telstar in October

2024, we have significantly expanded our offerings and can provide

our customers with comprehensive lines, reduced interfaces, and a

single point of contact throughout the entire lifecycle of the line,“

said Dr. Matthias Wagner, Managing Director of Syntegon Telstar, on

the occasion of the groundbreaking. „We are very proud that LYO-

CONTRACT trusts us, and we look forward to this partnership.“

Focus on Annex 1 Compliance and Flexibility

The new line will cover the entire process: in addition to the filling

and sealing system with integrated isolator, it includes a loading and

unloading system as well as a freeze dryer. Several requirements influenced

the decision. „We need a line that meets the regulatory requirements

of EU GMP Annex 1 from the start, offers the necessary

flexibility regarding products and container sizes, and ensures high

performance with minimal downtime,“ Galgon explained.

For Syntegon, this is the first vial project in Germany with integrated

freeze dryers, making it an important milestone for further

growth. „The feedback on the integration of Telstar has been very

positive. Several new customer projects worldwide have already demonstrated

why having a single partner makes a decisive difference,

both in terms of collaboration and technological implementation,“

Wagner said. „It is all the more gratifying to be able to demonstrate

these competencies together with LYOCONTRACT now.“

URS in GMP Monitoring:

Basis for Safety, Efficiency, and Compliance

A monitoring system without clear requirements? In GMPregulated

areas, this can become costly and risky. Learn why

a well-thought-out URS is the key to successful projects,

secure audits, and long-term compliance.

In regulated environments such as the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology,

clinics, and laboratories, a reliable monitoring system is

essential to ensure product safety, process stability, and legal compliance.

But before such a system is planned and implemented, a crucial

step is decisive: the creation of a User Requirement Specification

(URS) – user requirement specification (=specification document).

The URS clearly, precisely, and comprehensively defines what

the user expects from the monitoring system. This includes functional

requirements such as measurement parameters (e.g., particles,

temperature, humidity, differential pressure), interfaces to other systems,

alarm concepts, as well as requirements for redundancy, data

integrity, and GMP compliance. Non-functional requirements—such

as maintainability, user-friendliness, scalability, or calibration strategies—must

also be documented.

Why is this so important?

1. Basis for system selection and supplier evaluation:

Only with a URS can it be objectively assessed whether a system

or provider meets the specific requirements. Without it, there is a

risk of poor decisions that can lead to high costs and delays later on.

2. Avoidance of misunderstandings:

The URS creates a common language between operators, suppliers,

and possibly validation service providers. This ensures early

on that all parties pursue the same goals – an important building

block for smooth project execution.

3. Basis for qualification and validation:

In a GMP environment, qualification (e.g., design, installation,

functional qualification) is mandatory. The URS serves as a reference

document for all tests and validations – it is thus the legal and

technical backbone of any qualified monitoring system.

4. Evidence in case of audits:

Authorities such as the RP, EMA, or FDA expect traceable, documented

processes during system implementation. The URS demonstrates

that the company knows its requirements, has assessed

risks, and proceeds in a structured manner – a central aspect for audit

readiness.

Conclusion:

The URS is not a bureaucratic self-purpose but a strategic tool for

safety, efficiency, and compliance. Companies that invest early in a

well-thought-out requirement specification save time, money, and

nerves during the project – and lay the foundation for a future-proof

monitoring system.

Optical cleanliness and microbiological hygiene are two

different states. This difference is obvious in the pharmaceutical

industry and medical technology – but it is

systematically underestimated in commercial enterprises,

offices, and administrative buildings. With measurable

consequences: misclassified cleaning needs, lack

of documentation, and incomplete proof chains in case

of damage.

companies rely on standard maintenance cleaning in

their controlled gray zones, even though regulatory requirements

(IfSG, TRBA) and the risk of cross-contamination

strictly demand professional disinfection.

What maintenance cleaning provides

– and what it does not

Maintenance cleaning has a clearly defined task: it

removes visible dirt, dust, and coarse contaminants. The

standard is optical cleanliness. The cleaning agents used

are commercially available and not intended for germ

reduction – nor do they need to be, provided the cleaned

surfaces do not require increased hygiene standards.

The problem arises when maintenance cleaning is

used in areas that require microbiological hygiene. In

sanitary areas, canteens, medical-related rooms, or after

contamination events, removing visible dirt is not

enough. Pathogenic germs – bacteria, fungi, enveloped

viruses – remain active on surfaces even if they appear

visually flawless.

Hygiene cleaning: definition,

requirements, proof obligation

Hygiene cleaning aims at the demonstrable reduction of pathogenic

germs on surfaces and in the room air. It is not an optional addition

to maintenance cleaning but an independent service with specific

requirements for agents, personnel, and documentation.

The central criterion is the choice of disinfectant. Only preparations

listed in the VAH disinfectant list or the RKI list are considered

professionally suitable for use. These lists verify products for proven

effectiveness against bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and viruses – with defined

contact times and concentrations that must be strictly adhered

to.

Which areas require hygiene cleaning

The classification of an area as requiring hygiene measures depends

not on the size or industry but on the actual contamination risk and

the applicable legal regulations.

Areas with increased hygiene needs in commercial properties:

– Sanitary areas and changing rooms – regardless of company size

– Canteens, break rooms, and all areas with food contact

– Medical-related facilities: doctor’s offices, care facilities,

pharmacies

– Areas after contamination with bodily fluids or infection events

– Childcare facilities and schools

– Production areas with hygienic requirements (food,

pharmaceuticals, medical)

Standard offices are not automatically excluded. High-contact surfaces

such as keyboards, door handles, elevator buttons, and communal

areas show germ loads that, after illness events or on the order

of the occupational health doctor, require targeted hygiene cleaning.

Cross-contamination: the underestimated risk in daily cleaning

Cross-contamination refers to the unintentional transfer of germs

from one surface to another – via cleaning tools that are not used

area-specifically. In practice, this is the most common mistake in

commercial cleaning processes. An optically clean surface can thus

become a bridge for germ load, which can cause problems in the

next audit or, worse, in the cleanroom batch.

visually clean afterwards. Without a color-coding system and clear

zone rules, cross-contamination is everyday in almost every facility.”

Effective prevention requires structural measures

in the cleaning process:

– Color-coded cleaning cloths per zone (at least three colors:

santary / kitchen / office)

– Disposable cloths in risk areas – no reuse after contact

with contaminated surfaces

– Mopping mop change after each room in hygiene-sensitive areas

– Glove change between zones with different contamination risks

– Written zone plans in the cleaning protocol

Documentation: why it’s crucial in case of doubt

Hygiene cleaning without verifiable documentation is legally worthless.

Neither health authorities, courts, nor insurance companies

accept oral statements as proof of proper disinfection.

This is not a theoretical risk. Companies in sectors with legal

documentation requirements – gastronomy, care, food processing,

childcare – must be able to immediately prove during inspections

that hygiene cleaning was performed professionally and with listed

agents. Without this proof, fines, operational bans, or civil liability

threaten.

Minimum content of verifiable hygiene documentation:

– Date, time, and duration of the procedure

– Name and qualification proof of the disinfectant operator

– Used disinfectant with batch number and delivery note

– Concentration and contact time according

to VAH / RKI specifications

– Treated surfaces and room areas in square meters

– Signature of the responsible disinfectant operator

Case study: what happens when the boundary is ignored

The following scenarios can be exemplified based on a typical damage

case from operational practice – similar to what repeatedly occurs

in commercial canteens.

Case study: Canteen of a Stuttgart machinery manufacturing

company

Initial situation

A medium-sized machinery manufacturing company with around

120 employees in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commissioned an external

cleaning service provider for daily cleaning over the years – including

explicitly the company canteen. The contract simply mentioned daily

cleaning without differentiating between maintenance and hygiene

cleaning.

The trigger

In autumn 2023, within three days, 14 employees fell ill with identical

symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. The Stuttgart health department

initiated a routine inspection. Swab samples from the canteen

work surfaces showed a germ load well above permissible limits – including

coliform bacteria on the cutting board and coffee machine.

What the inspection uncovered

The cleaning service used common all-purpose cleaners – not a single

VAH-listed disinfectant was used. No cleaning documentation

existed. The cleaning staff used the same cloths for toilet areas and

kitchen work surfaces – without a color-coding system or training.

The scope of work was simply maintenance cleaning – in an area that

legally required hygiene cleaning.

The consequences

The health department ordered an immediate closure of the canteen

for four working days. The company had to hire a professional hygiene

cleaning firm to disinfect all surfaces and submit a new cleaning

concept with verified documentation. The economic damage – operational

interruption, emergency service, regulatory requirements –

amounted to over 8,000 euros according to internal estimates. Additionally,

there was damage to reputation within the workforce.

What was changed afterwards

The company completely revised the cleaning contract. The canteen

was explicitly designated as a hygiene area. Since then, only VAHlisted

disinfectants are used, with a color-coding system with three

zones (kitchen / sanitary / office) and comprehensive hygiene docu-

mentation with the signature of the disinfectant operator. The five

control questions at the end of this article – had the company asked

them before the incident, the damage could have been avoided.

Five self-assessment questions for commercial enterprises

The following checklist helps facility managers and operations

managers assess their own cleaning standards:

– Are hygiene-sensitive areas explicitly designated as hygiene

cleaning – not maintenance cleaning – in the cleaning contract?

– Does the service provider demonstrably work

with VAH- or RKI-listed disinfectants?

– Is there verifiable documentation of each hygiene cleaning

that can be immediately presented during inspections?

– Are color-coding systems, zone plans, and cross-contamination

prevention written into the cleaning protocol?

– Does the service provider have verifiable qualifications

– for example, as a certified disinfectant operator?

review the existing cleaning contract before the health department

or a liability case does so.

Ultracompact, highly precise positioning solution for DUV lithography

From the spindle to the assembly

When it comes to highly specialized, customer-specific

positioning solutions, Steinmeyer is the go-to provider.

Complementary polarization filter for DUV lithography

A prime example of the high innovation power of the Steinmeyer

Group is the ultra-compact, highly precise positioning solution for

wafer exposure in dry, oxygen-free nitrogen atmosphere. It is a complementary

polarization filter for miniaturization and automation in

DUV lithography. „DUV lithography uses deep-ultraviolet light with

wavelengths of 193 or 248 nm and enables particularly small structure

sizes in microchips,“ explains Elger Matthes, development and

product management at Steinmeyer Mechatronics, and continues:

„Our task was to develop a retrofittable filter unit for a wafer stepper

to adjust the optical properties of the light beam,“ he says. „Since the

assembly was designed as an optional add-on for integration into an

existing machine, we had very limited space available. Other requirements

included minimal adjustment ranges, stability at standstill

– the setting should only need to be changed every few minutes – as

well as specific specifications regarding speed, repeatability, and lifespan.“

Ultra-compact, highly precise, and dry-running assembly

The polarization filter realized by the Steinmeyer Group is built with

dimensions of approximately 120 x 180 x 31 mm, making it extremely

compact. Three flat filters are housed within a height of just 15 mm,

which can be shifted in the optical path of the system and are independently

positionable. The relative positioning of the three filters

determines the desired filter property. The drive is implemented via

a lead screw drive (stroke 75 mm) and electronically commutated DC

motors. Each filter has its own drive train, which is protected from

DUV radiation with a steel cover. The system operates dry, achieves

accuracies of up to 1.5 µm, and offers maintenance-free, flexible 24/7

operation over many thousands of positioning cycles (spread over

10 years).

Material selection challenge

Material selection poses a particular challenge for semiconductor

applications. Smooth surfaces, low outgassing, and minimal particle

generation are required. Only certain materials, components, and

lubricants meet these requirements. Often, the use of liquid lubricants

is not possible – as in this specific application. Elger Matthes

also points out another aspect: „In the ultra-dry nitrogen in which

the assembly should operate, similar tribological effects occur as in

high vacuum. Friction coefficients above 1 are common. This further

restricts the material palette – especially if good sliding properties

and a meaningful lifespan of the lead screw are to be achieved.“

Extremely particle-free running precision lead screw

from Feinmess Suhl

The choice for the lead screw was a combination of stainless steel

(spindle) and high-performance plastic PEEK (nut), which was reinforced

with lubricating fillers. This innovative material pairing enables

optimal sliding, heat dissipation, and mechanical stability even

under the extreme environmental conditions of DUV lithography.

„Due to its molecular structure, PEEK is chemically and physically

very stable. The high-performance plastic has very low outgassing

values and is considered an ideal choice for the demanding applications

of the semiconductor industry,“ says Detlef Rode, development

manager at Feinmess Suhl. „Of course, we proved the concept for

this material pairing, so the customer had absolute certainty regarding

feasibility.“ The system operates without liquid lubricants and

is therefore ideal for dry operation up to cleanroom class ISO 3 and

10E-9 mbar.

The material pairing of PEEK plus stainless steel for the linear

drive is also reflected in the guide system. The V-shaped guide

grooves are made of stainless steel, and the sliding elements, i.e.,

the bearings, are made of PEEK. Aluminum parts are coated with a

deep-ultraviolet-absorbing anodized layer.

Unique development and manufacturing expertise

The extremely particle-free running linear drive was developed specifically

by Feinmess Suhl for this application. With a spindle diameter

of only 3 mm and a spindle length of 112 mm, it is among the

smallest on the market in this precision class. „Linear drives are perfect

for DUV polarization filters. Size plays an important role because

such small dry-running ball screws are currently not technically

feasible,“ explains Detlef Rode. Additionally, the linear drive (thread

size M3x1P0.5, pitch 1 mm, load 2 N) offers further advantages. It

is relatively simple in design, extremely robust, and characterized

by high stiffness, precise form and dimensional accuracy, and low

wear. An additional benefit: linear drives have a self-locking feature,

meaning the nut position on the spindle is maintained by static

friction. No separate braking component is needed. This is ideal for

increased stability requirements over a long period. Since the three

filters in the assembly are moved rarely and only slowly when they

are moved, this setup was perfect. Feinmess Suhl manufactures the

two-start dry-running linear drives using thread rolling or thread rolling

processes. This chipless process creates the thread form by cold

forming. The result is a high-quality surface finish at an extremely

economical price-performance ratio.

Small, compact, precise, dry-lubricated, reliable, durable, low-maintenance:

the polarization filter fully meets the demanding requirements

of DUV lithography. The linear drive proved to be the key

component during development and design. It is the heart of the assembly

and makes the small dimensions possible. „We developed the

linear drive for a specific customer project, but of course, other highend

applications in semiconductor technology also benefit from the

unique properties of the spindle. A wide range of options allows for

individual customization,“ emphasizes Detlef Rode.

The development of customer-specific linear drives is one of Feinmess

Radiopharmaceuticals: A demanding and very efficient class

Why did the Truking engineers select the Stäubli TX2 Stericlean for

this demanding application? There is more than one reason. One

important point is their ability to work in sterile pharmaceutical environments.

The Stericlean designation means the robots can work

under aseptic conditions, which includes being cleaned with detergents

withstand vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) sterilization, these

Maba: New

technical plant

for coating flexible

materials in the

cleanroom

Maba-Spezialmaschinen GmbH (www.maba-spezialmaschinen.

de) has commissioned a pilot plant capable of applying coatings

less than 100 nanometres thick evenly and without loss to flexible

materials.

Within nine months, a universally applicable coating system –

primarily for films and other plastic products, including dosing,

conveyor technology and a drying system – was developed with

an investment of 250,000 euros. With a maximum processing

width of 300 millimetres, it is used for producing samples and

testing new, liquid, functional coatings under cleanroom conditions.

Very thin layers and loss-free application are expected to

significantly reduce costs.

Capillary coating is a technology that, in addition to precise dosing,

offers the advantage over conventional methods of being

able to apply reactive multi-component systems to surfaces at

high processing speeds. This gives the materials new functions

such as printability, scratch resistance or electrical conductivity.

The range of functional coatings is diverse: it includes specialised

antibacterial packaging films, holographic films, flat displays, flame-retardant

plastic films, membrane technology, UV-protective

coatings, biologically reactive coatings, organic light-emitting

diodes and polarisers.

KI-now receives five million euros until 2029

The Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional

Development and Energy is funding the Schweinfurt

Research and Transfer Center KI-noW with an additional

nearly five million euros until the end of 2029. With a new

focus on AI-supported simulations, the KI-noW continues

to support companies in digital transformation.

An unusual noise is enough for an experienced employee to know

which wear part needs to be replaced on their machine. However,

many of these sought-after specialists are currently retiring. Because

production managers naturally still want to avoid scrap and machine

downtime, they are forced to find alternative solutions – with artificial

intelligence.

Exactly this step is currently being taken by the two mediumsized

companies KLT Hummel Plastic and Retrofit Plastics. The

former produces plastic components in Schweinfurt, while the latter

manufactures and repairs extrusion systems and components or

prepares them in nearby Oberstreu. Together with a research team

from KI-noW, the two companies are developing AI models that can

detect wear and quality defects early on, using comparatively little

machine data.

Questions surrounding digitization and artificial intelligence

“The algorithms we developed using meta-learning methods can be

transferred to similar machines, materials, and production processes

with just a few targeted adjustments. This means they could be used

in other machines, companies, and industries with little effort in the

future,” says Christoph Hoffmann. Hoffmann heads the research

and transfer center “Artificial Intelligence for Sustainably Optimized

Value Creation” (AI-noW) in Schweinfurt, an external branch of the

Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation

IPA.

Since its founding in October 2020, the research team at KInoW

has generally dealt with questions around Industry 4.0, digitization,

and the integration of artificial intelligence into production:

How do you access machine data? How do you prepare this data

to make it usable for machine learning methods? And of course:

How can the problems caused by AI on a system be translated into

clear, understandable action recommendations for the machine

operator?

This is reason enough for the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic

Affairs, Regional Development and Energy to continue funding

KI-noW with an additional nearly five million euros until the end of

2029.

In the second funding phase, which began on January 1, 2026, the

KI-noW research team aims to focus more on AI-supported simulations.

“While that will be our main focus, we will continue to address

questions from companies related to production and beyond,”

Hoffmann says. And openness to companies from other regions of

Bavaria will remain: “Industries in other parts of the country are also

in the midst of transformation, and we want to support them with

advice and assistance,” Hoffmann adds.

Future focus on AI-supported simulations

In this way, KI-noW contributes to strengthening regional competitiveness

and securing jobs in the long term – primarily in the

Schweinfurt region, but fundamentally also in all other parts of Bavaria.

In addition to successfully implementing numerous industrial

projects and publicly funded research collaborations, researchers

led by Hoffmann have conducted twelve case studies on digitization

and AI in production over the past five years, built 19 demonstrators,

The work at the SMC Campus in Egelsbach is progressing on schedule. Over an area of

approximately 32,700 square meters, a modern site is being developed that combines

product development and the implementation of customized customer solutions under

one roof. With the current construction phase, the foundation is being laid for the future

buildings, thus creating the basis for a project that emphasizes sustainability and networking.

The campus will include several buildings, including a technical center, office and administrative

areas, as well as a central complex that will also be accessible to customers.

All units are designed to be interconnected. This concept aims to facilitate exchange and

collaboration among teams and to ensure short distances for all employees.

With an investment of around 50 million euros, SMC affirms its long-term commitment

to the Germany location. „This project is more than a construction project. It is a

Hardware for humanoid robots:

New perspectives for industrial

value creation in Europe

Together with the consulting firm P3, the Fraunhofer IPA has investigated how

component manufacturers could benefit from producing hardware parts for humanoid

robots. The results are available free of charge in the white paper „The

Humanoid Hardware Value Chain: Can the European Manufacturing Industry

Capitalize on the Humanoid Momentum?“

The pace at which humanoid robots are

currently developing is rapid. The predicted

growth potentials are massive, and they are

poised to surpass or even replace the automotive

industry in market potential. In the

media and at trade shows, they are showcased

as a prime example of „embodied AI,“

meaning a complete integration of artificial

intelligence (AI) processes with machine

components or entire systems. The markets

in the USA and Asia are particularly in focus,

where both software and hardware are

advancing rapidly.

However, there are also many activities

in Europe. Additionally, the manufacturing

industry in this region must undergo structural

change. Therefore, the question arises:

How can the local industry benefit from this

booming technology and possibly open up

new markets? A team of authors from the

Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology

and Automation IPA and the consulting

firm P3 has addressed this question. In

the now-published white paper, they examined

the role of the hardware of these robots

and why manufacturing companies in Europe

should be highly interested in this area.

Because despite advances in AI, hardware

components largely determine the

economic efficiency, reliability, and scalability

of humanoid robots. Currently, standardized

hardware architectures are lacking.

Moreover, important components for this

type of robot, such as actuators, gearboxes,

batteries, and sensors, only partially meet

industrial requirements regarding robustness,

lifespan, and cost structure.

This market gap, combined with the very

positive market forecasts mentioned at the

beginning, presents a great opportunity. An

early entry into the underlying value chain is

therefore relevant for companies that have

long-standing extensive expertise in automation,

mechatronics, and industrial manufacturing.

To better assess the market potential,

the team of authors analyzed the value

chain of humanoid robot hardware for

sensing, actuation, as well as structure and

energy, and developed a bottom-up cost

model. The cost model was applied to three

scenarios and enables a structured comparison

of low-cost, mid-priced, and high-end

humanoid configurations. It also illustrates

how different hardware decisions impact

overall system costs. The analysis highlights

hardware components that dominate total

expenses and pose the greatest challenges

for cost-efficient scaling, especially for humanoid

systems intended for continuous

industrial operation. Flexible hands are currently

the biggest bottleneck.

New advanced interconnect PDKs pave the way for high‐density,

energy‐efficient chip‐to‐chip integration.

NanoIC opens access to first-ever

fine-pitch RDL and D2W hybrid bonding

interconnect PDKs

On 2nd March 2026 the NanoIC pilot line, a European initiative

coordinated by imec and dedicated to accelerating

innovation in chip technologies beyond 2nm, released two

first-of-a-kind advanced interconnect process design kits

(PDKs): a fine-pitch redistribution layer (RDL) and dieto-wafer

(D2W) hybrid bonding PDK. These early-access

PDKs bring advanced packaging capabilities within reach of

universities, start‐ups, and industry innovators and mark an

important step in enabling high‐density, energy‐efficient

chip‐to‐chip connectivity.

As the semiconductor industry moves toward ever more complex

and heterogeneous system architectures, advanced packaging has

become a key enabler in supporting this progress. Instead of merely

enclosing individual chips, today’s packaging technologies bring

multiple dies (chiplets) together into tightly integrated systems where

performance, energy efficiency, and bandwidth hinge on how

effectively those components can interact. By enabling chiplets to

be interconnected at high density, advanced packaging provides the

foundation for the next generation of high‐performance computing,

AI accelerators, and data‐intensive applications.

To enable universities, start‐ups, SMEs, and industrial players

to turn these concepts into practical designs, NanoIC today releases

the first version of its fine-pitch redistribution layer (RDL)

and die‐to‐wafer (D2W) hybrid bonding process design kits (PDKs).

These PDKs, built on the NanoIC pilot line, give designers early access

to the design rules and validated building blocks needed to explore

high‐density chip‐to‐chip integration.

Fine‐pitch RDL PDK: high‐density routing

on polymer‐based substrates

The fine‐pitch redistribution layer (RDL) PDK introduces a new

way to achieve high‐density chip‐to‐chip connections using polymer‐based

substrates. Traditionally, these substrates could not support

extremely fine lines, limiting their use in advanced packaging.

Imec’s technology, developed within the NanoIC project, overcomes

this barrier by enabling exceptionally small‐pitch interconnects in a

polymer‐based RDL, offering capabilities that go beyond what leading commercial

fabs provide today. With line widths and spaces down to 1.3 microns and microbump

pitches as tight as 20 microns, the RDL PDK gives designers access to

interconnects that can improve communication speed by up to 40% and reduce

energy per bit by as much as 15%, on a UCIe-Advanced die-to-die interface. As a

result, fine‐pitch RDL becomes an appealing integration option for a wide range

of emerging applications, from automotive and high‐performance computing to

next‐generation GPU architectures.

D2W hybrid bonding PDK: ultra‐dense die‐to‐die 3D connections

D2W hybrid bonding adds a second powerful integration technique by enabling

extremely compact, direct connections between dies using the third dimension.

Instead of relying on traditional copper bumps, hybrid bonding forms direct oxide‐to‐oxide

links between the CMOS die and the package interface. This eliminates

the parasitics associated with copper bumping and enables low‐loss,

energy‐efficient communication pathways.

With its ability to create ultra‐dense, high‐bandwidth chip‐to‐chip links, the

D2W hybrid bonding PDK is particularly suited for AI applications, advanced

computing platforms, and high‐performance GPU architectures.

An important step toward full tape-out capabilities

With this release, imec becomes the world’s first to offer easy‐access interconnect

PDKs at these integration levels and dimensions. This initial “exploratory

version” provides the essential tools designers need to begin assessing the technology:

systematic layout creation, automated and custom routing, and design

rule checks.

“This first release is a pathfinding PDK,” Nicolas Pantano, head of the demonstrator

architect team at imec, explains. “It gives researchers, start‐ups, and

companies the essential tools to start designing, testing ideas, and providing

feedback. As the PDKs mature, they will grow from exploratory design kits into

complete, fabrication‐ready toolsets with tape‐out capabilities, enabling designers

to take a layout created with these PDKs and have it physically manufactured

on the pilot line, validating their concepts in silicon, not just in simulation.”

With the launch of these two interconnect PDKs, NanoIC expands its offering

to a total of five publicly accessible process design kits. Following earlier releases

of the N2, A14, and eDRAM PDK, the introduction of the fine‐pitch RDL

and D2W hybrid bonding PDKs marks the next milestone in building a complete

beyond‐2nm design toolkit, spanning logic, memory, and now also interconnect

technologies. To support hands‐on exploration, NanoIC also hosts a dedicated

workshop on the RDL and D2W PDKs on May 27, 2026. All practical details are

available on the NanoIC website.

Suitable for controlled production environments

TB30R: Modular conveying

technology for certified

cleanroom applications

In sensitive production areas such as the pharmaceutical, medical,

or plastics industries, conveyor technology is an essential part of the

cleanroom concept. Material flows must be stable, reproducible, and

compliant with standards. The cleanroom conveyor belt TB30R offers

Montech a solution specifically developed for use in controlled

and certified cleanroom environments.

The system is based on the modular TB30 concept and is available in

two versions: as a mid-drive variant and as a head-drive version for

particularly high purity requirements. Selected variants have been

tested by the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and

Automation IPA according to ISO 14644-14 and are suitable for defined

cleanroom classes.

Conveyor belt TB30R with mid-drive

– Suitable for cleanrooms of ISO classes 5 and 6

The TB30R conveyor belt with mid-drive is suitable for applications

in cleanrooms of ISO classes 5 and 6.

Thanks to its modular design, the conveyor can be configured

individually. Conveyor widths between 80 and 250 millimeters and

lengths up to 3,000 millimeters allow flexible integration into various

plant layouts. Also, subsequent adjustments such as extensions or

shortenings are simple and cost-effective to implement.

The belt used is suitable for cleanroom environments and additionally

approved according to FDA. Therefore, the mid-drive variant

is particularly suitable as an infeed and outfeed belt in individual

manufacturing systems or for linking entire production processes.

Conveyor belt TB30R with head-drive

– Suitable for cleanroom class ISO 4

For production areas with particularly high cleanliness requirements,

Montech offers the TB30R variant with head-drive. This

version is designed for cleanroom class ISO 4 and is suitable for

applications where the highest standards of environment control

apply.

Like the mid-drive variant, the head-drive model is based on

the modular TB30 system and allows flexible adaptation to different

production processes. It is also used as an infeed and outfeed belt or

for integration into complete manufacturing lines.

MiniTec automates cleaning system from HMT with

eight Motoman robots by Yaskawa

Automation that

has proven itself

To better respond to fluctuating order volumes, the specialist

HMT has automated a cleaning system for industrial

parts from MiniTec more extensively – with clear success.

„Not just clean, but pure“ was once the promise of a well-known detergent

commercial. A similar claim is also made by HMT – Häseler

Metalltechnik GmbH from St. Georgen – when it comes to cleaning

technical components. The company, founded in 1983, specializes

in stamping and forming technology as well as component cleaning

for very high technical cleanliness requirements. Its customers are

mainly in the automotive sector. The parts are mostly stamped components

that come into contact with electrical components and circuit

boards.

Joachim Hölzl, the company‘s Managing Director of Technology,

speaks of an all-in-one solution that HMT offers: „We have stamping

and cleaning completely under one roof on 12,500 square meters.

Our range of services extends from stamping, forming, and deep drawing

to component cleaning – including residual dirt analysis in our

own laboratory. We are capable of fulfilling almost any customer request.

The foundation for this is our own toolmaking, a modern machine

park, and dedicated employees with in-depth knowledge. Our

processes and procedures meet the highest automotive standards.“

Fluctuating order volume as a challenge

HMT operates two cleaning systems. Under normal load, work is

done in two shifts, enabling the throughput of around 40 million

components per year. Previously, many activities in the cleaning process

were performed manually by employees. But the general labor

shortage became increasingly noticeable. Collaboration with staffing

agencies also did not provide a satisfactory solution. The reason

was the volatile weekly changes in order volume, as Joachim Hölzl

explains: „This made reasonable resource planning difficult – and

also reacting quickly to new conditions. One week, the demand rises,

and by the time we have integrated the capacities through personnel,

the week is almost over.“

For the future, Hölzl wished for more reliable planning and control,

and more flexible responses to capacity fluctuations. This goal

was to be achieved through increased automation – focusing on the

loading of transport racks with parts for the cleaning process and

their subsequent removal.

Automation for more flexibility

Initially, a team of internal specialists, led by Tobias Seemann, Head

of Automation at HMT, worked together. They performed an ABC

analysis of the components and discussed possible solutions. Hölzl

explains: „We built our own internal laboratory and started with a

training robot for initial experiments. The results were very impressive.

We then contacted Yaskawa, who provided us with one of their

robots for the next steps. Once we were confident about the feasibi-

lity, we sat down with MiniTec as system integrator. We presented

our visions to automation expert Peter Müller and discussed how

the system could look based on our specifications and requirements.

He then developed a concept for implementing the solution, and the

project moved into execution.“

The result was a highly complex system where the removal of

cleaned components and their storage and retrieval are fully automated.

The design with two identical removal stations ensures sufficient

capacity. A total of eight Motoman GP12 robots handle the removal

of parts from the carriers. The GP series robots are characterized

by high speeds, accelerations, and repeat accuracy. The entire

system is coupled with a fully automated storage system. The system

measures 20 m x 10 m, making it quite extensive.

Current process

The components to be cleaned arrive at HMT in various packaging

types (grid boxes, wooden boxes, cartons, etc.). At the intake station,

they are still manually removed from the containers and fixed onto

cleaning fixtures.

Then, the system retrieves the fixtures from the buffer storage.

They pass through the cleaning process over a hanging conveyor in

different zones along a 60-meter length. From there, they go into the

drying room, then into the cooling chamber, and finally into the cleanroom.

Depending on the technical specifications of the components,

the cleaning fixture either remains there for removal or proceeds

further into the cleanroom, where the robotic removal stations

are located.

Since the components can still move during the cleaning process,

there can be a discrepancy of one grip between different removal

points. Therefore, a camera inspection is performed here to

determine the coordinates, ensuring the components are correctly

positioned in the KLT containers. This guarantees that the order of

components is maintained when passing to other departments.

Thought-out control system

The loading process involves assigning a barcode to each cleaning

fixture, indicating which parts it contains and to which removal station

it must go. At the removal station, item-specific information is

transmitted via an interface between the cleaning system and the

robot cells. Joachim Hölzl explains: „This way, the robot knows exactly

which component is coming, in what quantity. It also knows how

many to pick up. And if a component has gone missing, it subtracts

one from the target number. So, we always have the correct count of

parts removed.“

Automatic transfer technology from MiniTec

Each robot has a KLT container in front of it. It removes the parts

from the cleaning fixture and properly places them into the box.

When the specified quantity is reached, the KLT automatically

moves out, and the robot is provided with a new empty box.

The filled KLT then automatically moves via a conveyor to a storage

rack. The transfer system is an FMS (Flexible Manufacturing

System) from MiniTec. It transports the boxes via curves or turntables.

A special feature of HMT‘s version is that instead of conventional

workpiece carriers (pallets), the KLT containers are directly

driven by roller chains.

the automatic storage and retrieval of KLT containers, moving back

and forth. It also transports components for visual inspection. This

area is equipped with a control station where employees can see

which parts are in the storage system. They can request the parts to

be inspected via a control panel. As a result, the shuttle starts the retrieval

process and supplies the KLT containers for visual inspection

via a conveyor system. There, the parts are examined according to

customer defect catalogs. If they are OK, they are packed into customer-specific

packaging.

Significantly increased flexibility

Joachim Hölzl already perceives the benefits of the system after the

initial commissioning: „The main advantage is flexibility. Today, we

have the decisive benefit of being able to increase capacities at short

notice at any time.“

He is also satisfied with the project process: „The collaboration

Peter Müller. His experience in project business and his technical

expertise added enormous value, also for HMT. The combination

of Tobias Seemann and Peter Müller was fantastic. I greatly appreciated

the communication, project planning, and MiniTec‘s

experience. Many ideas were developed during the project. Small

improvements were identified and quickly implemented. Marcel

Therre and Phillip von Ehr also contributed wonderfully – true

team players.“

Further expansion of automation as a goal

within this trio of MiniTec, Yaskawa, and HMT worked very well

and ultimately led to an excellent result. As mentioned, Yaskawa

supported us by providing a robot. But MiniTec, as the system integrator,

also supported us intensively. Simulations, cycle times,

such topics. It was an excellent collaboration, especially with

manual to robotic. Another area is the removal of components in the

cleanroom. „We have many approaches here, not only in production.

There are also numerous automation possibilities in administration,

some of which we have already implemented. In the future, we want

to analyze all areas to see which processes can be automated to minimize

human error as much as possible.“ Accordingly, the automation

department has grown to four people.

And due to the positive experiences, Yaskawa and MiniTec will

also be involved again in the future.

Bär inaugurates new research building

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision

Engineering IOF inaugurated its newest research building

today with a ceremony. In addition to Federal Research Minister

Dorothee Bär, Thuringia‘s Minister President Mario

Voigt and other guests from politics, business, and industry

took part in the celebrations. Special highlights in the new

building include a new electron beam lithography facility

for the production of photonic components and a ground

station for satellite-based quantum communication.

Spanning more than 2,000 m², the new building will provide Fraunhofer

IOF with new laboratories, clean rooms, and offices in close

proximity to the institute‘s main building. This third extension to the

research institute represents an important strategic step for its future.

The additional laboratory and clean room space will be used to

advance relevant future topics from the High-Tech Agenda.

„With the High-Tech Agenda Germany, we are restoring Germany‘s

position as a leading technology nation. Optics and photonics are

essential foundations in this endeavor and are used in a variety of

ways across key technologies such as quantum technologies, biotechnology,

and microelectronics. Fraunhofer IOF is advancing the

optical technologies and applications of tomorrow and bridging the

gap between science and industry. The new research building inaugurated

today further enhances the potential of the location. We are

well on the way to establishing ‚Made in Germany‘ as a seal of technological

excellence, especially in photonic technologies,“ explained

Federal Research Minister Dorothee Bär.

Minister President Mario Voigt, who accompanied the federal

minister on her visit together with Thuringia‘s Science Minister

Christian Tischner, added: „Thuringian optics, especially those

from Jena, enjoy a worldwide reputation. Fraunhofer IOF in

particular is a real success story. Founded during the turbulent

times following German reunification, the institute has developed

into a globally sought-after partner for science and industry

in the field of instrumentation over the past 30 years. Of particular

importance for the economic development of the region are

the more than twenty companies founded by the institute and its

partner institutions, which today offer secure jobs to more than

350 highly specialized employees. The expansion of Fraunhofer

IOF with the latest new building will help to strengthen this development.

It will continue to establish Thuringia as a hub of the

German photonics industry.“

Minister of Science Christian Tischner emphasized: “The Free State

has supported the construction of a new electron beam lithography

facility at Fraunhofer IOF with 12 million euros and covered half of

the construction costs. This is money well spent—because cuttingedge

research requires cutting-edge infrastructure.”

“In the presence of Federal Minister Bär and Minister-President Voigt,

we have not only opened a new building today. We are creating

a platform for the technologies of the future that will have a far-reaching

impact on the region and set new standards. The new laboratories

offer a wide range of opportunities for the development and

manufacture of high-precision optical and photonic systems. This

creates ideal conditions for cutting-edge research and its transfer

into applications in the fields of optics, photonics, quantum technology,

and photonic systems,“ said Prof. Holger Hanselka, President of

the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. „This not only sends a strong signal for

Jena as an international beacon of photonics, but also advances Germany‘s

performance as a technology location in these strategically

important future technologies.”

New electron beam lithography facility for nanostructuring

As part of the celebrations, guests visited two key highlights of the

new building: a new electron beam lithography facility and an optical

ground station.

Electron beam lithography is a process used to produce particularly

fine structures, measuring just a few nanometers, on optical

components. The process is required, for example, to manufacture

high-performance chips for microelectronics, AI, and quantum

computing. It can also be used to produce high-precision measuring

instruments for Earth observation and space travel. „As institute, we

have made mission-critical contributions to international space programs

such as GAIA and ESA‘s Sentinel program, as well as to the

James Webb Space Telescope. Our special expertise in micro- and

nanostructured optics was particularly important to this endeavor.

The new facility, with its globally unique features, will enable us to

continue to empower science to conduct excellent research and industry

to innovate,“ explains Prof. Andreas Tünnermann, Director of

Fraunhofer IOF.

During the grand opening of the new building, Minister President

Voigt and Federal Minister Bär officially commissioned the new

electron beam lithography facility. The Free State of Thuringia supported

the facility with 12 million euros.

New optical ground station for quantum communication

Another unique feature of Fraunhofer IOF is the new optical ground

station. Located on the roof of the new building, it will enable researchers

in Jena to communicate optically with satellites. This will

be used primarily in quantum communication research. Quantum

communication is developing new methods for virtually eavesdropsecure

communication in the future.

„Our optical ground station is the only one of its kind in central Germany.

It will help us take the insights we have gained from quantum

communication in projects such as the BMFTR-funded QuNET

initiative, which has so far focused on ground-based quantum networks,

to the next level, namely into space. Our research into satellite-based

quantum communication is already helping to lay the foundation

for a global quantum network. At Fraunhofer IOF, we want to

use the new ground station to become a node in the global communications

network of the future and a test center for further research

in this field,“ explains Prof. Tünnermann.

In the Quantum Communications Laboratory, researchers explained the

scientific principles to the guests and gave a demonstration of how the

optical ground station, located above the laboratory, is used.

Steady growth in employees and floor space since 1992

Construction work on the new research building began in 2019. The

construction project cost a total of approximately 30 million euros,

which was shared equally by the federal and state governments. This

is now the third extension to Fraunhofer IOF.

Founded in 1992, Fraunhofer IOF was initially located in the center

of Jena, in the so-called „Eulenhaus“ (Owl House) on Schillerstraße.

For capacity reasons, the institute moved to a new building

on the Beutenberg Campus in 2002. The first extension followed

in 2011. In 2017, the Fiber Technology Center with fiber drawing

tower, which is directly integrated into the building complex, was

opened.

To this day, the research institute continues to grow steadily: starting

with just under sixty employees, around 500 people now work there,

23% of whom have an international background, passionately working

launch of the fully electric injection molding machine series NOVA 5eT, the Japanese-Italian

manufacturer is focusing on intelligent, sustainable, and connected

plastics production and aims to unlock potentials in medical technology and the

E&E industry. At the same time, the nationwide service network is being expanded

to better support customers. At Fakuma 2026, NEGRI BOSSI NISSEI will

present two injection molding machines with integrated automation.

durable performance. Servo-electric drives

guarantee the highest repeat accuracy with

tight tolerances, and a swiveling injection

unit facilitates cleaning and nozzle changes.

Despite a generously sized tool area, the

our subsidiary Sytrama. This allows us to

realize complete production cells that also

With intelligent software and networking

solutions, NEGRI BOSSI NISSEI makes it

Regenerative Economics in the Process Industry

Sustainability is a step

on the way to the goal

More and more people and companies are developing an awareness that their

actions impact the ecosystems in which we all live. With this realization, the willingness

to take responsibility and actively shape change is also growing. Regenerative

economics – approaches that give back more to nature than they take from

it – are becoming not only a central task but also an innovative field. It requires

creativity, interdisciplinary thinking, and continuous learning. Politics, industry,

science, and society must work together to develop solutions – not through finger-wagging,

but through inspiring success stories that show what is possible.

We are part of complex ecosystems, whose

balance has often been negatively affected

by human actions in the past. At the same

time, nature demonstrates with its adaptability

and resilience how valuable its principles

can be for regenerative economics. The

key question is therefore not whether ecosystems

will adapt, but whether we as humanity

act actively enough to remain part of

these systems. Regeneration is a design task

that requires innovation, collaboration, and

new ways of thinking. Experts from industry,

science, and the trade press discussed this

in a World Café workshop during the Bürkert

Fachpressetage and developed initial

approaches to solutions.

Regenerative economics means much

more than zero impact. It involves giving

back more to nature than humans take from

it. This requires holistic, cyclical thinking

that always considers one’s actions within

the overall context (including within different

ecosystems). Holistic responsibility is

patterns of action in the medium term that

bring about positive long-term changes. However,

clear political guidelines and incentive

systems are generally needed to provide

companies with the necessary framework

science should take a leadership role

and conduct fact-based education, which

is as urgently needed as it is lengthy. Proper

associations could also push forward change

through pro-regenerative lobbying. These

thoughts show that ultimately, only the interplay

of various actors will bring long-term

success. Georg Stawowy, CEO of Bürkert

Fluid Control Systems, summarizes: “Society

also needs a consensus on a guiding star

for regenerative action that endures beyond

electoral periods, not only regionally or nationally

but ideally internationally.”

at Bürkert are also active here and have defined

regenerative economics as their guiding

star. The company understands that transitioning

from sustainability to regeneration

is not a state but a developmental process.

The crucial thing is the direction and that

companies begin to think and act regeneratively.

An important role here is played

by service, for example. Building relationships

competence atlas not only facilitates the

search for these resources but also supports

easier utilization and stronger networking

between science and industry.“

After the website‘s launch, the development

of the ForLab Competence Atlas continues.

Members can not only update their

respective information and add new features,

but Stefan Helmerich already plans

further content and functionalities: „An

important role will be played by the users of

the platform. Their feedback from working

with the competence atlas will directly influence

the further development and implementation

of future features. In this way, the

platform can be actively shaped by all user

groups from research, industry, and administration.“

The long-term maintenance and hosting

of the atlas will be ensured by the Center

for Micro- and Nanotechnologies at TU

Ilmenau in close cooperation with the university‘s

computing center.

Slimicide of product type 12 (BPR), such as technical biocides based

on Bronopol, CMIT/MIT (3:1), and DBNPA, enable paper manufacturers

to combat or prevent slime formation. With the Vinkocide®

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) acts as a bleaching agent, but it is quickly

broken down and „used up“ by the enzyme catalase present in the

paper pulp. stabicor® RF 5 acts as a stabilizer by reacting with the

enzyme faster than hydrogen peroxide. As a result, less H2O2 is needed,

and the entire process runs more stably and efficiently.

Sustainability also plays a major role at the new production site

still under construction in Schwerin: there, a plant for producing

biochar will generate process steam, heat, and electricity as by-products.

It aims not only to cover part of its own energy needs in chemical

FiT2clean Award 2026 – Application phase started

Looking for innovative solutions

for industrial parts cleaning

The application phase for the 5th FiT2clean Award of the

Professional Association for Industrial Part Cleaning e. V.

(FiT) has begun. Manufacturers, providers, and users from

all segments of industrial cleaning technology are invited

to apply with forward-looking solutions to current challenges

in component cleaning. The deadline for submissions

is May 24, 2026. The award ceremony for the €10,000 innovation

prize will take place during the 34th Conference

on „Industrial Component Cleaning“ on June 25, 2026, in

Esslingen.

New and modified products, innovative manufacturing technologies

and materials, higher requirements for cost efficiency, stability, and

sustainability of processes, as well as the digitalization of manufacturing

– changes in many areas of industry also affect component

cleaning. „Innovations and developments in industrial cleaning

technology therefore make an important contribution to strengthening

the competitiveness and value creation of manufacturing

companies,“ reports Dr. Michael Flämmisch, Chairman of the Professional

Association for Industrial Part Cleaning (FiT). „The goal of

the FiT2clean Award is to promote solutions for the numerous challenges

in component cleaning, advance them, and make them visible.“

The innovation prize, endowed with €10,000 and a one-year

free membership in the professional association, has been awarded

annually by FiT since 2022.

Applications in three categories

For participation in the fifth edition, national and international manufacturers,

providers, and users from all areas of industrial cleaning

technology are invited – from plant and process engineering to media

monitoring and treatment, to process monitoring and control,

as well as cleanliness analysis. For the 2026 award, innovative solutions,

currently implemented product ideas, and developments can

be submitted until May 24, in the following categories:

– Innovation: New product or product variation to meet current

requirements in industrial component cleaning.

– Ecology: Solutions for industrial component cleaning or for changing

a product, process, or application case, resulting in resourceoptimized

process management or resource savings.

– QSRein 4.0: Innovative system solution for knowledge-based

process management in industrial component cleaning.

Award ceremony on June 25 in Esslingen during the conference

The submitted applications will be evaluated by an independent

expert jury – consisting of individuals from science, research, industry,

and media – according to defined criteria. The three finalists

will then present their solutions on June 25, 2026, in Esslingen to

the participants of the 34th Conference on „Industrial Component

Cleaning.“ The presentation of the 5th FiT2clean Award will follow

immediately afterward.

industry experts. The main topics are questions

The program of the kickoff event addresses

these topics with concrete examples

from everyday industrial practice. The focus

includes dealing with raw material shortages,

skilled labor shortages, and geopolitical

conditions, as well as practical applications

of digital twins, AI-supported processes,

and new approaches in production planning

and material flow. The lectures will be delivered

by speakers from industry, consulting,

and research, who will share their experiences

based on real projects and application

examples.

Ulf Oestermann from Fraunhofer IZM

will host the program. With his experience

in research, industrial projects, and prototype

manufacturing, he will moderate the

event and promote discussions and knowledge

exchange.

Plenty of space for networking and new

impulses

In addition to the technical program, personal

exchange plays a central role. On the

evening before the event, „Electronics on

the Road“ invites attendees to an afterwork

lounge. In a relaxed atmosphere and

over a shared dinner, participants will have

the opportunity to engage in conversations

before a science slam concludes the event

in an inspiring yet humorous way. Young researchers

will present their projects in short

presentations that combine expertise with

entertainment. The audience will decide

which presentation convinces the most.

Following the kickoff in Cologne, stops

will take place throughout the year in Lindau,

Heidelberg, Salzburg, and Berlin. With

this decentralized approach, „Electronics on

the Road“ brings current topics in electronics

manufacturing to different regions and

offers opportunities for personal encounters

Resource conservation and sustainability are shaping

shapes and a mobile coating system for columns weighing

up to 2,000 tons.

– Gema Switzerland showcases, with the Germany premiere, how

Endress+Hauser demonstrates high sustainability performance

in benchmark comparison

Silver medal in EcoVadis rating

Endress+Hauser has once again achieved 78 out of 100

points in the EcoVadis sustainability rating 2026 and has

been awarded a Silver medal for this achievement. This confirms

the company’s high level of sustainability in an international

comparison.

The Swiss specialist in measurement and automation technology

ranks among the top six percent of the more than 100,000 companies

surveyed worldwide. Endress+Hauser was able to further improve its

position in the areas of environment, ethics and sustainable procurement.

The topic of labor and human rights received a lower rating

due to minor findings during an occupational safety inspection at

Endress+Hauser has set itself ambitious sustainability goals, aiming to

achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

(SBTi) to achieve carbon neutrality across the entire value chain by

EU Directive on Sustainability Reporting (CSRD).

In 2025, Endress+Hauser was awarded the German Sustainability

Award in the category of measurement and control technology, in

part for the company’s contribution to the sustainable transformation

of the process industry. “Voluntary ratings such as EcoVadis help

us to identify where we can improve,” emphasizes Julia Schempp,

can expect at the

interpack Spotlight Forum 2026

Around 75 presentations, sessions and panel discussions: The Spotlight Forum at interpack 2026 brings together key debates

on regulation, resource efficiency, automation and securing skilled labour. International experts from industry, politics,

associations, start-ups and institutions will shape the programme from 7 to 13 May in Düsseldorf.

Under the motto ‘7 Days, 7 Topics’, the interpack Spotlight Forum

is entering its second round and positioning itself as the trade fair‘s

central exchange platform. It is jointly organised by interpack, dfv

Conference Group and PackReport.

7 May – PPWR: Opportunities and risks powered by REA

Between efficiency and responsibility: The first day of the trade

fair will be dominated by the European Packaging Regulation

PPWR. The practical implications for the use of recycled materials,

reusable quotas, recycling rates and hygiene requirements will be discussed.

Tânia Dias da Costa (pacoon Sustainability Concepts), for

example, will highlight the steps required for regulatory implementation

in companies. Frank Debusmann (REA Elektronik) will show

how intelligent labelling systems can contribute to PPWR-compliant

recycling, and Patricia Torres Mateus (OMRON Electronics) will

talk about the role of automation in data collection, transparency

and traceability along the production line. A panel discussion with

industry representatives and the European Commission will focus

on competitiveness, location issues and the impact of the regulation

on companies, customers and consumers.

8 May – Resource efficiency powered by Aasted

On interpack Friday, there will be an extensive programme on

resource efficiency. One example is the presentation by Pierre Michaels

and Thomas Goetzl (TTE Strategy GmbH). They will show

how organisational structures, cross-location benchmarking and

data-based dialogue between plants can tap into unused capacities.

Aasted, in turn, will highlight the optimisation of chocolate processes

and the efficient use of resources. In a panel discussion, moderator

Ton Knipscheer (European Co-Packers Association) will talk to

industry representatives about how geopolitical uncertainties, tariffs

and regulatory pressure are changing supply chains and what innovation

impulses this is generating for the packaging industry.

9 May – Smart packaging powered by Domino

Digital identification, networked systems and data-based business

models will be the focus on Saturday. Craig Stobie (Domino

Germany), for example, will explain the potential of introducing 2D

codes. Simon Hill and Ian Richards (TNA Northern Europe B.V.) will

use practical examples to show how integrated packaging lines can

increase efficiency while meeting safety, sustainability and quality

requirements. Jürgen Lochner (Mosca) will demonstrate how machine

manufacturers are developing digital services and data-based

business models to provide strategic support to their customers. Dr

Tobias Jochum (Fraunhofer IAP) will talk about digital product passports,

brand protection and end-to-end traceability along the supply

chain.

10 May – Intelligent systems and AI powered by Syntegon

On Sunday, the focus will be on automation and data-based

production models. Thomas Peter and Stephan Schuele (Syntegon

Technology) will show how digital innovation, end-to-end processes

and contactless automation can pave the way to the ‘Factory

of the Future’. Marco Facchin (BIOMETiC srl) will demonstrate in

his presentation how 3D computed tomography and explainable AI

make food inspection more precise. Jan De Roeck (Esko-Graphics)

will highlight how AI-supported workflows bring together regulatory

requirements, sustainability goals and market launch cycles. Christian

Keßler (SEW Eurodrive) outlines the transition to the software-defined

11 May – Circular economy powered by Metsä

Monday is dedicated to circular value creation models. Kaisa

Munukka (Metsä Board) explains how data-based life cycle analyses,

renewable raw materials and fossil-free energy sources can

contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. Thomas Krämer (Wipotec)

shows how product labelling and digital transparency enable

traceability and thus support the circular economy. Based on strategic

futurology, Gillian Garside Wright (Aura Consultants) outlines

key trends up to 2050 and their influence on circularity, brand trust

On Tuesday, the question of how innovative materials and design

approaches combine sustainability requirements and industrial

performance will be explored. tesa SE, for example, will highlight the

shift towards circular packaging solutions and show how recyclingfriendly

designs, mono-material concepts and advanced adhesive

systems can contribute to resource efficiency. Rosa González (AIM-

PLAS) will present sustainable polymer formulations for packaging

applications. Lynsey Maddison (ProAmpac) will discuss material

solutions that are consistently geared towards ‘design for recycling’,

including mono and fibre products for different markets. Finally, Dr

Jörg Zacharias (KRONES AG) will focus on the vision of fibre-based

beverage bottles and highlight the opportunities, limitations and industrialisation

potential of bio-based, recyclable solutions.

13 May 2026 – Young Talents

The last day of interpack 2026 is dedicated entirely to young professionals.

The Spotlight Forum is at the heart of the programme –

both for young talents and for companies in the packaging industry

that want to become more attractive employers and recruit qualified

employees.

In an open discussion round, industry associations such as the

VDMA and the Industrial Association for Plastic Packaging (IK)

will exchange ideas on effective measures for recruiting young talent.

Topics will include cooperation with universities, new qualification

profiles and strategies for retaining young talent in the long

term. Representatives from leading companies will also discuss how

they promote young talent, develop them in a targeted manner and

parts of infrastructural facility management for the southern section

of the Deiker Höfe building complex in Düsseldorf on behalf of the

project developer Black Horse Properties GmbH. The length and value

of the contract are not disclosed.

Deiker Höfe is a multi-use building complex comprising 21,500

m² of commercial space, including offices, medical practices, retail,

a hotel, a daycare centre, as well as 353 residential apartments. An

underground car park provides 620 parking spaces and includes 64

electric vehicle charging stations. The sustainable use of resources

has been in strong focus in Deiker Höfe, and the complex has received

a gold certification from German Sustainable Building Council

interpack 2026 is in

the starting blocks

interpack is set to open its doors in Düsseldorf in eight

weeks’ time. From 7 to 13 May 2026, the global processing

and packaging industry will meet to discuss AI, automation,

innovative materials and new skills. Market leaders and

newcomers from all areas of the value chain are getting ready.

Preparations for interpack 2026 are in full swing. Around 2,800 exhibitors

from all over the world will be presenting their latest developments

in Düsseldorf in May and providing impetus for the future of a

globally networked industry.

“interpack 2026 is more important than ever,” says interpack Director

Thomas Dohse. “Especially in a challenging market environment,

the industry needs a place for dialogue and orientation. Our

task now is to view and compare concrete solutions and make wellfounded

investment decisions.”

Global dynamics, challenges and opportunities

A look at the big picture reveals that the framework conditions for

the industry are complex. Population growth, urbanisation and

Medical technology in focus at Chinaplas

From 21 to 24 April, Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG will be exhibiting

the trade fair presentation will be on two applications from

the field of medical technology, which highlight BOY‘s special

expertise in micro and precision injection moulding.

BOY XS E: Resorbable tissue clip made of PPDO

An absorbable tissue clip for surgical applications is manufactured

on a BOY XS E. The tissue clip made of PPDO (polydioxanone) has

an article weight of only 0.105 g. It is produced with a 2-cavity mould

and a shot weight of 0.5 g.

This application highlights the strengths of the BOY XS E in

processing sensitive materials and extremely low shot weights. Maximum

precision, process stability and reproducibility are crucial,

especially for absorbable implants – requirements that are reliably

met by BOY micro injection moulding technology.

BOY 25 E: Precision component for medical injection pen

As a second application, a threaded rod for dosing an insulin cartridge

used for administering medication is produced on a BOY 25 E.

The polystyrene (PS) part has an article weight of 0.68 g. It is manufactured

with 8 cavities and a shot weight of 5.44 g.

Here, too, dimensional accuracy, surface quality and stable series

production are essential. The BOY 25 E impressively demonstrates

to adhere to the surface. By simulating the

compressed air blasting on the computer

beforehand, it is possible to assess which

abrasive material and which settings on the

system deliver the best results. This digitalized

compressed air blasting increases efficiency

and saves small and medium-sized

companies a lot of money because they use

less abrasive material and energy and produce

less waste.

Flawless painting processes thanks to

artificial intelligence

„Finishing for Compliments – with research

and know-how for genuine compliments“ –

under this motto, the researchers from the

Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology

and Automation IPA present their

trade fair appearance at this year‘s PaintExpo.

From April 14 to 17, they will provide

insights into current research projects that

help coating companies achieve more sustainable

and smart, AI-supported painting

processes – and perhaps even earn compliments

from their customers.

The compressed air blasting goes digital

IPA is developing a simulation-supported

pre-treatment process in the „DigiStrahl“

project. The goal is to digitally model, analyze,

and optimize the so-called compressed

air blasting.

Similar to a high-pressure cleaner, compressed

air blasting involves shooting solid

particles at a metallic surface. This creates a

The painting process itself is still considered

a complex process to control fully. There

is a risk of waste, equipment failures, and

rework because, for example, the specified

paint layer thickness cannot always be

maintained everywhere. Oliver Tiedje, head

of the Coatings and Multifunctional Materials

division at Fraunhofer IPA, has therefore

found ways in the „pAInt-Behaviour“

research project to reduce the number of errors

and machine downtimes using artificial

intelligence.

For this, Tiedje and his team conducted

a series of painting tests on plastic

components from the automotive and

commercial vehicle sectors in the Fraunhofer

IPA coating laboratory. Before each

test, they deliberately changed the settings

on the painting system, accepting errors,

and monitored the painting process

with 30 different sensors. The collected

measurement and process data were analyzed

using machine learning methods.

This resulted in a detailed behavior model

that can detect impending quality deviations

early in the painting process and identify

their causes.

against rust. In the „EcoWaterZinc“ research

project, they developed a solvent-free zinc

primer based on water, solving an environmental

and health problem.

Because the zinc-containing coatings

currently in use contain health-damaging

solvents. When such coatings cure indoors,

they release large amounts of volatile organic

compounds. These „Volatile Organic

Compounds“ (VOC) not only smell unpleasant

but can also irritate mucous membranes.

On the other hand, zinc reacts with water.

In the long run, this not only diminishes

the anti-corrosive effect but also causes zinc

to accumulate in rivers and lakes, endangering

the health of humans and animals. The

new primer developed at Fraunhofer IPA

contains modified zinc particles that do not

react with water, forming a durable anti-corrosive

coating.

cleanroom solutions

for every workplace

In research and production, clean working conditions are becoming

increasingly important. Likewise, the assembly and storage of components

from fields such as mechanics, electronics, optoelectronics,

Ergonomic workplace design in

cleanrooms: Appreciation with

measurable effect

Cleanrooms are among the most sensitive work environments in

industry and research. Here, the highest standards of cleanliness,

process stability, and precision meet complex workflows. In addition

to technical factors such as air management, filtration technology, or

material selection, an aspect is increasingly coming into focus: the

ergonomic design of the workplace.

An ergonomically optimized workplace in the cleanroom is far

more than a matter of comfort. It significantly contributes to process

stability and is also a reflection of responsible work design. Companies

that consistently consider ergonomic aspects not only create

better working conditions but also ensure long-term quality and efficiency.

Targeted reduction of burdens in the cleanroom

Activities in the cleanroom are often characterized by static sitting

Well in Hand

Ganter is once again setting new standards – this time by

expanding the range of dimensions for the classic cabinet

U-handle GN 565 with a new profile that is especially easy

to grip and also offers diverse customization options.

In the world of Ganter standard parts, cabinet U-handles offer an

entire universe of possibilities. From elegantly curved shapes to

practical angled versions and even handles with integrated switching

functions or ergonomic finger molding – Ganter offers the

right solution for every need and every application, made of highquality

aluminum, stainless steel or robust plastic.

A classic and a bestseller, the cabinet U-handle GN 565 was introduced

half a century ago when the mechanical engineering standardization

committee was looking for solutions that were both ergonomic

and aesthetically pleasing as well as affordable. The solution: an

extruded aluminum profile that is bent into the shape of a handle.

The principle is still perfectly valid today, including for the U-handle

GN 565 and its newly added versions. This standard part is now

available in even larger dimensions: With a full elliptical cross-section

of 35x25 mm and installation lengths between 250 and 500 mm,

the handle is very robust. It can withstand up to 6400 Newtons perpendicular

to the mounting plane or 5900 Newtons in parallel. This

makes the handle suitable even for heavy sliding doors or hatches.

Thanks to these values, it can also serve as an attractive guard or retaining

bar. The bend radius and the distance between the handle

and the mounting plane are sized to accommodate gloved hands.

Because the new version retains the same look as its smaller siblings,

they can be used together for a consistent aesthetic. On request,

Ganter can produce special dimensions, different bend angles,

special mounting threads or individual colors – all with short

lead times.

To emphasize the brand identity of systems and machines equipped

with the handles, company names or logos can also be printed

onto the surface in a wear-resistant fashion that is integrated into

the coating system.

Cabinet U-handles GN 565 come as standard with UV-resistant,

black, matt textured powder coating for outdoor applications. Coatings

in red or silver as well as anodized or plain finishes are also

available. The version with antimicrobial coating contains silver

ions that effectively reduce the growth of bacteria or viruses on

the handles and is recommended for sensitive areas in hospitals

or clinics.

Anyone looking for a shock-absorbing and easy-to-grip solution

should consider the GN 564 handle. This U-handle is also available

with the 35x25 mm profile – plus a soft TPU sheating.

IEF-Werner offers modular and flexible solutions with its extensive linear

technology range, which can handle manual or motorized tasks depending on

the need. To meet the increasing demands of modern automation, IEF-Werner

IEF-Werner. „They find versatile applications

among our customers: in machine construction,

measurement and testing technology,

optics, or laser and medical technology.“

The automation specialist‘s program

covers solutions for simple adjustments as

well as complex multi-axis systems.

Manual Linear Drives

„Our domiLINE series is the core of manual

adjusters,“ describes Fabian Wald. At

IEF-Werner, he is the Product Manager for

manual adjustment units. „With four sizes

from domiLINE 30 to domiLINE 120, we can

standardly cover strokes from 5 to 100 millimeters

and pitches from 0.5 to 6 millimeters.

Larger strokes are also possible upon customer

request. For particularly robust designs,

the adjusters are available in anodized aluminum.

A version with stainless steel guidance

is also available.“

The high positioning accuracy of ±0.05

millimeters allows for precise positioning

and adjustment of workpieces, sensors, camera

lenses, nozzles, or tools. The accessory

program includes mounting brackets, mounting

plates, connection elements for XY and

XZ combinations, clamps, handwheels, and

for our customers that support simple linear

adjustments as well as complex axis combinations

and multi-axis applications.“

Motorized Linear Drives

IEF-Werner offers a comprehensive range

of motorized linear drives, from belt drives

to highly precise linear motor axes. „Our

belt-driven axes cover strokes up to 6,500

millimeters and loads of up to 150 kilograms

on the carriage,“ describes Thomas Hettich.

The profiLINE series includes spindle

axes with feed forces up to 5,000 Newtons.

They are optimized for applications that require

precision and durability. The euroLI-

NE series stands for dynamic linear motor

drives with a repeatability of up to ±5 micrometers

at speeds up to 5 meters per second.

With this variety, the ideal axis can be selected

based on the required dynamics, accuracy,

travel length, and load to be moved.

for our axes can partly be installed in the

robot‘s control cabinet, our solution is very

compact. Multi-axis applications with additional

the control electronics and the linear unit is

sufficient.

Metal strip covers reduce particle emission

in selected linear units. They are certified

up to ISO 1 cleanroom class. Equipped

with this, linear guides are suitable for use in

medical technology and the pharmaceutical

industry. The axes can be combined into

modular positioning systems and are used,

among other things, in the cleanroom palletizer

varioSTACK CF (Clean Factory). Additionally,

variants for explosive environments

(Zone 2) with antistatic timing belts, ESD

versions with energy chains, and special

elastomer couplings have been designed.

Another innovation focus is the so-called

7th axis: the linear auxiliary axis enables

260 parts per minute, or with several spindle

SEKUROKA® disposal bags, used in combination

with the SEKUROKA® table stand

from Carl ROTH, offer a practical solution for

the hygienic and efficient disposal of laboratory

waste directly at the workstation. They

thus support a functional system solution

for structured workflows in the laboratory.

SEKUROKA® disposal bags are suitable

for holding typical laboratory waste such as

used pipette tips, reaction vessels or sample

vials. They are robust, transparent and autoclavable.

The transparent material allows a

clear view of the contents and fill level, facilitating

safe handling. The bags measure

200 mm wide × 300 mm long and are available

in dispenser boxes of 100 pieces. Depending

on requirements, variants

made of polypropylene (PP) with

a wall thickness of 40 µm or polyethylene

(PE) with a wall thickness

of 30 µm are available. The SEKU-

ROKA® table stand complements

the disposal bags as a sturdy holder

at the workplace. The wire frame is available

in heights of 25 cm and 35 cm, is coated

in white plastic and fitted with non-slip

rubber feet. The table stand is temperature-resistant

up to +60 °C and is therefore

suitable for higher temperature conditions.

The combination of the waste disposal bag

and the SEKUROKA® table stand enables

clean, convenient disposal, reduces walking

distances and supports compliance with

hygiene and safety requirements when disposing

of laboratory waste.
